Abstract Background Sarcopenia is a prevalent muscle disorder in old people leading to higher fracture rate, mortality, and other adverse clinical outcomes. Evidence indicates that short‐chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which are beneficial gut microbial metabolites, were reduced in old people with sarcopenia. This study aimed to determine whether the use of SCFAs as a supplement can be a therapeutic strategy of sarcopenia in a pre‐clinical model. Methods Seven‐month‐old pre‐sarcopenic senescent accelerated mouse prone 8 (SAMP8) mice received daily SCFAs cocktail (acetate, butyrate, and propionate) for 3 months. Age‐matched senescence accelerated mouse resistant 1 (SAMR1) and SAMP8 mice receiving sodium‐matched drinking water were control groups. The gut microbiota composition analysis of aged mice with or without sarcopenia was conducted by 16S rDNA sequencing. Gut barrier‐related proteins and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) concentration were biomarkers of gut permeability. Colon inflammation levels, circulatory SCFAs concentration, muscle quality, function, and underlying pathways were detected by cell number counting, RT‐qPCR, gas chromatography–mass spectrometry, measurements of muscle wet weight and grip strength, ex vivo functional test, treadmill endurance test, transcriptomic sequencing, morphological and immunofluorescent staining, as well as western blot. Abstract Objective This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility and performance of deep transfer learning (DTL) networks with different types and dimensions in differentiating thymomas from thymic cysts in a retrospective cohort. Materials and Methods Based on chest‐enhanced computed tomography (CT), the region of interest was delineated, and the maximum cross section of the lesion was selected as the input image. Five convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and Vision Transformer (ViT) were used to construct a 2D DTL model. The 2D model constructed by the maximum section (n) and the upper and lower layers (n − 1, n + 1) of the lesion was used for feature extraction, and the features were selected. The remaining features were pre‐fused to construct a 2.5D model. The whole lesion image was selected for input and constructing a 3D model. Results In the 2D model, the area under curve (AUC) of Resnet50 was 0.950 in the training cohort and 0.907 in the internal validation cohort. In the 2.5D model, the AUCs of Vgg11 in the internal validation cohort and external validation cohort 1 were 0.937 and 0.965, respectively. The AUCs of Inception_v3 in the training cohort and external validation cohort 2 were 0.981 and 0.950, respectively. The AUC values of 3D_Resnet50 in the four cohorts were 0.987, 0.937, 0.938, and 0.905. Conclusions The DTL model based on multiple different dimensions can be used as a highly sensitive and specific tool for the non‐invasive differential diagnosis of thymomas and thymic cysts to assist clinicians in decision‐making.

Abstract Research on housing inequality has predominantly focused on the differentiation of housing states at specific time points in contemporary China, with minimal attention given to understanding how individuals’ housing states evolve throughout their life course. This study, based on a retrospective survey conducted in Shanghai between 2018 and 2019, investigates the progression of residents’ housing careers and the influence of both ascribed and achieved factors. The findings reveal that individuals from privileged families are secured with advantages and even already become homeowners at the outset of their housing careers. In contrast, the influence of achieved factors takes time to manifest; for instance, educational attainment may not be determinant initially but positively correlates with upward mobility in a later stage, particularly among younger cohorts. Furthermore, it has been found permanent migrants who transferred to local hukou perform well in achieving upward housing mobility. Despite lacking the advantages of ascribed factors, they manage to catch up and even surpass locals through their proactive efforts. This study underscores the significance of adopting a temporal perspective in comprehending housing inequality and also emphasizes the dynamic influence of both ascribed and achieved factors on individuals’ housing outcomes in a restructured housing market.

