En cette année 2020 un peu particulière, la journée scientifique s'est tenu sous la forme d’un webinaire organisé par le site clermontois représenté par l’Institut Pascal (IP).; National audience; The aim of this work is to conduct an experimental study on gas-liquid flow patterns in an in-house made Ring flowloop called Rock&Roll. The Rock&Roll flowloop is a unique apparatus the pipe is installed on a disk that is sequentially inclined by an axis in 4 positions, to induce the motion of the fluid, inside the ring-tube, similarly to a rocking cell. Two parameters drive the torus: the inclination angle and the rotation speed. The absence of pump enables undisturbed flow, while the endless test section affords flow to become fully developed. The first experimental investigations enabled to establish the experimental protocol and study the air-water two-phase flow patterns in the torus by varying liquid loading, diameter of the tube and rotation speed of the torus. On the base of qualitative observations, a flow regime map was produced.

Gas-liquid flow dynamics in pipes is a complex phenomenon encountered in many industrial spheres. Particularly, in petroleum production and transportation the design of the facilities, safety, and efficiency of the industrial operations strongly depend on accurate prediction of flow behavior. Since the seventies, two-phase flow models and correlations predicting the liquid holdup and pressure drop, have been actively developed. However, there are still mismatches between model predictions and experimental results. These discrepancies may be attributed to the benchtop limitations in length, complexity of the gas-liquid interface, and accuracy of empirical correlations used within a model.

National audience; L’objective est de présenter des résultats préliminaires des tests de cristallisation d’hydrate de gaz dans la boucle Archimède, après l’installation des capteurs d’émission acoustique et de permissivité. Les résultats montrent qu’il est possible de suivre les particules d’hydrate et d’identifier les dépôts sur les parois et/ou les accumulations d’hydrate spécifiques le long du pipeline, identifier la phase continue et détecter l'inversion de phase dans certaines conditions. Avec ces résultats, nous attendons à pouvoir caractériser le modèle d'écoulement avant et après la formation d'hydrate et à classer la sévérité de la formation d'hydrate en fonction des géométries d'écoulement observés. - La formation d'hydrates de gaz peux poser un problème de production dans certaines conduites pétrolières. Les inhibiteurs thermodynamiques d'hydrate (THIs) et les inhibiteur d'hydrates à faible dosage (LDHIs) qui comprennent les inhibiteurs cinétiques (KHIs) et anti-agglomérants (AAs) sont les additifs habituellement utilisés par l'industrie pour éviter la formation de bouchons d'hydrate. Les THIs et les LDHIs ont des avantages et des inconvénients. Les additifs LDHI-AA sont censés réduire la taille des particules d'hydrate et empêcher ou limiter leur agglomération. De nombreux travaux dans la littérature ont montré que les LDHI-AAs réduisent le blocage pour les systèmes à faible fraction d’eau, mais qu'ils ne sont apparemment pas très efficaces dans les scénarios à fortes fractions d'eau.Le présent travail a pour but de mieux comprendre la formation d’hydrates dans les pipelines par le biais d’une étude expérimentale sur la formation d’hydrates de gaz dans un circuit en boucle se concentrant sur les systèmes à fort pourcentage d’eau avec et sans AA. Les tests sont réalisés dans la boucle Archimède à l’école des Mines de Saint-Etienne ([1] et [2]) avec gaz naturel, eau et l’huile Kerdane. La boucle est composé par un pipeline de 50 mètres, avec des sections horizontales, ascendantes et descendantes. Il est équipé d'un système de refroidissement, de sondes de perte de charge et de température. Il est possible de travailler avec une pression absolue allant jusqu'à 75 bars. Le système comporte également une mesure de réflectance du faisceau focalisé (FBRM) et un mesurage vidéo de particules (PVM). Les améliorations récentes de l'instrumentation comprennent l'installation de sondes à émission acoustique pour suivre la formation d'hydrates, l'agglomération et les dépôts.Les résultats préliminaires montrent qu’avec l’émission acoustique, la distribution de la longueur des cordes et la mesure de la perte de charge, il est possible de suivre les particules d’hydrate et d’identifier les dépôts sur les parois et/ou les accumulations d’hydrate spécifiques le long du pipeline. Une autre amélioration du pilote expérimental a été l'installation d'une sonde de permittivité, qui aide à identifier la phase continue et à détecter l'inversion de phase dans certaines conditions après le début de la cristallisation. Avec les sondes d'émission acoustique et de permittivité, nous nous attendons à pouvoir caractériser le modèle d'écoulement avant et après la formation d'hydrate et à classer la sévérité de la formation d'hydrate en fonction des modèles d'écoulement observés.[1] Melchuna, A., Cameirao, A., Herri, J-M., Glenat, P. International audience; Cyclopentane hydrates-based salt-removal has been considered to be one promising technologies for desalination because it requires a low amount of operating compared to traditional methods such as thermal distillation, membrane separation, or freezing. In order to design a desalination, or water treatment, plant, it is necessary to understand both the thermodynamics of crystallization of hydrates (CPH) in presence of salt, and the kinetics. Therefore, this study aims to determine and model the equilibria of cyclopentane hydrates in the presence of electrolytes. Eight salt mixtures have been considered: NaCl, KCl, NaCl-KCl, CaCl2, Na2SO4, MgCl2, MgCl2-NaCl, MgCl2-NaCl-KCl, with a wide range of concentrations. Two successive experimental procedures, quick and slow, have been applied to determine equilibrium temperatures. The objective of the quick procedure is to provide an initial estimate of the equilibrium temperature. Then, the slow procedure is used to obtain more accurate data. Experimental results show that equilibrium temperatures dropped significantly with an increase in salt concentration, whatever the kinds of salt. In comparison with the literature, the final slow procedure in pure water provides, or with NaCl, provide results very close to studies of Kishimoto et al. and Zylyftari et al., obtained either by slow dissociation or micro Differential Scanning Calorimetry (&#0181-DSC). Moreover, salt co-precipitation can be achieved simultaneously with the cyclopentane hydrate formation. For instance, the eutectic point of four phase equilibrium of {liquid water + liquid CP + CPH + Na2SO4.10H2O} has been obtained in this study. This provides possibility for by-products, or value added products, recovery thanks to CPH. Afterward, four thermodynamic approaches have been considered for the results modelling. One is based on Standard Freezing Point Depression method. Another one considers the very new Hu-Lee-Sum (HLS) correlation, designed to predict the suppression temperature of clathrate hydrates when an additive is introduced into the system. The two last models are based on van der Waals and Platteeuw model, using either Kihara potential, or a correlation instead (ABOC).All models provide data with a difference lower than 0.7°C compared to experimental results. However, the best method is the ABOC method (activity based occupancy correlation). This approach uses a correlation between the clathrate occupancy, and the water activity. It furnishes equilibrium temperatures within 0.2°C uncertainty.

