The article is devoted to the study of one of the main controversial points in the historiography of the largest post-revolutionary religious and philosophical association of Petrograd-Leningrad in the 1920s - "Voskresen’ya". This issue is connected with the history of the brotherhood "Hristos i Svoboda" ("Christ and Freedom"), created, according to the established historiographical tradition, at the religious and philosophical circle "Voskresen’ya". It was revealed that the only source through which we learn about the existence of this "brotherhood" are the memories of E.N. Fedotova. Other sources do not contain a word about this "brotherhood". It is not mentioned either in the investigative materials or in the memoirs of the participants of the "Voskresen’ya". Almost all researchers of the history of "Voskresen’ya" ignore this moment, and only two articles express doubts about the existence of this brotherhood, which are not supported by evidence. In this study, an attempt is made to consider this issue more closely than it was done earlier. All currently available sources on the history of religious and philosophical associations - "Vtorniki" and "Voskresen’ya" – were reviewed and analyzed. As a result of the analysis of the historiography of the issue, errors and inaccuracies existing in the works of researchers related to the history of "Vtorniki" and "Voskresen’ya" were revealed. As a result of the application of the comparative historical method, it was possible to reveal that all publications mentioning the "brotherhood" unreasonably call it the brotherhood "Hristos i Svoboda", ignoring the fact that there is no information in the source to support this judgment, since E.N. Fedotova mentions precisely the "brotherhood with the vow "Christ and Freedom", without a clear designation of its name. It was revealed that the vow "Christ and Freedom" mentioned by E.N. Fedotova really took place within the framework of the activities of the "Voskresen’ya". The combination of these words in the updated program of "Voskresen’ya" from 1928, as well as a number of other indirect facts, allowed us to draw a parallel and put a sign of identity between the brotherhood "Hristos i Svoboda" and "Voskresen’ya". On the basis of indirect signs, the fact of inaccuracies and unreliable facts in the memoirs of E.N. Fedotova, it was assumed that the message about the "brotherhood" was based on the erroneous ideas of E.N. Fedotova. Since her husband G.P. Fedotov participated in the meetings of the Brotherhood of St. Sophia in Petrograd, it remains likely that years later E.N. Fedotova could have mistakenly used the word "brotherhood" in relation to the religious and philosophical association known to us as "Voskresen’ya".

In the vein of important observations made by several scholars, in this article I discuss a variegated corpus of early sefirotic passages attesting to the prevalence and conventionality of spherical perceptions of the sefirot , already at the earliest stages of the sefirotic literature known to us. First, I show that for at least a substantial number of the earliest authors, seeing the sefirot as a set of concentric, hierarchical spherical divine entities was a self-evident premise. Second, I offer a tripartite division of the material, based on the different types of inner hierarchies characterizing the spherical descriptions. For each of these types I offer a relevant ideational context, related to contemporary cosmological conventions as well as to various theological notions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BASIC income ,BLOCKCHAINS - Abstract
The paper reviews Circles UBI as an illustrative case study of implementing the idea of universal basic income (UBI) on blockchain. Circles was born out of the Gnosis Chain as a more democratic alternative to Bitcoin coupled with the ambitious political project of algorithmically distributing UBI. Backed by the Gnosis Chain, Circles Coop was founded in 2020 to implement this idea in Berlin. Examining the failure of the Berlin pilot helps us draw substantial conclusions with regard to the implementation of UBI on blockchain. UBI alone, on blockchain or not, is not enough to solve the problems its proponents argue against. UBI would be helpful as a tool if plugged into a model of production embedded into a political strategy aiming to fix key problems of current societies such as gaping inequalities and climate change. We give a snapshot here of the model of open cooperativism as a counterhegemonic political project vis-à-vis neoliberalism. Circles UBI could plug into the model of open cooperativism as a distribution and liquidity injection mechanism to foster the transition towards a commons-based ethical and sustainable post-capitalist economy. This article introduces a unique case study involving open curves of parabolic form situated within two-dimensional spaces. It presents a new form of a two-dimensional curve achieved by repositioning the focal point to coincide with the vertex position, resulting in what is termed a Semi-Parabolic Curve (SPC) where the focal point acts as the vertex referred to as the SPC head point. In essence, the SPC represents the path traced by a point on a plane, where its distance from a fixed point (the focus), is always greater than or equal to its distance from a fixed straight line (the directrix). Furthermore, the article provides the coordinate equations that govern the points along these curves. With the potential to pave the way for exploring additional geometric aspects relevant to this class of curves, and to enabling comparative analyses across diverse mathematical and geometric domains, particularly in three-dimensional contexts in the future.

