8. Sex differences in perceptual processing of Chinese characters emerge in middle-grade primary school children

Abstract

Sex differences in word perception are an important issue in reading. Previous studies that used various word perception tasks have indicated that girls outperform boys. The composite paradigm is a typical task for measuring visual perception and was employed here to identify the age at which sex differences in the perceptual processing of Chinese characters emerge. We tested 124 typically developed children from junior (6-7 years) and middle grades (9-11 years), studying in a primary school. Chinese character processing was better in congruent than incongruent conditions for all children with one or more years of experience in learning Chinese characters. Importantly, girls in the middle grade showed better discrimination sensitivity performances than boys, whereas no sex differences were found in the junior grade. Abstract

The financial industry deals with a vast amount of sensitive data in its business operations.However, the conventional approach of binding financial data for desensitization and using desensitization algorithms is becoming inefficient due to the fast-paced growth of financial businesses and the proliferation of data types.Additionally, manual verification and assessment of desensitized data by security experts are time-consuming and may carry potential privacy risks due to the improper selection of desensitization algorithms.While prior research has emphasized desensitization methods and privacy-preserving technologies, limited work has been conducted on desensitization algorithms from the perspective of automation.To address this issue, an adaptive recommendation framework was propose for selecting desensitization strategies that consider various factors, such as existing privacy protection technologies, data quality requirements of business scenarios, security risk requirements of financial institutions, and data attributes.Specifically, a dual-objective evaluation function was established for privacy risk and data quality to optimize the selection of desensitization algorithm parameters for different algorithms.Furthermore, the desensitization algorithm and parameters were adaptively selected by considering the data attributes through a multi-decision factor system and desensitization effect evaluation system.Compared to traditional approaches, the proposed framework effectively tackle issues of reduced data usability and inadequate personal data privacy protection that derive from manual intervention.Testing on a dataset with multiple financial institution types, the experiments show that the proposed method achieves a recommendation accuracy exceeding 95%, while the desensitized privacy risk level differed by less than 10% from the expected level.Additionally, the recommendation efficiency is 100 times faster than expert manual processing.

Abstract

The electronic structure of active metal centers plays an indispensable role in regulating catalytic reactivity in heterogeneous catalysis, developing other metals as promoters to decorate electronic state is a common strategy, while non‐metal component of carbon as electronic additives to regulate d‐band center has rarely been studied in thermal‐catalysis field. Herein, we report electron‐deficient tetrahedral Co(II) (Td‐cobalt(II)) centers through carbon‐layer modulation for propane dehydrogenation (PDH). It is indicated that bifunctional sites of both Td‐cobalt(II) and metallic‐cobalt are designed, and the in situ generated carbon through the disproportionation of CO on metallic‐cobalt can cover the inactive metallic‐cobalt and tailor d‐band of active Td‐cobalt(II) simultaneously. More importantly, the pre‐deposited carbon‐layer is proposed to decrease electron density of Td‐cobalt(II) and make d‐band center closer to Fermi level, consequently promotes C−H activation in PDH reaction. This study provides new perspective for the utilization of inactive carbon as electronic promoters and unlocks new opportunity to fabricate efficient PDH and other heterogeneous catalysts. 39. Category specificity of N170 response recovery speeds for faces and Chinese characters

Abstract

Neural selectivity of N170 responses is an important phenomenon in perceptual processing; however, the recovery times of neural selective responses remain unclear. In the present study, we used an adaptation paradigm to test the recovery speeds of N170 responses to faces and Chinese characters. The results showed that recovery of N170 responses elicited by faces occurred between 1400 and 1800 ms after stimuli onset, whereas recovery of N170 responses elicited by Chinese characters occurred between 600 and 800 ms after stimuli onset. These results demonstrate category-specific recovery speeds of N170 responses involved in the processing of faces and Chinese characters.

44. Highly efficient separation of Sc3+and Y3+in acid solution by a graphene oxide membrane with interlayer sieving

Abstract

Sc and Y are key rare earth elements and are widely used in lamp phosphors, lasers and high-performance alloys. However, highly efficient extraction and separation of Sc3+and Y3+is laborious, harmful, slow, and costly, strongly necessitating more efficient extraction and separation techniques. Here, we produced hydrated Sc3+- and hydrated Y3+-controlled graphene oxide (GO) membranes and find that both hydrated cations were completely self-rejected by the membrane. By combining this self-rejection effect of the larger hydrated Y3+-controlled GO membrane and the rapid passage of the membrane through the smaller hydrated Sc3+, we proposed a strategy to separate Sc3+and Y3+by using a hydrated Y3+-controlled GO membrane. The experimental results show that the permeation rate of Sc3+exceeds that of Y3+when the separation factor reaches 4.02, which can be attributed to the interlayer sieving effects of the GO membrane. Our finding illustrates the use of a forward osmosis process with a GO membrane for the efficient separation of Sc3+and Y3+by interlayer sieving, which provides a new effective and eco-friendly method for the separation of rare earth elements.
