Background: The prognostic value of body temperature in sepsis-induced coagulopathy (SIC) remains unclear. In this study we aimed to investigate the association between temperature and mortality among SIC patients.Methods: We analyzed data for 9,860 SIC patients from an intensive care database. Patients were categorized by maximum temperature in the first 24 hours into the following: ≤36.0°C; 36.0–37.0°C; 37.0–38.0°C; 38.0–39.0°C; and ≥39.0°C. The primary outcome was 28-day mortality. Authigenic chlorite, which is frequently found in sandstone, has a controlling effect on the reservoirs in which tight oil is adsorbed during hydrocarbon filling. In this study, the content, occurrence state, timing, mechanism and influence of authigenic chlorite on the micro-occurrence states of tight oil were studied using Thin Section (TS), Fluorescent Thin Section (FTS), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Field Emission-Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy (ESEM), and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS). The results indicate: (1) a spatial coupling between chlorite development, a brackish water delta front facies depositional environment, and biotite-rich arkosic sandstone. (2) Authigenic chlorite can be divided into three types: grain-coating chlorite, pore-lining chlorite, and rosette chlorite. Chlorite forms after early compaction but before other diagenetic phases, and grows via precipitation from pore waters that contain products released during the dissolution of volcanic rock fragments and biotites. Porewater is also pressure-released from feldspars and mudstone. (3) The micro-occurrence states of tight oil can be divided into five types: emulsion form, cluster form, throat form, thin-film form, and the isolated or agglomerated particle form. (4) During hydrocarbon filling, tight oil mainly occurs on the surface of grain-coating and pore-lining chlorite in the form of a thin film, the granular or agglomerated forms are mainly enriched within the intercrystalline pores within the authigenic chlorite, and the cluster forms are mainly enriched in dissolution pores. Isolated or agglomerated particles of tight oil primarily occur in the intercrystalline pores of the rosette chlorite. (5) The specific surface area and the authigenic chlorite’s adsorption potential of authigenic chlorite control the micro-occurrence of tight oil on the surface of the chlorite and in intercrystalline pores. The adsorption capacity of chlorite lies in the following order: pore-lining chlorite intercrystalline pores > rosette chlorite > chlorite in feldspar dissolution pores > pore-lining chlorite surface > grain-coating chlorite intercrystalline pores > grain-coating chlorite surface.

A study of the diagenetic evolution of sandstones from Panyu low-uplift in the Pearl River Mouth Basin was carried out to unravel the controls on shelf margin sandstone reservoir quality. The reservoir rocks, Oligocene volcanic clastic sandstones of the Zhuhai Formation, have a burial depth of 2765 to 3440 m. 70 samples were studied using the granulometric analyses, X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses, porosity and permeability measurements, SEM observations, and mercury porosimetry measurements. The sandstones are fine- to medium-grained lithic sub-arkose, sub-litharenite, and sub-arkose with an average framework composition of Q72F13L15. High content and strongly altered volcanic rock fragments are the most important detrital components. In this work, typical diagenetic processes such as compaction, VRF (volcanic rock fragments) and feldspar dissolution, carbonate cements, quartz overgrowth, and clay cements are observed. Cements in eodiagenesis stage mainly include clay coating, early calcite and siderite. The main mesogenetic cements include kaolinite, ankerite, and minor quartz. The dissolution of VRF, feldspar, and carbonate cements is the most distinguishing feature which had controlled porosity and permeability. Carbon and oxygen isotopes were measured to discuss the carbon sources for precipitation and diagenetic temperatures of carbonate cements extensively developed in sampled intervals. Pore types in the analyzed samples change from a mix of primary to secondary pores. Primary pores have been destroyed by mechanical compaction or occluded by quartz, clay, and carbonate cements. Secondary pores were generated by the dissolution of VRF and feldspars during burial history. Its volume varied from trace to 8% and greatly improved the porosity of sandstones with increasing burial depth. Porosity varies from 4% to 20% in this work and is the highest for the samples where carbonate cement contents are low and dissolution is well developed.

Tumor-associated adipocytes (TAAs) recruit monocytes and promote their differentiation into tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) that support tumor development. Here, TAAs are engineered to promote the polarization of TAMs to the tumor suppressive M1 phenotype. Telratolimod, a toll-like receptor 7/8 agonist, is loaded into the lipid droplets of adipocytes to be released at the tumor site upon tumor cell-triggered lipolysis. Locally administered drug-loaded adipocytes increased tumor suppressive M1 macrophages in both primary and distant tumors and suppressed tumor growth in a melanoma model. Furthermore, drug-loaded adipocytes improved CD8+ T cell-mediated immune responses within the tumor microenvironment and favored dendritic cell maturation in the tumor draining lymph nodes.

