This work investigates the potential utilisation of the agro-waste pineapple leaf fibre (PALF) as a green reinforcement in polypropylene (PP) composites. Generally, chemical treatment is used to clean the scratched PALF, and the effluents of those chemicals are discharged into nature. A new mechanical approach (carding) was used in this work to remove the remaining extraneous substances from the scratched and sun-dried PALF instead of using any chemical treatment. The percentage of sticky fibres and dust content decreased, and fibre breakage increased with the increasing number of carding passages. The individualized fibre properties were also influenced by the number of carding passages. The carding process reduced the diameter of PALF due to removal of extraneous materials. The tensile properties of raw PALF improved significantly until the fourth carding passage and further increase in the number of passages did not show any significant influence on the tenacity and modulus. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed the elimination of hemicellulose along with other gummy and waxy substances from the individualized PALF due to the carding action. The crystallinity % also increased after the carding process due to the removal of amorphous substances. As the reinforcement-matrix interfacial shear strength (IFSS) strongly influences the physico-mechanical properties of composites, IFSS of carded PALF reinforced finer and coarser PP fibre micro-bonded composites was also studied using the single fibre pull-out test (SFPT). Among different composites, the fourth carding passed PALF-reinforced finer PP fibre micro-bonded composite showed the highest IFSS. Additionally, the load- extension curves and SEM images of the tensile pulled-out surface were investigated to study the interfacial adhesion between PALF and PP micro-droplets. Changing the metallic card clothing on a carding machine is costly when the spinning mills want to card different fibers from cotton to terylene or vice versa. This article proposes a newly developed cylinder card clothing compatible with cotton and terylene fibers by Nb alloying of AISI 1090 steel so that the spinning mills can change the type of fiber without changing the card clothing. Based on an idea developed from classical carding balance theory to study the adaptability of the cylinder card clothing for cotton and terylene fibers, the wall shear stress was used as the basis for compatibility analysis of carding behavior and bearing capacity with cotton and terylene fibers and as the focus of this study. Nb alloying of AISI 1090 steel showed good wear resistance in carding areas after heat treatment with high hardness above 840 Hv0.2 and extremely fine grain grade of 13.5 class, which increased about 25% compared to conventional 80 WV. The testing results in the spinning mills, including one cotton and two terylene fibers, showed good performance with this newly developed card clothing. In this work, a new physical method was used to process agro-waste pineapple leaf fibres (PALF) instead of any chemical treatment for fabricating polypropylene (PP) matrix composites. The carding process was used for individualization and partial fibrillation of PALF, as well as for the removal of dust and sticky fibres. The high melt viscosity of PP hinders its penetration into the composite reinforcement. To overcome this difficulty, the separated and fibrillated PALF and PP fibres of different fineness were blended (50% by weight) in the carding process to ensure homogeneous distribution of reinforcement and matrix phases within composites. The blended carded sliver was further parallelized through a gill-drawing process, and subsequently, unidirectional composites were fabricated using the compression moulding technique. The used carding process with an optimum number of passages did not reduce the fibre length or deteriorate the mechanical properties of fibres and was found effective in improving the fibre surface roughness, leading to an improved fibre-matrix interface. The carding process also removed the non-cellulosic materials from PALF, resulting in an increase in the cellulose percentage. The fourth carding passage of the longest PALF led to the removal of non-cellulosic materials by 12 wt%. A homogeneous fibre-matrix distribution was achieved in the case of longer PALF and finer PP fibres, leading to the highest tensile strength, tensile modulus, bending strength, bending modulus, and impact strength of 124.60 MPa, 6.24 GPa, 103.27 MPa, 6.16 GPa, and 104.28 kJ/m2 of fabricated composites, respectively. This study is the first to demonstrate the use of carding for the processing of PALF and how PALF length and the carding process influence different properties of fabricated composites. Fibre denier specific carding parameters, such as feeder speed, cylinder speed and doffer speed, have been optimised to modulate the structure of needle-punched nonwoven. Polyester fibres of 3 denier, 4 denier and 6 denier are used to prepare nonwoven fabrics at different carding parameters. Box Behnken three factors three levels factorial