The aim of this study was to understand social workers' descriptions concerning how people with financial aid are affected mentally by being provided with financial aid. ​​The study was based on semi-structured interviews with six professional social workers from various municipalities in the south of Skåne, who work within the social service department for financial aid. The theoretical methods used for analyzing our material were Erving Goffman's theory of Stigma and Donald Nathanson's theory of Shame and Pride. This study found through social workers' descriptions that several factors affect people's mental health, due to living off financial aid. The results of our study showed that social workers experience people who receive financial aid as having a higher risk of developing mental health problems, because of their financial vulnerability. The study also found according to the social workers that people who are dependent on financial aid for a longer period of time experience a high difficulty to get economically independent in the future. Social workers also describe people who are dependent on financial aid for a long period of time as being at a higher risk of developing mental health problems in the future. Reasons for developing mental health problems due to being provided by financial aid were explained by the social workers being due to their clients experiencing shame, stigmatization, and exclusion. The result of our study also shows through social workers' descriptions that economic vulnerability contributes to isolation because people who experience it tend to feel stigmatized, left out, and filled with feelings of shame. According to the responding social workers, people who receive financial aid tend to feel ashamed because they do not have the capacity to provide for themselves. This leads them to feel left out and stigmatized since they are not living by society's norms, such as for example having a job and being able to provide for themselves.

This thesis examines the integration of post-disaster recovery into urban renewal to foster a more sustainable district. The complex and multidimensional nature of post-disaster recovery necessitates a comprehensive understanding of various disciplines. Instead of focusing solely on physical reconstruction, this research seeks to enhance temporary living conditions by considering the entirety of the recovery process, analyzing both short and long-term impacts, and developing comprehensive strategies that extend beyond shelter and housing. By broadening the scope to include values such as tradition and comfort while critically evaluating the notion of temporary this study aims to provide a holistic approach to temporary living. A key focus of this thesis is the pressing need for strategic site selection and temporary housing in the aftermath of earthquakes in Türkiye. By re-evaluating the post-disaster recovery process and exploring the relationship between disaster recovery and urban design, the design proposal concentrates on integrating post-disaster living scenarios at the early stages of urban design in order to assess their feasibility. Emphasizing the potential of strategic site selection and district-scale development, this approach aligns with post-disaster scenarios while enhancing the everyday urban life of the selected area. Furthermore, this thesis project encompasses design interventions at various scales, with a specific emphasis on a proposal aimed at improving collective living culture through sustainable urban design strategies. By creating social spaces for survivors not only within the temporary housing area but also in the surrounding vicinity, the design proposal facilitates psychosocial recovery and encourages survivors to reintegrate into an active urban life.
