Variation in RC was assessed by the following metrics: mean, standard deviation (SD), coefficient of variation (CV) and trajectories pattern of RC. To identify RC trajectories, we employed the latent class mixture model. The primary endpoint was the development of DFU, and the time-to-event data were analyzed using Cox regression. Results: A total of 1874 patients with T2D were included, with a median follow-up duration of 4.7 years. Among them, 129 individuals (6.9%) developed DFU. The proportion of DFU was significantly higher in the U-shaped group compared to the median group (P for trend < 0.001). Upon adjustment for confounding variables, the U-shaped trajectory correlated with a higher risk of DFU, demonstrating a hazard ratio (HR) of 2.57 (95% CI, 1.54– 4.27). Subgroup analysis showed the U-shaped trajectory had a higher DFU risk regardless of gender (HR=2.40 and 2.81, respectively), glycemic control (HR=1.89 and 7.41, respectively), smoking (HR=2.36 and 2.93, respectively), or hypertension (HR=2.30 and 2.97, respectively). No association was found between mean, SD and CV of RC and DFU.Conclusion: A U-shape trajectory of RC was independently associated with an elevated risk of DFU among patients with T2D.Keywords: diabetic foot ulcer, remnant cholesterol, trajectories, type 2 diabetes

Tests of the T, CP and CPT symmetries in the neutral kaon system are performed by the direct comparison of the probabilities of a kaon transition process to its symmetry-conjugate. The exchange of in and out states required for a genuine test involving an anti-unitary transformation implied by time-reversal is implemented exploiting the entanglement of $K^0\bar{K}{}^0$ pairs produced at a $\phi$-factory. A data sample collected by the KLOE experiment at DA$\Phi$NE corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 1.7 fb$^{-1}$ is analysed to study the $\Delta$t distributions of the $\phi\to K_{S}K_{L}\to \pi^+\pi^- \: \pi^{\pm}e^{\mp}\nu$ and $\phi\to K_{S}K_{L}\to \pi^{\pm}e^{\mp}\nu \: 3\pi^0$ processes, with $\Delta$t the difference of the kaon decay times. A comparison of the measured $\Delta$t distributions in the asymptotic region $\Delta t \gg \tau_{S}$ allows to test for the first time T and CPT symmetries in kaon transitions with a precision of few percent, and to observe CP violation with this novel method., Comment: 26 pages, 10 figures. The branching fraction for the decay $K_S \to \pi e \nu$ has been measured with a sample of 300 million $K_S$ mesons produced in $\phi \to K_L K_S$ decays recorded by the KLOE experiment at the DA$\Phi$NE $e^+e^-$ collider. Signal decays are selected by a boosted decision tree built with kinematic variables and time-of-flight measurements. Data control samples of $K_L \to \pi e \nu$ decays are used to evaluate signal selection efficiencies. A fit to the reconstructed electron mass distribution finds 49647$\pm$316 signal events. Normalising to the $K_S \to \pi^+\pi^-$ decay events the result for the branching fraction is $\mathcal{B}(K_S \to \pi e \nu) = (7.211 \pm 0.046_{\rm stat} \pm 0.052_{\rm syst}) \times10^{-4}$. The combination with our previous measurement gives $\mathcal{B}(K_S \to \pi e \nu) = (7.153 \pm 0.037_{\rm stat} \pm 0.043_{\rm syst}) \times10^{-4}$. From this value we derive $f_+(0)|V_{us}| = 0.2170 \pm 0.009$., Comment: arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1912.05990

