The influence of interdisciplinary research has become a trending topic in library and information science. However, research examining the influence of interdisciplinarity on scholars is still limited. This current study examines the interdisciplinarity from the author co-citation network approach. We focus on the field of social networking sites (SNS) research, namely studies about online platforms that people use for networking (e.g., Facebook), and examine whether interdisciplinarity would promote academic impact. About 2,489 articles in the field of SNS published from 2014 to 2016 were retrieved, with 611 first authors cited by those articles identified. The interdisciplinarity of the scholar was assessed in the author co-citation networks using two indexes: betweenness centrality and constraint. We identified four primary disciplines of SNS research in 2014 to 2016. Interdisciplinarity indexes were used to predict the scholarly impact in this field in the next 3-year interval (2017-2019), measured by citation counts. We found that citation number was predicted by betweenness centrality but not by constraint. Theoretical and practical implications of interdisciplinarity in research activities are discussed. This study employed bibliometric analysis to analyze the research on critical race theory (CRT) in education. We employed four approaches: citation analysis, document co-citation analysis, social network analysis, and keyword co-occurrence to examine the scientific structure of CRT research in education based on 1,464 documents and 55,493 cited references. Using VOSviewer, we identified four distinct clusters of CRTresearch that characterize the intellectual structure of CRTresearch in education. We examined how specific works influence the field using social network analysis (SNA). The SNA revealed various amounts of overall centrality (i.e., 15.42% degree centrality, 25.24% closeness centrality, and approximately 0% betweenness centrality). These results indicate that the documents' direct influence on the co-citation network is stronger than the indirect and informal influence. Finally, the keyword co-occurrence analysis results indicate four distinct clusters of CRT research foci. As physical mobility finds itself impeded by the COVID-19 crisis, the world witnesses the potential of technology for connecting students who are physically distanced inside and cross-borders. In such scenarios, telecollaboration and virtual exchange have gained increased attention as powerful pedagogical strategies to allow for the continuity of intercultural exchanges and understanding the trends of this growing field can be of high significance to practitioners when planning future related initiatives. Although telecollaboration and virtual exchange are not new phenomena, to the best of our knowledge, a thorough bibliometric study of the area, considering the characteristics of its publications and its scientific community, has not yet been developed. This study carried out a bibliometric analysis of the telecollaboration and virtual exchange research field using a set of 254 articles from the Web of Science and Scopus databases with the objective of characterising the area as well as identifying research tendencies. In particular, this study uses four analytical scientometric tools: co-citation, co-authorship, keywords co-occurrence analysis and identification of research trends. This study identified emerging and declining themes in the field of telecollaboration and virtual exchange, confirming that the practice is increasingly adopting diverse formats and cutting across different knowledge fields. In addition, results showed that international collaboration so far involves few countries and there is much space to widen co-authorship networks to enhance intercultural exchanges. In Taiwan, issues in technology education (TE), such as indeterminate core mission and unclear role, could be addressed through an objective knowledge map of research to discern directions of development and prospects. This study explores sub-fields, genres, characteristics, and trends in TE research in Chinese and English over 24 years through bibliometric co-citation analysis using two databases: Web of Science and Airiti Library. As per the findings: (1) TE research has been progressing slowly in Taiwan, while it is developing rapidly elsewhere; Disciplines integrated with TE include education and educational research, engineering, computer science, social sciences, and medicine; (2) Research topics have evolved from industrial arts, technical and vocational education, technological literacy education, and curriculum development, to pedagogical skills of teachers of technology; Other countries focus on "professional development of technology teachers," while Taiwan emphasizes "curriculum and teaching materials;" (3) Clusters from different periods are complementary, and research topics and fronts reflect continuity. Automation in Construction is one of the leading international journals in construction and building dating back to 1992. This study aims to quantify and visualize the evolution of Automation in Construction publications using bibliometric methods. Our work has two parts: 1) publication and citation statistics in terms of annual distributions, citing sources, prolific countries/regions and institutes, and highly cited papers, 2) network and science mapping analyses in terms of co-authorship network, co-citation network and thematic evolution. Two bibliometric software, VOSviewer and SciMAT, are used to help us carry out the analyses. The results suggest that Automation in Construction has