Improving the lubrication condition of oil-starved rolling bearings is a proven method to improve their reliability and service life. In this study, a composite surface texture was designed inspired by the microscopic structure of cactus spine, pitcher plant and blood clam. Superhydrophobic surface coating technology was also employed. An oil self-transportation biomimetic composite surface was developed on the guiding surface of a thrust ball bearing. Experimental results show that the biomimetic composite surface effectively drives oil for high-speed directional transport. The biomimetic composite guiding surface bearing demonstrated excellent best vibration and friction torque performance. Compared to conventional bearing, it has an overall vibration performance improvement of 37.4 %, as well as a significant reduction in friction torque of 43.3 % and wear of 72.2 %. We conclude that oil self-transportation biomimetic composite surfaces on rolling bearings can significantly improve the lubrication condition.

4. Therapeutic potential of ADSCs in diabetic wounds: a proteomics-based approach

BackgroundDiabetes mellitus (DM), a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood sugar, leads to delayed or non-healing wounds, increasing amputation risks, and placing a significant burden on patients and society. While extensive research has been conducted on adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) for promoting wound healing, there is a scarcity of studies focusing on diabetic wounds, particularly those employing proteomics and bioinformatics approaches.ObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate the mechanisms by which ADSCs promote diabetic wound healing using proteomics and bioinformatics techniques.MethodsHealthy rat fat tissue was used to isolate ADSCs. A T2DM rat model with back wounds was established. The experimental group received ADSC injections around the wound, while the control group received PBS injections. Wound healing rates were documented and photographed on days 0, 3, 7, 10, and 14. On day 7, wound tissues were excised for HE and Masson’s staining. Additionally, on day 7, tissues were analyzed for protein quantification using 4D-DIA, with subsequent GO and KEGG analyses for differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) and protein-protein interaction (PPI) network analysis using STRING database (String v11.5). Finally, Western blot experiments were performed on day 7 wounds to verify target proteins.Results and ConclusionsIn all measured days postoperatively, the wound healing rate was significantly higher in the ADSC group than in the PBS group (day 7: p < 0.001, day 10: p = 0.001, day 14: p < 0.01), except on day 3 (p > 0.05). Proteomic analysis identified 474 differentially expressed proteins, with 224 key proteins after PPI analysis (78 upregulated and 146 downregulated in the ADSC group). The main cellular locations of these proteins were “cellular anatomical entity” and “protein-containing complex”, while the biological processes were “cellular processes” and “biological regulation”. The primary molecular functions were “binding” and “catalytic activity”, with GO enrichment focused on “Wnt-protein binding”, “neural development”, and “collagen-containing extracellular matrix”. Further analysis of PPI network nodes using LASSO regression identified Thy1 and Wls proteins, significantly upregulated in the ADSC group, as potentially crucial targets for ADSC application in diabetic wound treatment.

5. Dual-colored bacterial biosensor responsive to cadmium, mercury, and lead for detecting heavy metal pollution in seawater

Estimating bioavailable heavy metals in seawater is closely related to the indication of ecological risk. This study combined a CadR-regulated vioABE expression module and a MerR-regulated VioC expression module to generate a novel dual-colored bacterial cell-based biosensor. After genetic optimization, the preferred biosensor could detect as low as 9.7 nM Cd(II), 24.4 nM Pb(II), and 0.5 nM Hg(II). Increased grey-green intensities were observed in Cd(II) (4.9 nM to 40 μM) and Pb(II) (24.4 nM to 200 μM) exposure groups. Interestingly, increased purple intensity was observed in the Hg(II) exposure group (3.7 to 468.8 nM) in a dose-dependent manner. A low-cost and mini-equipment biosensing process was established for detecting pollutant heavy metals in seawater, with the added advantage of providing information on the bioavailability and cytotoxicity of heavy metals. High salinity weakly interferes with the biosensing response to Hg(II). This study shows that novel colorimetric biosensors have the potential to simultaneously report various toxic metals in environmental water samples, contributing to protecting marine ecology.

Objective This study aimed to investigate the feasibility, efficacy, and safety of focused ultrasound (FUS) for the treatment of vulvar low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (VLSIL) with persistent symptoms.Methods This retrospective analysis included 24 VLSIL patients who underwent FUS treatment. At each follow-up visit, the clinical response was assessed including changes in symptoms and signs. In addition, the histological response was assessed based on the vulvar biopsy results of the 3rd follow-up. CryptoKitties, a trendy game on Ethereum that is an open-source public blockchain platform with a smart contract function, brought nonfungible tokens (NFTs) into the public eye in 2017. NFTs are popular because of their nonfungible properties and their unique and irreplaceable nature in the real world. The embryonic form of NFTs can be traced back to a P2P network protocol improved based on Bitcoin in 2012 that can realize decentralized digital asset transactions. NFTs have recently gained much attention and have shown an unprecedented explosive growth trend. Herein, the concept of digital asset NFTs is introduced into the medical and health field to conduct a subversive discussion on biobank operations. By converting biomedical data into NFTs, the collection and circulation of samples can be accelerated, and the transformation of resources can be promoted. In conclusion, the biobank can achieve sustainable development through “decentralization.”