They were divided into mild obesity, moderate obesity, and severe obesity groups. HUA was defined as fasting serum uric acid level > 420 μmol/L for boys and > 360 μmol/L for girls. Multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to identify risk factors for HUA.Results: The highest proportion of hospitalized obese children was aged 10– 13 years comprising 677 (50.9%) followed by those aged 6– 9 years comprising 348 (26.2%) whereas the least proportion was aged 2– 5 years comprising 76 (5.7%). The above differences in age distribution were still present in subgroup analyses according to weight status. Most hospitalized obese children were boys (64.7%), especially in the severe obesity group (75.0%). The overall estimated prevalence of HUA in obese children was 54.8%. It presented a gradual increase trend over the last 7 years, with more rapidly in boys than in girls. Subgroup analysis by weight status showed that the prevalence of HUA was higher in children with moderate obesity (64.3%) and severe obesity (64.2%) when compared with mild obesity (48.2%) (P all< 0.01). Boys reached a relatively high HUA incidence level (≥ 60%) at age 12, which occurred about 2 years later than in girls (age 10). With 12 years as the cut-off point, a high prevalence of HUA (≥ 60%) was observed in both genders. Multivariable logistic regression analyses showed that boy (OR=2.844, 95% CI 2.024– 3.998), age (OR=1.253, 95% CI 1.155– 1.360), BMI-Z score (OR=2.132, 95% CI 1.438– 3.162), fasting blood glucose (OR=0.907, 95% CI 0.860– 0.956), phosphorus (OR=4.123, 95% CI 2.349– 7.239), alkaline phosphatase (OR=1.002, 95% CI 1.001– 1.004), creatinine (OR=1.067, 95% CI 1.037– 1.098), urea nitrogen (OR=1.193, 95% CI 1.032– 1.378), aspartate aminotransferase (OR=1.016, 95% CI 1.002– 1.030), triglycerides (OR=1.339, 95% CI 1.075– 1.667), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (OR=0.381, 95% CI 0.160– 0.910) were independently associated with odds of HUA (P all< 0.05).Conclusion: The prevalence of HUA in Chinese obese children and adolescents is unexpectedly high. Childhood HUA was significantly associated with obesity. Gender and age differences were observed in the association between childhood obesity and HUA. Obese children aged ≥ 12 years should be focused on screening the risk of HUA.Keywords: children, hyperuricemia, body mass index, sex, age, obesity

Monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides host a variety of optically excited quasiparticles species that stem from two-dimensional confinement combined with relatively large carrier effective masses and reduced dielectric screening. The magnetic response of these quasiparticles gives information on their spin and valley configurations, nuanced carrier interactions, and insight into the underlying band structure. Recently, there have been several reports of 2$s$/3$s$ charged excitons in TMDs, but very little is still known about their response to external magnetic fields. Using photoluminescence excitation spectroscopy, we observe the presence of the 2$s$ charged exciton and report for the first time its response to an applied magnetic field. We benchmark this response against the neutral exciton and find that both the 2$s$ neutral and charged excitons exhibit similar behavior with g-factors of g$_{\rm{X_0^{2s}}}$=-5.20$\pm$0.11 and g$_{\rm{X_-^{2s}}}$=-4.98$\pm$0.11, respectively., Comment: J.C. High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
The quantum interference between the decays of entangled neutral kaons is studied in the process $\phi\rightarrow K_S K_L \rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-$, which exhibits the characteristic Einstein--Podolsky--Rosen correlations that prevent both kaons to decay into $\pi^+\pi^-$ at the same time. This constitutes a very powerful tool for testing at the utmost precision the quantum coherence of the entangled kaon pair state, and to search for tiny decoherence and CPT violation effects, which may be justified in a quantum gravity framework. The analysed data sample was collected with the KLOE detector at DA$\Phi$NE, the Frascati $\phi$-factory, and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of about 1.7 fb$^{-1}$, i.e. to about $1.7 \times 10^9$ $\phi\rightarrow K_S K_L$ decays produced. From the fit of the observed $\Delta t$ distribution, being $\Delta t$ the difference of the kaon decay times, the decoherence and CPT violation parameters of various phenomenological models are measured with a largely improved accuracy with respect to previous analyses. The results are consistent with no deviation from quantum mechanics and CPT symmetry, while for some parameters the precision reaches the interesting level at which -- in the most optimistic scenarios -- quantum gravity effects might show up. They provide the most stringent limits up to date on the considered models., Comment: 17 pages 6 figures

The patients were divided into two groups based on the occurrence of postoperative cardiopulmonary complications: the complication group and the non-complication group. The demographic data, including gender, age, smoking history, quadriceps strength, body mass index (BMI), respiratory muscle strength, 6-minute walk test (6MWD), stair climbing test, and preoperative pulmonary function tests, were compared between the two groups. Logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the predictive power of each parameter for postoperative cardiopulmonary complications. Results: Among the enrolled patients, 103 (30.7%) developed postoperative cardiopulmonary complications. Significant differences were observed between the two groups in terms of quadriceps strength, respiratory muscle strength, 6MWD, smoking history, stair climbing test, DLCO%, FEV1%, heart rate, oxygen saturation, surgical duration, surgical approach, resection range, and blood loss (P< 0.05). Logistic regression analysis revealed that respiratory muscle strength, quadriceps strength, stair climbing test, FEV1%, DLCO%, ΔHR, ΔSPO2, surgical approach were identified as risk factors for postoperative cardiopulmonary complications in patients with COPD and lung cancer. Conclusion: Skeletal muscle function measurement, stair climbing test, FEV1, surgical approach, and DLCO% can serve as assessment tools for surgical risk in patients with COPD and lung cancer. They can predict the occurrence of postoperative cardiopulmonary complications to a certain extent, providing valuable predictive value for these complications in patients with COPD and NSCLC.Keywords: respiratory muscle function, Cardiopulmonary complications, lung cancer surgery, Climbing test

