Non‐immune hydrops fetalis represents the end‐stage status of a variety of diseases, including metastatic tumors. We report a case of non‐immune hydrops fetalis associated with multiple disseminated echogenic nodular lesions detected by ultrasound and confirmed by magnetic resonance. Cordocentesis demonstrated anemia and thrombopenia. Differential diagnosis included histiocytosis X, acute leukemia or metastatic disease. A stillbirth was diagnosed at week 25 + 6. The autopsy revealed hydrops fetalis, a right adrenal gland mass, multiple disseminated nodules histologically composed of small round blue cells positive for synaptophysin, and placental involvement, concordant findings with congenital undifferentiated neuroblastoma Stage M. No chromosomal abnormalities were associated, nor amplification abnormalities in MYCN and ALK genes. Background: Osteosarcoma of the jaws is a rare primary malignant tumor of bone. The clinical, radiological and histopathological features of a case associated with cemento-osseous dysplasia is presented. Case Report: A 57-year-old mixed-race female presented with a large, progressive, swelling of the right mandible. Radiographic examination revealed two associated lesions. Partially defined irregular radiopacities were noted in the left mandible, extending from the premolar to the molar region. The lesion had a cotton-wool appearance and resembled a fibro-osseous lesion; i.e. cemento-osseous dysplasia. A second large, expansive and irregular, radiopaque lesion was noted on the right angle of the mandible, extending beyond the inferior cortex of the mandible. The internal structure was heterogeneous and resembled irregular bone formation. The classic "sunburst" appearance of radiating bony spicules can be seen in the posterior–anterior view and the CBCT 3D reconstruction, indicating the outgrowth of the tumor matrix. Histopathological exam confirmed a final diagnosis of osteosarcoma closely associated with cemento-osseous dysplasia. The patient underwent a fludeoxyglucose-18 (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) scan which indicated metastasis in the left lung and increased uptake in the right mandible. Chemotherapy was initially administered with a plan to resect the tumor, however, the patient demised as a result of medical complications. Conclusion: The question in the literature remains whether these two entities are coincidentally found or arise from each other. Prostate cancer treatment can lead to complications, even with advancements in surgery, radiotherapy, focal therapy, hormone therapy, and immunotherapy. The risk of complications is higher for patients diagnosed at later stages, but early diagnosis and treatment can minimize these risks. One study found that a patient's body mass index (BMI) can impact the complications and readmission rate of robotic radical prostatectomy. Another study discussed the use of the adjustable trans-obturator male system (ATOMS) as an alternative to the artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) for post-prostatectomy stress urinary incontinence, highlighting its effectiveness and safety. Complications and long-term data on device survival after ATOMS implantation were also discussed. Additionally, the article addressed complications related to combined treatments, such as radical prostatectomy and pelvic radiotherapy, as well as urethral stricture and devastated bladder neck. The management of these complications and potential treatment options were explored. Immune-mediated diarrhea represents a serious complication of checkpoint inhibitor therapy, especially following ipilimumab-based treatment. Efficient diagnosis and control of diarrhea remains an ongoing challenge. We developed an accelerated management paradigm for patients with ipilimumab-induced diarrhea. Patients who developed significant diarrhea (>five loose stools/day) were presumed to be developing immune colitis. Therapy was interrupted and patients were treated with a methylprednisolone dose pack. If diarrhea was not completely resolved, high-dose steroids and infliximab were promptly added. Only non-responding patients underwent further evaluation for infection or other causes of diarrhea. A total of 242 patients were treated with ipilimumab-based regimens. Forty-six developed significant diarrhea (19%) and thirty-four (74.4%) had a rapid resolution of diarrhea following glucocorticosteroid and infliximab treatment. The median time to resolution of diarrhea was only 8.5 ± 16.4 days. Accelerated treatment for presumed immune-mediated diarrhea resulted in the rapid control of symptoms in the majority of patients. There were no intestinal complications or deaths. Immunosuppressive therapy for diarrhea did not appear to decrease the remission rate or survival. After the control of diarrhea, most patients were able to continue their planned immunotherapy. To assess the health state utilities of ovarian cancer patients, clinicians, and non-cancer controls regarding surgical complications in ovarian cancer. Utilities for 14 surgical complications were assessed from patients with recently diagnosed or recurrent ovarian cancer, clinicians, and non-cancer controls using the visual analog scale (VAS) and time trade-off (TTO) methods. Health state utilities were converted to a 0-to-1 scale, where 0 represents the least favorable outcome and 1 represents the most favorable outcome. Fifty patients, 50 clinicians, and 50 controls participated. Median VAS scores were lower than TTO scores across all groups (p < 0.01). Patients viewed 'bleeding requiring transfusion' most favorably (VAS utility 0.75), followed in order by less favorable utility scores for hernia, thromboembolism, pleural effusion, abscess, ileus/bowel obstruction, wound infection, bowel obstruction requiring surgery, anastomotic leak requiring drain, temporary ostomy, anastomotic leak requiring surgery, genito-urinary fistula, permanent ostomy, and genito-intestinal fistula (VAS utility 0.2). Overall, clinicians perceived complications more favorably than patients by VAS (overall utility score 0.49 vs 0.43, p < 0.01), but not by the TTO. There were no differences in overall utility scores between patients and controls. Patients who had not experienced certain surgical complications had less favorable scores than patients who did (utility score for ostomy = 0.2 for patients without ostomy vs. 0.7 for patients with ostomy, p = 0.02). This study establishes health state utilities for surgical complications associated with ovarian cancer. Radiation therapy (RT) to the head and neck (H&N) region is critical in the management of various pediatric malignancies; however, it may result in late toxicity. This comprehensive review from the Pediatric Normal Tissue Effects in the Clinic (PENTEC) initiative focused on salivary dysfunction and dental abnormalities in survivors who received RT to the H&N region as children. This systematic review was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) method. Of the 2,164 articles identified through a literature search, 40 were included in a qualitative synthesis and 3 were included in a quantitative synthesis. The dose-toxicity data regarding salivary function demonstrate that a mean parotid dose of 35 to 40 Gy is associated with a risk of acute and chronic grade ≥2 xerostomia of approximately 32% and 13% to 32%, respectively, in patients treated with chemo-radiation therapy. This risk increases with parotid dose; however, rates of xerostomia after lower dose exposure have not been reported. Dental developmental abnormalities are common after RT to the oral cavity. Risk factors include higher radiation dose to the developing teeth and younger age at RT. This PENTEC task force considers adoption of salivary gland dose constraints from the adult experience to be a reasonable strategy until more data specific to children become available; thus, we recommend limiting the parotid mean dose to ≤26 Gy. The minimum toxic dose for dental developmental abnormalities is unknown, suggesting that the dose to the teeth should be kept as low as possible particularly in younger patients, with special effort to keep doses <20 Gy in patients <4 years old. Background: Gross Hematuria is a relevant cause of admission to the emergency department in the general population and particularly in older adults (≥80 years). This specific urological symptom is often underestimated and usually associated with benign conditions such as urinary infections or poor hydration. Nevertheless, hematuria could lead to severe acute complications or be the first symptom of urological cancers. