Interface energy and kinetic coefficient of crystal growth strongly depend on the face of the crystalline lattice. To investigate the kinetic anisotropy and velocity of different crystallographic faces we use the hyperbolic (modified) phase field crystal model which takes into account atomic density (as a slow thermodynamic variable) and atomic flux (as a fast thermodynamic variable). Such model covers slow and rapid regimes of interfaces propagation at small and large driving forces during solidification. In example of BCC crystal lattice invading the homogeneous liquid, dynamical regimes of advancing front propagating along the selected crystallographic directions are studied. Рентгенографічним методом досліджена температурна та концентраційна залежність нанометричного параметра кристалічної гратки a твердих розчинів системи Cu-Ni в межах 293-1073 К, рентгенівська характеристична температура, дійсний лінійний та об’ємний коефіцієнт розширення параметра Грюнайзена y, універсальна міра ангармонізму та явна частина узагальнюючої міри ангармонізму коливань атомів кристалічної гратки сплавів на основі Cu-Ni. Пояснюється розбіжність індивідуальних значень y та середніх значень параметра Грюнайзена. Частина результатів дослідження представлена аналітично, а інша – графічно. Проаналізована кореляція та розбіжність експериментальних результатів з літературними даними. Обгрунтована перспектива застосування високотемпературного рентгенівського методу визначення параметра Грюнайзена при вивченні структури та міжатомних зв'язків твердих тіл. The temperature and concentration dependence of the nanometric parameter of the crystalline lattice of solid solutions of the Cu-Ni system within the limits of 293-1073 K, the X-ray characteristic temperature, the actual linear and volumetric expansion factor of the Grüneisen parameter, the universal measure of anharmonicity and the explicit part of the generalization of the anharmonic oscillation measure of atoms of the crystalline lattice of alloys based on Cu and Ni were investigated by X-ray method. The discrepancy between the individual values and the mean values of the Grüneisen parameter was explain. One part of the research results were presented analytically, and the other were presented graphically. Analyzed correlation and discrepancy of experimental results with literary data. The prospect of using a high-temperature X-ray method for determining the Grüneisen parameter in studying the structure and interatomic bonds of solids was substantiated.

In this work, we describe the combination of hydrothermal and atomic layer deposition (ALD) for growing low-resistivity ZnO polycrystalline continuous films. The effect of the thickness of ALD seed layers on the morphology of the hydrothermal ZnO films was studied. It was shown that ZnO films hydrothermally deposited on very thin seed layer consist of separate nanorods but in the case of 20 nm seed layer ZnO films transform to uniform continuous layers comprising of closely packed vertically aligned crystallites. Photoluminescence spectra were shown to exhibit broad band behavior in the visible range, corresponding to radiative recombination processes via oxygen defects of ZnO crystalline lattice, and narrow band in the UV region, associated with band-to-band recombination processes. It was shown that the resistivity of the obtained ZnO films is decreased gradually with the increase of ZnO films thickness and determined by the presence of crystal lattice defects in the seed layer.

Purpose. The purpose of the paper is an estimation of degree of metal hardness change for the railway wheel with martensite structure during rolling. Methodology. As strength characteristic the Rockwell hardness is used. Wear tests were conducted in the conditions of normal loading with (10%) and without sliding on the test equipment SMTs-2. Parameters of the fine crystalline structure (tetragonality degree of the crystalline grid, dislocation density, scale of coherent scattering regions, and disturbance value of the crystalline grid of second kind) are determined by the methods of X-ray structural analysis. Findings. During operation of the railway wheels with different strength level, origin of defects on the wheel thread is caused by simultaneous action of both the friction forces and the cyclically changing loadings. Considering that formation of damage centers is largely determined by the state of metal volumes near the wheel thread, one should expect the differences in friction processes development at high contact stress for the wheels with different strength level and structural state. Originality. During the wear tests softening effect of carbon steel with martensite quenching structure is obtained. Softening effect equaled 3.5–7% from the level of quenched metal hardness. The softening effect is accompanied by the reduction of tetragonality degree of the crystalline structure of martensite, reduction of coherent scattering regions, dislocation density increase and crystalline grid disturbance of the second kind. Practical value. The results point out the necessity for further studies to clarify the resulted softening effect mechanism., Цель. Целью работы является оценка степени изменения твердости металла железнодорожного колеса со структурой мартенсита при качении. Методика. В качестве характеристики прочности была использована твердость по Роквеллу. Испытания на изнашивание проводили при условиях нормальной нагрузки, с проскальзыванием (10%) и без проскальзывания, на испытательном оборудовании СМЦ-2. Параметры тонкого кристаллического строения (степень тетрагональности кристаллической решетки, плотность дислокаций, размер областей когерентного рассеивания, величина искажений кристаллической решетки второго рода) определяли с использованием методик рентгеновского структурного анализа. Результаты. При эксплуатации железнодорожных колес разного уровня прочности возникновение повреждений на поверхности катания обусловлено от одновременного действия сил трения и циклически меняющихся нагрузок. Считая, что формирование очагов разрушения в значительной степени определяется состоянием объемов металла вблизи с поверхностью катания железнодорожного колеса, следует ожидать различий в развитии процессов трения при высоком контактном напряжении для колес с разным уровнем прочности и структурным состоянием. Научная новизна. В процессе испытаний на изнашивание был получен эффект разупрочнения углеродной стали со структурой закалки на мартенсит. Снижение твердости составило значения от 3,5 до 7% от уровня закаленного металла. Эффект разупрочнения сопровождался снижением степени тетрагональности кристаллической решетки мартенсита, измельчением областей когерентного рассеивания, увеличением плотности дислокаций и искажений кристаллической решетки второго рода. Практическая значимость. Полученные результаты указывают на необходимость продолжения исследований по уточнению механизма полученного эффекта разупрочнения., Мета. Метою роботи є оцінка ступеню зміни твердості металу залізничного колеса з структурою мартенситу підчас кочення. Методика. В якості характеристики міцності була використана твердість за Роквеллом. Випробування на зношування проводили за умов нормального навантаження, з просковзуванням (10%) і без просковзування, на випробувальному устаткуванні СМЦ-2. Параметри тонкої кристалічної будови (ступінь тетрагональності кристалічної решітки, густина дислокацій, розмір областей когерентного розсіювання, величина викривлень кристалічної решітки другого роду) визначали з використанням методик рентгенівського структурного аналізу. Результати. При експлуатації залізничних коліс різного рівня міцності виникнення ушкоджень на поверхні кочення обумовлене від одночасної дії сил тертя та циклічно змінних навантажень. Вважаючи, що формування осередків руйнування в значній мірі визначається станом об'ємів металу поблизу з поверхнею кочення залізничного колеса, слід очікувати відмінностей в розвитку процесів тертя при високій контактній напрузі для коліс з різним рівнем міцності і структурним станом. Наукова новизна. В процесі випробувань на зношування був отриманий ефект пом’якшення вуглецевої сталі з структурою після гартування на мартенсит. Зниження твердості склало значення від 3,5 до 7% від рівня стану металу після гартування. Ефект пом’якшення супроводжувався зниженням ступеню тетрагональності кристалічної решітки мартенситу, подрібненням областей когерентного розсіювання, збільшенням густини дислокацій і викривлень кристалічної решітки другого роду. Практична значимість. Отримані результати указують на необхідність продовження досліджень стосовно уточнення механізму отриманого ефекту пом’якшення.