We measured the appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI), handgrip strength, and 6-meter walking speed. The US-derived muscle thickness (MT), cross-sectional area (CSA), and shear wave ultrasound elastography (SWE) of GM were also measured. We assessed the correlations between clinical indicators and US features. The model for screening sarcopenia was established using stepwise logistic regression. Stepwise linear regression was used to identify a set of variables that jointly estimated ASMI. The model’s ability to identify sarcopenia and low muscle mass was assessed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Results: The prevalence of sarcopenia in this study was 24.2%. The CSA, MT and SWE values of the patients with sarcopenia were lower than those of patients without sarcopenia (all p < 0.05). ASMI was positively correlated with CSA (r = 0.56, p < 0.001) and MT (r = 0.39, p < 0.001). Handgrip strength was positively correlated with CSA (r = 0.45, p < 0.001), MT (r = 0.25, p < 0.001), and SWE (r = 0.26, p = 0.002). A diagnostic model for sarcopenia was established with a sensitivity of 81.1%, specificity of 75.0%, and an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.800. The estimated ASMI equation was developed and found to have a positive correlation with actual ASMI (r = 0.70, p < 0.001). It was also effective in diagnosing low muscle mass, with an AUC of 0.787 for males and 0.783 for females. Conclusion: Ultrasonographic assessment of the gastrocnemius muscle was found to be a useful and convenient method for detecting sarcopenia in patients with T2D.Keywords: sarcopenia, ultrasound, shear wave elastography, gastrocnemius muscle, T2D

Based on an integrated luminosity of 1.61 fb$^{-1}$ $e^+e^-$ collision data collected with the KLOE detector at DA$\Phi$NE, the Frascati $\phi$-factory, a search for the $P$- and $CP$-violating decay $\eta\to\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ has been performed. Radiative $\phi\to\eta\gamma$ decay is exploited to access the $\eta$ mesons. No signal is observed in the $\pi^{+}\pi^{-}$ invariant mass spectrum, and the upper limit on the branching fraction at 90\% confidence level is determined to be ${\mathcal B}(\eta\to\pi^{+}\pi^{-})<4.9\times10^{-6}$, which is approximately three times smaller than the previous KLOE result. From the combination of these two measurements we get ${\mathcal B}(\eta\to\pi^{+}\pi^{-}) < 4.4\times10^{-6}$ at 90\% confidence level., Comment: 11 pages, 3 figures

Based on a sample of 300 million $K_S$ mesons produced in $\phi \to K_L K_S$ decays recorded by the KLOE experiment at the DA$\Phi$NE $e^+e^-$ collider we have measured the branching fraction for the decay $K_S \to \pi \mu \nu$. The $K_S$ mesons are identified by the interaction of $K_L$ mesons in the detector. The $K_S \to \pi \mu \nu$ decays are selected by a boosted decision tree built with kinematic variables and by a time-of-flight measurement. Signal efficiencies are evaluated with data control samples of $K_L \to \pi \mu \nu$ decays. A fit to the reconstructed muon mass distribution finds $7223 \pm 180$ signal events. Normalising to the $K_S \to \pi^+ \pi^-$ decay events the result for the branching fraction is $\mathcal{B}(K_S \to \pi \mu \nu) = (4.56 \pm 0.11_{\rm stat} \pm 0.17_{\rm syst})\times10^{-4}$., Comment: 16 pages, 12 figures, Accepted in PLB

A total of 374 ICU nurses (effective response rate: 71.37%) provided sufficient responses. Sociodemographic factors, job demographic factors, fatigue, burnout, job satisfaction, and turnover intention were assessed using questionnaires. General linear modeling (GLM), hierarchical linear regression (HLR) analysis, and generalized additive modeling (GAM) were performed to examine all the considered research hypotheses. Results: Fatigue was found to be negatively and significantly associated with job satisfaction. Moreover, burnout played a partial mediating role and turnover intention played a moderating role in the relationship between fatigue and job satisfaction. Conclusion: Over time, a state of physical and mental exhaustion and work weariness among Chinese ICU nurses potentially results in job burnout and consequently promotes the level of job dissatisfaction. The results also found that turnover intention played a moderating role in the relationship between burnout and job satisfaction. Specific policies could be considered to eliminate nurses’ fatigue and negative attitudes during times of public health emergencies. Keywords: ICU nurses, fatigue, burnout, job satisfaction, turnover intention, COVID-19 pandemic