obtained increasing influence and reputation from scientific community over the past decades. The relation between information science and library science has been debated for decades, and even attempts at utilizing methods generally acknowledged as robust for the purpose of mapping research fields have yielded results with large variations. Therefore, a set of citation analyses was performed, comparing the results of analyses on information science and library science separately but also as a joint library and information science (LIS) field. Although there are large differences, not the least in the author-level analyses, the patterns in the citation data support the concept of a joint LIS field with information science and library science being the two main subfields; many of the variations in the analyses are caused by the interdisciplinary nature of LIS, reflected in, for example, variations in citation practices in the different subfields. Many studies have proved that author bibliographic coupling analysis (ABCA) and author co-citation analysis (ACA) can provide important information for the detection of intellectual structure. However, most of these studies are focused on the first author. This implies a lack of consideration of all authors in the ABCA and ACA studies. This paper studies the all-author bibliographic coupling analysis (AABCA) and all-author co-citation analysis (AACA) to test whether and in what aspects these two all-author network methods produce different results when detecting the intellectual structure of a discipline. We find that the intellectual structures identified by AABCA and AACA are generally similar, but when it comes to detailed structures, the results are different. AABCA detects a richer variety of research topics that seem to better reflect current status and trends in the discipline, and more clearly identifies the active authors corresponding to a research topic. In contrast, AACA is more sensitive to traditional and stable research topics than to emerging niche research topics. In addition, it is more comprehensive in the discovery of authors' research interests, and it can identify multiple research interests of one author. Therefore, AABCA and AACA play different roles in the study of the intellectual structure of a discipline, indicating that the combination of the two approaches helps to obtain a more comprehensive and specific intellectual structure. This systematic review used "science mapping" as a means of understanding the evolution of research in educational administration (EA). The review sought to document the size, growth trajectory, and geographic distribution of EA research, identify high impact scholars and documents, and illuminate the "intellectual structure" of the field. Although science mapping has been applied widely in science, medicine, and social sciences, it is still new in the field of education. The authors identified 22,361 peer-reviewed articles published in 22 Scopus-indexed EA journals between 1960 and 2018. The authors used VOSviewer, Excel, and Tableau software to analyze the data set. The review found that the EA knowledge base has grown dramatically since 1960 with an accelerating rate growth and increasing gender and geographic diversity during the past two decades. Using co-citation analysis, the review identified canonical documents, defined as highly influential documents whose impact has been sustained for a period of several decades. The review also identified four key Schools of Thought that have emerged over time focusing on Leadership for Learning, Leadership and Cultural Change, School Effectiveness and School Improvement, and Leading Teachers. More broadly, our findings highlighted a paradigm shift from "school administration" to "school leadership" over the course of the six decades. Another significant finding identified "leadership for student learning and development" as the "cognitive anchor" of the intellectual structure of the EA knowledge base. This article aims to examine the intellectual landscape of the domain of culture and ethics in knowledge organization (KO). A domain analysis was conducted on a corpus of 206 relevant papers using bibliometric methods such as author co-citation analysis. The findings revealed a core group of influential authors consisting of Olson, Beghtol, and other influential KO researchers. The most prominent research themes that constitute this scientific community have also been investigated by reviewing some fundamental concepts and influential works in the domain. The excessive amount of digital information has made it crucial to extract the relevant information. This hinders researchers in finding documents pertaining to their research. There exist various state-of-the-art techniques, such as co-citation, bibliographic coupling, and their recent extensions like citation proximity analysis and citation order analysis, that recommend the relevant documents against the posed query. Most of these approaches are statistical in nature and thus can further be extended by incorporating some semantics to enhance the results. In this paper, we present an extension of a co-citation-based technique to identify the most relevant documents to co-cited document(s). The proposed system explores in-text citation frequencies and in-text citation patterns of co-cited documents within the different logical sections of cited-by papers. Furthermore, we have evaluated the proposed approach with the co-citation approach and citation proximity analysis (CPA) approach on a dataset acquired from CiteSeer. The outcomes revealed that most of the time the proposed approach