Information technology (IT) is transforming the world. Therefore, exposing students to computing at an early age is important. And, although computing is being introduced into schools, students from a low socio-economic status background still do not have such an opportunity. Furthermore, existing computing programs may need to be adjusted in accordance to the specific characteristics of these students in order to help them to achieve the learning goals. Aiming at bringing computing education to all middle and high-school students, we performed a systematic literature review, in order to analyze the content, pedagogy, technology, as well as the main findings of instructional units that teach computing in this context. First results show that these students are able to learn computing, including concepts ranging from algorithms and programming languages to artificial intelligence. Difficulties are mainly linked to the lack of infrastructure and the lack of pre-existing knowledge in using IT as well as creating computing artifacts. Solutions include centralized teaching in assistive centers as well as a stronger emphasis on unplugged strategies. However, there seems to be a lack of more research on teaching computing to students from a low socio-economic status background, unlocking their potential as well to foster their participation in an increasing IT market.

This study aims to examine the impact of interdisciplinary computational thinking (CT) skills training on primary school teachers' perceptions of CT skills. The sample of the study consisted of 30 primary school teachers in Istanbul. In this study, where quantitative and qualitative methods were used together, qualitative data were obtained from the teacher identification form. Quantitative data were obtained from the scale for CT skills. After the pre-test was applied to the study group, "CT Skills Training" was applied. During the training, the basic concepts of CT skills and the subskills were covered theoretically and practically. From the quantitative data, the education applied was determined to have had a positive effect on the primary school teachers' perceptions of CT skills. From the qualitative data, it was determined that the participants had a positive opinion about the applied training and thought that they gained skills related to CT.

The purpose of this research was to analyze the confirmatory components of the computational thinking learning competency measurement model. The sample group consisted of 240 students in the Bachelor of Education Program in Computer and Digital Technology for Education in Years 2-4 of five of the Rattanakosin Rajabhat Universities. Data collection involved the use of a 5-level (Level 5 indicates that the student's awareness is at the highest level while Level 1 indicates that the student's awareness is at the lowest level) checklist questionnaire after which confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was performed. The results of the research found that the model created by the researcher has 3 components: knowledge, skills, and attributes which are latent variables, and which are consistent with the empirical data with Chi-Square values. The results are statistically significant at the 0.01 level (Chi-Square=47.680, p=0.112, df=37, Relative Chi-Square Ratio=1.288, GFI=0.970, AGFI=0.930, CFI=1.000, SRMR=0.035, RMSEA=0.035), which meets the specified criteria.

This study was based on online university education during the COVID-19 period in Kenya. The purpose of the study was to establish the readiness of Kenyan universities for online education during COVID-19 period. Online survey method generated data from 11 universities through content analysis. The data were analyzed qualitatively and interpreted. The major findings showed that majority of the universities under study adjusted in different ways during the COVID-19 period by hiring more teaching staff to teach online, however, the capacity of these job applicants to competently teach online courses was not clearly verified before they were hired to teach at the university. The study also found that even though majority of the universities had a functional Learning Management System (LMS), its utilization was below par. The study concluded that many universities did not offer quality online education as required by the Commission of University Education (CUE) in Kenya but were using online education language for marketing and sustainability purposes. To reduce the digital gap in institutions of higher learning, the study recommended that all teaching staff at the university level must be computer literate.

The work landscape is evolving with the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), potentially rendering current jobs obsolete and necessitating new skills or retraining of existing occupations for future employment. This revolution is disrupting nearly every sector, including education, highlighting the need for education to address issues like unemployment, poverty, and inequality. However, to adequately prepare learners, this can only be achieved with sufficient material and human resources. Understanding these dynamics is crucial in determining whether school leaders and teachers possess the power or autonomy to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and competencies to empower learners for the 4IR. Power, the ability to achieve organizational objectives, is essential for school leaders and teachers responsible for information and communication technologies in schools to acquire the resources and competencies needed for the 4IR. Drawing on critical theory, this qualitative study explores how school leaders and teachers experience powerlessness due to the challenges they encounter in preparing learners for the 4IR. Semi-structured interviews facilitated participants' reflections and meaning-making of their experiences in this regard. The critical analysis of data yielded themes that underscore the complexities of preparing learners for the 4IR in underserved contexts ill-equipped for such endeavours: time constraints; teacher uncertainty; insufficient infrastructure, incapacitating influence of powerful top management; and detrimental control of district circuits. Participants felt constrained within their job descriptions, lacked the freedom to exert authority over their work, and faced obstacles in making independent decisions and implementing necessary changes.

Most students in higher education at present are 'digital natives.' They use technology in every facet of their life, including their education. They learn from formally organised courses as well as from informal learning. Hence, informal learning has been identified as crucial for the sustainability of higher education in the current global context. Technology facilitates informal learning and, thus, has made substantial changes in how learning occurs in modern age learners. These changes that occurred in the learning process due to the influence of technology should be addressed by the educational approaches used in higher education to achieve the best outcomes in relation to the academic performance of students and students' satisfaction. This commentary presents an educational approach: 'Connective Alignment' for higher education in the digital age, which can fulfil the learning needs of the learners in this digital age.