Lehmann, Timothy H.
- Abstract
The study of the area of circles is an important component of mathematics education for students of all ages; however, evidence suggests that many middle school students struggle to interpret and apply the area formula of a circle. In this article, I report the findings of a classroom design study conducted to investigate the collective establishment and justification for the area formula of a circle. An instructional sequence comprising paper-based decomposition and recomposition measurement tasks situated on a grid was implemented in a Year 8 classroom (
n = 18) and the collective mathematical practices that emerged from an analysis of the argumentation of students during whole-class discussion were documented. The findings extend the existing literature by illustrating how decomposition/recomposition tasks can be leveraged in a classroom context by grounding students’ reasoning in measurement strategies and opportunities to examine alternative strategies and justifications through whole-class discussions. Toni Morrison suggests that storytelling is a highly effective way of structuring knowledge, and that the harnessing of a clever allegory, the search for well-patterned language is a constant, provocative engagement with the contemporary world. This article considers the ways poetry, imagination, and well-patterned language are utilized in the philosophies of Ralph Waldo Emerson, Richard Rorty, and Leonard Harris. The author notes that there are apparent similarities between Rorty and Harris, but one should also notice that there are significant differences in these two philosophical positions. The author ultimately argues that Harris's move toward poetry and well-patterned language is extremely powerful and needed if people wish to move beyond a well-established set of values and norms. Harris prods us to tell thought-provoking, engaging stories—to intricately tuck knowledge into allegory and well-patterned language—but do it without being an apologist for the prevailing bourgeois liberal democratic tradition. In this manner, the harnessing of metaphor and clever allegory, the creative engagement with poetry and well-patterned language (in philosophy) is a provocative means of engaging the oppression, dispossession, and immiseration of the contemporary world. This essay remaps geographies of belonging in Athens. It thinks the city in circles and circulations, writing an anticolonial Athens made out of nonlinear geographies and histories, anti-border struggles, anticolonial pasts and futures, migrations and mobilisations. The essay writes three circular movements: narrating how Athens is part of a Mediterranean feedback loop in which struggles are in constant circulation; thinking a circular square in the middle of the city as a polis not dictated by ideas of ethnos; and following the ways that people make new choreographies of belonging in the dance circle, finding footwork out of step with the restrictive rhythms of the nation. These movements are forms of spatial resistance, and the essay closes by sharing some methods of movement writing. Through these circular movements, the essay seeks to map ways out of the linear geographies and histories of empire, and the ongoing colonialities of citizenship. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Classification and treatment of acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) dislocations according to the Rockwood classification is controversial. The "circles measurement" on Alexander views was proposed to enable a clear assessment of displacement in ACJ dislocations. However, the method and its ABC classification were introduced on a Sawbones model based on exemplary Rockwood scenarios without soft tissue. This is the first in vivo study to investigate the circles measurement. We aimed to compare this new measurement method with the Rockwood classification and the previously described semiquantitative degree of dynamic horizontal translation (DHT). A total of 100 consecutive patients (87 men and 13 women) with acute ACJ dislocations between 2017 and 2020 were included retrospectively. The mean age was 41 years (range, 18-71 years). ACJ dislocations on panoramic stress views were classified according to Rockwood type (type II, n = 8; type IIIA, n = 9; type IIIB, n = 24; type IV, n = 7; and type V, n = 52). On Alexander views, where the hand of the affected arm rested on the contralateral shoulder, the circles measurement and the semiquantitative degree of DHT (none, n = 6; partial, n = 15; or complete, n = 79) were assessed. Convergent and discriminant validity of the circles measurement (including its ABC classification according to displacement) with the coracoclavicular distance and Rockwood types, as well as the