Abstract Crohn’s disease (CD) is a complex chronic inflammatory disorder with both gastrointestinal and extra-intestinal manifestations associated immune dysregulation. Analyzing 202,359 cells from 170 specimens across 83 patients, we identify a distinct epithelial cell type in both terminal ileum and ascending colon (hereon as ‘LND’) with high expression of LCN2, NOS2, and DUOX2 and genes related to antimicrobial response and immunoregulation. LND cells, confirmed by in-situ RNA and protein imaging, are rare in non-IBD controls but expand in active CD, and actively interact with immune cells and specifically express IBD/CD susceptibility genes, suggesting a possible function in CD immunopathogenesis. Furthermore, we discover early and late LND subpopulations with different origins and developmental potential. A higher ratio of late-to-early LND cells correlates with better response to anti-TNF treatment. Our findings thus suggest a potential pathogenic role for LND cells in both Crohn’s ileitis and colitis.

Abstract Sarcopenia is a complex age-associated syndrome of progressive loss of muscle mass and strength. Although this condition is influenced by many factors, age-related changes in immune function including immune cell dynamics, and chronic inflammation contribute to its progression. The complex interplay between the immune system, gut-muscle axis, and autophagy further underscores their important roles in sarcopenia pathogenesis. Immunomodulation has emerged as a promising strategy to counteract sarcopenia. Traditional management approaches to treat sarcopenia including physical exercise and nutritional supplementation, and the emerging technologies of biophysical stimulation demonstrated the importance of immunomodulation and regulation of macrophages and T cells and reduction of chronic inflammation. Treatments to alleviate low-grade inflammation in older adults by modulating gut microbial composition and diversity further combat sarcopenia. Furthermore, some pharmacological interventions, nano-medicine, and cell therapies targeting muscle, gut microbiota, or autophagy present additional avenues for immunomodulation in sarcopenia. This narrative review explores the immunological underpinnings of sarcopenia, elucidating the relationship between the immune system and muscle during ageing. Additionally, the review discusses new areas such as the gut-muscle axis and autophagy, which bridge immune system function and muscle health. Insights into current and potential approaches for sarcopenia management through modulation of the immune system are provided, along with suggestions for future research directions and therapeutic strategies. We aim to guide further investigation into clinical immunological biomarkers and identify indicators for sarcopenia diagnosis and potential treatment targets to combat this condition. We also aim to draw attention to the importance of considering immunomodulation in the clinical management of sarcopenia.

Abstract In the realm of marine environmental engineering, the swift and accurate detection of underwater targets is of considerable significance. Recently, methods based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) have been applied to enhance the detection of such targets. However, deep neural networks usually require a large number of parameters, resulting in slow processing speed. Meanwhile, existing methods present challenges in accurate detection when facing small and densely arranged underwater targets. To address these issues, we propose a new neural network model, YOLOv8-LA, for improving the detection performance of underwater targets. First, we design a Lightweight Efficient Partial Convolution (LEPC) module to optimize spatial feature extraction by selectively processing input channels to improve efficiency and significantly reduce redundant computation and storage requirements. Second, we developed the AP-FasterNet architecture for small targets that are commonly found in underwater datasets. By integrating depth-separable convolutions with different expansion rates into FasterNet, AP-FasterNet enhances the model’s ability to capture detailed features of small targets. Finally, we integrate the lightweight and efficient content-aware reorganization (CARAFE) up-sampling operation into YOLOv8 to enhance the model performance by aggregating contextual information over a large perceptual field and mitigating information loss during up-sampling.Evaluation results on the URPC2021 dataset show that the YOLOv8-LA model achieves 84.7% mean accuracy (mAP) on a single Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 and operates at 189.3 frames per second (FPS), demonstrating that it outperforms existing state-of-the-art methods in terms of performance. This result demonstrates the model’s ability to ensure high detection accuracy while maintaining real-time processing capabilities.

The sustainable development of textiles has been a notable concern for the textile industry and society in recent years. From green textiles and circular textiles to cultural textiles, academia has conducted many explorations. The problem of the connection between the cultural needs of increasingly educated consumers and the development of textiles has become increasingly prominent, which has also triggered many new social problems. This study aims to explore how culture promotes sustainability in textiles and can meet consumer demands. This study uses scientometric methods to conduct a thematic analysis of cultural factors in the development of textiles. From 2013 to 2023, the Web of Science and Scopus databases included a total of 306 articles related to the cultural factors in textiles. The results of this study are as follows: 40 main research keyword clusters appeared in the knowledge base, 6 research themes were identified, and a conceptual framework of culture in the development of textiles was constructed. At the same time, this study provides suggestions on how to better establish communication between textiles and culture. The results of this study will help textile practitioners better understand the current status, hot spots, and research trends of cultural sustainability in the textile industry while establishing closer connections with consumers.

