Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has been shown to be beneficial in various medical fields such as wound healing, oncology or dentistry. A prominent effect induced by CAP is the boost of microcirculation in human skin tissue. Being a complex cocktail of physical and chemically reactive components, the mechanisms by which CAP enhances microcirculation still remain unclear. Thus, this study aims to identify relevant CAP components involved in stimulation of dermal microcirculation. In a comparative approach, the application of the same CAP source was modified in such a way that three different treatment modalities could be realized, each with a characteristic composition of electrical current flow and concentration of reactive species. Microcirculation parameters oxygen saturation (StO2), tissue hemoglobin index, near-infrared perfusion index and tissue water index were recorded before and after each treatment on the lateral proximal left arm of 10 healthy volunteers by means of hyperspectral imaging. The maximum microcirculatory response to CAP was observed when all components were allowed to interact with skin tissue (standard treatment). In contrast, no upregulation was found as soon as electric currents and fields had been removed from the effective component spectrum. Application of the CAP source at reduced concentrations of reactive species compared to standard treatment led to significant but less pronounced enhancement of dermal microcirculation. The findings of this study indicate that a synergistic interplay of all CAP components promotes microcirculation in dermal tissue most effectively. Moreover, the findings support the hypothesis that electric currents and fields play a key role in enabling microcirculation boost whereas availability of reactive species in the gas phase is associated with the intensity of the tissue response to CAP treatment. Ambient Ionization Mass Spectrometry (AI-MS) techniques have revolutionized analytical chemistry by enabling rapid analysis of samples under atmospheric conditions with minimal to no preparation. In this study, the optimization of a cold atmospheric plasma for the analysis of food and pharmaceutical samples, liquid and solid, using a Heat-Assisted Dielectric Barrier Discharge Ionization (HA-DBDI) source is described. A significant enhancement in analyte signals was observed when a heating element was introduced into the design, potentially allowing for greater sensitivity. Furthermore, the synergy between the inlet temperature of the mass spectrometer and the heating element allows for precise control over the analytical process, leading to improved detection sensitivity and selectivity. Incorporating computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations into the study elucidated how heating modifications can influence gas transport properties, thereby facilitating enhanced analyte detection and increased signal intensity. These findings advance the understanding of HA-DBDI technology and provide valuable insights for optimizing AI-MS methodologies for a wide range of applications in food and pharmaceutical analysis. Objective Design Results Conclusion Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has shown an ability to promote wound healing by modulating biological processes without causing thermal damage. This scoping review aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of CAP application in the oral wound healing process.An electronic literature search was conducted using PubMed/Medline, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and grey literature (Google Scholar). The search included all articles published up to October 11, 2023. Only studies focusing on the different CAP types' effects on oral cavity wounds or cells were included in the review.This review analyzed 13 studies including seven cell culture studies, one animal study, and five human studies (three in vivo and two ex vivo). The findings from the reviewed articles suggest that CAP may have therapeutic potential. It can maintain cell viability and influence gene expression, accelerate wound healing, and modulate inflammation‐related cytokines. DBD plasma exhibited time‐sensitive effects on cellular behavior and microplasma irradiation positively impacted cell count, biochemical profiles, and cellular migration.The application of CAP has been shown to have a positive impact on the healing of oral wounds in cell culture, animal, and human studies. Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) devices generate reactive oxygen and nitrogen species, have antimicrobial and antiviral properties, but also affect the molecular and cellular mechanisms of eukaryotic cells. The aim of this study is to investigate CAP treatment in the upper respiratory tract (URT) to reduce the incidence of ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (especially superinfections with multi-resistant pathogens) or viral infections (e.g., COVID-19). For this purpose, the surface-microdischarge-based plasma intensive care (PIC) device was developed by terraplasma medical GmbH. This study analyzes the safety aspects using in vitro assays and molecular characterization of human oral keratinocytes (hOK), human bronchial–tracheal epithelial cells (hBTE), and human lung fibroblasts (hLF). A 5 min CAP treatment with the PIC device at the "throat" and "subglottis" positions in the URT model did not show any significant differences from the untreated control (ctrl.) and the corresponding pressurized air (PA) treatment in terms of cell morphology, viability, apoptosis, DNA damage, and migration. However, pro-inflammatory cytokines (MCP-1, IL-6, and TNFα) were induced in hBTE and hOK cells and profibrotic molecules (collagen-I, FKBP10, and αSMA) in hLF at the mRNA level. The use of CAP in the oropharynx may make an important contribution to the recovery of intensive care patients. The results indicate that a 5 min CAP treatment in the URT with the PIC device does not cause any cell damage. Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) is an emerging technology that can generate various reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) at room temperature and shows promising applications for skin wound healing. The effects of plasma‐treated medium (PTM) promoting cell proliferation have been verified, but the biological mechanisms involved are not well known. This study aims to assess the proliferation effect and mechanism induced by PTM on human keratinocyte cells (HaCaT) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) in vitro. The results showed that the concentrations of H2O2 and NO2− inside PTM increased in a time‐dependent manner as the atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) treatment time was prolonged. The biological outcomes were determined by cell counting kit, wound healing assay, flow cytometry, enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and western blot analysis. The cell viability and motility assays indicated that appropriate plasma conditions of short treatment time (15s‐, 30s‐ and 45s‐PTM) could promote cell proliferation, while long treatment time would inhibit cell proliferation (60s‐PTM). With an appropriate time of PTM treatment, the secretion of vascular endothelial growth factor‐α (VEGF‐α) and transforming growth factor alpha (TGF‐α) was promoted and the extracellular signal‐regulated kinase/serine‐threonine protein kinase pathways were activated, which induced HaCaT and HUVEC cell proliferation eventually. These behaviors of cells were mainly related to the enhancement of intracellular reactive oxygen species levels. The application of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) in cancer therapy has recently received extensive attention. However, researchers have mainly studied the effects of CAP on plasma-irradiated cancer cells and have not determined whether CAP affects surrounding or distant non-irradiated cancer cells. Here, the viability and intracellular reactive oxygen species levels of plasma-irradiated and non-irradiated cancer cells were monitored in vitro. Our results showed that CAP may induce plasma-irradiated cancer cells (A549 cells, A375 cells, J82 cells and HT29 cells) to secrete soluble factors into the cell culture medium, which can transmit plasma-induced anticancer effects from plasma-irradiated cancer cells to non-irradiated cancer cells. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) have been implicated as direct key reservoir of both antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic-resistant genes (ARGs) associated with human infection, as high concentrations of ARBs and ARGs have been detected in recycled hospital wastewater. Among the ARBs, the carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii has been ranked as priority 1 (critical) pathogen by the World Health Organization (WHO), due to its overwhelming burden on public health. Therefore, this study is aimed at investigating non-thermal plasma (NTP) technology as an alternative disinfection step to inactivate this bacterium and its ARGs. Culture-based method and PCR were employed in confirming the carbapenem resistance gene blaNDM-1 in A. baumannii (BAA 1605). Suspension of carbapenem-resistant A. baumannii (24 h culture) was prepared from the confirmed isolate and subjected to plasma treatment at varying time intervals (3 min, 6 min, 9 min, 12 min, and 15 min) in triplicates. The plasma-treated samples were evaluated for re-growth and the presence of the resistance gene. The treatment resulted in a 1.13 log reduction after 3 min and the highest log reduction of ≥ 8 after 15 min, and the results also showed that NTP was able to inactivate the blaNDM-1 gene. The log reduction and gel image results suggest that plasma disinfection has a great potential to be an efficient tertiary treatment step for WWTPs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research aim is to activate water using a plasma jet that works with argon gas and to study the effect of the plasma on the physicochemical properties of the water. The plasma consists of a power supply capable of supplying a high alternating voltage of up to 12 kV in the form of a sinusoidal wave with a frequency of 20 kHz. The temperature of the produced plasma (Te) was (1.028) eV, and its electron density (ne) was (4.392×1017) cm-3 at a flow rate of 1L/min. The physicochemical properties of the water are determined by determining the concentration of each of NO2, NO3, and H2O2, the pH of the water, and the water temperature during exposure to the plasma. The effect of storage time on the properties of the activated water is determined after 48 hours of exposure to plasma. The RONS species were measured using kits purchased from USA (Bartovation) Company manufactured for this purpose. The pH was measured with a pH meter, and the working gas temperature was remotely measured with an IR thermometer. The concentration of the three active species increases with exposure time, but the active species NO2 concentration decreases to zero at an exposure time of 120 minutes. The concentrations of the three components decrease with the decrease in the flow rate. The pH decreases with the exposure time until it reaches 2, and the temperature increases until it reaches 35oC. The concentration of NO3 increases with the increase of the water storage time. In the case of H2O2, the concentration increases slightly, then after 10 hours it begins to decrease exponentially, reaching a value close to zero after the passage of 48 hours. For NO2, its concentration begins to decrease exponentially from the start of storage and reaches a concentration close to zero after 48 hours of storage. The pH increases with the storage time, and the water reaches its natural state with a pH of 7 after 48 hours of storage. From this, it is concluded that the best storage time for PAW is ten minutes after the end of the activation process, and also that the activation time should be short, but not exceeding ten minutes. Langmuir probes cannot be used to diagnose cold atmospheric plasma jet, because their presence in the high electric field after-glow region modifies the plasma parameters that they are intended to measure. Here, we propose a system to sample the plasma plume from ambient conditions into a low-pressure region, where probe analysis can be accomplished. The effect of such a sampling process on the number density and velocity of the gas has been studied through simulations and using analytical equations. Simulation results regarding the effect of chamber and orifice dimensions on these parameters, have been presented. Based on this study an experimental chamber was fabricated and Langmuir probe analysis of the sampled plasma was done. Continuum flowing plasma theory was applied and the plasma density and electron temperature were estimated to be 1.8 × 1020m−3 and 4.7 eV respectively for the operating condition of 3 W plasma power at 12 kHz. The worldwide challenges related to food sustainability are presently more critical than ever before due to the severe consequences of climate change, outbreak of epidemics, and wars. Many consumers are shifting their dietary habits toward consuming more plant-based foods, such as plant milk analogs (PMA) for health, sustainability, and well-being reasons. The PMA market is anticipated to reach US$38 billion within 2024, making them the largest segment in plant-based foods. Nevertheless, using plant matrices to produce PMA has numerous limitations, including, among others, low stability and short shelf life. This review addresses the main obstacles facing quality and safety of PMA formula. Moreover, this literature overview discusses the emerging approaches, e.g., pulsed electric field (PEF), cold atmospheric plasma (CAP), ultrasound (US), ultra-high-pressure homogenization (UHPH), ultraviolet C (UVC) irradiation, ozone (O3), and hurdle technology used in PMA formulations to overcome their common challenges. These emerging technologies have a vast potential at the lab scale to improve physicochemical characteristics, increase stability and extend the shelf-life, decrease food additives, increase nutritional and organoleptic qualities of the end product. Although the PMA fabrication on a large scale using these technologies can be expected in the near future to formulate novel food products that can offer green alternatives to conventional dairy products, further development is still needed for wider commercial applications. The Journal of Food Science has released a Special Issue on sorghum, emphasizing its potential as a versatile and resilient grain that can contribute to global food security. The issue includes two papers that examine the health benefits of sorghum, discussing its effects on cancer, cardiovascular health, and diabetes. Both papers emphasize the need for further research to fully comprehend the health effects of sorghum and develop innovative sorghum food products. The issue also covers various other topics, such as reducing capsaicin oral burn, browning inhibitors for fresh-cut apples, and the safety assessment of chicken bile as a novel food. Additionally, the issue explores the use of in-package cold atmospheric plasma processing for fresh fish, reliable identification of morels, the kinetics of chemical and color changes in wheat during cooking, glycosylation modification of soy protein isolate, ozone