Condensation of 8-hydroxyquinoline-2-carbaldehyde with 2-aminophenol gave the (E)-2-[(2-hydroxyphenylimino)methyl]quinolin-8-ol derivative that reacted with di-n-butyltin oxide with release of H2O to yield the chelate title complex, [Sn2(C4H9)4(C16H10N2O2)2]. The compound crystallizes in the triclinic space group P-1, with two independent centrosymmetric dimers in the unit cell. Each features a typical pincer-type structure where the dianionic ligand is tetradentate, coordinating to the central tin atom through both phenolate oxygen atoms, as well as through the quinoline and imine N atoms. Each metal atom adopts a distorted pentagonal–bipyramidal SnC2N2O3 coordination arising from the N,N′,O,O′-tetradentate deprotonated Schiff base, one bridging phenolate O atom of the neighbouring ligand and two butyl groups in the axial sites.

Uterine (cervix and corpus) cancer is one of the major causes of mortality in women in Mexico. Organotin carboxylated derivatives have shown high cytotoxic activity against various cell lines of human origin. We describe the synthesis of three new tri- n-butyltin derivatives from 4-oxo-4-(arylamino)butanoic acids; their structures were confirmed using spectral data (1H NMR, 13C NMR, 119Sn NMR and infrared), elemental analyses, and X-ray diffraction. All the tri- n-butyltin carboxylates exhibit 1 J (119/117Sn-13C) coupling satellites in solution and lie in the range 357 to 339 Hz, suggesting a tetrahedral geometry around the tin atom. The polymeric structures of two of the derivatives and the monomeric structure of another were confirmed using X-ray crystallography. Using succinic anhydride as raw material, five N-substituted succinamic acid compounds were synthesized by the reaction with aniline, 4-nitroaniline, 4-nitro-3-(trifluoromethyl)aniline, 2-amino-5-nitrothiazole and 4-aminoantipyrine. From these compounds, five tin derivatives were prepared and their in vitro anti-proliferative effect on HeLa, CaSki and ViBo cell lines was screened. All of the compounds showed potency against all three strains and null or low cytotoxic activity (necrotic) as well. The most potent of our derivatives as an anti-proliferative agent against the three cell lines was tributylstannyl 4-oxo-4-[(3-trifluoromethyl-4-nitrophen-1-yl)amino]butanoate, exhibiting an IC50 value of 0.43 μM against the HeLa cell line. Two novel triorganotin carboxylate complexes of the biologically active urocanic acid have been synthesized and characterized. Elemental analysis, melting point, spectroscopic techniques - IR, 1H, 13C and 119Sn NMR - mass spectrometry and X-ray diffraction studies have been used for structural characterization. Crystal structures of the tin(IV) derivatives show that urocanic acid acts as a bridging bidentate ligand through its imidazole nitrogen atom and its carboxylic group, producing a polymeric one-dimensional chain. The molecular structures of the complexes, catena-poly-tri( n-butyl)tin(IV) 3-(3 H-imidazol-4-yl)prop-2-enoate (1) and catena-poly-triphenyltin(IV) 3-(3 H-imidazol-4-yl)prop-2-enoate (2), present a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal configuration. This is further confirmed by 119Sn NMR in the solid state. The tin(IV) derivatives form double-stranded ribbons via N-H...O-H bonds. Nevertheless, the compounds are essentially monomeric in solution, with a tetrahedral configuration as observed by 119Sn NMR in solution. The cytotoxic activity of the titled compounds has been tested against six human cell lines and the corresponding IC50 values are reported. Both tin(IV) compounds have a high to very high in vitro cytotoxic activity against the tumor cell lines K562, HCT-15 and MCF-7. It is known that an inflammatory condition in different types of cancer provides a sustained microenvironment that favors tumor growth, invasion, and metastasis. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as indomethacin have demonstrated chemo-preventive, anti-proliferative and cytotoxic effects in a variety of tumors. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of an organotin indomethacin derivative (OID) on the proliferation of breast and prostate cancer cell lines and the possible mechanisms of action of this compound. Different cancer cell lines were treated in the presence of OID and cell proliferation was measured by quantification of the DNA content, changes in the cell cycle profile and the activation of caspase 3 were evaluated by flow cytometry, interleukin 6 (IL-6) gene expression was evaluated by qPCR and protein expression was analyzed by ELISA and Western blot assays. OID inhibited the cell proliferation of a panel of cancer cell lines in a concentration-dependent manner. Moreover, the addition of OID to lapatinib treatment, targeted therapy for breast cancer, significantly enhanced its antiproliferative response. The effects on cell proliferation of these compounds involved, among others, the induction of apoptosis, the downregulation of IL-6 and a decrease of the MAPK activation pathway. Dialkyltin dichloride grafted to a cross-linked polystyrene, with the formula [P-H]((1-t))[P-(CH2)nSnBuCl2]t (P=[CH2CH(pC6H4)], t=the degree of functionalization, and n=6 or 11), is investigated as a recyclable catalyst in the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of epsilon-caprolactone (CL). It is demonstrated that high-resolution magic-angle-spinning (HR-MAS) NMR spectroscopy is an invaluable tool to characterize completely the supported catalyst. The 2D 1H-13C HSQC HR-MAS spectrum, in particular, allowed extensive assignment of the 1H and 13C resonances, as well as accurate measurement of the (n)J((1)H-(117/119)Sn) and (n)J((13)C-(117/119)Sn) coupling constants. 1H and 119Sn HR-MAS NMR spectroscopy is presented as a monitoring tool for catalytic processes based on organotin compounds, particularly for the investigation of the extent to which polymerization residues are observable in situ in the material pores and for the assessment of the chemical integrity and recycling conditions of the grafted catalyst. From polymerization experiments with CL, initiated by n-propanol and with [P-H]((1-t))[P-(CH2)nSnBuCl2]t of various compositions as the supported catalyst, it appears that a partial 'burst' of the polystyrene support occurs when the length of the alkyl spacer is limited to n=6, as a result of polymer chains growing within the pores of the support. However, extension of the length of the aliphatic polymethylene spacer from 6 to 11 carbon atoms preserves the support integrity and allows the production of catalyst-deprived poly(epsilon-caprolactone) (PCL) oligomers. A preliminary attempt to recycle the heterogeneous catalyst has shown that very good reproducibility can be obtained, in terms of both catalyst activity and molecular-weight parameters of the as-recovered PCL polyester chains.

Insoluble polystyrene grafted compounds of the type (P-H)(1-t){P-(CH2)n SnBu(p)Cl(3-p)}(t), (P-H)(1-t){P-(CH2)n SnBuO}(t) and (P-H)(1-t)[{P-(CH2)n SnBuCl}2O](t/2), in which (P-H) is a cross-linked polystyrene; n=4, 6, and 11; p=0 and 1; and t the degree of functionalisation, were synthesised from Amberlite XE-305, a polystyrene cross-linked with divinylbenzene. The compounds were characterised by using elemental analysis, and IR, Raman, solid-state 117Sn NMR, and 1H and 119Sn high-resolution MAS NMR spectroscopy. The influence of the spacer length and the tin functionality on the catalytic activity of these compounds, as well as their recycling ability, was assessed in the transesterification reaction of ethyl acetate with various alcohols. These studies showed significant differences in the activity of the catalysts interpreted in terms of changes in the mobility of the catalytic centres. Some of the supported catalysts could be recycled at least seven times without noticeable loss of activity. The residual tin content in the reaction products was found to be as low as 3 ppm.
