Purpose: To investigate the resistance of an implant crown telescopically engaged to a geometrically defined hexagonal abutment with and without cement under compressive dynamic cyclic fatigue loading. Materials and Methods: 40 crowns, 9 mm in height, were cast from prefabricated plastic copings, each telescopically engaged to a 3-mm-high machined hexagonal abutment. 20 crowns were retained with zinc phosphate cement, and 20 crowns were retained with a screw. A vertical load of 15 kg was applied to all samples under oscilla)on. A Periotest was used to measure the mobility of the implant crown in Periotest values (PTV). Test endpoints were defined by the following: fa)gue cycles ≥ 20 million; crown PTV > 10; or if samples became visibly loose or component fracture. Results: Cement-retained crowns failed on average at 2.60 x 106 cycles ± 2.27, while screw-retained crown samples failed at 2.17 x 106 cycles ± 1.27 with no significant difference (P > .05). Implant and abutment screw fractures were the most prevalent mode of failure in the cement-retained group, while in the screw-retained group, failures were caused by the loosening of one or both screw joints. The rate of increase in PTV was higher in the screw-retained group than in the cement-retained group. Conclusions: Under the experimental condi)ons, an implant crown telescopically engaged ver)cally to a 3-mm-tall hexagonal abutment, under compressive dynamic cyclic fa)gue loading with or without cement, demonstrated no differences in resistance or failure outcomes. Purpose: To evaluate the fracture-behavior of monolithic crowns made of lithium disilicate (IPS e.max CAD, Ivoclar Vivadent; IniBal LiSi Block, GC Dental) and zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate (Celtra Duo, DeguDent; VITA Zahnfabrik) materials before and aKer cyclic faBgue aging. Materials and Methods: Four groups (n = 22/group) of CAD/CAM fabricated upper incisor crowns were produced. All crowns were luted on metal dies with an adhesive dualcure resin cement (G-CEM LinkForce, GC Dental). Half of the crowns in each group (n = 11) were staBcally loaded unBl fracture, without aging. The remaining crowns were subjected to cyclic faBgue aging for 120,000 cycles (Fmax = 220 N) and then loaded staBcally unBl fracture. The fractured models were then visually examined. Scanning electron microsopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were used to evaluate the microstructure of CAD/CAM ceramic materials. The data were staBsBcally analyzed with two-way ANOVA followed by the Tukey HSD test (a = .05). Results: Before cyclic aging, there was no staBsBcally significant difference in load-bearing capacity among the four groups (P = .371). AKer cyclic aging, load-bearing capacity significantly decreased for all groups (P = .000). While the e.max CAD blocks had significantly higher load-bearing capacity (1061 ± 94 N) than both monolithic ceramic crowns (load-bearing capaciBes of the groups) (P < .05), no significant difference was obtained with the IniBal LiSi Block group (920 ± 140 N) (P = .061). The stress state of the primary circuit main pipeline is very complex mixed constant stress and periodic cyclic stress during the operation of nuclear power plants, which often affects the failure behavior of the stainless steel (SS) pipe. The fatigue behavior of 304LN SS under mixed constant stress and cyclic stress was investigated, and it was found that the coupling effect of constant stress and cyclic stress has a significant collaborative acceleration on the fatigue behavior. The research results showed that the cracks in the 304LN SS did not propagate even after 78 days under both constant load conditions of 5 KN and 7.5 KN, while the crack growth rate (CGR) of the specimen increased by about an order of magnitude when coupled with a cyclic fatigue load. The fatigue life of 304LN SS was the longest under 200 °C high-temperature water, and its life was roughly the same under 250 °C and 300 °C water. In a 300 °C high-temperature water environment, the fatigue life under the coupling of constant stress and cyclic fatigue stress is significantly lower than that under symmetric cyclic stress alone. There is a synergistic acceleration effect on the fatigue life of 304LN SS when constant stress is coupled with periodic cyclic stress, which is attributed to the combined effect of a corrosion environment and mechanical factors. The aim of this study was to compare of four different nickel‐titanium (Ni‐Ti) endodontic files and evaluate in terms of cyclic fatigue resistance and metallurgical properties. Four different type Ni‐Ti root canal files Protaper Next X2 (PTN) (Dentsply Maillefer, Ballaigues, Switzerland), One Curve (OC) #25.06 (Micro Mega, Besancon, France), EndoPlus Flex Plus Gold X2 (EPG) (Turkuaz Dental, Denizli, Turkey), and EndoPlus Flex Plus Blue #25.06 (EPB) (Turkuaz Dental, Denizli, Turkey) files were tested for cyclic fatigue resistance (n = 20). During experiments artificial zirconia block canal was used. The artificial canal designed with curvature 60° and 5‐mm radius. The number of cyclic to fracture (NCF) was noted. Fractured length (FL) parts of Ni‐Ti files were recorded to assessment of fracture volumetric point. All fractured surfaces of Ni‐Ti files were assessed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) to confirm the type of fractures. Descriptive evaluation become accomplished for the fundamental composition of units with the aid of using energy‐dispersive x‐ray spectroscopy (EDX). NCF data were evaluated via Bonferroni test with post hoc multiple comparison method. OC showed the highest NCF values (p <.05). The standardization of the study was confirmed as the FL of files was statistically similar in length (p >.05). SEM analysis confirmed that all scanned samples were fractured due to cyclic fatigue. EDX analysis confirmed that EPB established the poorest Ni content file. ABSTRACT Nonpersistent joints are prevalent in engineering rock masses and are sensitive to cyclic loads induced by geological movements and engineering disturbances. Therefore, studying the fatigue mechanisms of rock masses with nonpersistent joints under cyclic compressive loads is crucial for ensuring the rational design and long‐term stability of rock engineering structures. Based on laboratory experiments, this study employed the discrete element method to create specimens with different nonpersistent joints, and uniaxial compressive cyclic loading tests were conducted on these specimens with different maximum cyclic stress levels. The results show that the joint inclination significantly affects the characteristics of jointed rock, such as deformation modulus, irreversible strain, energy evolution, and crack characteristics. Increasing the maximum stress in the stress path results in a rapid release of hysteretic energy in the jointed regions of the rock, which leads to an exponential decrease in fatigue life while an increase in initial irreversible strain, final irreversible strain, and hysteretic energy density. Additionally, the shear fracture zones on both sides of the model expand, and the propagation and merging of cracks between joints become more extensive and complex. This paper presents research aimed at laboratory experiments on static and cyclic fatigue testing of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) recovered from post-consumer waste in order to develop a recycled product exhibiting satisfactory mechanical and thermo-mechanical properties. The results of the cyclic fatigue tests set up to 80% of the maximum load in static tensile testing demonstrated satisfactory functionality of the recycled material developed by using the injection molding process. There was no significant change in the tensile strength under static and cyclic fatigue tests. Under cyclic loading, there was a quasi-static effect manifested by plastic deformation, and the displacement increased significantly. The static and cyclic tensile tests indicated improvement in the mechanical performance of the recycled LDPE as compared to the virgin material, owing to the high quality of the regranulates. