RESUMEN Se reporta el caso de un caballo criollo colombiano de 7 años que ingresó a la Clínica Veterinaria de Grandes Animales de la Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia. En la evaluación clínica se determinó la fractura del hueso incisivo. Se procedió a su corrección a través de la técnica de restauración mediante el anclaje de alambre o cableado interdental de los incisivos (técnica de cerclaje). El paciente presentó una evolución satisfactoria mostrando una consolidación de la fractura sin complicaciones de maloclusión. El procedimiento implementado fue relativamente simple y proporcionó bienestar al equino. ABSTRACT It is reported the case of a 7-year-old Colombian Creole horse that was admitted to the Large Animal Veterinary Clinic of the Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia. In the clinical evaluation, the fracture of the incisor bone was determined. It was corrected through the restoration technique using a wire anchorage or interdental wiring of the incisors (cerclage technique). The patient presented a satisfactory evolution showing a consolidation of the fracture without complications of malocclusion. The implemented procedure was relatively simple and provided welfare to the equine.

A fabricação industrial de produtos naturais para uso animal é uma das grandes fragilidades do setor veterinário, apesar de um crescente interesse e do suporte dado pelos conhecimentos tradicionais ancestrais. Foi realizado um estudo observacional descritivo transversal para caracterizar os fitoterápicos veterinários comercializados mundialmente no período de 2018-2019 através de uma busca temática exaustiva nas bases de dados ScienceDirect, Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, ResearchGate e Academic Search Complete. O estudo mostrou a existência de 487 produtos registrados no mercado mundial, fabricados por 54 empresas, lideradas pela Índia, Holanda e Reino Unido. Os segmentos Danimal produtivo e fitomedicamentos dominam o mercado com 73,7% e 53,0% dos produtos, respectivamente. Bovinos (22,2%), ovinos-cabras (16,2%) e caninos (16,2%) foram as espécies mais favorecidas. As indicações terapêuticas mais representadas foram aquelas destinadas à correção de distúrbios gastrointestinais (30,47%), antimicrobianos (16,66%) e antiparasitários (10,47%). Devido à alta frequência de uso, destacam se as famílias Fabaceae, Lamiaceae, Asteraceae, Apiaceae, Malvaceae e Rutaceae, que compreendem 35,0% das 137 espécies declaradas a saber, Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f.) Nees e Withania somnífera (Lin) Dunal, são as mais importantes. Constatou-se que as formulações para uso interno via oral (72%) e líquida (51%) em embalagens de 100, 500 e 1000 mL são as que prevalecem no mercado. O mercado global de produtos fitoterápicos durante o período de 2018-2019 foi relevante para animais produtivos e o setor médico. Não foram encontradas diferenças entre as espécies de plantas medicinais utilizadas em formulações de produtos fitoterápicos para uso humano e animal. The industrial manufacturing of natural products for veterinary use represents a major weakness in the veterinary sector despite increased interest and the traditional ancestral knowledge that supports them. A cross-sectional, descriptive observational study was conducted to characterize the veterinary herbal products marketed worldwide during 2018 and 2019. A comprehensive thematic search limited to the 2018-2019 period was performed in the ScienceDirect, Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, ResearchGate, and Academic Search Complete databases. The investigation identified 487 products registered in the global market manufactured by 54 companies, led by India, The Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. The market segments of animal production and phytomedicines were dominant with 73.7% and 53.0% of products, respectively. Cattle (22.2%), sheep-goats (16.2%), and canines (16.2%) were the most favored species. The most represented therapeutic indications were those intended to treat gastrointestinal disorders (30.47%), antimicrobials (16.66%), and antiparasitic agents (10.47%). The families Fabaceae, Lamiaceae, Asteraceae, Apiaceae, Malvaceae, and Rutaceae stood out because of their frequent use, encompassing 35.0% of the 137 declared species. Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f.) Nees and Withania somnifera (Lin) Dunal were the most important species. Oral formulations for internal use (72%) and liquids (51%) in 100 mL, 500 mL, and 1 L presentations showed the highest prevalence on the market. The global market for veterinary herbal products during the 2018-2019 period was relevant in the productive and medical animal sector. No differences were found between medicinal plant species used to formulate herbal products for human and animal use.