Abstract Background Surgery is becoming less invasive as technology advances. Natural orifice specimen extraction surgery (NOSES) ushered in a new era of minimally invasive techniques. At the same time, NOSES is gaining popularity in the world. With their distinct advantages, surgical robots have advanced the development of NOSES. The aim of current study was to compare the short-term outcomes between robotic-assisted NOSES and laparoscopic-assisted NOSES for the treatment of middle rectal cancer. Methods Patients with middle rectal cancer who underwent robotic-assisted or laparoscopic-assisted NOSES at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University between January 2020 and June 2022 had their clinicopathological data collected retrospectively. 46 patients were enrolled in the study: 23 in the robotic group and 23 in the laparoscopic group. Short-term outcomes and postoperative anal function in the two groups were compared. Results There was no significant difference in the clinicopathological data between the two groups. The robotic group had less intraoperative blood loss (p = 0.04), less postoperative abdominal drainage (p = 0.02), lower postoperative white blood cell counts (p = 0.024) and C-reactive protein levels (p = 0.017), and shorter catheter removal time when compared to the laparoscopic group (p = 0.003). Furthermore, there were no significant difference in mean operative time (159 ± 31 min vs 172 ± 41 min) between the robotic and laparoscopic groups (p = 0.235), but time to naked the rectum (86.4 ± 20.9 min vs. 103.8 ± 31.5 min p = 0.033) and time of digestive tract reconstruction (15.6 ± 3.88 min vs. 22.1 ± 2.81 min p

10. Comparison of the efficacy of focused ultrasound at different focal depths in treating vulvar lichen sclerosus

AbstractObjective This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of focused ultrasound (FU) at different focal depths in treating vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS).Methods A retrospective study was conducted on 84 patients with VLS. Among them, 43 cases were treated with FU at a focal depth of 2.5 mm and 41 cases at a focal depth of 4.0 mm. Therapeutic time, treatment energy, postoperative efficacy, complications and recurrence rates were compared.Results No statistically substantially differences in age, disease course, history of immune system diseases, lesion size and severity of symptoms were found between the two groups. All patients successfully received FU therapy. No significant difference in curative rate was observed between the two groups at 3, 6 and 12 months after FU therapy. At 12 months after FU therapy, the recurrence rate of the experimental group (FU treatment at 2.5 mm focal depth) was lower than the control group (FU treatment at 4.0 mm focal depth) (7.0% vs 24.4%, p = 0.027). The experimental group was treated for a shorter period of time [22.69 ± 0.64 (min) vs 24.93 ± 0.72(min), p = 0.022] and at a lower dose[5,026.05 ± 148.00(J) vs 5,484.26 ± 160.60(J) p = 0.039].Conclusion Compared with that at the routine focal depth (4.0 mm), FU therapy at a low treatment depth (2.5 mm) can achieve a similar therapeutic effect but lower recurrence rate, therapeutic time and treatment energy. This work provides insight into the optimization of clinical protocols.

11. Fabrication of Loose Nanofiltration Membrane by Crosslinking TEMPO-Oxidized Cellulose Nanofibers for Effective Dye/Salt Separation

Dye/salt separation has gained increasing attention in recent years, prompting the quest to find cost-effective and environmentally friendly raw materials for synthesizing high performance nanofiltration (NF) membrane for effective dye/salt separation. Herein, a high-performance loose-structured NF membrane was fabricated via a simple vacuum filtration method using a green nanomaterial, 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxide radical (TEMPO)-oxidized cellulose nanofiber (TOCNF), by sequentially filtrating larger-sized and finer-sized TOCNFs on a microporous substrate, followed by crosslinking with trimesoyl chloride. The resulting TCM membrane possessed a separating layer composed entirely of pure TOCNF, eliminating the need for other polymer or nanomaterial additives. TCM membranes exhibit high performance and effective dye/salt selectivity. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) analysis shows that the TCM membrane with the Fine-TOCNF layer has a tight layered structure. Further characterizations via Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) confirmed the presence of functional groups and chemical bonds of the crosslinked membrane. Notably, the optimized TCM-5 membrane exhibits a rejection rate of over 99% for various dyes (Congo red and orange yellow) and 14.2% for NaCl, showcasing a potential candidate for efficient dye wastewater treatment.

Penile squamous cell carcinoma (PSCC) is a rare disease. The treatment options for advanced penile cancer are often limited, and the prognosis remains poor. We reported a 52-year-old male recurrent and metastatic PSCC patient with high PD-L1 expression (90%) and TMB (14.4 muts/Mb). He had undergone penectomy, bilateral inguinal lymph node dissection, and excision of the abdominal wall mass. Despite cisplatin-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy and sequential chemotherapy with docetaxel plus cisplatin then being carried out, the carcinoma still progressed. The patient then obtained progression-free survival with continuous sintilimab, although he experienced the new onset of ICI-induced diabetes after 24 cycles of sintilimab and required sustained insulin treatment. He had negative type 1 diabetes-associated autoantibodies and the susceptible HLA genotype DR3-DQ2 haplotype. This is the first patient with radiation and multichemorefractory PSCC who has obtained the remarkable anti-tumor effect of partial regression exceeding 32 months during continuous sintilimab and anlotinib treatment.

