Abstract

Since its inception in 1983, NOAA's Regional Climate Center (RCC) Program has been providing timely, customized climate services for decision making across all climate-sensitive sectors. Through this 40-yr period, the RCC Program has not only seen but also has played an active role in, the evolution of climate services from the days of climate data libraries--where books of data were consulted to fulfill simple data requests--to coproduced tools that can calculate sectoral-specific, on-the-fly climate analyses in a matter of seconds. With new technologies emerging, the RCC Program is poised to build on its reputation as a trusted climate service provider by incorporating advanced methods for climate service delivery to continue to meet the needs of the nation. This publication will provide a look back at the evolution of regional climate services over the past 40 years, along with a vision for the future. Abstract

We review currently available Canadian and international lithostratigraphic and lithodemic schemes and find most of them inadequate for classifying intrusive and strongly metamorphosed rocks of Canada and beyond. A new system is proposed, one that unifies, complements, and extends components of the revised North American Stratigraphic Code, the British Geological Survey Rock Unit Classification System of 2021, and the International Stratigraphic Guide of 1999. This new Cooperative Lithodemic and Stratigraphic System (CLASS) is intended to serve as a practical guide to geoscientists who need to classify and report on lithodemic units in North America and has broad applicability to other jurisdictions. It is built with database management practices in mind and employs the concept of inheritance of root characteristics between seven formal rock unit ranks, which will allow incorporation of the scheme into compact object-oriented and relational databases designed for purpose. Broad application of CLASS, especially to historically problematic lithodemic units, should help to foster jurisdictional interoperability, data sharing, global compilations, and thematic studies. At the heart of this proposed system is a subdivision and accompanying nomenclature that allows classification of rocks into seven formal ranks. Following the well-established lithostratigraphic supergroup, group, subgroup, formation, member, submember, and bed approach, CLASS proposes three classes of lithodemic subdivisions for formally naming lithodemic rock units. Abstract

Despite southern South America being recognized as a hotspot for deep convective storms, little is known about the socioenvironmental impacts of high-impact weather (HIW) events. Although there have been past efforts to collect severe weather reports in the region, they have been highly fragmented among and within countries, sharing no common protocol, and limited to a particular phenomenon, a very specific region, or a short period of time. There is a pressing need for a more comprehensive understanding of the present risks linked to HIW events, specifically deep convective storms, on a global scale as well as their variability and potential future evolution in the context of climate change. A database of high-quality and systematic HIW reports and associated socioenvironmental impacts is essential to understand the regional atmospheric conditions leading to hazardous weather, to quantify its predictability, and to build robust early warning systems. To tackle this problem and following successful initiatives in other regions of the world, researchers, national weather service members, and weather enthusiasts from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay have embarked on a multinational collaboration to generate a standardized database of reports of HIW events principally associated with convective storms and their socioenvironmental impacts in South America. The goal of this paper is to describe this unprecedented initiative over the region, to summarize first results, and to discuss the potential applications of this collaboration. SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT: The South American Meteorological Hazards and their Impacts Database represents a collaborative multinational initiative aimed at systematically gathering data on high-impact weather events. Cross-border information exchange and collaborative efforts between national weather services, the academic sector, users, and weather enthusiasts will improve multihazard-impact-based forecasts and risk management strategies in the region. Abstract

Given inconsistencies in reporting methods and general lack of documentation, the creation of a unified tornado database across the world has been an elusive target for severe weather climatology purposes and historical interest. Previous online tornado documentation has also often been inconsistent or is now defunct. Many individual countries or continents maintain tornado information through either government-sponsored or independent organizations. The Tornado Archive was developed to create a first-of-its-kind digitized synthesis of worldwide tornado documentation, using the most complete sources of information available for regions known to be tornadically active. Spatial and temporal trends in tornado occurrence and reporting can be visualized through an interactive user interface with a variety of filtering methods and environmental reanalysis datasets, such as the fifth major global reanalysis produced by ECMWF (ERA5). The additional data introduced using Thomas Grazulis' Significant Tornadoes may be beneficial for tornado climatology studies over the United States. The Tornado Archive is also intended to be a collaborative exercise, with clear data attribution and open avenues for augmentation, and the creation of a common data model to store the tornado information will assist in maintaining and updating the database. In this work, we document the methods necessary for creating the Tornado Archive database, provide broader climatological analysis of spatiotemporal patterns in tornado occurrence, and outline potential use cases for the data. We also highlight its key limitations and emphasize the need for further international standardization of tornado documentation. SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT: Historical records of tornado occurrence across the world are dispersed among various sources and are sometimes difficult to access. We combined data from a wide variety of sources into a standardized database of over 100 000 tornadoes. This includes all recorded United States significant tornadoes from 1680 to 1949, which we digitized from a print volume. We hope our database will allow for analyses of tornado climatology to be more easily performed. Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the key technologies for the digital transformation of both business and society. The paper primarily aims to investigate the structure and dynamics of academic publications in English dealing with issues of IoT development - from a marketing perspective, using methods of systematic mapping, i.e., co-citation analysis, bibliographic coupling, and analysis of the co-occurrence of keywords in the Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) databases. Analysis of research papers enables the identification of the most influential articles, papers, and journals, as well as visualization of the keywords and co-authorship co-occurrences. There has been an exponential increase in studies on IoT applications in marketing, indexed in Scopus and WoS citation databases. An insight into analyzed papers shows that companies utilize large amounts of data generated by the IoT to gain insights into customers' supply and value creation, which helps strengthen their relationships with customers and pursue more efficient marketing policies and practices, ultimately leading to a competitive advantage. The IoT is expected to evolve into a vast network that includes smart devices and significantly influences people's behavior, especially decision-making at different stages of the purchasing process. Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to provide a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the literature on unemployment Takaful, job loss protection, and unemployment insurance from 2012 to 2023, illuminating trends, key contributions, and focal areas within the realm of insurance. Design/Methodology/Approach: Using the Scopus database, a systematic search was conducted using the keywords 'unemployment takaful', 'job loss protection', 'unemployment insurance', and 'insurance'. Publications were then analyzed to determine their distribution by year, contributing authors and institutions, citation frequency, keyword co-occurrence, and more. Findings: The period 2012 to 2023 witnessed a significant increase in research concerning unemployment protection mechanisms. 'Unemployment Insurance' emerges as a central topic, underscoring the focus on mechanisms to support individuals during joblessness, with major contributions from Friedman, 2014. Geographic distribution indicated a pronounced focus in United States (USA). Research Limitations/Implications: The analysis is constrained by the scope of the Scopus database and the selected keywords, potentially omitting relevant studies indexed elsewhere or under different terms. The findings underscore the need for interdisciplinary approaches in studying unemployment protection mechanisms and suggest potential avenues for future research. Practical Implications: The findings of this study showed there is a gap of the research in takaful discussing on the issues of employment safety. Most of the research conducted in developed nations and insurance company. This is suggested that, takaful should explored the are of unemployment takaful by providing an alternative for Muslim customers. Originality/Value: This bibliometric analysis presents a holistic overview of the literature landscape on unemployment protection mechanisms during a pivotal period. It serves as a foundational reference for researchers, policymakers, and industry stakeholders keen on understanding the evolution, trends, and gaps in this field. Abstract