outperformed other state-of-the-art techniques. The average correlation of the proposed approach is increased by 68% as compared to the co-citation-based approach. The Journal of Travel & Tourism Marketing (JTTM) is a leading international journal in “Marketing” and “Tourism, Leisure and Hospitality Management.” JTTM published its first issue in 1992. In 2017, the journal has celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary. For that reason, this study analyzes all the publications in the journal since its creation by using a bibliometric approach. The objective is to provide a complete overview of the main factors that affect the journal. This analysis includes key issues such as the distribution of annual publications and citations, the most cited papers, the h-index, citations per paper, the keywords that are mostly used, the influence on the publishing industry and authors, universities, and the countries that have the most publications. The paper uses the Scopus database to analyze the bibliometric data. Additionally, the paper also uses the visualization of similarities (VOS) viewer software to map graphically the bibliographic material. The graphical analysis uses bibliographic coupling, co-citation, citation, and co-occurrence of keywords. These results indicate that JTTM is one of the leading journals in the areas where the journal is indexed, with publications from a wide range of authors, institutions, and countries around the world. The past literatures have studied both ‘urban resilience (UR)’ and ‘urban sustainability (US)’ in terms of the dual character - vulnerability and pertinacity - of cities. However, there is a large overlap between the meaning of resilience and sustainability, which threatens to weaken both concepts. In this study, we discuss the difference between urban resilience (UR) and urban sustainability (US) from three aspects of research trends, research scale and research clusters. CiteSpace 4.0.R5 is used for co-citation analysis, visualizing co-citation networks and research clusters. UR and US studies contrast in not only their different theoretical bases, but also even more in their empirical work. A conceptual framework is proposed to define the difference between UR and US, and four kinds of urban development are examined based on the framework. We indicate that rational urban development can be achieved only when it is both resilient and sustainable, and conclude that urban planners, policymakers and researchers should pay equal attention to both UR and US before decision-making. The aim of the present research is to investigate the intellectual structure of creative economy research (CER) with a bibliometric analysis based on co-citation. Firstly, we try to reconstruct the evolution of academic research on creative economy with particular attention to the themes of regional and local economic development. Secondly, we investigate the community of contributions/actors that contributed to its generation throughout social network analysis. We analyse publications collected from ISI Web of Science, which includes all academic works starting from the seminal contribution of Department of Culture Media and Sport in 1998. Through the analysis of 941 publications produced over 16 years, we investigate the evolution of CER. Then we apply a relational analysis exploring co-citations of ‘disseminators’ and founders’ work’ of CER. Results underline that creative economy may be considered as a successful multidisciplinary paradigm born and developed in English-speaking countries, developed even on a global level, and still in a developmental phase. The internal structure of research appears fragmented in many sub-communities concentrated around some key concepts. Research paper recommendation has been a hot research area for the last few decades. Thus far, numerous different paper recommendation approaches have been proposed. Some of these include methods based on metadata, content similarity, collaborative filtering, and citation analysis, among others. Citation analysis methods include bibliographic coupling and co-citation analysis. Much research has been done in the area of co-citation analysis. Researchers have also performed experiments using the proximity of in-text citations in co-citation analysis and have found that it improves the accuracy of paper recommendation. In co-citation analysis, the similarity is discovered based on the frequency of co-cited papers in different research papers and those citing papers may belong to different areas. However, when proximity is used to calculate co-citation, the accuracy of recommendations improves significantly. Bibliographic coupling finds bibliographic coupling strength based on the common references between two papers. In bibliographic coupling, a large number of common references of two papers means that they belong to the same area, unlike co-citation analysis, in which there is a possibility that the citing papers may belong to different areas. Based on the observation that with the use of proximity analysis the accuracy in cases of co-citation analysis has improved, this paper investigates if the accuracy of paper recommendation can be further improved by using proximity analysis in bibliographic coupling. This paper proposes an approach that extends the traditional bibliographic coupling by exploiting the proximity of in-text citations of bibliographically coupled articles. The proposed approach takes into account the proximity of in-text citations by clustering the in-text citations using a density-based algorithm called DBSCAN. Experiments on a data set of research papers are