A semi-flexible imidazole-based urea ligand, 1-(3-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)propyl)-3-phenylurea, and three zincdicarboxylate coordination polymers possessing the ligand were synthesized and characterized. The stoichiometry and coordination number of the zinc(II) ions in the coordination polymers were found to be dependent on the positional isomers of the benzene dicarboxylate. The 1,3-benzenedicarboxylate-based coordination polymer has a one-dimensional structure, whereas, the one possessing 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate has a two-dimensional architecture. The solvent used in the synthesis of the zinc-1,3-benzenedicarboxylate coordination polymer with the ligand played a decisive role on the solvation and conformation of the ligand. The anhydrous form was obtained from a reaction in methanol in which one of the urea moieties has a puckered geometry and the assembly has layers from one-dimensional bunches of coordination chains. However, the same reaction in ethanol provided a solvate having water and ethanol as the solvents of crystallization and it has the two ligands with a stretched geometry forming a cleft-like geometry to include the ethanol molecules. The two forms were not inter-convertible. Coordination polymers are a sub-class of coordination complexes that possess unique opto-electronic properties and hence can be utilized for a wide range of applications such as sensing and photocatalysis. Herein, four new coordination polymers (CPs) with formula [Mn2(HL)(NMP)(H2O)2]n (1), [Mn2(HL)(DMA)2(H2O)·2DMA]n (2), [Mn(H3L)(H2O)2]n (3) and [Mn(H3L)(H2O)(4,4′-bipy)]n (4) (H5L = 3,5-bis(3,4-dicarboxyphenoxy) benzoic acid and NMP = N-methyl pyrrolidone) were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized. The single-crystal X-ray analysis revealed a distorted octahedral geometry around Mn(II) in these CPs and that they form an extended hydrogen bonding and π⋯π stacking interaction-assisted network. Thermogravimetric studies revealed that the CPs, 1, 2, 3 and 4, have variable thermal stability in the range of 82–194 °C. All four complexes exhibited optical semiconducting behavior and hence were used as photocatalysts for the photodecomposition of antibiotics, including chloramphenicol (CAP), nitrofurazone (NFZ), ornidazole (ODZ), oxytetracycline (OXY) and sulfamethoxazole (SMT). Transition-metal coordination complexes have attracted wide attention in molecular chemistry, but their applications still confront a tremendous challenge. Herein, a novel silver coordination polymer with a formula of {[Ag9(TIPA)6](NO3)9·12H2O}n (Ag-TIPA) was prepared by a solvothermal reaction of silver nitrate with triangular tris(4-imidazolylphenyl)amine (TIPA). The crystalline molecular structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, which showed that each Ag(I) was coordinated with two nitrogen atoms of TIPA ligands. Such Ag-TIPA was used as a catalyst for the photodegradation of ciprofloxacin and 4-nitrophenol under UV-visible light irradiation. The results exhibited excellent photocatalytic performance and reusability due to high structure stability in an acidic, neutral and alkaline environment. The experimental findings and density functional theory calculations revealed that metal–ligand charge transfer in Ag-TIPA extended the absorption range of light and improved the charge transfer properties of TIPA. To further understand the photodegradation process, the intermediates were predicted and analysed through electrostatic potential, orbital weighted dual descriptor, and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry techniques. Based on these findings, a possible degradation mechanism was proposed. In recent years, due to their tunable hierarchical architecture and wide versatility in applications, the synthesis of coordination polymers (CPs) has received wide attention from the scientific community. The present work focuses on the solvothermal synthesis of two novel lanthanoid CPs composed of gadolinium and dysprosium connected with 1H-pyrazole-3,5-dicarboxylic acid (1H-3,5-PDA) and benzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (1,4-BDC) linkers. The prepared materials were assessed using elemental analysis, SCXRD, FTIR, PXRD, thermogravimetric analysis and photoluminescence. The synthesized sensor (CP 2) is an efficient chemosensor for the detection of Fe3+ and meta-nitro aniline, thereby acting as a dual sensor. The material exhibits high quenching efficiencies of 98.25% and 98.11% towards the sensing at ppm-level concentrations of Fe3+ and m-NA, respectively. The Ksv values for the detection of Fe3+ and m-NA were found to be 3.76 × 104 L mol−1 and 2.5 × 104 L mol−1, respectively, which the confirm high and efficient sensing ability of the synthesized sensor. The extension of a series of polyalkylpyrazolyl-substituted 2-imidazoline nitronyl nitroxide radicals LR1/R2/R3 (R = Me, Et, Pr, Bu) enables the synthesis of a number of coordination polymers based on copper(II) bis(hexafluoroacetylacetonate) Cu(hfac)2 with LR1/R2/R3. As compared to breathing crystals (Cu(hfac)2 complexes with monoalkyl-substituted nitroxides LR1 with bridging μ2-O,N coordination), the introduction of the second substituent LR1/R2 into the pyrazole ring allows the performance of the tritopic function of the paramagnetic ligand (μ3-O,O,N) and the formation of 1D and 2D polymers with original structures and different combinations of [CuO6], [CuO5N], [CuO4N2], and [CuO5] coordination cores. Only molecular complexes are obtained with single 3-substituted nitroxide LR1/R2/R3–LMe3. The single crystal X-ray diffraction study of the structures of these compounds shows that as in the case of LMe3, an increase in the size of one of substituents in LR1/R2 to Pr or Bu causes an increase in distances between paramagnetic centers in two- and three-spin exchange clusters, and correspondingly, spin transitions are absent. Metal–organic frameworks and coordination polymers (MOFs/CPs) have