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) was conducted to analyze the functional groups in virgin and recycled LDPE samples. The analysis showed no significant change in the transmittance spectra. The thermal degradation performance was also analyzed by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA). Background/Aim. The most important moment in modern endodontics is the inclusion of rotating instruments made of nickel-titanium alloy in daily clinical work, which have supplanted stainless steel instruments due to their superior properties. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of autoclave sterilization on cyclic fatigue (CF) in two types of rotating instruments produced by M-wire technology with different types of rotation. Methods. This research included two types of M-wire rotary instruments -- 48 ProTaper Next® instruments with full rotation and 48 WaveOne® Gold instruments with reciprocating rotation. Each of the two groups of instruments was divided into four additional groups of 12 instruments depending on the number of cycles of sterilization in the autoclave. The instruments were tested in an artificial canal with a 2 and 5 mm radius of curvature. Results. Statistically significantly higher resistance to CF was observed with WaveOne® Gold compared to ProTaper Next® (p < 0.001) instruments, both in the non-sterilized group and after their exposure to the first, third, and fifth cycle of sterilization. The third and fifth cycle of sterilization significantly reduced resistance to CF in the WaveOne® Gold (p < 0.001) group. There was no statistically significant difference in CF resistance between sterilized and non-sterilized instruments of the ProTaper Next® group. Conclusion. Glass fibre-reinforced polymer (GFRP) is a suitable substrate material for constructing a Conformal Load-Bearing Antenna Structure (CLAS). The relative permittivity of the CLAS substrate, which determines its resonant frequency, is affected by damage sustained by GFRP. This paper investigates the effects of damage (induced by mechanically loading the substrate) on the resonant response of the CLAS. Decoupling the antenna from the substrate was essential to evaluate the CLAS's true response to the induced damage. This paper details a systematic investigation examining how the frequency response of a "pristine" antenna and a surface-mounted antenna respond to a substrate subjected to quasi-statically induced mechanical damage and cyclic fatigue loading. The results demonstrate that the resonant frequency of the CLAS varies as a function of the substrate's mechanical damage. Background: Rotary Ni-Ti files are susceptible to sudden intra-canal separation due to cyclic fatigue stress, particularly in curved canals. To increase resistance to cyclic fatigue, new heat-treated files have been introduced. This study aimed to compare the performance of four heat-treated Ni-Ti files in two simulated curved root canals by evaluating the effect of the alloy, rotation speed, and diameter of the files on their resistance to cyclic fatigue. Methods: The Ni-Ti files included in the study were the ProTaper Gold® (Dentsply Sirona) F2, ProTaper Ultimate® (Dentsply Sirona) F2, FQ® (Komet) 25.06, and Blueshaper® (Zarc4Endo) Z4 25.06. Two groups of 30 files were selected for each system and were tested in two simulated canals milled in a specific metal template. One group was tested in a 60° curved canal and the other in a 90° curved canal. Results: In the 60° simulated canal, there were no instrument fractures within the 15 min time limit. In the 90° simulated canal, the Blueshaper Z4 demonstrated a lower resistance to cyclic fatigue, while FQ 25.06 showed statistically higher fatigue resistance based on both the Kruskal–Wallis and Games–Howell tests (p < 0.05). Conclusions: No differences were found between files when tested in a 60° curved canal for up to 15 min. However, in a 90° canal, the FQ® files showed significantly higher resistance to cyclic fatigue, especially compared to the Blueshaper® Z4. The ProTaper Ultimate and ProTaper Gold produced intermediate results, with the ProTaper Ultimate F2 slightly outperforming the ProTaper Gold F2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aims to compare the cyclic fatigue resistance of nickel–titanium (NiTi) endodontic instruments, focusing on the impact of various alloy treatments and manufacturing processes across different generations of these instruments; Twenty instrumentation systems from different generations, comprising both continuous and reciprocating motion designs, were tested. Four hundred instruments underwent cyclic fatigue testing using an INSTRON machine, with the time and number of cycles to fracture (NCF) recorded for each instrument. Statistical analyses were performed to compare the fatigue resistance between systems, generations, and motion types; Instruments treated with advanced thermal processing, such as Excalibur, Reciproc Blue, and TruNatomy, demonstrated superior resistance to fracture, whereas systems like Protaper Universal, K3XF, and 2Shape showed the lowest resistance. Reciprocating instruments generally exhibited higher cyclic fatigue resistance than continuously rotating instruments; Technological advancements in NiTi instrument design, especially the implementation of heat-treated alloys, have improved cyclic fatigue resistance, enhancing the safety and efficiency of endodontic treatments. Background: The present in vitro study aimed to evaluate the fatigue behavior of teeth filled with a calcium silicate-based sealer (Bio-C Sealer, BC) or an epoxy resin-based sealer (AH Plus, AH), in bulk or associated with gutta-percha as main core material. Methods: Seventy-two sound human maxillary anterior teeth were initially selected. Sixty of them, were randomly chosen, and had their root canals prepared using nickel-titanium reciprocating instruments, being again randomly assigned to five experimental groups (n = 12): C+ (control + prepared but not filled); BC-B (BC in bulk); BC-GP (BC+ gutta-percha); AP-B (AH in bulk); AP-GP (AH+ gutta-percha). An additional negative control group (C−) was considered (n = 12), consisting only on sound teeth, without preparation and filling. The specimens were submitted to a survival analysis after the cyclic fatigue test. Results: Sound teeth (C−) presented the best fatigue performance (P < 0.05), being similar only to the AP-GP group (P > 0.05). Despite that, all experimental groups showed similar fatigue behavior (P > 0.05) to C+ (BC-B = BC-GP = AP-B = AP-GP = C+). Based on that, it can be seen that the use of gutta-percha, as a main core material, associated with the AH Plus sealer, reestablished the mechanical fatigue performance of endodontically treated teeth comparable to sound teeth, still consisting on the most promising approach to rehabilitate such scenario. Objectives: The objective of the present study was to evaluate the cyclic fatigue strength of clockwise cutting rotary endodontic instruments when subjected to two different kinematics: continuous clockwise rotation and clockwise reciprocation movement under optimum torque reverse (OTR) motion. Methods: New ProTaper Next X1 (n = 20) and X2 (n = 20) instruments were randomly divided into two subgroups (n = 10) based on kinematics (continuous rotation or OTR). The specimens were tested using a custom-made device with a non-tapered stainless-steel artificial canal measuring 19 mm in length, featuring a 6 mm radius and an 86-degree curvature. All instruments were tested with a lubricant at room temperature until a fracture occurred. The time to fracture and the length of the separated fragment were recorded. Subsequently, the fractured instruments were inspected under a scanning electron microscope for signs of cyclic fatigue failure, plastic deformation, and/or crack propagation. The subgroup comparisons for time to fracture and instrument length were performed using the independent samples t-test, with the level of statistical significance set at 0.05. Results: When using OTR movement, the ProTaper