In this work we analyze the $\bar KN$ interaction in the framework of a constituent quark model. The near-threshold elastic and charge exchange cross sections are evaluated, finding a good agreement with the experimental data. Furthermore, the possible existence of $\bar KN$ bound states are explored, finding two poles in the isoscalar $J^P=\frac{1}{2}^-$ sector that can be interpreted as the experimental $\Lambda(1405)$ state., Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures, 3 tables

We provide an in-detail derivation through the $^3P_0$ pair creation model of the transition matrix for a baryon decaying into a meson-baryon system. The meson's analysis was conducted in Ref. [1] and we extend the same formalism to the baryon sector, focusing on the $\Delta(1232)\to \pi N$ strong decay width because all hadrons involved in the reaction are very well established, the two hadrons in the final state are stable, avoiding further analysis, all quarks are light and so equivalent, and the decay width of the process is relatively well measured. Taking advantage of a Gaussian expansion method for the hadron's radial wave functions, the expression of the invariant matrix element can be related with the mean-square radii of hadrons involved in the decay. We use their experimental measures in such a way that only the strength of the quark-antiquark pair creation from the vacuum is a free parameter. This is then taken from our previous study of strong decay widths in the meson sector, obtaining a quite compatible result with experiment for the calculated $\Delta(1232)\to \pi N$ decay width., Comment: 27 pages, 2 figures

During a screening in ASAS-SN database searching candidates of Delta Scuti stars with short period, our attention was drawn to the variable star ASASSN-V J104912.47+274312.7, we considered interesting to follow. It is an ASAS-SN discovery, classified by them as a RRc. We observed it for 16 nights in 2021, obtaining several maxima that allow us to refine its period. After a frequency analysis, we conclude that this star belongs to a small subgroup of RRc stars having the peculiarity to show two close frequencies with ratio greater than 0.96, without 0.61 or 0.68 period ratio mode. This behaviour is very similar to two stars found by Netzel & Smolec (2019) in OGLE data, and one star in NGC 6362, studied by Smolec et al. (2017). The ExoClock project has been created with the aim of increasing the efficiency of the Ariel mission. It will achieve this by continuously monitoring and updating the ephemerides of Ariel candidates over an extended period, in order to produce a consistent catalogue of reliable and precise ephemerides. This work presents a homogenous catalogue of updated ephemerides for 450 planets, generated by the integration of $\sim$18000 data points from multiple sources. These sources include observations from ground-based telescopes (ExoClock network and ETD), mid-time values from the literature and light-curves from space telescopes (Kepler/K2 and TESS). With all the above, we manage to collect observations for half of the post-discovery years (median), with data that have a median uncertainty less than one minute. In comparison with literature, the ephemerides generated by the project are more precise and less biased. More than 40\% of the initial literature ephemerides had to be updated to reach the goals of the project, as they were either of low precision or drifting. Moreover, the integrated approach of the project enables both the monitoring of the majority of the Ariel candidates (95\%), and also the identification of missing data. The dedicated ExoClock network effectively supports this task by contributing additional observations when a gap in the data is identified. These results highlight the need for continuous monitoring to increase the observing coverage of the candidate planets. Finally, the extended observing coverage of planets allows us to detect trends (TTVs - Transit Timing Variations) for a sample of 19 planets. We report two fundamental inequalities in the Stoner-Wohlfarth model. Specifically, we investigate the theoretical limit for the initial magnetic susceptibility in a system described by the Stoner-Wohlfarth approach. We also find analytical solutions for the magnetization in the low-field regime and obtain the borderline value for the uniaxial anisotropy constant in such an ideal Stoner-Wohlfarth system. We go beyond and introduce a general mean-field theory for interacting Stoner-Wohlfarth-like systems, thus estimating how the initial magnetic susceptibility is affected by the dipolar and exchange interactions inside the system. By means of a simple insight from a fundamental inequality for the magnetic susceptibility of an ideal Stoner-Wohlfarth system, we show its violation is a signature of the existence of exchange interactions between nanoparticles in an interacting Stoner-Wohlfarth-like system., Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:2110.04139

A topology optimization formulation including a model of the layer-by-layer additive manufacturing (AM) process is considered. Defined as a multi-objective minimization problem, the formulation accounts for the performance and cost of both the final and partially manufactured designs and allows for considering AM-related issues such as overhang and residual stresses in the optimization. The formulation is exemplified by stiffness optimization in which the overhang is limited by adding mechanical or thermal compliance as a measure of the cost of partially manufactured designs. Convergence of the model as the approximate layer-by-layer model is refined is shown theoretically, and an extensive numerical study indicates that this convergence can be fast, thus making it a computationally viable approach useful for including AM-related issues into topology optimization. The examples also show that drips and sharp corners associated with some geometry-based formulations for overhang limitation can be avoided. The codes used in this article are written in Python using only open sources libraries and are available for reference.

