Early phylogenetic analysis of Pythium insidiosum, the etiologic agent of pythiosis in mammals, showed the presence of a complex comprising three monophyletic clusters. Two included isolates recovered from cases of pythiosis in the Americas (Cluster I) and Asia (Cluster II), whereas the third cluster included four diverged isolates three from humans in Thailand and the USA, and one isolate from a USA spectacled bear (Cluster III). Thereafter, several phylogenetic analyses confirmed the presence of at least three monophyletic clusters, with most isolates placed in clusters I and II. Recent phylogenetic analyses using isolates from environmental sources and from human cases in India, Spain, Thailand, and dogs in the USA, however, showed the presence of two monophyletic groups each holding two sub-clusters. These studies revealed that P. insidiosum possesses different phylogenetic patterns to that described by early investigators. In this study, phylogenetic, population genetic and protein MALDI-TOF analyses of the P. insidiosum isolates in our culture collection, as well as those available in the database, showed members in the proposed cluster III and IV are phylogenetically different from that in clusters I and II. Our analyses of the complex showed a novel group holding two sub-clusters the USA (Cluster III) and the other from different world regions (Cluster IV). The data showed the original P. insidiosum cluster III is a cryptic novel species, now identified as P. periculosum. The finding of a novel species within P. insidiosum complex has direct implications in the epidemiology, diagnosis, and management of pythiosis in mammalian hosts.

Ever since the uncultivated South American fungal pathogen Lacazia loboi was first described 90 years ago, its etiology and evolutionary traits have been at the center of endless controversies. This pathogen infects the skin of humans and as long believed, dolphin skin. However, recent DNA analyses of infected dolphins placed its DNA sequences within Paracoccidioides species. This came as a surprise and suggested the human and dolphin pathogens may be different species. In this study, population genetic analyses of DNA from four infected dolphins grouped this pathogen in a monophyletic cluster sister to P. americana and to the other Paracoccidioides species. Based on the results we have emended the taxonomy of the dolphin pathogen as Paracoccidioides cetii and P. loboi the one infecting human. Our data warn that phylogenetic analysis of available taxa without the inclusion of unusual members may provide incomplete information for the accurate classification of anomalous species.

Pythiosis is frequently reported in dogs and horses inhabiting tropical, subtropical and temperate areas of the USA, but the disease is rare in domestic cats. The clinical presentation of feline pythiosis includes subcutaneous masses without ulcerated tissue and involvement of the intestinal tract. Here in we report an eight-week-old female unvaccinated stray kitten with an unusual extensive circular ulcerated lesion on her left flank. The lesion did not respond favorably to administration of systemic antibiotics. Clinical specimens submitted for culture demonstrated submerged fungal-like flat colonies later identified as Pythium insidiosum, a finding also confirmed by histopathology, serology, and DNA sequencing and thus, treated with itraconazole. Since no improvement was observed, Pythium-immunotherapy was initiated. The cat responded to the latter approach and in less than 10 days, the lesion had contracted around the edges and was crusting off to reveal healthy granulation tissue. Twenty-three days after immunotherapy was initiated the original wound had shrunken significantly to a small scabbed area. However, the cat acutely developed tachypnea, lung and intestinal complications and due to her rapid deterioration, humane euthanasia was elected. Unfortunately, necropsy was not conducted. The clinical presentation reported here suggests large ulcerative cutaneous lesions caused by P. insidiosum can also occur in domestic cats. Despite reports of unsuccessful treatment results of feline pythiosis using Pythium-immunotherapy, this report suggests this approach might be helpful in similar feline cases. Ichthyophonus infection was first detected in Peruvian Oncorhynchus mykiss in 1986, but the occurrence of ichthyophonosis disease in the region is unknown. This study investigated the presence and distribution of Ichthyophonus sp. in Peruvian rainbow trout using traditional and DNA sequencing tools. Between 2007 and 2008, 205 rainbow trout from 13 hatcheries in the Mantaro river basin were examined for the presence of Ichthyophonus, and at that time only 3 farms were positive. This early study confirmed the presence of Ichthyophonus sp. in the Tranca Grande lagoon for the first time, at a prevalence of 50%. In 2012, examination of 240 trout from 24 fish farms in 2 Peruvian Departments found 9 infected farms. More recently, in 2018, Ichthyophonus sp. was found in Lake Titicaca, infecting a trout in the Ichu area (in the Department of Puno). Our molecular analysis of the infected trout showed that ichthyophonosis disease in the Peruvian trout was caused by Ichthyophonus sp. Clade C. The finding of this pathogen in Lake Titicaca should be an alert for nearby farms and entities dealing with fish of economic importance in the rivers of Peru.