13. Assessment of cutting performance and surface quality on turning pure polytetrafluoroethylene

Considering the excellent properties of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), the demand for this material in semiconductor manufacturing equipment has been rapidly growing in recent years. PTFE parts with special shapes can be efficiently produced by mechanical cutting methods. The main objective of the present study is to conduct turning experiments to evaluate the cutting performance and surface quality of pure PTFE. In this regard, the mechanism of the chips’ formation, cutting temperature, and cutting force were analyzed to study the cutting behavior and cutting performance. Moreover, the subsurface damage of the finished surface was investigated to evaluate the surface quality. The obtained results show that the continuous type of chips was formed in all cutting conditions. When the cutting temperature varied in the range of 40.8–57.9 °C, the cutting force varied in the range of 2.3–25.2 N. The deepest subsurface damage layer was 123.17 μm when the cutting depth and the feed rate were set to 1.0 mm and 0.1 mm/r, respectively. Considering the chip formation, cutting temperature, cutting force, surface quality, and machining efficiency as the main affecting parameters, it is found that the ideal feed rate and cutting depth at the spindle speed of 800 r/min were 0.5 mm/r and 0.8 mm, respectively.

14. Molecular characteristics and stable carbon isotope compositions of dicarboxylic acids and related compounds in wintertime aerosols of Northwest China

Abstract Dicarboxylic acids are one of the important water-soluble organic compounds in atmospheric aerosols, causing adverse effects to both climate and human health. More attention has therefore been paid to organic acids in aerosols. In this study, the molecular distribution and diurnal variations of wintertime dicarboxylic acids in a rural site of Guanzhong Plain, Northwest China, were explored. Oxalic acid (C2, day: 438.9 ± 346.8 ng m−3, night: 398.8 ± 392.3 ng m−3) is the most abundant compound followed by methylglyoxal (mGly, day: 207.8 ± 281.1 ng m−3, night: 222.9 ± 231.0 ng m−3) and azelaic (C9, day: 212.8 ± 269.1 ng m−3, night: 211.4 ± 136.7 ng m−3) acid. The ratios of C9/C6 and C9/Ph indicating that atmospheric dicarboxylic acids in winter in the region mainly come from biomass burning. Furthermore, secondary inorganic ions (NO3 −, SO4 2−, and NH4 +), relative humidity, liquid water content, and in-situ pH of aerosols are highly linearly correlated with C2, suggesting that liquid phase oxidation is an important pathway for the formation of dicarboxylic acids. The δ13C analysis of C2 suggested that lighter carbon isotope compositions tend to be oxidized to form aqueous-phase secondary organic aerosols (aqSOA), leading to the decay of 13C in aqSOA products rather than aerosol aging. This study provides a theoretical basis for the mechanism of formation of dicarboxylic acid.

15. Investigations for vibration and friction torque behaviors of thrust ball bearing with self-driven textured guiding surface

Abstract In order to improve the starved lubrication condition of rolling bearings, three kinds of textures, namely dimple, groove texture, and gradient groove texture, were developed on the guiding surface of thrust ball bearings in this study. The results show that gradient groove texture has the one-way self-driving function of liquid droplets. The root mean square (RMS) value of vibration acceleration of gradient groove textured bearing (GGB) decreased by 49.1% and the kurtosis decreased by 24.6% compared with non-textured bearing (NB) due to the directional spreading effect of gradient groove textures on oil. The frequency domain analysis showed that the textures mainly suppressed the medium and high-frequency energy of bearing vibration, and the GGB was reduced the most with 65.3% and 48%, respectively. In addition, whether the grease is sufficiently sheared has a large impact on the oil guiding effect, and the friction torque of GGB could decrease by 10.5% compared with NB in the sufficiently sheared condition. Therefore, the gradient groove texture with oil self-driven effect on the guiding surface of rolling bearing can effectively improve the lubrication condition of the bearing and thus reduce the bearing vibration and friction torque, which has a promising application prospect.

16. Transvaginal versus transabdominal specimen extraction surgery for right colon cancer: A propensity matching study

BackgroundThe transvaginal route for specimen extraction is considered ideal for colorectal surgery, but its safety is still questioned. There has been little research on transvaginal natural orifice specimen extraction surgery (NOSES) in the right hemicolectomy. As a result, we conducted a study comparing transvaginal NOSES to traditional transabdominal specimen extraction surgery.Patients and methodsData on female patients who underwent radical right hemicolectomy at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University between January 2015 and December 2020 were collected retrospectively. A total of 847 patients were compliant, with 51 undergoing the transvaginal specimen extraction surgery (NOSES) group and 796 undergoing the transabdominal specimen extraction surgery (TISES) group. A propensity score matching method (1:2) was used to balance the clinicopathological characteristics of the two groups.ResultsFinally, 138 patients were enrolled in our study, with 46 in the NOSES group and 92 in the TISES group. Compared to the TISES group, the NOSES group had less intraoperative blood loss (p = 0.036), shorter time to first flatus (p < 0.001), shorter time to first liquid diet (p < 0.001), lower postoperative white blood cell counts (p = 0.026), lower C-reactive protein levels (p = 0.027), and lower visual analog scale (VAS) scores (p < 0.001). Regarding the quality of life after surgery, the NOSES group had better role function (p < 0.01), emotional function (p < 0.001), and improved symptoms of postoperative pain (p < 0.001) and diarrhea (p = 0.024). The scar satisfaction was significantly higher in the NOSES group than in the TISES group. Overall survival and disease-free survival in two groups were similar.ConclusionThe short-term results of transvaginal NOSES were superior to conventional transabdominal specimen extraction surgery. At the same time, transvaginal NOSES could improve the abdominal wall appearance and quality of life. The long-term survival was similar in the two surgical approaches. Therefore, transvaginal NOSES is worthy of our implementation and promotion.