We report a simple, efficient manner to assess magnetic interactions, more specifically the exchange interaction, in systems as blocked magnetic nanoparticles. Specifically, we investigate what is the theoretical limit for the external magnetic susceptibility in a system described by the plain old Stoner-Wohlfarth model. We go beyond and introduce a general mean field theory for interacting systems, thus estimating how the magnetic susceptibility is affected due to the dipolar and exchange interactions inside the system. We disclose a fundamental inequality for the magnetic susceptibility and show its violation is an unambiguous signature of the existence of exchange interactions between nanoparticles in a collective system. To test the robustness of our theoretical achievements, we examine magnetization measurements and Henkel plots for blocked magnetic nanopowders. Magnetic anisotropies have key role to taylor magnetic behavior in ferromagnetic systems. Further, they are also essential elements to manipulate the thermoelectric response in Anomalous Nernst (ANE) and Longitudinal Spin Seebeck systems (LSSE). We propose here a theoretical approach and explore the role of magnetic anisotropies on the magnetization and thermoelectric response of noninteracting multidomain ferromagnetic systems. The magnetic behavior and the thermoelectric curves are calculated from a modified Stoner Wohlfarth model for an isotropic system, a uniaxial magnetic one, as well as for a system having a mixture of uniaxial and cubic magnetocrystalline magnetic anisotropies. It is verified remarkable modifications of the magnetic behavior with the anisotropy and it is shown that the thermoelectric response is strongly affected by these changes. Further, the fingerprints of the energy contributions to the thermoelectric response are disclosed. To test the robustness of our theoretical approach, we engineer films having the specific magnetic properties and compare directly experimental data with theoretical results. Thus, experimental evidence is provided to confirm the validity of our theoretical approach. The results go beyond the traditional reports focusing on magnetically saturated films and show how the thermoelectric effect behaves during the whole magnetization curve. Our findings reveal a promising way to explore the ANE and LSSE effects as a powerful tool to study magnetic anisotropies, as well as to employ systems with magnetic anisotropy as sensing or elements in technological applications.

We investigate the magnetic nanoparticles (fluid) hyperthermia in non-adiabatic conditions through the calorimetric method. Specifically, we propose a theoretical approach to magnetic hyperthermia from a thermodynamic point of view. To test the robustness of the approach, we perform hyperthermia experiments and analyze the thermal behavior of magnetite and magnesium ferrite magnetic nanoparticles dispersed in water submitted to an alternating magnetic field. From our findings, besides estimating the specific loss power value from a non-adiabatic process, thus enhancing the accuracy in the determination of this quantity, we provide physical meaning to parameters found in literature that still remained not fully understood, and bring to light how they can be obtained experimentally., Comment: 3 figures

We present an analysis about the influence of an external magnetic field on renormalons in a self interacting theory $\lambda \phi ^{4}$. In the weak magnetic field region, using an appropriate expansion for the Schwinger propagator's, we find new renormalons as poles on the real axis of the Borel plane, whose position do not depend on the magnetic field, but where the residues acquire in fact a magnetic dependence. In the strong magnetic limit, working in the lowest Landau level approximation (LLLA), these new poles are not longer present. We compare the magnetic scenario with previous results in the literature concerning thermal effects on renormalons in this theory., Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures. We associate tape casting and magnetron sputtering techniques to engineer flexible nanostructures using ZrO$_2$ green tape as substrate. We systematically investigate the structural, magnetic and electrical properties of NiFe/Cr/NiFe trilayer nanostructures, with variable thickness values of the NiFe and Cr layers, grown onto rigid glass and flexible ZrO$_2$ tape substrates. We verify the mirroring of these properties in the trilayer nanostructures, irrespective on the kind of employed substrate. The fact that the trilayer nanostructures can be reproduced in distinct substrates corresponds to an important advance for their applicability. The results place the ZnO$_2$ green tape as an attractive candidate for application as low-cost flexible substrate in the development of electrical and magnetic sensor elements with high sensitivity to mechanic stress.

We investigate the dynamic magnetic response of ferromagnetic flexible NiFe/Ta and FeCuNbSiB/Ta multilayers under external stress. We explore the possibility of handling magnetic anisotropy and dynamic magnetic response of flexible magnetostrictive nanostructures. We quantify the sensitivity of the multilayers under external stress by calculating the ratio $|\Delta \textrm{MI}|/|\Delta \bar{\sigma}|$ and show that considerable values can be reached by tuning the magnetic field, frequency, magnetostriction constant, and external stress. The results reveal possibilities of application of flexible magnetostrictive multilayers under external stress and place them as very attractive candidates as element sensor for the development of sensitive smart touch sensors.

