Purpose: The EQUATOR Network is an international initiative aimed at improving published health research through use of reporting guidelines. We conducted a review to determine the extent to which EQUATOR Network guidelines contain recommendations relevant for dysphagia research in human subjects. Method: We downloaded all 542 EQUATOR Network guidelines on November 8, 2022. Each guideline was reviewed by two independent raters and judged for relevance to dysphagia and related fields (e.g., otolaryngology, gastroenterology). Dysphagia-relevant guidelines pertaining to quantitative human subjects research were further inspected to identify reporting guidance regarding (a) general research elements (e.g., data collection, statistical methods), (b) participant characteristics (e.g., demographics, accrual, randomization), (c) screening and clinical/noninstrumental assessments, (d) videofluoroscopic examinations, (e) flexible endoscopic examinations, (f) other instrumentation in swallowing research, (g) dysphagia treatment, (h) patient-/care provider-reported outcome measures, and (i) any other narrowly specified focus relevant for research on swallowing. Discrepancies were resolved by consensus. Results: Of 542 guidelines, 156 addressed quantitative research in human subjects relevant to dysphagia. Of these, 104 addressed general research elements and 108 addressed participant characteristics. Only 14 guidelines partially addressed the other topics of interest, and none addressed elements relevant to reporting videofluoroscopic or endoscopic assessments of swallowing. Conclusions: We were unable to find guidelines with specific relevance to reporting key methods in dysphagia research. This lack of guidance illustrates a gap that hinders the critical appraisal of research quality in the field of dysphagia. In this study, we interrogated the efforts adopted by community and technical colleges in a Midwestern state to address racial inequities since the onset of COVID-19. We analyzed such efforts reported in institutional newsletters and associated media through critical content analysis supported by text mining techniques. Our findings demonstrate a notable reckoning with racial inequities on the part of institutional leaders and stakeholders. However, many initiatives remain short-term solutions and are detached from a holistic equity focus. Background: Diabetic foot is a global threat to public health, as it can lead to infections and amputations and cause significant pain and economic costs for patients. Diabetic foot patients in northern China have more severe local ulcers, worse prognosis, and longer disease duration. Objective: This study assessed the foot risk levels and foot care knowledge and behavior status of people with diabetes with different foot risk levels, and investigated the factors that influence the occurrence of high-risk foot in diabetes. Methods: This cross-sectional survey included 410 hospitalized people with diabetes. Demographic and disease-related data and foot risk stratification status were collected using investigator-designed questionnaires. Foot care knowledge and behavior questionnaires were also used. Results: Among the 410 participants, a total of 367 cases were classified as high-risk feet, among which 135 cases were rated as grade 1, 202 cases grade 2, and 30 cases grade 3. Foot care knowledge surveys revealed low scores in the areas of shoe and sock selection, foot and footwear examination, and management of foot problems. Foot care behavior surveys showed low scores in the areas of foot and footwear examination, management of foot problems, and foot injury risk behavior. One-way ANOVA revealed significant differences in foot care behaviors among patients with different foot risk classifications (p < 0.05), while no significant differences were observed in foot care knowledge scores. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age, history of cerebrovascular disease, and foot care behavior scores were factors influencing the occurrence of high-risk foot in people with diabetes. Conclusion: The results of this study showed a high prevalence of high-risk foot in diabetics; The knowledge and behavior of foot care in diabetics with different foot risk levels were both at a moderately low level; There were differences in foot behavior scores among patients with different foot risk classes, but, counter-intuitively, no significant differences in foot care knowledge. The study found that advanced age, history of cerebrovascular disease, and low foot care behavior scores are risk factors for high-risk foot in diabetes. Background: Youth with intellectual disabilities experiencing homelessness are invisible within multiple service sectors. We know little about their experiences of homelessness, or the impacts of such on the social and physical health and well‐being. Methods: We used quantitative and qualitative methods to measure prevalence and learn from key informants and homeless youth with intellectual disabilities about factors leading to and sustaining homelessness, and the implications of such on their social, physical, and mental health and well‐being. The project involved seven co‐researchers with intellectual disabilities and experience of youth homelessness in research design, data collection, analysis, and dissemination. We created Forum Theatre scenes that creatively represent the findings of the project. In this paper we share one of those scenes, as well as the recommendations three co‐researchers with intellectual disabilities have for improving support to homeless youth with intellectual disabilities. Findings: Lack of awareness of and about homeless youth with intellectual disabilities, combined with siloed ways of working by involved sectors, results in significant disadvantage and health inequities for youth. Also revealed was the likelihood this would continue given existing obstacles to accessing appropriate housing and supports to exit homelessness. Conclusion: Services providers, policy makers and representatives of the involved sectors need to recognize and acknowledge homeless youth with intellectual disabilities and take responsibility for learning and working together to develop integrated and responsive approaches to effectively supporting them. However, these services don't know about each other or work together to support homeless youth with intellectual disabilities.Service providers, governments and policy makers need to take responsibility to learn about the lives of homeless youth with intellectual disabilities. Background: In May 2023, Romagna, Italy, faced a devastating flood resulting in 16 fatalities, forced displacement of 26,000 citizens, and significant economic losses. Due to potential water contamination, implementing public health strategies became imperative for the Local Health Authority to mitigate the health consequences, analyze the flood's impact on the local population's health, and detect early anomalies requiring timely public health interventions. Methods: Between June and July 2023, general practitioners who were part of the RespiVirNet surveillance network completed weekly structured forms. These forms collected data on individuals exposed or not to floodwaters and clinical syndromes. Rates per 1000 resident population aged > 14 were stratified by district, week of observation, and symptomatology. Missing data were addressed by imputation using second-order autoregressive modeling. Results: An incidence of 3.52 syndromes potentially related to flood water exposure per 1000 individuals (95% CI 2.82–4.35) was estimated. Ravenna, the city most affected by the flood, recorded the highest rate (6.05 per 1000, 95% CI 4.59–7.82). Incidence decreased in the weeks post-event. Anxiety, or trauma and stress symptoms, exhibited higher rates among the exposed, diminishing over weeks. The incidence for the non-exposed (12.76 per 1000, 95% CI 10.55–15.29) showed no significant territorial differences compared to the exposed ones. Conclusions: Syndromic surveillance provided timely information on the flood's health impact, revealing a higher incidence of individual syndromes among the non-exposed. This study analyzes the relationship between work fatigue and musculoskeletal disorders in gas station operators in Pontianak City. This study used with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consists of 150 gas station workers. Data collection was carried out by observing and interviewing. Respondents characteristics were recorded through interviews using a questionnaire. Data on work fatigue were obtained by interviews using the IFRC questionnaire and musculoskeletal data using the Nordic Body Map questionnaire. The study results show that 50% of workers experience a high level of work fatigue, and 26% of workers experience severe musculoskeletal disorders. There is a significant relationship between work fatigue and musculoskeletal diseases (p = 0.001). The study established the need for intervention as a preventive measure by providing sufficient rest time, stretching, setting work shifts, improving ergonomic work positions for gas station operators, and controlling the work environment through environmental improvement and monitoring and using personal protective equipment. Background: Accurate and feasible assessment of dietary intake remains challenging for research and healthcare. Experience Sampling Methodology (ESM) is a real-time real-life data capturing method with low burden and good feasibility not yet fully explored as alternative dietary assessment method. Methods: This scoping review is the first to explore the implementation of ESM as an alternative to traditional