Next X1 increased the time to fracture from 52.9 to 125.8 s (p < 0.001), while the ProTaper Next X2 increased from 45.4 to 66.0 s (p < 0.001). No subgroup exhibited plastic deformations, but both showed dimpling marks indicative of cyclic fatigue as the primary mode of failure. Additionally, OTR movement resulted in more metal alloy microcracks. Conclusions: The use of OTR motion extended the lifespan of the tested instruments and resulted in a higher number of metal microcracks. This suggests that OTR motion helped to distribute the mechanical stress more evenly across the instrument, thereby relieving localized tension. Axial micromotion between bone fragments can stimulate callus formation and fracture healing. In this study, we propose a novel mechanically compliant locking plate which achieves up to 0.6 mm of interfragmentary motion as flexures machined into the plate elastically deflect under physiological load. We investigated the biomechanical performance of three compliant plate variations in comparison to rigid control plates with small and large working lengths in a comminuted bridge plating scenario using humeral diaphysis surrogates. Under static axial loading, average interfragmentary motion was 6 times larger at 100 N (0.38 vs. 0.05 mm) and nearly three times larger at 350 N (0.58 vs. 0.2 mm) for compliant plates than rigid plates, respectively. Compliant plates delivered between 2.5 and 3.4 times more symmetric interfragmentary motion than rigid plates (p < 0.01). The bi‐phasic stiffness of compliant pates provided 74%–96% lower initial axial stiffness up to approximately 100 N (p < 0.01), after which compliant plate stiffness was similar to rigid plates with increased working length (p > 0.3). The strength to failure of compliant plates under dynamic loading was on average 48%–55% lower than rigid plate groups (p < 0.01); however, all plates survived cyclic fatigue loading of 100,000 cycles at 350 N. This work characterizes the improvement in interfragmentary motion and the reduction in strength to failure of compliant plates compared to control rigid plates. Compliant plates may offer potential in comminuted fracture healing due to their ability to deliver symmetric interfragmentary motion into the range known to stimulate callus formation while surviving moderate fatigue loading with no signs of failure. This study investigates the mechanical and piezoresistive sensing properties of recycled carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer composites (rCFRPs) for self-sensing applications, which were prepared from recycled carbon fibers (rCFs) with fiber lengths of 6, 12, 18, and 24 mm using a vacuum infusion method. Mechanical properties of the rCFRPs were examined using uniaxial tensile tests, while sensing characteristics were examined by monitoring the in situ electrical resistance under cyclic and low fatigue loads. Longer fibers (24 mm) showed the superior tensile strength (92.6 MPa) and modulus (8.4 GPa), with improvements of 962.1% and 1061.1%, respectively. Shorter fibers (6 mm) demonstrated enhanced sensing capabilities with the highest sensitivity under low fatigue testing (1000 cycles at 10 MPa), showing an average maximum electrical resistance change rate of 0.7315% and a gauge factor of 4.5876. All the composites displayed a stable electrical response under cyclic and low fatigue loadings. These results provide insights into optimizing rCF incorporation, balancing structural integrity with self-sensing capabilities and contributing to the development of sustainable multifunctional materials. This study evaluates the crack performance of stone mastic asphalt (SMA) mixtures according to the performance of a modified asphalt binder, evaluated based on the asphalt performance grade (PG) and the elastic recovery of multiple stress creep and recovery (MSCR) according to AASHTO M 320 and T 350. The cracking performance of the mixture was evaluated using the asphalt mixture performance tester (AMPT) according to AASHTO T 378 and T 400 through dynamic modulus and direct tension cyclic fatigue tests. Furthermore, the recently developed viscoelastic continuum damage (VECD) theory was utilized to evaluate the cyclic fatigue index parameter (apparent damage capacity, Sapp) and the permissible heavy vehicle class. For performance evaluation, six modified asphalt mixtures were prepared and tested using SMA aggregate gradation with a nominal maximum aggregate size (NMAS) of 10 mm. The MSCR test results revealed that, of the six asphalt mixtures, the rubber-based PG76-28 exhibited the least initial strain and the highest elastic recovery. The dynamic modulus test results demonstrated that using a rubber-based modifier increased the elastic modulus at high temperatures and decreased it at low temperatures, thereby enhancing resistance to plastic deformation in the summer and reducing low-temperature cracking in the winter. Finally, the correlation between the Sapp performance index and the elastic recovery of modified asphalt and the number of direct tension cyclic loads until failure of the mixture was evaluated as 0.87 and 0.76, respectively. Nanostructured Y‐TZP samples with Non‐Homogeneous Yttria Distribution (NNHYD) were prepared by mixing co‐precipitated 3Y‐TZP powder (Tosoh TZ‐3Y) with yttria‐free monoclinic powder (Tosoh TZ‐0), yielding an overall yttria content of 2 mol%. The cyclic fatigue behavior of NNHYD was evaluated by Step‐Stress Accelerated Life Testing (SSALT) and mechanical cycling in a biaxial flexural strength test (BFST) setup and compared to Conventional Submicrometric 3Y‐TZP (CS). Physical, structural, microstructural, and mechanical characterizations of all groups were also evaluated and compared before and after artificial aging in autoclave. NNHYD presented a higher capacity for damage accumulation and maintenance of phase transformation potential than CS, associated with elevated resistance to the propagation of Low‐Temperature Degradation (LTD). A nanostructured 3Y‐TZP surface layer introduced in NNHYD by dip coating (DC‐NNHYD) improved resistance to LTD at the cost of reduced reliability under cyclic fatigue by increasing the stability of the tetragonal phase. This surface alteration highlights the impact of surface properties on mechanical performance. The results of this study present practical possibilities to help achieve the ideal balance between strength, toughness, and LTD resistance to improve the lifetime of zirconia‐based biomaterials. Highly polymer-modified (HP) asphalt has been shown to enhance asphalt mixture performance. To evaluate its effectiveness in resisting reflective cracking, this study conducted dynamic modulus tests, cyclic fatigue tests, and overlay tests at three temperatures (4°C, 10°C, and 18°C) and compared the performance of HP mixtures against a control mixture. In addition, digital image correlation (DIC) has been used in the overlay test to capture crack growth. Apart from laboratory tests, simulations were conducted with two overlay thicknesses (3.81 and 7.62 cm) and two sets of climate inputs (isothermal and real) to assess the reflective cracking performance of HP at the structural level. The experimental results demonstrate that despite the selected two mixtures having similar modulus master curves, the HP mixture exhibits better resistance to reflective cracking compared with the control mixture. Specifically, predictions of the number of cycles to failure (Nf) by the simplified viscoelastic continuum damage (S-VECD) model, based on cyclic fatigue tests, indicate that the HP mixture has longer Nf values across all selected temperatures. In overlay tests, at 4°C, the HP mixture shows comparable crack growth to the control mixture, whereas at 10°C and 18°C, the HP mixture demonstrates slower crack propagation. Furthermore, increasing the temperature tends to extend Nf in both the cyclic fatigue test and the overlay test. The structural simulation results indicate that the overlay thickness has a significant impact on the predicted reflective cracking distress. To evaluate structural damage and loosening of abutments placed on narrow diameter implants after cyclic fatigue. Sixty Morse taper narrow diameter implants (Neodent, Brazil) received two types of abutments (1PA- one-piece abutment or 2PA- two-piece abutment), which were randomly divided into 3 fatigue experiments (n = 10). The implants were placed into a customized supporting holder and a software-assisted digital torque wrench secured the manufacturer recommended torque for each abutment. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans were acquired, before and after fatigue, and post-processed (software e-Vol DX) to assess damage and abutment displacement. The boundary fatigue method was adapted to use 2 × 106 cycles, 2 Hz of frequency and constant peak load of 80 N (first experiment) that varied according to the failure rate of previous specimens (second and third experiments). Failure was evaluated using CBCT scans and removal torque values. Data were used to estimate long-term torque degradation, probability of failure and Weibull modulus (software ALTA PRO9). All 2PA specimens became loosen independently of the applied fatigue load, and structural bending was observed in 14 abutments. Eight 1PA got loosen during the fatigue experiment. The Weibull analysis showed a lower modulus (m = 1.0; 0.7, 1.4) for 1PA than for 2PA (m = 2.6; 2, 3.4) resulting in longer predicted lifetimes and slower torque degradation for 1PA than for 2PA specimens. 1PA showed greater long-term survival probability than 2PA. This study aimed to evaluate the dynamic cyclic fatigue resistance of Reciproc Blue files subjected to brushing motion. Twenty Reciproc Blue files (R25, VDW, Munich, Germany) were employed for chemical-mechanical preparation in root canals of 3D printed replicas of mandibular molars. The instruments were divided into two groups (n = 10): Group brushing motion, instrumentation with brushing motions; Group without brushing motion , instrumentation without brushing motions. Subsequently, the same instruments underwent cyclic fatigue testing using artificial canals consisting of a stainless-steel plate and an apical segment with a 45° curvature. Data regarding the time to fracture, number of cycles to fracture, and length of the fractured fragment were collected and subjected to statistical analysis using the t-test or Mann-Whitney test, with a significance level of 5%. Additionally, the fractured fragments were examined under a scanning electron microscope. No statistical differences were observed between the groups in terms of time to fracture (P <.05), number of cycles to fracture (P <.05) and length of the fractured fragment (P <.05). The delamination of encapsulants in photovoltaic (PV) modules is a common issue that leads to power loss due to optical losses. Encapsulant debonding is usually examined under monotonic loading conditions subsequent to environmental exposure such as damp heat. Service‐relevant, superimposed environmental‐mechanical fatigue loads are not considered adequately. Hence, the environmental fatigue delamination resistance of thermally toughened double glass laminates with an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) adhesive layer was investigated in this study. Focus was given to the melting range of EVA, in which the non‐crosslinked crystalline phase fraction is already in the partly molten state. Double cantilever beam specimens were tested on an electrodynamic test machine at temperatures of 60, 70, 80, and 90°C and relative humidity (rh) levels of 2%, 30%, 50%, and 80%. The fractured surfaces were characterized by digital microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The cyclic fatigue tests revealed a decay in delamination resistance at elevated temperature and humidity levels. At 70°C, the delamination resistance was low, regardless of the relative humidity. Most of the laminates failed by debonding. XPS analysis showed a reduction of the C=O and C–O content, along with an increase in Si–O content with increasing relative humidity. For laminates tested at 60 and 70°C, an EVA recrystallization peak was observed in DSC experiments. This peak was shifted to significantly higher temperatures at 80% rh. XPS and DSC indicated local hydrolysis within the porous fracture process zone ahead of the crack tip. Consequently, acetic acid formation led to a decrease in delamination resistance, resulting in lower fatigue threshold values. The investigations confirmed the significant impact of environmental conditions on the fatigue delamination resistance within glass/encapsulant laminates. Fatigue indicator parameters (FIPs) can serve as a measure of fatigue crack initiation (FCI) in metals and alloys. FIPs are volume averaged over grains, bands, and sub bands in crystal plasticity (CP) simulation to investigate the influence of texture on FCI under low cycle fatigue. The equiaxed microstructure of Ti–6Al–4V was generated with three different textures: basal, basal/transverse and transverse. FIPs analysis shows that basal texture has the highest FCI resistance, basal/transverse texture has intermediate resistance, and transverse texture has the lowest resistance when tested along plate direction. All textures exhibit a lower FIP when deformed along rolling direction (RD) than that along transverse direction (TD). The interior of the alloys has a larger FCI resistance than the free surface. Further analysis shows a strong relationship between FIP distribution features and damage nucleation characteristics, with basal texture exhibiting the lowest and wider FIP distributions as a result of high resistance to damage and fatigue cracking; in contrast, the transverse texture exhibits intense and narrow FIP and damage nucleation along the grain boundaries (GBs), basal/transverse texture exhibits FIP and damage nucleation with mixed characteristics. The results can be used as a theatrical reference for the fatigue performance design of Ti alloy.

Abstract This study investigated phytic acid (IP6) effect on chemical, structural, and mechanical characteristics of nickel–titanium (NiTi) files. The tested files were equally divided into groups according to the immersion protocol: sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), IP6, EDTA followed by NaOCl, and IP6 followed by NaOCl. These groups were then compared in terms of Ni, Ti, and chromium (Cr) ions release from the files. Microstructural changes using field emission scanning electron microscope (Fe-SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and surface roughness were analyzed. The mechanical characterization was conducted using cyclic fatigue resistance test. Fractured segments were scanned under SEM. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way ANOVA, Tukey test, Kruskal–Wallis test and Mann–Whitney U test. Introduction. The aim of our study is to comparatively analyze the canal cyclic fatigue resistance of widely used rotary file systems, including EndoArt Touch Gold (ETG), Perfect MTF Plus Gold (PPG), Fanta V‐Taper Gold (FVG), and ProTaper Next (PTN). Methods. Stainless steel canals with a 60° angle and a 3‐mm curvature radius were specially prepared. The canals were shaped with each rotary file system and tested for resistance using a cyclic fatigue testing apparatus. The number of fracture cycles (NFC; K file tip separation) was measured. Data were analysed by one‐way ANOVA and post hoc LSD tests. Results. PTN and PPG rotary file systems exhibited the highest NFC. The NFC value for PTN was 589 ± 63, and for PPG, it was 507 ± 51. Conclusion. The results of this study demonstrate that rotary file systems such as PTN and PPG exhibit higher cyclic fatigue resistance. The rail profile milling process allows considerable thickness to be removed in a single pass. However, the residual waviness formation law after milling and its subsequent effect on rail performance remains uncertain. In this paper, the wavelength and wave height of the residual waviness are identified as the key characteristics. The relationship between milling speed and residual waviness is determined, and a numerical model of the residual waviness formed on the surface after milling is established based on the commonly used three milling speeds of 300, 600, and 1000 m/h, and its accuracy is verified using the parameters of the residual waviness detected by the milling experiments. A three-dimensional finite element analysis model of wheel-rail contact was employed to analyze the contact stresses and low fatigue cycles at a wheel load of 11.5 tons with no residual waviness on the rail profile surface and with three types of residual waviness, respectively. The results show that the residual waviness changes the wheel-rail contact position and the morphology of the contact area, reduces the maximum contact stress and increases the strain fatigue cycles. The application of elevated milling speeds reduces the wheel-rail contact stresses after milling, thereby increasing the low fatigue cycles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