presented to show that there is a substantial increase in accuracy of the recommendations produced by DBSCAN based on proximity analysis of in-text citations compared to traditional bibliographic coupling and content-based approaches. Introduction. Opinion mining has been receiving increasing attention from a broad range of scientific communities since early 2000s. The present study aims to systematically investigate the intellectual structure of opinion mining research. Method. Using topic search, citation expansion, and patent search, we collected 5,596 bibliographic records of opinion mining research. Then, intellectual landscapes, emerging trends, and recent developments were identified. We also captured domain-level citation trends, subject category assignment, keyword co-occurrence, document co-citation network, and landmark articles. Analysis. Our study was guided by scientometric approaches implemented in CiteSpace, a visual analytic system based on networks of co-cited documents. We also employed a dual-map overlay technique to investigate epistemological characteristics of the domain. Results. We found that the investigation of algorithmic and linguistic aspects of opinion mining has been of the community's greatest interest to understand, quantify, and apply the sentiment orientation of texts. Recent thematic trends reveal that practical applications of opinion mining such as the prediction of market value and investigation of social aspects of product feedback have received increasing attention from the community. Conclusion. Opinion mining is fast-growing and still developing, exploring the refinements of related techniques and applications in a variety of domains. We plan to apply the proposed analytics to more diverse domains and comprehensive publication materials to gain more generalized understanding of the true structure of a science. Through the bibliometric and co-citation analysis, this paper offers a review of science achievements in the area of e-learning continuance, with focus on identification of the field relevance, authors and most cited and co-cited papers, as well as the identification of roots this research area is based on. Based on co-citation network, which chronologically starts with Ajzen’s theory of 1975, another contribution can be drawn from this paper. The aim of the research is mapping the intellectual structure of knowledge management subject area to explore more its past and present. This Scientometric research has been done by author co-citation analysis of KM during time span of 1990-2014. We also used new social network indicators to understand the field better. The findings showed that different specialties can be recognized in the KM field. Half of the specialties are interrelated which shows the interdisciplinary nature of the KM fields. The results also showed that the impact of works written by Davenport, Polanyi and Brown with 928, 650 and 513 citation is more than other core authors of the field, and the stability of Drucker, Schon, Nelson, and Polanyi Theories with 36, 29, 26 and 25 citation half-life is more than other theories. The aim of this article is to develop a method combining calculation, visualization and intuitive analysis, which will help social scientists to study the history of a theory in a particular discipline. Considering that the typical type of knowledge-domain map is too complicated and cumbersome for social scientists who possess little knowledge about scientometrics, a new and simplified 3D knowledge-mapping method is designed and illustrated using examples from the entrepreneurship field. The major difference between the orthodox knowledge mapping method and the method we introduce is that co-citation network is not marked, but only co-citation analysis results. Using an alternative method, our map shows the three prominent researchers in the entrepreneurship field as well as three stages: the first from approximately 1920 to 1960, the second from 1960 to 2000, and the third beginning in 2000. Research on strategic alliances has a long tradition in management studies. Strategic alliances have been investigated using multiple theoretical lenses from RBV to agency and transaction cost, and diverse contexts, from the semiconductor to airline industries. In this study we scrutinize the extant strategic alliance research in thirty-one top-ranked business/management journals, over a twenty-year period, from 1993 to 2012. In a sample of 866 articles we conducted citation and co-citation analyses employing social network techniques and factor analysis to identify research themes and make sense of the stock of accumulated knowledge and theoretical trends. We were able to identify some shifts in research over time, namely from a focus on performance and theoretical emphasis on transaction cost theory and governance concerns, moving to a learning and knowledge transfer approach, social networks and collaboration. Time and space are fundamental to science dynamics, as science concerns not only what but also where and when. We examine the application of a time-geographical approach in a study of articles citing the works of Torsten Hägerstrand. Citation links between these articles were identified and the links were assigned weights based on shared references and cocitations. The main result is that adding a space–time dimension to traditional bibliometric mapping yields new insight into the dynamics of a research field. In today's world, people depend more on the WWW information, including professionals who have to analyze the data according their domain to maintain and improve their business. A data analysis