design is used to prepare the nonwoven samples. Fibre orientation is measured with the help of Lindsley's and image analysis techniques in terms of indices, like proportion of curved fibre ends, coefficient of relative fibre parallelisation and anisotropy of fibre inclination angle respectively. A non-linear regression technique has been developed to establish a relationship between tortuosity factor and measured values of fibre diameter, proportion of curved fibre ends, coefficient of relative fibre parallelisation, anisotropy of fibre inclination angle and mean flow pore size. An attempt has been made to highlight the significance of the carding parameters (feeder speed, cylinder speed and doffer speed) required for fibre of different deniers for regulating the structure and ultimately the properties of the nonwoven fabric. A three-factor three-level Box-Behnken factorial design has been employed to analyse and optimise the carding parameters. The work focuses on the comprehensive exploration of the functional properties in the light of nonwoven fabric structures. Regression models of nonlinear process are developed to establish the relationship between specific properties of nonwoven fabric and structural indices. The optimised carding parameters specific to fibre denier result in improved filtration performance of the nonwoven fabric having lower values of fabric thickness, mean flow pore size and pressure drop, besides acquiring higher filtration efficiency. Recently, natural silk nonwoven fabrics have attracted attention in biomedical and cosmetic applications because of their excellent biocompatibility, mechanical properties, and easy preparation. Herein, silk nonwoven fabrics were prepared by carding silk filaments to improve their productivity, and the effect of sericin content on the structure and properties of silk nonwoven fabrics was investigated. Owing to the binding effect of sericin in silk, a natural silk nonwoven fabric was successfully prepared through carding, wetting, and hot press treatments. Sericin content affected the structural characteristics and properties of the silk nonwoven fabrics. As the sericin content increased, the silk nonwoven fabrics became more compact with reduced porosity and thickness. Further, with increasing sericin content, the crystallinity and elongation of the silk nonwoven fabrics decreased while the moisture regain and the maximum stress increased. The thermal stability of most silk nonwoven fabrics was not affected by the sericin content. However, silk nonwoven fabrics without sericin had a lower thermal decomposition temperature than other nonwoven fabrics. Regardless of the sericin content, all silk nonwoven fabrics exhibited optimal cell viability and are promising candidates for cosmetic and biomedical applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The design of metallic card clothing, which is one of the most important devices in the textile industry, has always been based on operational experience. With the development of types of fibers and the requirements for the quality of yarns, those principles concluded by engineers seem to be losing their efficiency. Recent research found that airflow played an important role in the card process, which means airflow should be carefully studied. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation greatly helps in the analysis of airflow because the gauge between carding elements is too narrow to put in any measuring device. In the present study, with the help of CFD simulation, the air around different carding clothing with varied tooth depth was analyzed. It was concluded that the carding efficiency improvement in card clothing with lower tooth depth may be related to more concentrated air velocity at the tooth tips. This resulted in more probabilities that fibers would get through the cylinder surface at the teeth tips, so that the fibers could be caught by flat-top needles more efficiently. With this assumption, a new generation of card clothing called "double teeth" containing two teeth in a single section has been invented. The new configuration design of card clothing was then applied in several spinning mills on an industrial scale for experiments. The results showed about a 30% improvement in production at the same quality level as conventional card clothing, which implied the usefulness of the newly applied principles related to airflow. Despite the difficulty in the study of the complex carding process, the new airflow analysis method has shown an optional and worthwhile way of thinking that could make a difference in future research in the textile industry. Introduction to The Problem: Â Since digital reform, business and trade sectors have begun to expand their network in cyberspace. Transactions carried out also no longer refer to ordinary things. The modern era of society indeed prefers a more efficient payment process, namely through a credit card. On the other hand, the advancement of digital technology also provides opportunities for perpetrators of crime in cyberspace. The fraud, which was initially carried out with the objects of