Recent progress has substantially increased the operating frequency of large-area electronic (LAE) devices. Their integration into circuits has enabled unprecedented system-level capabilities, toward future wireless applications for the Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G/6G. These exploit large dimensions and flexible form factors. In this work, we focus on giga-Hertz (GHz) zinc-oxide (ZnO) thin-film transistors (TFTs) as a foundational device for enabling GHz LAE circuits and systems. To further understand their operation and limits in the newly possible frequency regime, we incorporate the effects of temperature and of non-quasi-static (NQS) physics into the device models. We then analyze operation including these effects on a fundamental circuit block, the cross-coupled inductor-capacitor (LC) oscillator. It is used in representative LAE systems, namely, a 13.56-MHz radio-frequency identification (RFID) reader array for near-field energy transfer, and a 1-GHz phased array for far-field radiation beam steering. The co-design of devices, circuits, and systems is essential for achieving flexible and meter-scale monolithic-integrated LAE wireless systems. For these, understanding temperature limitations and the NQS effect is crucial.

The results of finite element analysis is imported into Ncode Designlife fatigue analysis module,and the fatigue life of flexspline is obtained by combining S-N Stress-Life curve of flexspline material. The relationship between the maximum stress and the length,wall thickness and tooth width of the flexspline are explored by orthogonal experiment. It provides a theoretical reference for the optimal design of flexspline structure.

IntroductionThe fusion of infrared and visible images can improve image quality and eliminate the impact of changes in the agricultural working environment on the information perception of intelligent agricultural systems.MethodsIn this paper, a distributed fusion architecture for infrared and visible image fusion is proposed, termed RADFNet, based on residual CNN (RDCNN), edge attention, and multiscale channel attention. The RDCNN-based network realizes image fusion through three channels. It employs a distributed fusion framework to make the most of the fusion output of the previous step. Two channels utilize residual modules with multiscale channel attention to extract the features from infrared and visible images, which are used for fusion in the other channel. Afterward, the extracted features and the fusion results from the previous step are fed to the fusion channel, which can reduce the loss in the target information from the infrared image and the texture information from the visible image. To improve the feature learning effect of the module and information quality in the fused image, we design two loss functions, namely, pixel strength with texture loss and structure similarity with texture loss.Results and discussionExtensive experimental results on public datasets demonstrate that our model has superior performance in improving the fusion quality and has achieved comparable results over the state-of-the-art image fusion algorithms in terms of visual effect and quantitative metrics.

Abstract Background Previous studies have demonstrated the preclinical pharmacological and toxicological consistency, and clinical pharmacokinetic equivalence of bevacizumab biosimilar LY01008 with reference bevacizumab (Avastin). This randomized controlled trial aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of LY01008 with Avastin in first‐line treatment of Chinese patients with advanced or recurrent non‐squamous non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods Stage IIIB‐IV NSCLC patients with evaluable lesions, good physical status, and adequate organ functions from 67 centers across China were randomized in a ratio of 1:1 to receive LY01008 or Avastin 15 mg/kg intravenously in combination with paclitaxel/carboplatin (combined treatment) for 4‐6 cycles, followed by maintenance monotherapy with LY01008 until disease progression, intolerable toxicity, or death. The primary endpoint was objective response rate (ORR) in accordance with Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) version 1.1 confirmed by independent radiological review committees (IRRC). Secondary endpoints included disease control rate (DCR), duration of response (DoR), progression‐free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and safety. This study was registered in ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT03533127). Results Between December 15th, 2017, and May 15th, 2019, a total of 649 patients were randomized to the LY01008 (n = 324) or Avastin (n = 325) group. As of September 25th, 2019 for primary endpoint analysis, 589 patients received ORR evaluation, with a median number of combined treatment cycles of 5 (range 1‐6) and median duration of treatment of 3.0 (range 0.0‐5.1) months. ORR of response‐evaluable patients in the LY01008 and Avastin groups were 48.5% and 53.0%, respectively. The stratified ORR ratio was 0.91 (90% CI 0.80‐1.04, within the prespecified equivalence margin of 0.75‐1.33). Up to May 15th, 2020, with a median follow‐up of 13.6 (range 0.8‐28.4) months, no notable differences in DCR, median DoR, median PFS, median OS, and 1‐year OS rate were observed between the LY01008 and Avastin groups. There were no clinically meaningful differences in safety and immunogenicity across treatment groups. Conclusions LY01008 demonstrated similarity to Avastin in terms of efficacy and safety in Chinese patients with advanced or recurrent non‐squamous NSCLC. LY01008 combined with paclitaxel/carboplatin is expected to become a new treatment option for unresectable, metastatic, or recurrent non‐squamous NSCLC patients in the first‐line setting.