Background: The interaction between muscle and bone is shown to be clinically important but the underlying mechanisms are largely unknown. The canonical Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway is reported to be involved in muscle-bone crosstalk, but its detailed function remains unclear. This systematic review aims to investigate and elucidate the role of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathways in muscle-bone crosstalk. Methods: We conducted a literature search on the Web of Science, PubMed, EBSCO and Embase with keywords “Wnt*”, “bone*” and “muscle*”. A systematic review was completed according to the guideline of preferred reporting items of systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA). Data synthesis included species (human, animal or cell type used), treatments involved, outcome measures and key findings with respect to Wnts. Results: Seventeen papers were published from 2007 to 2021 and were extracted from a total of 1529 search results in the databases of Web of Science (468 papers), PubMed (457 papers), EBSCO (371) and Embase (233). 12 Wnt family members were investigated in the papers, including Wnt1, Wnt2, Wnt2b, Wnt3a, Wnt4, Wnt5a, Wnt8a, Wnt8b, Wnt9a, Wnt10a, Wnt10b and Wnt16. Many studies showed that muscles were able to increase or decrease osteogenesis of bone, while bone increased myogenesis of muscle through Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathways. Wnt3a, Wnt4 and Wnt10b were shown to play important roles in the crosstalk between muscle and bone. Conclusions: Wnt3a, Wnt4 and Wnt10b are found to play important mediatory roles in muscle-bone crosstalk. The role of Wnt4 was mostly found to regulate muscle from the bone side. Whilst the role of Wnt10b during muscle ageing was proposed, current evidence is insufficient to clarify the specific role of Wnt/β-catenin signaling in the interplay between sarcopenia and osteoporosis. More future studies are required to investigate the exact regulatory roles of Wnts in muscle-bone crosstalk in musculoskeletal disease models such as sarcopenia and osteoporosis. Translational potential of this article: The systematic review provides an extensive overview to reveal the roles of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathways in muscle-bone crosstalk. These results provide novel research directions to further understand the underlying mechanism of sarcopenia, osteoporosis, and their crosstalk, finally helping the future development of new therapeutic interventions.

Accurate diagnosis of grape leaf diseases is critical in agricultural production, yet existing detection techniques face challenges in achieving model lightweighting while ensuring high accuracy. In this study, a real-time, end-to-end, lightweight grape leaf disease detection model, MHDI-DETR, based on an improved RT-DETR architecture, is presented to address these challenges. The original residual backbone network was improved using the MobileNetv4 network, significantly reducing the model’s computational requirements and complexity. Additionally, a lightSFPN feature fusion structure is presented, combining the Hierarchical Scale Feature Pyramid Network with the Dilated Reparam Block structure design from the UniRepLKNet network. This structure is designed to overcome the challenges of capturing complex high-level and subtle low-level features, and it uses Efficient Local Attention to focus more efficiently on regions of interest, thereby enhancing the model’s ability to detect complex targets while improving accuracy and inference speed. Finally, the integration of GIou and Focaler-IoU into Focaler-GIoU enhances detection accuracy and convergence speed for small targets by focusing more effectively on both simple and difficult samples. The findings from the experiments suggest that The MHDI-DETR model results in a 56% decrease in parameters and a 49% reduction in floating-point operations, respectively, compared with the RT-DETR model, in terms of accuracy, the model achieved precision rates of 96.9%, 92.6%, and 72.5% for accuracy, mAP50, and mAP50:95, respectively. Compared with the RT-DETR model, these represent improvements of 1.9%, 1.2%, and 1.2%. Overall, the MHDI-DETR model surpasses the RT-DETR and other mainstream detection models in both detection accuracy and degree of lightness, achieving dual optimization in efficiency and accuracy, and providing an efficient technical solution for automated agricultural disease management.