written reports, began to move lanes towards data manipulation in the form of carding.Purpose/Objective Study: This paper is intended to analyze and examine carding as cyber fraud in three legal studies: criminal law, business, and commercial law, and transnational criminal law. This study illuminates the intersection between criminal law, business and commercial law, law and technology, and international criminal law in carding cases.Design/Methodology/Approach: The paper is normative legal research using a comparative approach and regulations related to carding and cyber fraud.Findings: The study highlighted that carding as a manifestation of cyber fraud is also a transnational crime, which involves networks or groups across national borders to carry out certain illegal businesses or activities. Included in this case is the data theft on credit cards. This research was taken up to investigate the properties of thermally bonded nonwovens made with a combination of chicken feather fibers and jute fibers. Chicken feathers are poultry waste with little to no effective use as of now and the current practices used for their settlement are not only nature damaging but simply neglect their potential. Chicken feather fibers (CFF) can prove to be a valuable alternative source of protein fibers. In this research, pure and blended nonwoven samples (five samples) using CFF and jute fibers were prepared, where two samples were made by using pure CFF and pure jute fibers each. Then three nonwoven samples were made by using CFF and jute in different blend proportions i.e. 50:50, 30:70 70:30 respectively. Webs were prepared by carding and the thermal bonding (hot calendaring) method was used to convert the loose fibrous mat to a nonwoven structure. Nonwovens made of recycled carbon fibers (rCF) and thermoplastic (TP) fibers have excellent economic and ecological potential. In contrast to new fibers, recycled carbon fibers are significantly cheaper, and the CO2 footprint is mostly compensated by energy savings in the first product life cycle. The next step for this promising material is its industrial serial use. Therefore, we analyzed the process chain from fiber to composite material. Initially, the rCF length at different positions during the carding process was measured. Thereafter, we evaluated the influence of the TP fibers on the processing, fiber shortening, and mechanical properties. Finally, several nonwovens with different TP fibers and fiber volume contents between 15 vol% and 30 vol% were produced, consolidated by hot-pressing, and tested by four-point bending to determine the mechanical values. The fiber length reduction ranged from 20.6% to 28.4%. TP fibers cushioned the rCF against mechanical stress but held rCF fragments back due to their crimp. The resulting bending strength varied from 301 to 405 MPa, and the stiffness ranged from 16.3 to 30.1 GPa. Design recommendations for reduced fiber shortening are derived as well as material mixtures that offer better homogeneity and higher mechanical properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Natural fibers, such as kenaf, hemp, and flax, also known as bast fibers, offer several benefits such as low density, carbon dioxide neutrality, and less dependence on petroleum sources. Their function as reinforcement in polymer composites offers a great potential to replace a segment of the glass fiber-reinforced polymer composites, especially in automotive components. Despite their promising benefits, they cannot meet the structural and durability demands of automobile parts because of their poor mechanical properties compared to glass fibers. The focus of this research work was the improvement of the mechanical property profile of the bast fiber reinforced polypropylene composites by hybridization with natural high-performance basalt fibers and the influence of basalt fibers coating and polymer modification at the mechanical and thermal properties of the composites. The specific tensile strength of the composite with polymer tailored coating was 39% and the flexural strength was 44% higher than the composite with epoxy-based basalt fibers. The mechanical performance was even better when the bast/basalt hybridization was done in maleic anhydride modified polymer. This led to the conclusion that basalt fibers sizing and polymer modification are the deciding factors in defining the optimal mechanical performance of the composites by influencing the fiber-matrix interaction. The composites were analyzed for their mechanical, thermal, and morphological properties. The comparison of bast/basalt hybrid composite with bast/glass fibers hybrid composite showed a 32% higher specific flexural and tensile strength of the basalt hybrid composite, supporting the concept of basalt fibers as a natural alternative of the glass fibers. The technological characteristics of heavy weight per unit carding process were introduced. In prac¬tice ,it was found that the problems such as low carding quality, poor fiber transfer, insufficient carding, fiber scat-tering and poor impurity removal could be solved by reasonable speed, gauge