This study investigated the digital existence of the food bank users in a university town in Texas, and subsequently, aligned with the research's pragmatic focus, the researchers designed a training model for these food bank users. Two research questions guided the study: What are the digital existence levels of the food bank users, and what training model would best serve these food bank users? Data were collected by means of a survey from 230 individual food bank users representing households. Additional data included observations and conversations with food bank staff, and documents and materials from the site which provided deeper insights. The study found that the food bank users (1) had little to no broadband connectivity; (2) possessed limited digital devices which revealed significant barriers to their digital existence; and (3) had feelings of desperation, vulnerability and isolation. Regarding training offered at no cost, the food bank users did not show much interest, which was attributed to the food bank users' insufficient digital knowledge. The three-level training model was designed with the following objectives: (1) Prepare participants for training; (2) introduce the concept of "digital;" and (3) teach basic computing and cybersecurity skills. To implement this training, an interactive learner-centric model was created demonstrating collaboration among university instructors, volunteer students and the food bank staff. The study concluded that to exist in digital societies affordable broadband connectivity, needs-based devices, and continual support and training were needed for such underserved groups.

In many classrooms across the globe, students are expected to comprehend and produce handwritten and computer-generated texts as soon as they start school. As we progress towards digitalisation in education, it has become necessary to understand the effects of writing modality on students' literacy performance and development. The current meta-analysis integrates findings from 22 international studies involving 6168 participants, comparing the effects of handwriting and keyboarding on the writing and reading performance of primary-aged students. Moderator analyses were executed to determine if grade level, keyboarding experience, timed measurement of letter writing, types of tasks measuring letter writing fluency, and study design moderated modality effects on writing outcomes. Results revealed a significant effect size when comparing writing quality between handwriting and keyboarding, with students producing better quality passages via handwriting than keyboarding (ES = 0.53). Results also revealed that only grade level significantly moderated the effect size for letter writing fluency and written word production. Findings indicated that handwriting and keyboarding practices are associated with improvements on specific reading skills in primary education, with no clear superiority of modality. We discuss implications for literacy research and teaching both locally and globally.

This research explored teachers' readiness for teaching in times of uncertainty and in global crisis situations through the perspective of teacher agency. Understanding the mechanisms by which teachers exercise their transformative agency was the main research aim. Teacher agency is conceptualized as a phenomenon that emerges ecologically from the interactions of individuals' capacities with the contexts and conditions in which they act. Thus, teachers are key figures upon which the possibility for transformation rests. The current research yielded three major mechanisms: (1) personal beliefs, emotions, values and attributes; (2) technical infrastructure, digital skills and teaching resources; (3) organizational infrastructure. This study highlights the importance of understanding the significance of teachers' transformative agency in times of crisis, as it applies to crisis situations in which means of transcending contradictory and conflicting impasses to transformative growth are sought.

This study reports on the usefulness of computer skills for enhanced teaching and learning among lecturers in an open-distance e-learning (ODEL) environment. Computer skills have become fundamental due to increasing new technological tools of web-based management systems, laptops, digital tablets, learning management systems, webinars, and the applications of Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and WhatsApp manufactured daily. The quantitative research approach was employed in this study where data was collected through an online questionnaire from respondents in two ODEL institutions. The purposive and snowball sampling technique was applied to enable reaching out to lecturers with whom the author has contact in the two ODEL institutions. First, the author purposively approach those in his contacts, before requesting those lecturers he contacted to help spread the good news of his research investigation to other of their contacts. The study sampled 80 lecturers from both countries' ODEL institutions leading to sending out 80 copies of the online questionnaire to the lecturers. Of the 80 online questionnaires sent, only 50 were received. The results obtained were analyzed using Microsoft Excel presented in frequency and percentage. Findings reveal that the purpose of computer skills is to enhance teaching and learning among Lecturers in the ODEL environment between the country's institutions. Exposition to programming languages and applications, ability to navigate within the online platform, use of communication/networking tools of social media of Facebook, Twitter, and teleconferencing tools of Zoom, Skype, Webinar, Webcast, Teams, WhatsApp) were profoundly enabled through computer skills. Findings further indicate that computer skills have influenced lecturers for personal development in multifarious ways, user experience, memory usage, and storage of information, ease students grading, and developing course materials, facilitate instructional delivery of courses/modules taught at a geometric progression, and support lecturers using the asynchronous and synchronous method in teaching and learning. Based on the findings, the study recommends upskilling lecturers to advance their knowledge in computer skills through continual use of new technologies for better and quality services in teaching and learning to meet students' information needs.

This review study aims to understand the concept of adults' digital health literacy (DHL), a recently emerging significant concept but still confused. For this, we seek to find the core competencies of digital health literacy by comparing those of existing relevant literacy concepts (i.e., health literacy and digital literacy). We identified seven core competencies of DHL across analytical, context-specific, and socioecological aspects: (a) traditional literacy, (b) information literacy, (c) media literacy, (d) health-related literacy, (e) technology literacy, (f) scientific literacy, and (g) socioecological nature. We also found the shared core aspects among DHL and digital and health literacies. The findings of this study contributed not only to grasping the concept of digital health literacy better but also to providing a fundamental basis for programs to enhance the DHL of adults. This article concludes with discussions about the findings and practical and academic implications.

