The article discusses research on the roosts, abundance, and distribution of the fruit bat Artibeus (A.) fraterculus. It states that the study procedure included field surveys of roosting sites, the use of museum records for relative abundance estimates, and ecological niche modeling with maximum entropy (Maxent). It offers information on the results, indicating that the distributiion of A. fraterculus was limited to Ecuador and Peru. It also mentions that such results revealed a resilience of such bat species to human disturbance.

The article discusses the result of a study which analyzed the diversification and limits among small fruit-eating bats, Dermanura. Diversity estimates based on monophyly and cythochrome-b sequence divergence were compared to estimates of species diversity based on classical morphological criteria. Taxonomic history outlined nine species of small fruit-eating bats, including anderseni, azteca and cinerea, and were evaluated based on their morphological characters. The study found a geographic component to the diversification of Dermanura, including a historical affinity between western Andean and Middle American biota.

The article describes and names a species of bonneted bat from the lowlands of Ecuador and Peru. The Genetic Species Concept was the conceptual basis for the description of the species with speciation by the Bateson-Dobzhanzky-Muller model. The species was distinguished by its unique karyotype, sequence of mitochondrial cytochrome-b gene and genetic markers revealed through analysis of Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphisms. The new species was smaller than Eumop (E) floridanus and E. glaucinus. It has been proposed that common name for the species be Wilson's bonneted bat.