To date, multiple graphene@MXene hybrids have been reported via various synthesis approaches, but almost all the graphene@MXene hybrids inevitably used the reduced graphene oxide that prepared by chemical oxidation/reduction method, which generally involved the complex and dangerous operation procedure, and the highly toxic chemical reagent. How to prepare graphene@MXene hybrid through a simple, safe and eco-friendly synthetic route is highly desired. Compared with traditional synthesis technology, ultrasound synthesis strategy displays the merits of simplicity, low cost and environment protection. Herein, MXene (Ti3C2Tx) nanoflakes coupled with graphene nanosheets (graphene@MXene) were prepared in N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) by simple ultrasound-assisted liquid-phase exfoliation method for the first time. Besides, the effect of types of solvent with different viscocity, sonication temperature and sonication duration time on the property of graphene@MXene hybrids were systematacially investigated. It is found the liquid-phase exfoliated graphene owned excellent electron transfer ability and the MXene (Ti3C2Tx) nanoflakes possessed outstanding adsorption property, the as-synthesized graphene@MXene hybrid exhibited significant signal synergistic enhancement effect toward the oxidation of hazardous veterinary drug residue compound (chlorpromazine) and food additives (rhodamine B). Based on this, a novel and sensitive electrochemical sensor was fabricated, the linear detection ranges were 5 nM to 0.5 μM for chlorpromazine with sensitivity of 1090 µA μM−1 cm−2, and 10 nM to 2.5 μM for rhodamine B with sensitivity of 440 and 102.14 µA μM−1 cm−2. Besides, the detection limits were evaluated to be as low as 1.25 nM and 2.45 nM for chlorpromazine and rhodamine B, respectively.

Abstract This work reports influence of two different electrolytes, carbonate ester and ether electrolytes, on the sulfur redox reactions in room-temperature Na–S batteries. Two sulfur cathodes with different S loading ratio and status are investigated. A sulfur-rich composite with most sulfur dispersed on the surface of a carbon host can realize a high loading ratio (72% S). In contrast, a confined sulfur sample can encapsulate S into the pores of the carbon host with a low loading ratio (44% S). In carbonate ester electrolyte, only the sulfur trapped in porous structures is active via ‘solid–solid’ behavior during cycling. The S cathode with high surface sulfur shows poor reversible capacity because of the severe side reactions between the surface polysulfides and the carbonate ester solvents. To improve the capacity of the sulfur-rich cathode, ether electrolyte with NaNO3 additive is explored to realize a ‘solid–liquid’ sulfur redox process and confine the shuttle effect of the dissolved polysulfides. As a result, the sulfur-rich cathode achieved high reversible capacity (483 mAh g−1), corresponding to a specific energy of 362 Wh kg−1 after 200 cycles, shedding light on the use of ether electrolyte for high-loading sulfur cathode.

23. Effects of white Gaussian noise on dynamic balance in healthy young adults

Abstract It has been known that short-time auditory stimulation can contribute to the improvement of the balancing ability of the human body. The present study aims to explore the effects of white Gaussian noise (WGN) of different intensities and frequencies on dynamic balance performance in healthy young adults. A total of 20 healthy young participants were asked to stand at a dynamic balance force platform, which swung along the x-axis with an amplitude of ± 4° and frequency of 1 Hz. Their center of pressure (COP) trajectories were recorded when they were stimulated by WGN of different intensities (block 1) and different frequencies (block 2). A traditional method and detrended fluctuation analysis (DFA) were used for data preprocessing. The authors found that only with 75–85 dB WGN, the COP parameters improved. WGN frequency did not affect the dynamic balance performance of all the participants. The DFA results indicated stimulation with 75 dB WGN enhanced the short-term index and reduced the crossover point. Stimulation with 500 Hz and 2500 Hz WGN significantly enhanced the short-term index. These results suggest that 75 dB WGN and 500 Hz and 2500 Hz WGN improved the participants’ dynamic balance performance. The results of this study indicate that a certain intensity of WGN is indispensable to achieve a remarkable improvement in dynamic balance. The DFA results suggest that WGN only affected the short-term persistence, indicating the potential of WGN being considered as an adjuvant therapy in low-speed rehabilitation training.

24. Exploratory Analysis of the Factors Associated With Success Rates of Confirmatory Randomized Controlled Trials in Cancer Drug Development

This study examined the outcomes of recent confirmatory randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in phase III that were initiated between 2005 and 2017 for oncologic drugs in the United States and identified several factors that were associated with the success of RCTs. Our regression analysis showed that studies with progression‐free survival or response rate as primary end point were more likely to succeed than studies with overall survival (odds ratio (OR) = 2.94 and 6.23, respectively). The status of development was also linked with success rates. Studies for non‐lead indication tended to have lower success rates than studies for lead indication (OR = 0.68). Studies for first‐line therapy were observed to have low success rates compared with studies for post second‐line therapies (OR = 0.37). Studies for which strong prior evidence was not listed in their publication tended to be more successful than studies that followed rigorous RCTs or single arm studies for the indication. These results suggest that historical success rates may reflect not only the important features of trials, which can be observed directly from study design and results, but also the background status of trials in clinical development pathways.