Background: AI can positively influence teaching by offering support for classroom management, creating inclusive learning environments, enhancing digital skills, personalizing teaching methods, and strengthening teacher-student relationships. Objectives: This quantitative research study investigates the opportunities, difficulties, and consequences of incorporating AI into teacher education. Methods: Data were collected through structured questionnaires from 202 college students and 68 staff members. The analysis was conducted using SPSS software. Results: The study provides a novel contribution by its thorough investigation of the diverse effects of AI on teacher education. It offers beneficial perspectives on the possible benefits and challenges, illuminating the far-reaching changes that AI could bring to the terrain of learning and instruction and teaching methods in the time yet to come. The research sought to assess the effect of AI adoption in teacher education across five main dimensions: (i) its influence on teaching support and classroom management, (ii) its role in creating inclusive and accessible learning environments, (iii) its contribution to improving teachers' digital literacy and computer skills, and enhancing access to digital teaching resources, (iv) its positive influence on identifying students' learning styles and facilitating the adoption of diverse teaching methods, and (v) its role in strengthening teacher-student relationships through improved interactions. Conclusion: The findings elucidate the promising opportunities that AI presents in the field of teacher education, along with the obstacles that require resolution for the effective fusion of AI educational settings.

Digital technologies can lead to the provision of innovative opportunities for academic entrepreneurship. However, investigations on the rationale for the adoption of digital technologies for academic entrepreneurship, particularly in emerging economies, remain limited. As a result, the determinants of digital technology adoption for academic entrepreneurship are not fully understood. Drawing on technology adoption and entrepreneurship literature, we propose a research model to investigate the adoption of social media -- a type of digital technology - for entrepreneurial activities among students in academic settings. Based on survey data collected from 312 participants, and a partial least square structural equation modeling technique for analysis, this study shows that computer self-efficacy and perceived enjoyment significantly influence perceived ease of use. In addition, perceived job relevance and perceived ease of use significantly influence perceived usefulness. Furthermore, perceived ease of use and students' perceived entrepreneurial feasibility significantly affect behavioral intention. Moreover, the study shows that behavioral intention significantly affects actual usage. Through these findings, our study advances knowledge on the antecedents of social media adoption for entrepreneurship in academic settings in emerging economies.

Integrating graduate education with professional skills development is still a challenge. People's beliefs about learning impact their learning processes. Therefore, we need to understand the mindset of graduates to determine best practices for promoting professional skills development. In this study, we explore the perspective of computing graduates within an Engineering educational program. This study aims to answer the following research questions: Which skills do computing graduates perceive they need in the workplace, and how do they position themselves regarding these skills? What learning beliefs do computing graduates hold regarding the skills required in the workplace? The research team conducted semistructured interviews with computing graduates within an Engineering program to analyze their experiences. The interviews were analyzed using grounded theory. As a result, the participants viewed professional and technical skills as independent, with professional skills perceived as more relevant to work success. The participants considered themselves to possess these skills. Our findings identify four learning beliefs within a fixed and growth mindset: (1) An essential personal characteristic that context may influence; (2) a learning outcome determined by early experiences; (3) a learning process associated with informal learning experiences; and (4) a learning process associated with formal learning experiences. We acknowledge the differences in perception between alums and the industry regarding possessing essential professional skills. We also highlight the need to position these skills as learnable during lectures contributing to Computing and Engineering Education.

Background: With the development of computational literacy, there has been a surge in both research and practice application of text-based and block-based modalities within the field of computer programming education. Despite this trend, little work has actually examined how learners engaging in programming process when utilizing these two major programming modalities, especially in the context of secondary education settings. Objectives: To further compare programming effects between and within text-based and block-based modalities, this research conducted a quasi-experimental research in China's secondary school. Methods: An online programming platform, Code4all, was developed to allow learners to program in text-based and block-based modalities. This research collected multimodal data sources, including programming platform data, process data, and performance data. This research further utilized multiple learning analytics approaches (i.e., clustering analysis, click stream analysis, lag-sequential analysis and statistics) to compare learners' programming features, behavioural patterns and knowledge gains under two modalities. Results and Conclusions: The results indicated that learners in text-based modality tended to write longer lines of code, encountered more syntactical errors, and took longer to attempt debugging. In contrast, learners in block-based modality spent more time operating blocks and attempt debugging, achieving better programming knowledge performances compared to their counterparts. Further analysis of five clusters from the two modalities revealed discrepancies in programming behavioural patterns. Implications: Three major pedagogical implications were proposed based on empirical research results. Furthermore, this research contributed to the learning analytics literature by integrating process-oriented and summative analysis to reveal learners' programming learning quality.

