2. Effectiveness of Physiotherapy for Improving Functionality, Participation, and Quality of Life after a Stroke: Study Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial.

Abstract

Background: Stroke survivors experience significant alterations in their daily functionality that has a negative impact on their functionality, participation, and quality of life. Person-centered approaches in Physical Therapy interventions that are focused on functional and meaningful goals help to minimize the impact of the alterations. Therefore, the aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of a Physical Therapy intervention based on a goal-oriented approach with task-specific training for improving functionality, participation, and quality of life for people with Stroke. Methods: A single-blinded randomized controlled clinical trial will be developed. Adults over 50 years old diagnosed with Stroke over 6 months will be included in this study. Participants (n = 62) will be randomly allocated into two groups: The experimental group (n = 31) will receive 30 sessions, three per week during 10 weeks, of Physical Therapy sessions of goal-directed and task-specific training. The control group (n = 31) will follow the same intervention intensity of their usual Physical Therapy treatment. The primary outcome variables quality of life (NewsQol), participation (Ox-PAQ), and gait functionality (FAC) and the secondary outcome variables functional disability (BI), postural control (PASS), dynamic trunk balance (TIS), and functional goals (GAS) will be measured at baseline, after group interventions (10 weeks), and 6 months after the baseline. Statistical analyses will include repeated-measures ANOVA, Student's t-test, or the Mann–Whitney U-test, with a 95% confidence interval and significance level of p < 0.05. Conclusion: Person-centered approaches in Physical Therapy interventions may yield better outcomes in functionality, participation, and quality of life for Stroke patients compared to standardized interventions. Abstract

Background: Stroke causes a wide variety of clinical manifestations that may have a negative impact on quality of life. Therefore, it is very important to use specific instruments for measuring quality of life in individuals who suffered a stroke. The aim of this study was to develop a psychometrically validated Spanish version of the Newcastle stroke-specific quality of life measure (NEWSQOL). Methods: A psychometric validation of the Spanish version of the NEWSQOL questionnaire was carried out in 159 patients. The reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient and Cronbach’s alpha coefficient), validity (factorial analysis and Spearman’s coefficient), feasibility (response rate), and the ceiling and floor effects were calculated. Results: Internal consistency showed that Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.93. The test–retest reliability was high or excellent for all domains (range 0.71–0.97 p < 0.001). The response rate of the questionnaire was 100% and the average administration time was 20.5 (±7.2) min. No ceiling effect was detected and two domains (pain and vision) may have a significant potential for floor effect. Construct validity showed that all the variables are important enough to keep them all in the questionnaire. Concerning convergent construct validity, a high correlation was found with the Nottingham Health Profile, the Barthel Index, and the Modified Rankin Scale. Abstract

Se determina mediante análisis de co-palabras, los principales temas de investigación de la Fisioterapia en España mediante un estudio descriptivo longitudinal retrospectivo. Se recuperaron los documentos de la Web of Science que versan sobre rehabilitación y fisioterapia en España, sin límite de fechas de publicación; y se trataron con técnicas de análisis y visualización de redes para facilitar la interpretación gráfica de la información basada en coocurrencias de KeyWord Plus. Las principales líneas de investigación detectadas versan sobre rehabilitación y calidad de vida en enfermedades pulmonares, en enfermedades cardíacas, en reconstrucción articular, en lesiones neurológicas y sobre disfunciones del aparato locomotor y su abordaje a través de diferentes modalidades de fisioterapia. La metodología propuesta ha resultado interesante para hacer una primera aproximación a la delimitación temática de la fisioterapia. Futuros trabajos deberían enfocarse al estudio en profundidad de los descriptores más representativos sobre Disfunciones del aparato locomotor, para determinar los temas de investigación de la Fisioterapia en España de forma más específica.

10. Producción científica española en rehabilitación y fisioterapia a través de la Web of Science

Abstract

Se presentan los resultados del análisis de la producción científica desarrollada en España en las áreas de rehabilitación y fisioterapia, recogida en la Web of Science. Para ello se realiza un estudio descriptivo retrospectivo con los documentos que contiene la base de datos hasta 2011, determinando entre otros indicadores bibliométricos: la tipología documental, la producción por zonas geográficas, sectores institucionales, centros y categorías temáticas. Los resultados se obtienen tras el análisis de 1302 documentos, de los cuales el 75,19% son artículos científicos. Los sectores institucionales más productivos son los hospitales (54,8%) y la universidad (43,9%). Las Comunidades autónomas más productivas son Madrid (28,2%) y Cataluña (25,5%), así como sus diferentes centros hospitalarios y universitarios de referencia. Las categorías predominantes resultan ser neurología clínica y rehabilitación.