National audience; The formation of gas hydrates in oil and gas pipelines has developed into a hazardous problem, since it may cause the plugging of the pipeline. Recent studies have shown that coupling multiphase flow and gas hydrate formation is necessary in order to predict plugging tendencies (Ding et al., 2017; Joshi et al., 2013; Melchuna et al., 2016; Pham, 2018). The flow pattern before hydrate formation affects the hydrate formation rate, since the hydrate formation requires the contact between water and gas. The droplets sizes present on the flow will directly interfere on the initial size of the particles. The flow pattern after hydrate formation plays a decisive role on whether the plugging will be observed or not. Three important phenomena in solid-liquid flow are agglomeration, deposition and sedimentation of particles. Agglomeration occurs when two particles collide and adhere each other due to the attractive forces and growth near the contact between them. It directly affects the size of the dispersed particles. The larger are the particles flowing in the pipeline, the higher is the risk of plugging. Deposition occurs due to the collision of the particles to the wall and other phenomena. Sedimentation of particles at the bottom or at the top of the pipeline takes place when the flow velocity is not enough to carry the particles. When deposition or sedimentation occur, the cross sectional area is reduced, affecting the flow rate and the pressure drop, which increases the risk of plugging. The biggest challenge is to understand how these three phenomena will occur over time and space. The objective of this work is to analyze the mechanisms observed in agglomeration, deposition and sedimentation of particles, investigate how they behave according to the flow initial conditions, and see if it is possible to stablish a relationship between the observed flow patterns and the plugging risk. An experimental work will be conducted to simulate hydrate formation using a flow loop (Melchuna et al., 2016), applying high pressure and low temperature similar to the ones found in deep sea. A range of water cut with different flow rates will be tested. A commercial anti-agglomerant and salt will be tested as well to evaluate if they reduce the risk of plugging.; La formation d'hydrates de gaz dans les oléoducs et les gazoducs est devenue un problème dangereux, car elle peut provoquer le bouchage des pipelines. L'objectif de ce travail est d'analyser les mécanismes d'agglomération, de dépôt et de sédimentation des particules, en fonction des conditions initiales d'écoulement. Un travail expérimental sera mené pour former les hydrates en utilisant une boucle d'écoulement à haute pression et basse température. Une gamme de fractions d'eau avec des différents débits sera testée. Un additif antiagglomérant et du sel seront également testés pour évaluer s'ils réduisent le risque de bouchage.