The basis for the inclusion of Christian Religious Studies (CRS) into the primary school curriculum in Nigeria was particular to the learning of morals and the development of societally acceptable values and attitudes. Presently, Nigeria is experiencing a high level of social vices, immoralities and an unprecedented amount of anti-social behaviours among youths. Of course, the considerable amount of problems generated by the increasing immoralities among primary school pupils of Lagos State was attributed to effectiveness in the teaching methodologies used for teaching and learning of CRS. Contemporarily, the use of computer-based technologies and digital tools for classroom teaching and learning proved to be effective because it engages primary school pupils. This study focused on the use of digital storytelling in the teaching and learning of CRS in Lagos State primary schools. The research was carried out to study the attitudes of primary school pupils toward CRS after the use of the "Teacher-Led Digital Storytelling Strategy" (TLDSS). Data obtained from the intervention revealed that primary school pupils exposed to TLDSS had the highest adjusted post-value acquisition mean score in CRS of 53.86. Again, there were observations from the study that primary school pupils exposed to TLDSS were significantly different from those exposed to conventional strategies (CS) in the teaching and learning of CRS in terms of value acquisition. The findings showed the effectiveness of the use of TLDSS for primary school pupils of Lagos State because TLDSS enhances primary school pupils' acquisition of values, achievement and development of positive attitude to CRS.

The increasing use of computer-based mode in language testing raises concern over its similarities with and differences from paper-based format. The present study aimed to delineate discrepancies between TOEFL PBT and CBT. For that objective, a quantitative method was employed to probe into scores equivalence, the performance of male-female participants, the relationship between completion time and test score, and test mode's effects on participants' performance. Totally, 124 undergraduates partook in the current research whose ages ranged from 19-21 years (M = 20, SD = 0.66). To analyze the data, MANOVA, Pearson correlation, and regression tests were run. The findings uncovered that: (1) PBT and CBT were equivalent in scores; (2) male and female's scores were not significantly different; (3) there was a moderately negative correlation between completion time and score; (4) computer familiarity, habit in using computers, and perception toward CBT did not affect performance in TOEFL. For researchers, the implication of this study concerns the interchangeability of the two-test modes. For CBT test designers, it concerns the appropriate inclusion of visuals, time related measurement, and procedures to design computer-based tests.

Peer relationships play important roles in middle-school students' individual development. Peer support is indispensable in computer-supported learning contexts. This study is designed to explore the connection between perceived peer support and deeper learning, while examining the mediating role of computer self-efficacy and perceived classroom mastery goal structure. 412 middle school students in northwest China were sampled by constructing the structural equation model (SEM) in this study. The results displayed that perceived peer support had no direct positive predictive effect on deeper learning. Computer self-efficacy completely mediated in perceived peer support and deeper learning. Perceived classroom mastery goal structure completely mediated in perceived peer support and deeper learning. Computer self-efficacy and perceived classroom mastery goal structure played a chain mediating effect in perceived peer support and deeper learning. These findings not only deepen our comprehend of the internal mechanism about peer relationships in promoting deeper learning, but also provide constructive suggestions on how to maintain positive peer relationships among students in computer-supported teaching situations, so as to improve students' digital literacy and skills from the dimension of satisfying their social emotional needs.

Cyber-wisdom is the ability to know and do the right thing at the right time, when using digital technologies, and is a concept that is gaining attention from educators. Whilst the theory and practice of cyber-wisdom education is established, to date there has been no attempt to investigate how the virtue of cyber-wisdom might be measured. This is a lacuna as it limits future research in the area, including, in particular, proximal evaluations of cyber-wisdom interventions. This article introduces a new four-component measure of cyber-wisdom, which is relevant to how the virtue may be cultivated in practice via formal education and the teaching of what is generally referred to as digital citizenship education. The measure was piloted with 1,331 13--16 year-olds. The findings provide initial evidence that cyber-wisdom literacy, reasoning, reflection, and motivation can be measured. This study provides preliminary validation of cyber-wisdom sub-measures that might be used in evaluations of educational interventions that seek to help children and adolescents live with wisdom in the digital age.

Student profiling on the use of technology for teaching, learning and assessment has the potential to enable educators to enhance their transformational teaching strategies. Therefore, this study explored the views of students on use of technology to facilitate online learning during COVID-19. The study employed a quantitative approach to collect data using a Google Form questionnaire. Nineteen conveniently sampled respondents (38%) were drawn from a population of 50 students registered for first-year BSc Microbiology and BSc Environmental Biology in 2021. The collected data was analysed through descriptive statistics using Microsoft Excel 2010. The findings revealed that during online learning some students (63%) experienced challenges related to subject knowledge acquisition. A majority of the students (84%) preferred face-to-face or blended teaching learning and assessment to ensure pedagogic access. It is concluded that students' exposure to online learning helped improve skills, such as typing (79%), internet information searching (95%) and general computer skills (89%). Thus, it is recommended that academics and students should be assisted with training, and higher education curricula should encourage the use of digital technology, which prepares students to be relevant in the digital society.