Background: Granulomatous Lung Diseases (GLD) encompasses a wide range of infectious and non-infectious conditions characterized by chronic inflammatory response. However, different GLD may share similar imaging findings. In this context, the purpose of this study was to outline the etiological profile and their imaging features in patients with GLD who underwent lung biopsy. Methods: Patients with granulomatous lesions in lung biopsies and previous chest CT performed from 2014 to 2017 at our institution had imaging data reviewed by three blinded radiologists. The imaging features were analyzed according to the Fleischner Society glossary. Categorical data were represented by absolute (n) and relative (%) frequency. The contingency matrices were analyzed by Pearson's Chi-square test. Interreader agreement was assessed by calculating the intraclass correlation coefficient, using kappa (κ) statistic. Results: Thirty-eight of 75 (50.7%) patients were women with a mean age of 59 ± 39 years. Infection was the most common cause of GLD (47/75, 62.7%) and Histoplasma capsulatum (27/75, 36%) was the most prevalent etiology. Nodular pattern was the most common imaging feature in histoplasmosis cases (25/27, 92.6%), whereas it occurred in half of cases (24/48) of GLD of other causes (p < 0.05). Among patients with tuberculosis, the second etiology of GLD in our study population, the most common imaging pattern was centrilobular micronodules (3/7, 42.9%), significantly more frequent than in other causes of GLD (6/68, 8.8%). Interreader agreement in detecting imaging features was almost perfect (κ = 0.88-1.00), except the nodular pattern, which had substantial agreement (κ = 0.73). Conclusions: In our study population, the main etiologies found in patients with granulomatous disease who underwent lung biopsy were fungal or mycobacterial disease, specially histoplasmosis and tuberculosis, and nodular pattern with focal distribution was the most common imaging finding which was detected with substantial interreader agreement.

Purpose Pulmonary imaging finding of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been widely described, but until now few studies have been published about abdominal radiological presentation. The aim of this study was to provide an overview of abdominal imaging findings in patients with COVID-19 in a multicenter study and correlate them with worse clinical outcomes. Materials and methods This retrospective study included adult COVID-positive patients with abdominal CT performed from 4/1/2020 to 5/1/2020 from two institutions. Demographic, laboratory and clinical data were recorded, including clinical outcomes. Results Of 81 COVID-positive patients, the average age was 61 years, 42 (52%) women and 45 (55%) had positive abdominopelvic findings. The most common abdominal imaging features were intestinal imaging findings (20/81, 24%), including colorectal (4/81, 5%) and small bowel thickening (10/81, 12%), intestinal distension (15/81, 18%), pneumatosis (1/81, 1%) and intestinal perforation (1/81, 1%). On multivariate analysis, intestinal imaging findings were associated with higher risk of worse outcome (death or invasive mechanical ventilation) (RR = 2.6, p = 0.04) and higher risk of invasive mechanical ventilation alone (RR = 6.2, p = 0.05). Conclusion Intestinal abnormalities were common findings in COVID-19 patients who underwent abdominal CT and were significantly correlated to worse outcomes in the clinical follow-up.

Medial meniscus posterior root tears (MMPRT) can lead to meniscal extrusion, loss of hoop tension, loss of load-sharing ability and increased contact pressure. Currently, the most commonly used technique for root repair is arthroscopic transtibial pullout repair (ATPR). This article aims to illustrate both normal and abnormal postoperative imaging findings of the MMPRT repair performed with ATPR, with emphasis on MRI. The radiologist must highlight the tunnel position, the reduction of the medial meniscus posterior root to its anatomical attachment, the signs of root healing (continuity and lower signal intensity), and eventual meniscal extrusion or signs of osteoarthritis.