would require information that is comprehensive and relevant to their domain. Focused crawler as a topical based Web indexer agent is used to meet this application's information need. In order to increase the precision, focused crawler face the problem of low recall. The study on WWW hyperlink structure characteristics indicates that many Web documents are not strong connected but through co-citation & coreference. Conventional focused crawler that uses forward crawling strategy could not visit the documents in these characteristics. This study proposes a more comprehensive traversal framework. As a proof, CTFC (a focused crawler with the new traversal framework) ran on DMOZ data that is representative to WWW characteristics. Objective To investigate the output of evidence-based medicine (EBM) researchers in China and elsewhere by examining the EBM domains they work within and the networks that exist among them; using visualization methods to analyze these relationships. This maps the current situation and helps with the identification of areas for future growth. Methods We used co-citation matrixes with Pathfinder networks and hierarchical clustering algorithms, and constructed a co-author matrix which were analyzed with a whole network approach. The analyzed matrixes were visualized with the UCINET program. Results Much of the development of EBM has been centered around three authors, David Sackett, Gordon Guyatt and L Manchikanti, within three different clusters. The main authors of EBM articles in China were divided into nine academic domains. The relations among core authors of articles indexed by the Science Citation Index (SCI) was loose. There was a stronger co-authorship network among core authors in the Chinese literature, with three groups and 21 cliques. Nine distinct academic communities appeared to have formed around Li Youping, Liu Ming and Zhang Mingming. Conclusion The EBM literature contains several key clusters, with universities in high-income countries being the source of the majority of articles. Outside China, McMaster University in Canada, the original home of EBM, is the dominant producer of EBM publications. In China, Sichuan University is the main source of EBM publications. The EBM cooperation network in China is comprised of three major groups, the largest and most productive in this sample is led by Li Youping with Liu Ming, Zhang Mingming, Li Jing, Wang Li, Wu Taixiang, and Liu Guanjian as central members. Abstract: This research aims to propose a hybrid process concerning the economic and industrial prospects along with critical technology streams toward a more effective selection on new technology. The integration of fuzzy Delphi method, the Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) technique, and the analytic network process (ANP) is employed to construct a technology selection model regarding the economic and industrial prospects. On the other hand, the patent co-citation approach (PCA) is applied to objectively draw key technology fields as technology alternatives for the technology selection model from patent data. The emerging organic light emitting diode (OLED) display technology is used as a case in order to verify the applicability of proposed a novel hybrid MCDM method for the best technology selection. This paper studies how varied damping factors in the PageRank algorithm influence the ranking of authors and proposes weighted PageRank algorithms. We selected the 108 most highly cited authors in the information retrieval (IR) area from the 1970s to 2008 to form the author co-citation network. We calculated the ranks of these 108 authors based on PageRank with the damping factor ranging from 0.05 to 0.95. In order to test the relationship between different measures, we compared PageRank and weighted PageRank results with the citation ranking, h-index, and centrality measures. We found that in our author co-citation network, citation rank is highly correlated with PageRank with different damping factors and also with different weighted PageRank algorithms; citation rank and PageRank are not significantly correlated with centrality measures; and h-index rank does not significantly correlate with centrality measures but does significantly correlate with other measures. The author co-citation analysis (ACA) method is commonly used to group authors of reference papers. Since the traditional ACA method analyzes only first authors of reference papers, it disregards the contributions of other coauthors and can only group each first author into one cluster. This study proposes an innovative ACA algorithm called “complete author pair (CAP) algorithm”, which groups complete author sets of reference papers into clusters and thus finds authors who may have expertise in more than one area. The CAP algorithm is implemented in two citation data banks that collected paper references from two ACM journals during 2002–2005. The proposal of this research is to analyze and attract public attention to the research front of the subject Metric Studies, in the Information Science area. Citations and co-citations were analyzed in articles of the periodicals published online by SciELO, namely: Ciência da Informação and Perspectiva em Ciência da Informação. It was estimated that the frequency of citations and co-citations shows the established relations between the researchers and the front of research in the subject, considering that the citations and cocitations show researches with subject similarities and ideas association or co-occurrence. It was used, initially, the universe of 388 articles; 53 (13.7%, including the two periodicals