treatment of harvested cantaloupes, and mitigating the food safety concerns of cultured meat production. In‐package cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) processing, which refers to the generation of CAP inside a sealed package, enables a local disinfecting reaction, allowing no post‐process contamination and extending the shelf‐life (SL) of perishable food products, such as fresh fish. In the present study, four in‐package CAP treatments, differing in frequency and processing time, were applied on fresh gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) fillets, prepacked in low‐permeability pouches. Fish SL was evaluated during isothermal storage at 2°C, whereas untreated packaged fillets were used as control samples. The SL assessment of the fish fillets was based on microbial enumeration of total aerobic mesophilic count (TMC), total aerobic psychrotrophic count (TPC), Pseudomonas spp., Enterobacteriaceae, and lactic acid bacteria (LAB), pH measurement, determination of color and texture parameters, lipid oxidation, total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB‐N) measurement, and sensory evaluation. All CAP treatments were effective against microbial inhibition in fish fillets, especially regarding TMC, TPC, and Pseudomonas spp., resulting in maximum reduction of 1.49, 1.24, and 1.43 log CFU/g, respectively, compared to the control samples after 16 days of storage. However, minor effect was observed against Enterobacteriaceae and no effect against LAB. CAP processing did not affect the color and texture parameters of fish fillets, and TVB‐N production was slightly reduced in CAP‐treated samples; however, lipid oxidation was accelerated, especially at the more intense processing conditions, by a maximum of 75.5%. The results of the study indicated that in‐package CAP processing could be effectively applied for inhibiting spoilage during refrigerated storage and extending SL of fresh fish fillets. Practical Application: In‐package cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) processing was tested on gilthead seabream fillets, a highly perishable product with high commercial potential if its shelf‐life can be extended through minimal processing. The food industry could benefit from in‐package CAP technology as it is a cost effective nonthermal processing method while preventing post‐processing contamination of the products. Although in‐package CAP processing has not been extensively tested on fish, this study examined the quality and shelf‐life of a highly perishable fish species, and the results could be further used as a reference for processing optimization of the CAP treatments. Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) is a promising alternative to antibiotics and chemical substances in dentistry that can reduce the risk of unwanted side effects and bacterial resistance. AmbiJet is a device that can ignite and deliver plasma directly to the site of action for maximum effectiveness. The aim of the study was to investigate its antimicrobial efficacy and the possible development of bacterial resistance. The antimicrobial effect of the plasma was tested under aerobic and anaerobic conditions on bacteria (five aerobic, three anaerobic (Gram +/−)) that are relevant in dentistry. The application times varied from 1 to 7 min. Possible bacterial resistance was evaluated by repeated plasma applications (10 times in 50 days). A possible increase in temperature was measured. Plasma effectively killed 106 seeded aerobic and anaerobic bacteria after an application time of 1 min per 10 mm2. Neither the development of resistance nor an increase in temperature above 40 °C was observed, so patient discomfort can be ruled out. The plasma treatment proved to be effective under anaerobic conditions, so the influence of ROS can be questioned. Our results show that AmbiJet efficiently eliminates pathogenic oral bacteria. Cold atmospheric plasma has selective anticancer effects, while limited penetration depth and lifetime of reactive species restrict its usage. Herein, we adopt saline and hydrogel as carriers of plasma‐induced reactive species, and link reactive species accumulation, attenuation, storage, and slow‐release to anticancer effects of plasma‐activated media. Results reveal that plasma‐activated hydrogel (PAH) has a sustained anticancer effect and prolongs the storage duration of reactive species, thus causing more intracellular oxidative species accumulation and inducing melanoma cell apoptosis with reactive species continuously released to cell medium. In contrast, plasma‐activated saline has an attenuated anticancer effect with decline in reactive species. Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) therapy has been proven to effectively inhibit the growth of subcutaneous tumors. However, there is no research to explain how plasma‐induced anticancer effects can be transmitted to cancer cells through normal cells. Here, we monitored the effects of plasma‐irradiated HaCaT cells on nonirradiated A375 and HaCaT cells in terms of cell viability and intracellular reactive oxygen species levels in vitro. The experimental results indicated that plasma irradiation may induce plasma‐irradiated HaCaT cells to release soluble factors into the cell culture medium, thereby selectively killing nonirradiated A375 cells. The plasma‐generated short‐lived species play a crucial role in the release of soluble factors. A major area of current research in the interdisciplinary fields of applied chemistry, biology, and technology is the development of sustainable and environmentally friendly methods for extracting natural products. The goal of “green” extraction of natural products is to minimize or eliminate altogether the need for energy and solvents derived from petroleum in the extraction process. These innovative extraction methods cover a variety of techniques, such as cold atmospheric plasma extraction, pressurized liquid extraction, microwave-assisted extraction, ultrasound-assisted extraction, and supercritical fluid extraction. This review delves into the six key principles of extraction and explores various eco-friendly extraction methods, highlighting their advantages in contrast to conventional extraction techniques. As an indirect application of cold atmospheric plasma, the use of plasma-activated solutions has recently attracted significant attention for intracavity tumor perfusion therapy. Here, an underwater plasma-bubble reactor with three discharge modes was applied to activate a cell culture medium, with the aim of inhibiting the growth of bladder cancer T24 cells in vitro. The results showed that although the reactive species in cell culture medium generated by the underwater bubble plasma varied between the dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) mode, spark mode, and hybrid mode, the plasma-activated cell culture medium (PAM) corresponding to all three discharge modes effectively decreased the viability of T24 cells. However, after co-culturing the PAM-pretreated T24 cells with normal T24 cells, it was observed that normal T24 cells were not affected by either the DBD or spark mode; however, the hybrid mode PAM-pretreated T24 cells further induced inactivation and apoptosis of normal T24 cells. Further studies suggested that the aqueous reactive species generated by the underwater bubble plasma in hybrid mode not only induced the apoptosis of T24 cells directly but also triggered PAM-pretreated T24 cell-derived exosome-mediated anticancer activity toward cancer cells. In this work, an effort has been made to show that a cold atmospheric pressure plasma (CAPP) can be applied to promote the growth and development of wheat