This article is about the lead-up to the 2020 US General Election and appears in the last edition of this journal before the vote takes place in that momentous event on November 3. In the article, four specific and inter-related existential threats and dangers are identified that would arise from the re-election of Donald J. Trump: the destruction of democracy in the US; a continuation of the ongoing coronavirus catastrophe in the United States and Trump's callous attempts to promote US capitalism and his own capitalist interests by refuting and/or ignoring the dangers from this or future viruses; a worsening of world-threatening climate change destruction in the light of its denial by Trump; and the increased possibility of (nuclear) war. First, however, some brief comments are made about the Trump persona. The article uses the concept of public pedagogy to explore Trump's rhetoric, pronouncements and associated policies and practices that threaten and promote hatred and fear, increasingly enable fascism, exacerbate both the coronavirus crisis and climate change destruction, and up the likelihood of (nuclear) war.

In the context of the ongoing debate between Critical Race Theorists and (neo-) Marxists over the Critical Race Theory concept of 'White supremacy', this paper extends the analysis to Black Radicalism in an attempt to further develop the neo-Marxist critique of 'White supremacy' deployed as a general descriptor of racism in Western societies. Specifically, the case is made that the neo-Marxist concepts of institutional racism and racialisation are better placed to understand forms of racism such as those beyond the Black/White binary, namely racism that impacts on non-Black people of colour, non-colour-coded racism and hybridist racism. Finally, futures as articulated by Critical Race Theory, Black Radicalism and neo-Marxism are addressed.

Critical Race Theory (CRT) has a relatively long history in the United States, from where it originated, dating back to the 1980s. Its presence in UK academic literature, however, is more recent, having surfaced in the first decade of the twenty-first century. I focus in this paper on developments in CRT in the UK from January 2012 to January 2018, as part of an ongoing attempt to evaluate CRT from a (neo-) Marxist perspective. My argument is that while "BritCrit" analysis employs (a limited number of) CRT concepts, there is a clear tendency for UK-based Critical Race Theorists to deploy a range of other theoretical perspectives, including Marxism. Thus, a distinctively British CRT has failed to take off in the way its founders had hoped. I speculate that this may well be related to CRT's inability to theorise the multifarious nature of racism in the UK, specifically those forms of racism that are either non-colour-coded or hybridist.