emerged as a rare category of multidimensional materials with applications in many fields, particularly as photocatalysts for aromatic dyes and for the luminescent sensing of volatile organic solvents (VOCs), anions, cations, etc. Herein, a luminescent zinc(II) coordination polymer (ZnCP) was prepared using 3,5-diamino triazole (DAT) and 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid (BTC) under solvothermal conditions and was fully characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis, and single X-ray crystallography. Moreover, the photocatalytic performance of the ZnCP in decomposing an aqueous solution of methyl green (MG) was examined. Photocatalysis results indicated a 99.61% efficiency in the presence of the ZnCP under visible light. Furthermore, an active species trapping experiment helped deduce a possible photocatalysis mechanism of MG degradation. Interestingly, the ZnCP also acted as a potential luminescent sensor for the detection of cations Fe3+ and Cu2 and anions Cr2O72− and MnO4−, with outstanding limit of detection (LOD) values of 2.44 nM for Fe3+, 3.50 nM for Cu2+, 3.14 nM for Cr2O72−, and 2.54 nM for MnO4−. A new 2D homochiral zinc coordination polymer (Zn-CP) with 52-member rings was synthesized by solvothermal method. X-ray single crystal diffraction results show that the initial ligand (H2ibga = (4-(1 H-imidazol-1-yl)benzyl)-L-glutamic acid) cyclized and crystallized in monoclinic with space group P2 after coordination with zinc(II) ions. Phase purity and thermal stability of Zn-CP were verified by X-ray powder diffraction (PXRD) and thermogravimetric (TG), respectively. Additionally, Zn-CP can recognize tetracycline (TC), Fe3+ and ascorbic acid (AA) rapidly and selectively in aqueous solution, with low detection limits (LODs) of 3.49 nM, 4.42 nM and 0.38 µM, respectively. This study focused on the solvothermal synthesis, characterization, and photocatalytic activities of two novel coordination polymers, namely [Zn(μ-HSeO3)2(bipy)]n (1) and [Zn(μ-HSeO3)2(phen)]n (2). These compounds represent the first organically linked ZnII hydrogenselenite coordination polymers. The synthesis of compounds 1 and 2 involved the addition of 2,2′-bipyridine and 1,10-phenanthroline, respectively, to SeO2 and ZnO in methanol as the solvent. The novel hydrogenselenite compounds were thoroughly characterized using spectroscopic and crystallographic methods. The photocatalytic solids (TiO2-1A and TiO2-2A) were prepared by immobilizing compounds 1–2 onto TiO2 through the sol–gel approach. These photocatalysts were then evaluated for hydrogen evolution via water splitting using a 300 W Hg/Xe lamp as the irradiation source. Among the newly synthesized photocatalytic materials, TiO2-1A demonstrated auspicious photocatalytic performance for hydrogen gas production. Its catalytic activity overcame the observed for the pure solid support TiO2 and Degussa P25 (commercial titania), making compound 1 a particularly attractive TiO2 photosensitizer. Additionally, TiO2-1A exhibited superior photocatalytic activity compared to TiO2-2A. The latter performed better than freshly prepared TiO2, approaching that of Degussa P25. These findings highlight the potential of compound 1 as an effective photosensitizer for TiO2-based photocatalysis, making it a promising candidate for applications in clean energy generation, specifically in hydrogen production by water splitting. New zinc bis-o-semiquinolate complexes based on 3,5-di-tert-octyl-o-benzoquinone bearing the N-donor ligand (pyrazine) coordinated to the metal are synthesized. Two different products can be obtained depending on the synthesis method: coordination polymer (direct oxidation of metallic zinc with o-quinone (CIF file CCDC no. 2250574 (I)) or polynuclear cluster (exchange reaction (CIF file CCDC no. 2250575 (II)). The coordination polymer is linear and free of intermolecular π,π interactions between the aromatic fragments of the adjacent molecules. The magnetochemical study of complexes I and II shows that intramolecular antiferromagnetic exchange interactions between spins of the o-semiquinolate radical centers dominate. Bispidines are a family of ligands that plays a pivotal role in various areas of coordination chemistry, with applications in medicinal chemistry, molecular catalysis, coordination polymers synthesis, and molecular magnetism. In the present work, triazole moieties were introduced using the CuAAC click-reaction, with the aim of expanding the number of coordination sites on the bispidine core. The 1,2,3-triazole rings were thus synthesized on propargyl-derived bispidines after reaction with different alkyl azides. The new class of triazole-bispidines was characterized, and their chelation capabilities were evaluated with different metals through NMR titration, ESI-MS spectrometry, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD). Copper and copper oxide nanostructures are ubiquitous in materials science owing to their high potential in energy and environment applications. This article describes the utility of a 2D Cu(II) coordination polymer (2D-CuPDC) derived from 2,5-pyridinedicarboxylic acid linker, as a precursor for selective isolation of Cu and CuO nanostructures. The structure of the coordination polymer has been elucidated from single crystal XRD. The Cu center in 2D-CuPDC is in a distorted square pyramidal geometry with the polymeric unit propagating along the ac-plane when viewed along the a-axis. The thermogravimetric analysis of 2D-CuPDC indicates that it can be an efficient molecular precursor for copper oxide nanoparticles. The solvent assisted and solvent free breakdown of the 2D-CuPDC network revealed the formation of Cu nano-flowers and porous CuO nanostructures, respectively. The crystal structure, phase purity, morphology, elemental composition and band gap of these nanostructures were evaluated from pXRD, electron microscopy, EDS and DRS-UV, respectively. The band gap of these nanostructures lies in the range suitable for