dietary assessment methods by mapping the methodological considerations to apply ESM and formulating recommendations to develop an Experience Sampling-based Dietary Assessment Method (ESDAM). The scoping review methodology framework was followed by searching PubMed (including OVID) and Web of Science from 2012 until 2024. Results: Screening of 646 articles resulted in 39 included articles describing 24 studies. ESM was mostly applied for qualitative dietary assessment (i.e. type of consumed foods) (n = 12), next to semi-quantitative dietary assessment (i.e. frequency of consumption, no portion size) (n = 7), and quantitative dietary assessment (i.e. type and portion size of consumed foods) (n = 5). Most studies used ESM to assess the intake of selected foods. Two studies applied ESM as an alternative to traditional dietary assessment methods assessing total dietary intake quantitatively (i.e. all food groups). ESM duration ranged from 4 to 30 days and most studies applied ESM for 7 days (n = 15). Sampling schedules were mostly semi-random (n = 12) or fixed (n = 9) with prompts starting at 8–10 AM and ending at 8–12 PM. ESM questionnaires were adapted from existing questionnaires, based on food consumption data or focus group discussions, and respond options were mostly presented as multiple-choice. Recall period to report dietary intake in ESM prompts varied from 15 min to 3.5 h. Conclusions: Most studies used ESM for 7 days with fixed or semi-random sampling during waking hours and 2-h recall periods. An ESDAM can be developed starting from a food record approach (actual intake) or a validated food frequency questionnaire (long-term or habitual intake). Actual dietary intake can be measured by ESM through short intensive fixed sampling schedules while habitual dietary intake measurement by ESM allows for longer less frequent semi-random sampling schedules. Background: Mobile Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) is increasingly used to gather intensive, longitudinal data on behavioral nutrition, physical activity and sedentary behavior and their underlying determinants. However, a relevant concern is the risk of non-random non-compliance with mobile EMA protocols, especially in older adults. This study aimed to examine older adults' compliance with mobile EMA in health behavior studies according to participant characteristics, and prompt timing, and to provide recommendations for future EMA research. Methods: Data of four intensive longitudinal observational studies employing mobile EMA to understand health behavior, involving 271 community-dwelling older adults (M = 71.8 years, SD = 6.8; 52% female) in Flanders, were pooled. EMA questionnaires were prompted by a smartphone application during specific time slots or events. Data on compliance (i.e. information whether a participant answered at least one item following the prompt), time slot (morning, afternoon or evening) and day (week or weekend day) of each prompt were extracted from the EMA applications. Participant characteristics, including demographics, body mass index, and smartphone ownership, were collected via self-report. Descriptive statistics of compliance were computed, and logistic mixed models were run to examine inter- and intrapersonal variability in compliance. Results: EMA compliance averaged 77.5%, varying from 70.0 to 86.1% across studies. Compliance differed among subgroups and throughout the day. Age was associated with lower compliance (OR = 0.96, 95%CI = 0.93–0.99), while marital/cohabiting status and smartphone ownership were associated with higher compliance (OR = 1.83, 95%CI = 1.21–2.77, and OR = 4.43, 95%CI = 2.22–8.83, respectively). Compliance was lower in the evening than in the morning (OR = 0.82, 95%CI = 0.69–0.97), indicating non-random patterns that could impact study validity. Conclusions: The findings of this study shed light on the complexities surrounding compliance with mobile EMA protocols among older adults in health behavior studies. Our analysis revealed that non-compliance within our pooled dataset was not completely random. This non-randomness could introduce bias into study findings, potentially compromising the validity of research findings. To address these challenges, we recommend adopting tailored approaches that take into account individual characteristics and temporal dynamics. Background: Social participation of older adults is a crucial component of China's aged care services and an important strategy for actively addressing the aging population. Analyzing policy texts on older people's social participation can inform future policy formulation and the development of relevant programs. Objectives: This study aims to quantitatively analyze the transformation of China's social participation policies for older people from 1999 to 2023, employing institutional network analysis and policy text analysis. Method: A two-dimensional policy analysis framework was constructed based on the perspective of "policy tools and social participation stages." Using Rost Content Mining 6.0 and Nvivo 11.0 Plus software, 55 national-level policy texts were coded. Structural analysis of policy-issuing subjects and topic words was conducted to visualize the findings. Results: The analysis revealed that the policy-issuing subjects demonstrated strong authority but weak coordination, with a lack of communication and cooperation across subjects. The use of policy tools was imbalanced, with an over-reliance on supply-type tools and insufficient use of demand-type tools. Additionally, the lack of effective policy tools to support various social participation stages has limited policy implementation. Conclusion: With technological advancement and changing needs of the elderly population, there is a need for a more systematic and forward-looking top-level design of elderly social participation policies: accelerating the systematization and precision of technological elements in policies for elderly social participation, integrating social organizations via technological platforms to mobilize diverse stakeholder engagement, and addressing the digital divide between the elderly and new technologies is imperative. Background: Schizophrenia is a prevalent psychiatric disorder that affects 1% of the global population. Schizophrenia frequently begins in late adolescence or early adulthood, causing significant educational, social, and economic costs for people and society. Functional neuroimaging research on schizophrenia physiopathology has been beneficial. Arterial spin labelling (ASL) is one of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) technologies that assess brain function without radiation. ASL uses magnetic resonance (MR) imaging to quantify tissue-level brain perfusion non-invasively. Many publications were performed on role of different advanced MRI techniques in schizophrenia, but our study insisted on the added value of combined ASL and MRS over the conventional MRI in schizophrenic Egyptian population sample. Aim of the work: The purpose of this work was to evaluate the added value of combined ASL-perfusion MRI and MRS in schizophrenic patients. Methods: This prospective case–control study was carried out on two groups: First group was 30 patients who were diagnosed clinically as schizophrenic patients, and second group was 20 healthy volunteers as a control group for comparison in the period from August 2021 till July 2022. Results: The majority of newly diagnosed cases had significant higher positive symptoms than chronic cases. According to arterial spin labelling (ASL) data, rCBF was noticed to be reduced in anterior cingulate, frontal lobe, and parietal lobe of both patients' subgroups but more significant in chronically ill patients. Convergent results of decreased rCBF were also found in the parietal lobe and occipital lobe. Magnetic resonance spectroscopic analysis showed that NAA was decreased in the anterior cingulate cortex, thalami and basal ganglia of the newly diagnosed cases more than chronic cases. The ASL-MRI perfusion accurately detected the hypo-perfusion of different brain regions with sensitivity 100%, specificity 66.67%, positive predictive value 96.43%, negative predictive value 100%, and accuracy 96.67%, while MR spectroscopy showed sensitivity 100%, specificity 33.33%, positive predictive value 93.10%, negative predictive value 100%, and accuracy 93.33% in evaluation of changes of brain metabolites. Conclusion: ASL is a promising functional MRI technique that can produce together with MRS quantitative information about the metabolites of different brain regions. The ASL-MRI appears as a reliable non-invasive technique to measure cerebral blood flow and identify decreased rCBF without any contrast administration, and it could be repeatable which helps in early diagnosis as well as follow-up of the progression of the disease. Mold contamination poses a significant challenge in the processing and storage of Chinese herbal medicines (CHM), leading to quality degradation and reduced efficacy. To address this issue, we propose a rapid and accurate detection method for molds in CHM, with a specific focus on Atractylodes macrocephala, using electronic nose (e-nose) technology. The proposed method introduces an eccentric temporal convolutional network (ETCN) model, which effectively captures temporal and spatial information from the e-nose data, enabling efficient and precise mold detection in CHM. In our approach, we employ the stochastic resonance (SR) technique to eliminate noise from the raw e-nose data. By comprehensively analyzing data from eight sensors, the SR-enhanced ETCN (SR-ETCN) method achieves an impressive accuracy of 