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed clinical data from 1169 patients aged ≥80 years consecutively admitted to the emergency department for hematuria. The primary endpoint of the study was to identify risk factors for major complications, and the secondary endpoint was to analyze risk factors for urological cancer diagnosis. The median age was 85 years (IQR 82–88 years), and 908 (77%) were males. Among them, 449 (38.4%) had a past medical history of urological neoplasm (kidney, ureter, bladder, prostate, or urethral cancer). Results: Overall, 87 patients (7.4%) had major complications (patient death, septic shock, and admission to the intensive care unit). Worse vital signs at admission, fever, and confusion (p < 0.001, OR 18.0 IC 95% [5.5–58.7]; p = 0.015, OR 2.0 IC 95% [1.1–3.5]; p = <0.001, OR 4.2 IC 95% [1.9–3.5], respectively), as well as lower hemoglobin values and higher Charlson comorbidity index (p < 0.001, OR 0.8 IC 95% [0.7–0.9]), p = 0.002, OR = 1.2 [1.1–1.3]) were independent predictive factors for major complications. The multivariate analysis identified as risk factors for diagnosis of urological cancer older age, male sex and higher comorbidity (OR 1.05 IC95% [1–1.09]; OR 2.19 IC95% [1.42–3.39] and OR 1.11 IC95% [1.2–1.2], respectively); interestingly the presence of indwelling vesical catheter (IVC) (OR 0.44 IC95% [0.24–0.82]) resulted as an independent factor for absence of urological cancers. Conclusions: Hematuria is a frequent symptom in older adults admitted to the emergency department. While this is often associated with benign conditions, there are some risk factors for major complications and for urological cancer that must be taken into account to identify the patients who need further evaluation or prompt hospital admission. Therapeutic management of patients with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis (LC) may require treatment of concomitant hydrocephalus (HC) in addition to intrathecal chemotherapy (ITC). Ventriculoperitoneal shunts (VPS) equipped with a valve for manual deactivation of shunt function and a concomitant reservoir for application of ITC pose an elegant solution to both problems. The present study evaluates indication, feasibility, and safety of such a modified shunt/reservoir design (mS/R). All patients with LC aged ≥ 18 years who had undergone mS/R implantation between 2013 and 2020 at the authors' institution were further analyzed. ITC was indicated following the recommendation of the neuro-oncological tumor board and performed according to a standardized protocol. Sixteen patients with LC underwent mS/R implantation for subsequent ITC and concomitant treatment of HC. Regarding HC-related clinical symptoms, 69% of patients preoperatively exhibited lethargy, 38% cognitive impairment, and 38% (additional) visual disturbances. Postoperatively, 86% of patients achieved subjective improvement of HC-related symptoms. Overall, postoperative complications occurred in three patients (19%). No patient encountered cancer treatment-related complications. The present study describes a combination procedure consisting of a standard VPS-system and a standard reservoir for patients suffering from LC and HC. PURPOSE: Preoperative prediction of postoperative complications (PCs) in inpatients with cancer is challenging. We developed an explainable machine learning (ML) model to predict PCs in a heterogenous population of inpatients with cancer undergoing same-hospitalization major operations. METHODS: Consecutive inpatients who underwent same-hospitalization operations from December 2017 to June 2021 at a single institution were retrospectively reviewed. The ML model was developed and tested using electronic health record (EHR) data to predict 30-day PCs for patients with Clavien-Dindo grade 3 or higher (CD 3+) per the CD classification system. Model performance was assessed using area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC), area under the precision recall curve (AUPRC), and calibration plots. Model explanation was performed using the Shapley additive explanations (SHAP) method at cohort and individual operation levels. RESULTS: A total of 988 operations in 827 inpatients were included. The ML model was trained using 788 operations and tested using a holdout set of 200 operations. The CD 3+ complication rates were 28.6% and 27.5% in the training and holdout test sets, respectively. Training and holdout test sets' model performance in predicting CD 3+ complications yielded an AUROC of 0.77 and 0.73 and an AUPRC of 0.56 and 0.52, respectively. Calibration plots demonstrated good reliability. The SHAP method identified features and the contributions of the features to the risk of PCs. CONCLUSION: We trained and tested an explainable ML model to predict the risk of developing PCs in patients with cancer. Using patient-specific EHR data, the ML model accurately discriminated the risk of developing CD 3+ complications and displayed top features at the individual operation and cohort level. Leptomeningeal disease (LMD) is a serious cancer complication associated with poor prognosis. Approximately 5%–25% of patients with melanoma develop LMD. Currently, no standard treatment protocol exists and very few cases have been reported. Despite ongoing advances in new therapies, treatment options for LMD remain limited. Herein, we report a case of intrathecal pembrolizumab administration in a patient with melanoma and LMD. Intrathecal pembrolizumab administration was feasible and safe at the doses tested. Drawing from this case, along with our expertise and the existing evidence on systemic immunotherapy, we propose that an immunotherapy approach involving intrathecal administration for patients with LMD from melanoma warrants additional exploration in clinical trials. Background: Tracheobronchial injuries generally occur due to iatrogenic or traumatic causes. Although bronchial rupture due to teratoma and germ cell tumors has been reported in the literature, no cases related to lung cancer have been determined. Our case is presented because of the refusal to be examined for the mass in the lung and the detection of bronchial rupture afterward when he presented with massive hemoptysis. Case presentation: A 65-year-old male patient was admitted to the emergency department with the complaint of massive hemoptysis. Six months ago, bronchoscopy was recommended due to the 8 × 7 cm cavitary lesion obliterating the bronchus in the anterior upper lobe of the right lung on chest computed tomography, but the patient refused. The sputum sample, requested 3 times, was negative for acid-resistant bacteria, and no growth was detected in the mycobacterial culture. In the new pulmonary CT angiography, a progressive cavitary lesion invading the right main bronchus, carina, and vena cava superior was observed. Following tranexamic acid treatment and bronchial artery embolization, hemoptysis significantly decreased in the follow-up. In the flexible bronchoscopy performed for diagnostic purposes, the carina was pushed to the left and invaded, and there was damage to the right main bronchus. A biopsy was not performed due to the risk of bleeding, and