TiO2 crystals, anatase and rutile, have been studied using Density Functional Theory (DFT) and the Generalized Gradient Approximation (GGA). Also, the intraatomic interaction term for strongly correlated d-electrons (DFT+U approximation) has been utilized for a proper description of the Ti d-electrons. The presence of some impurities in the otherwise pure crystal affects the structural, electronic and magnetic properties of the TiO2. The presence of a Fe atom in the anatase structure produces shifts of the Ti atoms towards it whereas the majority of O atoms move away. Also, it exhibits n-type electrical conductivity. When a Sc atom is present in the same structure, Ti atoms are not moving while the O atoms move outwards with respect to the impurity. There are no changes in the electrical conductivity. In the case of Fe atom incorporation into the rutile structure, the host Ti atoms move towards the point defect and O atoms move outwards, obviously due to the electrostatic forces. The bandgap reduction has been observed for this particular case. Finally, the presence of a Sc atom in the rutile crystalline lattice produces a local microstructure with all defectsurrounding atoms displacing themselves outwards the defect, most due to the reduction of the charge in the defective region. A small band-gap reduction (14%) has been also found in this case.

A Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM) image has lateral deformation errors arising from scanning error such as nonlinear relation between applied voltage and displacement for piezo scanner, thermal drift etc. This paper describes a software to correct lateral deformation errors were calculated directly as the lateral error transformation by comparing known theoretical crystalline lattice image with its deformed STM image by using the least squares method. The lateral error transformation involved the following error factors; i) the out-of perpendicularity between X and Y axes ii) the scaling errors of X and Y axes iii) non-linear motion and hysteresis of the deformed STM image. We observed HOPG and CuAu alloy thin layer (on mica, NaCl) by STM, and corrected their deformed images.

The experimental study of intrinsic UV-VUV luminescence and X-ray emission at the selective excitations near fundamental absorption edge as well as at the inner-shell excita-tions for binary BeO crystal and multicomponent oxide crystals Be₂SiO₄, Y₂SiO₅ and La₂Be₂O₅ has been performed. The results show that relaxation during the time-scale of decay of short-living anion and cation excitations leads to creation of self-trapped excitons at the same low-symmetry local structural units of crystalline lattice. The applied experimental method gives an opportunity to clarify a participation of different crystalline units of complex oxides in the self-trapping of excitons. Виконано експериментальне дослідження власної УФ-ВУФ люмінесценції і рентгенівської емісії для бінарного BeO і комплексних Be₂SiO₄, Y₂SiO₅ й La₂Be₂O₅ кристалів при селективному збудженні поблизу краю фундаментального поглинання і в області поглинання остовних рівнів. Результати дослідження показують, що релаксаційні процеси, що відбуваються протягом часу життя короткоживучих як аніонних, так і катіон-них збуджень приводять до утворення автолокалізованих екситонів у тих самих низьких-симетричних локальних структурних фрагментах кристалічної гратки. Використаний експериментальний метод дозволяє встановити ступінь участі різних фрагментів кристалічної гратки у процесах автолокалізації екситонів у комплексних оксидах. Выполнено экспериментальное исследование собственной УФ-ВУФ люминесценции и рентгеновской эмиссии для бинарного ВеО и комплексных Be₂SiO₄, Y₂SiO₅ и La₂Be₂O₅ кристаллов при селективном возбуждении вблизи края фундаментального поглощения и в области поглощения остовных уровней. Результаты исследования показывают, что релаксационные процессы, происходящие в течение времени жизни короткоживущих как анионных, так и катионных возбуждений приводят к образованию автолокализованных экситонов в одних и тех же низко-симметричных локальных структурных фрагментах кристаллической решетки. Использованный экспериментальный метод позволяет установить степень участия различных фрагментов кристаллической решетки в процессах автолокализации экситонов в комплексных оксидах.