photocatalytic applications. (4-(Diphenylphosphino)pyrimidin-2-yl)diphenylphosphine oxide is unexpectedly formed in 24% yield in the reaction of 2,4-dichloropyrimidine with 2 equiv. of Ph2PLi in THF solution. It was demonstrated that title compound reacts with AgNO3 forming 1D polymer [Ag(L)NO3], wherein P,N,O-bringing coordination of the ligand is observed. This paper introduces a multifunctional air filter with a strong ability to trap and disinfect pathogens and absorb particulate matter (PM), the volatile organic compound (VOC), and CO 2. This study demonstrates a facile and eco-friendly synthesis of copper coordination polymer particle (Cu-CPP)-decorated non-woven fibre filters (Cu-CPP/NWF) via an in situ growth dip-coating method. Their multifunction potentials in air pollution treatment are also assessed. The Cu-CPP/NWF filter media showed a remarkable performance for air treatment, with 100% disinfection efficiency against airborne E. coli bacteria (2 × 106 CFU mL−1) in 45 min, superior PM removal efficiency (quality factor 0.299 Pa−1), excellent p-xylene adsorption capacities (1.19 mmol/g) and high potential CO 2 uptake capacities (19.81 cm3/g). A Cu-CPP can work as an antibacterial agent and an adsorbent component, thus offering many applications. The rational integration of Cu-CPP can substantially enhance the filtration efficiency via electrostatic interaction, while most commercial air purifiers rely on dense fibrous filters. Self‐assembly of (((1‐(pyridin‐2‐yl)ethylidene)hydrazono)methyl)phenol ligand (L1) and MnCl2 proceeded with the hydrolysis of the ligand affording the new [Mn(L2)Cl2]n 1D coordination polymer where L2 is 2‐(1‐hydrazonoethyl)pyridine. The structure of [Mn(L2)Cl2]n was confirmed using FTIR, CHN, and X‐ray diffraction of single crystal. It crystallized in the triclinic P‐1 crystal system with a = 7.0697(9) Å, b = 8.878(1) Å, c = 9.402(2) Å, α = 113.99(2)°, β = 95.48(1)°, γ = 111.77(1)°, and V = 479.13(15) Å3. The Mn(II) is octahedrally coordinated with two nitrogen atoms from L2 and four chloride ions. The chloride anions act as bridging ligand that connect the Mn(II) centers leading to the formation of the 1D polymer. Based on continuous shape (CShM) measure tool, the coordination configuration is closer to the octahedron rather than a trigonal prism. Using Hirshfeld analysis, the Cl ... H (29.2%), H ... C (13.6%), and C ... C (3.7%) contacts are the most important in the molecular packing of [Mn(L2)Cl2]n complex. The ligand L2 has better antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidant activities than the Mn(II) complex. The [Mn(L2)Cl2]n complex has higher cytotoxic effect than L2 against both lung carcinoma A‐549 and lung fibroblast MRC‐5 cell lines. Using 4-(3-Carboxyphenyl)picolinic acid (H2cppa), a pyridine-carboxylate ligand to react with its relevant metal salts in the existence of a second N-donor chelating ligand 2,2'-bipyridine (2,2'-bipy) under different reaction conditions, two new coordination polymers (CPs) were produced, and their chemical formulae are {[Ni(μ-cppa)(2,2′-bipy)(H2O)]·H2O}n (1) and [Co(μ-cppa)(2,2′-bipy)(H2O)]n (2). Aerobic oxidation of benzylic C(sp3)–H bonds in a green and heterogeneous manner is a major target in organic catalysis. Herein, we report the synthesis of 3D coordination polymers containing [Co5(OH)6]4+ layers, affording reusable and efficient oxidation of ethylbenezene and tetralin by using O2 as the oxidant. Moreover, the cleavage of CoII–carboxylate bonding renders atomically thin cobaltate nanosheets and enhanced catalytic performance. This is one of the top catalytic performances for CoII-catalyzed benzylic C(sp3)–H oxidation (∼0.02 mol% Co and 76% conversion for nanosheets), ascribed to the exposed, accessible and coordinatively unsaturated CoII species. Green synthesis of a copper-based coordination polymer (Cu-CP) is reported utilizing a simple precipitation method. The prepared coordination polymer was characterized and used as a potent adsorbent for the elimination of organic dyes from aqueous solutions. The results of zeta potential analysis showed that the surface charge of the Cu-CP was −33.6 mV. In spite of negative surface charge and moderate specific surface area (99 m2·g−1), the prepared Cu-CP was a good adsorbent for removal of cationic e.g., malachite green (MG) and methylene blue (MB) as well as an anionic dye e.g., Congo red (CR). This efficiency could be attributed to π-π interaction and hydrogen bonding between adsorbent and adsorbate as the major forces leading to uptake of the dyes. However, MG with high removal efficiency (85.44%) at 2 min was chosen as a targeted dye for further consideration. Then, the effect of various parameters for adsorption of the MG e.g., adsorbent amount, pH, and initial concentration of dye were optimized. The adsorption isotherm and kinetic model for MG adsorption were also investigated. Finally, the adsorbent was reused after recycling which indicated high MG removal efficiency in successive tests. The current study aims to explain recent developments in the synthesis of Pb(II)-azido metal-organic coordination polymers. Coordination polymers are defined as hybrid materials encompassing metal-ion-based, organic linkers, vertices, and ligands, serving to link the vertices to 1D, 2D, or 3D periodic configurations. The coordination polymers have many applications and potential properties in many research fields, primarily dependent on particular host–guest interactions. Metal coordination polymers (CPs) and complexes have fascinating structural topologies. Therefore, they have found numerous applications in different areas over the past two decades. Azido-bridged complexes are inorganic coordination ligands with higher fascination that have been the subject of intense research because of their coordination adaptability and magnetic diversity. Several sonochemical methods have been developed to synthesize nanostructures. Researchers have recently been interested in using ultrasound in organic