Purpose Evaluate chest computed tomography (CT) findings of laboratory-confirmed Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases and correlate it with clinical and laboratorial signs of severe disease and short-term outcome. Methods Chest CTs of 61 consecutive cases of COVID-19 disease that attended in our emergency department (ED) were reviewed. Three groups of patients classified according to the short-term follow-up were compared: (1) early-discharged from ED, (2) hospitalized on regular wards, and (3) admitted to intensive care unit (ICU). CT findings were also correlated with clinical and laboratorial features associated with severe disease. Results Median age was 52 years (IQR 39–63) with male predominance (60.7%). Most of the patients that did not require hospitalization had parenchymal involvement of less than 25% on CT (84.6%). Among hospitalized patients, interlobular septal thickening and extensive lung disease (> 50% of parenchyma) were significantly more frequent in ICU-admitted patients (P = 0.018 and P = 0.043, respectively). Interlobular septal thickening also correlated with longer ICU stay (P = 0.018). Low oxygen saturation (SpO2 ≤ 93%) was associated with septal thickening (P = 0.004), diffuse distribution (P = 0.016), and pleural effusion (P = 0.037) on CT. All patients with > 50% of parenchymal involvement showed SpO2 ≤ 93%. Elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) levels (> 5.0 mg/dL) correlated with consolidation (P = 0.002), septal thickening (P = 0.018), diffuse distribution (P = 0.020), and more extensive parenchymal involvement (P = 0.017). Conclusion Interlobular septal thickening on CT was associated with ICU admission and longer stay on ICU. Diffuse distribution, septal thickening, and more extensive lung involvement correlated with lower SpO2 and higher CRP levels. Patients that needed hospitalization and ICU admission presented more extensive lung disease on CT.

The objective of this work was to accomplish the isolation, molecular identification and characterizing the physiology of the causal agent of the algal spot in mango trees. For this purpose, the pathogen growth was assessed in different culture media, with subsequent observation and measurements of the filamentous cells. The molecular identification was made using mycelium obtained from leaf lesions and pure algae colonies grown in culture medium. Descriptions based on DNA sequencing indicated that the algae is Cephaleuros virescens. The algae must be isolated primarily in liquid medium for further pricking into agar medium. The highest mycelial growth average in Petri dishes occurred when the algae were grown in Trebouxia and BBM. Trebouxia enabled larger cells in the filamentous cells when compared to other culture media.

Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) cultivation occurs mainly in regions with acidic soils, where high aluminum (Al) concentration is a major constraint to crop production. In this study, we evaluated tolerance and sensitivity traits to Al exposure and calcium (Ca) deficiency in bean plants, and determined the efficiency of Ca to mitigate the toxic Al effects. Two bean cultivars (BRS Estilo and Campos Gerais) were grown in three soil conditions: (I) soil liming with calcium hydroxide Ca(OH)2 and Al unavailable (-Al+Ca); (II) fertilized soil with calcium nitrate [Ca(NO3)2·4H2O] and Al available (+Al+Ca); and (III) soil without Ca addition and Al available (+Al-Ca). At the beginning of the reproductive stage, we evaluated the photosynthetic processes, mineral nutrition, and leaf anatomy and morphological traits of plants. The photosynthetic parameters were good tools for monitor Al sensitivity in bean. +Al+Ca soil treatment mitigated the deleterious effects of Al on growth and mineral nutrition of both bean cultivars. However, Ca did not prevent the toxic effects of Al on leaf anatomy. Al stress and Ca deficiency caused negative effects on nutrient content, photosynthetic activity and leaf anatomy of bean plants. Calcium mitigated Al toxicity, primarily in the Campos Gerais cultivar, showing the potential to improve bean crop productivity in acid soils.

