[Objective] The study aims to explore the growth and physiological response of Canavalia maritima seedlings to water stress, and provide a reference for water management during the seedling stage and for the cultivation of high-quality plants in coastal sandy lands. [Methods] One-year-old C. maritima seedlings were subjected to simulated drought stress (soil relative water content at 20%, 40%, and 60%), suitable water condition (80%, control), and waterlogging (100%) with water control experiment in pots. Their growth and physiological indices were analyzed. [Results] Under both drought and waterlogging stress, leaf dry weight was decreased, while leaf relative water content was increased. Seedling height and leaf area were increased under waterlogging but decreased under severe drought stress. Total root length, total root surface area, total root volume, and mean root diameter were increased under drought stress and decreased under waterlogging. The content of malondialdehyde and the activities of catalase (CAT) and peroxidase (POD) were increased, while the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) was relatively stable. Soluble protein content was decreased, whereas soluble sugar and proline contents were increased under water stress. The chlorophyll content was decreased under severe drought stress. Initial fluorescence was increased, while maximum fluorescence, maximum photochemical efficiency, and maximum quantum yield were decreased under water stress. [Conclusion] C. maritima seedlings demonstrate strong tolerance to drought and waterlogging stress by altering water accumulation and distribution patterns, increasing the activities of CAT and POD, and enhancing soluble sugar and proline contents.

Research identifying the core features of Growth Mindset Pedagogy (GMP) in Chinese mathematics education is limited. This is also the first time we have examined the barriers to implementing GMP. We used semi-structured interviews to collect data. By analyzing the interview data, we identified four core features of GMP in mathematics classrooms: differentiation as the foundation of pedagogical practice, no stereotypes about mathematics learning, encouraging students to think in a process-oriented manner, and promoting a persistent learning attitude. We also found five barriers to GMP implementation: (a) lack of professional support; (b) lack of time; (c) student differences and class size; (d) ignoring cultural contextual elements; and (e) poor partnership between parents and teachers. In our discussion section, we outlined the implications of these findings for research and practice in educational contexts.

Objective To analyze the survival status of inpatients with cervical cancer registered in Nantong admitted in Nantong Cancer Hospital from 2002 to 2017. Methods Inpatients with cervical cancer in Nantong Cancer Hospital were followed up from 2017 until December 31, 2020 using active and passive methods to determine their survival outcome. The rate of follow-up loss was statistically analyzed by Chi-square test, the observed survival rate for each year was calculated using the life table, the survival curve was drawn with R language, and the survival rates of patients in different age groups and from different regions were compared with log-rank test (Mantel-Cox). Results A total of 5645 cervical cancer cases were registered. Among them, the survival outcome was recorded for 5512 cases. The success rate of follow-up was 97.64%, and the loss of follow-up rate was 2.36%. The average age of onset was 56.67±12.78 years. The median survival time was 6.54 years, and the 1-, 3-, 5-, and 10-year observed survival rates were 91.50%, 76.95%, 60.99%, and 28.51%, respectively. Among the age groups, significant differences in survival rate were observed between the 15- and 60-year-old groups (χ2=7.469, P=0.006) and between the 15- and 80-year-old groups (χ2=36.317, P < 0.001). No significant difference in survival rate was found between patients from Haimen and Qidong (χ2=2.779, P=0.095) and between patients from Qidong and Tongzhou (χ2=0.515, P=0.473). Significant difference in survival rate was observed among other regions (P < 0.05). Conclusion In this study group, the survival rates of hospital-based patients with cervical cancer significantly differ among the age groups and regions of origin and significantly decreased with age. The high follow-up rate fully reflects the comprehensive effect of the treatment in Nantong Cancer Hospital for registered patients with cervical cancer in Nantong.

Abstract In recent years, the two-dimensional (2D) semiconductor α-In2Se3 has great potential for applications in the fields of electronics and optoelectronics due to its spontaneous iron electrolysis properties. Through ab initio electronic structure calculations and quantum transport simulations, the interface properties and transport properties of α-In2Se3/Au contacts with different polarization directions are studied, and a two-dimensional α-In2Se3 asymmetric metal contact design is proposed. When α-In2Se3 is polarized upward, it forms an n-type Schottky contact with Au. While when α-In2Se3 is polarized downward, it forms a p-type Schottky contact with Au. More importantly, significant rectification effect is found in the asymmetric Au/α-In2Se3/Au field-effect transistor. The carrier transports under positive and negative bias voltages are found to be dominated by thermionic excitation and tunneling, respectively. These findings provide guidance for the further design of 2D α-In2Se3-based transistors.