seedlings. A dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma-based reactor has been developed having two-roller conveyor rollers running on sprockets to generate cold plasma. Wheat seeds (Triticum aestivum) are treated with cold plasma for shorter durations to examine their germination parameters. In the cold plasma, reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) are generated which alter the surface of the seeds. This results in enhanced germination, growth, and enduring vitality of the plants enhance seed germination. After plasma treatment, the germination rate was enhanced from 84% to 98%. Also, after treatment surfaces of wheat seeds became more hydrophilic, as confirmed by a decrease in the water contact angle which results in higher seed germination. It is inferred that plasma is a viable alternative to the conventional pre-sowing seed treatment for germination due to its uniform treatment without degradation and the use of pesticides. Background: Current treatment options for Malassezia folliculitis (MF) are limited. Recent research has demonstrated the inhibitory effect of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) on the growth of Malassezia pachydermatis in vitro, suggesting CAP as a potential therapeutic approach for managing MF. Objectives: The objective of our study is to assess the in vitro antifungal susceptibility of Malassezia yeasts to CAP. Additionally, we aim to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of CAP in treating patients with MF. Methods: We initially studied the antifungal effect of CAP on planktonic and biofilm forms of Malassezia yeasts, using well‐established techniques such as zone of inhibition, transmission electron microscopy, colony count assay and 2,3‐bis(2‐methoxy‐4‐nitro‐5‐sulfophenyl)‐2H‐tetrazolium‐5‐carboxanilide salt assay. Subsequently, a randomized (1:1 ratio), active comparator‐controlled, observer‐blind study was conducted comparing daily CAP therapy versus itraconazole 200 mg/day for 2 weeks in 50 patients with MF. Efficacy outcomes were measured by success rate, negative microscopy rate and changes in Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) scores. Safety was assessed by monitoring adverse events (AEs) and local tolerability. Results: In laboratory investigations, CAP time‐dependently inhibited the growth of Malassezia yeasts in both planktonic and biofilm forms. Forty‐nine patients completed the clinical study. At week 2, success was achieved by 40.0% of subjects in the CAP group versus 58.3% in the itraconazole group (p = 0.199). The negative direct microscopy rates of follicular samples were 56.0% in the CAP group versus 66.7% in the itraconazole group (p = 0.444). No significant differences were found in the proportion of subjects achieving DLQI scores of 0/1 (p = 0.456) or in the GAIS responder rates (p = 0.588) between the two groups. Three patients in the CAP group and one patient in the itraconazole group reported mild AEs. Conclusion: CAP demonstrated significant antifungal activity against Malassezia yeasts in vitro and exhibited comparable efficacy to itraconazole in treating MF patients. Plasma medicine has attracted tremendous interest in a variety of medical conditions, ranging from wound healing to antimicrobial applications, even in cancer treatment, through the interactions of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) and various biological tissues directly or indirectly. The underlying mechanisms of CAP treatment are still poorly understood although the oxidative effects of CAP with amino acids, peptides, and proteins have been explored experimentally. In this study, machine learning (ML) technology is introduced to efficiently unveil the interaction mechanisms of amino acids and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in seconds based on the data obtained from the reactive molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, which are performed to probe the interaction of five types of amino acids with various ROS on the timescale of hundreds of picoseconds but with the huge computational load of several days. The oxidative reactions typically start with H‐abstraction, and the details of the breaking and formation of chemical bonds are revealed; the modification types, such as nitrosylation, hydroxylation, and carbonylation, can be observed. The dose effects of ROS are also investigated by varying the number of ROS in the simulation box, indicating agreement with the experimental observation. To overcome the limits of timescales and the size of molecular systems in reactive MD simulations, a deep neural network (DNN) with five hidden layers is constructed according to the reaction data and employed to predict the type of oxidative modification and the probability of occurrence only in seconds as the dose of ROS varies. The well‐trained DNN can effectively and accurately predict the oxidative processes and productions, which greatly improves the computational efficiency by almost ten orders of magnitude compared with the reactive MD simulation. Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is a chronic and progressive form of hair loss characterized by vascular degeneration in the perifollicular microenvironment, leading to cell apoptosis and eventual loss of hair follicles (HFs). Traditional therapeutic formulations, such as Minoxidil (MXD) tincture, have limitations in reshaping the perifollicular microenvironment and exhibit limited effectiveness. Here, we report a multi-synergistic therapeutic platform for high-performance hair regeneration therapy. The platform combines microneedle (MN) patches loaded with MXD-encapsulated nanostructured lipid carriers (MXD-NLC-MNs) and cold atmospheric plasma (CAP). The MNs' mechanical strength enables efficient transdermal delivery of MXD to the targeted dermal papilla cells, promoting cell proliferation. Furthermore, in collaboration with MXD, the mechanical stimulation exerted by MN application synergistically upregulates the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor, leading to neoangiogenesis. Meanwhile, the transient microchannels in the skin created by MNs facilitate the transdermal delivery of CAP-generated nitric oxide (NO) to the sites of HF lesions, whereby the synergistic interaction between MXD and NO boosts perifollicular vasodilation. Consequently, the perifollicular microenvironment can be effectively reshaped to accelerate hair regeneration in AGA murine models. Our study explores the potential of a novel microwave plasma source for enhancing wound healing in BALB-C mouse models. Chronic wounds, particularly in diabetic individuals, present significant challenges due to impaired regenerative capacity. Cold Atmospheric Plasma (CAP) has emerged as a promising approach, offering diverse therapeutic benefits. However, its specific efficacy in the context of diabetic wounds remains underexplored. We developed and characterized a microwave plasma source optimized for wound treatment, inducing acute wounds and treating them with CAP in a controlled experimental setup. Plasma technology, relatively new in the fields of biomedicine, agriculture, and ecology, is the subject of intensive research as a prospective means of decontamination of various microorganisms (bacteria, viruses, and fungi). The objectives of the present study were to follow the effect of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) treatment on in vitro grown plum plants (Prunus domestica L. 