O consumo de cogumelos e uma opcao atrativa para a alimentacao e para a saude humana devido as suas excelentes propriedades nutricionais e funcionais. Diante do aumento do interesse por novos alimentos, o objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar as caracteristicas sensoriais das formulacoes de barra de cereal adicionadas de farinha de cogumelo Pleurotus eryngii. Foram formuladas barras de cereal com adicao de farinha de cogumelo nos percentuais de 10% (F1), 20% (F2) e 30% (F3) e 0% (F0) representando o padrao. A analise sensorial contou com a participacao de 100 voluntarios nao treinados, e foi realizada atraves dos testes de aceitabilidade e intencao de compra, ambos com escala hedonica estruturada de 9 e 5 pontos, respectivamente. As amostras foram apresentadas aos provadores em ordem aleatoria e identificadas com codigos de tres digitos. Posteriormente foi calculado o indice de aceitabilidade das formulacoes. Das tres formulacoes de barra de cereal adicionadas de farinha de cogumelo a F2 obteve as maiores notas para os atributos estudados, apesar de nao serem encontradas diferencas estatisticas significativas entre as outras formulacoes. Tambem foram evidenciados o maior indice de aceitabilidade para todos os atributos e a maior de intencao de compra para esta formulacao. Os resultados revelam o elevado potencial da aplicacao da farinha de cogumelo Pleurotus eryngii em percentuais de 20% na formulacao de novos produtos alimenticios devido a boa aceitacao dos provadores para as caracteristicas sensoriais avaliadas neste estudo.

A insercao dos aparelhos digitais moveis em nossa sociedade mudou o modo de comunicacao e interacao entre as pessoas. O celular, inicialmente desenvolvido com a funcao prioritaria de telefonia movel, transformou-se em um smartphone, o qual possibilita, alem da comunicacao telefonica, a troca de mensagens instantaneas inclusive de voz , acesso a redes sociais, a noticias, a e-mails, a dispositivos que permitem movimentacoes bancarias, entre outros, que, antes so era possivel presencialmente. Assim, a mobilidade, que resulta em praticidade e em menor tempo gasto para realizacao de tarefas como essas, nos faz refletir sobre a possibilidade que os dispositivos moveis proporcionam ao individuo de agir no aqui e no agora, independentemente do lugar em que o usuario esteja. Com base nas mudancas na comunicacao e nas informacoes causadas pelo desenvolvimento desses aparelhos, estudiosos da area passaram a se interessar pela influencia desses artefatos no ensino. Neste sentido, a fim de colaborar com estudos que envolvam tecnologia e Linguistica Aplicada, proponho este trabalho, tendo como eixo orientador discussoes sobre a aprendizagem movel, sobre a adocaoda inovacao a partir do modelo de adocao de Rogers (2003), e sobre letramento digital, por meio, em especial, de Dias e Novais (2009). Para a realizacao desta pesquisa, observei um curso ministrado pelo projeto Taba Movel Redigir, voltado para formacao de professores de LinguaPortuguesa. Minha observacao teve como objetivo compreender se o letramento digital docente influencia ou nao a adocao da inovacao em uma formacao continuada online sobre o uso de dispositivos moveis e de aplicativos e, se sim, como se da esse processo, para tanto, proponho a adaptacao de um modelo de matriz de letramento digital docente em smartphones. A analise deste estudo de cunho qualitativo-interpretativista sera pautada nas respostas de doisquestionarios semiestruturados e em dialogos ocorridos em um grupo de WhatsApp, aplicativo utilizado para a realizacao da formacao continuada de 38 participantes de varios estados do Brasil, formacao esta que aconteceu durante oito semanas no segundo semestre de 2017. A partir da observacao, verifiquei que a percepcao desses docentes quanto a utilizacao do dispositivo movel, ou mais especificamente de smartphones e seus aplicativos, principalmenteo WhatsApp, configura-se como uma atitude positiva acerca da adocao da inovacao, mas que requer do professor um posicionamento perante o letramento digital. Desta forma, utilizar a tecnologia movel como pratica pedagogica e uma possibilidade para vincular o aprendizado a pratica social. The insertion of mobile digital devices in our society has changed the way people communicate and interact with one another. Based on the changes in communication and information caused by the development of these devices, scholars in the area began to be interested in the influence of these artifacts on teaching. In this sense, in order to collaborate with studies involving technology and Applied Linguistics, I propose this work, based on discussions on mobile learning, on Rogers' adoption model (2003), and on literacy digital, through, in particular, Diasand Novais (2009). For the accomplishment of this research, I observed a course taught by the project Taba Movel Redigir, aimed at the training of teachers of Portuguese Language. My observation aimed to whether or not digital teacher education supports the adoption of innovation in an online continuing education about the use of mobile devices and applications and, if so, how this process occurs for that, I propose the adaptation of a digital teacher matrix model in smartphones. The analysis of this qualitative-interpretative study will be based on the responses of two semi-structured questionnaires and dialogues in the WhatsApp group, an application used for the continuous training of 38 participants from several Brazilian states. This training took place during 8 weeks in the second half of 2017. From the observation, I noticed that the perception of these teachers regarding the use of the mobile device, or more specifically the smartphone and its applications, especially WhatsApp, is a positive attitude about adopting innovation, but that requires the teacher a positioning before the digital literacy.In this way, using mobile technology as a pedagogical practice is a possibility to link learningto social practice.