However, few such studies have been done in southern Xinjiang, China. We aimed to clarify the molecular epidemic characteristics and their association with drug resistance in the M. tuberculosis isolates circulating in this area. Methods: A total of 347 isolates obtained from southern Xinjiang, China between Sep, 2017 and Sep, 2019 were included to characterize using a 15-locus MIRU-VNTR (VNTR-15China) typing and spoligotyping, and test for drug susceptibility profiles. Then the lineages and clustering of the isolates were analyzed, as well as their association with drug resistance. Results: Spoligotyping results showed that 60 spoligotype international types (SITs) containing 35 predefined SITs and 25 Orphan or New patterns, and 12 definite genotypes were found, and the top three prevalent genotypes were Beijing genotype (207, 59.7%), followed by CAS1-Delhi (46, 13.6%), and Ural-2 (30, 8.6%). The prevalence of Beijing genotype infection in the younger age group (≤ 30) was more frequent than the two older groups (30~59 and ≥ 60 years old, both P values < 0.05). The Beijing genotype showed significantly higher prevalence of resistance to isoniazid, rifampicin, ethambutol, multi-drug or at least one drug than the non-Beijing genotype (All P values ≤ 0.05). The estimated proportion of tuberculosis cases due to transmission was 18.4% according to the cluster rate acquired by VNTR-15China typing, and the Beijing genotype was the risk factor for the clustering (OR 9.15, 95% CI: 4.18– 20.05).Conclusion: Our data demonstrated that the Beijing genotype is the dominant lineage, associated with drug resistance, and was more likely to infect young people and contributed to tuberculosis transmission in southern Xinjiang, China. These findings will contribute to a better understanding of tuberculosis epidemiology in this area. Keywords: MIRU-VNTR, spoligotyping, Beijing genotype, drug resistance, genetic diversity, Mycobacterium tuberculosis

People's subjective response to any thermal environment is commonly investigated by using rating scales describing the degree of thermal sensation, comfort, and acceptability. Subsequent analyses of results collected in this way rely on the assumption that specific distances between verbal anchors placed on the scale exist and that relationships between verbal anchors from different dimensions that are assessed (e.g. thermal sensation and comfort) do not change. Another inherent assumption is that such scales are independent of the context in which they are used (climate zone, season, etc.). Despite their use worldwide, there is indication that contextual differences influence the way the scales are perceived and therefore question the reliability of the scales’ interpretation. To address this issue, a large international collaborative questionnaire study was conducted in 26 countries, using 21 different languages, which led to a dataset of 8225 questionnaires. Results, analysed by means of robust statistical techniques, revealed that only a subset of the responses are in accordance with the mentioned assumptions. Significant differences appeared between groups of participants in their perception of the scales, both in relation to distances of the anchors and relationships between scales. It was also found that respondents’ interpretations of scales changed with contextual factors, such as climate, season, and language. These findings highlight the need to carefully consider context-dependent factors in interpreting and reporting results from thermal comfort studies or post-occupancy evaluations, as well as to revisit the use of rating scales and the analysis methods used in thermal comfort studies to improve their reliability.

- Abstract
Background: Disorders affecting the nervous system are diverse and include neurodevelopmental disorders, late-life neurodegeneration, and newly emergent conditions, such as cognitive impairment following COVID-19. Previous publications from the Global Burden of Disease, Injuries, and Risk Factor Study estimated the burden of 15 neurological conditions in 2015 and 2016, but these analyses did not include neurodevelopmental disorders, as defined by the International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-11, or a subset of cases of congenital, neonatal, and infectious conditions that cause neurological damage. Here, we estimate nervous system health loss caused by 37 unique conditions and their associated risk factors globally, regionally, and nationally from 1990 to 2021. Methods: We estimated mortality, prevalence, years lived with disability (YLDs), years of life lost (YLLs), and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs), with corresponding 95% uncertainty intervals (UIs), by age and sex in 204 countries and territories, from 1990 to 2021. We included morbidity and deaths due to neurological conditions, for which health loss is directly due to damage to the CNS or peripheral nervous system. We also isolated neurological health loss from conditions for which nervous system morbidity is a consequence, but not the primary feature, including a subset of congenital conditions (ie, chromosomal anomalies and congenital birth defects), neonatal conditions (ie, jaundice, preterm birth, and sepsis), infectious diseases (ie, COVID-19, cystic echinococcosis, malaria, syphilis, and Zika virus disease), and diabetic neuropathy. By conducting a sequela-level analysis of the health outcomes for these conditions, only cases where nervous system damage occurred were included, and YLDs were recalculated to isolate the non-fatal burden directly attributable to nervous system health loss. A comorbidity correction was used to calculate total prevalence of all conditions that affect the nervous s