semiquantitative degree of DHT, was tested. The circles measurement showed a strong correlation with the coracoclavicular distance according to the Rockwood classification (r = 0.66, P <.001) and differentiated between Rockwood types according to the ABC classification, including types IIIA and IIIB. The circles measurement correlated with the semiquantitative method of assessing DHT (r = 0.61, P <.001). Measurement values were smaller in cases without DHT than in cases with partial DHT (P =.008). Cases with complete DHT had respectively larger measurement values (P <.001). In this first in vivo study, the circles measurement allowed differentiation between Rockwood types according to the ABC classification in acute ACJ dislocations with a single measurement and correlated with the semiquantitative degree of DHT. On the basis of these validations of the circles measurement, its use for evaluating ACJ dislocations is recommended. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Learning media is one of the tools used by teachers to improve quality and overcome some learning problems. One of the problems that is often encountered by students is about understanding the concept. One of the learning media that can be designed to overcome this problem is student worksheets or LKPD. This study aims to describe the process and results of contextual-based E-LKPD development on class VIII circle material using live worksheets so that a valid and feasible product is produced. This research refers to a 4D development model that is modified into 3D (Define, Design, Develop). The results showed that the level of validity or feasibility of product development from the assessment of media experts got a percentage of 80.47% which was in the "Decent" category. From the assessment of material experts, the percentage of 90% is in the "Very feasible" category. From the trials conducted on the teacher, the percentage of 98.21% was in the "Very feasible" category. The last trial conducted on a small group of 9 students of class VIII got a percentage of 95% which was in the "Very feasible" category. The development of contextual-based E-LKPD with live worksheets media in the class VIII circle material is valid and feasible to be used as a learning medium that can be used to develop students' conceptual understanding.

It was first utilized for bitcoin as a more secure means of conducting financial transactions. The scientific and financial sectors have been more interested in blockchain-based computer systems in recent years. a peer-to-peer network that is not controlled by a trustworthy third party. There are several blockchains available today, including Ethereum, Hyperledger, Tezos, and others. Blockchains are appealing to a wide range of applications because each one has a unique operating mode and transaction validation consensus. All required stakeholders in the field of education must have access to a dependable technology in order to progress the educational system and bring it to the next level. The blockchain possesses all of the necessary characteristics to do this mission, but in order to be deployed on a broader scale, it must also provide data security and privacy. The authors consider a problem of packing circles of given types in a circular container. Circles are allowed to cross the container boundary in a predefined neighborhood that depends on the circle type (pseudo-inclusion condition). A family of circles is placed in the container under the conditions of their non-intersection, pseudo-inclusion, and compliance with the given proportions of circle types (proportionality condition) in order to maximize the total number of circles. A mathematical model is constructed as a problem of mixed integer nonlinear programming. A heuristic algorithm is proposed that applies a nonlinear programming problem to pack a given number of circles in a circular container, maximizing the variable radii of the circles. The results of the computational experiments are given. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the article are analyzed the feuilletons written by Fyodor Dostoevsky in 1847 for the column “Peterburgskaya Letopis” in the journal “Sankt-Peterburgskie Vedomosti”, where the writer tried to present his worldview relying not on philosophical and theological concepts but on artistic images and symbols that can be found in other texts from this period. However, in the case of journal articles, these images are shown far more clearly, due to the lack of plot, and can be interpreted more easily than in those cases when they are part of the complex structure of a work of fiction. These texts can be defined as the writer’s “explanatory dictionary”, where Dostoevsky clarifies the main images and techniques of his creative work.