As grid-connected renewable energy and HVDC transmission grow in China, maintaining stable power grid operation is essential to avert system collapse caused by insufficient reserves of dynamic reactive power. Network topology and dynamic reactive power compensation device settings influence the transient voltage stability. Synchronous condenser (SC) serves as a dynamic reactive power source in modern energy AC/DC grids. However, the traditional SC excitation control strategy causes significant voltage overshoot during the voltage recovery process of the grid. This paper proposes a proportion-integral–differential-acceleration (PIDA) excitation controller which considers grid voltage feedforward for SC to improve FV type excitation control strategy to suppress transient voltage fluctuations, and the fruit fly optimization algorithm (FOA) is employed to tune the PIDA parameters. To verify the control effect, an improved IEEE14-node AC/DC hybrid system is proposed by using the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation platform, and variations in SC excitation voltage, DC transmission active power, reactive power output of SC (Qsc), and AC bus voltage on the inverter side are compared and analyzed in three different excitation control strategies under three fault conditions. Simulation results show that the improved SC excitation control strategy proposed can not only suppress system bus voltage drop effectively and reduce the risk of DC commutation failure, but also reduce voltage overshoot by 6 % and voltage drop by 10 % compared with those of traditional excitation control strategies of SC, and make the system recover faster and effectively improve the power system voltage level and voltage stability.

Abstract Biomass plays a crucial role in the low‐carbon energy transition, with a projected contribution of 18.7% to the global energy supply by 2050. However, biofuel combustion has been a notable source of toxic mercury emissions, yet the future trends and distribution of the emissions remain inadequately understood. Here, we projected biofuel combustion under various Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) using the Global Change Assessment Model and assessed associated mercury emissions in cooking, heating, and power generation over 2020–2050, aligning with the carbon neutrality target. Our analysis reveals that global biofuel mercury emissions are projected to be 9.90–18.40 tons by 2050, compared to the annual emissions of 13.89 tons in 2020. Notably, a substantial increase in emissions from power generation is expected, escalating from 0.57 tons in 2020 to 4.69–8.27 tons by 2050, with China and Southeast Asia emerging as primary contributors. Conversely, mercury emissions from cooking and heating are expected to decrease from 13.32 tons in 2020 to 4.40–11.53 tons by 2050, except in Africa under SSP2, where the emissions may increase from 5.91 to 6.69 tons. Our findings provide a scientific basis for policies aimed at achieving carbon neutrality targets while adhering to the Minamata Convention on Mercury.

Understanding the lagged correlations between regional precipitation and large scale climate indicators (LCI) is crucial for water management and drought risk assessment. Copula functions are commonly used to quantify the relationship between precipitation and these factors. However, existing studies often neglect monsoon inland areas and lack quantification of the lagged correlations of precipitation at the monthly scale. To address these limitations, this study constructed a 3-dimensional vine copula-based model to assess the impact of large scale climatic change on regional precipitation. The analysis focused on the Hengshao Drought Corridor (HDC), the driest region in Hunan Province, China. The results indicate that precipitation in this region is influenced primarily by the Pacific Ocean’s circulation pattern, particularly the Niño1 + 2 and Niño3 indices, with a 2 ∼ 3 month lag. The R-Vine Copula provided the best fit when identifying lagged correlations, but due to its fitting center, it did not perform as well as the C-Vine Copula in generating stochastic simulated precipitation. The study revealed that the HDC receives more precipitation when the Niño1 + 2 and Niño3 are asynchronous, but less precipitation when they are synchronous, making the area more susceptible to drought events. These findings have implications for the HDC and other monsoon inland regions worldwide, providing insights to cope with climate extremes and develop appropriate strategies.