Sugarcane is a commercially important species for sugar and biofuel production and because of the high demand for plant material in planting, new means of propagation are being developed and require improvements. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different concentrations of indole-butyric acid (IBA) applied in the form of talc on the initial growth and emergence of sugarcane mini-cuttings used for the system of pre-sprouted plantlets (PSP). Mini-cuttings were treated with concentrations of 0, 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 mg kg-1 of IBA in the form of talc and evaluated for emergence and initial growth. There was no difference between IBA concentrations for the physiological, biometric and dry mass variables analyzed. The sugarcane plantlets formed had emergence above 89%, functional photosynthetic apparatus, 4.4 leaves on average, stem diameter of 11.90 mm, shoot length of 12.18 cm, leaf area of 108.81 cm² and root area of 142.17 cm². Shoot dry mass and root dry mass were equal to 2.27 and 1.20 grams, respectively. Thus, concentrations of up to 2000 mg kg-1 of IBA applied in the form of talc in sugarcane mini-cuttings had no effect on rooting and initial growth of plantlets. La caña de azúcar es una especie de importancia comercial para la producción de azúcar y biocombustibles y, debido a la alta demanda de material vegetal en la siembra, se están desarrollando nuevos medios de propagación que necesitan mejoras. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar el efecto de diferentes concentraciones de ácido indolbutírico (AIB) aplicado en forma de talco sobre el crecimiento inicial y la emergencia de las miniruelas de caña de azúcar utilizadas en el sistema de plántula prebroteda (MPB). Las miniruelas se trataron con concentraciones de 0, 500, 1000, 1500 y 2000 mg kg-1 de AIB en forma de talco y se evaluaron para determinar la emergencia y el crecimiento inicial. No hubo diferencia entre las concentraciones de IBA para las variables fisiológicas, biométricas y de masa seca analizadas. Las plántulas de caña de azúcar formadas presentaron emergencia superior al 89%, aparato fotosintético funcional, 4.4 hojas en promedio, diámetro del tallo de 11.90 mm, largo de brote de 12.18 cm, área foliar de 108, 81 cm² y área de raíces de 142.17 cm². La masa seca de la parte aérea y la masa seca de la raíz fueron de 2,27 y 1,20 gramos, respectivamente. Así, concentraciones de hasta 2.000 mg kg-1 de AIB aplicadas en forma de talco en miniruelas de caña de azúcar no afectaron el enraizamiento y crecimiento inicial de las plántulas. A cana-de-açúcar é uma espécie comercialmente importante para a produção de açúcar e biocombustíveis e, devido à alta demanda de material vegetal no plantio, novos meios de propagação estão sendo desenvolvidos e necessitam de melhorias. Portanto, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de diferentes concentrações de ácido indolbutírico (AIB) aplicado na forma de talco sobre o crescimento inicial e a emergência de minirrebolos de cana-de-açúcar utilizadas no sistema de mudas pré-brotadas (MPB). A massa seca da parte aérea e a massa seca da raiz foram iguais a 2,27 e 1,20 gramas, respectivamente. Assim, concentrações de até 2.000 mg kg-1 de AIB aplicadas na forma de talco em minirrebolos de cana-de-açúcar não afetaram o enraizamento e o crescimento inicial das mudas.