High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
We searched for the $\mu^+\mu^-$ decay of a light vector gauge boson, also known as dark photon, in the $e^+ e^- \to \mu^+ \mu^- \gamma_{\rm ISR}$ process by means of the Initial State Radiation (ISR) method. We used 1.93~fb$^{-1}$ of data collected by the KLOE experiment at the DA$\Phi$NE $\phi$-factory. No structures have been observed over the irreducible $\mu^+ \mu^-$ background. A 90\% CL limit on the ratio $\varepsilon^2=\alpha^{\prime}/\alpha$ between the dark coupling constant and the fine structure constant of $ 3\times 10^{-6}-2\times 10^{-7}$ has been set in the dark photon mass region between 519 MeV and 973 MeV. This new limit has been combined with the published result obtained investigating the hypothesis of the dark photon decaying into hadrons in $e^+ e^- \to \pi^+ \pi^- \gamma_{\rm ISR}$ events. The combined 90\% CL limit increases the sensitivity especially in the $\rho-\omega$ interference region and excludes $\varepsilon^2$ greater than $(13-2)\times 10^{-7}$. For dark photon masses greater than 600 MeV the combined limit is lower than 8~$\times\, 10^{-7}$ resulting more stringent than present constraints from other experiments., Comment: 7 pages, 9 figures, 1 table, accepted for publication in Physics Letters B

High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
Using 1.63 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity collected by the KLOE experiment about $7\times 10^4$ $K_S \rightarrow \pi^{\pm}e^{\mp}\nu$ decays have been reconstructed. The measured value of the charge asymmetry for this decay is $A_S = (-4.9 \pm 5.7_{stat} \pm 2.6_{syst}) \times 10^{-3}$, which is almost twice more precise than the previous KLOE result. The combination of these two measurements gives $A_S = (-3.8 \pm 5.0_{stat} \pm 2.6_{syst}) \times 10^{-3}$ and, together with the asymmetry of the $K_L$ semileptonic decay, provides significant tests of the CPT symmetry. The obtained results are in agreement with CPT invariance., Comment: submitted to JHEP

The aim was to assess the incidence, characteristics, predictive factors and outcomes of CVEs in elderly patients with CAP during hospitalization. Methods: This study was a multicenter, retrospective research on hospitalized elderly patients with CAP from the CAP-China network. Predictive factors for the occurrence of CVEs and 30-day mortality were identified by multivariable logistic regression analysis. Results: Of 2941 hospitalized elderly patients, 402 (13.7%) developed CVEs during hospitalization with the median age of 81 years old. Compared with non-CVEs patients, patients with CVEs were older, more comorbidities, and higher disease severity; use of glucocorticoids, leukocytosis, azotemia, hyponatremia, multilobe infiltration and pleural effusion were more common; the rate of clinical failure (CF), in-hospital mortality and 30-day mortality were higher, which significantly increased with age and the number of CVEs (p < 0.001). Multivariable logistic regression showed previous history of congestive heart failure (odds ratio [OR], 6.16; 95% CI, 4.14– 9.18), CF (OR, 4.69; 95% CI, 3.392– 6.48), previous history of ischemic heart disease (OR, 2.22; 95% CI, 1.61– 3.07), use of glucocorticoids (OR, 2.0; 95% CI, 1.39– 2.89), aspiration (OR, 1.88; 95% CI, 1.26– 2.81), pleural effusion (OR, 1.66; 95% CI, 1.25– 2.20), multilobe infiltration (OR, 1.50; 95% CI, 1.15– 1.96), age (OR, 1.05; 95% CI, 1.04– 1.07), and blood urea nitrogen (OR, 1.03; 95% CI, 1.01– 1.06) were independent predictors for the occurrence of CVEs, while level of blood sodium (OR, 0.98; 95% CI, 0.97– 0.99) was protective factor. Renal failure (OR, 9.46; 95% CI, 4.17– 21.48), respiratory failure (OR, 9.32; 95% CI, 5.91– 14.71), sepsis/septic shock (OR, 7.87; 95% CI, 3.58– 17.31), new cerebrovascular diseases (OR, 5.94; 95% CI, 1.78– 19.87), new heart failure (OR, 4.04; 95% CI, 1.15– 14.14), new arrhythmia (OR, 2.38; 95% CI, 1.11– 5.14), aspiration (OR, 1.95; 95% CI, 1.09– 3.50), CURB-65 (OR, 1.57; 95% CI, 1.21– 2.02), and white blood cell count (OR, 1.05; 95% CI, 1.02– 1.09) were independent predictors for 30-day mortality in elderly patients with CAP, while lymphocyte count (OR, 0.63; 95% CI, 0.46– 0.87) was protective factor. Conclusion: Patients with CVEs had heavier disease burden and worse prognosis. Early recognition of risk factors is meaningful to strengthen the management in elderly patients with CAP.Keywords: community-acquired pneumonia, cardiovascular events, prognostic factors, elderly

