Abstract This study explored the comorbid mechanisms between Crohn’s disease (CD) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) using bioinformatics analysis. From the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) microarray dataset, 349 common differentially expressed genes (coDEGs) were identified, and 8 shared hub genes were found: CCL2, CXCL1, TLR2, ICAM1, PTPRC, ITGAX, PTGS2, and MMP9, which were vital for immune function and regulation of inflammatory responses. In addition, the study also analyzed the association between coDEGs and immune cell infiltration using the single-sample gene set enrichment algorithm (ssGSEA). Potential drugs related to these genes were identified using the connectivity map (CMap). These findings provided new perspectives for understanding the interaction between CD and COPD.

Abstract Background According to the United Nations classification of aging societies, China is rapidly transitioning into a moderately aging society, facing significant challenges related to population aging. Concurrently, China is actively implementing the Internet Power Strategy and the Internet Plus action plan, which are profoundly transforming the daily lives of individuals, including their health status. However, research on the impact of internet use on the health of middle-aged and older adults has not reached a consensus. This study aims to investigate the effects of internet use on the health of middle-aged and older adults, as well as the mechanisms and heterogeneity of these effects. Methods This study utilized data from the China General Social Survey conducted in 2018, which includes a sample of 6470 individuals. Self-rated health, mental health, and objective health were used as key health indicators, with internet use identified as the primary independent variable. The study aims to analyze the impact of internet use on the health status of middle-aged and older adults through the application of an ordered probit model and instrumental variable methods. Results The results indicate that internet use has a significant positive impact on the health of middle-aged and older adults, with significance at the 1% level. This finding has passed a series of robustness tests. Mechanism analysis reveals that information acquisition is a crucial mediating mechanism between internet use and the health of middle-aged and older adults. This suggests that increased internet use enhances information access, thereby improving health outcomes. Furthermore, heterogeneity analysis shows that the impact of internet use on health is more pronounced among individuals living in rural areas, western regions, low-income groups, and those aged under 60, compared to their counterparts in urban areas, eastern regions, higher-income brackets, and those aged 60 and above. Conclusion Internet use can improve the health of middle-aged and older adults. Therefore, government departments, senior universities, communities, and families should collaborate to actively conduct digital skills training for older adults. Additionally, efforts should be accelerated to adapt electronic products to be more elder-friendly, helping older adults overcome the digital divide and thereby reducing health inequalities among middle-aged and older groups.

BackgroundWith the exacerbation of population aging, the health issues of middle-aged and older adults have increasingly become a focus of attention. The widespread use of the internet has created conditions for promoting the health of this demographic. However, little is known about the effects of information access in promoting the relationship between internet use and the health of middle-aged and older adults. ObjectiveThis study aims to examine the relationship between internet use and multidimensional health in middle-aged and older adults, as well as the mediating effect of information access. Moreover, this study will explore the relationship between other dimensions of internet use (purposes and frequency) and health. MethodsData were sourced from the China General Social Survey conducted in 2018. Health outcomes, including self-rated, physical, and mental health, were assessed using the 5-level self-rated health scale, the 5-level basic activities of daily living scale, and the 5-level depression scale, respectively. The ordinal logistic regression model was used to examine the relationship between internet use and health among middle-aged and older adults. Additionally, the Karlson-Holm-Breen decomposition method was used to examine the mediation effect of information access. To address endogeneity issues, the two-stage least squares approach was applied. ResultsIn our sample, nearly half (n=3036, 46.3%) of the respondents use the internet. Purpose: To evaluate the myopia risk in school-aged children one year after lifting a pandemic-related lockdown and develop a tool to identify high-risk groups. Methods: In total, 38,079 children without myopia from 38 schools were included. The outcomes were myopia incidence and progression in 1 year after the COVID-19 lockdown was lifted, both obtained by the spherical equivalent refraction (SER). We separated the population into an exploratory (75%) and a validation sample (25%) to construct the risk score model. Results: In total, 9811 (29.57%) students became myopic, and the overall myopia progression was 0.22 ± 0.62 D. Even less myopia progression was noted in the pre-myopia group at baseline (All: P = 0.045, Boy: P = 0.005). The risk score model included seven predictors: gender, grade, SER at baseline, residence, parental myopia, eye discomfort symptoms, and online courses. The model had a score range of 0–46 and an optimal cutoff of 34. The area under the receiver operating curve of the model was 0.726 (0.719–0.732) for the exploratory sample and 0.731 (0.720–0.742) for the validation sample. Conclusions: The risk score can serve as a practical tool for classifying the risk of myopia in school-aged children.