Glucose-responsive insulin delivery systems that mimic insulin secretion activity in the pancreas show great potential to improve clinical therapeutic outcomes for people with type 1 and advanced type 2 diabetes. Here, we report a glucose-responsive insulin delivery microneedle (MN) array patch that is loaded with red blood cell (RBC) vesicles or liposome nanoparticles containing glucose transporters (GLUTs) bound with glucosamine-modified insulin (Glu-Insulin). In hyperglycemic conditions, high concentrations of glucose in interstitial fluid can replace Glu-Insulin via a competitive interaction with GLUT, leading to a quick release of Glu-Insulin and subsequent regulation of blood glucose (BG) levels in vivo. To prolong the effective glucose-responsive insulin release from MNs, additional free Glu-Insulin, which serves as stored insulin, is loaded after RBC vesicles or liposome nanoparticles bound with Glu-Insulin. In the streptozotocin (STZ)-induced type 1 diabetic mouse model, this smart GLUT-based insulin patch can effectively control BG levels without causing hypoglycemia.

Although the chemical literature contains many studies of multimedia-based learning and teacher enthusiasm, there is a paucity of research on whether and to what extent teacher enthusiasm in video lectures affects students' learning, especially in chemistry. In this context, this mixed-method study used eye tracking and quantitative analysis to investigate how a teacher with different levels of enthusiasm influenced students' learning in video lectures. Junior middle-school students were selected to engage in this eye-tracking research. We set up 35 such students as a group to view an experimental video with a low level of teacher enthusiasm, and 35 others as another group to view another experimental video with a high level of teacher enthusiasm. The essential tool for capturing the students' visual attention was an EyeLink 1000 Plus eye tracker. The total dwell time, fixation counts, average fixation duration, and transition counts were recorded and analyzed, and the results showed that the teacher enthusiasm in the video lectures had an indirect positive effect on the students' self-efficacy and learning performance and was negatively associated with cognitive load. In addition, students paid more attention to the teacher with the higher level of enthusiasm.

Epigenetics is a biological process that modifies and regulates gene expression, affects neuronal function, and contributes to pain. However, the mechanism by which epigenetics facilitates and maintains chronic pain is poorly understood. We aimed to determine whether [N.sup.6]-methyladenosine (m6A) specifically modified by methyltransferase-like 14 (METTL14) alters neuronal activity and governs pain by sensitizing the GluN2A subunit of the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) in the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons in a model of chemotherapy-induced neuropathic pain (CINP). Using dot blotting, immunofluorescence, gain/loss-of-function, and behavioral assays, we found that m6A levels were upregulated in L4-L6 DRG neurons in CINP in a DBP/METTL14-dependent manner, which was also confirmed in human DRGs. Blocking METTL14 reduced m6A methylation and attenuated pain hypersensitivity. Mechanistically, METTL14-mediated m6A modification facilitated the synaptic plasticity of DRG neurons by enhancing the GluN2A subunit of NMDAR, and inhibiting METTL14 blocked this effect. In contrast, overexpression of METTL14 upregulated m6A modifications, enhanced presynaptic NMDAR activity in DRG neurons, and facilitated pain sensation. Our findings reveal a previously unrecognized mechanism of METTL14-mediated m6A modification in DRG neurons to maintain neuropathic pain. Abstract Background Stem cell therapy is a promising treatment for cerebral palsy, which refers to a category of brain diseases that are associated with chronic motor disability in children. Autologous MSCs may be a better cell source and have been studied for the treatment of cerebral palsy because of their functions in tissue repair and the regulation of immunological processes. Methods To assess neural stem cell–like (NSC-like) cells derived from autologous marrow mesenchymal stem cells as a novel treatment for patients with moderate-to-severe cerebral palsy, a total of 60 cerebral palsy patients were enrolled in this open-label, non-randomised, observer-blinded controlled clinical study with a 6-months follow-up. For the transplantation group, a total of 30 cerebral palsy patients received an autologous NSC-like cells transplantation (1-2 × 107 cells into the subarachnoid cavity) and rehabilitation treatments whereas 30 patients in the control group only received rehabilitation treatment. Results We recorded the gross motor function measurement scores, language quotients, and adverse events up to 6 months post-treatment. The gross motor function measurement scores in the transplantation group were significantly higher at month 3 (the score increase was 42.6, 95% CI: 9.8–75.3, P=.011) and month 6 (the score increase was 58.6, 95% CI: 25.8–91.4, P=.001) post-treatment compared with the baseline scores. The increase in the Gross Motor Function Measurement scores in the control group was not significant. The increases in the language quotients at months 1, 3, and 6 post-treatment were not statistically significant when compared with the baseline quotients in both groups. All the 60 patients survived, and none of the patients experienced serious adverse events or complications. Conclusion Our results indicated that NSC-like cells are safe and effective for the treatment of motor deficits related to cerebral palsy. Further randomised clinical trials are necessary to establish the efficacy of this procedure.