lavage was performed. Lavage was negative for ARB, there was no growth in the mycobacteria culture, and cytology did not reveal malignant cells. The patient, diagnosed with right main bronchial rupture, was considered inoperable and died 1 month later due to respiratory failure. Conclusions: Examinations should be initiated as soon as malignancy is suspected. When diagnosis and treatment are delayed, complications that would be challenging to intervene may develop. The efficacy of taxane-containing regimens has been demonstrated for various cancers, particularly ovarian, endometrial, breast, lung, and prostate cancers. However, extensive taxane-induced toxicities limit their use. Prediction and management of many toxic complications in cancer patients have evolved significantly over the last decade. Peripheral neuropathy is the most typical non-hematological taxane-related complication, and it has a multifactorial pathogenesis. It is often dose-dependent and progressive during therapy and sometimes even after treatment. Unfortunately, the prediction of these common adverse events remains unclear. In the past few years, several polymorphisms of candidate genes with a possible role in the development of this consequence were studied. This minireview aims to highlight the critical yet underappreciated roles of genetic predictors that may increase susceptibility to taxane-induced peripheral neuropathy in cancer patients (Ref. 40). We report the visual and clinical outcomes of a middle-aged woman who presented with exudative retinal detachment (ERD) secondary to a vasoproliferative tumor (VPT) in an eye with sarcoidosis-associated intermediate uveitis. A 55-year-old woman previously diagnosed with sarcoidosis presented with decreased vision in the left eye (LE). Visual acuity in the LE was counting fingers. She had active vitritis, and a peripheral retinal vascular mass was noted in the superotemporal periphery. The mass was associated with ERD involving the posterior pole. The patient was managed with systemic and intravitreal steroids, and cyclosporine was subsequently added as a steroid-sparing agent. Because of recurrence of ERD, the patient underwent pars plana vitrectomy, and cryotherapy and laser photocoagulation were applied to the VPT. Two months postoperatively, visual acuity in the LE improved to 6/10. There was marked regression of the VPT and total resolution of the ERD. In conclusion, we report a favorable visual and clinical outcome in a patient with VPT-associated ERD who responded to a combination of medical therapy and surgical intervention. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are a small subset of tumor cells, efficient in self‐renewal within the tumor and also play a vital role in cancer resistance and metastasis. Recent cancer research has focused on exosomes, a tiny subpopulation of extracellular vesicles (EVs), known for their role in intercellular communication, and significantly contributing to tumor development and metastasis (Tumor derived exosomes‐TEXs). These exosomes complicate cancer treatment by promoting tumor and CSC formation and developing drug and therapeutic resistance. This article explores how tumor‐derived exosomes impact CSC survival, proliferation, and resistance to therapies, leading to tumor recurrence. In a tumor microenvironment (TME), exosomes facilitate tumor growth and metastasis. Targeting exosomes could disrupt CSC communication and improve cancer treatment efficacy. Current studies highlight the role of CSCs exosomes in cancer progression and therapeutic resistance. Cancer-related fatigue (CRF) is one of the most prevalent and detrimental complications of cancer. Emerging evidence suggests that obesity and insulin resistance are associated with CRF occurrence and severity in cancer patients and survivors. In this narrative review, we analyzed recent studies including both preclinical and clinical research on the relationship between obesity and/or insulin resistance and CRF. We also describe potential mechanisms for these relationships, though with the caveat that because the mechanisms underlying CRF are incompletely understood, the mechanisms mediating the association between obesity/ insulin resistance and CRF are similarly incompletely delineated. The data suggest that, in addition to their effects to worsen CRF by directly promoting tumor growth and metastasis, obesity and insulin resistance may also contribute to CRF by inducing chronic inflammation, neuroendocrinological disturbance, and metabolic alterations. Furthermore, studies suggest that patients with obesity and insulin resistance experience more cancer-induced pain and are at more risk of emotional and behavioral disruptions correlated with CRF. However, other studies implied a potentially paradoxical impact of obesity and insulin resistance to reduce CRF symptoms. Despite the need for further investigation utilizing interventions to directly elucidate the mechanisms of cancer-related fatigue, current evidence demonstrates a correlation between obesity and/or insulin resistance and CRF, and suggests potential therapeutics for CRF by targeting obesity and/or obesity-related mediators. Background: Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) is the foundational treatment for metastatic prostate cancer (PCa). Androgen receptor (AR) axis-targeted therapies are a new standard of care for advanced PCa. Although these agents have significantly improved patient survival, the suppression of testosterone is associated with an increased risk of cardiometabolic syndrome. This highlights the urgency of multidisciplinary efforts to address the cardiometabolic risk of anticancer treatment in men with PCa. Methods: Two professional organizations invited five urologists, five clinical oncologists, and two cardiologists to form a consensus panel. They reviewed the relevant literature obtained by searching PubMed for the publication period from April 2013 to April 2023, to address three discussion areas: (i) baseline assessment and screening for risk factors in PCa patients before the initiation of ADT and AR axis-targeted therapies; (ii) follow-up and management of cardiometabolic complications; and (iii) selection of ADT agents among highrisk patients. The panel convened four meetings to discuss and draft consensus statements using a modified Delphi method. Each drafted statement was anonymously voted on by every panelist. Results: The panel reached a consensus on 18 statements based on recent evidence and expert insights. Conclusion: These consensus statements serve as a practical recommendation for clinicians in Hong Kong, and possibly the Asia-Pacific region, in the management of cardiometabolic toxicities of ADT or AR axis-targeted therapies in men with PCa. Over the past decade, the improvement in cancer diagnostics and therapeutics has extended the overall survival of patients diagnosed with cancer including brain cancer. However, despite these unprecedented medical successes, patients continue to experience numerous neurologic complications after treatment that interfere with their independence, functionality, and overall quality of life. These include, among others, cognitive impairment, endocrinopathies, peripheral and cranial neuropathies, and vasculopathy. This article describes the long-term neurologic complications cancer survivors commonly experience to increase awareness of these complications and discuss treatments when available. Further research is necessary to understanding of mechanisms of neurologic injury and advance diagnosis and treatment. Effective patient education, monitoring, and managing neurologic issues after cancer treatment may improve independence, functionality, and quality of life during survivorship. • Immune checkpoints (IC) play pivotal roles in antimicrobial immunity. • IC inhibitors (ICI) are widely used as anticancer therapy. • Patients