chemistry synthetics, since ultrasonic waves in liquids accelerate chemical reactions in heterogeneous and homogeneous systems. The sonochemical synthesis of lead–azide coordination compounds resulted from very fantastic morphologies, and some of these compounds are used as precursors for preparing nano lead oxide. The ultrasonic sonochemistry approach has been extensively applied in different research fields, such as medical imaging, biological cell disruption, thermoplastic welding, food processing, and waste treatment. CPs serve as appropriate precursors for preparing favorable materials at the nanoscale. Using these polymers as precursors is beneficial for preparing inorganic nanomaterials such as metal oxides. A new two-dimensional coordinate polymer, {[Zn2(pbmpd)(H2O)4]·(H2O)}n (H4pbmpd = 1,1'-(1,4-phenylenebis(methylene)) bis-(1H-pyrazole-3,5-dicarboxylic acid)), has been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by IR spectrum, elemental analysis, TGA and X-ray single-crystal/powder diffraction. Structural analyses reveal that complex 1 exhibits a two-dimensional sheet structure in the crystal lattice. In complex 1, the carboxylic oxygen atoms and conjugated N atoms of pbmpd4- bridge zinc(II) ions form indefinitely zigzag shaped one-dimensional chains through π···π stacking interactions which are further connected by [ZnO6] units to form a novel two-dimensional structure. Finally, π···π stacking interactions and intermolecular hydrogen bonds assemble the two dimensional networks into a three-dimensional framework. Furthermore, the luminescent properties are also discussed. Interestingly, the solid state photoluminescence properties of the title polymer show the enhancement effect of spectrum. Composite polymer electrolytes (CPEs) have garnered significant interest due to their lightweight, flexible, and suitability for large-scale processing. However, current CPEs still face challenges such as unsatisfactory ionic conductivity (σ), low Li+ transference number (t +), and poor interfacial stability. This study presents the synthesis of a coordination polymer by coordinating Co2+ with terpyridine-end-capped polyethylene glycol (Co(tpy)-PEG). The resulting Co(tpy)-PEG-reinforced PEO-based CPE exhibits exceptional properties, including a high σ of 0.22 mS cm−1, large t + of 0.75, and superior durability in both Li|Li (1400 h at 0.2 mA cm−2) and Li|LiFePO 4 cells (70% capacity retention after 1000 cycles at 1C) at 60 °C, comparable to the best available CPEs. The incorporation of Co(tpy)-PEG filler plays a vital role in enhancing the σ by disrupting the PEO crystallinity and creating additional Li+ conducting pathways. Additionally, it can free Li+ to increase t + through Lewis acid-base interactions between Co2+ and TFSI−/O atoms, as well as NO 3 − and Li+. Furthermore, Co(tpy)-PEG facilitates the formation of a stable multicomponent solid electrolyte interphase containing beneficial Li 2 S x , LiF, and Li 3 N. This work introduces a promising strategy for designing and preparing multifunctional fillers capable of simultaneously reinforcing the σ, t +, and interfacial stability of CPEs. The contamination of aqueous environments by hazardous organic dye pollutants has become a pressing global concern, necessitating innovative strategies for effective water purification. In this research, we present the design, synthesis, and comprehensive evaluation of a new zinc(II) coordination polymer, formulated as [Zn(HIPA)(HIZ) 2 ]n⋅H 2 O (CP-1), specifically tailored for adsorption studies aimed at the removal of hazardous organic dye pollutants from aqueous mediums. The CP-1 was effectively synthesized using a hydrothermal synthesis approach and incorporates two distinct organic ligands, namely, 5‑hydroxy isophthalic acid, and imidazole, along with a water molecule within the crystal lattice. The structural and morphological attributes of the synthesized coordination polymer (CP-1) are elucidated through a comprehensive characterization process, including SCXRD, PXRD, FTIR, UV–VIS spectroscopy, TGA, SEM, and BET analysis. Single-crystal diffraction of CP-1 confirms that Zn is coordinated in a tetrahedral environment. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted, probing the influence of variables such as contact time, pH, temperature, the effect of dosage and initial dye concentration on the adsorption efficiency of CP-1. The CP-1 shows the best adsorption efficiency for MB followed by MO, CV, and CR. The CP-1 exhibits high selectivity and efficient MB and MO dyes adsorption at room temperature and neutral pH. Moreover, three different kinetic models were utilized to attain a deeper comprehension of the reaction mechanism involved in the adsorption of MB and MO. Amongst these models, the pseudo-second-order kinetic model demonstrated the best fit for both cases. Furthermore, the density functional theory with the dispersion correction (Grimme's DFT-D3) was utilized to support the dye's adsorption mechanism with the CP-1. To study this, the dispersion corrected interaction energies were computed for the dye-complex systems at B3LYP-D3/6–31G(d,p)/LANL2DZ level of theory. The efficient adsorption performance, coupled with its structural and chemical stability, suggests that CP-1 holds great potential for practical applications in water treatment processes aimed at addressing the pressing challenge of organic dyes pollutant contamination. 