mentioned) of them are about the subject Metric Studies. The cited authors were examined; in a total of 1514 citations, 35 authors had been cited at least 6 times in a total of 318 citations. The cocitation matrix consisted of a symmetrical matrix, 18x18, with co-citations delineating a first research front. The pioneering authors in metric studies compose the core of this front. The intention in this article is to represent the ongoing intellectual structure of Psychology research (as domain of scientific knowledge) in Spain. To this end within the domain analysis the most suitable bibliometric method to reveal the intellectual structure of the discipline in Spain has been selected. This method is cocitation analysis, which is characterized by its objectivity, and in this case, with journals as the unit of measurement. Therefore the resulting representation permits us to group the journals according to the similarity of subject matter marked by the uses of Spanish researcher. Author cocitation analysis (ACA) has frequently been applied over the last two decades for mapping the intellectual structure of a research field as represented by its authors. However, what is mapped in ACA is actually the structure of intellectual influences on a research field as perceived by its active authors. In this exploratory paper, by contrast, we introduce author bibliographic-coupling analysis (ABCA) as a method to map the research activities of active authors themselves for a more realistic picture of the current state of research in a field. We choose the information science (IS) field and study its intellectual structure both in terms of current research activities as seen from ABCA and in terms of intellectual influences on its research as shown from ACA. We examine how these two aspects of the intellectual structure of the IS field are related, and how they both developed during the “first decade of the Web,” 1996–2005. We find that these two citation-based author-mapping methods complement each other, and that, in combination, they provide a more comprehensive view of the intellectual structure of the IS field than either of them can provide on its own. We provide in this article a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author co-citation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors' co-citation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The 'Author's Effect of Showcasing' (AES] is the activity of publishing authors who shape by free will the formal reference stock of their communications cited directly and item by item, placing this formal reference stock into the showcase of science -- consciously or unconsciously. This first paper of the study demonstrates the emergence, causes and traces of the AES phenomenon in the journal literature of the natural sciences already in the mature Little Science age, and the continuous existence of the phenomenon ever since. The perception and cognition of the effect is shown on the basis of the relevant findings of the present author's previous, manual fact-finding reference investigations based on autopsy, processing around 27,600 journal communications and reference stocks containing more than 322,000 citations, Finally, a summarizing definition of the notion of the effect is given. The old Asian legend about the blind men and the elephant comes to mind when looking at how different authors of scientific papers describe a piece of related prior work. It turns out that different citations to the same paper often focus on different aspects of that paper and that neither provides a full description of its full set of contributions. In this article, we will describe our investigation of this phenomenon. We studied citation summaries in the context of research papers in the biomedical domain. A citation summary is the set of citing sentences for a given article and can be used as a surrogate for the actual article in a variety of scenarios. It contains information that was deemed by peers to be important. Our study shows that citation summaries overlap to some extent with the abstracts of the papers and that they also differ from them in that they focus on different aspects of these papers than do the abstracts. In addition to this, co-cited articles (which are pairs of articles cited by another article) tend to be similar. The debate about which similarity measure one should use for the normalization in the case of Author Co-citation Analysis (ACA) is further complicated when one distinguishes between the symmetrical co-citation—or, more generally, co-occurrence—matrix and the underlying asymmetrical citation—occurrence—matrix. In the Web environment, the approach of retrieving original citation data is often not feasible. In that case, one should use the Jaccard index, but preferentially after adding the number of total citations (i.e., occurrences) on the main diagonal. Unlike Salton's cosine and the Pearson correlation, the Jaccard index abstracts from the shape of the distributions and focuses only on the intersection and the sum of the two sets. As the low-consensus field of higher education grows, it negotiates constraints and possibilities in the topics engaged and the scholars included. To trace the shifting patterns of research topics in higher education studies during the past 20 years, we examined networks of the topical structures of ASHE conference papers and a subset of U.S. higher education journals. Topical and co-citation networks indicated that the field may be at a point of reconfiguration. We found shifts in terminology, frameworks, and methodologies related to increasingly disconnected topic clusters.