Abstract Composed of obesity and lipid parameters, the cardiometabolic index (CMI) has emerged as a novel diagnostic tool. Originally developed for diabetes diagnosis, its application has expanded to identifying patients with cardiovascular diseases, such as atherosclerosis and hypertension. However, the relationship between CMI and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and liver fibrosis in the US population remains unclear. This cross-sectional study analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning 2017–2020, involving 2996 participants aged 20 years or older. Vibration controlled transient elastography using a FibroScan® system (model 502, V2 Touch) with controlled attenuation parameter measurements identified NAFLD at a threshold of ≥ 274 dB/m, while liver stiffness measurement (LSM) results (median, ≥ 8.2 kPa) indicated fibrosis. A multifactorial logistic regression model explored the relationship between CMI and NAFLD and fibrosis. The effectiveness of CMI in detecting NAFLD and liver fibrosis was assessed through receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. Controlling for potential confounders, CMI showed a significant positive association with NAFLD (adjusted OR = 1.44, 95% CI 1.44–1.45) and liver fibrosis (adjusted OR = 1.84, 95% CI 1.84–1.85). The Areas Under the Curve for predicting NAFLD and fibrosis were 0.762 (95% CI 0.745 ~ 0.779) and 0.664(95% CI 0.633 ~ 0.696), respectively, with optimal cut-off values of 0.462 and 0.527. There is a positive correlation between CMI and NAFLD and fibrosis, which is a suitable and simple predictor of NAFLD and fibrosis.

Abstract It is important to ensure the nutritional quality and safe production of rice. Here, plot experiments were used to analyze the effects of three soil amendments—10 t ha−1 of biochar (BC), 1.5 t ha−1 of lime (LM), and 2.25 t ha−1 of silicon–calcium fertilizer (SC)—on the soil characteristics, rice yield and quality of double-cropping rice grown in mildly cadmium-polluted paddy fields. Compared with the control treatment (CK), the BC and SC treatments significantly improved rice processing, appearance and nutritional quality, but reduced cooking quality. All three soil amendments significantly reduced cadmium (Cd) content in brown rice. Soil amendments could significantly increase soil pH and reduce soil available Cd content. The application of the BC and SC treatments increased the content of each nutrient index in the soil (SOM, NN, AP, AK). Correlation analysis showed that the improvement in rice processing, appearance, and nutritional quality was mainly affected by the comprehensive effects of soil SOM, NN, AP and AK; the hygiene quality was mainly affected by soil pH and available Cd. In terms of benefit analysis combined with cost, the SC treatment had the highest benefit effect. Taken together, in mildly cadmium-polluted paddy fields, the application of silicon–calcium fertilizer improved the soil quality, thereby increased the yield and quality of rice, and had the best effect on increasing income.

Abstract Backgrounds Microfibril-associated protein 2 (MFAP2) is a protein presenting in the extracellular matrix that governs the activity of microfibrils through its interaction with fibrillin. While the involvement of MFAP2 in metabolic disorders has been documented, its expression and prognostic significance in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) remain unexplored. Methods We acquired datasets pertaining to breast cancer (BC) from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) databases. Next, a Venn diagram was used to identify the differentially expressed genes (DEGs). The DEGs were used to perform Gene Ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), protein–protein interaction (PPI), immune and survival analysis. The expressions of MFAP2, PD-1 and PD-L1 were examined by immunohistochemistry and western blot and their relationship with clinical pathological parameters were analyzed by clinical specimen samples from patients with TNBC. Tumor Immune Estimation Resource (TIMER, https://cistrome.shinyapps.io/timer/ ) was adopted to calculate the immune infiltration level of TNBC. The link between gene expression and tumor mutational burden (TMB) was described using Spearman’s correlation analysis. Results We identified 66 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) that were up-regulated. Among these DEGs, MFAP2 was found to be overexpressed in TNBC and was associated with a lower probability of survival. This finding was confirmed through the use of immunohistochemistry and western blot techniques. Additionally, MFAP2 was found to be related to various pathological parameters in TNBC patients. Mechanistically, gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) revealed that MFAP2 primarily influenced cellular biological behavior in terms of epithelial mesenchymal transition, glycolysis, and apical junction. Notably, MFAP2 expression was positively correlated with the abundance of macrophages, while a negative correlation was observed with the abundance of B cells, CD4 + T cells, CD8 + T cells, neutrophils and dendritic cells through immune analysis. Furthermore, it was observed that MFAP2 displayed a negative correlation not only with tumor mutational burden (TMB), a recognized biomarker for PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy, but also with PD-L1 in samples of TNBC. Conclusion MFAP2 may be an important prognostic biomarker for TNBC, as well as a viable target for immunotherapy in this disease.

