Objective: Increased health literacy (HL) improves the management of chronic diseases. Data on the HL levels of adolescents with asthma are limited. In this study, we aimed to investigate the HL levels of adolescents with asthma and the effect of HL levels on asthma control. Methods: Our research included 81 adolescents with asthma and 47 age and sex-matched controls. The validated version of the European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire (HLS-EU-Q16) was utilized to estimate the participants’ health literacy levels. In addition, the Asthma Control Test (ACT) was used to determine the degree of asthma control. Results: No significant difference between the asthmatic adolescents (n = 45, 55.6%) and the control group (n = 28, 59.6%) has been established in terms of the number of participants who were considered to have adequate HL (p = 0.658). The difference between the patient and control groups in health care, disease prevention, health promotion, and overall HL scores was determined non-significant. According to the ACT scores, the overall median HL score was significantly higher in patients with controlled asthma {34.4 (14.6:50)} than in those with uncontrolled asthma {32.3 (16.7:48.9)} (p = 0.037). It was determined that there was a difference in the distribution of controlled asthma, uncontrolled asthma, and controls in HL subgroups (poor, problematic-limited, sufficient, and perfect HL) (p = 0.002). Conclusion: The level of HL is associated with asthma control. A significant proportion of asthmatic adolescents who participated in our research displayed low HL scores. Further studies should be conducted to increase the HL levels of adolescents to achieve better asthma control.

Trakya Bölgesi, yüzyıllar boyunca ortak bir coğrafyaya ve tarihsel geçmişe sahip farklı uygarlıklara ev sahipliği yaparak bir bütün olma özelliğini taşımıştır. Ancak, 19. yy sonları ve 20.yy başlarından itibaren, dünya tarihinde yaşanılan siyasi ve ekonomik gelişmelerin etkisiyle bütünlüğünü kaybetmiştir. Günümüzde bölge; Türkiye, Yunanistan ve Bulgaristan sınırları içinde kalan, büyük bir coğrafi alanı kapsamaktadır. Bu coğrafi sınırlar içinde farklı uygarlıklara ait çok sayıda anıtsal ve sivil mimari inşa edilmiştir. Mimari mirası oluşturan bu yapılar insanlığın ortak malı olup tüm özgün nitelikleriyle ve değerleriyle korunması gereken yapı ve yapı gruplarıdır. Tarihi bir yapı/yapı grubunun korunmaya değer kılan nitelikleri ve değerleriyle birlikte korunması ve sürekliliğinin sağlanması korumanın temel amacıdır. Bu çalışma kapsamında Trakya bölgesinden restorasyon geçirmiş anıtsal yapılar seçilerek restorasyon uygulamalarının miras değerleri üzerindeki etkilerinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Bu bağlamda, çalışmada tarihi yapıların koruma uygulamaları öncesi sahip olduğu miras değerleri ortaya konularak, uygulama sonrası değerlerin sürekliliği sorgulanmıştır. Edirne Kültür Varlıklarını Koruma Bölge Kurulu (EKVKBK) ve Edirne Vakıflar Bölge Müdürlüğü (VBM) arşivlerinde yapılan araştırma ve yerinde gözlem ve tespitler doğrultusunda bir taşınmazın kültür varlığı olarak tanımlanabilmesi için sahip olması gereken anıt değer kriterlerini içeren tablo ile değerlendirmeleri yapılmıştır.

This study researches the impact of trade openness on the economic performances of selected Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries, while incorporating elements of domestic investments into the empirical analysis in the wake of the recent trends of trade liberalization among nations. The study is based on an empirical analysis of panel data observations from the selected countries within the framework of the Fully Modified Ordinary Least Square (FMOLS) and the Dynamic Ordinary Least Square (DOLS) regression techniques. The empirical results affirm the existence of a long-run relationship among the variables. However, while domestic investment and the size of the labor force significantly impact economic growth in a positive direction among these countries, trade openness was found to be negatively impacting economic growth for the period of the study. It is there-fore recommended that cogent effort should be directed towards investments that are crucial for the improvement of labor productivity and the production value chains in the domestic economies to dissuade or minimize the rate of export of raw primary commodities. Also, adequate steps should be taken to improve the overall business environment, remove trade impediments, and strengthen institutions among the countries in the region to harness the benefits of trade in our increasingly globalized world. Resumen Este estudio investiga el impacto de la apertura comercial en el desempeño económico de países seleccionados de Oriente Medio y África del Norte (MENA, por sus siglas en inglés), al tiempo que incorpora elementos de la inversión nacional en el análisis empírico a raíz de las recientes tendencias hacia la liberalización del comercio entre las naciones. El estudio se basa en un análisis empírico de datos de panel de los países seleccionados mediante las técnicas de regresión del Mínimo Cuadrado Completamente Modificado (FMOLS, por sus siglas en inglés) y el Mínimo Cuadrado Dinámico Ordinario (DOLS, por sus siglas en inglés). Los resultados empíricos afirman la existencia de una relación de largo plazo entre las variables. Sin embargo, si bien la inversión nacional y el tamaño de la fuerza laboral tienen un impacto positivo significativo en el crecimiento económico de estos países, se encontró que la apertura comercial tuvo un impacto negativo en el crecimiento durante el período de estudio. Por lo tanto, se recomienda que se dirijan esfuerzos contundentes hacia inversiones cruciales para mejorar la productividad laboral y las cadenas de valor de producción en las economías nacionales para disuadir o minimizar la tasa de exportación de materias primas primarias. Además, se deben tomar las medidas adecuadas para mejorar el entorno empresarial en general, eliminar los obstáculos comerciales y fortalecer las instituciones de los países de la región para aprovechar los beneficios del comercio en nuestro mundo cada vez más globalizado.