Digital disruption is not a new phenomenon in education; however, it has become more prominent during the COVID-19 pandemic due to school closures and the related emergency remote teaching (ERT) period. Our study aims to explore the different pedagogical strategies that primary school teachers adopted during this period and determine how successful these strategies were in involving and engaging students. Altogether, 4028 teachers from 343 primary schools answered our online survey from all the regions of Hungary. The sample adequately represents the Hungarian primary school teacher population in terms of gender and age. We used cluster analysis and identified four clusters of pedagogical strategies; then, we used analysis of variance to explore how teachers' digital competence and their ability to involve students in online learning varied across different clusters. Our analysis grasps the complexity of the issue, as it shows that two rather distinct strategies were both successful in involving students, and thus, there is no single solution best suited to digital learning. Overall, digitally competent teachers loosened the originally strict structure of education and provided more feedback, which proved to be an important element in successfully involving students in digital learning during ERT. The framework validated in our research can be used by policymakers and school administrators in different national and educational contexts, enabling them to understand the complexity of online teaching and learning. Furthermore, our results can offer some practical pointers for school teachers on how to combine different pedagogical strategies.

The purpose of this study was to adapt the computational thinking scale developed by Tsai, Liang and Hsu (2021) into Turkish in order to determine the computational thinking skill levels of secondary school students according to such basic elements defined by Selby and Woollard (2013) as abstraction, decomposition, algorithmic thinking, evaluation and generalization and to do the related validity and reliability study. A total of 454 high school students (9th-12th grade) determined with the convenient sampling method constituted the sample of the study. The original scale was made up of 19 5-point Likert-type items. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was performed to examine the conformity of the data collected via the adapted scale to the five-factor structure of the original scale. As a result of CFA, it was seen that the factor structure of the original scale was preserved. The reliability of the scale was checked with the internal consistency coefficient for the whole scale and its factors. The Cronbach Alpha coefficients obtained were 0.84 and McDonald's omega coefficients obtained were 0.86. The scale's Turkish adaptation was found to be a valid and trustworthy measurement tool for establishing the computational thinking proficiency levels of students in high school.

The rise of the COVID-19 pandemic has led to the overhaul of the conduct of teaching and learning particularly in the assessment of learners during a time of crisis trapped in many structural and practical challenges. This study examines the assessment practices and strategies to protect its quality and integrity in the delivery of teaching and learning among higher education students at Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University, Zamboanga City, Philippines. This research employs a comprehensive and reliable survey questionnaire on the assessment practices and strategies for assessment, including its quality and integrity. A total of 300 students and teachers were purposefully selected for the study. Based on the findings, practical assessment and skill assessment were among the most widely employed strategies by the teachers. There was a need for skill development in distance learning which calls teachers to integrate it into skill assessment strategies. The study yields the current practices of the teachers in assessing the academic performances of the students, strategies to execute their assessment practices that comply with the health protocols, and strategies to safeguard the quality and integrity of these assessments despite the difficulties in the learning environment. This study is integral to extending the body of knowledge regarding the different assessment practices and strategies and how these influence the delivery of online education. Nevertheless, academic institutions should reconfigure their assessment practices in terms of which of these suits well their stakeholders.

The objectives of this research were to synthesize the competencies of the digital researcher, carry out an empirical investigation of the digital researcher landscape, and evaluate the results of a synthesis of digital researcher competency. To conduct the research, the researchers carried out a review of the literature related to researcher competency, digital competency, digital researcher competency and digital technology for researchers. Then, a focus group discussed the conclusion of the digital technology landscape used to enhance the digital researcher. The results showed that digital researchers' competency had six features: 1) Personalize and Security Competency, 2) Literature Review and Reference Management Competency, 3) Communication and Collaboration Management Competency, 4) Analyzing and Reporting Competency, 5) Proofreading and Plagiarism Checking Competency, and 6) Publication Competency.

Technology readiness is a condition where students are prepared to support the success of online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Good technology readiness will support learning and have an impact on student learning outcomes. This study aimed to determine the influence of fourth grade elementary school students' technology readiness on their online learning outcomes in the new normal era. The current research was conducted using a quantitative method through a survey on 93 elementary school students in Kretek District, Bantul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Samples were taken randomly using an incidental system from all fourth grade elementary school students with a population of 122 students. The technology readiness data were collected using a closed-ended questionnaire containing 20 statements, while data on learning outcomes were gathered from the students' final exam results. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that technology readiness had a positive influence on student learning outcomes. Hypothesis testing using a simple linear regression test revealed that at a significance level of 0.000 (< 0.05), the t-calculated (8.496) > t table (1.701). Thus, it can be concluded that technology readiness has a significant effect on fourth grade students' learning outcomes in the new normal era. It can be concluded that technology readiness has a significant effect on the learning outcomes of fourth grade students in the new normal era. The aspect of technology readiness supports students' ability to manage digital learning resources, digital platforms, and learning devices. The learning process using digital learning resources will run optimally and have an impact on the achievement of learning outcome.

Special Education teachers serve students who are struggling in mathematics and continue to fall further behind each year. Educators are faced with the challenge of selecting the most effective program for assessing and teaching mathematics that will promote mathematics achievement for students who are served in resource settings. The KeyMath-3 Essential Resources (KeyMath-3 ER) is a mathematics program aligned with National Council of Teachers of Mathematics standards, which incorporates research-based practices for teaching mathematics to students with disabilities. This study utilized the KeyMath-3 ER program as an intervention with five second-grade students with various disabilities receiving their mathematics instruction in a resource setting. The results demonstrated the potential usefulness of KeyMath-3 ER as an effective program for students in a resource setting. The one outlier was a student with autism who did not show significant progress demonstrating a need for further research to assess the effectiveness of using this program with like students.