Abstract Purpose As a minimally invasive procedure, laser hemorrhoidoplasty (LHP) can not only relieve the symptoms of hemorrhoids, but also protect the anal cushion structure. This study aimed to investigate the clinical efficacy of LHP in the treatment of grade II hemorrhoids. Methods A total of 70 patients with grade II hemorrhoids were randomly assigned to receive LHP or Rubber Band Ligation (RBL) (n = 35 per group) in 2019 from a single center. The postoperative pain, bleeding, feeling of anal distension(local falling, swelling, foreign body sensation, stool) and postoperative recurrence rate were compared between the two groups. Results The postoperative pain, bleeding, and feeling of anal distension in the LHP group were improved significantly as compared with the RBL group within 2 weeks after surgery (P 0.05). The neuromuscular junction (NMJ) is a specialized chemical synapse that converts neural impulses into muscle action. Age-associated NMJ degeneration, which involves nerve terminal and postsynaptic decline, denervation, and loss of motor units, significantly contributes to muscle weakness and dysfunction. Although physical training has been shown to make substantial modifications in NMJ of both young and aged animals, the results are often influenced by methodological variables in existing studies. Moreover, there is still lack of strong consensus on the specific effects of exercise on improving the morphology and function of the ageing NMJ. Consequently, the purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review to elucidate the effects of exercise training on NMJ compartments in the elderly.We conducted a systematic review using PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases, employing relevant keywords. Two independent reviewers selected studies that detailed NMJ changes during exercise in ageing, written in English, and available in full text.In total, 20 papers were included. We examined the altered adaptation of the NMJ to exercise, focusing on presynaptic and postsynaptic structures and myofibers in older animals or humans. Our findings indicated that aged NMJs exhibited different adaptive responses to physical exercise compared to younger counterparts. Endurance training, compared with resistance and voluntary exercise regimens, was found to have a more pronounced effect on NMJ structural remodeling, particularly in fast twitch muscle fibers. Physical exercise was observed to promote the formation and maintenance of acetylcholine receptor (AChR) clusters by increasing the recombinant docking protein 7 (Dok7) expression and stabilizing Agrin and lipoprotein receptor-related protein 4 (LRP4). These insights suggest that research on exercise-related therapies could potentially attenuate the progression of neuromuscular degeneration.Translational potential of this article: This systematic review provides a detailed overview of the effects of different types of physical exercise on improving NMJ in the elderly, providing scientific support for the timely intervention of muscle degeneration in the elderly by physical exercise, and providing help for the development of new therapeutic interventions in the future.

Abstract Resilient motion planning and control, without prior knowledge of disturbances, are crucial to ensure the safe and robust flight of quadrotors. The development of a motion planning and control architecture for quadrotors, considering both internal and external disturbances (i.e., motor damages and suspended payloads), is addressed. Firstly, the authors introduce the use of exponential functions to formulate trajectory planning. This choice is driven by its ability to predict thrust responses with minimal computational overhead. Additionally, a reachability analysis is incorporated for error dynamics resulting from multiple disturbances. This analysis sits at the interface between the planner and controller, contributing to the generation of more robust and safe spatial–temporal trajectories. Lastly, the authors employ a cascade controller, with the assistance of internal and external loop observers, to further enhance resilience and compensate the disturbances. The authors’ benchmark experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy in enhancing flight safety, particularly when confronted with motor damages and payload disturbances.