Our ways of seeing, of being, of knowing in the world are shaped by relationship. These relationships reflect the complex dynamic that exists as we navigate between the living layers of human nature, desire, loss, connection and disconnection, certainty and uncertainty. Across the space of this piece, I seek to breathe, to move with observant awareness through emotion and cognition. I want to acknowledge the deep sense of absence that reverberates across my consciousness, an absence that is both spiritual and etymological. This absence reflects the complexity of my subjectivity as a mother, an educator, one who navigates within the narrative of colonization, and a synchronicity of spirit that transcends self. It is through the breath that I find myself in rhythm, connected to the land—spirit, (be)longing with/in (un)certainty. Poetry, prose, and photographs intermingle upon the pages, offering an assemblage of being, of (un)knowing, of breathing amidst (im)permanence. This work creates space for me to better know myself as scholar, teacher, mother—as one who lives upon a stolen, sacred landscape, while creating openings for dialogue, disruption, and praxis.

An important topic in the field of geometric optimization is finding the largest rectangle separating two different points sets, which has significant applications in circuit design and data science. We consider some extensions of the maximum bichromatic separating rectangle (MBSR) problem. In one of the extensions, the optimal rectangle may include up to k outliers, where k is given as part of the input. This extension and is called MBSR with outliers or MBSR-O. In this paper, we improve the current known time bounds for MBSR-O from O (k 7 m log m + n) to O (k 3 m + k m log m + n) using a clever staircase sweep approach. We also propose another extension, which is named MBSR among circles or MBSR-C and asks for the largest rectangle separating red points from blue unit circles. Our solution to MBSR-C is an O (m 2 + n) -time algorithm that involves an optimized scanning of all candidate circle arcs for locations of potential optimal solutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this age of isolation, exacerbated by an increased number of natural disasters and their associated impact, we are faced with a deepening poverty of social connections and a high degree of polarisation on multiple counts. Designed for contexts ranging from workplaces to spiritual discourse, more and more instances of intentional conversations are surfacing across the world. It is only when we are able to appreciate the view of 'another', that we are truly able to step beyond the boundary of the self. In this paper, we explore a practitioner's perspective on three formats of gathering that are currently practiced at the International Society for the Systems Sciences. Using social and humanistic values, we outline how these three simple yet powerful techniques embody inclusivity, with the intention of inspiring its readers to consider hosting alternate forms of meetings in academic and organisational settings, thus creating grounds for compassionate understanding. A new curve is produced and graphically studied. The name of my daughter, Nada, has been given to this curve; in other words, Nada is used to describe this curve whenever it is used in this paper. “Nada’s curve” is a form of closed curve that is constructed when the circle’s diameter and the ellipse’s minor axis share the same length, and they are tangent by a point from a drawn line passing through the circumstances of the circle and ellipse. Then, from these two intersection points, the point of intersection of the vertical and horizontal lines is selected to determine a point of Nada’s curve. By sharing two vertically lined points on both the circle’s diameter and the ellipse’s minor axis, the parametric equation can be simplified and calculated easily, starting with an equation of the circle: x2 +(y-1)2 =1. Cases of Nada’s curve were graphically investigated in this study. The surface generated by the revolution of Nada’s curve around its axis is called “Nadaoid.”