The New What Is Happening In this Class questionnaire (NWIHIC) was constructed based on Moos's scheme for human environments. The sample consisted of 2280 students from elementary and secondary schools (grades 5-9). The data were analyzed using SPSS26 and AMOS software version 25. Principal components factor analysis with oblique rotation, as well as convergent and discriminant validity analyses, revealed a strong structure of the questionnaire (X[superscript 2] = 3104.307; X[superscript 2]/dƒ = 2.69; RMR = 0.038; RMSEA = 0.027; GFI = 0.947; AGFI = 0.937; NFI = 0.956; TLI = 0.968; IFI = 0.972; CFI = 0.972). As a result, eight factors emerged: student cohesiveness, teacher support, involvement, task orientation, cooperation, equity, differentiated instruction, and ongoing assessment. Moreover, significant gender and grade differences were also found.

Conclusion: The results of our study suggest that CRP may not directly mediate ulcerative colitis. Instead, it is more likely to be a bystander that is present alongside with elevated inflammatory factors. Further investigation is warranted to determine the precise role of CRP in humans, given the significant limitations associated with the use of mouse models.

Background and purpose: The response rate of gastric cancer patients to programmed death-1 (PD-1) inhibitor is relatively low. Establishing a useful efficacy prediction method to screen the superior gastric cancer patients receiving anti-PD-1 therapy could improve the prognosis of patients. This study aimed to explore the value of combined detection of lactate dehydrogenase (LDHA) and programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) expressions in predicting the efficacy and prognosis of gastric cancer patients treated with PD-1 inhibitor. Methods: The clinicopathological data of 50 advanced gastric cancer patients treated with PD-1 inhibitor in The First Affiliated Hospital of Wannan Medical College from January 2020 to March 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. The independent risk factors affecting the efficacy of PD-1 inhibitor were analyzed by multivariate logistic regression. The value of combined detection of LDHA and PD-L1 in predicting the efficacy of PD-1 inhibitors in gastric cancer was analyzed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Gastric cancer patient survival was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier method. Results: The objective response rate (ORR) of gastric cancer patients receiving PD-1 inhibitor therapy in LDHA low and high expression groups were 59% and 10%, respectively. Penthorum chinense has been used in both food and medication for many years, and polysaccharide of which was considered as one of the bioactive compounds. However, the extraction process of polysaccharide from P. chinense (PCP) was not well optimized. Ultrasound-assisted extractionhas been widely employed in the extraction of natural products for its compliance with the concept of green and economic chemistry. To better investigate the structure and biology activity of PCP, response surface methodology was employed to optimize the ultrasound-assisted extraction conditions of PCP. The optimum extraction for the ultrasound-assisted extraction of PCP were obtained as ratio of solvent to material 40 mL/g, ultrasonic power 380 W, and extraction time of 50 min. The yield of PCP reached 8.71% under these optimized conditions. PCP was further purified by using anion exchange chromatography and gel filtration, an acidic fraction PCP-AP-1 was hereby obtained. The results of structural elucidation indicated that PCP-AP-1 was a typical pectic polysaccharide with a molecular weight of 66360 Da, mainly composed of galacturonic acid (68.5 mol%), followed by arabinose (9.8 mol%), rhamnose (9.4 mol%), glucose (7.7 mol%), with homogalacturonan region and rhamnogalacturonan I regions. In vitro study showed that PCP-AP-1 could improve the inflammation induced by lipopolysaccharide in intestinal epithelial cells, which was probably performed through the inhibition of multiple signaling pathways including the inhibition of TLR4, NOD1/2 and NF-κB pathway, as well as the reduction of NLRP3 inflammasome. This study defined the type of polysaccharide present in P. chinense and revealed a potential of application this plant in the prevention of intestinal inflammatory diseases.