Abstract Crystal-field perturbation is theoretically the most direct and effective method of achieving highly efficient photoluminescence from trivalent lanthanide (Ln3+) ions through breaking the parity-forbidden nature of their 4f-transitions. However, exerting such crystal-field perturbation remains an arduous task even in well-developed Ln3+-doped luminescent nanocrystals (NCs). Herein, we report crystal-field perturbation through interstitial H+-doping in orthorhombic-phase NaMgF3:Ln3+ NCs and achieve a three-orders-of-magnitude emission amplification without a distinct lattice distortion. Mechanistic studies reveal that the interstitial H+ ions perturb the local charge density distribution, leading to anisotropic polarization of the F− ligand, which affects the highly symmetric Ln3+-substituted [MgF6]4− octahedral clusters. This effectively alleviates the parity-forbidden selective rule to enhance the 4f–4 f radiative transition rate of the Ln3+ emitter and is directly corroborated by the apparent shortening of the radiative recombination lifetime. The interstitially H+-doped NaMgF3:Yb/Er NCs are successfully used as bioimaging agents for real-time vascular imaging. These findings provide concrete evidence for crystal-field perturbation effects and promote the design of Ln3+-doped luminescent NCs with high brightness.

The severe global warming issue currently threatens humans' existence and development. Countries and international organizations have effectively implemented policies to reduce carbon emissions and investigate low-carbon growth strategies. Reducing carbon emissions is a hot topic that academics and government policy-making departments are concerned about.Through necessary condition analysis (NCA) and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis(fsQCA), this paper investigates local governments' configuration linkage effect and path choice to improve carbon emission performance from six dimensions: energy consumption, industrial structure, technological innovation, government support, economic development, and demographic factors. The research findings include the following: (1) Individual condition does not represent necessary conditions for the government's carbon performance. Among the two sets of second-order equivalence configurations(S and Q) (five high-level carbon performance configurations), those dominated by economic development or low energy consumption can produce high-level carbon performance. Therefore, the six antecedent conditions dimensions work together to explain how the government can create high levels of carbon performance. (2)According to the regional comparison, China's eastern, central, and western regions exhibit similarities and differences in the driving forces behind high carbon emission performance. All three regions can demonstrate carbon emission performance when all the factors are combined. However, when constrained by the conditions of each region's resource endowment, the eastern region emphasizes the advantage of economic and technological innovation, the central region favors government support and demographic factors, and the western region prefers upgrading industrial structure based on a specific level of economic development.

This study aimed to obtain a high yield and purity of Sargassum pallidum polyphenol extracts (SPPE) and study its enzyme activity. Fresh Sargassum pallidum seaweed was selected for optimization of ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) conditions and purification conditions using macroporous resin and Sephadex LH20 to obtain SPPE. The SPPE was characterized using UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS and α-amylase, α-glucosidase, tyrosinase, and AchE inhibitory activity were determined. The maximum extraction rate of SPPE was 7.56 mg GAE/g and the polyphenol purity reached 70.5% after macroporous resin and Sephadex LH-20 purification. A total of 50 compounds were identified by UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS. The IC50 values of SPPE were 334.9 μg/mL, 6.290 μg /mL, 0.834 mg /mL and 0.6538 mg /mL for α-amylase, α-glucosidase, tyrosinase and AchE, respectively. Molecular docking technology further revealed the effects of SPPE on the above enzymes. This study provided information on the potential hypoglycemic, whitening and anti-Alzheimer's disease biological activities of SPPE, which had guiding significance for the purification and development of other seaweed polyphenols.