1‐ethyl‐3‐methylimidazolium dicyanamide (emim dca) was able to form Ni‐based coordination polymers where dca served as the bridging ligand with the postulate that emim was secondarily coordinated in the pores of the framework. Formation of the coordination polymer (CP) was accomplished by using a salting‐out approach (SOAP) with a saturated solution of lithium chloride (LiCl) as a mineralizer. The CP was thermo‐oxidatively stable up to 400 °C and displayed a nanorod‐like morphology. The rod‐like structures tended to stack in bundles. The microstructure of the Ni emim dca CP bore similarity to the rutile‐related framework of Ni(dca)2. However, the Ni emim dca CP was chemically distinguishable from Ni(dca)2 because of the presence of emim. Though the Ni emim dca CP was thermally stable below 400 °C, there appeared to be a thermal activation of the compound, likely through the nitrile groups. Employment of N,N′‐bis(2‐hydroxy‐4‐carboxyphenyl)oxalamide (H6L) in Cu2+ chemistry afforded the mononuclear complex (Et4N)4[CuL] ⋅ 13H2O (A) which comprises a square planar [CuL]4− complex with several O donor atoms in its periphery. The 1 : 1 reaction between complex A and Ln(NO3)3 ⋅ xH2O (Ln=La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er and Yb, x=6 or 9) in 1 : 4 mixture of ethanol/water in the presence of excess of KCl yielded two families of isomorphous 3d/4f coordination polymers, namely (Et4N)0.5[K0.5(H2O)Ln(H2O)4(CuL)] ⋅ 3H2O [Ln=La(1), Ce(2), Pr(3), Nd(4), Sm(5), Eu(6) and Gd(7)] and [K(H2O)Ln(H2O)4(CuL)] ⋅ ⋅6H2O [Ln=Tb(8), Dy(9), Ho(10), Er(11) and Yb(12)]. The crystal structures of 2–4 revealed the presence of 3D coordination polymers while the crystal structure of 9 the presence of a 2D coordination polymer. The relations of coordination network connectivity with coordination properties of heterocyclic N-oxides, Cu(I , II), and co-ligands were discussed based on the comparative analysis of 623 structures extracted from the Cambridge Structural Database. The structures were sorted into three main groups of combinations of the topological descriptors of the heterocyclic N-oxide ligand leading to the formation of molecular complexes, polymeric structures, and structures with clusters {CuxOy}. Only two, κ1 and κ2, coordination types were found for the N-oxide group. The κ2 type contributes to the formation of dimeric, trimeric, and rod secondary building units, attractive for the design of more stable 2D and 3D coordination polymers. Other functional groups of the heterocyclic N-oxides and co-ligands mainly result in increasing the connectivity of the complex, while terminal ligands restrict the connectivity. Based on the topological relations, five new coordination compounds of Cu(II) with 1-hydroxoimidazole-3-oxide (HL1), 2-methyl-1-hydroxoimidazole-3-oxide (HL2), and 4,5-dimethyl-1-hydroxoimidazole-3-oxide (HL3) were designed and synthesized: [Cu(H2O)(HCO2)(L1)]·0.5H2O (1), [Cu3(L1)4(CH3CO2)2] (2), [Cu(H2O)(HCO2)(L2)]·H2O (3), [Cu(L2)2] (4), and [Cu(L3)2] (5). The new compounds were studied by X-ray structural analysis, powder X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The N-oxide groups of the ligands are deprotonated in all the compounds and coordinated with 1 or 2 metal atoms, while the 1-hydroxoimidazole-3-oxides are coordinated in μ (1, 4, and 5), μ3 (2 and 3), and μ4 (1) bridging modes. Two (1 and 3) and one (2) compounds contain, respectively, di- and trinuclear secondary building units. Four (1, 3, 4, and 5) and one (2) compounds exhibit, respectively, 2D and 3D architectures of the topological types sql and pcu. It was found that the underlying topology pcu has not been observed before for such compounds, and the content of the ligand in the complex can be tuned by the choice of a co-ligand. Chirality is an important concept in chemistry revealing intriguing optical properties such as circular dichroism (CD), circularly polarized luminescence (CPL), etc. As one of the non‐centrosymmetric (NCS) classes, chiral materials with extended structures may exhibit unique nonlinear optical (NLO) properties, such as second‐harmonic generation (SHG). In this Concept article, a series of recently discovered NCS coordination polymers (CPs) from use of carefully designed chiral organic ligands are reviewed. Combining several metal cations such as lanthanides, lead, zinc, and cadmium with rigid chiral ligands has resulted in interesting CPs with both polar and nonpolar structures. Detailed structures, SHG properties, and structure‐property relationships are provided. We serendipitously designed one novel 1D hetero-binuclear Zn(II)-Pb(II) coordination polymer, namely [(Zn)(Pb)(L)(η1–NCS)(η1–SCN)]n (1) from Salen ligand (H3L) in the presence of NaSCN. The complex was structurally characterized by elemental, IR, Raman, NMR spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscope, Powder X-ray diffraction, and Single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD). The heteronuclear complex crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with Z = 4. The asymmetric unit contains one deprotonated ligand (L2−). SCXRD comprises metal ions of Zn(II) and Pb(II), fulfilled perfect square bipyramidal and Hemi-directed coordination spheres. We accomplished DFT by three different level basis set B3LYP, HF, and M062X with Lanl2dz to delineate Frontier molecular orbital, the Global chemical parameters, and the molecular electrostatic potential. Hirshfeld surface carried out non-covalent interactions like hydrogen bonding. This bonding considered the possible supramolecular topographies due to the flexible aliphatic –OH group. Besides H/H, C/H/H/C and N/H/H/N also dominated the supramolecular network. Van der Waals interactions appear to be more prevalent in the molecular packaging of the complex. Molecular docking finds the plausible binding process by implanting the complex into the active site of the crystal structures of estrogen receptor protein, the VEGFR kinase (liver cancer) protein, and the allosteric Eya2 phosphatase inhibitor (lung cancer) protein. The essential binding process is the polar and hydrophobic exchanges, π–π interaction, hydrogen bonds, and halogen. Two novel metal-organic coordination polymers [Sr(ttdc)(dma)2] (1) and [Zn(ttdc)(bpy)]·DMA·4H2O (2) (H2ttdc = thieno[3,2-b]thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylic acid, bpy = 2,2′-bipyridyl, DMA = N,N-dimethylacetamide) are synthesized under solvothermal conditions. Structures of the compounds are established by the single crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Chiral coordination