The three precision measurements of the cross section $\sigma\big(e^+e^-\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-\gamma(\gamma)\big)$ using initial state radiation by the KLOE collaboration provide an important input for the prediction of the hadronic contribution to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon. These measurements are correlated for both statistical and systematic uncertainties and, therefore, the simultaneous use of these measurements requires covariance matrices that fully describe the correlations. We present the construction of these covariance matrices and use them to determine a combined KLOE measurement for $\sigma\big(e^+e^-\rightarrow\pi^+\pi^-\gamma(\gamma)\big)$. We find, from this combination, a two-pion contribution to the muon magnetic anomaly in the energy range $0.10 < s < 0.95$ GeV$^2$ of $a_{\mu}^{\pi^+\pi^-} = (489.8 \pm 1.7_{\rm stat} \pm 4.8_{\rm sys} ) \times 10^{-10}$., Comment: 20 pages, 8 figures. Calcite precipitation plays a significant role in processes such as geological carbon sequestration and toxic metal sequestration and, yet, the rates and mechanisms of calcite growth under close to equilibrium conditions are far from well understood. In this study, a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D) was used for the first time to measure macroscopic calcite growth rates. Calcite seed crystals were first nucleated and grown on sensors, then growth rates of calcite seed crystals were measured in real-time under close to equilibrium conditions (saturation index, SI = log ({Ca2+}/{CO32−}/Ksp) = 0.01–0.7, where {i} represent ion activities and Ksp = 10−8.48 is the calcite thermodynamic solubility constant). At the end of the experiments, total masses of calcite crystals on sensors measured by QCM-D and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) were consistent, validating the QCM-D measurements. Calcite growth rates measured by QCM-D were compared with reported macroscopic growth rates measured with auto-titration, ICP-MS, and microbalance. Calcite growth rates measured by QCM-D were also compared with microscopic growth rates measured by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and with rates predicted by two process-based crystal growth models. The discrepancies in growth rates among AFM measurements and model predictions appear to mainly arise from differences in step densities, and the step velocities were consistent among the AFM measurements as well as with both model predictions. Using the predicted steady-state step velocity and the measured step densities, both models predict well the growth rates measured using QCM-D and AFM. This study provides valuable insights into the effects of reactive site densities on calcite growth rate, which may help design future growth models to predict transient-state step densities.

We analyzed clinicopathologic factors using a Cox regression analysis, the Kaplan-Meier method, and propensity score matching (PSM).Results: The multivariate Cox regression analysis of not only validated the traditional prognostic factors such as tumor site, neural invasion, poor differentiation, and tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) stage but also identified a new prognostic factor, preoperative mean platelet volume (MPV) for overall survival (OS, HR, 0.47; 95% CI: 0.25– 0.89, P = 0.020). A nomogram was created to predict the probability of 3-year and 5-year OS. We found that neoadjuvant chemotherapy improved OS in patients with OSCC.Conclusion: Preoperative MPV, being associated with female, neoadjuvant chemotherapy, and advanced stage (Stage III and IV), may be a new prognostic factor for OS of patients with OSCC. The nomograms provided useful prediction for OS in OSCC patients. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy may improve the OS of patients with OSCC.Keywords: oral squamous cell carcinoma, overall survival, nomogram, mean platelet volume, neoadjuvant chemotherapy, induction chemotherapy