ABSTRACT: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a class of endogenous non-coding RNAs that have been implicated in mediating granulosa cell (GC) proliferation and apoptosis. CircRAB11A was found to have a significantly higher expression in normal follicles compared to atrophic follicles. In this study, we determined that the knockdown of circRAB11A resulted in the inhibition of proliferation and promotion of apoptosis in GCs of chicken. Moreover, circRAB11A was found to act as a sponge for miR-24-5p, both member RAS oncogene family (RAB11A) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) were revealed to be targets of miR-24-5p through a dual-luciferase reporter assay. RAB11A or EGFR promoted proliferation and suppressed apoptosis in GCs through the phosphatidylinositol-kinase (PI3K)/AKT or extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK)1/2 pathway. These findings suggest that circRAB11A may function as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) by targeting the miR-24-5p/RAB11A and miR-24-5p/EGFR axes and activating the ERK1/2 and PI3K/AKT pathways, offering a potential avenue for exploring the mechanism of follicle development.

Abstract Using data from the 2017 China Migrants Dynamics Survey, this study employs generalized structural equation modeling to examine the effects of migrants' places of origin and socioeconomic status on their destination choice and access to homeownership in the destination city. The analyses reveal significant disparities in access to homeownership among migrants from different places of origin. Furthermore, the position of the destination city in the urban hierarchy not only has a direct impact on migrants' access to homeownership but also plays an important mediating role. This study highlights the spatial foundations of housing inequality and builds an analytical framework that links spatial mobility with social mobility. Our findings have significant implications for housing policies and practices aimed at improving the housing conditions of new-generation migrants.

Microencapsulated essential oils (MEO)have been used as antibiotic alternatives that can be applied to alleviate diarrhea in weaning piglet. We examined a large group of weaned piglets and incorporated essential oil containing thymol (2%), carvacrol (5%) and cinnamaldehyde (3%) in the feed of weaned piglets on an intensive production farm. The piglets were divided into four groups; Control (no additions) and chlortetracycline (Chl), essential oil (EO) and microencapsulated essential oil (MEO) were fed ad libitum over a 28-day trial period. We found MEO significantly reduced the incidence of diarrhea in the piglets that was also accompanied by increased average daily weight gains from days 14–28 (p 0.05). Metagenomic analysis indicated that MEO impacted DNA expression, virulence factors, antioxidant activity and antimicrobial activity. Metabolomic analysis of the intestinal content also indicated that MEO impacted tyrosine metabolism and primary bile acid biosynthesis suggesting improved intestinal health and nutrient absorption. This study paves the way for further research into the development and optimization of MEO-based interventions aimed at improving piglet health and performance while also providing a reference for reducing reliance on antibiotics in animal agriculture.

Background: Cervicocerebral CT angiography (CTA) using the bolus tracking technique has been widely used for the assessment of cerebrovascular diseases. Regions of interest (ROI) can be placed in the descending aorta, ascending aorta, and the aortic arch. However, no study has compared the arteries and veins display when when the region of interest (ROI) is placed at different sites. In this study, we showed the impact of ROI positions on the image quality of cervicocerebral CTA. Methods: Two hundred and seventy patients who underwent cervicocerebral CTA with bolus tracking technique were randomly divided into three groups based on the position of the ROI placement: ascending aorta (Group 1, n = 90), aortic arch (Group 2, n = 90), and descending aorta (Group 3, n = 90). The scanning parameters and contrast agent injection protocols were consistent across all groups. Three observers independently assessed the objective image quality, while two observers jointly assessed the subjective image quality using a grade scale: poor (grade 1), average (grade 2), good (grade 3), and excellent (grade 4). The differences in intravascular CT values, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR), AVCR (arterial venous contrast ratio), and subjective image quality scores were compared among the three groups. Abstract Achieving low-carbon development of the cement industry in the developing countries is fundamental to global emissions abatement, considering the local construction industry’s rapid growth. However, there is currently a lack of systematic and accurate accounting and projection of cement emissions in developing countries, which are characterized with lower basic economic country condition. Here, we provide bottom-up quantifications of emissions from global cement production and reveal a regional shift in the main contributors to global cement CO2 emissions. The study further explores cement emissions over 2020-2050 that correspond to different housing and infrastructure conditions and emissions mitigation options for all developing countries except China. We find that cement emissions in developing countries except China will reach 1.4-3.8 Gt in 2050 (depending on different industrialization trajectories), compared to their annual emissions of 0.7 Gt in 2018. The optimal combination of low-carbon measures could contribute to reducing annual emissions by around 65% in 2050 and cumulative emissions by around 48% over 2020-2050. The efficient technological paths towards a low carbon future of cement industry vary among the countries and infrastructure scenarios. Our results are essential to understanding future emissions patterns of the cement industry in the developing countries and can inform policies in the cement sector that contribute to meeting the climate targets set out in the Paris Agreement.