polymers constructed from mandelic acid have shown promise in enantioselective recognition and sensing, whereas its methoxy-protected derivative, α-methoxyphenyl acetic acid, is rarely used as a ligand in coordination polymers. In this study, mandelic acid, 3,5-difluoromandelic acid, and α-methoxyphenyl acetic acid were combined with divalent transition metals and bridging dipyridyl co-ligands to obtain a series of six 1D coordination polymers. The coordination polymers of mandelate and 3,5-difluoromandelate possessed densely packed structures stabilised by hydrogen bonding. In contrast, the use of (R)-α-methoxyphenyl acetic acid gave rise to zig-zag chains with significant solvent-accessible void space. (R)-Mandelic acid and its derivatives are useful ligands for the synthesis of chiral coordination polymers. Combining (R)-mandelic acid and 3,5-difluoromandelic acid with first row transition metals and dipyridyl co-ligands gives one-dimensional chains linked by hydrogen bonds into a densely packed structure. The synthesis of three coordination polymers of cerium(III) and the ligand pyridine-2,4,6-tricarboxylate (PTC) is reported. Two of the materials crystallise under hydrothermal conditions at 180 °C, with [Ce(PTC)(H2O)2]·1.5H2O, (1), being formed on extended periods of reaction time, 3 days or longer, and Ce(PTC)(H2O)3, (2), crystallising after 1 day. Both phases contain Ce(III) but are prepared using the Ce(IV) salt Ce(SO4)2·4H2O as reagent. Under solvothermal conditions (mixed water-N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF)), the phase [Ce(PTC)(H2O)(DMF)]·H2O (3) is crystallised. The structures of the three materials are resolved by single crystal X-ray diffraction, with the phase purity of the samples determined by powder X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis. (1) is constructed from helical chains cross-linked by the PTC linkers to give a three-dimensional structure that contains clusters of water molecules in channels that are hydrogen-bonded to each other and to additional waters that are coordinated to cerium. (2) also contains nine-coordinate cerium but these are linked to give a dense framework, in which water is directly coordinated to cerium. (3) contains corner-shared nine-coordinate cerium centres, linked to give a framework in which Ce-coordinated DMF fills space. Upon heating the material (1) in air all water is irreversibly lost to give a poorly crystalline anhydrous phase Ce(PTC), as deduced from X-ray thermodiffractometry and thermogravimetric analysis. The material (1), however, is hydrothermally stable, and is also stable under oxidising conditions, where immersion in 30% H2O2 gives no loss in crystallinity. Oxidation of around 50% of surface Ce to the +4 oxidation state is thus possible, as evidenced by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, which is accompanied by a colour change from yellow to orange. In compound 1, the amido-oxygen atoms O1 coordinate with Mn2+ to form a Mn 2 O 2 cluster, while the adjacent Mn 2 O 2 cluster is interconnected by the ligand's oxygen atoms O3 and O4, resulting in an infinite expansion into a 3D network structure. Compound 2 exhibits a 1D chain structure containing Co 2 O 2 clusters, which further extends into a 2D supramolecular layer through π···π stacking interactions. Compound 3 comprises adjacent Co 2 O 2 clusters interconnected by oxygen atoms O1, O2, and O5 on the ligand to form a 2D layered architecture. The 2D layers are linked through intermolecular O–H···O hydrogen bonds of H 2 BPTA ligands to form a 3D supramolecular network. Crystal structure of catena-poly[( 2-4,4'-bipyridine- 2N:N')-bis(4-bromobenzoato- 1O)zinc(II)], C24H16Br2N2O4Zn The atom Zn1 is four coordinated with a distorted tetrahedral geometry by two N atoms from two symmetry 4,4'-bipyridine ligands and two O atoms from two different 4-bromobenzoate ligands (see the figure). • A new Cd-MOF material with stable fluorescence properties has been synthesized using a hydrothermal method. • The Cd-MOF with Cd cluster as the node, and 3dpu and IPA2− as linkers, exhibited excellent thermal and chemical stabilities. It was extended to the three-dimensional supramolecular framework by π - π stacking interaction and hydrogen bonding interaction. • The complex can be used as excellent fluorescent sensors toward Fe3+, Cr 2 O 7 2−, CRO (in Water) and CRO (in the Urine), with high K SV values of 3.663 × 105, 9.429 × 105, 2.493 × 105 and 9.443 × 105 M−1, and low LOD values of 3.86, 4.96, 0.96 and 0.25 μM, and have good anti-interference and recyclable characteristics. • The complex has promising applications in anion and small molecule recognition and can be used as a versatile probe for hazardous waste detection. In this contribution, Cd-MOF (1) complex with stable fluorescence properties was constructed by using 3dpu (N, N' -bis(3-pyridyl) urea) and H 2 IPA (isophtalic acid) as the organic ligands and Cd(NO 3) 2 ·4H 2 O as the metal nodes. A new two-dimensional (2D) homochiral cadmium(II) coordination polymer, {[Cd4(OH)2(L)2(pea)4]·CH3OH}n (1) (pea = (S)-1-phenylethanamine), was solvothermally synthesized based on an enantiomerically pure chiral ligand (S)-5-(((1-carboxy-2-phenylethyl)amino) methyl)isophthalic acid (H3L). Crystal structure analysis shows that 1 is a 2D homochiral framework consisting of coaxial double-helical chains where a pair of left- and right-handed 21 helixes shares tetranuclear Cd cluster subunits [Cd4(μ3-OH)2]. Topologically, 1 is an interesting 3,6-connected network with the point symbol of (43)2(46·66·83). The thermal stability and solid-state optical properties, including circular dichroism, and nonlinear optical and luminescent properties of 1 were systematically investigated. Furthermore, the fluorescence response of 1 to various common solvents and metal ions was preliminarily studied. Interesting enough, N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMA), acetone and Fe3+ ion have strong quenching effect on the fluorescence of 