OBJECTIVES This study is designed to evaluate the efficacy of rhomboid intercostal and subserratus plane (RISS) block under the surgeon’s direct vision for providing postoperative pain relief after thoracic surgeries. METHODS Forty patients who underwent thoracotomy were prospectively recruited and randomly assigned to group R (intravenous patient-controlled analgesia + continued RISS block; n = 20) and group C (intravenous patient-controlled analgesia; n = 20). Numeric rating scale at rest and cough, at post-anaesthetic care unit, 1, 2, 6, 9, 12, 24 and 48 h, was used as the primary outcome measure. Secondary outcome measures were the amount of tramadol consumption, the number of patients required rescue analgesia, the occurrence of postoperative adverse effects, pulmonary functions and the overall satisfaction with pain management. RESULTS Numeric rating scale scores both at rest and during coughing were significantly lower in group R than in group C at all time intervals (P CONCLUSIONS Continuous RISS block improved postoperative outcomes of thoracic surgery in terms of reduced postoperative pain scores, sparing opioid consumption, pulmonary function and patient satisfaction.

Bu çalışmada, İstanbul’un dört ilçesinde bulunan Sağlık Meslek Liselerinde görev yapan 250 öğretmen dahil edilmiştir. Araştırmada okul müdürlerinin liderlik stilleri ile örgütsel sessizlik arasındaki ilişkisi incelenmiştir. Çalışma kapsamında örgütsel sessizlik ölçümünü yapmak adına Çakıcı (2008)’de yer alan ölçek kullanılmıştır. Çakıcı (2008)’de yer alan ölçekte işgörenlerin sessiz kalma sebeplerinin belirlenmesine sağlayan 31 ifade yer almaktadır. Liderlik stilleri konusunda okul müdürlerini hedef alan Şahin (2003) çalışmasının geliştirdiği ölçek kullanılmıştır. Ölçekte 32 madde yer almaktadır ve “dönüşümcü liderlik” ile “sürdürümcü liderlik” boyutları bulunmaktadır. Sonuçlara göre, erkek öğretmenler kadın öğretmenlere göre izolasyon korkusu yüzünden örgütsel sessizlik seviyeleri daha fazladır. Regresyon analizi sonucunda sürdürümcü liderliğin dönüşümcü liderlikten daha fazla örgütsel sessizlik ile ilişkili olduğu belirlenmiştir.

Objective: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common type of chronic liver diseases and it is the hepatic evidence of metabolic syndrome (MtS). But patients with NAFLD have not always MtS, and all patients with MtS have not always NAFLD. In our study, we aimed to investigate the factors related to NAFLD in patients with non-MetS. Materials And Methods: Our study was made at least 400 volunteers from 10 randomly selected Family Health Centers (FHCs) in our city center. Complete blood counts, biochemical tests and hepatobiliary ultrasonography (hUSG) were performed from the individuals. Body mass index (BMI), homeostasis Model Assessment of insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR), fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) and BARD scores were calculated. Results: The prevalence of fatty liver was detected as 33.8% with hUSG. The frequencies of stage 1, 2 and 3 fatty liver were found to be 71.6%, 25.4% and 3.0%, respectively, in those with fatty liver (n=67). In univariate analysis; there were statistically significant differences between those with and without fatty liver individuals for the parameters of age, BMI, waist circumference, diastolic blood pressure, hemoglobin, AST/ALT ratio, ALT, GGT and triglyceride levels. Giriş: Alerjik astım tanılı çocuk olgularda ağaç polenleri alerjenlerine karşı duyarlılık oranlarının, ağaç polen duyarlılığına etki eden çeşitli faktörlerin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmaya alerjik astım tanılı 5-18 yaş arası 560 çocuk olgu alındı. Olguların klinik, laboratuvar ve deri prik testi verileri retrospektif olarak incelendi. Bulgular: Çalışmada yer alan olgularda deri prik testlerinde, ağaç polen alerjilerine genel duyarlılık [Olea europeae (Zeytin ağacı), Alnus glutinosa (kızılağaç), Platanus acerifolia (Çınar ağacı), Corylus avellena (Fındık ağacı), Betula verrucosa (Huş ağacı), Pinus silvestris (Sarıçam ağacı)]’ den en az birine duyarlılık varlığı) oranı %17,7 olarak saptandı.