'Kyustendilska sinya' cv.) and the possibility of eradicating or inactivating plum pox virus (PPV) causing Sharka disease by CAP. The source tree is naturally co-infected by PPV (both M and D strains). In the experiments, two different plasma sources were used. First, a surface-wave-sustained Argon plasma torch and second, an underwater diaphragm discharge. For the treatments, nodal segments (10 mm in length) from in vitro cultured plum plants with or without one leaf were prepared. Apical shoots from treated plants (PPV-positive and negative clones as well non-treated controls) were cultivated in vitro for four passages. Then they were rooted and acclimatized to ex vitro conditions, and their virus status was observed periodically for more than 3 years after treatment for the appearance of Sharka symptoms. All plants, acclimatized to ex vitro conditions, were tested for PPV by immune capture–reverse transcription–polymerase chain reaction (IC-RT-PCR). As a first step in understanding the plasma treatment of living plants, a plasma treatment variant causing no damage must be established; this has been done in our previous works. Treatment of plants by plasma with parameters that have been carefully selected leads to better development than the non-treated plants. In the treated in vitro plants, no significant differences were found in the number and length of shoots compared to the control plantlets. In ex vitro acclimated plants, greater stem length was reported, but no differences in leaf number were observed. No significant differences in growth were recorded between the control and plants that were treated twice or three times. At this stage, 3 years after ex vitro cultivation in a greenhouse, Sharka symptoms were not registered on treated in vitro negative PPV plants, and the virus was not detected by IC-RT-PCR. Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has been reported as a promising technique in dentistry. The biosafety and mechanisms on periodontal tissue are especially important in clinical practice. This study aims to evaluate the cytotoxicity, genotoxicity and mechanisms of human periodontal ligament fibroblasts (hPDLFs) induced by CAP. The antimicrobial effect on Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) was evaluated using the colony-forming unit methods (CFU). Human periodontal ligament fibroblasts were treated with CAP for variable times (1, 2, 4, 8, and 16 min). CCK-8 assays were performed to detect cell viability and flow cytometry was performed to measure the cell cycle and apoptosis. Cell migration ability was determined by scratch assays. The physicochemical properties of plasma activated medium were evaluated, including the pH values, H2O2 and NO levels. DCF-DA staining and analysis were performed to evaluate intracellular ROS levels inside cells using flow cytometry. Immunofluorescence of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) marker, phosphorylated γH2AX was used to establish the genotoxicity of plasma. The results showed that CAP has a significant inhibition effect of P. gingivalis after 6 min treatment. It has significantly dose-dependent effects that ranging from increasing cell proliferation to inducing apoptosis. A low doses (1, 2, 4, and 8 min) could enhance the cell proliferation. A high dose (16 min) resulted in the inhibition of cell proliferation (p < 0.01). The objective of this study was to explore the effects of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) treatment on the biological behavior of human gingival fibroblasts (HGFs) cultured on the surface of high-transparency zirconia. Two types of zirconia, 3Y-ZTP and 4Y-PSZ, were subjected to a CAP treatment for various treatment durations. Analyses of the physical and chemical properties of 3Y-ZTP and 4Y-PSZ were conducted using scanning electron microscopy, contact angle measurements, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, both before and after CAP treatment. The biological responses of HGFs on both surfaces were assessed using CCK-8 assay, confocal laser scanning microscopy, and real-time PCR. Initially, the oxygen and hydroxyl contents on the surface of 4Y-PSZ exceeded those on 3Y-ZTP. CAP treatment enhanced the surface hydrophilicity and the reactive oxygen species (ROS) content of 4Y-PSZ, while not altering the surface morphology. After CAP treatment, HGFs' adhesion on 4Y-PSZ was superior, with more pronounced effects compared to 3Y-ZTP. Notably, HGFs counts and the expression of adhesion-related genes on 4Y-PSZ peaked following the CAP exposures for 30 s and 60 s. Consequently, this study demonstrates that, following identical CAP treatments, 4Y-PSZ is more effective in promoting HGFs adhesion compared to traditional 3Y-ZTP zirconia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Plasma medicine is a field that utilizes reactive species generated from atmospheric low-temperature plasmas for applications such as sterilization, blood coagulation, and cancer therapy. Commercial plasma devices are available for wound healing, but research on the chemical modifications induced by these plasmas is scarce. This study explores the chemical modifications in hemoglobin when exposed to a helium plasma dielectric barrier discharge, with the aim of explaining the potential mechanisms through which it contributes to blood coagulation and enhances wound healing. Optical microscopy of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) treated whole capillary blood showed an increase in red blood cell (RBC) size and the formation of rouleaux structures. The treatment of whole blood leads to hemolysis of RBCs and the release of intracellular protein content. We then treated purified hemoglobin protein at physiological concentrations, which led to the formation of aggregates that could be observed using ion mobility mass spectrometry (IM–MS), size exclusion chromatography, and optical microscopy. The aggregates formed fibril-like structures as observed using atomic force microscopy. The formation of hemoglobin aggregates is hypothesized to be the result of new intermolecular interactions formed following the CAP-mediated protein oxidation. We studied the changes to hemoglobin structure after treatment with a CAP using high-resolution MS and found that the hemoglobin subunits are oxidized with the addition of at least 4 oxygen atoms each. The intact tetrameric hemoglobin structure remains unchanged; however, the monomeric and dimeric proteins adopt a more compact structure, as observed by IM–MS. We propose that CAP treatment of fresh blood leads to hemolysis, and that the extracellular protein, primarily hemoglobin, is oxidized leading to the formation of aggregates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Efficient and biologically safe mode of cold atmospheric plasma jet (CAPJ) is crucial for the development of CAPJ-based anticancer therapy. In the experiment and numerical simulations, by changing the pulse duration of a positive-pulsed (PP) voltage, we found the optimal CAPJ modes with a regular streamer propagation and a maximum discharge current at a temperature T < 42 ∘C. These CAPJs substantially suppressed the viability of cancer cells. To enhance a cytotoxic effect of CAPJ treatment, gold nanoparticles (NPs) were added to the cells before and after the CAPJ exposure. Combination of CAPJ, generated with the PP voltage, and gold NPs decreased the viability of NCI-H23 epithelial-like lung adenocarcinoma, A549 lung adenocarcinoma, BrCCh4e-134 breast adenocarcinoma and uMel1 uveal melanoma cells. Polyethylene glycol-modified NPs with attached fluorescent labels were used to visualize the uptake of NPs. We demonstrated that NPs efficiently entered the cells when were added to the cells just before CAPJ exposure or up to two hours afterwards. The efficiency of NPs penetration into cells positively correlated with the induced cytotoxic effect: it was maximal when NPs was added to cells