1, indicating that 1 has certain potential application in the visual detection of these species. Coordination polymers (CPs) and/or metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are new active materials for supercapacitors (SC). In this study, by solvothermal route, we conduct the melamine-assisted synthesis of bimetallic CPs (Co–Ni CPs) with controllable structures. The concentration of melamine plays an important role in the morphology of Co–Ni CPs, and the CPs can be turned from microspheres to nanorods. The Co–Ni CPs are used as electrode materials for SC. The spherical Co–Ni–CP-M exhibits the highest capacitances of 677 F g−1 and 585 F g−1 at current densities of 1 A g−1 and 10 A g−1, respectively, indicating an outstanding rate capability in a three-electrode system with 2.0 M KOH electrolyte. Furthermore, the Co–Ni–CP-M//active carbon device shows superior long-term cycling stability, i.e., approximately 92.6% of the initial capacitance can be retained after 10,000 cycles at 10 A g−1 in 2.0 M KOH electrolyte. The crystal structure of catena-poly[(m2-4,4'-bipyridine- 2N:N)-bis(6-phenylpyridine-2-carboxylato- 2N,O) zinc(II)], C34H24N4O4Zn The Zn-O and Zn-N distances are 1.9861(13) Å (Zn1-O1), 2.3991(16) Å (Zn1-N1), and 2.1793(16) Å (Zn1-N2), which is consistent with other Zn(II) complexes. Coordination polymers (CPs) have emerged as a peculiar category of multidimensional materials used as photocatalysts for assorted classes of lethal aromatic dyes. Herein, two new d10-configuration based coordination polymers with formula [Zn(L)(bip)·H2O] (1) and [Cd3(L)3(bip)2(H2O)2] (2) (H2L = 1,3-bis(4′-carboxylatophenoxy)benzene and bip = 3,5-bis(1-imidazoly)pyridine) have been reported and characterized using microanalyses, FTIR and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The X-ray analysis reveals that the Zn(II) based CP 1 has a 2D supramolecular framework built by hydrogen bonds as well as packing interactions between adjacent chains having a 3-nodal topology with a Schläfli notation of (4·84·12)(4)(8). Meanwhile, the Cd(II) based CP 2 exhibits a three-dimensional (3D) 2-fold interpenetrating network, having a 4,6-c net topology with a Schläfli notation of (44·610·8)(44·62). Both the materials have been used as photocatalysts for UV light assisted photodegradation of aromatic dye methylene blue (MB). The photocatalysis experiments indicate that the percentage degradation of MB is 35.92% and 72.02% in the presence of CPs 1 and 2, respectively, for a time period of 100 min, while in the absence of these CPs the percentage degradation is merely 11.49%. A mechanistic study towards understanding of the photocatalytic degradation of MB was carried out using LC–MS studies and computationally using band gap calculations; a probable mechanistic pathway has also been proposed which was further complimented with Hirshfeld surface analysis. A novel three‐dimensional CdII coordination framework, namely, poly[{μ‐bis[4‐(2‐methylimidazol‐1‐yl)phenyl] ether‐κ2N3:N3′}(μ‐naphthalene‐1,4‐dicarboxylato‐κ3O1:O4,O4′)cadmium(II)], [Cd(C12H6O4)(C20H18N4O)]n or [Cd(1,4‐NDC)(BMIOPE)]n, where 1,4‐H2NDC is naphthalene‐1,4‐dicarboxylic acid and BMIOPE is bis[4‐(2‐methylimidazol‐1‐yl)phenyl] ether, has been prepared and characterized by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. The compound displays a novel fourfold interpenetrating diamond‐like network. In addition, it not only shows a strong fluorescence emission in the solid state, but also exhibits excellent photocatalytic activity for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) at room temperature. Three new coordination polymers (CPs) with the formulas of [Zn2(SDBA)2(im)4]n (1), [CdCa(SDBA)2(DMA)(H2O)]n ⋅ 2n(DMA) (2) and [Cu(SDBA)0.5(μ2‐OH)]n (3) (H2SDBA=4,4'‐dicarboxybiphenyl sulfone, im=imidazole, DMA=N,N'‐dimethylacetamide) have been synthesized under hydro(solvo)thermal conditions and characterized by elemental analyses, powder x‐ray diffraction analyses, thermogravimetric analyses and single crystal X‐ray structural analyses. CP 1 displays a 1D double chain structure consolidated by N−H⋅⋅⋅O hydrogen bonds, which are further extended into a 3D supramolecular framework via the help of intermolecular N−H⋅⋅⋅O hydrogen bonds. CP 2 features a 2D layered structure based on 1D −[Cd−(COO)2−Ca]n− chains. Interestingly, in this 2D layer there exists large 1D channels that are occupied by the coordinated DMA molecules, coordinated water molecules and free DMA molecules. CP 3 has a 3D framework based on 1D −[Cu−(COO)(μ2‐OH)−Cu]n− chains. A set reaction of a rigid trisimidazole-based ligand with different auxiliary O-donor ligands gave rise to five trisimidazole-based coordination polymers, {[Ni(tib)(betc)0.5]·H2O}n (1, tib = 1,3,5-tris(1-imidazolyl)benzene, betc4− = 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylate), {[Zn5(tib)5(2-Hstp)5(H2O)6]·EtOH·12H2O}n (2, 2-Hstp2− = 2-hydrosulfoterephthalate), {[Zn(tib)(4-sb)]·H2O·DMF}n (3, 4-sb2− = 4-sulfobenzoate), {[Zn(tib)(H2O)]·(1,5-nds)}n (4, 1,5-nds2− = 1,5-naphthalenedisulfonate) and {[Zn3(tib)4](NO3)6·1.5H2O·1.5DMF}n (5). Their structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and further characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), elemental analyses and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) analyses. Compound 1 features a 3-nodal (3,4,5)-connected 3D framework with a point symbol of (3·92)3(4·6·8)2(6·93·126) topology. Compound 2 is a 2D wave-like layered solid in which the sheets are further assembled via hydrogen bonds and π–π interactions into a 3D supramolecular framework. Compound 3 presents a 2D protuberant network with a 4·82 topology, which extends into a 3D framework via π–π stacking and hydrogen bonding interactions. Compound 4 consists of 2D undulated cationic layers with a 4·82 topology that is charge balanced by the included 1,5-nds2− anions. Hydrogen bonds among the water molecules and the 1,5-nds2− anions further link these layers into a 3D supramolecular