COVID-19 pandemic ,LIMINALITY ,EVERYDAY life ,PERFORMANCES - Abstract
This article reflects on the sociopolitical, cultural, and health landscape(s) of our current moment in time, addressing how intersecting crises have delivered us to an unprecedented moment for drama, theatre, and performance. As communities across the world have had to dispense with staples of everyday life – attending live theatre performances being one of these –, so art, in all its forms, has never been more significant in its capacity to bring us together, even if modes of togetherness have shifted in their referentiality and locationality. As the article proposes, we need to take an intuitive approach to the appreciation of how our ecologies – in their broadest iteration – have been impacted and realigned by the COVID-19 pandemic in such ways that we can expect that our future scholarship(s) on plays, place, and landscape will and, indeed, ought to reflect this experience. Dialogues on theatre and environment, which are already intersectional, are now receiving yet another focusing lens through the pandemic. The article also suggests that our understandings of how our ecologies have been adapted invite a consideration of new modes of engaging with the environment in our discourses – and of the very term itself and what it might encompass – and new economies in calibrating our discourses to reflect our radically redistributed individual and collective experiences. The text offers examples of categories that emerge particularly strongly where spatial liminality is key; in so doing, it asserts that in-betweenness is a central element towards understanding our contemporary role and responsibilities: from collapsing binaries (environment/economy) to the unmoored experience of our times. Drawing on the contributions of this theme section, this introduction stakes out an agenda for the anthropological study of revolutionary circles. Understood as a powerful model of and for political action, the revolutionary circle renders the desire for radical political change as a function of the circular configuration of the group of people who pursue it. This correlation of political ends with social means puts questions of "political morphology"—actors' concern with the shape of their relationships—at the center of revolutionary action. As the articles of the theme section illustrate, such a concern with social shapes plays itself out not only in questions of political organization, but also those of personal relationships and ethical comportment, practices of secrecy and dissemination, shared activities and values, and their different potentials for transformation over time. 36. Surfaces that are covered by two pencils of circles.

- Abstract
We list up to Möbius equivalence all possible degrees and embedding dimensions of real surfaces that are covered by at least two pencils of circles, together with the number of such pencils. In addition, we classify incidences between the contained circles, complex lines and isolated singularities. Such geometric characteristics are encoded in the Néron–Severi lattices of such surfaces and is of potential interest to geometric modelers and architects. As an application we confirm Blum's conjecture in higher dimensional space and we address the Blaschke–Bol problem by classifying surfaces that are covered by hexagonal webs of circles. In particular, we find new examples of such webs that cannot be embedded in 3-dimensional space. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A large amount of data available on Web has proven to be an immense resource for innovative recommender system (RS) techniques and concepts. The traditional recommender system intended to provide recommendations for a single user. However, in certain domains the recommendation is required for a group of users. As to provide better recommendations for a group of users, we leverage the concept of circles in a network. In this work, we use the genetic algorithm (GA) K_Means clustering algorithm to generate social circles in a network. Then, we compute the status of each user in these overlapping circles. Finally, a circle-based group recommendation approach is used to generate the final group recommendation. The results obtained on the Epinions dataset validate the eminence of the proposed model over traditional approaches of group recommendation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HISTORY of biology , *HISTORY of medicine , *SEXUAL cycle , *PHYSICS , *ENVIRONMENTAL medicine - Abstract
We invite systematic consideration of the metaphors of cycles and circulation as a long-term theme in the history of the life and environmental sciences and medicine. Ubiquitous in ancient religious and philosophical traditions, especially in representing the seasons and the motions of celestial bodies, circles once symbolized perfection. Over the centuries cyclic images in western medicine, natural philosophy, natural history and eventually biology gained independence from cosmology and theology and came to depend less on strictly circular forms. As potent 'canonical icons', cycles also interacted with representations of linear and irreversible change, including arrows, arcs, scales, series and trees, as in theories of the Earth and of evolution. In modern times life cycles and reproductive cycles have often been held to characterize life, in some cases especially female life, while human efforts selectively to foster and disrupt these cycles have harnessed their productivity in medicine and agriculture. But strong cyclic metaphors have continued to link physiology and climatology, medicine and economics, and biology and manufacturing, notably through the relations between land, food and population. From the grand nineteenth-century transformations of matter to systems ecology, the circulation of molecules through organic and inorganic compartments has posed the problem of maintaining identity in the face of flux and highlights the seductive ability of cyclic schemes to imply closure where no original state was in fact restored. More concerted attention to cycles and circulation will enrich analyses of the power of metaphors to naturalize understandings of life and their shaping by practical interests and political imaginations. 39. On Packing Thirteen Points in an Equilateral Triangle.