94.3%, outperforming seven other comparative models that use only the response time of 7.0 seconds before the rise phase. The experimental results showcase the ETCN model's accuracy and efficiency, providing a reliable solution for mold detection in Chinese herbal medicine. This study contributes significantly to expediting the assessment of herbal medicine quality, thereby helping to ensure the safety and efficacy of traditional medicinal practices. Purpose: Buspirone, an anxiolytic with minimal risk of dependence or respiratory depression, lacks extensive published data on its transfer into human milk during lactation. The objective of this study was to 1) quantify the transfer of buspirone and its active metabolite 1-pyrimidinylpiperazine (1-PP) into human milk, allowing for an estimation of maternal drug exposure to the breastfed infant, and 2) report observations of the infants exposed to buspirone via breastmilk. Methods: Milk samples and health histories were collected from nine lactating mothers who donated milk samples to the InfantRisk Human Milk Biorepository while taking buspirone. The drug concentration–time profile of buspirone and 1-PP was determined using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry. Results: Buspirone was below the detection level of 1.5 ng/mL in all milk samples with dosages ranging from 7.5 to 30 mg twice daily. However, low levels of active metabolite 1-PP were observed at 7.5 mg twice daily up to 30 mg twice daily. The relative infant dose (RID) calculated ranged from 0.21 to 2.17%, which is below the standard 10% threshold for infant safety. There were no reports of adverse effects in the exposed infants. Conclusion: The levels of buspirone observed in all participants' milk samples were exceedingly low. The subsequently low relative infant dose (RID) in the range of 0.21% to 2.17% is below the 10% threshold for infant safety, suggesting that the transfer of maternal buspirone and its active metabolite (1-PP) into human milk is clinically insignificant and poses minimal risk to a breastfed infant. Understanding and addressing health care disparities relies on collecting and reporting accurate data in clinical care and research. Data regarding a child's race, ethnicity, and language; sexual orientation and gender identity; and socioeconomic and geographic characteristics are important to ensure equity in research practices and reported outcomes. Disparities are known to exist across these sociodemographic categories. More consistent, accurate data collection could improve understanding of study results and inform approaches to resolve disparities in child health. However, published guidance on standardized collection of these data in children is limited, and given the evolving nature of sociocultural identities, requires frequent updates. The Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network, a multi-institutional network dedicated to pediatric emergency research, developed a Health Disparities Working Group in 2021 to support and advance equitable pediatric emergency research. The working group, which includes clinicians involved in pediatric emergency medical care and researchers with expertise in pediatric disparities and the conduct of pediatric research, prioritized creating a guide for approaches to collecting race, ethnicity, and language; sexual orientation and gender identity; and socioeconomic and geographic data during the conduct of research in pediatric emergency care settings. Our aims with this guide are to summarize existing barriers to sociodemographic data collection in pediatric emergency research, highlight approaches to support the consistent and reproducible collection of these data, and provide rationale for suggested approaches. These approaches may help investigators collect data through a process that is inclusive, consistent across studies, and better informs efforts to reduce disparities in child health. Qualitative research is a relatively new approach for conducting studies in health disciplines. The value of this research approach is to explore peoples' experiences and gain a deeper understanding of the meaning of their experiences. Qualitative inquiries answer research questions about what, why and how by implementing various research designs such as qualitative descriptive, qualitative case study, ethnological, phenomenology, or grounded theory designs. Purposive and snowball sampling methods are commonly used to recruit participants followed by personal interviews or focus group discussions to collect data. Data analysis requires several coding procedures performed by the researcher or an alternative is using a coding software program. Aim: We sought to explore the processes of methodologic and data-analysis triangulation in case studies using the example of research on nurse practitioners in primary health care. Design and methods: We conducted a scoping review within Arksey and O'Malley's methodological framework, considering studies that defined a case study design and used 2 or more data sources, published in English or German before August 2023. Data sources: The databases searched were MEDLINE and CINAHL, supplemented with hand searching of relevant nursing journals. We also examined the reference list of all the included studies. Results: In total, 63 reports were assessed for eligibility. Ultimately, we included 8 articles. Five studies described within-method triangulation, whereas 3 provided information on between/across-method triangulation. No study reported within-method triangulation of 2 or more quantitative data-collection procedures. The data-collection procedures were interviews, observation, documentation/documents, service records, and questionnaires/assessments. The data-analysis triangulation involved various qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis. Details about comparing or contrasting results from different qualitative and mixed-methods data were lacking. Conclusions: Various processes for methodologic and data-analysis triangulation are described in this scoping review but lack detail, thus hampering standardization in case study research, potentially affecting research traceability. Triangulation is complicated by terminological confusion. To advance case study research in nursing, authors should reflect critically on the processes of triangulation and employ existing tools, like a protocol or mixed-methods matrix, for transparent reporting. Aim: To highlight the value of utilizing the Listening Guide methodology for nursing research and provide an exemplar applying this methodology to explore a novel concept in an underrepresented group—inner strength in persons newly diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment along with their care partners. Design: Methodology discussion paper. Methods: The exemplar study used the Listening Guide methods for data elicitation and analysis. Methods included adaptations for the study population and novice qualitative researchers. Results: The Listening Guide methodology with adaptations enabled the research team to centre the voices of persons living with mild cognitive impairment, highlight an abstract phenomenon and attend to the influences of the sociopolitical context. Further, this methodology helped address common challenges emerging qualitative researchers encounter, including understanding methods of application, engaging reflexively and immersing in the data. Conclusion: The Listening Guide is a voice‐centred qualitative methodology that is well suited to foreground the experiences of groups underrepresented in research and explore emerging phenomena. Implications for Nursing: Nurses are central to striving for health equity. The Listening Guide methodology offers a valuable and accessible research tool to understand the experiences and needs of underrepresented groups and shape healthcare in response. Impact: The Listening Guide methodology can be broadly applied to research with persons with mild cognitive impairment, and other underrepresented groups, to explore other phenomena beyond inner strength and move the science forward in representing the perspectives of groups underrepresented by research. Since its release the Power Threat Meaning Framework (PTMF) has received considerable interest and uptake. However, there have not yet been any attempts to review the scope of this emergent literature. This scoping review aimed to identify and synthesize: (1) all empirical research which utilized the PTMF in their methodologies, (2) the characteristics of these studies, (3) the different ways in which these studies utilized the PTMF, and (4) the key findings of these studies. This review was conducted in line with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses (PRISMA) scoping review extension (PRISMA‐ScR). Following systematic searches of academic databases and grey literature, 17 studies meeting eligibility criteria were included. These papers were subject to critical appraisal, data charting, and narrative synthesis. This review identified four uses of the PTMF: (1) PTMF‐informed data collection, (2) PTMF‐informed data analysis, (3) Experiences of/views on the PTMF, and (4) PTMF‐informed psychological practices. This evidence‐base demonstrated the merits of utilizing the PTMF across a range of disciplines, settings, and populations. This heterogeneity also presents challenges for evidence synthesis. Background: Science history is a discipline that teaches the development of scientific thought and the discoveries of scientists. However, these topics can sometimes be abstract and difficult to understand. The use of technology can make the teaching of the history