More and more often, semi‐precast reinforced concrete slabs with lattice girders are employed for industrial buildings or bridges, where they are exposed to high cycle fatigue loading. Despite research in recent years that has led to the formulation of an S–N curve for lattice girders, the effects of cyclic loading on semi‐precast slabs have not yet been sufficiently clarified. Moreover, research has so far been limited to single‐span slabs. The effects of continuous slab systems, which are mainly realized in buildings and bridges, cannot be considered in the calculation of fatigue resistance yet. To improve the fatigue design concept for shear and interface shear, theoretical and experimental investigations were conducted at the Institute of Structural Concrete, RWTH Aachen University. In addition to the fatigue behavior of 16 tests under cyclic loading, particular attention is paid to the increase in shear and interface shear resistance at the inner support of continuous slabs. Full-scale axial load tests were performed on five screw injection piles founded in medium-dense to dense sand at a site in Delft, the Netherlands. Each pile was instrumented with distributed fiber-optic sensors along its full length, giving detailed insights into the shaft and base response under compression loading. The paper focuses on the pile base response and combines the test results with a newly compiled database of instrumented load tests on screw displacement piles in sand. Given the range of screw displacement piles on the market, the influence of different installation methods and pile geometries on the base resistance can be assessed through the database. In summary, the analysis showed that all screw displacement pile types tended to mobilize base capacities similar to bored or nondisplacement piles. The present study examined the four‐point bending fatigue properties of glass with an initial crack and residual stress induced by Vickers indentation. The fatigue properties of glass with an initial crack are influenced by the residual stress induced by Vickers indentation. Regardless of the presence of residual stress, the failure time under static fatigue is shorter than that under cyclic fatigue. In the region of a small crack, the fatigue crack aspect ratio for glass is smaller than that for metallic materials. The crack growth rate in glass with an initial crack initially decreases and then increases with an increase in the maximum stress intensity factor, Kmax. To investigate the effect of residual stress on the fatigue crack propagation behavior of soda‐lime glass, the in situ observation of fatigue crack propagation was conducted. Crack closure occurs in glass in which tensile residual stress induced by Vickers indentation was released by annealing. The temporal behaviors of land surface temperature (LST) coupled with its associated parameters play a crucial role in determining the microclimate at the city scale. The increasing pattern of LST and consequent changes in biophysical parameters (parameters specify the amalgamation of living system with their physical characteristics including vegetation, water, built-up, bareness and drought parameters) at monthly, seasonal and annual time spans and from regional to global scale need to be comprehensively evaluated. The present study deals with LST estimation along with other spectral indices including Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI), Modified Normalized Difference Water Index (MNDWI), Normalized Difference Built-up Index (NDBI), Normalized Difference Bareness Index (NDBaI), and Normalized Multi-band Drought Index (NMDI) using Landsat series datasets from 1991 to 2022 of Aligarh city, Uttar Pradesh, India. The spatial pattern of LST indicates that the areas having water bodies and dense vegetation are colder such as the Aligarh Muslim University Campus and the catchment of Ganga canal areas, whereas the areas of high urbanization and bare grounds reflect high LST trends. Study finds a positive correlation of LST with NDBI (R2-0.56), NDBaI (R2-0.22) and NDWI (R2-0.22), whereas a negative correlation with NDVI (R2-0.35), MNDWI (R2-0.36) and NMDI (R2-0.41). Land use land cover (LULC)-based change detection in land cover classes was found consistent with the obtained results for spectral indices and LST patterns in the study area. Finally, the cross-validation using Modern-Era Retrospective analysis for Research and Applications (MERRA) reanalysis-based products of earth skin temperature and rainfall showed a good fit between observed and reanalysis products. Numerous systematic reviews (SRs) have produced conflicting findings on engine‐driven nickel–titanium reciprocating instruments (reciprocating instruments) since Yared's seminal study 15 years ago. This umbrella review analysed SRs examining the clinical and laboratory evidence regarding reciprocating instruments for root canal treatment. SRs that evaluated qualitatively and/or quantitatively the outcomes postoperative pain, oral health‐related quality of life (OHRQoL), shaping ability, debris extrusion, microbial load, endotoxins reduction, cyclic fatigue, file fracture, dentinal cracks and root canal filling removal were included. The AMSTAR 2 tool was used to evaluate SRs quality, while the ROBIS tool to assess risk of bias (RoB). Forty SRs were included. The SRs revealed predominantly 'high' RoB and 'critically low' quality. Most focused on technical outcomes, exhibiting significant methodological and statistical heterogeneity. Findings suggest comparable efficacy between reciprocating and rotary instruments. However, due to the scarcity of high‐quality evidence, future well‐designed studies and reviews considering core outcome measures are needed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Flexible glass is an interesting substrate for a variety of displays, especially bendable or foldable ones, as it shows excellent surface properties and appealing haptics. With the necessary skill, flexible glass can be coated with thin films of different functionality, such as electrical or optical thin films, using plasma processes. In displays, thin film coatings such as transparent conductive electrodes and/or antireflective layer stacks are of major importance. Despite its attractive surface properties, however, flexible glass is still brittle, and its strength must be examined and monitored during any functionalization process, especially with regard to the fatigue behaviour. Currently, specific setups for cyclic fatigue testing of coated flexible glass are not available. Therefore, a new test method is presented herein for easy-to-handle rapid strength and fatigue testing using an endurance testing machine. This method overcomes two issues with the commonly used two-point bending test: the correct insertion of specimens is much easier, and both strength and fatigue testing using the same setup are now possible. Finite element method (FEM) simulation outcomes and first experimental simple fracture tests show that results comparable to those with a two-point bending test setup can be achieved with less effort. This makes it possible to analyze the fracture behaviour of flexible glass under cyclic loading and