We provide the first quantitative comparison between Barkhausen-noise experiments and recent predictions from the theory of avalanches for pinned interfaces, both in and beyond mean-field. We study different classes of soft magnetic materials: polycrystals and amorphous samples, characterized by long-range and short-range elasticity, respectively; both for thick and thin samples, i.e. with and without eddy currents. The temporal avalanche shape at fixed size, and observables related to the joint distribution of sizes and durations are analyzed in detail. Both long-range and short-range samples with no eddy currents are fitted extremely well by the theoretical predictions. In particular, the short-range samples provide the first reliable test of the theory beyond mean field. The Stoner-Wohlfarth model is a traditional and efficient tool to calculate magnetization curves and it can provides further insights on the fundamental physics associated to the magnetic properties and magnetization dynamics. Here, we perform a theoretical and experimental investigation of the quasi-static magnetic properties of anisotropic systems. We consider a theoretical approach which corresponds to a modified version of the Stoner-Wohlfarth model to describe anisotropic systems and a distribution function to express the magnetic anistropy dispersion. We propose a procedure to calculate the magnetic properties for the anisotropic case of the SW model from experimental results of the quadrature of magnetization curves, thus quantifying the magnetic anisotropy dispersion. To test the robustness of the approach, we apply the theoretical model to describe the quasi-static magnetic properties of amorphous FeCuNbSiB ferromagnetic films. We perform calculations and directly compare theoretical results with longitudinal and transverse magnetization curves measured for the films. The magnetoimpedance effect is a versatile tool to investigate ferromagnetic materials, revealing aspects on the fundamental physics associated to magnetization dynamics, broadband magnetic properties, important issues for current and emerging technological applications for magnetic sensors, as well as insights on ferromagnetic resonance effect at non-saturated magnetic states. Here, we perform a theoretical and experimental investigation of the magnetoimpedance effect for the thin film geometry in a wide frequency range. We calculate the longitudinal magnetoimpedance for single layered, multilayered or exchange biased systems from an approach that considers a magnetic permeability model for planar geometry and the appropriate magnetic free energy density for each structure. From numerical calculations and experimental results found in literature, we analyze the magnetoimpedance behavior, and discuss the main features and advantages of each structure. To test the robustness of the approach, we directly compare theoretical results with experimental magnetoimpedance measurements obtained in a wide range of frequencies for an exchange biased multilayered film. We investigate the magnetization dynamics through the magnetoimpedance effect in ferromagnetic NiFe/Cu/Co films. We observe that the magnetoimpedance response is dependent on the thickness of the non-magnetic Cu spacer material, a fact associated to the kind of the magnetic interaction between the ferromagnetic layers. Thus, we present an experimental study on asymmetric magnetoimpedance in ferromagnetic films with biphase magnetic behavior and explore the possibility of tuning the linear region of the magnetoimpedance curves around zero magnetic field by varying the thickness of the non-magnetic spacer material, and probe current frequency. We discuss the experimental magnetoimpedance results in terms of the different mechanisms governing the magnetization dynamics at distinct frequency ranges, quasi-static magnetic properties, thickness of the non-magnetic spacer material, and the kind of the magnetic interaction between the ferromagnetic layers. The results place ferromagnetic films with biphase magnetic behavior exhibiting asymmetric magnetoimpedance effect as a very attractive candidate for application as probe element in the development of auto-biased linear magnetic field sensors., Comment: 5 figures

We investigate the statistical properties of the Barkhausen noise in amorphous ferromagnetic films with thicknesses in the range between $100$ and $1000$ nm. From Barkhausen noise time series measured with the traditional inductive technique, we perform a wide statistical analysis and establish the scaling exponents $\tau$, $\alpha$, $1/\sigma \nu z$, and $\vartheta$. We also focus on the average shape of the avalanches, which gives further indications on the domain wall dynamics. Based on experimental results, we group the amorphous films in a single universality class, characterized by scaling exponents $\tau\sim 1.27$, $\alpha \sim 1.5$, $1/\sigma \nu z \sim \vartheta \sim 1.77$, values similar to that obtained for several bulk amorphous magnetic materials. Besides, we verify that the avalanche shape depends on the universality class. By considering the theoretical models for the dynamics of a ferromagnetic domain wall driven by an external magnetic field through a disordered medium found in literature, we interpret the results and identify an experimental evidence that these amorphous films, within this thickness range, present a typical three-dimensional magnetic behavior with predominant short-range elastic interactions governing the domain wall dynamics. The present paper theoretically investigates magnetoresistance curves in quasiperiodic magnetic multilayers for two different growth directions, namely [110] and [100]. We considered identical ferromagnetic layers separated by non-magnetic layers with two different thicknesses chosen based on the Fibonacci sequence. Using parameters for Fe/Cr multilayers, four terms were included in our description of the magnetic energy: Zeeman, cubic anisotropy, bilinear and biquadratic couplings. The minimum energy was determined by the gradient method and the equilibrium magnetization directions found were used to calculate magnetoresistance curves. By choosing spacers with a thickness such that biquadratic coupling is stronger than bilinear coupling, unusual behaviors for the magnetoresistance were observed: (i) for the [110] case there is a different behavior for structures based on even and odd Fibonacci generations; and more interesting, (ii) for the [100] case we found magnetic field ranges for which the magnetoresistance increases with magnetic field., Comment: Revtex4, 10 pages, 5 figures included