of science more effective, engaging, and accessible. By providing students with visual and interactive experiences, it allows them to better understand abstract concepts and closely follow the discoveries of scientists. In this way, history of science lessons can become more appealing and conducive to learning for students. Objectives: This research aims to design and develop a Mobile Augmented Reality (MAR) environment that can be used for teaching science history. Methods: The research was conducted using a design‐based research method consisting of four stages: Analysis, design, development‐implementation‐evaluation, and reporting. The research involved 10 science teachers and five secondary school students. Data were collected through focus group interviews, individual interviews, notes, audio recordings, and images, and then analysed using content analysis. Results and Conclusions: As a result of the research, a MAR application named TISAR‐3D was developed, which allows students to interactively and visually explore scientists and enrich their learning experience. Implications: The widespread use of the TISAR‐3D application in science history education is recommended, as well as the development of similar MAR applications for other topics. Qualitative research has utilised focus groups and interviews to gather information from participants while conducting ethnographic research. This article explores the potential of alternative forms of collecting data that are more in line with the participants' feelings, emotions and expectations. Charlas (chats) and Comidas (meals) were utilised in an ethnographic study with English teachers and their students in marginalised high schools in Bogotá, Colombia. I found that opening a safe space for participants to share their ideas, suggestions and comments while chatting informally or having a meal encourages leadership of the research process. This generated a sentiment of trust and bond which strengthen their sense of belonging to their academic community. This article contributes to the literature on alternative, critical and decolonial forms of doing research by considering ways to implement methods that acknowledge the cultural and linguistic backgrounds of the participants which strengthen humanising relationships, especially in marginalised contexts. Background We aimed to explore to the possibilities of utilizing automatically accumulating data on health—owned for example by local companies and non-governmental organizations—to complement traditional health data sources in health promotion work at the local level. Methods Data for the PUHTI study consisted of postal code level information on sport license holders, drug purchase and sales advertisements in a TOR online underground marketplace, and grocery sales in Tampere. Additionally, open population register data were utilized. An interactive reporting tool was prepared to show the well-being profile for each postal code area. Feedback from the tool's end-users was collected in interviews. Results The study showed that buying unhealthy food and alcohol, selling or buying drugs, and participating in organized sport activities differed by postal code areas according to its socioeconomic profile in the city of Tampere. The health and well-being planners and managers of Tampere found that the new type of data brought added value for the health promotion work at the local level. They perceived the interactive reporting tool as a good tool for planning, managing, allocating resources and preparing forecasts. Conclusions Traditional health data collection methods—administrative registers and health surveys—are the cornerstone of local health promotion work. Digital footprints, including data accumulated about people's everyday lives outside the health service system, can provide additional information on health behaviour for various population groups. The Boy Scouts of America's (BSA's) Ineligible Volunteer (IV) files, commonly called the "perversion files," is a unique data set allowing researchers to examine organizational characteristics that allow for child sexual victimization. Despite the uniqueness of this data set, few researchers have examined it. The researchers examined a random sample of cases from the IV files of scout leaders who molested scouts. A situational crime theoretical model was employed as had been used in studies on the Catholic Church sexual abuse scandal, proving effective. The researchers examined randomly selected from 1980 to 1999. Of initially examined 400 randomly selected cases, only 140 held retrievable data. The majority of the 140 cases did not have scouting victims, which resulted in a reduction to 48 cases. Beyond the several scouting forms, many files contained public domain information, including newspaper articles, police reports, criminal justice records, and/or records of civil litigation. Through both the scouting documents and the public domain records, the researchers identified six BSA-specific characteristics that allowed motivated adult leaders to molest their victims. These characteristics included (a) weak or inefficient incident reporting system, (b) failure to collect and review pertinent information, (c) organizationally legitimate reasons for one-on-one contact, (d) volunteer imbalance, (e) legitimate reasons for separation from protective adults, and (f) social status as a prophylactic defense. These structural characteristics are explored through descriptive statistics and specific case studies illustrating the phenomena. When the history of the IV files came to light through litigation, the BSA was forced to reconcile its past actions and develop new preventive measures. Background and Objectives Volunteers are the foundation of social service agencies in rural communities, yet limited research exists on their needs and challenges. Motivated by the multidimensional older voluntarism sustainability framework, this study aims to understand (1) the characteristics of volunteers, (2) the relationships between volunteers' sense of community and their own aging and volunteer retention, and (3) the unique challenges faced by volunteers and volunteer-based agencies. Research Design and Methods This study uses a mixed-methods design. Data were gathered via telephone interviews (n = 76) and in-person focus groups (n = 14) from the volunteer pool of a nonprofit organization in rural Michigan. Descriptive and regression analyses were conducted to understand the characteristics of the volunteers. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify unique challenges faced by rural agencies and volunteers. Results Findings show that most volunteers were over 70, women, married, volunteered weekly or more, and were affiliated with multiple agencies. Volunteers with a stronger attachment to the community and higher self-perceptions of aging were likelier to continue and increase volunteering commitments. Due to the low population density in rural areas, volunteers were concerned about the heavy burden of volunteering, the lack of social connections with fellow volunteers, and the lack of active involvement in shaping the organization. Discussion and Implications Results from the study shed light on the urgent need for creative and engaging volunteer recruitment and retention strategies to sustain older adults, service agencies, and communities in rural areas. Objectives: During the coronavirus disease (COVID‐19) pandemic, patients with altered mental status (AMS: dementia, delirium and delirium superimposed on dementia) were profoundly affected by an abrupt transformation in healthcare systems. Here, we evaluated quality‐care outcomes, including length of stay (LOS), in‐hospital mortality, early readmission and mortality after hospital discharge, in older adults admitted for AMS during the pandemic and compared them to patients admitted prior to the pandemic. Methods: Chi‐squared and Fisher's exact tests were used to examine changes to admissions for AMS before and during the pandemic, and their outcomes. Logistic regression analyses, with reference to pre‐pandemic data, were conducted to examine the impact of the pandemic on outcomes. Design: Prospective data of 21,192 non‐COVID admissions to an acute general medical department in a Surrey (UK) hospital were collected from patients admitted before (1st April 2019 to 29th February 2020) and during the pandemic (1st March 2020 to 31st March 2021). Results: There were 10,173 (47.7% men) from the pre‐pandemic and 11,019 (47.5% men) from the pandemic periods; overall mean age = 68.3yr. During the pandemic AMS patients had significantly higher admission rates (1.1% vs 0.6%, P < 0.001). However, median LOS in hospital was shorter (9.0 days [IQR = 5.3–16.2] vs 15.5 days [IQR = 6.2–25.7], P < 0.001) and thus were less likely to stay in hospital >3 weeks: adjusted OR = 0.26 (95%CI = 0.12–0.57). In‐hospital mortality and readmission within 28 days of discharge did not change during the pandemic, but were less likely to die within 30 days of discharge: adjusted OR = 0.32 (95%CI = 0.11–0.96). Conclusions: This combination of higher admission rate, shorter LOS, and an unchanging early readmission suggests a higher admission‐discharge turnover of different patients with AMS and provides important insights into the potential impact of the COVID‐19 pandemic on healthcare delivery to individuals with AMS. Introduction: Situational awareness is essential during emergent procedures such as endotracheal intubation. Previous studies suggest that time distortion can occur during intubation. However, only in-hospital intubations performed by physicians have been studied. We aimed to determine