Aiming at the problems of low efficiency and imperfect test scheme of the existing accelerated life test of the harmonic reducer, a double stress step-down accelerated life test method is proposed. Taking the harmonic reducer for industrial robots as the research object, through comparing the acceleration schemes and analyzing the failure mechanism of accelerated life, a double stress step-down test load spectrum is formulated. Based on the iterative relationship between the step-down load stresses of each segment, the optimal parameters of Weibull distribution of harmonic driver are calculated by genetic algorithm. The results show that the acceleration factor for this double stress step-down life test is 12.5. The test efficiency is accurately and effectively improved by this scheme, and a reference for optimizing the design of the harmonic reducer and shortening the test cycle of the accelerated life test of the harmonic reducer are provided.

Objective This study was aimed at investigating the clinical efficacy and studying the possible mechanism of FUS applications to treat cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 1 (CIN1). Methods This was a prospective clinical study, in which 30 patients with CIN1 (28/30 of the patients were HPV positive) were enrolled and treated with FUS therapy by gynecologist. All patients were followed up for 3 months after FUS therapy. Telephone interviews, PAP smear, colposcopic examinations, cervical biopsies and HPVDNA tests were performed to assess the safety and effectiveness of FUS therapy for HPV-positive CIN1. The expression of p16, Ki-67 and Fas in the cervical tissues were examined in order to account for the possible mechanism of FUS therapy for CIN1 with HPV infection. Results FUS therapy was tolerated well, and no severe complications were observed in any patient. After FUS treatment, twenty-five patients were cured completely, and two cases were improved with the cervical smear results reversed to normal, and three cases remained the same status as before treatment. The total effectiveness rate was 90.00% (27/30). Barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli L.) is the most serious weed threatening rice production, and its effects are aggravated by resistance to the quinclorac herbicide in the Chinese rice fields. This study conducted a comparative proteomic characterization of the quinclorac-treated and non-treated resistant and susceptible E. crus-galli using isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantification (iTRAQ). The results indicated that the quinclorac-resistant E. crus-galli had weaker photosynthesis and a weaker capacity to mitigate abiotic stress, which suggested its lower environmental adaptability. Quinclorac treatment significantly increased the number and expression of the photosynthesis-related proteins in the resistant E. crus-galli and elevated its photosynthetic parameters, indicating a higher photosynthetic rate compared to those of the susceptible E. crus-galli. The improved adaptability of the resistant E. crus-galli to quinclorac stress could be attributed to the observed up-regulated expression of eight herbicide resistance-related proteins and the down-regulation of two proteins associated with abscisic acid biosynthesis. In addition, high photosynthetic parameters and low glutathione thiotransferase (GST) activity were observed in the quinclorac-resistant E. crus-galli compared with the susceptible biotype, which was consistent with the proteomic sequencing results. Overall, this study demonstrated that the resistant E. crus-galli enhanced its adaptability to quinclorac by improving the photosynthetic efficiency and GST activity.

Avermectin (AVM), as a biological insecticide, is widely used in agriculture and forestry production globally. However, inhalation of AVM may pose a risk, and the lung is the direct target, but the cytotoxicity of AVM on human lung cells is still unclear. Here, we attempted to elucidate the cytotoxic effect and molecular mechanism of AVM on human lung A549 cells. The results indicated that AVM inhibits cell proliferation, and enhances programmed cell death (apoptosis and autophagy). In addition, we found the AVM-treated cells showed an obvious drop in mitochondrial membrane potential and LC3-I/II, increased ROS production, DNA double-strand breaks, caspase-3/9 activated, PARP cleaved, cytochrome c and Bax/Bcl-2 content rise. The results showed that AVM induced mitochondria-related apoptosis and autophagy in lung A549 cells. These results indicate that AVM can pose a potential threat to human health by inducing DNA damage and programmed cell death.

By combining the discrete element method (DEM) with computational fluid dynamics (CFD), this study proposes a three-dimensional CFD-DEM fluid-solid coupling microscopic computational model for analyzing the micromechanisms of instability and failure in a coal-bearing soil slope during rainfall. The CFD-DEM fluid-solid coupling model indicated that the main failure mode of the coal-bearing soil slopes was rainwater washing, and the slope sliding surface was predicted as an approximately linear segment. The adaptability of this numerical method was verified by comparing its results with those of rain-washed slopes in an outdoor model test. Rainfall changed the microscopic parameters such as the force chain, coordination number, and porosity of the slope soil particles. The porosity of the slope's top particles increased from 0.35 in the initial state to 0.80 in the unstable state. This change was directly related to the macroscopic mechanics of the slope soil. By analyzing the changes in the microscopic parameters of the particles, the failure evolution law of the coal-bearing soil slopes during rainfall was explored from a microscopic perspective. This study not only provides a theoretical basis for the protection design and construction of coal-bearing soil slopes in the region but can also analyze macroscopic mechanical laws of discrete media from a micro-macro perspective in geotechnical engineering.