We have measured the running of the effective QED coupling constant $\alpha(s)$ in the time-like region $0.6<\sqrt s< 0.975$ GeV with the KLOE detector at DA$\Phi$NE using the Initial State Radiation process $e^+e^-\to\mu^+ \mu^-\gamma$. It represents the first measurement of the running of $\alpha(s)$ in this energy region. Our results show a more than 5$\sigma$ significance of the hadronic contribution to the running of $\alpha(s)$, which is the strongest direct evidence both in time- and space-like regions achieved in a single measurement. By using the $e^+e^-\to\pi^+\pi^-$ cross section measured by KLOE, the real and imaginary part of the shift $\Delta\alpha(s)$ has been extracted. By a fit of the real part of $\Delta\alpha(s)$ and assuming the lepton universality the branching ratio $BR(\omega\to\mu^+\mu^-) = (6.6\pm1.4_{stat}\pm1.7_{syst})\cdot 10^{-5} $ has been determined., Comment: 19 pages, 8 figures, version accepted for publication in Phys. High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
The recent interest in a light gauge boson in the framework of an extra U(1) symmetry motivates searches in the mass range below 1 GeV. We present a search for such a particle, the dark photon, in ${\rm e^+ e^-}\rightarrow {\rm U}\gamma$, U$\rightarrow \pi^+\pi^-$ based on 28 million $\mathrm{e^+ e^-} \rightarrow \pi^+ \pi^-\gamma$ events collected at DA$\Phi$NE by the KLOE experiment. The $\pi^+ \pi^-$ production by initial-state radiation compensates for a loss of sensitivity of previous KLOE ${\rm U} \rightarrow \mathrm{e^+ e^-}$, $\mu^+\mu^-$ searches due to the small branching ratios in the $\rho-\omega$ resonance region. We found no evidence for a signal and set a limit at 90\% CL on the mixing strength between the photon and the dark photon, $\varepsilon^2$, in the U mass range between $527$ and $987$~MeV. Above 700 MeV this new limit is more stringent than previous ones., Comment: 6 pages, 9 figures, 1 table, submitted to Phys. Lett. B

Using $1.6$ fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+ e^-\to\phi\to\eta\gamma$ data collected with the KLOE detector at DA$\Phi$NE, the Dalitz plot distribution for the $\eta \to \pi^+ \pi^- \pi^0$ decay is studied with the world's largest sample of $\sim 4.7 \cdot 10^6$ events. The Dalitz plot density is parametrized as a polynomial expansion up to cubic terms in the normalized dimensionless variables $X$ and $Y$. The experiment is sensitive to all charge conjugation conserving terms of the expansion, including a $gX^2Y$ term. The statistical uncertainty of all parameters is improved by a factor two with respect to earlier measurements., Comment: 11 pages, 9 figures, supplement: an ascii table

A measurement of the vector to pseudoscalar conversion decay $\phi \to \pi^0 e^+e^-$ with the KLOE experiment is presented. A sample of $\sim 9500$ signal events was selected from a data set of 1.7 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} \sim m_{\phi}$ collected at the DA$\Phi$NE $e^+e^-$ collider. These events were used to obtain the first measurement of the transition form factor $| F_{\phi \pi^0}(q^2) |$ and a new measurement of the branching ratio of the decay: $\rm{BR}\,(\phi \to \pi^0 e^+e^-) = (\,1.35 \pm 0.05^{\,\,+0.05}_{\,\,-0.10}\,) \times 10 ^{-5}$. The result improves significantly on previous measurements and is in agreement with theoretical predictions., Comment: 13 pages, 4 figures; matches published version

Analyses were stratified by age group (6– 8, 9– 11, 12– 14, and 15– 18 years). Results: The prevalence of overweight and obesity among children aged 6– 18 years was high with 17.62% and 29.05% in boys, 17.57% and 18.04% in girls, respectively. Both boys and girls aged 9– 11 years had the highest rate of obesity in comparison with the other age groups, though the differences in children aged 9– 11 years and 12– 14 years were not statistically significant. Compared with age 6– 8 years, age 9– 11 years (OR=1.59, 95% CI 1.41– 1.79, P< 0.01) and 12– 14 years (OR=1.26, 95% CI 1.48– 1.73, P< 0.01) were independently positively associated with obesity. Importantly, in all subjects, the percentages of being physically active (exercise time ≥ 120 minutes/week) were lower in children aged 9– 11 years in comparison to children in other age groups. This phenomenon remained when this comparison was performed respectively in the normal-weight, overweight, and obesity groups. Even after adjustment for other potential confounders, the probability of being physically active (exercise time ≥ 120 minutes/week) was lower in children aged 9– 11 years (OR=0.86, 95% CI 0.78– 0.94, P< 0.01), but higher in children aged 12– 14 years (OR=1.91, 95% CI 1.69– 2.17, P< 0.01) and aged 15– 18 years (OR=2.22, 95% CI 1.85– 2.66, P< 0.01), when compared with children aged 6– 8 years. Conclusion: Children aged 9– 11 years had a higher prevalence of obesity, but a lower percentage of being physically active. Targeted intervention programs in this key group are needed to address this problem in China. Keywords: overweight, obesity, prevalence, risk factors, exercise time