whether time distortion affected paramedics performing intubation by examining the perceived vs actual total laryngoscopy time, defined as time elapsed from the laryngoscope blade entering the mouth until the endotracheal tube balloon passes the vocal cords. Methods: For this retrospective study we collected prehospital intubation data from a suburban, fire department-based emergency medical services (EMS) system from January 5, 2021-May 21, 2022. The perceived total laryngoscopy time was queried as a part of the electronic health record. Video laryngoscopy recordings were reviewed by a panel of experts to determine the actual time. Patients >18 years old who underwent intubation by paramedics with video laryngoscopy were included for analysis. The primary outcome was the difference between actual and perceived total laryngoscopy time. Secondary analysis examined the relationship between high time distortion, defined as the highest quartile of the primary outcome, and patient age, paramedic years of experience, perceived presence of difficult anatomy, excess secretions, use of rapid sequence intubation, and multiple intubation attempts. We conducted descriptive analysis followed by logistic regression analysis, chi-square tests, and Fisher exact tests when appropriate. Results: A total of 122 intubations were collected for analysis, and 10 were excluded due to lack of video recording. Final analysis included 112 intubations. Mean actual laryngoscopy time was 50.0 seconds (s) (95% confidence interval [CI] 43.7-56.3). Mean perceived laryngoscopy time was 27.8 s (95% CI 24.7-31.0). The median difference between actual and perceived time was 18 s (interquartile range 6-30). We calculated high time distortion as having a difference greater than 30 s between actual and perceived laryngoscopy time. None of the secondary variables had statistically significant associations with high time distortion. Overall, we show that the paramedic’s perception of total laryngoscopy time is significantly underestimated even when accounting for paramedic experience and perceived airway difficulty. Conclusion: This study suggests that time distortion may lead to an unrecognized prolonged procedure time. Objectives: In 2018, NHS England mandated that all patients in England should be able to access general practice services outside of ordinary hours. While some patients would access additional hours at their own practice, others would need supra-practice level provision – that is, they would be seen in a different location and by a different care team. The policy aim was to enhance patient access to care, with a particular focus on those who work during the day. This study examines (a) how supra-practice level provision of extended access appointments for general medical problems are operationalised and (b) whether the aims of the policy are being met. Methods: This study presents qualitative comparative case studies of two contrasting service providers offering extended access. The data collected included 30 hours of clinician-patient observations, 25 interviews with staff, managers, and commissioners, 20 interviews with patients, organisational protocols/documentation, and routinely collected appointment data. Thematic analysis ran concurrently with data gathering and facilitated the iterative adaptation of data collection. Results: Three cross-cutting themes were identified: extended access is being used to bolster a struggling primary care system, extended access provides a different service to in-hours general practice, and it is difficult for extended access to provide seamless care. Conclusions: Supra-practice access models can provide effective care for most patients with straightforward issues. Objectives: This study aims to investigate hospital nurses' perceptions of illness due to environmental exposures. Design: A qualitative exploratory study, designed in accordance with the specified reporting guidelines for qualitative research. Sample: Nurses working in Italian hospitals. Methods: Semi‐structured interviews were used to collect data, then evaluated using the framework analysis methodology. Data collection was from January to June 2022 and analysed from July to September 2022. Results: Forty‐two nurses were interviewed. Data analysis revealed three themes: 1) the concept of disease in relation to environmental exposure; 2) the dangers of chemical and physical substances; 3) environmental changes cause concern and a sense of helplessness for the future. Conclusions: The results suggest the need for specific training on topics related to environmental disease types, environmental exposure, preventive measures, health promotion, and environmental impact to support professional development and support nurses in the management of this important aspect of health care. Purpose: Oral health (OH) has significant effects on pregnancy and infant outcomes. This study assesses the perspectives of obstetrical clinicians about OH education and promotion. Methods: A fifteen-item survey was developed and circulated to obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN) and family medicine (FM) physicians, and other prenatal health clinicians in Massachusetts (MA). Additionally, eight physicians were purposively sampled for in-depth interviews to discuss their experience with prenatal OH training and practice. Bivariate relationships between outcome variables from the survey (e.g., previous OH training, awareness of OH guidelines, asking about OH during prenatal visits) were analyzed along with coding and analysis of the qualitative interview data. Results: The majority (77%) of the 86 survey respondents did not feel well-trained in OH. We found significant associations between being well-trained in OH and: (1) awareness of state guidelines (X2 = 11.85, p < 0.001); (2) asking about OH during prenatal visits (X2 = 9.21, p = 0.002); and (3) routinely referring patients for dental care (X2 = 15.35, p < 0.001). Lack of access to dental insurance and dental professionals were found to be major perceived barriers to care. Responses from the interviews reinforced these findings. Significance: Poor oral health is associated with adverse outcomes in pregnancy. This study provided a better understanding of how many prenatal clincians in a state like Massachusetts are trained in oral health. This study has also helped to determine what the associations are between adequate oral health training and various clinical outcomes, as well as what the anticipated major barriers are for prenatal patients with regards to accessing oral health. Research with transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) young people is essential to understand their experiences and to be able to propose, implement and adapt 'services' in the broadest sense to meet their needs. However, research outside clinical settings on current experiences and needs of youth under the age of 18 is limited which hinders the development of knowledge on TGD, as well as the development of research informed support practices. Acquiring parental consent for participatory research may present ethical and logistical difficulties, as it could jeopardize the safety, well-being, or confidentiality of adolescent participants. This creates a tension between the adolescent's right to autonomy, privacy, freedom, and all aspects related to the consent of the underage on the one hand, and the parents' right to protect their child on the other hand. This review aims to identify the methodological and ethical challenges associated with participatory research with transgender and gender-diverse young people. We systematically searched bibliometric databases for studies published between 2006 and 2022 and included 4 main conceptual groups: transgender and gender non-conforming, adolescence, qualitative research (including participatory research) and consent. This review was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42022368360) in November 2022. Of the 3,794 articles initially identified, 291 met the inclusion criteria and 48 were examined. The selected studies were analyzed in the light of four main ethical tensions: involving parents or a trusted person in the consent gathering process, ensuring the protection and safety of young people while respecting confidentiality, and ensuring that spaces are created for transgender and gender-diverse young people to express themselves freely as part of an empowering research process. At the same time, several methodological challenges concerning public and stakeholder participation and recruitment, data collection and analysis as well as research integrity emerged from the selected studies. The existing literature of participatory research involving young transgender and gender-diverse individuals underscores the intricate and conflicting aspects, especially concerning power dynamics, empowerment, and the researcher's role. We conducted a systematic review of studies published in the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis between 2010 and 2020 to identify reports of social validity. A total of 160 studies (17.60%) published during this time included a measure of social validity. For each study, we extracted data on (a) the dimensions of social validity, (b) the methods used for collecting social‐validity data, (c) the respondents, and (d) when social‐validity data were collected. Most social‐validity assessments measured the acceptability of intervention procedures and outcomes, with fewer evaluating goals. The most common method for collecting social validity data was Likert‐type rating scales, followed by non‐Likert‐type questionnaires. In most studies, the direct