The study aimed to adapt and evaluate a scale to measure COVID-19-CED in COVID-19 survivors. A sample of 330 COVID-19 survivors filled out the COVID-19 Perceived Discrimination Scale (C-19-PDS). C-19-PDS was adapted from the Tuberculosis Perceived Discrimination Scale (11 items). Confirmatory factor analysis showed poor goodness-of-fit indicators. However, the 5-item version of the C-19-PDS showed better goodness-of-fit indicators, high internal consistency, and non-gender DIF. This instrument is recommended to evaluate COVID-19-CED in Colombian and other Spanish-speaking populations.

The purpose of this study is to identify the prevalence and factors associated with weapon carrying in Colombian high-school students. A cross-sectional study was designed to analyze this phenomenon among students aged between 13 and 17 years. A sample of 1462 students participated, 18.46% of which reported having planned suicide, 56.16% reported having started fighting, 22.57% alcohol drinking, 11.63% cannabis smoking, and 20.45% carrying weapons at school. The phenomenon was later associated with the male gender (odds ratio [OR] = 3.49, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.59-4.70), alcohol drinking (OR = 2.67, 95% CI: 1.70-4.20), cannabis smoking (OR = 2.39, 95% CI: 1.55-3.70), use of other substances (OR = 2.52, 95% CI: 1.44-4.44), cigarette smoking (OR = 1.83, 95% CI: 1.16-2.88), starting fighting (OR = 2.30, 95% CI: 1.68-3.16), and suicide planning (OR = 2.05, 95% CI: 1.46-2.90). More proximate situational and contextual factors associated with love behavior in adolescents need to be studied.

The brief Francis scale of attitude towards Christianity (Francis-4) psychometric performance in Mexico is unknown. The objective was to evaluate the dimensionality, homogeneity, gender differential item functioning (DIF), and nomological validity of Francis-4. 1,108 university students between 18 and 60 years of age were evaluated; 80.4% were women (n = 891). CFA was performed with the following fit indicators: chi-square, RMSEA, CFI, TLI, and McDonald's omega were calculated. For nomological validity, the mean and standard deviation according to gender were compared with Student's t-test. Gender DIF was quantified with Kendall's tau-b. The CFA revealed the following goodness-of-fit coefficients: chi-square = 25.45, df = 2, p = 0.001, RMSEA = 0.10, 90% CI 0.07-0.14, CFI = 0.99, TLI = 0.99, and SRMR = 0.01. Cronbach's alpha of 0.97 and McDonald's omega were 0.97. Scores were significantly higher in women than in men (M = 8.9, SD = 5.4 versus M = 7.6, t = 3.15, p = 0.002). Kendall's tau ranged from 0.07 to 0.09 indicating absence of gender DIF. Francis-4 is a unidimensional instrument with nomological validity, high internal consistency, and absence of gender DIF. It is recommended to evaluate its performance in other populations.

Literature on the association between ageism and falling among older adults is limited. Using data from the nationwide cross-sectional SABE (Salud, Bienestar y Envejecimiento) Colombia Survey in 2015 with 18,875 participants aged ≥60 years living in the communities, the study aims to evaluate the association between perceived ageism within the family, neighborhood, health services, and public services, and recurrent falling. Participants had a mean age of 69.2 ± 7.1; 56.1% were female. Recurrent falling prevalence was 15%, and experiencing any ageism was 10%. Multivariable logistic regression analyses showed higher odds of recurrent falling for any ageism (OR = 1.81, 95% CI 1.61–2.02, p <.0001). High depressive symptoms mediated 10.1% of the association between any ageism and recurrent falling, followed by low instrumental activities of daily living (9.7%) and multimorbidity (9.3%). Current findings open new areas of gerontological research by expanding the risk factors for falling among older adults to include ageism perceptions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To establish the validity of the BHS-20, a sample of 2064 adolescent students aged 14 and 17 years (M = 15.61, SD = 1.05) were invited to participate in the research. Cronbach's alpha (α) and McDonald's omega (ω) were computed to evaluate the internal consistency. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to test the dimensionality of the BHS-20. The Spearman correlation (r s ) with depressive symptoms and risk of suicide scores of the Plutchik Suicide Risk Scale were computed to explore the nomological validity. The BHS-20 showed a high internal consistency (α =.81, ω =.93), an adequate one-dimensional structure with an excellent adjustment [χ2 S-B = 341, df = 170, p <.01, Comparative Fit Index =.99, RMSEA =.03] and acceptable nomological validity with depressive symptoms (r s =.47, p <.01) and scores for suicide risk (r s =.33, p <.01). The current pandemic of Severe Acute Syndrome (SAR-CoV-2) is a public health problem with implications for mental health. The study aimed to determine the prevalence of suicide risk and its association with fatalism and emotional regulation during SARS-CoV-2 in Colombia's adult population. A cross-sectional study was designed, an online format was used, which evaluated sociodemographic variables, CES-D-SI, the Fatalism Questionnaire against COVID-19, and the Emotional Regulation Scale. 435 Colombian adults participated, aged between 18 and 79 years. A prevalence of suicide risk was found in 5.3%, and it was associated with the interaction between living in rural area and less education (OR = 5.60, 95%CI 1.28–24.53), emotional dysregulation (OR = 3.54, 95%CI 1.77–7.09), and fatalistic beliefs (OR = 3.09, 95%CI 1.53–6.27). 5.3% of the population presented an elevated suicide risk. It was associated with less education, rural areas, fatalistic beliefs, and emotional dysregulation in the Colombian population during mandatory confinement due to SAR-CoV-2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this study was to identify the association of discrimination experiences (DE) with post-traumatic stress, depression, and high suicidal risk among high-school adolescents of the Caribbean region of Colombia. An observational, crosssectional analytical study was designed. A total of 1,462 tenth and eleventh grade students participated, who answered a single item from the Youth Victimization Questionnaire (DE due to ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or other condition), the Brief Davidson Scale (Post-Traumatic Stress), the WHO-5 Questionnaire (depression) and the scale of the Center for Epidemiological Studies (suicide risk). 70.93% of the adolescents were between 16 and 17 years, and 60.33 % were female. 13.41% of adolescents had been exposed to DE. 19.33% scored for post-traumatic stress, 7.04% for depression and 13.27% for high suicidal risk. DE were associated with post-traumatic stress (OR=3.29, 95%CI 2.36-4.59), depression (OR=2.35, 95%CI 1.45-3.80) and high suicidal risk (OR=2.09, 95%CI 1.43-3.06). It is concluded that DE are a risk factor for post-traumatic stress, depression, and suicide. It is important to study the role of DE on internalized and externalized problems according to the differential condition of diverse groups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