right before or immediately after CAPJ exposure. Summarizing, the treatment with optimal CAPJ modes in combination with modified NPs, bearing the cancer-addressed molecules and therapeutics may be the next strategy of strengthening the CAPJ-based antitumor approaches. Specialized chemicals are used for intensifying food production, including boosting meat and crop yields. Among the applied formulations, antibiotics and pesticides pose a severe threat to the natural balance of the ecosystem, as they either contribute to the development of multidrug resistance among pathogens or exhibit ecotoxic and mutagenic actions of a persistent character. Recently, cold atmospheric pressure plasmas (CAPPs) have emerged as promising technologies for degradation of these organic pollutants. CAPP-based technologies show eco-friendliness and potency for the removal of organic pollutants of diverse chemical formulas and different modes of action. For this reason, various types of CAPP-based systems are presented in this review and assessed in terms of their constructions, types of discharges, operating parameters, and efficiencies in the degradation of antibiotics and persistent organic pollutants. Additionally, the key role of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) is highlighted. Moreover, optimization of the CAPP operating parameters seems crucial to effectively remove contaminants. Finally, the CAPP-related paths and technologies are further considered in terms of biological and environmental effects associated with the treatments, including changes in antibacterial properties and toxicity of the exposed solutions, as well as the potential of the CAPP-based strategies for limiting the spread of multidrug resistance. Bio-based solutions for solid timber gluing have always been a very sensitive topic in wood technology. In this work, we optimize the gluing conditions of a starch–tannin formulation, which allows high performance in dry conditions and resistance to water dipping for 3 h, allowing for the D2 classification to be reached according to EN 204. It was observed that the starch–tannin formulations enhanced their performance by increasing the heating temperature, achieving satisfactory results at 140 °C for 13 min. The proportion of polyphenols in the mixture enhances the water resistance but is only tolerated until 20–30%. In particular, the addition of 10% tannin–hexamine enhances the water-resistant properties of starch for both quebracho and chestnut extract. The application of the jet of cold atmospheric plasma allows for good results with more viscous formulations, increasing their penetration in wood. This new technology can be effectively used in the food industry because it has the potential to inactivate microorganisms such as spores and microbial toxins and increase the wettability and printability of polymers to pack fresh and dried food. Phenanthrene (PHE) is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon categorized as a high priority organic pollutant being toxic for the ecosystem and human health, and its sorption on natural organic or inorganic substances seems a well-promising method for its removal from water streams. The goals of the present work are (i) to assess the capacity of low-cost adsorbents fabricated by treating coffee wastes and diatomaceous earth to remove PHE from water; (ii) to elucidate the role of the pore structure on PHE sorption dynamics; and (iii) to assess the potential to regenerate adsorbents loaded with PHE, by using the novel technology of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP). Diatomaceous earth (DE) and DE pre-treated with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) or phosphoric acid (H3PO4) were chosen as inorganic adsorbents. Coffee waste (CW) and activated carbons (AC) produced from its pyrolysis at 800 °C (CWAC), either untreated (CWAC-800) or pre-treated with NaOH (CWAC-NaOH-800) and H3PO4 (CWAC-H3PO4-800), were chosen as organic adsorbents. The adsorbents were characterized with nitrogen adsorption–desorption isotherms, attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and mercury intrusion porosimetry. Based on the PHE sorption capacity and pore structure/surface characteristics, the CWAC-NaOH-800 was chosen as the most efficient adsorbent for further equilibrium and kinetic sorption studies. The multi-compartment model was used to describe the PHE sorption dynamics in CWAC-NaOH-800 by accounting for the pore/surface diffusion and instantaneous sorption. The CWAC-NaOH-800 exhibited remarkable values for (i) the specific surface area (SBET = 676.5 m2/g) and meso- and micro-pore volume determined by nitrogen sorption (VLN2 = 0.415 cm3/g); (ii) the macro- and meso-pore volume determined by mercury intrusion porosimetry (VMIP = 3.134 cm3/g); and (iii) the maximum PHE sorption capacity (qmax = 142 mg/g). The percentage of adsorbent recovery after its regeneration with CAP was found to be ~ 35%. From the simulation of sorption dynamics, it was found that at early times, the sorption kinetics is governed by the film diffusion towards the external surface of grains, but at late times, most of the adsorbed mass is transferred primarily to meso-/macro-pores via diffusion, and secondarily to micro-porosity via surface diffusion. Based on the adsorbent characteristics, effect of pH on sorption efficiency, and numerical analysis of sorption dynamics, it was concluded that probably the dominant adsorption mechanism is the π-π interactions between hydrophobic PHE aromatic rings and CWAC-NaOH-800 graphene layers. The high PHE removal efficiency of CWAC-NaOH-800, the successful interpretation of sorption dynamics with the multi-compartment model, and the potential to regenerate PHE-loaded adsorbents with the green and economic technology of CAP motivate a strategy for testing CWACs towards the adsorption of other PAHs, application of adsorbents to real wastewaters, and scaling-up to pilot units. In this study, we investigate the potential of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) as a non-contact excitation device, comparing its performance with an ultrasound transmitter. Utilizing a scanning Laser Doppler Vibrometer (LDV), we visualize the acoustic wavefront generated by a CAP probe and an ultrasound sensor within a designated 50 mm × 50 mm area in front of each probe. Our focus lies in assessing the applicability of a CAP probe for exciting a small polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) sample. By adjusting the dimensions of the sample to resonate at the excitation frequency of the probe, we can achieve high vibrational velocities, enabling further mechanical analysis. In contrast with traditional vibration excitation techniques such as electrodynamical shakers and hammer impact excitation, a plasma probe can offer distinct advantages without altering the structure's dynamics since it is contactless. Furthermore, in comparison with laser excitation, plasma excitation provides a higher power level. Additionally, while pressurized air systems are applicable for limited low frequencies, plasma probes can perform at higher frequencies. Atmospheric nonthermal plasma (ANTP) has rapidly evolved as an innovative tool in biomedicine with various applications, especially in treating skin diseases. In particular, the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitrogen species (RNS), which are generated by ANTP, plays an important role in the biological signaling pathways of human cells. Unfortunately, excessive amounts of these reactive species significantly result in cellular damage and cell death induction. To ensure the safe application of ANTP, preclinical in vitro studies must be conducted