recipients of the intervention provided feedback on social validity. Social‐validity assessment data were often collected at the conclusion of the study. We provide examples of social‐validity measurement methods, discuss their strengths and limitations, and provide recommendations for improving the future collection and reporting of social‐validity data. Background Subjective cognitive decline (SCD), i.e. self/other-reported concerns on one's cognitive functioning without objective evidence of significant decline, is an indicator of dementia risk. There is little consensus on reliability and validity of the available SCD measures. Therefore, introducing a novel and psychometrically sound measure of SCD is timely. Objective The psychometric properties of a new SCD measure, the McCusker Subjective Cognitive Impairment Inventory–Self-Report (McSCI-S), are reported. Methods Through review of previously published measures as well as our clinical and research data on people with SCD, we developed a 46-item self-report questionnaire to assess concerns on six cognitive domains, namely, memory, language, orientation, attention and concentration, visuoconstruction abilities and executive function. The McSCI-S was examined in a cohort of 526 participants using factor analysis, item response theory analysis and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve. Results A unidimensional model provided acceptable fit (CFI = 0.94, TLI = 0.94, RMSEA [90% CI] = 0.052 [.049, 0.055], WRMR = 1.45). The McSCI-S internal consistency was excellent (.96). A cut-off score of ≥24 is proposed to identify participants with SCDs. Higher McSCI-S scores were associated with poorer general cognition, episodic verbal memory, executive function and greater memory complaints and depressive scores (P  < .001), controlling for age, sex and education. Conclusions Excellent reliability and construct validity suggest the McSCI-S estimates SCDs with acceptable accuracy while capturing self-reported concerns for various cognitive domains. Purpose To describe the development and implementation of clinical dashboards to standardize data capturing and reporting across multiple partner health systems. Summary Between July and September 2020, clinical dashboards were developed and implemented across multiple partner health-system specialty pharmacies (HSSPs) located throughout the United States. The dashboards were developed via collaboration between personnel involved in clinical subcommittees, clinical outcomes, data analytics, information technology, and clinical and central operations. Utilizing a cloud-scale business intelligence service, patient clinical data documented in a shared patient management system was utilized to create customizable dashboards that displayed patient-reported outcome measures, collected laboratory or test results, and completed pharmacist interventions. Separate dashboards were developed for several disease states and/or medication classes. Based on specialty pharmacy recommendations, medical literature, and clinical guidelines, internally developed disease-specific protocols defined data included in the dashboards and ensured consistent data collection amongst partner health systems. Having access to real-time clinical information allows health systems to closely monitor performance metrics, track patient outcomes, and identify operational gaps. Conclusion Accurately capturing and reporting clinical metrics using clinical dashboards can assist HSSPs in delivering high-quality care. Having access to clinical outcome measures allows HSSPs to better understand the impact of their services on patients' health and quality of life. This article examines the development and implementation of a customized Python script utilizing the Elsevier Scopus and Clarivate Web of Science Journal Citation Reports Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). The aim was to streamline and expedite the labor-intensive process of collecting research metrics, which were traditionally compiled manually by librarians at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine Louis Calder Memorial Library. The script significantly reduces the time and effort required to generate comprehensive reports on research productivity, thereby enabling more efficient resource allocation and aiding in faculty evaluations. Importance: Play has been viewed as a critical occupation supporting health since the founding of occupational therapy, but the complexity of play presents challenges to scholars who study adults. Researchers in occupational science and occupational therapy often address experiential qualities of occupations, including those considered to be play. However, the literature lacks clear descriptions of what constitutes adult play as well as the experiences of adults during preferred activities. Objective: To contribute to the body of knowledge on the wide range of preferred activities adults in the United States pursue and may perceive as play experiences. We refer to these activities as adult play because they contain experiential qualities of play described in key play literature. Design: Cross-sectional survey study. Setting: A 31-item survey, the Daily Occupational Experience Survey–revised (DOESr), was uploaded to Qualtrics for data collection using snowball sampling. The online survey link was distributed to participants aged 18–64 years. Participants: The survey was completed by 491 participants. Exploratory factor analysis was used to extract the most prevalent patterns of play experiences reported. Internal consistency and content validity were also examined. Results: The factor analysis yielded an optimal solution of five factors representing distinct patterns of adult play experiences: Creativity–Adventure, Restoration, Deep Engagement, Ludos, and Mastery. Conclusions and Relevance: The five factors identified by the DOESr represent distinct patterns of adult play experiences. The DOESr demonstrated acceptable internal consistency for three of the five factors as well as for the overall tool. Plain-Language Summary: Previous research on adult occupations has not addressed the array of experiences that adults seek or enjoy while engaging in play. This study identified five patterns of adult play experiences. Understanding these patterns may assist occupational therapy practitioners when tailoring clients' play experiences to promote optimal health and well-being. This study investigated the impact of language sample length on mean length of utterance (MLU) and aimed to determine the minimum number of utterances required for a reliable MLU. Conversations were collected from Mandarin-speaking, hard-of-hearing and typical-hearing children aged 16–81 months. The MLUs were calculated using sample sizes ranging from 25 to 200 utterances. The results showed that for an MLU between 1.0 and 2.5, 25 and 50 utterances were sufficient for reliable MLU calculations for hard-of-hearing and typical-hearing children, respectively. For an MLU between 2.5 and 3.75, 125 utterances were required for both groups. For an MLU greater than 3.75, 150 and 125 utterances were required for hard-of-hearing and typical-hearing children, respectively. These findings suggest that a greater number of utterances are required for a reliable MLU as language complexity increases. Purpose: Utilizing a participatory approach, we sought to co-design a 12- week Green Activity Program (GAP) with Hispanic/Latino individuals living with memory challenges and their care partners, local outdoor professionals, and healthcare providers. Methods: Participants were recruited via convenience and snowball sampling in the Bronx, NewYork with Hispanic/Latino persons living withmemory challenges and care partners, outdoor activity professionals, and interdisciplinary healthcare providers/dementia experts. Co-design occurred iteratively with 5 focus groups and 4 individual interviews lasting 30–90min and focused on program and research design. Sessions were recorded and transcribed. Utilizing directed content analysis data was coded using a priori codes program design and research design. Results: 21 participants completed co-design activities: (n = 8 outdoor activity professionals, n = 6 Hispanic/Latino persons living with memory challenges and care partners, and n = 7 interdisciplinary healthcare providers/dementia experts). Participant preferences for program design were captured by subcodes session duration (30–90min), frequency (4–8 sessions), and delivery modes (in-person and phone). Participants' preferred nature activities included group exercise and outdoor crafts [crocheting], outcomes of social participation, connectedness to nature, decreased loneliness, and stewardship were identified. Preferred language for recruiting and describing the program were "memory challenges," "Hispanic/Latino," and "wellbeing." Referral pathways were identified including community-based organizations and primary care. Conclusion: Co-design was a successful form of engagement for people living with memory challenges that enabled participants to help design key elements of the GAP and research design. Our processes, findings, and recommendations for tailoring co-design to engage Hispanic/Latino people living with memory challenges can inform the development of other programs for this population. Purpose. To establish patterns of change in methane content during formation of zones of unloading of rock mass caused by a longwall face progression. Methodology. Determination of gas content (methane content) of coal seams, ash content of Karaganda basin coals, methane content of mine workings was made on the basis of taking and cutting samples