to evaluate the influence of thin film stress and other coating properties on its performance. The introduction of nickel–titanium rotary instruments revolutionized shaping procedures as they were able to produce a well-tapered preparation while reducing operator fatigue. The major drawback of rotary instruments was the high risk of fracture due to bending and torsional stress. Thus, the creation of a glide path has been advocated and recommended by most rotary instrument manufacturers. The aim of the present review is to summarize existing knowledge on glide path preparation and identify areas where further research is needed. The primary goal is to provide a comprehensive overview of the techniques and instruments used in glide path preparation, highlighting their advantages and limitations. The secondary goal is to explore the effect of glide path creation on the overall success of endodontic treatment, particularly in terms of reducing procedural errors and improving treatment outcomes. An online search on PubMed, ScienceDirect, UCLA, and Scopus databases was conducted, and 116 articles were identified. Eligible articles were divided into nine categories based on what they researched and compared. The categories included centering ability and/or root canal transportation, cyclic fatigue resistance, glide path and shaping time, tortional stress resistance, apical extrusion of debris and/or bacteria, defects in dentine walls, file separation, postoperative pain assessment, and scouting ability and performance. Establishing a glide path reduces root canal transportation, especially with rotary methods. Reciprocating and heat-treated files offer higher fatigue resistance and shorter preparation time. Instruments with shorter pitch lengths have greater torsional strength. Preparation and coronal preflaring reduce apical debris and bacteria. Glide paths do not affect dentine microcracks, file separation, or defects but reduce immediate postoperative pain and improve cutting ability. Focusing on the joint effect of gradient structure and carbides, this work explores the stress–strain response of gradient high-strength steels under cyclic loading and their fatigue crack propagation behavior. We utilize the finite element method with a ductile damage model and the Hall–Petch effect to establish models for stress–strain calculation and fatigue crack propagation of gradient structure subjected to cyclic loading. The effect of gradient structure on the uniformity of stress–strain distribution and crack propagation is examined in detail. Differences between the models for crack propagation with and without carbides have also been compared. The results demonstrate that cracks initiate at the source and propagate perpendicular to the principal normal stress direction. Moreover, the presence of gradient structure significantly retards fatigue crack propagation, but the presence of carbides accelerates crack propagation. In addition, fine-grained gradient is found to be more effective than coarse-grained one in slowing down crack propagation, but they do not fully counteract the accelerating effect of carbide phase. The present simulation results are consistent with the relevant experimental phenomena. The joint effect of gradient structure and carbides depends on which has a greater impact on the rate of crack propagation. Numerical simulations of fatigue fracture in high-strength steels containing gradient structure and carbide phase in this study can be used to guide how to improve the service performance of high-strength steels. In this study, the symmetric cyclic bending fatigue properties of three‐dimensional (3D) woven composites under the condition of R = −1 were investigated. Three types of 3D preform structures with different warp yarn paths were designed, and a bending fatigue testing fixture suitable for 3D woven composites under R = −1 conditions was developed. In addition, the bending fatigue properties, damage mechanisms, and failure modes of three composites were studied. The results showed that the warp yarn paths were responsible for the differences in quasi‐static bending properties. The bending fatigue properties were related to the warp yarn paths and applied stress. Satin woven (SW) structure had the highest bending fatigue failure strain value, followed by the twill woven (TW) structure, and the plain woven (PW) structure had the lowest. The bending fatigue limits of PW, TW, and SW structures were 40% (136 N), 40% (210.5 N), and 16% (119.4 N) stress levels, respectively. The bending fatigue failure mode of 3D woven composites was softening failure under the condition R = −1. Purpose: During the forming process, aluminum alloy sheets develop various types of textures and are subjected to cyclic loading as structural components, resulting in fatigue damage. This study aims to develop polycrystalline models with different orientation distributions and incorporate suitable fatigue indicator parameters to investigate the effect of orientation distribution on the mechanical properties of Al-7.02Mg-1.78Zn alloys under cyclic loading. Design/methodology/approach: In this study, a two-dimensional polycrystalline model with 150 equiaxed grains was constructed based on optical microscope images. Subsequently, six different orientation distributions were assigned to this model. The fatigue indicator parameter of strain energy dissipation is utilized to analyze the stress response and fatigue crack driving force in polycrystalline models with different orientation distributions subjected to cyclic loading. Findings: The study found that orientation distribution significantly influences fatigue crack initiation. Orientation distributions with a larger average Schmid factor exhibit reduced stress response and lower fatigue indicator parameters. Locations with a larger average Schmid factor experience greater plastic deformation and present a higher risk for fatigue crack initiation. RVE with a single orientation undergoes more rotation to reach cyclic steady state under cyclic loading due to the ease of deformation transfer. Originality/value: Currently, there are no reports in the literature on the calculation of fatigue crack initiation for Al-Mg-Zn alloys using the crystal plasticity finite element method. This study presents a novel strategy for simulating the response of Al-7.02Mg-1.78Zn materials with different orientation distributions under symmetric strain cyclic loading, providing valuable references for future research. Fixing the posterolateral fragments of tibial plateau fractures has been challenging owing to potential neurovascular injuries and fibular head blocks. Several surgical approaches and fixation techniques have been reported, with distinct limitations. We propose a novel lateral tibia plateau hook plate system and compare its biomechanical stability with other fixation methods. Twenty-four synthetic tibia models were simulated to present posterolateral tibial plateau fractures. These models were randomly assigned to three groups. Group A models were fixed with the lateral tibia plateau hook plate system, Group B with variable-angle anterolateral locking compression plates, and Group C with direct posterior buttress plates. The models' biomechanical stability was evaluated using static (gradually increased axial compressive loads) and fatigue (cyclically loaded from 100 to 600 N for 2000 cycles each) tests. Groups A and C models exhibited comparable axial stiffness, subsidence load, failure load, and displacement in the static test. Group A model exhibited higher subsidence and failure loads than Group B model. Groups A and C models exhibited comparable displacement at 100 N cyclic loading in the fatigue test. Group C model was more stable at higher loads. Group C model endured the highest subsidence cycle numbers, followed by Groups A and B models. The lateral tibia plateau hook plate system provided similar static biomechanical stability as the direct posterior buttress plates and comparable dynamic stability under limited axial loading. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of side flattening of cutting flutes on the cyclic resistance and torsional resistance of nickel-titanium files. Both novel flattened Platinum V.EU (PL) and standard nonflattened CC Premium V.EU (CC) rotaries were tested. For cyclic fatigue tests, all the files were rotated in an artificial root canal with a curvature of 45° and a radius of 6.06 mm at 300 rpm (n = 15 in each group). The number of cycles to failure (NCF) was calculated. For torsional tests, the files were rotated at 2 rpm clockwise until fracture occurred. The maximum torque value at fracture was measured and the toughness and distortion angle were computed. Subsequently, 5 fragments were randomly selected in each experiment, the cross-section and longitudinal direction of the fragments were photographed using a scanning electron microscope. An unpaired t-test was performed at a significance level of 95%. There was a statistically significant difference in NCF between CC and PL (P <.05). CC showed higher NCF than PL. There was no statistically significant difference between CC and PL with regards to the parameters related to torsional resistance (distortion angle, ultimate strength, and toughness) (P >.05). Within the limitations of this study, side flattening of the file did not improve cyclic resistance or torsional resistance of the files. Context: Root canal instrumentation is one of the important procedures for successful endodontic therapy. Unexpected fracture of files occurs during root canal instrumentation without any visible signs of deformation compromising the success of root canal treatment. Aims: The aim of the study was to evaluate and compare cyclic fatigue resistance (CFR) of rotary and reciprocating files in simulated canals with 45°, 60°, and 90° angle of curvature. Settings and Design: The study design was an In vitro study. Subjects and Methods: Sixty nickel-titanium files, 30 each of rotary and reciprocating files were selected and divided into four groups (n = 15) of Neoendo Flex, ProTaper Next, WaveOne Gold (WOG), and Reciproc Blue (RPB) files. Each group was further subdivided into three subgroups containing five samples each based on their use in simulated canals with 45°, 60°, and 90° angle of curvature. To simulate root canals with 45°, 60°, and 90° angle of curvature, three artificial canals were designed in a stainless steel metal block. Each file was autoclaved, immersed in 3% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), and coated with 17% ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). Each file was tested for CFR using a torque-controlled reduction handpiece by instrumenting in a simulated canal for 10 s until fracture. The cycle of autoclaving, exposure to NaOCl, EDTA, and testing of CFR for 10 s per canal as per groups and subgroups was repeated again and again until the respective file fracture. The time taken to file fracture was recorded using a digital chronometer. The time taken for each file fracture (in minutes) was multiplied by the number of rotations per minute to attain the number of cycles to failure (NCF). Statistical Analysis Used: The obtained results were subjected to statistical analysis using one-way analysis of variance and independent t-test. Results: One-way ANOVA test showed a statistically significant difference between the four groups, P < 0.001. Independent "t"-test between individual subgroups showed a statistically significant difference, as P < 0.05. Conclusions: WOG and RPB reciprocating file systems showed superior CFR, more especially in canals with abrupt 90° angle of curvature compared to both rotary file systems tested. The development of monorail transport systems began relatively recently, though their history dates back to the early 19th century. In modern hard coal mining, a suspended monorail is a basic means of auxiliary personnel and material transportation. A project with the acronym HEET II is currently being carried out as part of the European Union’s Research Fund for Coal and Steel. One of the elements of the transport system developed as part of the project is the composite steel rail that constitutes the subject of this publication. The innovative rail design serves as the runway for the suspended monorail and an element of its power supply system. This paper supplements a certain research gap or rather undertakes the first attempt at testing a railway track formed from composite-steel rails consisting of a composite section in the middle, similar in shape to an I-beam, as well as two steel joints constituting the ends for mounting further rails and for coupling with the hoists. It presents the methodology and results of composite-steel rail testing under static and cyclic fatigue loading and prolonged bending loading applied to the rail during a creep test. It also presents the results of comparative tests for the composite steel rail and a conventional steel rail during overloading and break tests under bending loading. The composite-steel rail test methodology was significantly expanded relative to the conventional steel rail methodology, given that the composite materials and resins are strongly susceptible to creeping, and their operation under cyclic loads exhibits a greater risk of failure compared to steel rails. The composite-steel rail test results presented in this article make it possible to conclude that despite its existing design flaws, applying this type of rail design in underground suspended monorail transportation cannot be excluded. The evidence base on minimally invasive endodontic (MIE) treatment is limited. This study investigated the influence of MIE shaping on vertical root fracture (VRF) resistance and crack formation of root canal filled teeth. Human maxillary central incisors were randomized into six groups (n = 18, power = 0.9) and embedded in acrylic blocks with artificial periodontal ligaments. The root canals were either instrumented to size #40 and 0.04 taper (+MIE) or enlarged to ISO size #80 (−MIE). The canals were filled with cement-based (C) or adhesive resin-based (A) sealers in single-cone technique. The controls received no treatment or were left unfilled. After chewing simulation (staircase method, 25–150 N, 120,000×), the crack formation on the root surface was analyzed using stereomicroscope/digital imaging and classified (no defect, craze line, vertical crack, horizontal crack). Subsequently, the samples were loaded until fracture. The incidence of defects (56% vertical cracks) was not significantly different between the groups (p ≥ 0.077). VRF resistance was significantly higher in untreated teeth than in +MIE/C (p = 0.020) but did not significantly differ between the other groups (p ≥ 0.068). Bamboo fiber is a natural fiber that is ecologically beneficial and one of the best materials to replace lignin fiber for roads, which is still difficult to utilize properly in asphalt mixtures owing to its poor adherence, dispersion, and hydrophilicity. Previous research has discovered that alkali treatment, as an effective treatment approach, may effectively lower the hydrophilicity of plant fibers and improve their compatibility with the matrix. As a result, it is vital to investigate the effect of alkali treatment on bamboo fibers used in asphalt mixtures. The composition and microstructure of bamboo fibers treated with alkali were investigated using SEM and FTIR methods, while the adhesion between the bamboo fiber and asphalt before and after alkali treatment was tested using the fiber pull-out test. In addition, the dispersion rate of bamboo fibers in asphalt mixture was determined by developing a connection equation using the Schellenberg binder drainage test. The performance of bamboo fiber asphalt mixtures was then evaluated using rutting tests, beam bending tests, immersion Marshall tests, freeze-thaw splitting tests, and cyclic fatigue testing. The results showed that the alkali treatment successfully eliminated impurities in the outer layer of the bamboo fibers and reduced their hydrophilicity, which enhanced the asphalt-bamboo fiber interactions as well as the asphalt mixture's water