on ICI with cancer may experience less severe COVID-19. • Propensity-score matching was applied to the OnCovid registry (NCT04393974). • Previous ICI exposure might improve some COVID-19-related outcomes. To date, studies have not provided definitive answers regarding whether previous immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) treatment alters outcomes for cancer patients with COVID-19. The OnCovid registry (NCT04393974) was searched from February 27, 2020, to January 31, 2022, for patients who received systemic anti-cancer therapy in the 4 weeks before laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis. Propensity-score matching using country, vaccination status, primary tumor type, sex, age, comorbidity burden, tumor stage, and remission status investigated differences in predefined clinical outcomes comparing those who had or had not received ICIs. Of 3523 patients screened, 137 ICI-only and 1378 non-ICI met inclusion criteria. Before matching, ICI patients were older, male, enrolled at centers in Italy, and had histories of smoking, thoracic cancers, advanced cancer stages, and active malignancies (P ≤0.02). After matching, there were 120 ICI and 322 non-ICI patients. ICI patients had no differences (odds ratio: 95% CI) in presenting COVID-19 symptoms (0.69: 0.37-1.28), receipt of COVID-specific therapy (0.88: 0.54-1.41), 14-day (0.95: 0.56-1.61), or 28-day (0.79: 0.48-1.29) mortalities. However, ICI patients required less COVID-19-related hospitalization (0.37: 0.21-0.67) and oxygen therapy (0.51: 0.31-0.83) and developed fewer complications (0.57: 0.36-0.92). Introduction: Malignant bowel obstruction is a distressing complication of cancer, causing pain, nausea and vomiting, and often has a poor prognosis. Severe and rapidly developing symptoms, a lack of robust clinical guidelines and the need for multidisciplinary input make treatment decision-making challenging. Sharing decision-making with people with malignant bowel obstruction and their caregivers can be difficult, and inconsistent communication creates serious deficiencies in care by amplifying patients' distress and uncertainty. Little attention has been paid to the implicit influences on this process–for example, the role of discipline-related norms and the beliefs of decision-makers. This study will explore how these processes work and develop interventions to improve shared decision-making. Methods and analysis: Exploring Pathways to Optimise Care (EPOC) is a three-phase study set within a critical realist framework: (i) realist review, to develop explanatory theory describing collaborative decision-making in the management of malignant bowel obstruction; (ii) an in-depth interview study using modified grounded theory to explore the active ingredients of this collaboration in practice settings; and (iii) the presentation to stakeholders (practitioners, patients and caregivers) of integrated results from Phase I (theory developed from the literature) and Phase II (theory developed from current practice) as a basis for intervention mapping. We aim to produce recommendations to address the challenges, and to develop a set of tools to (i) aid interaction around shared decision-making and (ii) aid interprofessional interaction around the management of this condition. One of the most exhausting and common complications of cancer and its treatments is cancer-related fatigue. According to the results reported from various studies, non-pharmacological interventions are preferable to pharmaceutical treatments. The purpose of the present study was to investigate nonpharmacological approaches effective on cancer-related fatigue. Based on the results of various studies, there is much evidence of the positive effect of exercise and acupuncture on reducing cancerrelated fatigue during and after treatments. Existing studies on psycho-social support, sleep modification, nutrition, and complementary and alternative medicine methods, such as massage and touch, yoga, relaxation and meditation, and herbal medicines, suggest that these methods can reduce or eliminate related fatigue. In general, it seems that all the methods discussed in this study are noninvasive, low-risk, and relatively cheap methods that can be used alongside common treatments or even replace pharmaceutical methods. SpaceOAR hydrogel, a novel biodegradable spacer, is increasingly used in managing prostate cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy to minimize rectal radiation dose and associated complications. However, its use has raised new concerns regarding its potential complications and impact on subsequent imaging interpretation. This article provides a pictorial review of the imaging complications of using SpaceOAR hydrogel in prostate cancer patients. We present multiple examples demonstrating the types of complications that can occur, potential underlying mechanisms, and their impact on patient outcomes and imaging interpretation. Immune checkpoint inhibitors, such as anti-PD-1 and anti-CTLA-4 inhibitors, have become the standard of care for many cancer types. However, they induce immune-related adverse events (irAEs), including neurotoxicity and hypophysitis. The incidence and outcomes of neurotoxicity and hypophysitis in patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors are not well established. We conducted a retrospective study of 812 patients with solid cancers who received immune checkpoint inhibitors at the University General Hospital of Ioannina between January 2018 and January 2023. We assessed demographic and clinical data, including the severity of symptoms, treatment regimen, other irAEs, resolution type and time, and death. Two patients experienced neurotoxicity and two hypophysitis. All four patients required inpatient administration and received corticosteroids or/and hormone replacement. Three patients responded to the initial therapy, experiencing full recovery, while one patient was corticosteroid-resistant, and immunoglobin G was administered. Two patients never received immunotherapy after their toxicity due to the severity of symptoms; one patient continued monotherapy with nivolumab, changing from combination therapy with ipilimumab–nivolumab, while the fourth patient continued his initial treatment with nivolumab. Our study suggests that the incidence of neurotoxicity and hypophysitis in patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors is low, but careful monitoring and prompt treatment with corticosteroids are necessary for effective management. Introduction: Cancer treatments can damage healthy tissues and organs, and leave harmful impacts on cancer survivors, especially on children and adolescents. The oral effects of cancer treatment can occur during or soon after treatment, or months–even years–later. Cancer treatments can also affect the child, psychologically and socially by hindering their speech, eating, sleeping, and social interactions. These effects can have profound impacts on children's quality of life. Building on a previous review published in 2012, this scoping review aims to identify and map the current evidence base underpinning the oral health-related impacts of cancer treatment on the quality of life of children with cancer. Methodology and methods: Our methodology is guided by Arksey and O'Malley's methodological framework for scoping reviews, Levac's additions to the framework, and follows the Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewer's Manual. Five electronic databases and grey literature will be systematically searched using a predefined search strategy. Two reviewers will independently screen the retrieved articles using Rayyan software and chart data from included articles. One of the team's senior research members will act as a third reviewer and make the final decision on disputed documents. We will include literature with a focus on oral