before proceeding to in vivo or clinical trials involving humans. Our study aimed to investigate adverse effects on genetic substances in murine fibroblast cells exposed to ANTP. Cell viability and proliferation were markedly reduced after exposing the cells with plasma. Both extracellular and intracellular reactive species, especially RNS, were significantly increased upon plasma exposure in the culture medium and the cells. Notably, significant DNA damage in the cells was observed in the cells exposed to plasma. However, plasma was not classified as a mutagen in the Ames test. This suggested that plasma led to the generation of both extracellular and intracellular reactive species, particularly nitrogen species, which affect cell proliferation and are also known to induce genetic damage in fibroblast cells. These results highlight the genotoxic and mutagenic effects of ANTP, emphasizing the need for the cautious selection of plasma intensity in specific applications to avoid adverse side effects resulting from reactive species production. Burn wound healing can be significantly delayed by infection leading to increased morbidity and hypertrophic scarring. An optimal antimicrobial agent would have the ability to kill bacteria without negatively affecting the host skin cells that are required for healing. Currently available products provide antimicrobial coverage, but may also cause reductions in cell proliferation and migration. Cold atmospheric plasma is a partially ionized gas that can be produced under atmospheric pressure at room temperature. In this study a novel handheld Aceso Plasma Generator was used to produce and test Aceso Cold Plasma (ACP) in vitro and in vivo. ACP showed a potent ability to eliminate bacterial load in vitro for a number of different species. Deep partial-thickness and full-thickness wounds that were treated with ACP after burning, after excision, after autografting, and at days 5, 7, and 9 did not show any negative effects on their wound healing trajectories. On par with in vitro analysis, bioburden was decreased in treated wounds vs. control. In addition, metrics of hypertrophic scar such as dyschromia, elasticity, trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL), and epidermal and dermal thickness were the same between the two treatment groups.It is likely that ACP can be used to mitigate the risk of bacterial infection during the phase of acute burn injury while patients await surgery for definitive closure. It may also be useful in treating wounds with delayed re-epithelialization that are at risk for infection and hypertrophic scarring. A handheld cold plasma device will be useful in treating all manner of wounds and surgical sites in order to decrease bacterial burden in an efficient and highly effective manner without compromising wound healing. • ACP showed a potent ability to eliminate bacterial load in vitro for a number of different species. • ACP was compatible with deep partial thickness burn wound healing. • ACP was compatible with full thickness burn wound healing after skin grafting. COVID‐19 is currently pandemic and the detection of SARS‐CoV‐2 variants in wastewater is causing widespread concern. Herein, cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) is proposed as a novel wastewater disinfection technology that effectively inactivates SARS‐CoV‐2 transcription‐ and replication‐competent virus‐like particles, coronavirus GX_P2V, pseudotyped SARS‐CoV‐2 variants, and porcine epidemic diarrhoea virus in a large volume of water within 180 s (inhibition rate > 99%). Further, CAP disinfection did not adversely affect the viability of various human cell lines. It is identified that CAP produced peroxynitrite (ONOO−), ozone (O3), superoxide anion radicals (O2−), and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as the major active substances for coronavirus disinfection. Investigation of the mechanism showed that active substances not only reacted with the coronavirus spike protein and affected its infectivity, but also destroyed the nucleocapsid protein and genome, thus affecting virus replication. Silver is an antimicrobial commonly used within wound care chiefly in advanced dressings or in a topical cream form, such as silver sulfadiazine (SSD). Although silver is effective at controlling the growth of many common wound bacteria, it can be cytotoxic and can build up in tissue, stalling the healing process. Here, we demonstrate the development of an on-demand release system for delivery of silver from a composite hydrogel comprising sodium polyacrylate particles dispersed in a cryo-crosslinked polyvinyl alcohol carrier gel. Application of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) jet to the silver loaded hydrogel resulted in controlled release of silver. This release is thought to occur due to the formation of nitrous acids in the hydrogel by the CAP, resulting in protonation of carboxylate groups in the hydrogel and subsequent gel de-swelling due to the reduction in interchain charge repulsion. The location of silver within the sodium polyacrylate particles was probed using scanning electron microscopy and EDX imaging. The released silver inhibited the growth of Enterococcus faecalis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus and significantly reduced the viable cell count of the P. aeruginosa biofilm. In this study, the synergetic action of nanopulsed plasma bubbles (PBs) and photocatalysts for the degradation/mineralization of trimethoprim (TMP) in water was investigated. The effects of ZnO or TiO2 loading, plasma gas, and initial TMP concentration were evaluated. The physicochemical characterization of plasma-treated water, the quantification of plasma species, and the use of appropriate plasma species scavengers shed light on the plasma-catalytic mechanism. ZnO proved to be a superior catalyst compared to TiO2 when combined with plasma bubbles, mainly due to the increased production of ⋅OH and oxygen species resulting from the decomposition of O3. The air–PBs + ZnO system resulted in higher TMP degradation (i.e., 95% after 5 min of treatment) compared to the air–PBs + TiO2 system (i.e., 87%) and the PBs-alone process (83%). The plasma gas strongly influenced the process, with O2 resulting in the best performance and Ar being insufficient to drive the process. The synergy between air–PBs and ZnO was more profound (SF = 1.7), while ZnO also promoted the already high O2–plasma bubbles' performance, resulting in a high TOC removal rate (i.e., 71%). The electrical energy per order in the PBs + ZnO system was very low, ranging from 0.23 to 0.46 kWh/m3, depending on the plasma gas and initial TMP concentration. Epidermal melanin synthesis determines an individual's skin color. In humans, melanin is formed by melanocytes within the epidermis. The process of melanin synthesis strongly depends on a range of cellular factors, including the fine-tuned interplay with reactive oxygen species (ROS). In this context, a role of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) on melanin synthesis was proposed due to its tunable ROS generation. Herein, the argon-driven plasma jet kINPen® MED was employed, and its impact on melanin synthesis was evaluated by comparison with known stimulants such as the phosphodiesterase inhibitor IBMX and UV radiation. Different available model systems were employed, and the melanin content of both cultured human melanocytes (in vitro) and full-thickness human skin biopsies (in situ) were analyzed. A histochemical method detected melanin in skin tissue. Cellular melanin was measured by NIR autofluorescence using flow cytometry, and a highly sensitive HPLC-MS method was applied, which enabled the