ObjectiveTo investigate the distribution of bone density in the subchondral bone tissue of the knee joint due to the mechanical stress load generated by judo, the bone tissue volume of different densities and the bone remodeling characteristics of the subchondral bone of the knee joint.MethodsCT imaging data of the knee joint were collected from 15 healthy individuals as controls and 15 elite judo athletes. Firstly, they were processed by the CTOAM technique, and secondly, the distribution pattern of high-density areas of the knee joint was localized using nine anatomical regions. In addition, three tomographic images were selected in the sagittal, coronal, and axial 2D image windows to observe the distribution of different densities of bone tissue. Finally, the percentage of bone tissue volume (%BTV) and bone remodeling trend of bone tissues with different densities were determined.ResultsIn this study, high-density areas were found in the 4th, 5th, and 6th regions of the articular surface of the distal femur and the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th regions of the tibial plateau in judo athletes; the distribution of high-density areas on the articular surface of the distal femur in control subjects was similar with judo athletes, and high-density areas were mainly found in the 4th and 5th regions of the tibial plateau. The %BTV of low (401-500HU in the distal femur; 301-400 HU and 401-500HU in the tibial plateau), moderate, and high bone density was higher in judo athletes than in controls in the subchondral bone of the distal femur and tibial plateau (P< 0.05).ConclusionThe history of compressive stresses, struck stresses, soft tissue tension and pull, self-gravity and intra-articular stress loading generated by the lower limb exercise technique of judo leads to specific forms of stress distribution and bone tissue remodeling in the subchondral bone tissue within the distal femur and tibia plateau.

Objectives: Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a serious mental disorder, and there is a great difficulty to diagnose and treat. Hitherto, relatively few studies have explored the correlation between the levels of plasma cell adhesion molecules and MDD.Methods: Thirty outpatients with acute episodes of MDD in Shanghai Mental Health Center and 34 healthy volunteers from the community were recruited as subjects. Protein microarray technology was applied to compared the differences in plasma levels of 17 kinds of adhesion molecular proteins between the two groups. Meanwhile, the diagnostic value of different proteins in depression was discussed by using the receiver operating characteristic curve.Results: The levels of Carcinoembryonic Antigen Related Cell Adhesion Molecule-1(CEACAM-1) and Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule (NrCAM) in MDD patients were significantly higher than those in healthy controls (P < 0.05). The area under ROC curve of CEACAM-1 combined with NrCAM was 0.723, with the sensitivity 0.800 and the specificity 0.676.Conclusion: The plasma levels of CEACAM-1 and NrCAM were significantly up-regulated in MDD, and their combined application was of potential diagnostic value, deserving to expand the sample size for further verification.

Diabetes mellitus is associated with a high risk of hindlimb ischemia (HLI) progression and an inevitably poor prognosis, including worse limb salvage and mortality. Skeletal muscle cells can secrete angiogenic factors, which could promote neovascularization and blood perfusion recovery. Thus, paracrine function of skeletal muscle cells, which is aberrant in diabetic conditions, is crucial for therapeutic angiogenesis in diabetic HLI. Dapagliflozin is a well-known anti-hyperglycemia and anti-obesity drug; however, its role in therapeutic angiogenesis is unknown. Herein, we found that dapagliflozin could act as an angiogenesis stimulator in diabetic HLI. We showed that dapagliflozin enhances the viability, proliferation, and migration potentials of skeletal muscle cells and promotes the secretion of multiple angiogenic factors from skeletal muscle cells, most plausibly through PHD2/HIF-1α axis. Furthermore, we demonstrated that conditioned medium from dapagliflozin-treated skeletal muscle cells enhances the proliferation and migration potentials of vascular endothelial and smooth muscle cells, which are two fundamental cells of functional mature vessels. Finally, an in vivo study demonstrated that intramuscular administration of dapagliflozin effectively enhances the formation of mature blood vessels and, subsequently, blood perfusion recovery in diabetic HLI mice. Hence, our results suggest a novel function of dapagliflozin as a potential therapeutic angiogenesis agent for diabetic HLI.

