Introduction: Excoriation disorder (ExD) is a pathology recognized by DSM-5, and it is considered a part of the obsessive-compulsive spectrum. ExD is associated with a high rate of psychiatric comorbidity (e.g., depression, ADHD, substance use disorders, etc.). Objectives: The main objective of this review was to explore the available evidence to support the diagnosis and treatment of skin picking in elderly population. Methods: A literature review of the available sources reporting on ExD in elderly patients, realized by searching three electronic databases (PubMed, Cochrane, Clarivate/Web of Science) but also the grey literature. All papers published between January 1990 and July 2023, including the terms "excoriation disorder", "compulsive skin picking", "dermatillomania" and "elderly" or "old-age patients" were reviewed. Results: The information about ExD was extracted almost exclusively from reports on elderly patients with neurocognitive disorders. Tactile hallucinations, delusions of contamination, social isolation and focusing on own bodily sensations, and organic causes- dehydration, allergies, renal insufficiency, hepatic and pancreatic diseases, as well as toxic causes- e.g., adverse events of certain drugs should be investigated in elderly patients exhibiting signs of ExD. A differential diagnosis is very important in this population in order to find the most adequate treatment. Behavioral treatments, serotonergic antidepressants, and glutamatergic modulators have been explored in patients with ExD, although specific trials for elderly patients with this disorder are still lacking. However, case reports support the utility of several serotonergic antidepressants in the elderly. Conclusions: ExD is a less explored disorder in the elderly, where an extensive differential diagnosis and screening for somatic/psychiatric comorbidities are needed. Introduction: A novel psychosocial intervention, dignity therapy, designed initially to help terminally ill patients to process their most valuable memories or existential aspects, is nowadays studied for multiple indications, like alcoohol use disorders, affective disorders, or neurocognitive disorders. In oncologic patients the importance for dignity therapy can not be overemphasized in relation to their quality of life, starting from these patients' essential need to embrace realistic expectations and to cope with the disease-related stressful situations. Objectives: To study the impact of dignity therapy over the quality of life in patients with oncologic diagnoses based on a literature search. Methods: A literature review was performed using as paradigm "dignity therapy" and "quality of life" and "oncologic patients". All papers published between 2015 and 2019, found in the main electronic databases (EMBASE, CINAHL, PubMed), were evaluated. Results: A number of 33 papers were included in the primary analysis, and only 12 remained after filtering out the results according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Quality of life increased as reported by good quality trials (n=2), in relation to the improvement of other secondary variables, like the will to live, anxiety, depression, overall perception of patients' clinical status. Several study protocols have been identified with respect to this subject, so new results are expected in the future. Conclusions: Dignity therapy may have a positive impact over quality of life in patients with oncologic diagnoses, but larger clinical trials are needed in order to support its recommendation on a wider scale. In the context of the fourth revolution in healthcare technologies, leveraging monitoring and personalization across different domains becomes a key factor for providing useful services to maintain and promote well-being. This is even more crucial for older people, with aging being a complex multi-dimensional and multi-factorial process which can lead to frailty. The NESTORE project was recently funded by the EU Commission with the aim of supporting healthy older people to sustain their well-being and capacity to live independently. It is based on a multi-dimensional model of the healthy aging process that covers physical activity, nutrition, cognition, and social activity. NESTORE is based on the paradigm of the human-in-the-loop cyber-physical system that, exploiting the availability of Internet of Things technologies combined with analytics in the cloud, provides a virtual coaching system to support healthy aging. This work describes the design of the NESTORE methodology and its IoT architecture. We first model the end-user under several domains, then we present the NESTORE system that, analyzing relevant key-markers, provides coaching activities and personalized feedback to the user.