damage resistance, specifically manifested as the residual stability of ABM was enhanced by 7.8% and the splitting tensile strength of ABM was raised by 12.2%. Furthermore, the surface polarity of the bamboo fibers was reduced, which weakened the agglomeration phenomenon and increases the dispersion rate of bamboo fibers in the mixture by 9%, efficiently improving the low-temperature cracking resistance and fatigue performance of asphalt mixtures. The current study aimed to evaluate the effects of different combinations of chemical and mechanical challenges on the failure load, failure mode and composition of the resulting fracture surfaces of resin-composite restorations. Three resin composites were used to fill dentin disks (2 mm inner diameter, 5 mm outer diameter, and 2 mm thick) made from bovine incisor roots. The model restorations, half of which were preconditioned with a low-pH buffer (48 h under pH 4.5), were subjected to diametral compression with either a monotonically increasing load (fast fracture) or a cyclic load with a continuously increasing amplitude (accelerated fatigue). The load or number of cycles to failure was noted. SEM was performed on the fracture surfaces to determine the proportions of dentin, adhesive, and resin composite. Both cyclic fatigue and acid preconditioning significantly reduced the failure load and increased the proportion of interfacial failure in almost all the cases, with cyclic fatigue having a more pronounced effect. Cyclic fatigue also increased the amount of adhesive/hybrid layer present on the fracture surfaces, but the effect of acid preconditioning on the composition of the fracture surfaces varied among the resin composites. The adhesive or hybrid layer was found to be the least resistant against the chemomechanical challenges among the components forming the model restoration. This study aimed to investigate the effect of radiotherapy and taper of root canal preparation on the biomechanical behavior of mesial roots of mandibular molars. Eighty mandibular molars with 2 canals in the mesial root were randomly allocated into 2 groups (n = 40): one group underwent irradiation (60 Gy), while the other did not. Subsequently, the mesial roots were sectioned and each group was subdivided into 5 subgroups (n = 8), according to the preparation taper: no preparation (control); 25.03; 25.04; 25.06; and 25.08. All groups were considered homogeneous regarding their dimensions, weight, and morphology. The prepared specimens were embedded in cylindrical plastic molds and subjected to a cyclic fatigue test. A failure analysis was performed according to the extension and course of the fractures. Two-way ANOVA, Tukey's post-hoc, Fisher's exact, and Kaplan–Meier tests were conducted to evaluate the obtained data (α = 5%). Fatigue resistance decreased as the taper of the preparation increased (P <.05). Preparation 25.03 presented significantly higher values only than 25.08 (P <.05), while 25.04, 25.06, and 25.08 were considered similar (P >.05). Irradiation significantly reduced the biomechanical performance (P <.05). Survival analysis corroborated these findings. There were no differences in the distribution of fracture types among the groups (P >.05). • The low-cycle fatigue life of T6 alloy is longer than that of T4 alloy. • T4 alloy shows cyclic hardening fatigue behavior, but T6 alloy shows cyclic softening. • Fatigue cracks propagate along PSBs in T4 alloy, but fatigue cracks propagate along grain boundaries in T6 alloy. • Compared with T4 alloy, the enhanced pyramidal slip in T6 alloy plays an important role to accommodate plastic deformation. The low-cycle fatigue behavior of solutionized (T4) and aged (T6) WE43 magnesium alloys was studied at room temperature. The total strain amplitudes (Δε t /2) were 0.4%, 0.5%, 0.6%, 0.7% and 1.0%. Detailed microstructure evolution was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed that plastic strain amplitude decreased with the increasing cycle number in T4 alloy, which is due to the dense persistent slip bands (PSBs) and dynamic precipitates hindering dislocation slip. In contrast, the plastic strain amplitude increases gradually in T6 alloy, which is attributed to the enhanced activation of pyramidal slip. The low-cycle fatigue life of T6 alloy with larger fatigue ductility coefficient is longer than that of T4 alloy. The Coffin-Manson model can accurately predict the fatigue life of T4 and T6 alloys compared to Jahed-Varvani (JV) energy model. Implant-supported-screw-retained prostheses are highly popular. Some of the most frequent complications are connected with the mechanical properties of the fixing elements. These include abutment screw loosening or even screw fracture. Using an intermediate abutment can offer several advantages. However, few studies detail how this affects the mechanical behavior of dental restorations. This study focuses on understanding the mechanical behavior of implant-supported restorations with a transepithelial component compared to direct implant-supported restoration. It was carried out using the finite element method (FEM) and was experimentally validated. The results showed that in the case of transepithelial-supported restoration, the prosthetic screw mounted over the transepithelial component suffered higher stress than the one screwed directly into the implant. After applying a cyclic fatigue load, it was experimentally proven that, in the transepithelial-supported restorations, the fuse changed from being the screw that went into the implant to being the upper one. In conclusion, we can state that the use of an intermediate abutment in dental restoration not only provides better protection for the rest of the dental restoration but also allows for easier repair in the event of a fracture. Objectives: The present study reviews the current literature regarding the utilization of the extended finite element method (XFEM) in clinical and experimental endodontic studies and the suitability of XFEM in the assessment of cyclic fatigue in rotary endodontic nickel–titanium (NiTi) instruments. Material and Methods: An electronic literature search was conducted using the appropriate search terms, and the titles and abstracts were screened for relevance. The search yielded 13 hits after duplicates were removed, and four studies met the inclusion criteria for review. Results: No studies to date have utilized XFEM to study cyclic fatigue or crack propagation in rotary endodontic NiTi instruments. Challenges such as modelling material inputs and fatigue criteria could explain the lack of utilization of XFEM in the analysis of mechanical behavior in NiTi instruments. This paper aims to investigate the response and local buckling of locally sharp-notched C2700 brass circular tubes (LSN C2700 brass circular tubes) under cyclic bending loads. The study considers four different notch orientations (0°, 30°, 60°, and 90°) and five distinct notch depths (0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0 mm). The results reveal that notch orientation and depth exert minimal impact on the moment–curvature relationship, leading to the formation of stable loops. The ovalization–curvature graphs demonstrate a trend of symmetry, serration, and growth with an increasing number of bending cycles. Additionally, larger notch orientations or smaller notch depths result in reduced ovalization. Furthermore, the double logarithmic coordinates of controlled curvature–number of cycles necessary to induce local buckling reveal five non-parallel lines representing different notch depths when the notch orientation is fixed. Finally, by adopting the formulas for smooth tubes and for locally sharp-notched 304 stainless steel circular tubes (LSN SS304 circular tubes), this study adjusts the related material parameters accordingly. These modifications effectively describe the controlled curvature–number of cycles necessary to induce local buckling for LSN C2700 brass circular tubes with different notch orientations and depths under cyclic bending, demonstrating reasonable agreement with the experimental results.