health-related quality of life of children undergoing cancer treatments. Since stroke is often associated with cancer, acute stroke patients with cancer undergoing endovascular therapy (EVT) are not uncommon. Reportedly, the proportion of such cases is approximately 6%-7% of all stroke EVT cases. Ischemic stroke in patients with active cancer (cancer-associated stroke) includes not only strokes caused by cancer-related hypercoagulability but also coincident strokes due to common etiologies, strokes associated with tumor emboli, direct tumor invasion of blood vessels, and strokes associated with cancer therapy. Stroke caused by cancer-related hypercoagulability itself encompasses various entities, including paradoxical embolism, stroke due to nonbacterial thrombotic endocarditis, and in situ arterial occlusion due to disseminated intravascular coagulation or thrombotic microangiopathy. Thus, diverse mechanisms contribute to cancer-associated stroke, emphasizing the need to consider individualized treatment strategies for acute cases involving large vessel occlusion. Observational studies have shown that EVT for cancer-associated stroke results in poorer clinical outcomes, but with comparable rates of successful reperfusion and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage when compared with stroke patients without cancer. This suggests that denying patients EVT solely on the basis of comorbid active cancer is inappropriate, and decision-making should be shared with the patients and their families, preferably through a multidisciplinary team approach. Thrombi retrieved from patients with stroke caused by cancer-related hypercoagulability have unique characteristics, being predominantly platelet rich and difficult to retrieve. Preprocedural imaging and serum biomarkers, including the hyperdense vessel sign on non-contrast CT, susceptibility vessel sign on T2* or susceptibility-weighted MRI, three-territory sign on MRI, and D-dimer levels, are valuable in evaluating the stroke subtype and thrombus features. Thrombectomy techniques, such as contact aspiration and stent retriever monotherapy, have shown varying degrees of effectiveness for stroke caused by cancer-related hypercoagulability, warranting further study. After reperfusion therapy, appropriate treatment for the prevention of stroke recurrence should be initiated, considering the specific stroke subtypes. In conclusion, cancerassociated stroke encompasses diverse subtypes, and thrombi associated with stroke caused by cancer-related hypercoagulability present various challenges for thrombectomy. Individualized treatment approaches based on underlying mechanisms are essential for improving outcomes in acute stroke patients with active cancer. Optimization of preprocedural diagnosis, EVT techniques, and secondary prevention of stroke caused by cancer-related hypercoagulability will lead to better management of these patients and enhance their quality of life. Background: Postoperative complications in patients of rectal cancer pose challenges to postoperative recovery. Accurately predicting these complications is crucial for developing effective treatment plans for patients. Methods: In this retrospective study, 493 patients with rectal cancer who underwent radical resection between January 2020 and December 2021 were examined. We evaluated logistic regression, support vector machines, regression trees, and random forests to predict the incidence of postoperative complications in patients and evaluate the performance of the model. The results will be analyzed to make recommendations for reducing complications. Results: Among the four machine learning models, random forest demonstrated the highest results. The performance of this model was showed with an AUC of 0.880 (95% CI 0.807–0.949), an accuracy of 88.0% (95% CI 0.815–0.929), a sensitivity of 96.6%, and a specificity of 45.8%. Notably, factors such as inflammation related prognostic index, prognostic nutritional index, tumor location, and T stage were found to significantly increase the probability of postoperative complications. Objectives: To describe the prostate cancer (PCa) detection rate, including clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa), in a large cohort of patients who underwent transperineal ultrasonography‐guided systematic prostate biopsy (TPB‐US) using a probe‐mounted transperineal access system, with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) cognitive fusion in case of a Prostate Imaging–Reporting and Data System grade 3–5 lesion, under local anaesthesia in an outpatient setting. Additionally, to compare the incidence of procedure‐related complications with a cohort of patients undergoing transrectal ultrasonography‐guided (TRB‐US) and transrectal MRI‐guided biopsies (TRB‐MRI). Patients and Methods: This was an observational cohort study in men who underwent TPB‐US prostate biopsy in a large teaching hospital. For each participant, prostate‐specific antigen level, clinical tumour stage, prostate volume, MRI parameters, number of (targeted) prostate biopsies, biopsy International Society of Uropathology (ISUP) grade and procedure‐related complications were assessed. csPCa was defined as ISUP grade ≥2. Antibiotic prophylaxis was only given in those with an increased risk of urinary tract infection. Results: A total of 1288 TPB‐US procedures were evaluated. The overall detection rate for PCa in biopsy‐naive patients was 73%, and for csPCa it was 63%. The incidence of hospitalization was 1% in TPB‐US (13/1288), compared to 4% in TRB‐US (8/214) and 3% in TRB‐MRI (7/219; P = 0.002). Conclusions: Contemporary combined systematic and target TPB‐US with MRI cognitive fusion is easy to perform in an outpatient setting, with a high detection rate of csPCa and a low incidence of procedure‐related complications. Failure-to-rescue, defined as mortality following a perioperative complication, is a perioperative quality indicator studied in various surgeries, but not in vulvar cancer surgery. The objective of this study was to assess failure-to-rescue in patients undergoing surgical therapy for vulvar cancer. This cross-section study queried the National Inpatient Sample. The study population was 31,077 patients who had surgical therapy for vulvar cancer from 1/2001–9/2015. The main outcomes were (i) perioperative morbidity (29 indicators) and (ii) mortality following a perioperative complication during the index admission for vulvar surgery (failure-to-rescue), assessed with a multivariable binary logistic regression model. The cohort-level median age was 69 years, and 14,337 (46.1%) had medical comorbidity. Perioperative complications were reported in 4736 (15.2%) patients during the hospital admission for vulvar surgery. In multivariable analysis, patient factors including older age, medical comorbidity, and morbid obesity, and treatment factors with prior radiotherapy and radical vulvectomy were associated with perioperative complications (P < 0.05). The number of patients with morbid obesity, higher comorbidity index, and prior radiotherapy increased over time (P-trends < 0.001). Among 4736 patients who developed perioperative complications, 55 patients died during the hospital admission for vulvar surgery (failure-to-rescue rate, 1.2%). In multivariable analysis, cardiac arrest (adjusted-odds ratio [aOR] 27.25), sepsis or systemic inflammatory response syndrome (aOR 11.54), pneumonia (aOR 6.03), shock (aOR 4.37), and respiratory failure (aOR 3.10) were associated with failure-to-rescue (high-risk morbidities). There was an increasing trend of high-risk morbidities from 2.0% to 3.7% over time, but the failure-to-rescue from high-risk morbidities decreased from 9.1% to 2.8% (P-trend < 0.05). Vulvar cancer patients undergoing surgical treatment had increased comorbidity over time with an increase in high-risk complications. Purpose: The incidence of peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC)-related complications is higher in cancer patients than in noncancer patients. However, the pattern of specific complication occurrence over time remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical characteristics of PICC-related complications in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Methods: This prospective, observational study was conducted at a university-affiliated hospital in Western China. Cancer patients undergoing PICC insertion for anticancer treatment were recruited and followed up until the first week after catheter removal. Any complications, including occurrence time and outcomes, were recorded. The trajectory of specific PICC-related complications over time were identify based on the Kaplan‒Meier curve analysis. Results: Of the 233 patients analyzed, nearly half (n = 112/233, 48.1%) developed 150 PICC-related complication events. The most common were symptomatic catheter-related thrombosis (CRT) (n = 37/233, 15.9%), medical adhesive-related skin injury (MARSI) (n = 27/233, 11.6%), and catheter dislodgement (n = 17/233, 7.3%), accounting for 54.0% (n = 81/150, 54.0%) of total complications events. According to Kaplan‒Meier curve analysis, symptomatic CRT, pain, phlebitis, and insertion site bleeding were classified as the "early onset" group mainly occurring within the first month post-insertion. Catheter fracture and catheter-related bloodstream infection were classified as the "late onset" group occurring after the second month post-insertion. MARSI, catheter dislodgement, occlusion, and insertion site infection were classified as the "persistent onset" group persistently occurring during the whole catheter-dwelling period. Among the 112 patients with PICC-related complications, 50 (44.6%) patients had their catheters removed due to complications, and 62 (55.4%) patients successfully retained their catheters until treatment completion through conventional interventions. The major reasons for unplanned catheter removal were catheter dislodgement (n = 12/233, 5.2%), symptomatic CRT (n = 10/233, 4.3%), and MARSI (n = 7/233, 3.0%), accounting for 58.0% (n = 29/50, 58.0%) of the total unplanned catheter removal cases. Catheter dwelling times between patients with complications under successful interventions (130.5 ± 32.1 days) and patients with no complications (138.2 ± 46.4 days) were not significantly different (t = 1.306, p = 0.194; log-rank test = 2.610, p = 0.106). Conclusions: PICC-related complications were pretty common in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. The time distribution of PICC-related complications varied, and medical staff should develop time-specific protocols for prevention. Because more than half of the patients with PICC-related complications could be managed with conventional interventions, PICCs remain a priority for cancer patients undergoing short-term chemotherapy. Introduction: Subcricoid‐hemilaryngopharyngectomy (SCHLP) with a reconstruction using a fasciocutaneous free flap armed with cartilage graft (FFACG) aims to avoid permanent tracheostomy while still maintaining the laryngopharyngeal functions. The purpose of this study is to report the outcome of this surgical approach. Materials and Methods: Retrospective study including 17 men operated between 2001 and 2019. Specific survival rate included death caused by cancer or SCHLP complications. Complications, functional and oncological outcomes were evaluated retrospectively. Results: There were no locoregional recurrences. One patient died due to inhalation pneumonia 3 years after surgery. Tracheostomy was closed in 13 patients (76.5%). Mean decannulation time was at six [1–14] months after surgery. Conclusion: SCHPL with FFACG could avoid total pharyngolaryngectomy with good oncologic results. However, tracheotomy is extended and deglutition recovery is long with high risk of aspirations. Polyphenols have attracted attention for their anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, and anticancer properties. Due to the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential of these molecules, they are also proposed as a potential therapeutic tool to prevent complications of cancer and decrease the secondary effects of conventional chemotherapeutic drugs. Nonetheless, polyphenols such as flavonoids and phenolic acids have low bioavailability, as they are highly metabolized. Thus, administration strategies have been developed to enhance the anticancer properties of polyphenols. Most of these strategies involve different encapsulation techniques, such as nanoencapsulation, nanoemulsion, and the use of other polymeric matrixes. These techniques can increase the activity of these compounds after going through the gastrointestinal process and improve their solubility in an aqueous medium. This review comprises recent studies regarding encapsulation techniques to enhance the bioactivity of polyphenols against cancer and their current state in clinical studies. Overall, micro- and nanoencapsulation techniques with different polymers enhanced the anticancer properties of polyphenols by inhibiting tumor growth, modulating the expression of genes related to metastasis and angiogenesis, decreasing the expression of pro-inflammatory biomarkers. Despite being an essential part of whole-person care, patients with cancer often experience complex and under-treated pain. Managing cancer-related pain in patients who are also pregnant compounds the challenge for adequate pain management, as studies have largely excluded this population. Therapy for pain management should be guided by the cause and mechanism of pain. The objective of this review is to provide clinicians with an understanding of pain experienced by pregnant patients with cancer and medications that may be used to help manage cancer-related pain. Nociceptive pain results from damage to somatic or visceral tissues that may be directly caused by cancer. This type of pain can be managed in pregnant patients using acetaminophen and/or nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs as first-line agents. In nociceptive pain not managed by non-opioid analgesics, buprenorphine is recommended for those requiring chronic opioids to help manage their pain. Neuropathic pain that results from damage to the peripheral or central nervous system may also be directly caused by cancer, particularly chemotherapy. In pregnant patients, duloxetine and gabapentin should be considered first. Venlafaxine, pregabalin, tricyclic antidepressants, and sodium channel blockers should be avoided, if possible. Nociplastic pain is not directly caused by cancer but may be caused by ongoing peripheral nociceptive input or a condition that predates the cancer diagnosis. Duloxetine and gabapentin are reasonable agents to consider for treatment of nociceptive pain in pregnant patients. Cyclobenzaprine may also be helpful for nociplastic pain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To assess the rates of detection of clinically significant prostate cancer (csPCa) and complications associated with transperineal (TP) and transrectal (TR) biopsy approaches to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-fusion targeted biopsy. We retrospectively identified men who underwent TP or TR MRI-targeted biopsy with concurrent systematic random biopsy from August 2020 to August 2021. Primary outcomes were detection rates of csPCa and 30-day complication rates between the 2 MRI-biopsy groups. Data were additionally stratified by prior biopsy status. A total of 361 patients were included in the analysis. No demographic differences were observed. No significant differences were observed between TP and TR approaches on any of the outcomes of interest. TR MRI-targeted biopsies identified csPCa in 47.2% of patients, and TP MRI-targeted biopsies identified csPCa in 48.6% of patients (P =.78). No significant differences were observed in csPCa detection between the 2 approaches for patients on active surveillance (P =.59), patients with prior negative biopsy (P =.34), and patients who were biopsy naïve (P =.19). Complication rates did not vary by approach (P =.45). Neither the identification of csPCa by MRI-targeted biopsy nor rates of complications differed significantly based on a TR or TP approach. Purpose: Cancer-related complications (CrC) and any potentially life-threatening findings detected on routine oncological imaging requires urgent intervention and needs proactive management. We conducted a retrospective study to highlight the role of imaging in the detection of CrC on computed tomography (CT)-scan while sharing our experience at a tertiary care cancer hospital. Materials and methods: All the reports of the CT scans performed in our department between January 2018 and December 2019 were reviewed and the imaging findings of CrC were recorded. Only the patients who had known malignancy and underwent imaging evaluation at our centre at baseline/follow up/surveillance were included. The clinical details of the patients were recorded and the findings were classified based on the system or organ involved and also on the basis of its impact on clinical management. Results: A total of 14,226 CT scans were performed during the study period, out of which 599 patients had CrC. Most of the CrC were seen involving thorax (265/599, 44.3%) followed by abdomen (229/599, 38.2%) and head and neck (104/599, 17.3%) regions. The commonly encountered CrC were pulmonary infections, superior vena cava obstruction and drug-induced lung changes. Conclusion: CrC have significant impact on the course of management of cancer patients and radiologist plays an important role in early diagnosis and initiation of prompt management of many such patients. The obesity paradox is reported to exist in various diseases. However, obesity is a pivotal issue in gastric cancer (GC) patients because of the surgical difficulty related to postoperative abdominal infectious complications (PAIC). This study clarified the existence of the obesity paradox in GC. Between 1997 and 2015, 1536 consecutive patients underwent curative gastrectomy. Of all patients, 18.6% (285/1536) were obese and tended to have a better prognosis (P = 0.073). In patients without PAIC, obesity was a significant prognostic factor for 5-year overall survival (P = 0.017). PAIC was an independent poor prognostic factor in both obese and non-obese patients (P < 0.001; hazard ratio [HR] 4.22 and 1.82). In pStage II–III patients, there was a large and significant prognostic difference between non-PAIC and PAIC obese patients (P = 0.006; 5-year overall survival: 69.7% vs. 43.8%) related to the higher incidence of peritoneal recurrence in PAIC obese patients (P = 0.035; 31% vs. 10%). Whereas, there was a small prognostic difference between non-PAIC and PAIC non-obese patients (P = 0.102; 5-year overall survival: 56.5% vs. 51.9%). Patients with primary colorectal cancer can present with obstructions, tumor bleeding, or perforations, which represent acute complications. This paper aimed to analyze and compare the clinical and pathological profiles of two patient groups: one with colorectal cancer and a related complication and another without any specific complication. We performed a five-year retrospective study on colorectal cancer patients admitted to a surgery unit and comparatively explored the main clinical and pathological features of the tumors belonging to the two groups. A total of 250 patients with colorectal cancer were included in the analysis. Of these, 117 (46.8%) had presented a type of complication. The comparative analysis that examined several clinical and pathological parameters showed a statistically significant difference for unfavorable prognosis factors in the group with complications. This was evident for features such as vascular and perineural invasion, lymph node involvement, pathological primary tumor stage, and TNM stage. Colorectal cancers with a related complication belonged to a group of tumors with a more aggressive histopathologic profile and more advanced stages. Furthermore, the comparable incidence of cases in the two groups of patients warrants further efforts to be made in terms of early detection and prognosis prediction of colorectal cancer. Immunotherapy has revolutionized cancer treatment over the past decade. As it is increasingly introduced into routine clinical practice, immune-related complications have become more frequent. Background: Hematuria, characterized by red blood cells in the urine, is a clinical symptom that demands an immediate investigation for potential urologic cancers, particularly in cases of gross hematuria. This study seeks to comprehensively review various urologic malignancies causing hematuria, such as urothelial carcinoma, renal cell carcinoma, and prostate ductal carcinoma. The review is anchored on the current urologic clinical guidelines and published literature. Current Concepts: Gross hematuria commonly signifies urologic cancer, with approximately 20% of gross hematuria cases and 5% of microscopic hematuria cases associated with a urologic cancer diagnosis. Cystoscopy and imaging studies of the upper urinary tract are recommended in patients presenting with gross hematuria, with urine cytology as a potential supplementary test. Conversely, in the presence of microscopic hematuria only, it is advisable to conduct appropriate tests while considering variables such as patient age. When hematuria occurs alongside antithrombotic drug administration, it is crucial not to forego appropriate testing due to the antithrombotic medication. Hematuria is a prevalent symptom of bladder cancer, renal cancer, and urothelial carcinoma; it can also be present in patients with prostate ductal carcinoma. Discussion and Conclusion: In instances of no urinary tract infection or other discernible cause of hematuria, a consultation with a urologist is recommended, irrespective of the patient's age. When dealing with patients with urologic cancer, an early diagnosis is a critical factor influencing patient prognosis. Background: The advent of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has powerfully broadened the scope of treatment options for malignancies with an ongoing increase of indications, but immune-related adverse events (irAEs) represent a serious threat to treatment success. Agents directed against programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) or its ligand 1 (PD-L1) are known to cause renal complications with an incidence of 3%. In contrast, subclinical renal involvement is estimated to be much higher, up to 29%. We recently reported about urinary flow cytometry-based detection of urinary PD-L1-positive (PDL1+) kidney cells correlating with tubular PD-L1-positivity that reflected susceptibility to develop ICI-related nephrotoxicity as an irAE attending ICI treatment. Therefore, we designed a study protocol to evaluate urinary detection of PD-L1+ kidney cells as a tool for non-invasive biomonitoring of renal complications in cancer patients treated with ICIs. Methods: A prospective, controlled, non-interventional, longitudinal, singlecenter observational study will be conducted at the Department of Nephrology and Rheumatology of the University Medical Center Göttingen, Germany. We intend to enroll approximately 200 patients treated with immunotherapy from the Departments of Urology, Dermatology, and Hematology and Medical Oncology of the University Medical Center Göttingen, Germany. First, we will assess clinical, laboratory, histopathological, and urinary parameters in addition to urinary cell collection. Then, we will perform a correlative analysis between urinary flow cytometry of different PDL1+ cell of renal origin with the onset of ICI-related