and airflow so as to improve and stabi- lize the carding quality. With increasing limitation of petrochemical resources, there is a growing demand for the replacement of nonrenewable fiber-reinforced polymer composites by renewable polymer composites. Therefore, the aim of this research work was to improve the mechanical properties of bast (plant) fibers reinforced polymer composites without reducing their renewable material content. To achieve this goal, basalt fibers (natural mineral fibers) were used to partially substitute the amount of bast fibers in the polymer composites. The applied fibers were processed to semi-finished materials by carding and needle punching and processed further by afterwards press-molding. An intense optimization of the carding process led to the production of homogeneous fabrics based on various types of fibers (bast, basalt and PP). The homogeneity of the fabrics was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis of the composites. Several composites based on polypropylene and acrylate thermoset resin, reinforced with merely bast fibers, were prepared as reference. In the next steps, the bast fiber content of the reference compositions was partially replaced by basalt fibers. The compression-molded samples were tested for their flexural, tensile, and impact energy properties. The very positive finding was that the addition of basalt fibers not just improved significantly the strength and stiffness of the composites, but simultaneously increased the properties of the composites regarding energy absorption, a key requirement in the automotive industry. The fracture surface analysis confirmed a better fiber matrix adhesion in thermoset composites compared to thermoplastic composites. This article reports the results of investigations carried out to produce yarns consisting of staple carbon fiber (CF) obtained from process waste for the manufacturing of composites suitable especially for thermoset applications. For this purpose, a comparative analysis is done on processability between 100% staple CF and 60 weight% staple CF mixed with 40 weight% PVA fibers in carding, drawing and spinning process. The hybrid yarns are produced by varying twist level. The PVA fibers of the hybrid yarn are then dissolved using hot water treatment. The mechanical properties of yarns consisting of 100% staple CF and hybrid yarns consisting of staple CF and PVA before and after hot water treatment are investigated. Furthermore, test specimen is also prepared by impregnating 100% staple CF yarn and the hybrid yarns (after the dissolving of PVA) with epoxy resin. The results of the tensile test of the yarns in consolidated state reveals that the hybrid yarn produced with 80 T/m after hot water treatment exhibits approximately 75% of the tensile strength of virgin filament tow, and it is expected that the hybrid yarns can be applied for the manufacturing of thermoset based composites for load bearing structures.

Background: This study aimed to assess the effect of cotton dust on respiratory symptoms and spirometric functions test among cotton textile workers. Patients and Methods: This prospective study was conducted at El-Mahalla Chest Hospital on 115 subjects (100 workers exposed to cotton dust from Misr Company for Spinning and Weaving and 15 healthy subject not exposed to cotton dust). All subjects, were subjected to a standardized questionnaire which was patterned according to American Thoracic Society questionnaire and spirometric functions test [Forced expiratory in the first second (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC), FEV1/FVC ratio, peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR)% and maximum midexpiratory flow (MMEF) %]. Results: There was a highly significant statistical difference on comparing presence of respiratory symptoms between control group and cotton exposed groups. There was significant statistical difference on comparing the presence of respiratory symptoms between control group and weaving, spinning, opening of cotton bales and carding groups. Respiratory symptom was the highest prevalent in spinning and weaving workers. Cough, expectoration and chest tightness were the highest prevalent symptoms in cotton exposed groups. Cough, expectoration were the highest prevalent in spinning and weaving workers. There was significant statistical difference on comparing FEVI%, FVC%, FVC/FEV1% and PEFR % between control group and cotton exposed groups. There was no significant statistical difference on comparing MMEF% between control group and cotton exposed groups. There was positive correlation between presence of respiratory symptoms and duration of exposure to cotton dust, the longer the duration of exposure to cotton dust the higher the presence of respiratory symptoms. There was no correlation between period of exposure to cotton dust and spirometric functions. Conclusion: Cotton workers are at risk for developing respiratory symptoms. Respiratory symptoms was highest prevalent in worker works at spinning and weaving. Spirometric functions were less in cotton exposed workers as compared to control.