COVID-19 has had serious consequences in all areas of social life, including education. In this period, distance education appeared as an inevitable solution. Even today, when the pandemic process is over and re-normalization has begun, online teaching environments have become such an indispensable part of education systems that it has been decided that a certain proportion of the courses will be conducted online in universities. For this reason, determining student experiences in online courses is important in planning the future of distance education. Since academic performance is the output of the teaching process, students' academic performance is one of the topics of interest in higher education research. There may be different factors affecting the academic performance of students in the distance education process, which imposes more responsibility on students and requires self-control. This study aimed to examine the relationship of academic performance in the distance education with home infrastructure, student interaction, computer skills, academic satisfaction. This research is based on a large-scale study, "The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the lives of higher education students", examining the pandemic's impact on higher education student perceptions in 2020. It has been observed that home infrastructure has a significant impact on the student's academic performance. The infrastructure increases the interaction of the student. When home infrastructure is taken as a control variable, students' computer skills are the highest predictor of their perception of academic performance, followed by their online interactions and, finally, perceived satisfaction. Today, pandemic conditions are still ongoing. In addition, even as the pandemic ends, online education has become an indispensable part of our education system. Therefore, the findings of the research would be beneficial for the ongoing planning process.

Even though the main purpose of Computer Education and Instructional Technology (CEIT) department is to educate and train computer teachers for K12 level schools in Turkey, the graduates from the department have diverse competencies in different fields like instructional designer, content creator, software developer, etc. However, neither the graduates nor the companies in educational technology or other fields have fully awareness of that competencies essential mostly in non-teaching fields. A small number of studies have worked with CEIT graduates, but more studies are needed to explore those competencies and current job requirements in the companies. In this way the graduates would create better career plans and the companies would hire correct employee. Moreover, the CEIT curriculum would be reconsidered with respect to the experiences or expectations of the graduates or the companies. This study was conducted to investigate the opportunities of CEIT graduates in non-teacher positions in any business sector in Turkey. For this purpose, four research questions were asked: 1) What are the job opportunities of CEIT graduates in non-teaching fields? 2) What are the competencies of CEIT graduates that enable them to work in non-teaching areas? 3) What competencies do CEIT graduates need to have more in order to work in non-teaching areas? 4) What are the changes that CEIT graduates in non-teaching fields suggest in the undergraduate program? To answer the questions a survey research design was used, and data were collected from 41 CEIT graduates who were working in non-teaching jobs, by means of a questionnaire. The questions were analyzed with descriptive statistics and content analysis. The results show that CEIT graduates do and can have professions in many different fields, both due to the courses in their own degree programs and the competencies that can be acquired after graduation. In addition, improvements in CEIT undergraduate curriculum have been discussed and suggested to support certain specializations in different fields.

Drawing on duoethnography, the teacher researchers in the present study interacted with the relevant literature, engaged in dialogs, and shared artifacts to examine their knowledge, beliefs, and practices regarding fairness and justice considerations in technology-enhanced language classroom assessment. Under the domain of knowledge, they conceptualized fairness and justice and identified their components. Within beliefs, the difference between high-stakes and low-stakes assessments, the significance of students' perceptions, and the role of computer literacy in relation to fairness and justice in technology-enhanced classroom assessment were debated. To operationalize their knowledge and beliefs, the researchers inspected their assessment practices during and following COVID-19. They agreed that fairness was distinct from justice in that the former pertained to test internal characteristics and its administration procedures while the latter referred to test external consequences at a broader social level. They believed that fairness and justice were equally important in high-stakes and low-stakes assessments, and students' perceptions were valuable sources of feedback regarding fair and just classroom assessments. Moreover, the teachers argued that computer literacy cannot yet be considered an aspect of language ability. Finally, it was revealed that although their practice regarding fairness and justice was affected by the pandemic, they learned valuable lessons (e.g., combining online and paper assessment modalities and giving oral exams) in this respect for the future. The findings imply that language teachers should theoretically adopt a clear conception of fairness and justice while being practically prepared for future developments (e.g., technological advances) and unexpected circumstances (e.g., a pandemic).

In today's world, the ability to think computationally is essential. The skillset expected of a computer scientist is no longer solely based on the old stereotype but also a crucial skill for adapting to the future. This perspective presents a new educational challenge for society. Everyone must have a positive attitude toward understanding and using these skills daily. One thousand two hundred seven documents about computational thinking (CT) may be found while searching the Scopus database from 1987 to 2023. Data from Scopus were analyzed using VOSviewer software. This study educates academics by delving into the fundamentals of what is known about the CT of visual and quantitative research skills. This approach allows for a more in-depth look at the literature and a better understanding of the research gap in CT. This bibliometrics analysis demonstrates that (1) research on CT is common to all sciences and will develop in the future; (2) the majority of articles on CT are published in journals in the fields of education, engineering, science and technology, computing and the social sciences; (3) the United States is the most dominant country in CT publications with a variety of collaborations; (4) keywords that often appear are CT, engineering, education, and mathematics, and (5) research on CT has developed significantly since 2013. Our investigation reveals the beginnings and progression of the academic field of research into CT. Furthermore, it offers a road map indicating how this study area will expand in the coming years.

Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) studies have surged over the past few years, however, there is a lack of studies that have comprehensively reviewed and synthesized data on teachers' TPACK self-efficacy. The present review aimed to provide data on research methods, study samples, subject domains, and evaluation approaches used in the TPACK studies to date. The review also aimed to analyze teachers' TPACK self-efficacy, self-efficacy beliefs, computer self-efficacy, and technology support concerning professional development. Five best bets (most searched databases) were selected on the Electronic Business Source Complete (EBSCO) host platform. An abstract level screening was conducted for 136 peer-reviewed articles, and 75 articles were selected for the detailed screening. The analyses were focused on year-wide appearance of TPACK studies, research methods, study samples, subject domains, and evaluation approaches used. The growth and development of TPACK self-efficacy was examined using the narrative approach. Results indicated that professional development interventions were effective in improving teachers' TPACK self-efficacy. Also, TPACK-based argumentation practices helped participants strengthen their perceptions toward the integration of technology in classrooms. The implications of the findings for teacher preparation programs and other professional development activities were presented.

Are students who prefer online education different from those who prefer on-ground education, and how? This is an important question because educational institutions need to better understand student segmentations. This research examined 251 survey responses from students enrolled in Computer Information Systems courses at three universities over five years (2016-2021) and reviewed student attitudes, perceived skills, and their sociological characteristics. Through two-step cluster analysis unsupervised machine learning, two distinct clusters of students emerged, namely Onliners and On-grounders. The top nine out of the eleven group characteristics for Onliners are: select more online courses, regard online instruction as effective, work better without supervision, rely less on classroom interactions in learning, value convenience, can prioritize, are better organized, better prepared, and older. By understanding these group characteristics, educational institutions can make better decisions in policy making, resources allocation, and student recruitment/retention.

The purpose of this study is to adapt the "Computer Programming Self-Efficacy Scale for Computer Literacy Education (CPSES)" developed by Tsai et al. (2019) into Turkish for middle school students and to develop a valid and reliable measurement tool. The participants of the study consisted of 348 eighth grade students. In order to test the factor structures of the adapted scale, the data obtained were analyzed with first and second order factor analysis. The results of the analysis showed that the adapted scale had high reliability, convergent validity and divergent validity. The results of the first- and second-order confirmatory factor analysis showed that both models had good fit values with the data. All 16 items and 5-factor structure (Logical Thinking, Cooperation, Algorithm, Control, Debug) in the original scale were retained in the Turkish scale. As a result, it was concluded that the Computer Programming Self-Efficacy Scale for Computer Literacy Education (CPSES) is a valid and reliable measurement tool in Turkish culture.

The paper examines the degree of digitalization of Academic Writing and Information Literacy (hereafter AW & IL) course in the countries of the post-Soviet era. Numerous research demonstrated that digital transformation has taken place toward the teaching of AW & IL in most of the developed countries and beyond, yet little is studied about the digitalization in countries of the former Soviet Union that have passed a long way to align their education with the globe. Keeping up with the four main categories of digitalization, the paper will look at its application as a part of curriculum development, assessment, students' competency, and university maintenance. The paper employs a phenomenological approach confirmed through the qualitative analysis of 18 in-depth interviews conducted with AW & IL instructors from nine countries. The study revealed that recently AW & IL course has moved through partial digitalization, providing that the university stakeholders do not exert any necessary support.

Governments, businesses, and educational institutions need to collaborate and make significant investments in order to address the growing digital skills crisis. In Europe, hundreds of digital skills initiatives have been launched with different forms of government and private industry support in the last five years alone. Consequently, digital skills initiatives have come to encompass a wide array of interventions. In this context, this paper proposes a typology of digital skills initiatives that was developed based on the analysis of over 300 initiatives listed in the European Commission's repository of best digital skills initiatives. The proposed typology consists of four categories: target group, digital skills, learning format, and sponsoring organization. In terms of target group, digital skills initiatives tend to target one or more of five distinct groups: the general public, educators, adults, seniors and youth. In terms of digital skills, digital skills initiatives tend to focus on general digital skills or specialized digital skills. In terms of learning format, digital skills initiatives tend to offer training and/or a learning resource. In terms of sponsoring organization, the initiatives tend to be sponsored by organizations that are either affiliated or unaffiliated with a technology vendor. The typology is followed by a presentation of mini cases, which highlight different archetypes of the proposed typology. The paper closes with a discussion of practical implications for policy makers, administrators, and scholars interested in digital skills initiatives and the future of work.