Abstract Trivalent lanthanide (Ln3+)‐doped hollow upconversion nanocrystals (UCNCs) usually exhibit unique optical performance that cannot be realized in their solid counterparts, and thus have been receiving tremendous interest from their fundamentals to diverse applications. However, all currently available Ln3+‐doped UCNCs are solid in appearance, the preparation of hollow UCNCs remains nearly untouched hitherto. Herein, a class of UCNCs based on Yb3+/Er3+‐doped tetralithium zirconium octafluoride (Li4ZrF8:Yb/Er) featuring 2D layered crystal lattice is reported, which makes the fabrication of hollow UCNCs with a peasecod‐like shape possible after Ln3+ doping. By employing the first‐principle calculations, the unique peasecod‐like hollow nanoarchitecture primarily associated with the hetero‐valence Yb3+/Er3+ doping into the 2D layered crystal lattice of Li4ZrF8 matrix is revealed. Benefiting from this hollow nanoarchitecture, the resulting Li4ZrF8:Yb/Er UCNCs exhibit an abnormal green upconversion luminescence in terms of the population ratio between two thermally coupled states (2H11/2 and 4S3/2) of Er3+ relative to their solid Li2ZrF6:Yb/Er counterparts, thereby allowing to prepare the first family of hollow Ln3+‐doped UCNCs as supersensitive luminescent nanothermometer with almost the widest temperature sensing range (123–800 K). These findings described here unambiguously pave a new way to fabricate hollow Ln3+‐doped UCNCs for numerous applications.

As one of the most severe manifestations of diabetes, vascular complications are the main causes of diabetes-related morbidity and mortality. Hyperglycemia induces systemic abnormalities, including impaired angiogenesis, causing diabetic patients to be highly susceptible in suffering hindlimb ischemia (HLI). Despite its severe prognosis, there is currently no effective treatment for diabetic HLI. Skeletal muscle cells secrete multiple angiogenic factors, hence, recently are reported to be critical for angiogenesis; however, hyperglycemia disrupted the paracrine function in skeletal muscle cells, leading to the impaired angiogenesis potential observed in diabetic patients. The present study showed that tyrosol, a phenylethanoid compound, suppresses accumulation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) caused by hyperglycemia, most plausibly by promoting heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression in skeletal muscle cells. Consequently, tyrosol exerts cytoprotective function against hyperglycemia-induced oxidative stress in skeletal muscle cells, increases their proliferation vigorously, and simultaneously suppresses apoptosis. Furthermore, tyrosol grossly increases the secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) and platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) from skeletal muscle cells. This leads to enhanced proliferation and migration capabilities of vascular endothelial and smooth muscle cells, two types of cells that are responsible in forming blood vessels, through cell-cell communication. Finally, in vivo experiment using the diabetic HLI mouse model showed that tyrosol injection into the gastrocnemius muscle of the ischemic hindlimb significantly enhances the formation of functional blood vessels and subsequently leads to significant recovery of blood perfusion. Overall, our findings highlight the potential of the pharmacological application of tyrosol as a small molecule drug for therapeutic angiogenesis in diabetic HLI patients.

New concepts of generalized (ρ,θ)-η invex functions for non-differentiable functions and generalized (ρ,θ)-η invariant monotone operators for set-valued mappings are introduced. The relationships between generalized (ρ,θ)-η invexity of functions and generalized (ρ,θ)-η invariant monotonicity of the corresponding Clarke's subdifferentials are studied. Some of our results are extension and improvement of some results obtained in (Jabarootion and Zafarani (2006); Behera et al. (2008)).