Carding is the most vital process in spinning, which infl uences the sliver quality and the resulting yarn characteristics. The eff ect of carding on single fibre and bundle fibre properties were studied by employing advanced fibre information system (AFIS) and diff erences in properties are reported. For a good quality yarn, the process parameters and setting in the carding are needed to be selected properly. The paper presents the results due to the effect of points per square inch (PPSI) in stationary flats of licker-in side (SFL). The effect of setting between the flats and cylinder was also studied. The sample was prepared using LMW spinning line using LC-333 carding machine. After regulatory changing the PPSI in SFL, the neps in the carded sliver were reduced. The experimentation led to the reductions in the total imperfection in yarn.

The aim of the present study was to perform a comparative evaluation of technological traits of industrial batches of Bulgarian and imported semifine wool. The study was carried out in an industrial setting in cooperation with Kolhida Ltd, Sliven. A total of 18 batches originating from Bulgaria (n=10), Serbia (n=6) and the Netherlands (n=2) among which 4 batches of greasy wool, 7 batches of clean wool and 7 batches of wool sliver were studied. The primary processing of wool batches comprising classification, washing and carding was performed by textile enterprise's standard technology. After the classification, the relative shares of wool types from the total amount of greasy wool in a batch were determined. The washing yield of classified greasy medium wool was calculated. The following laboratory analyses of clean wool were carried out: fibre diameter (µm), mean weighted length (mm), short fibre percentage (%), fatness (%), mineral matter content (dustiness %), vegetable matter content (%) and moisture (%). For slivers, sliver yield (%), fibre diameter (measured with OFDI), mean weighted length (mm), length ? (mm), short fibre percentage (%) and moisture (%) were determined. In Bulgarian and Serbian batches, high-grade wool types predominated with highest share of the merino worsted wool (70.54% and 63.70%; 60.66% and 46.64%, respectively). The highest industrial washing yield was that of Dutch wool - 63.89%. Yields of Serbian and Bulgarian batches were similar (53.73%-56.39% and 53.20%-55.89%, respectively). The highest mean weighted length of fibres was determined for Dutch wool - 74.87 mm. Serbian and Bulgarian batches were comparable with respect to this trait: 63.95-65.71 mm and 62.92-65.88 mm respectively. The vegetable matter in studied wool batches was higher than requirements of the standard - from 1.29% t? 2.24% vs the reference of 1.2%. The highest vegetable matter content was found in the wool from two Bulgarian batches (1.65% and 2.24%), one Serbian (1.82%), and the Dutch batch (1.92%). Sliver yield varied from 81.31% t? 86.91% in studied wool slivers. The highest values of this trait were found out in 3 Bulgarian wool slivers (86.91%; 85.79% and 84.48%) and the Dutch sliver (84.13%). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The characteristics and existing problems of JWF1203 carding machine are introduced. The problems such as insufficient carding,severe fiber damage,less noil for machine-harvest cotton,incomplete impurity removal,overmuch noil and high cost for differential fiber,high speed doffer catching for polyester fiber and low wear resistance of the heel and toe of cover plate were analyzed. The choice of a comfortable pillow is essential for good sleep. The filling material for pillows should be bulky, resilient and comfortable. For reasons of price, availability and resilience, polyester is the most commonly used filling material. Its drawbacks, however, lie in poor moisture management and a lack of biodegradability. This is the first study of the physical and microclimate properties of pillows with carded filling containing lyocell fiber. Pillow samples were manufactured on an industrial production line. Their carded fillings were rolled and comprised either 30% or 50% lyocell, blended with polyester (virgin and recycled), high elastic triexta and biodegradable polylactide fibers. In simulated sleeping conditions, using a thermal sweating manikin, it was proven that pillows with fillings made of 50% lyocell blended with polyester demonstrated an enhanced microclimate through much better moisture management than pillows with fillings made from pure polyester. It was also found, under use and care conditions, that lyocell affected the sensorial properties of pillows. Pillow form stability and height regain correlated with lyocell's linear density. A higher lyocell content (50%) improved the form-keeping characteristics of pillows after repeated washing and drying. The type of lyocell used had only a minor effect on the compression resilience of the filling and perception of pillow firmness. The evaluators perceived higher pillows as firmer. The developed new methods for the evaluation of pillow quality and the results of this study can be of practical relevance in the bedding industry, where the reduction of non-biodegradable raw material is strategically important.