O conhecimento das doenças das plantas e seus respectivos agentes causais é importante quando se pensa na adoção de medidas para o manejo integrado e no aumento da produtividade. O objetivo deste trabalho caracterizar o agente causal do oídio ocorrente em plantas de falsa serralha (Emilia sonchifolia) proveniente de áreas adjacentes aos campos experimentais de horticultura do campus universitário da Universidade Estadual de Goiás (UEG), Ipameri, Brasil. Após inspeções nas áreas mencionadas, folhas de E. sonchifolia exibindo sintomas de oídio foram levadas ao Laboratório de Fitopatologia da UEG e examinadas em estereomicroscópio para caracterização dos sintomas e posterior raspagem das estruturas do fungo para confecção de lâminas semi-permanentes. Em seguida, realizou-se o registro de imagens e a caracterização morfológica de conídios, pela medição de 30 estruturas em microscópio de luz. O comprimento médio de conídios encontrados em falsa serralha foi de 27,8 x 12,7 µm, cuja média da relação comprimento/largura (C/L) foi de 2,1. Os dados obtidos foram suficientes para cofirmar o agente cuasal do oídio em sua fase anamórfica, utilizando plantas de E. sonchifolia como hospedeiro alternativo da doença. Este é o primeiro relato da ocorrência de Fibroidium emiliae-sonchifoliae em E. sonchifolia no Estado de Goiás.

A Alternaria alternata já foi isolada a partir de folhas de batata, no Brasil, entretanto, não há relatos sobre a ocorrência deste fungo em tubérculos de batata. Este trabalho objetivou confirmar a ocorrência de A. alternata em lesões presentes em tubérculos de batata. Para tanto, as lesões dos tubérculos atacados foram examinadas em estereomicroscópio, para a confecção de lâminas microscópicas semipermanentes, mediante a remoção de micélio e estruturas fúngicas encontradas sobre o tecido vegetal infectado. Os conídios apresentaram dimensões de 19,7-45,4 x 8,5-18,6 µm (28,3 x 12,5 µm) e formato de pera invertida, com coloração marrom clara e 2-6 (4) septos transversais e 1-5 (2) longitudinais, e as dimensões dos bicos dos conídios foram de 2,6-11,9 µm (4,4 µm). Estas características discriminaram o fungo como A. alternata. The Alternaria alternata has been already isolated from potato leaves, in Brazil, however, the occurrence of this fungus on potato tuber has never been reported. This study aimed at confirming the occurrence of A. Alternata in lesions present in potato tubers. Thus, lesions on the diseased tubers were examined in a stereomicroscope, in order to prepare semipermanent microscope slides by removing the mycelium and fungal structures found on the infected tuber tissue. The conidia presented the shape of an inverted pear, light brown, with dimensions of 19.7-45.4 x 8.5-18.6 µm (28.3 x 12.5 µm), and 2-6 (4) transversal and 1-5 (2) longitudinal septa, while the conidia beaks measures were 2.6-11.9 µm (4.4 µm). These features characterized the fungus as A. alternata.

The objective of this work was to accomplish the micromorphological characterization of the causal agent of the algal spot in ‘Amrapali’ mango trees. Therefore, ‘Amrapali’ mango leaves exhibiting symptoms of algal spots were used for making microscope slides, on which the pathogen somatic and reproductive structures were measured. The dimensions obtained for sporangiophores and sporangia were 245.5-545.6 × 10.5-19.1 μm and 21.4-34.2 × 16.3-24.7 μm, respectively. Descriptions based on symptoms and micromorphology indicated that the algae are Cephaleuros virescens, since this morphological data corroborates with literature descriptions. Besides, the algae had already identified by DNA sequencing as C. virescens.

