Abstract The movement of water into soil is the primary driving force in nutrient transport for crops, and the laws governing this movement can be affected by crop roots and plough pans. The main objectives of this study were to monitor the movement of water during rain along a soil profile influenced by soybean roots and a plough pan and to assess whether these factors influenced the efficacy of using the Richards equation to simulate the transport of soil water along a profile associated with a single rain. Experiments and model simulations were carried out. Our results suggested that the soybean field soil may have had preferential flow paths. Soybean stems and leaves transferred rainwater that otherwise would have fallen farther from the central stalk. The transmission of rainwater by the branches and leaves had a larger effect than the interception of rainwater by the branches and leaves. The effect of the root system on the soil particles may increase soil capillary action and ultimately increase saturated hydraulic conductivity. Saturated hydraulic conductivity was higher near the surface than at depth, because the transmission of water by the root system and the effect of large gaps were greater in the soil near the surface. Saturated hydraulic conductivity for both bare land and land covered with soybean plants decreased linearly from depths of 0–15 cm along the soil profile, particularly in the presence of a plough pan. We developed a linear equation to represent the variation in saturated hydraulic conductivity in the 0–15-cm layer in the black soil area of northeastern China. Using our linear model for saturated hydraulic conductivity as a parameter, the Richards equation more accurately simulated soil water transport along a profile influenced by soybean roots and a plough pan in rainy conditions.

Drinking groundwater contamination by pathogenic viruses represents a serious risk to worldwide public health, particularly for enteric viruses, which exhibit high prevalence and occurrence during outbreaks. Understanding how enteric viruses adsorb in groundwater is essential to protecting human health and ensuring the sustainable use of water resources. The adsorption properties of Coxsackievirus A16 (CA16), a common gastrointestinal virus that spreads through groundwater, were investigated in this work. A typical batch equilibrium approach was used to investigate CA16 adsorption and factors that influence it. In a laboratory recognized nationally as a biosafety level 2 facility, stringent research protocols were followed to guarantee compliance with experimental standards. The variables that were investigated included the size of the sediment particles, the starting concentration of the virus, temperature, pH level, and humic acid content. The findings showed that the CA16 virus was more strongly attracted to finer sediment particles and that its adsorption increased as the size of the sediment particle decreased. Furthermore, it was discovered that higher temperatures improved the CA16 virus's ability to bind to sediment particles. The pH of the aqueous environment has a significant effect on the effectiveness of virus adsorption; higher effectiveness was seen in acidic environments. Furthermore, it was found that the presence of humic acid decreased the ability of clay to adsorb CA16, suggesting that humic acid has a detrimental influence on clay's ability to adsorb viruses. The examination of kinetic models demonstrated that, in every scenario examined, the adsorption process of CA16 adhered to the pseudo-second-order kinetics model. Additionally, the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models were used to assess the equilibrium data that were collected in this investigation. The outcomes amply proved that the most accurate representation of the adsorption equilibrium was given by the Langmuir isotherm model. Abstract: We report here the first successful effort to synthesize stable Ti50Zr50 binary nano-composite of grain size about 7.6nm by the roller vibration milling with a batch volume about 170g at room temperature. The composite remains the basic hexagonal feature, but the axial ratio is much smaller than that of the ideal hexagonal close-packed structure and the standard value of Ti and Zr. The alloying process contains plastic deformation, grain size reduction, particle implantation, and atomic diffusion and permeation. It is the Zr size reduction created reactivity that promotes the particle implantation. The plastic pre-deformation of Ti provides the matrix and guarantee for the reaction. Surface chemical change analysis reveals that the mechanical property, biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, and the wear resistance of the materials may increase as used in orthopedic applications.