The neuro-anatomical substrates of major depressive disorder (MDD) are still not well understood, despite many neuroimaging studies over the past few decades. Here we present the largest ever worldwide study by the ENIGMA (Enhancing Neuro Imaging Genetics through Meta-Analysis) Major Depressive Disorder Working Group on cortical structural alterations in MDD. Structural T1-weighted brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans from 2148 MDD patients and 7957 healthy controls were analysed with harmonized protocols at 20 sites around the world. To detect consistent effects of MDD and its modulators on cortical thickness and surface area estimates derived from MRI, statistical effects from sites were meta-analysed separately for adults and adolescents. Adults with MDD had thinner cortical gray matter than controls in the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC), anterior and posterior cingulate, insula and temporal lobes (Cohen's d effect sizes: -0.10 to -0.14). These effects were most pronounced in first episode and adult-onset patients (>21 years). Compared to matched controls, adolescents with MDD had lower total surface area (but no differences in cortical thickness) and regional reductions in frontal regions (medial OFC and superior frontal gyrus) and primary and higher-order visual, somatosensory and motor areas (d: -0.26 to -0.57). The strongest effects were found in recurrent adolescent patients. This highly powered global effort to identify consistent brain abnormalities showed widespread cortical alterations in MDD patients as compared to controls and suggests that MDD may impact brain structure in a highly dynamic way, with different patterns of alterations at different stages of life.

For safer geologic CO2 sequestration (GCS), it is important to understand CO2-brine-cement interactions, which affect wellbore integrity. However, potential effects of sulfate and magnesium ions on cement degradation under GCS conditions are not well understood. Here Class H Portland cement were reacted in brines containing 0.05 M sulfate and/or magnesium ions under both GCS (50 °C and 100 atm CO2) and control (50 °C and atmospheric pressure) conditions. Using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscope coupled with energy dispersive spectrometry and electron back scattered electron (SEM-EDS/BSE), slower cement carbonation rates were observed in the presence of sulfate under GCS conditions, because of gypsum precipitation on cement surfaces. Calcite rather than gypsum formed in both the inner layers of cement samples reacted under GCS conditions, and on cement surfaces reacted under atmospheric pressure conditions. Under GCS conditions, the dissolved CO2 lowered the pH of the solution surrounding cement surfaces, thus favoring the formation of gypsum over calcite on cement surfaces; while the high pH condition in pore solution inside cement favors the formation of calcite over gypsum. The presence of magnesium had no significant effect on cement degradation under GCS conditions, as brucite, magnesium carbonates and magnesium calcite did not form, due to the low pH at cement surface and the limited diffusion of Mg into cement inner layers.

- Abstract
A mechanistic connection between aging and development is largely unexplored. Through profiling age-related chromatin and transcriptional changes across 22 murine cell types, analyzed alongside previous mouse and human organismal maturation datasets, we uncovered a transcription factor binding site (TFBS) signature common to both processes. Early-life candidate cis-regulatory elements (cCREs), progressively losing accessibility during maturation and aging, are enriched for cell-type identity TFBSs. Conversely, cCREs gaining accessibility throughout life have a lower abundance of cell identity TFBSs but elevated activator protein 1 (AP-1) levels. We implicate TF redistribution toward these AP-1 TFBS-rich cCREs, in synergy with mild downregulation of cell identity TFs, as driving early-life cCRE accessibility loss and altering developmental and metabolic gene expression. Such remodeling can be triggered by elevating AP-1 or depleting repressive H3K27me3. We propose that AP-1-linked chromatin opening drives organismal maturation by disrupting cell identity TFBS-rich cCREs, thereby reprogramming transcriptome and cell function, a mechanism hijacked in aging through ongoing chromatin opening.