Abstract The interplay of water resources with social-economy spheres involves a reciprocal feedback mechanism. With the acceleration of the construction process of modernized water networks in Hunan Province, investigating the adaptation status of the "Water-Social-Economy " composite system (WSE) is crucial for promoting sustainability. This study clarifies the connotation of the adaptability of WSE, and the quantitative analyses were conducted through coupling coordinative degree, harmonious development capacity, and the evolution of development lag types among the 14 cities of Hunan Province from 2005 to 2020. The results show that: (1) The development index of the water resources subsystem (WRS) showed a “downward-fluctuation-upward” trend, while the development index of the social-economy subsystem (SES) showed signs of great improvement, the former didn’t catch up with the latter. (2) The coupling coordination degree of WSE developed well, and reached the coordinative development stage by 2020, but the unbalanced spatial pattern between north to south and east to west still exists and is further intensified. (3) The development ability of WSE improved while the harmony ability reduced, and the development rate of WRS and SES hasn’t achieved dynamic synchronization. Finally, the policies and suggestions to improve the adaptability are put forward, which is of instructive significance for the sustainable development of water suitability.

The liver is a vital organ in chickens that performs a number of crucial physiological functions, including the storage of hepatic glycogen, protein synthesis, detoxification, and deoxidation. The growth and metabolism of the liver are complex processes influenced by factors such as environment, diet, and genetics. MicroRNAs (miRNAs), as post-transcriptional regulatory molecules, play a role in various biological processes. There is growing evidence that miR-27b-5p plays a key role in the regulation of liver development and metabolism in various species. However, its role in chicken livers has yet to be determined. In our experiment, we found that chickens with fatty livers had significantly higher levels of serum triglyceride (TG) and total cholesterol (TC) compared to the normal chickens, while the control group had significantly higher levels of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and serum hormones. Further research showed that the mRNA of miR-27b-5p was highly expressed in fatty livers. By exploring the function of miR-27b-5p in chicken livers, we discovered that it promotes lipogenesis, oxidative stress, and inflammatory responses, leading to hepatocyte apoptosis. Our study also established the mechanism by which miR-27b-5p interacts with its target gene, and found that miR-27b-5p targets insulin receptor substrate 2 (IRS2) and modulates the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. Additionally, our investigation of IRS2 in chicken hepatocytes revealed that knocking down IRS2 has the same effects as overexpressing miR-27b-5p. In conclusion, our study revealed that miR-27b-5p directly binds to IRS2, inhibiting the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway and causing steatosis, oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis in chicken liver.

In the realm of textiles, numerous brands are endeavouring to embrace sustainable development and prioritize consumer orientation. Nevertheless, during the actual sales process, sustainability is frequently communicated to consumers through the medium of sustainable fabrics, often failing to elicit profound resonance among them. This study uses scientometry to conduct a comprehensive and quantitative analysis of the current status of the textile industry based on consumers, aiming to explore the current situation and development direction between consumers and the sustainable behaviour of the textile industry. From 2014 to 2023, the Scopus database included 1010 articles related to the clothing field, based on user-oriented research. The analysis results of this study are as follows: 50 research keywords appear in the knowledge base; 8 current research areas; 10 research hotspots; 10 important knowledge references in this field; Practitioners have a better understanding of the current status and trends of sustainable development in the clothing field under user guidance. The research results provide suggestions for the sustainable development of the textile industry, promote effective communication between the textile industry and consumers on a sustainable level, and help improve the consumer stickiness and sustainable development of the textile industry.
