In this paper an approach to generate hidden attractors based on piecewise linear (PWL) systems is studied. The approach consists of the coexistence of self-excited attrators and hidden attractors, i.e., the equilibria of the system are immersed in the basin of attraction of the seft-excited attractors, so hidden attractors appear around these self-excited attractors. The approach starts by generating a double-scroll attractor based on two equilibria presented heteroclinic orbits. Then, two equilibria are added to the system, so biestability is generated by displaying two self-excited attractor. In this paper we show that hidden attractors arise as a consequence of the rupture of trajectories that resemble heteroclinic orbits at a larger scale. Therefore, multistability appears naturally as an interesting phenomenon present in this class of dynamical systems via hidden attractors and self-excited attractors. The study suggests the feasibility of the geometric design of new classes of multistable systems with coexistence of the two classes of attractors or even multistable systems without equilibria at all.

In this work, we present an algorithm for the design of $n\times n$-bits substitution boxes (S-boxes) based on time series of a discrete dynamical system with chaotic behavior. The elements of a $n\times n$-bits substitution box are given by binary sequences generated by time series with uniform distribution. Particularly, time series with uniform distribution are generated via two lag time chaotic series of the logistic map. The aim of using these two lag time sequences is to hide the map used, and thus U-shape distribution of the logistic map is avoided and uncorrelated S-box elements are obtained. The algorithm proposed is simple and guarantees the generation of S-boxes, which are the main component in block cipher, fulfill the strong S-box criteria: bijective; nonlinearity; strict avalanche criterion; output bits independence criterion; criterion of equiprobable input/output XOR distribution and; maximum expected linear probability. The S-boxes that fulfill these criteria are commonly known as "good S-boxes". Finally, an application based on polyalphabetic ciphers principle is developed to obtain uniform distribution of the plaintext via dynamical S-boxes.

A circuit architecture is proposed and implemented for a dynamical network composed of a type of hybrid chaotic oscillator based on Unstable Dissipative Systems (UDS). The circuit architecture allows selecting a network topology with its link attributes and to study, experimentally, the practical synchronous collective behavior phenomena. Additionally, based on the theory of dynamical networks, a mathematical model of the circuit was described, taking into account the natural tolerance of the electronic components. The network is analyzed both numerically and experimentally according to the parameters mismatch between nodes.

In this paper the collective dynamics of $N$-coupled piecewise linear (PWL) systems with different number of scrolls and coupled in a master-slave sequence configuration is studied, i.e. a ring connection with unidirectional links. Itinerary synchronization is proposed to detect synchrony behavior with systems that can present generalized multistability. Itinerary synchronization consists in analyzing the symbolic dynamics of the systems by assigning different numbers to the regions where the scrolls are generated. It is shown that in certain parameter regimes if the inner connection between nodes is given by means of considering all the state variables of the system, then itinerary synchronization occurs and the coordinate motion is determined by the node with the smallest number of scrolls. Thus the collective behavior in all the nodes of the network is determined by the node with least scrolls in its attractor leading to generalized multistability phenomena which can be detected via itinerary synchronization. Results about attacks to the network are also presented, for example, when the PWL system is attacked by removing a given link to produce an open ring configuration. Depending on the inner connection properties, the nodes present multistability or preservation in the number of scrolls of the attractors.

In this paper we present a dynamical system to generate Brownian motion based on the Langevin equation without stochastic term and using fractional derivatives, i.e., a deterministic Brownian motion model is proposed. The stochastic process is replaced by considering an additional degree of freedom in the second order Langevin equation. Thus it is transformed into a system of three first order linear differential equations, additionally $\alpha$-fractional derivative are considered which allow us obtain better statistical properties. Switching Surfaces are established as a part of fluctuating acceleration. The final system of three $\alpha$-order linear differential equations does not contain a stochastic term, so the system generates motion in a deterministic way. Nevertheless, from the time series analysis, we found that the behavior of the system exhibits statistics properties of Brownian motion, such as, a linear growth in time of the mean square displacement, a Gaussian distribution. Furthermore, we use the detrended fluctuation analysis to prove the Brownian character of this motion.

In this paper we present a new class of dynamical system without equilibria which possesses a multi scroll attractor. It is a piecewise-linear (PWL) system which is simple, stable, displays chaotic behavior and serves as a model for analogous non-linear systems. A multistable system generated by a Piecewise Linear (PWL) system based on the jerky equation is presented. The systems behaviour is characterised by means of the Nearest Integer or round(x) function to control the switching events and to locate the corresponding equilibria among each of the commutation surfaces. These surfaces are generated by means of the switching function dividing the space in regions equally distributed along one axis. The trajectory of this type of system is governed by the eigenspectra of the coefficient matrix which can be adjusted by means of a bifurcation parameter. The behaviour of the system can change from multi-scroll attractors into a mono-stable state to the coexistence of several single-scroll attractors into a multi-stable state. Numerical results of the dynamics and bifurcation analyses of their parameters are displayed to depict the multi-stable states.

A switching dynamical system by means of piecewise linear systems in R^3 that presents multistability is presented. The flow of the system displays multiple scroll attractors due to the unstable hyperbolic focus-saddle equilibria with stability index of type I, i.e., a negative real eigenvalue and a pair of complex conjugated eigenvalues with positive real part. This class of systems is constructed by a discrete control mode changing the equilibrium point regarding the location of their states. The scrolls are generated when the stable and unstable eigenspaces of each adjacent equilibrium point generate the stretching and folding mechanisms to generate chaos, i.e., the unstable manifold in the first subsystem carry the trajectory towards the stable manifold of the immediate adjacent subsystem., Comment: 20 pages, 10 figures

We report experimental results obtained with a circuit possessing dynamic logic architecture based on one of the theoretical schemes proposed by H. Peng and collaborators in 2008. The schematic diagram of the electronic circuit and its implementation to get different basic logic gates are displayed and discussed. In particular, we show explicitly how to get the electronic NOR, NAND, and XOR gates. We present a very simple electronic implementation of the tent map, one of the best-known discrete dynamical systems. This is achieved by using integrated circuits and passive elements only. The experimental behavior of the tent map electronic circuit is compared with its numerical simulation counterpart.