Various blended learning models have been developed, but none of them have focused on support systems to improve the digital literacy of preservice teachers. This study aims to produce a prototype of a blended learning support system that can improve the digital literacy of preservice teachers. This type of research is research and development using a 4D model. This research was conducted at Universitas Negeri Padang and started with a needs analysis of 168 students to develop a blended learning prototype. The prototype was tested on six experts, six lecturers, and six students in the limited test and 50 students at the dissemination stage. The data collection instrument used observation and questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis. The results show that the validity of the blended learning support system to improve the digital literacy of preservice teachers was in the very valid category. All indicators from the experts were higher than indicators from the lecturers. Although each support system was assessed differently by the experts and the lecturers, overall the digital literacy components in each support system were declared valid. The results of this study contribute to the development of digital literacy for preservice teachers by integrating digital literacy skills into a blended learning support system that includes lesson plans, content, and activities on the LMS as well as digital literacy-based assessments.

An intervention using the unplugged programming and storytelling (UPS) strategy was implemented in this study to cultivate students' programming learning motivation and concepts. The participants were 49 second graders at a primary school in southern Taiwan. The course was conducted for 12 lessons (40 min each lesson). A quasi-experimental design was employed in this study. During the course, students in the experimental group were taught using the UPS strategy. Data collection included the Programming Concept Test and Programming Learning Motivation Scale supplemented by classroom observation and interview data. The results revealed that the experimental group outperformed the comparison group in programming learning motivation and concepts after the course with the UPS strategy. This teaching experiment obtained large effect sizes. Interviews showed that students perceived positively, which helped them develop their programming concepts. The implication is that the UPS strategy may contribute to primary school programming courses.

Online education transforms many aspects of teaching and learning in higher education. International students studying abroad already face considerable stress and negative emotions, and the transition to online learning can further intensify their learning anxiety. This study systematically investigated the factors associated with international students' online learning anxiety by integrating demographic, adjustment, and online learning readiness-related factors. A sample of 380 Chinese students studying in South Korea was investigated. A three-step hierarchical multivariate regression revealed that doctoral students demonstrated significantly lower learning anxiety levels compared to freshmen. Adjustment-related factors explained significant additional variance in online learning anxiety, with length of stay, social support and language proficiency emerging as significant predictors. Online learning readiness-related factors were found to be the most powerful predictors in explaining learning anxiety, with self-directed learning, learner control, computer/internet self-efficacy and online communication self-efficacy being significant predictors. The findings were discussed, and future research implications were suggested.

Digital skills are beneficial for young people and society, but some individuals, particularly girls, are less likely to choose computing post-compulsory education. Coding is a crucial skill in the school computing curriculum. The authors collected survey data from 4983 secondary-school students (ages 11-16) as well as conducted exploratory factor analysis and created multivariable logistic regression models. Their findings revealed that high coding attitudes were associated with various factors, including student experience in computing lessons, teacher and parent support, perceptions of computer scientists, computing at home and gender. These findings have implications for classroom practice and curriculum design, highlighting the importance of addressing barriers and fostering positive coding attitudes among all students. The authors' findings highlight the need to reconsider the coding content within the computing curriculum in England, as certain groups of young people, including girls, will continue to be less well represented in this subject.

In this study, a predictive model is constructed to analyze learners' performance in programming tasks using data of programming behavioral events and behavioral sequences. First, this study identifies behavioral events from log data and applies lag sequence analysis to extract behavioral sequences that reflect learners' programming strategies. Then, learners' behavioral events and behavioral sequences are selected using linear regression. Finally, a predictive model is built using majority vote. The study uses data from 3151 programming tasks to compare the accuracy of predictive models with and without behavioral sequences. The results show that the accuracy of the predictive model with behavioral sequences is 75.75%, which is 2.06% higher than that of the model without behavioral sequences. This study finds that editing, debugging, and self-regulating behavior sequences can reflect the strategies learners employ during programming. These findings underscore that the model based on behavioral events and behavioral sequences in this study can successfully predict learners' programming performance and thereby has the potential to support programming instruction.

Higher education is becoming increasingly competitive and all educational institutions are concentrating on improving quality and changing traditional higher education teaching methods. New-type classroom instruction has embraced a unique advancement opportunity with the arrival of the fifth generation (5G) era. It is critical to develop a teaching assistance system that makes use of high-speed network methodology and new-type display methodology. For the innovation and reform of higher education, this article combines soft computing techniques, artificial intelligence (AI), and 5G networks. This paper outlines the exact processes and measures for incorporating "5G" technology into higher education. Finally, conduct a comparative experiment to see how good the system is at learning AI knowledge when compared to standard learning methods. The outcomes of the experiments are examined to show that employing this approach to gain AI knowledge is successful and improves students' enthusiasm in learning as well as their hands-on abilities.

The development of web-based technologies in recent decades has provided ready access to a wealth of on-line educational resources, and despite concerns that availability of on-line recorded lectures impacts on-campus attendance, we believe there needs to be more focus on the learning resources students engage with, along with why and how they use these resources. Our survey of first year science and mathematics students found that more than 80% of on-campus and off-campus students engaged with [greater than or equal to]75% of lectures by attending face-to-face and/or viewing on-line lectures. And when asked about their use of external resources, 80% of students reported using YouTube and/or Open Educational Resources, amongst other on-line resources, to provide increased understanding of content and to view worked problems. Knowing that a large percentage of students will seek out additional on-line resources, we conclude that ensuring all students have well developed on-line search skills and the ability to critically assess the quality of on-line resources are important contributions that teaching staff can make to student learning.