CONTINUOUS functions ,CALCULUS - Abstract
The conversation of how to maximize the minimum distance between points - or, equivalently, pack congruent circles - in an equilateral triangle began by Oler in the 1960s. In a 1993 paper, Melissen proved the optimal placements of 4 through 12 points in an equilateral triangle using only partitions and direct applications of Dirichlet's pigeon-hole principle. In the same paper, he proposed his conjectured optimal arrangements for 13, 14, 17, and 19 points in an equilateral triangle. In 1997, Payan proved Melissen's conjecture for the arrangement of fourteen points; and, in September 2020, Joos proved Melissen's conjecture for the optimal arrangement of thirteen points. These proofs completed the optimal arrangements of up to and including fifteen points in an equilateral triangle. Unlike Melissen's proofs, however, Joos's proof for the optimal arrangement of thirteen points in an equilateral triangle requires continuous functions and calculus. I propose that it is possible to continue Melissen's line of reasoning, and complete an entirely discrete proof of Joos's Theorem for the optimal arrangement of thirteen points in an equilateral triangle. In this paper, we make progress towards such a proof. We prove discretely that if either of two points is fixed, Joos's Theorem optimally places the remaining twelve. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It is well known that there is a unique circle passing through three specified points if and only if they are non-collinear. We show that there is also a unique circle passing through the endpoints of diameters of three specified circles if and only if they have non-collinear centres. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article characterizes the establishment and development of the Ukrainian national school in Nadsiannia, Lemkivshchyna and Kholmshchyna, where the activity of the Ukrainian political parties and organizations as well as national communities supporting schools was a common attribute. The research proves the Ukrainian education to become a central object for the Ukrainian national and cultural organizations such as “Prosvita”, “Ridna Shkola”, “Uchytelska Hromada” and others. The work highlights the role of the Ukrainian Pedagogical Society spreading its activity over Eastern Voevodstvos in Poland. The article points out that the group belonging to “Ridna Shkola” played a significant role in the national and cultural life of Ukrainians in Nadsiannia as well as the activity of the Greek and Catholic church (of bishop Josaphat Joseph Kotsylovsky). It represents the fact that in Kholmshchyna the school education development was a part of the national school structures and the Ukrainian population in particular. This led to the establishment of the charity and education society “Ridna Khata” (“Batkivsky Dim”). The most important contribution was made by the following groups “Sokil”, Sich”, “Luh”, “Silsky Hospodar”, Soyuz Ukrayinok” and others. In Peremysk, Yaroslav, Sian and Kholm districts it was “Prosvita” which supported the improvement of the cultural and educational level of people in Nadsiannia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®) was used to provide weekly social skills training to a group of 10 college students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) between ages 18 and 26 attending an inclusive residential postsecondary college program. Additionally, Circles curriculum was used to supplement the PEERS curriculum for teaching social relationship boundaries. An average of 12 sessions per semester of PEERS® training sessions were conducted over each academic year. The present study examines the impact of the program on social skills, friendship qualities, and conversational skills. Results showed increased social skill knowledge, friendship quality, and conversational skills from pretest to posttest intervention. In this paper, we discuss the training program, results, implications for practice, limitations, and future research needs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article examines the influence of Virgil upon the poetry of Seamus Heaney through the theoretical lens of Jacques Derrida’s Specters of Marx. The paper argues that the present and future are influenced by spectres of the past through what Derrida would term hauntology. Heaney’s later poetry inherits deeply from what has come before it in terms of classical mythology. Similarities are drawn between contemporary Northern Ireland and that of the classical past in the poetry and it is the circular, repetitive nature of history that enables the poet to locate a plateau, outside his primary world, to view the events of his present world.

- Abstract
In this paper I am exploring why I am drawn to such labour intensive craft as weaving. In a wider perspective I ask what place slow craft has in our post industrial society. I try to find the meaning of slowness and monotonous work. I do this by repeatedly working with the circle as a motif in my weaves. By growing my own pigments to dye with I examine differ- ent kinds of slow processes. I investigate the meaning embedded in the finished weaves. I come to understand how I use weaving as a way of thinking.