Objective. This study aimed to synthesize the evidence from randomized clinical trials in people with nontraumatic degenerative meniscal pathology by comparing physical therapist interventions versus or combined with arthroscopic partial meniscectomy (APM). Methods. Seven electronic databases were searched. Methodological quality was evaluated using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database scale. Data synthesis was performed with random-effects network meta-analysis, and results were summarized using the standardized mean differences. Results. From 2103 studies, 10 randomized clinical trials comprising 1411 individuals were included. Ninety percent of the selected randomized clinical trials were classified as good quality according to the Physiotherapy Evidence Database scale. All interventions (physical therapist interventions, APM, and APM plus physical therapist interventions) showed reduced pain and physical impairments at 3-month follow-up. However, when a physical therapist intervention was included, greater reductions in pain at rest (APM vs physical therapist interventions: 0.73 [95% CI = 0.20 to 1.26]; APM vs APM plus physical therapist interventions: 0.59 [95% CI = 0.15 to 1.03]) and greater increases in the strength of knee extensor muscles (APM vs physical therapist interventions: 0.44 [95% CI = 0.07 to 0.80]; APM vs APM plus physical therapist interventions: 0.73 [95% CI = 0.29 to 1.16]) were observed at 3 months. By contrast, no differences were found between treatments beyond 3 months. Conclusion. Physical therapist interventions based on exercise programs demonstrate superior short-term outcomes in pain reduction and knee extensor strength compared to surgical treatment. Impact. For nontraumatic degenerative meniscal pathology, conservative treatment utilizing a physical therapist intervention approach should be prioritized as the first choice over surgical treatment. It offers comparable or superior short-term pain reduction and strength improvements, with a lower risk of side effects. In cases where surgery is deemed necessary, including postsurgical, physical therapist interventions are highly recommended to enhance muscle strength and alleviate pain. Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the current status, trends, and conceptual structure of research on Waqf by doing a bibliometric analysis. Design/methodology/approach: Bibliometric analysis was performed with a package called Biblioshiny from R-Studio. The current study applies bibliometric quantitative methods and conceptual structure in knowledge discoveries. In the foreground, on August 18, 2023, the screening process utilized looked for all references to 'Waqf' OR 'Waqaf' in Scopus' 'article title' and discovered 658 scholarly contributions from 1914 to 2023. Findings: A total of 658 documents authored by 1,188 scholars in 247 journals published in the Scopus database between 1914 and 2023 were included in the present bibliometric analysis. A total of 31 countries worked together in contributing to the waqf research in the database. There were 332 affiliations between the universities or institutes where the authors served. Current literature on Waqf in the Ottoman and real estate context is matured, which stresses the need for more research productivity, especially within areas regarding Waqf related to management, assets, cash waqf, waqf institutions as well as waqf formulation that now becoming the new direction and focus of future research. Research limitations/implications: One of the study's limitations is that the data for this study was only gathered from the Scopus database. It would be far more advantageous if other researchers could conduct bibliometric analyses of Waqf by combining the data from Dimensions, PubMed, Web of Science (WoS/Wok), the Cochrane Library, or another database. Furthermore, this study could be improved if the bibliometric analysis included Author and Source Impact, Lotka's Law, Bradford's Law, and other bibliometric elements for descriptive analysis. Intellectual and Social structure could be explored in future research. Practical implications: It will help the researcher to perform bibliometric analysis in any field with a clear research flow, from major online databases with an easy user interface in a very short time. Originality/value: This study allows the researcher to find the most significant author or article in the field of study in which they are interested by using the overview of earlier research provided by bibliometric analysis. It provides a thorough introduction to the research domain for scholars and practitioners who are interested in it. The cluster of research in the Waqf resulting from this study will help them focus on the next research area via a Co-occurrence Network and translated into thematic which will enhance the selection and focus of new research directions that have greater potential to contribute growth of the Waqf study significantly.