Se describen dos casos de caninos infectados con Hepatozoon canis en la ciudad de Cúcuta, Colombia. La primera paciente de 18 meses de edad llegó a consulta con vómitos, anorexia y pérdida progresiva de peso. En el segundo caso se pretendía realizar ovariohisterectomía preventiva, pero en los exámenes clínicos prequirúrgicos presentó anemia. Para los dos casos, el diagnóstico fue mediante extendido sanguíneo, observado a 100X. Para el segundo caso, el diagnóstico se confirmó con la prueba de PCR. El tratamiento instaurado fue sintomático, usando fármacos como oxitetraciclina y doxiciclina. Este es el primer reporte de hepatozoonosis en la ciudad de Cúcuta. Two cases of canines infected with Hepatozoon canis are described in the city of Cúcuta, Colombia. The first patient of 18 months of age came to consultation with vomiting, anorexia, and progressive weight loss. In the second case, it was intended to perform preventive ovariohysterectomy, but the patient presented anemia in the pre-surgical clinical tests. For both cases, the diagnosis was by blood smear, observed at 100X. For the second case the diagnose was confirmed by PCR. The treatment established was symptomatic, using drugs such as oxytetracycline and doxycycline. This is the first report of hepatozoonosis in the city of Cúcuta.

Estudos prévios demonstraram aumento no desempenho produtivo em tilápias-do-Nilo, porém os peixes apresentaram alterações hepáticas. Este trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar o desempenho produtivo e aspectos toxicológicos emtilápias-do-Nilo e acará-bandeira, alimentados com dietas suplementadas com unha-de-gato.No estudo com tilápias-do-Nilo foram testados níveis de suplementação 0; 150; 300; 450 mg de unha-de-gato / kg-1 de ração, sendo a avaliação das tilápias em delineamento em blocos casualizados (peso), com quatro repetições. Além da avaliação inicial, foram realizadas duas biometrias (30 dias e 60 dias) para avaliar desempenho produtivo, coleta de sangue e órgãos (fígado, rim, baço). No estudo com acará-bandeira, foram estudadas os níveis de0; 75; 150; 300; 450 mg de unha-de-gato / kg de ração, em um delineamento inteiramente casualizado.Para as análises de desempenho produtivo e coleta de órgãos foram realizadas biometrias a cada 30 dias durante 5 meses, sendo que no último mês os peixes foram submetidos à simulação de transporte por 24 horas. Posteriormente, foram avaliados a glicemia sanguínea, mortalidade e parâmetros de qualidade da água.No estudo com tilápias-do-Nilo, aos 30 dias, os peixes apresentaram redução no consumo médio de ração e conversão alimentar aparente nos grupos alimentados com dietas contendo unha-de-gato. A proteína total e globulina foram maiores no grupo arraçoado com a concentração de 450 mg/kg. Os demais parâmetros avaliados não apresentaram diferença (p>0,05) entre os tratamentos. Aos 60 dias as tilápias suplementadas com a planta não apresentaram diferenças no desempenho produtivo e na avaliação da série vermelha quando comparados ao grupo controle.Aos 30 dias não houve diferença entre os tratamentos para glicemia, mas este mesmo parâmetro... Cat's claw (Uncaria tomentosa) is an Amazonian plant that presents anti-inflammatory properties. Previous studies have shown an increase in the productive performance of Nile tilapia; however, fish presented liver alterations. This study aimed to evaluate the performance and toxicological aspects in Nile tilapia and freshwater angelfish fed diets supplemented with cat's claw. In the study with Nile tilapia were tested supplementation levels of 0; 150; 300; 450 mg of cat's claw/Kgof feed, and the assessment of Nile tilapia was in a randomized block design (weight) with four replications. In the initial assessment, there were two biometrics (30 days and 60 days) to evaluate growth performance, collection of blood and organs (liver, kidney, spleen). In the study with angelfish, were studied levels of 0; 75; 150; 300; 450 mg of cat's claw/Kg of diet in a completely randomized design.For the analysis of growth performance and collection of organs were collected every 30 days for 5 months, and in the last month fish were submitted to simulations of transport for 24 hours. After that, they were evaluated blood glucose, mortality and water quality parameters. In the study with Nile tilapia, at 30 days, fish presented a reduction in feed mean intake and feed conversion in the groups fed diets containing cat's claw. Total protein and globulin were higher in the group fed 450 mg/Kg. Other parameters did not differ (p> 0.05) between treatments. At 60 days,Nile tilapia supplemented with the plant did not show differences in growth performance and blood countcompared to the control group.