from the coal massif in the laboratory of “Management of special maintenance and gasification” of the Coal Department of JSC “Qarmet” according to the DMT methodology (Germany). The chemical structure of gases of k10 seam was determined in the laboratory of Scientific Research Center “Ugol” (Karaganda), as well as by samples of air-gas mixture of degassing wells and in the working area of Saranskaya mine. Findings. A model of geomechanical structurization of rock massif was developed, patterns of methane content changes were established, obtained in specific mining-technological conditions of the mine, which were used for productive and safe work on coal excavation. Originality. For the first time a model of geomechanical structurization of the coal-rock massif in the conditions of longwall faces was developed; a parametric model determining the intervals of the mining pillar to increased methane flows into the minedout space was developed; a connection between the dynamics of geomechanical processes in the mined-out coal-rock massif and the methane content of the mine face was established. The established regularities of change in methane content of mining pillar areas arising at rock shear make it possible to plan degassing of mining area, to provide safe working conditions for miners on gas factor, to forecast the moment of formation of the main roof vaults of different levels and methane emission into the mine face to control mining, which were tested at Saranskaya mine Coal Department of JSC “Qarmet”. Mortality surveillance systems can have limitations, including reporting delays, incomplete reporting, missing data, and insufficient detail on important risk or sociodemographic factors that can impact the accuracy of estimates of current trends, disease severity, and related disparities across subpopulations. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention used multiple data systems during the COVID-19 emergency response—line-level case‒death surveillance, aggregate death surveillance, and the National Vital Statistics System—to collectively provide more comprehensive and timely information on COVID-19‒associated mortality necessary for informed decisions. This article will review in detail the line-level, aggregate, and National Vital Statistics System surveillance systems and the purpose and use of each. Background: The use of unique national personal identification numbers (PIN) for linkage of medical records across health facilities and population-based studies is limited in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) countries. The disintegration of healthcare research with different participant identifiers creates methodological challenges in linking data from multiple sources to answer a diverse range of policy-relevant, clinical, administrative, and research questions. This commentary aims to provide recommendations for improved linkage of health services data in SSA for healthcare research. Main text: Linkage of health services data is a complex process that requires health system thinking, multisectoral collaboration between the public and private sectors, and long-term investments. We recommend transitioning from paper-based healthcare data collection and storage systems, at health facility and population levels, to the use of electronic computer-assisted systems and a focus on improved data quality. SSA countries implementing this transition will benefit from additional technical and financial support. At the health-facility level, change from collecting aggregated to individual-level data. The use of PIN across multiple data sources is paramount, in addition to clear and transparent legal and ethical data protection and sharing guidelines, centralized data linkage by the governments, and partnerships with the private sector. Introduction: The All of Us Research Program (Program) is an ongoing epidemiologic cohort study focused on collecting lifestyle, health, socioeconomic, environmental, and biological data from 1 million US-based participants. The Program has a focus on enrolling populations that are underrepresented in biomedical research (UBR). Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) are a key recruitment stream of UBR participants. The Program is digital by design where participants complete surveys via web-based platform. As many FQHC participants are not digitally ready, recruitment and retention is a challenge, requiring high-touch methods. However, high-touch methods ceased as an option in March 2020 when the Program paused in-person activities because of the pandemic. In January 2021, the Program introduced Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) to help participants complete surveys remotely. This paper aims to understand the association between digital readiness and mode of survey completion (CATI vs. web-based platform) by participants at FQHCs. Methods: This study included 2,089 participants who completed one or more surveys via CATI and/or web-based platform between January 28, 2021 (when CATI was introduced) and January 27, 2022 (1 year since CATI introduction). Results and discussion: Results show that among the 700 not-digitally ready participants, 51% used CATI; and of the 1,053 digitally ready participants, 30% used CATI for completing retention surveys. The remaining 336 participants had “Unknown/Missing” digital readiness of which, 34% used CATI. CATI allowed survey completion over the phone with a trained staff member who entered responses on the participant’s behalf. Regardless of participants’ digital readiness, median time to complete retention surveys was longer with CATI compared to web. CATI resulted in fewer skipped responses than the web-based platform highlighting better data completeness. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of using CATI for improving response rates in online surveys, especially among populations that are digitally challenged. Analyses provide insights for NIH, healthcare providers, and researchers on the adoption of virtual tools for data collection, telehealth, telemedicine, or patient portals by digitally challenged groups even when in-person assistance continues to remain as an option. Background: The objective of this study was to evaluate the potential of zoledronic acid for reducing the incidence of cage subsidence and enhancing interbody fusion rates following oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) surgery, particularly as the first reported evidence of the role of zoledronic acid combined with OLIF. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on data from 108 elderly patients treated for degenerative lumbar diseases using OLIF combined with bilateral pedicle screw fixation from January 2018 to December 2021. Patients were divided into the zoledronic acid (ZOL) group (43 patients, 67 surgical segments) and the control group (65 patients, 86 surgical segments). A comparative analysis of the radiographic and clinical outcomes between the groups was performed, employing univariate and multivariate regression analyses to explore the relationships between cage subsidence and the independent variables. Results: Radiographic outcomes, including anterior height, posterior height, disc height, coronal disc angle, foraminal height, and lumbar lordosis, were not significantly different between the two groups. Similarly, no statistically significant differences were noted in the back visual analog scale (VAS) scores and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores between the groups. However, at the 1-year follow-up, the leg VAS score was lower in the ZOL group than in the control group (P = 0.028). The ZOL group demonstrated a notably lower cage subsidence rate (20.9%) than did the control group (43.0%) (P < 0.001). There was no significant difference in the interbody fusion rate between the ZOL group (93.0%) and the control group (90.8%). Non-use of zoledronic acid emerged as an independent risk factor for cage subsidence (OR = 6.047, P = 0.003), along with lower bone mineral density, lower postoperative anterior height, and concave endplate morphology. The model exhibited robust discriminative performance, with an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.872. Conclusion: The administration of zoledronic acid mitigates the risk of cage subsidence following OLIF combined with bilateral pedicle screw fixation in elderly patients; however, it does not improve the interbody fusion rate. Objective: Patients with cancer undergoing curative-intent cancer surgery may require intraoperative blood transfusions. However, blood transfusions are not benign and can alone lead to increased risk of complications, infections, and mortality. This research was conducted to help understand this intervention's long-term complications (at 1 year postoperatively) to help improve approaches to managing these patients' complications. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective cohort study. Data for analysis were collected from the cases of all patients who received blood transfusions during curative cancer surgery at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, Tampa, FL, from December 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021. Results: In this timeframe, 604 patients had curative-intent cancer surgery, and 32 of them had intraoperative blood transfusions. Of the 32, 19 survived 1 year postoperatively while 13 died within 1 year postoperatively. Patients who died within that 1 year had significantly higher rates of vascular complications (p < 0.006). Additionally, 18/32 (54.54%) received more than 1 unit of blood. At that 1-year mark, there was no notable disparity observed between the 2 groups (1 unit versus multiple units of transfused blood) with regard to postoperative complications, mortality rates, or durations of hospital stay. Conclusions: Patients who did not survive 1 year postoperatively had many more vascular complications (e.g., pulmonary embolism and deep-vein thrombosis), compared to patients who survived to the same postoperative time point. Objective: To analyze the clinical characteristics, incidence, and distribution of drug-associated muscle adverse reactions (DAMAR) in real-world inpatients, to provide valuable references for clinical medication use. Methods: We conducted an automatic retrospective monitoring of inpatients from May 1, 2022, to April 30, 2023, to collect information on adverse drug reactions (ADR) of patients and conducted subsequent analyses. Results: Among 102,430 hospitalizations, 1106 cases of DAMARs were identified, yielding an incidence of 1.08%, including 125 cases of rhabdomyolysis at an incidence of 0.12%. Seventy-five percent of the patients experienced muscle adverse reactions within 5 days after taking medication, with a median elevated creatine kinase (CK) value of 420.4 IU/L. Risk factors of DAMAR include age ≥ 65, male sex, obesity, hypertension, hepatic and renal insufficiency, and anemia. No significant correlation was observed between the duration of surgery and CK elevation, while the surgical procedure itself had an impact. The 114 drugs associated were predominantly nervous system drugs, anti-infectives for systemic use, and cardiovascular system drugs, with levofloxacin, pregabalin, and parecoxib being the most frequently associated drugs. Conclusion: Healthcare professionals should be vigilant with patients exhibiting the identified risk factors. Critical incidents are unanticipated events (either positive or negative) that teachers may encounter during a lesson or other situation causing them to reflect on their approach and change accordingly..Critical incidents have great potential for learning as they are vividly remembered and set the conditions for systematic reflection. However, despite the importance of the critical incident technique for professional learning in Initial Teacher Education (ITE), it is not generally used in teacher education programmes until the practicum stage when video-analysis is used. This study aims to analyse student teachers' individual and group reflections regarding two cases recorded on video in Portugal and Spain. Under the context of an Erasmus research project entitled 'Digital Practicum 3.0: Exploring Augmented Reality, Remote Classrooms, and Virtual Learning to enrich and expand preservice teacher education preparation (2020–1-ES01-KA226-HE - 096,120)' two cohorts of 39 and 22 student teachers, respectively, reflected upon two critical incidents previously selected by the student teachers who had taught the two lessons that were video recorded. They had to watch the videos and analyse the incidents both in group discussion and individual reflection. OBJECTIVES: Establish the longitudinal cross-lagged associations between maltreatment exposure and child behavior problems to promote screening and the type and timing of interventions needed. METHODS: The Longitudinal Studies of Child Abuse and Neglect, a multiwave prospective cohort study of maltreatment exposure, enrolled children and caregivers (N = 1354) at approximately age 4 and followed them throughout childhood and adolescence. Families completed 7 waves of data collection with each wave occurring 2 years apart. Maltreatment was confirmed using official case records obtained from Child Protective Services. Six-month frequencies of behavior problems were assessed via caregiver-report. Two random-intercept, cross-lagged panel models tested the directional relations between maltreatment exposure and externalizing and internalizing behaviors. RESULTS: Maltreatment exposure predicted increases in externalizing behaviors at ages 8 (b = 1.06; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.14-1.98), 12 (b = 1.09; 95% CI 0.08-2.09), and 16 (b = 1.67; 95% CI 0.30-3.05) as well as internalizing behaviors at ages 6 (b = 0.66; 95% CI 0.03-1.29), 12 (b = 1.25; 95% CI 0.33-2.17), and 14 (b = 1.92; 95% CI 0.76-2.91). Increases in externalizing behaviors predicted maltreatment exposure at age 12 (odds ratio 1.02; 95% CI 1.00-1.05). CONCLUSIONS: Maltreatment exposure is robustly associated with subsequent child behavior problems, strengthening inferences about the directionality of these relations. Early screening of externalizing behaviors in pediatric settings can identify children likely to benefit from intervention to reduce such behaviors as well as prevent maltreatment exposure at entry to adolescence. In palliative care in the UK, occupational and/or physiotherapists consult with patients to assess how they are managing their activities for daily living in light of their life-limiting condition(s), and to identify any activities that might benefit from therapeutic intervention. In this paper we use conversation analysis to describe a patient's practice in these consultations, which we call "procedural detailing," whereby they produce a step-by-step description of how they do some everyday activity, such that it is depicted as adequate, stable, and unproblematic. Based on a collection of 15 cases identified in video recordings of consultations in a large English hospice, we demonstrate how patients use this practice to normalize their routine conduct and thereby reject or rule out an actual or anticipated therapeutic recommendation. Our analysis suggests that such descriptions let patients participate in shared decision-making by revealing their preference for routines that preserve their level of independence and dignity. The transformative impact of disruptive technologies on the restructuring of the times has attracted widespread global attention. This study aims to analyze the characteristics and shortcomings of China's artificial intelligence (AI) disruptive technology policy, and to put forward suggestions for optimizing China's AI disruptive technology policy. Develop a three-dimensional analytical framework for "policy tools-policy actors-policy themes" and apply policy tools, social network analysis, and LDA topic model to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the utilization of policy tools, cooperative relationships among policy actors, and the trends in policy theme settings within China's innovative AI technology policy. We find that the collaborative relationship among the policy actors of AI disruptive technology in China is insufficiently close. Marginal subjects exhibit low participation in the cooperation network and overly rely on central subjects, forming a "center-periphery" network structure. Policy tool usage is predominantly focused on supply and environmental types, with a severe inadequacy in demand-side policy tool utilization. Policy themes are diverse, encompassing topics such as "Intelligent Services" "Talent Cultivation" "Information Security" and "Technological Innovation", which will remain focal points. Under the themes of "Intelligent Services" and "Intelligent Governance", policy tool usage is relatively balanced, with close collaboration among policy entities. However, the theme of "AI Theoretical System" lacks a comprehensive understanding of tool usage and necessitates enhanced cooperation with other policy entities. The data sources and experimental scope are subject to certain limitations, potentially introducing biases and imperfections into the research results, necessitating further validation and refinement. The study introduces a three-dimensional analysis framework for disruptive technology policy texts, which is significant for formulating and enhancing disruptive technology policies. This study utilizes text mining and content analysis techniques to quantitatively analyze disruptive technology policy texts. It systematically evaluates China's AI policies quantitatively, focusing on policy tools, policy actors, policy themes. Objective: With advances in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology, nonspecific white matter lesions (NSWMH) are often incidentally detected on T2-weighted images. The origin of these lesions is unknown. In younger individuals, these findings may prompt consideration of multiple sclerosis (MS) as a possible diagnosis. In the presence of these lesions, the misinterpretation of radiological diagnostic criteria can lead to the overdiagnosis of MS. This study aims to address the management of patients with NSWMH. Method: This retrospective study involved patients referred to our MS outpatient clinic, suspected of having MS following the detection of T2-hyperintense lesions, who were subsequently diagnosed with NSWMH between 2017 and 2021. We collected data on patients' medical complaints, neurological examinations, brain MRI findings, and results from additional investigations from our hospital's data system. Results: The study included 70 patients (87.1% female), with an average age of 40.87±8.13 years (range, 19 to 55 years). The average follow-up period was 22.1±16.5 months. MRI analysis showed the number and location of lesions to be subcortical (12.06±14.01), cortical/juxtacortical (1.2±2.2), periventricular (0.91±1.42), in the corpus callosum (0.38±0.23), and in the posterior fossa (0.05±0.07). Lesions were bilaterally located in 63% of cases. Only two patients developed new lesions, as observed in the first follow-up MRI, with no further changes in subsequent MRIs during the long-term follow-up. Conclusion: Neurologists need to distinguish between NSWMH and MS lesions.
