Background Major hepatectomy for liver malignancies carries with large risks. Perioperative nutritional support plays a vital role for postoperative recovery. However, there are few studies focusing on predictions of postoperative complications and prognosis using postoperative loss of skeletal muscle mass (PLSMM) in acute stage after major hepatectomy. Objective To identify the change inskeletal muscle index (SMI), and to investigate risk factors for PLSMM, as well as its correlation with postoperative complications after major hepatectomy for liver cancer. Methods A total of 97 patients who received major hepatectomy for liver cancer from Department of General Surgery, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University between July 2018 and August 2022 were included. The preoperative and postoperative day 5 skeletal muscle area at the third lumbar vertebra level was measured, respectively, using computed tomographic images. The postoperative change rate of SMI was calculated. The PLSMM was defined as the lowest tertile of the percent change in SMI, according to which the patients were divided into PLSMM and Non-PLSMM group. Baseline data, surgical and postoperative indices were collected and analyzed. Results SMI was decreased in 54 patients postoperatively. Thirty-two and 65 patients were assigned to the PLSMM group (SMI≤-3.59%) and Non-PLSMM groups (SMI>-3.59%), respectively. Compared with Non-PLSMM group, PLSMM group had longer operation time, more intraoperative blood loss and higher ratio of microvascular invasion (MVI) (P210 min〔OR=1.973, 95%CI (1.286, 4.936) 〕were risk factors associated with PLSMM (P210 min〔OR=2.958, 95%CI (0.918, 9.529) 〕 and blood loss >500 mL〔OR=1.003, 95%CI (1.001, 1.007) 〕 were risk factors associated with postoperative complications (P210 min were risk factors associated with PLSMM. PLSMM was the independent predictor of postoperative complications, which negatively affected postoperative outcomes after major hepatectomy.

Energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy and high-angle annular dark-field in a Cs-corrected scanning transmission electron microscope are employed to characterize the atomic-scale strain distribution in the active region of the InAs-based interband cascade laser. For the first time, energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy is utilized for the quantitative calculation of the zero-strain region, by which the geometric phase analysis of high-angle annular dark-field imaging has been carried out. The strain distribution of the active region with high accuracy has been obtained. The analysis of the out-of-plane strain shows that the active region in the InAs-based interband cascade laser is strain-compensated, while a certain degree of elemental intermixing still exists in the active region. This detailed strain distribution can provide valuable insights into the optimization of the growth conditions for the active region such as growth temperature, V/III flux ratio, and growth process to minimize the elemental intermixing and obtain a better performance interface while maintaining the strain-compensated state. This study aimed to explore predictors of Chinese university faculty's occupational well-being in the reshaped work environment. To achieve this aim, the job demands-resources model was utilized to test the relationships of job demands (work-family conflict) and job resources (leader support) to occupational well-being among 375 university faculty (145 males and 230 females) at a comprehensive research university in China. We further intended to extend the theory by incorporating personal demands (the perfectionism personality) within the research model. Results indicated work-family conflict was indirectly related to job satisfaction via the mediator of emotional exhaustion. Leader support was indirectly related to job satisfaction via the mediators of emotional exhaustion and work engagement. The two perfectionism dimensions (concerns and strivings) functioned differently in the model. The concerns dimension positively predicted exhaustion but was nonsignificant for engagement. By contrast, the strivings dimension positively predicted engagement but was nonsignificant for exhaustion.

Guided by Lent's (Journal of Counseling Psychology, 51, 482-509, 2004 (See CR36)) social cognitive model of well-being, we proposed a conceptual model for international students sojourning in China, with proactive personality, host university support, social self-efficacy and host culture adoption as predictors and psychosocial and academic adjustment as outcomes. Altogether 789 international students were recruited for testing the model. Results from testing the model showed that proactive personality had direct or indirect relationships with social self-efficacy, academic and psychosocial adjustment. Host university support had direct or indirect relationships with social self-efficacy, host culture adoption, and psychosocial adjustment. Social self-efficacy had direct or indirect relationships with host culture adoption and psychosocial adjustment. Host culture adoption had direct relationships with psychosocial adjustment. We also expanded Lent's model by incorporating moderation perspectives, revealing that host university support moderated the relationships between proactive personality and psychological adjustment, as well as the relationships of social self-efficacy to host culture adoption and academic adjustment. China has emerged as one of the leading destinations for international students, attracting growing research interest in examining their cross-cultural adjustment. Our study moved beyond prior work by offering the first systematic review on predictors of international student adjustment in China, with all its three domains taken into consideration: psychological, sociocultural and academic adjustment. Based on the 33 reviewed articles, a wide range of predictors were identified. Guided by the Job Demands-Resources Model, these predictors were categorized into six broad clusters: demographics, personal resources, contextual resources, personal demands/barriers, contextual demands/resources, and other variables. The reviewed studies placed more emphasis on predictors in resources clusters than on those in demands/barriers clusters. Research strengths, gaps and inconsistencies in the literature were identified and discussed. Accordingly, an agenda was developed to highlight opportunities for theoretical and empirical advancement for future research.