framework with 1D channels. Compound 5 shows a 2-nodal (3,4)-connected 3D framework possessing 1D channels occupied by the guest DMF and H2O molecules. The cationic network is charge balanced by the nitrate ions and displays a novel point symbol of {32·4}6{36·46·53} topology. The structural discrepancies of compounds 1–5 indicate that the presence of the different organic anions plays important roles in the formation of the final structures of the coordination polymers. Facile one-pot synthesis of Co coordination polymer spheres doped macroporous carbon and its application for electrocatalytic oxidation of glucose. Coordination polymers are highly desirable for various applications due to their functionality control of crystal structures. In this work, an unique class of amorphous Co coordination polymer spheres anchored onto 3D macroporous carbon (MPC) support (denoted as Co CPSs/MPC) was prepared via a facile hydrothermal method. The formation of Co CPSs/MPC was systematically verified by a series of characterizations, like scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction, etc. The synergic effects between the superior electrical conductivity of 3D MPC supports and the excellent electrocatalytic activity of Co CPSs result in the increase of electron transfer from electrocatalyst, and then form significant number available reactive sites on the surface of electrode, which exhibit an exceptional catalytic activity and oxidation ability towards glucose. Under optimized conditions, amperometry results also indicated that the Co CPSs/MPC exhibit excellent electroanalysis towards glucose. The current work can shed light on the promising Co CPSs/MPC for further exploited as a sensitive and simple non-enzymatic glucose analytical platform. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A novel coordination polymer {[Cd4(CPIP)3Cl8]}n (CP1) was constructed from the reaction of CPIP (CPIP=1-chloro-3- (pyridine-2-yl)imidazo[1,5-a]pyridine) and CdCl2⋅2.5H2O under solvothermal conditions. The employment of CPIP as the ligand was based on the consideration that two types of Lewis basic sites (the fused nitrogen atom and the chlorine substituent) are present on the backbone of the ligand. These sites can be utilized for interacting with cations and anions, thus for the sensing functionality. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies revealed that CP1 exhibits interesting one-dimensional (1D) polymeric chain structure. The adjacent four CdII ions are connected by one μ3-Cl and five μ2-Cl atoms to form a Chinese-lantern-like topology. CP1 is an excellent luminescent sensor for detecting Cu2+, CrO42- and Cr2O72- ions with high selectivity, sensitivity, and recyclability. Moreover, CP1 is the first reported chloride-bridged coordination polymer that is capable of sensing Cu2+ ion. Controlled bottom-up synthesis of amorphous coordination polymers with tailored metal coordination is a research field in its infancy. In this study, synthesis control was achieved to selectively prepare one-dimensional (1D) crystalline and amorphous zinc(II)-based coordination polymers and a dimeric molecular compound, all with similar coordination geometry as evidenced by X-ray diffraction and total scattering studies. The compounds were obtained by bottom up self-assembly of Zn(II) with terephthalate (tph2−) as linker and the enantiopure chelating ligand S-(1,2)-bis(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)ethanol (L). The solvent and the coordination ability of the precursor zinc salt anion control the crystalline products formed by slow diffusion at room temperature: perchlorate allows isolation of the phase pure crystalline 1D polymer {[Zn(tph)(L)]·H2O·3DMF}n (1·H2O·3DMF, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide). In contrast, zinc chloride leads to the formation of either a mixture of polymeric 1·H2O·3DMF and a dimeric molecular species [Zn2Cl2(tph)(L)2]·4DMF (2·4DMF), or to the phase pure dimer 2·4DMF, depending on the Zn(II) : tphH2 stoichiometry. A modified synthesis using zinc nitrate and fast precipitation by base addition results in an amorphous analogue of the 1D polymer (3). Chains of 1·H2O·3DMF pack into a non-porous crystalline material with a surface area of just 6 m2 g−1, while the outer surface area of amorphous polymer 3 is a factor of eight larger. Hence, the amorphous compound provides larger metal site accessibility for potential surface chemical reactions, while maintaining the coordination geometry of the metal sites. The temperature response of crystalline polymer 1·H2O·3DMF was studied using multi-temperature single crystal X-ray diffraction (100–300 K). The a = b axes display normal positive thermal expansion, while the c axis remains constant with increasing temperature due to partial relaxation of the terephthalate linkers and slightly changed geometry within the individual polymer chains. In this manuscript, we report the solvent‐dependent synthesis of 1D coordination polymers derived from two planar N2O2‐coordinate iron(II) complexes FeL1 and FeL2, which incorporate TTF(py)2 as a bridging bis‐monodentate ligand. The obtained 1D polymers were characterized through elemental analysis, Mössbauer spectroscopy, single crystal structure analysis for 2a·2 DMF, magnetic susceptibility measurements, X‐ray powder diffraction, cyclic voltammetry and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, supplemented by DFT computation. The results revealed additive electronic properties of the sub‐units FeL and TTF(py)2 with only minor mutual influence. Intriguingly however, the solvent‐of‐synthesis is found to be a steering factor of the magnetic spin crossover properties of the resulting materials, yielding divergent behavior if obtained from DMF, MeCN or EtOH. This becomes strikingly evident for the magnetic properties of the DMF‐derived polymer which is found trapped in the low‐spin state in the single crystal 2a· 2 DMF, but shows a gradual spin crossover if all solvent is removed.