A manga é considerada uma das mais importantes frutas tropicais cultivadas no mundo, em que o Brasil é o sétimo produtor mundial. Entretanto, muitos são os problemas encontrados nesta cultura como a mancha de algas, causada por Cehaleuros sp., que após se instalar em plantas de mangueira causam lesões foliares e tendem a se expandir e, como consequência ocorre redução da área fotossintética das folhas. Há poucos estudos referentes a características morfológicas, isolamento e epidemiologia deste microrganismo. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar a caracterização taxonômica do agente causal da mancha de algas em mangueira, o seu isolamento em meio de cultura, estudo da sua fisiologia in vitro e distribuição de lesões no campo. Para tanto, foi realizada a caracterização em microscópio de luz das estruturas do patógeno e o isolamento foi avaliado em diversos meios de cultura (com e sem adição de hormônios), com subsequente avaliação do crescimento e a observação da gênese de estruturas reprodutivas. Para estimar a incidência e severidade, um total de dez plantas (5 x 5 m) do pomar da Universidade Estadual de Goiás (UEG) foram avaliadas ao longo de cinco dias. Assim, com relação a sintomatologia, foram observadas lesões foliares de formato arredondado e coalescentes, de cor laranja, com textura aveludada, principalmente na face adaxial. As dimensões obtidas para esporangióforos e esporângios foram de 245,5 - 545,6 x 10,5 - 19,1 μm e de 21,4 - 34,2 x 16,3 - 24,7 μm, respectivamente. Não foi possível o isolamento da alga, a partir de fragmentos de tecido, em meio sólido, mas apenas em meio líquido Trebouxia. Entretanto, após isolamento em meio líquido, foi possível o cultivo em meio sólido, onde estruturas vegetativas e reprodutivas puderam ser visualizadas, com ou sem adição de hormônio, dependendo do meio de cultura. Na avaliação em campo, a incidência da doença nas plantas foi de 80 - 100% (média de 92,25%) não havendo diferença estatística entre as plantas; enquanto que para a severidade, metade das plantas exibiram de 4,68 a 7,31% de área foliar coberta com sintomas da mancha de algas (afcsma) e a outra metade posicionou-se em uma faixa superior (de 9,37 a 15,06% de afcsma). Assim conclui-se que: (1) descrições baseadas na sintomatologia, aliada às características micromorfológicas indicaram, que a alga encontrada em mangueira trata-se de Cephaleuros virescens; (2) o tamanho do esporangióforo é um caractere mais seguro para diferenciar C. virescens de C. parasiticus; (3) há necessidade da germinação de estruturas reprodutivas para originar talo vegetativo in vitro; (4) a adição de hormônio ao meio de cultivo, individualizada, não está relacionada como promotor do processo de gametogênese in vitro em Cephaleuros; (5) de forma oposta a incidência, a severidade possibilita evidenciar plantas em maior grau de ataque do que as demais e; (6) plantas com maior sombreamento apresentam maior severidade. The mango is one of the most important tropical fruit grown in the world, in which Brazil is the seventh world producer. However, there are many problems in this culture as the algal leaf spot, caused by Cehaleuros sp., that after install in mango cause leaf spots and tend to expand and, as consequence there is a reduction in the photosynthetic area of leaves. There are few studies about morphological characteristics, isolation and epidemiology of this microorganism. The objective of this work was the taxonomic characterization of the causal agent of the algal leaf spot in mango, its isolation in culture medium, study their in vitro physiology and distribution of lesions in the field. For this, was performed the characterization in light microscopy of pathogen structures and isolation was evaluated in various culture medium (with and without added hormones), with subsequent growth assessment and observation of the genesis of reproductive structures. To estimate the incidence and severity, a total of ten plants (5 x 5 m) from the orchard of the University State of Goiás (UEG) were evaluated along five days. Thus, with respect to symptoms, have been observed foliar lesions rounded and coalescing format, orange color, with velvety texture, especially in the upper side. The dimensions obtained for sporangiophores and sporangia were 245.5 - 545.6 x 10.5 - 19.1 μm and 21.4 - 34.2 x 16.3 - 24.7 μm, respectively. The isolation of the algae from tissue fragments on solid medium was not possible, but only in liquid medium Trebouxia. However, after isolation in liquid medium, was possible cultivation in solid medium, where vegetative and reproductive structures could be visualized, with or without added hormone, depending on the culture medium. In the field evaluation, the incidence of the disease in plants was 80 - 100% (mean 92.25%) with no statistical difference between plants; while for the severity, half of the plants exhibited 4.68 to 7.31% of leaf area covered with stain symptoms of algae (afcsma) and the other half positioned itself in a higher range (9.37 to 15.06% of afcsma). Unlike incidence, the severity showed plants in greater attack than the others. Thus it is concluded that: (1) Based on the descriptions of the symptomatology, combined with the micromorphological characteristics, indicated that the algae found in mango is Cephaleuros virescens; (2) The size of the sporangiophore is a safer character to differentiate C. virescens x C. parasiticus; (3) Germination of reproductive structures is required to give vegetative stem in vitro; (4) The addition of the hormone to the culture medium, individually, is not related as promoter of in vitro gametogenesis process in Cephaleuros; (5) As opposed to the incidence, the severity enables show plants with greater degree of attack than the others and; (6) Plants with higher shading present higher severity.