Aims: To investigate the role of Vasohibin-1 (VASH-1), silence information adjustment factor 2-related enzyme 1 (SIRT1)/hypoxic-inducible factor 1α (HIF1α) and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGFβ1) /Smad3 signaling pathways in oxidative stress and fibrosis of diabetic kidney disease (DKD).Materials and Methods: A diabetic rat model was established in vivo and rat mesangial cells (RMCs) were cultured in vitro with high glucose via transfection with Vash1 small interfering RNA (siRNA), Hif1a siRNA, Sirt1 siRNA and TGFβ1/Smad3 pathway inhibitor (SB431542). Renal histology was used to detect renal changes. Real-time PCR and western blot were used to analyze the expression of VASH-1, SIRT1, HIF1α, TGFβ1, Smad3, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), connective tissue growth factor (CTGF) and fibronectin (FN). Expression levels of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNFα), TGFβ1, superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX), and malondialdehyde (MDA) in rat tissues and cell culture supernatant were detected by ELISA and chemiluminescence assay, while cell proliferation was detected by CCK-8.Results: The level of VASH-1 in renal tissues of diabetic rats was decreased, while both high glucose and Vash1 siRNA inhibited the expression of VASH-1 and SIRT1, increased the levels of HIF1α, TGFβ1, and Smad3 in RMCs, thus up-regulating oxidative stress and fibrosis factors, and abnormally increasing cell proliferation activity (P < 0.05). However, inhibition of SIRT1/HIF1α signaling pathway only reduced TGFβ1 and Smad3 (P < 0.05), while VASH-1 remained unchanged (P > 0.05).Conclusion: VASH-1 was under-expressed in renal tissues of diabetic rats and regulated the pathological process of oxidative stress and fibrosis in DKD via downstream SIRT1/HIF1α and TGFβ1/Smad3 signaling pathways.

However, they also have many ecosystem disservices (EDS) and are almost always refused by the decision-makers of the government, especially in China. Better understanding the residents’ perceived ES and EDS and the impact on the behavioral intention (BI) toward UCGs is of great value to solve the conflicts between residents and the government concerning UCGs and to develop sustainable UCGs. Following the theory of planned behavior (TPB), we measured perceived ES/EDS, attitudes (ATT), perceived behavioral control (PBC), subjective norm (SN), and BI of 1142 residents in Changsha, China, and investigated their direct and indirect causal relationships using structural equation modeling (SEM). The results showed that: (1) ATT, PBC, and SN significantly and positively impact the BI of UCGs and together explained 54% of the variation of BI. (2) The extended TPB model with additional components of perceived ED/EDS improved the explanatory ability of the model, explaining 65% of the variance of BI. Perceived ES and perceived EDS showed significant direct positive and negative impacts on UCGs, respectively. They also indirectly impacted BI by influencing ATT, PBC, and SN. The findings of this study can extend our understanding of residents’ attitudes, behavior, and driving mechanism toward UCGs, and can help decision makers to design better policies for UCG planning and management.

To tackle the issues of the uncertainty number of the activated antennas and high computational complexity of maximum likelihood (ML) detection algorithm in quadrature spatial modulation (QSM),a low-complexity detec-tion algorithm was proposed.Firstly,the system model was reconstructed into a new model suitable for low-complexity detection algorithms in fixed active antennas systems based on compressed sensing (CS) signal re-construction theory.Then,based on the idea of orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) algorithm and reconstructed model,a candidate set of activated antennas was obtained.Lastly,using ML algorithm to search the candidate,the index of activated antennas and the modulation symbol were selected.Simulation results show that the proposed de-tector is capable of achieving about 90% reduction in complexity with low performance loss compared with ML al-gorithm.

Wrinkling is one of the main failure modes in sheet metal forming process and may lead to assembly problems of the parts. Control of wrinkling is difficult due to the complex deformation behavior of the sheet metal. A finite element model for side blankholder method to control wrinkling was established and used for the simulation. Trials and simulations were conducted to analyze the parameters of wrinkling characteristics. Results show that with the increase in the angle of the side blankholder, the resistance force of the side blankholder decreases. The blank length on the side blankholder should be small enough. The fillet radius of the side blankholder should be large enough to reduce the deformation. The bottom gap between the die and the side blankholder cannot be too large because the support of the blank will decrease in the forming process. In order to verify the simulation results, three blank lengths (20, 15, and 5 mm) over the side blankholder were used in the experiment. The results of the comparison tests testify the reliability of the simulation. The optimal parameter of the blank length is 5 mm. A new clamp method was designed for wrinkling control to overcome the shortcomings of the side blankholder method. The precision of the part met the requirement using soft rubber and two layers of rubber plates.

In order to find out the relationship between the consumer evaluation indicator and the quality of cigarette products, to effectively guide the improvement of cigarette manufacturing technology, based on the evaluation standards of the sensory quality of the cigarette industry, the hierarchical structure indicator of attribute elements of cigarette products are established by using the analytic hierarchy process. Through the quantitative investigation of consumers and the investigation of experts, combined with the correlation analysis, the correlation degree between the evaluation indicators of consumers and the design elements of product attributes is verified, and the path is modified and optimized by Shapley value decomposition method. Finally, the transformation path of the internal quality demand of cigarette consumers is completed Build. The establishment of this path can effectively solve the problems of correlation between cigarette sensory quality and cigarette manufacturing technology, as well as the corresponding relationship between cigarette sensory quality and consumer evaluation of cigarette quality indicators. It is of considerable significance to effectively guide the improvement of cigarette product formula and improve consumer satisfaction through consumer evaluation.