differentiation of eu- and pheomelanin by their degradation products. The melanin content in full-thickness human skin biopsies increased after repeated CAP exposure, while there were only minor effects in cultured melanocytes compared to UV radiation and IBMX treatment. Based on these findings, CAP does not appear to be a useful option for treating skin pigmentation disorders. On the other hand, the risk of hyperpigmentation as an adverse effect of CAP application for wound healing or other dermatological diseases seems to be neglectable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explores the burgeoning role of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) in ophthalmology. The versatile nature of CAP has transformed various facets of eye care, offering novel possibilities across different clinical domains. From sterilizing surgical instruments without compromising their integrity to effectively managing challenging corneal diseases like microbial keratitis and fungal infections, CAP has shown promising results. Moreover, its potential role in promoting corneal wound healing, facilitating corneal transplants, and enhancing outcomes in cataract surgeries deserves attention. The low-tension plasma blade (ie, the Fugo blade™, Medisurg Ltd. Norristown, PA), a controlled and precise form of CAP, has emerged as a game-changer in delicate eye surgeries. Its unmatched precision, minimal tissue damage, and surgeon-friendly nature have revolutionized ophthalmic procedures, including ptosis correction, dry eye treatment, and conjunctival cyst ablation. Despite conflicting findings on the efficacy of this technology in certain aspects, the extensive body of research on CAP underscores its potential for wider ophthalmic integration. Further investigation, including human trials, is crucial for understanding the in vivo safety profile of CAP for ophthalmic applications and optimizing its use, potentially revolutionizing ocular disease management and improving patient outcomes. Cold‐chain transport is a crucial cross‐regional transmission pathway for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 and other microorganisms. In this study, the mode‐combination method is adopted for sterilization in a 1.138 m3 freezer by mixing effluent gases of NOx and O3 mode air discharges. The mixed gas can effectively inactivate Staphylococcus aureus in 10 mm ice within 3 h, which significantly surpasses O3 gas. Moreover, the inactivation effect of the mixed gas can penetrate deep into ice, contrasting with the surface effect of O3 gas. This disparity is linked to the difference in penetration depth of strong oxidizing long‐lived reactive species. Decontaminating food packaging surfaces is a crucial step in the food processing industry to ensure the quality and safety of the product. Decontamination is intended as a procedure aimed to reduce the microbial load present on contaminated packaging to a safe level. Several techniques are traditionally employed, but the industry is seeking innovative methods that could offer economic and environmental benefits. Cold plasma is emerging as a promising solution among the range of possibilities. The present review aims to assess the effectiveness of plasma-assisted systems for decontaminating packaging materials. A systematic collection of inherent records was carried out, and the study outcomes were extracted using the protocol for meta-analysis. The synthesis of the results demonstrates the efficacy of this sanitation technique, since the average logarithmic reduction of the pathogen charge on the packaging was above 4. This outcome is promising since it aligns with standard requirements for traditionally employed antiseptics. As biofilms mature, biomass and extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) content increases, enhancing pathogenicity. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial efficacy of cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) against oral microcosm biofilms and the influence of biofilm maturity on treatment. Oral microcosm biofilms were cultured on hydroxyapatite disks for 2 and 6 days. Based on the treatment and biofilm maturity, these were subsequently allocated into six groups (N = 19 each): Groups 1 and 2 were incubated with distilled water for 1 min; Groups 3 and 4 were treated with CAP for 2 min, and Groups 5 and 6 were treated with 0.12% chlorhexidine gluconate for 1 min. Groups 1, 3, and 5 represent 2-day biofilms, and Groups 2, 4, and 6 represent 6-day biofilms. Treatments were repeated daily for 5 days. Antibacterial efficacy was analyzed by measuring oral biofilms' red fluorescence intensity (RatioR/G) and quantifying EPS content and bacterial viability. The RatioR/G was 1.089-fold and 1.104-fold higher in Groups 4 and 6 than in Groups 3 and 5 following antibacterial treatment, respectively (p < 0.001). EPS content increased by 1.71-fold in Group 6 than in Group 5 (p < 0.001). Bacterial survival rate was the lowest in Group 3 (p = 0.005). These findings underscore the relevance of CAP treatment in maintaining antibacterial efficacy regardless of the biofilm development stage, highlighting its potential utility in oral care. Cold atmospheric plasmas (CAPs) have emerged as multifaceted tools that can disinfect, heal, and unravel the mysteries of cellular responses. CAP has shown therapeutic potential in dermatology and surgery, addressing bacterial infections, impaired wound healing, and chronic wounds. Research in this field falls into two categories: direct plasma treatment and indirect plasma treatment. This comprehensive review explores decade-long research conducted on the applications of Cold Atmospheric Plasma (CAP) and Plasma Activated Liquids (PAL), including Plasma Activated Water (PAW), in the fields of Medicine and Dentistry. CAPs, operating at atmospheric pressure, offer unique advantages over conventional medical devices, generating Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) and Reactive Nitrogen Species (RNS) that interact with substances, enabling diverse applications. Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) is a source of cell‐damaging oxidant molecules that may be used as low‐cost cancer treatment with minimal side effects. Liquids treated with cold plasma and enriched with oxidants are a modality for non‐invasive treatment of internal tumors with cold plasma via injection. However, liquids are easily diluted with body fluids which impedes high and localized delivery of oxidants to the target. As an alternative, plasma‐treated hydrogels (PTH) emerge as vehicles for the precise delivery of oxidants. This study reports an optimal protocol for the preparation of injectable alginate PTH that ensures the preservation of plasma‐generated oxidants. The generation, storage, and release of oxidants from the PTH are assessed. The efficacy of the alginate PTH in cancer treatment is demonstrated in the context of cancer cell cytotoxicity and immunogenicity–release of danger signals and phagocytosis by immature dendritic cells, up to now unexplored for PTH. These are shown in osteosarcoma, a hard‐to‐treat cancer. The study aims to consolidate PTH as a novel cold plasma treatment modality for non‐invasive or postoperative tumor treatment. Cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) has shown promising potential in promoting wound healing. This case report presents the successful application of CAP in a 42-year-old female patient with extensive wound healing disorders and superinfections following the excision of an abscess in the left thoracic region. After several failed split skin graft attempts, the implementation of CAP led to significant improvements in wound healing.
