14. Variedades de cana-de-açúcar submetidas à irrigação suplementar no cerrado goiano

Abstract

O Estado de Goiás é o segundo maior produtor de cana-de-açúcar do Brasil. Entretanto, ainda apresenta baixa produtividade, devido principalmente à falta de variedades adaptadas a esta região e ao déficit hídrico típico. Assim, objetivou-se avaliar o desempenho de dezesseis variedades de cana-de-açúcar submetidas à irrigação suplementar no Cerrado. O experimento foi conduzido em Goianésia-GO, em um Latossolo Vermelho-Amarelo Distrófico, de textura argilosa de abril de 2011 a maio de 2012. O delineamento foi em blocos casualizados (Bifatorial 16x5), com 16 tratamentos (variedades): CTC2, CTC4, CTC9, CTC11, CTC15, CTC18, IAC87-3396, IAC91-1099, IACSP94-3046, IACSP94-2094, IACSP94-2101, IACSP95-5000, RB857515, RB92579, RB966928 e SP86-0042; e cinco tempos de avaliação: 113; 145; 174; 203 e 285 dias após o plantio (DAP), com quatro repetições. A irrigação suplementar, por aspersão, correspondeu a uma reposição de 50% da ETc. Os resultados, de cana- planta, apresentaram diferenças significativas entre as variedades avaliadas, destacando-se as variedades CTC9, CTC11, IAC87-3396, IAC91-1099 e SP86-0042, em termos de produtividade e de rendimento industrial. Assim, estas variedades podem ser recomendadas para o cultivo no Cerrado, em regime de irrigação suplementar. The state of Goias is the second largest producer of sugar cane in Brazil. However, it still has low productivity, mainly due to the lack of varieties adapted to the region and the typical water deficit. The experiment aimed to evaluate the performance of sixteen sugarcane varieties submitted to supplementary irrigation in the "Cerrado" (Brazilian Savanna).The experiment was carried out in Goianesia-GO (Brazil), in a Red yellow dystrophic latosol (Oxisol), from April 2011 to May 2012. Randomized blocks design was used, with bifatorials treatments, in sixteen sugar cane varieties: CTC2, CTC4, CTC9, CTC11, CTC15, CTC18, IAC87-3396, IAC91-1099, IACSP94-3046, IACSP94-2094, IACSP94-2101, IACSP95-5000, RB857515, RB92579, RB966928 and SP86-0042; and five evaluation time: 113, 145, 174, 203 and 285 days after plantation (DAP). The supplementary irrigation was of 50% water requirement using a sprinkler system. Varieties performance was evaluated through: tillering, growth, productivity and performance of industrial plants. The results showed significant differences between the varieties. The best results were obtained for varieties CTC9, CTC11, IAC87-3396, IAC91-1099 and SP86-0042, to productivity and industrial performance, which can be recommended in savannah cultivation with supplementary irrigation (50%).

Abstract

Using field notes drawn from participative research in the context of his home life in Hapao, Ifugao and Baguio City, Benguet, as well as information gathered through interviews with his family, confidantes, and mentees, the article revaluates the oeuvre of pioneering independent filmmaker, Kidlat Tahimik. It is written self-reflexively, approximating the critic's process of understanding Kidlat's work through the lenses of a personal encounter. It critiques Kidlat's cinema, with special focus on Why is Yellow the Middle of the Rainbow? (1994), and reads it as his determination to author himself as "native" and "Third World" filmmaker, the same determination that animates the "independence" of his film practice. Abstract

The Marcosian signifier in Manila by Night has been inescapably registered in the production, distribution, and exhibition of the film and in the film text itself. The paper revisits these evaluations of the film by using Edward Soja's broader notion of "thirdspace." It rereads Manila by Night as Bernal's concept of the city which approximates the lived dimension of urban spaces vis-à-vis the "concept city" of the Marcoses. Such a revaluation of Manila by Night as thirdspace 1) locates the film at the center of wider spatio-temporal interrelationship -- from "global" to "national" to "cinematic" space, and 2) salvages the epistemological concerns of Bernal, which previous critiques of Manila by Night tended to eclipse. Abstract

This article reports that the issuance in July of the much-anticipated request for proposal (RFP) for the independent water and power project at Shouaiba in western Saudi Arabia, is creating a new template for project financing as the move toward privatization of power and water production in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia begins in earnest. At stake under the RFP is a 60% interest in the project company that will develop, own and operate the oil-fired plant. Saudi Arabia's push for privatization is being driven by demographic and economic realities in the Kingdom, as its burgeoning population and expanding economy demands a rapid increase in power and water production. In response to this demand, the government appears to be acting purposefully to provide the necessary framework and credit support to attract private investment. The Shouaiba project will produce an estimated 650 to 900MW of power and 194 million gallons of desalinated water a day, all of which will be sold to the Water & Electricity Co., an entity created by two government corporations, Saudi Electricity Co. and Saline Water Conversion Corp.