Background. Activating AMPKα negatively regulates Egr1 to inhibit inflammatory cytokines in high glucose. miR-34a inhibition increases phosphorylated AMPKα through mediating SIRT1 to suppress the development of fatty liver. Aim of the Study. To clarify the function of Egr1 on the inflammation and fibrosis in high glucose-cultured MCs, as well as to explore the effects of metformin on miR-34a pathway and Egr1 expression. Methods. We transfected MCs with miR-34a inhibitor. And MCs were transfected with small interfering RNA for silencing Egr1 and SIRT1. Quantitative real-time PCR was used to assay the transcription levels of Egr1 mRNA and miR-34a. Western blot was used to test the protein. And ELISA was used to measure inflammatory factors. Results. High glucose upregulates Egr1 to aggravate the inflammation and fibrosis in MCs. miR-34a suppresses the activation of SIRT1/AMPKα and results in promoting Egr1 in high glucose-cultured MCs. Metformin attenuates high glucose-stimulated inflammation and fibrosis in MCs by regulating miR-34a-mediated SIRT1/AMPKα activity and the downstream Egr1 protein. Conclusion. We enriched the effects of miR-34a pathway regulating Egr1 in high glucose-cultured MCs. It provides a foundation for future researches considering Egr1 as a therapeutic target and a new direction for the clinical application of metformin in early DKD.

The serum miR-192 levels were detected by Real-Time PCR and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) and fibronectin (FN) were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Naringin, a flavanone glycoside extracted from Citrus grandis Osbeck, has a wide range of pharmacological effects. In the present study we aimed at demonstrating the protective effect of naringin against diabetic kidney disease (DKD) and elucidating its possible molecular mechanism underlying. The beneficial effect of naringin was assessed in rats with streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes and high glucose-induced HBZY-1 cells. According to our results, first we found that naringin relieved kidney injury, improved renal function and inhibited collagen formation and renal interstitial fibrosis. Second, we confirmed that naringin restrained oxidative stress by activating Nrf2 antioxidant pathway. Moreover, the results suggested that naringin significantly resisted inflammatory reaction by inhibiting NF- κ B signaling pathway. Taken together, our results demonstrate that naringin effectively alleviates DKD, which provide theoretical basis for naringin clinically used to treatment of DKD.

The aim of this study was to investigate whether alpha lipoic acid (LA) regulates high glucose-induced mesangial cell proliferation and extracellular matrix production via mTOR/p70S6K/4E-BP1 signaling. The effect of LA on high glucose-induced cell proliferation, fibronectin (FN), and collagen type I (collagen-I) expression and its mechanisms were examined in cultured rat mesangial cells by methylthiazol tetrazolium (MTT) assay, flow cytometry, ELISA assay, and western blot, respectively. LA at a relatively low concentration (0.25 mmol/L) acted as a growth factor in rat mesangial cells, promoted entry of cell cycle into S phase, extracellular matrix formation, and phosphorylated AKT, mTOR, p70S6K, and 4E-BP1. These effects disappeared when AKT expression was downregulated with PI3K/AKT inhibitor LY294002. Conversely, LA at a higher concentration (1.0 mmol/L) inhibited high glucose-induced rat mesangial cell proliferation, entry of cell cycle into S phase, and extracellular matrix exertion, as well as phosphorylation of mTOR, p70S6K, and 4E-BP1 but enhanced the activity of AMPK. However, these effects disappeared when AMPK activity was inhibited with CaMKK inhibitor STO-609. These results suggest that LA dose-dependently regulates mesangial cell proliferation and matrix protein secretion by mTOR/p70S6K/4E-BP1 signaling pathway under high glucose conditions.

- Abstract
An enhanced formation of brown carbon (BrC) with a non-negligible warming effect at the tropopause has recently been found. However, its formation mechanism is unclear. Here we report a BrC formation process that happens during air mass upward transport by conducting simultaneously a 4-hour time resolution of measurement on atmospheric BrC at the mountain foot (MF, 400m a.s.l.) and mountainside (MS, 1120m a.s.l.) of Mt. Hua, China in 2016 summer. Our results showed that the daytime light-absorption (Abs365nm) of BrC at MS is approximately 60% lower than that at MF due to a dilution effect caused by the planetary boundary layer expansion, but the daytime light-absorption of BrC relative to black carbon at MS is about 30% higher than that at MF, suggesting a significant formation of secondary BrC in the lifting process of air mass from MF to MS. Such a secondary formation accounted for >50% of BrC at MS but only 27% of BrC at MF. Moreover, N:C elemental ratio of the daytime BrC was 15% higher at MS than that at MF, mainly due to an aerosol aqueous phase formation of water-soluble organic nitrogen (WSON) compounds. Stable nitrogen isotope composition further indicated that such light-absorbing WSON compounds were produced from the aerosol aqueous-phase reaction of carbonyls with NH4 +. Our work for the first time revealed that ammonia -induced aerosol aqueous reactions can significantly promote BrC formation during the air mass lifting process, which is probably responsible for an enhanced light absorption of BrC in the upper troposphere.
