Slow variations in cavity-Q and microwave power are thought to play a role in the long-term frequency stability of gas-cell atomic clocks. Here, we use an atomic-candle method to study the aging of a TE(sub 011) microwave cavity's resonant frequency and quality factor when a glass resonance cell containing Rb87 loads the cavity. Our results suggest that the alkali vapor coats the inside glass surface of the resonance cell with a thin metallic film; and that, as this film evolves, the quality factor degrades. (In our experiments, the quality factor changed by 30% over a timescale of months.) More generally, the pre- sent work demonstrates the efficacy of the atomic-candle method for investigating cavity resonances. The following pages include the survey forms of information gathered during the survey of the 12 Red Brick buildings for ECO-1: Install High Efficiency Lighting systems. Each form includes the specific lighting system information by building and the building's functional areas, such as corridors, latrines, offices, etc. Below is a listing of the minimal amount of information gathered for each functional area within each building. (1) room name or type; (2) lighting fixture type; (3) lamp type; (4) number of lamps per fixture; (5) watts per lamp; (6) number of fixtures per room or area; (7) ballast's amp factor; (8) operating on or off electrical peak; (9) light level reading in foot candles; and (10) additional comments, including unique operating hours, unique fixture layout, unique day lighting conditions affecting light levels, unique building conditions.

A new aircrew oxygen delivery system using multiple sodium chlorate oxygen generators was tested for contaminant offgassing to assure physiological compatibility under anticipated use conditions. Measurements were made of oxygen flow, temperature, pressure, purity, and contaminant analyses for chlorine, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, total hydrocarbons, and water vapor in the breathing oxygen. The system met all specifications for oxygen purity and contaminant content under both normal and emergency use conditions.

Selected procedures are described for conducting nesting studies of upland nesting ducks in the prairie pothole region. Emphasis is on the use of standard procedures so that comparable results can be obtained. Major topics addressed are finding nests by flushing hens with drags pulled by vehicles, recording of appropriate data, and calculating nest success rates. Techniques are described for conducting nest searches, candling eggs in the field, determining fate of clutches, and identifying species from evidence at nests.