nephrotoxicity. Discussion: Because of growing ICI-treatment applicability with an expectable incidence of renal complications, providing cost-efficient and easily performable diagnostic tools for treatment-attendant and non-invasive biomonitoring becomes vital to improve both renal and overall survival rates in cancer patients receiving immunotherapy. Introduction: There is currently no validated score capable of classifying cancer-associated pulmonary embolism (PE) in its full spectrum of severity. This study has validated the EPIPHANY Index, a new tool to predict serious complications in cancer patients with suspected or unsuspected PE. Method: The PERSEO Study prospectively recruited individuals with PE and active cancer or receiving antineoplastic therapy from 22 Spanish hospitals. The estimation of the relative frequency θ of complications based on the EPIPHANY Index categories was made using the Bayesian alternative for the binomial test. Results: A total of 900 patients, who were diagnosed with PE between October 2017 and January 2020, were enrolled. The rate of serious complications at 15 days was 11.8%, 95% highest density interval [HDI], 9.8–14.1%. Of the EPIPHANY low-risk patients, 2.4% (95% HDI, 0.8–4.6%) had serious complications, as did 5.5% (95% HDI, 2.9–8.7%) of the moderate-risk participants and 21.0% (95% HDI, 17.0–24.0%) of those with high-risk episodes. The EPIPHANY Index was associated with overall survival (OS) in patients with different risk levels: median OS was 16.5, 14.4, and 4.4 months for those at low, intermediate, and high risk, respectively. Both the EPIPHANY Index and the Hestia criteria exhibited greater negative predictive value and a lower negative likelihood ratio than the remaining models. The incidence of bleeding at 6 months was 6.2% (95% HDI, 2.9–9.5%) in low/moderate-risk vs 12.7% (95% HDI, 10.1–15.4%) in high-risk (p-value = 0.037) episodes. Of the outpatients, serious complications at 15 days were recorded in 2.1% (95% HDI, 0.7–4.0%) of the cases with EPIPHANY low/intermediate-risk vs 5.3% (95% HDI, 1.7–11.8%) in high-risk cases. Conclusion: We have validated the EPIPHANY Index in patients with incidental or symptomatic cancer-related PE. Background: Testicular masses can be a sign of various medical problems, ranging from acute emergencies such as testicular torsion to chronic illnesses such as cancer. Therefore, examinations, including self-examinations, are an important procedure for diagnosis and treatment, which can help prevent complications such as loss of fertility. Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of awareness about scrotal swelling among adult men in Saudi Arabia. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey was administered to 3502 males, aged 18-50 years, from August 2021 to March 2022. Results: A total of 3502 participants from different regions of Saudi Arabia responded to our survey over 43 days, from August 21, 2021 to October 3, 2021. Unmarried, Master's/PhD graduated male, showed a high level of knowledge and attitude toward testicular swelling. Conclusion: The prevalence of cases of scrotal swelling, coupled with the lack of reporting or immediate intervention, was one of the reasons for the lack of research about this subject. The study notices several factors which impacted on participants' awareness of scrotal swelling and the risks it poses. Breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease with unique neurologic complications that can arise from central nervous system (CNS) involvement or secondary to treatments themselves. As progress is made, with more targeted therapies and combinations available, particularly in the realm of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)‐positive disease, the role of these new agents in patients with CNS disease is gradually evolving, although intracranial efficacy itself is lagging. At the same time, both systemic and local standard therapies pose clinical challenges regarding neurologic complications, such as peripheral neuropathy and cognitive changes. The development of new agents, such as immunotherapy, and new strategies, such as incorporating systemic therapies into local therapy, unveil new presentations of neurological complications. Similar to their pivotal roles in nervous system development, neurons have emerged as critical regulators of cancer initiation, maintenance, and progression. Focusing on nervous system tumors, we describe the normal relationships between neurons and other cell types relevant to normal nerve function, and discuss how disruptions of these interactions promote tumor evolution, focusing on electrical (gap junctions) and chemical (synaptic) coupling, as well as the establishment of new paracrine relationships. We also review how neuron–tumor communication contributes to some of the complications of cancer, including neuropathy, chemobrain, seizures, and pain. Finally, we consider the implications of cancer neuroscience in establishing risk for tumor penetrance and in the design of future anti-tumoral treatments. Background: Rates of maximal effort cytoreductive surgery in ovarian cancer patients increase gradually the last decade. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate factors that contribute to survival and morbidity outcomes in this group of patients. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patient records of epithelial ovarian cancer patients with an intermediate and high Mayo Clinic surgical complexity score, operated between January 2010 and December 2018. Results: Overall, 107 patients were enrolled in the present study with a median age of 62 years (23–84) and a follow-up of 32 months (2–156). Thirteen Clavien-Dindo grade IIIa complications were documented in 10 patients (9.3%). Of all the investigated factors, only stage IVb (p = 0.027) and interval debulking surgery (p = 0.042) affected overall survival rates. Overall survival outcomes of patients operated on a primary setting started to differentiate compared to those that received neo-adjuvant chemotherapy after the 4th postoperative year. Conclusions: Maximal effort cytoreductive procedures should be considered feasible in the modern surgical era, as they are accompanied by acceptable rates of perioperative morbidity. Hence, every effort should be made to perform them in the primary setting, rather than following neoadjuvant chemotherapy as current evidence favor increased survival rates of patients that will likely surpass an interval of observation of more than 4 years. Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most frequent of the hereditary diseases affecting the kidney but it can also be associated with cysts in the pancreas, liver, arachnoid, seminal vesicles. In particular, ADPKD plus adult polycystic liver disease (APLD) is defined as Potter type III. In the literature, the association of malignant neoplasm with APLD and ADPKD is extremely rare. We have found only nine cases. Only one report described multiple gastric carcinomas associated with Potter type III cystic disease. Background and Aim: Optic pathway glioma (OPG) is a chronic condition that needs a multi-disciplinary management strategy. Most of these tumors are observed in the pediatric population and the tumor tends to stabilize after the child's growth. This benign course can be observed mostly in neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1) patients, which are about half of the pediatric patients. Methods and Materials/Patients: The current literature in PubMed and Scopus databases was searched. The recent data regarding OPG and treatment options were reviewed to design this narrative mini-review. Results: The brief data extracted from 17 articles, cited in the reference list, were included in the study. Conclusion: Chemotherapy is the first and best treatment modality for patients with OPG. It is more useful at younger ages because it has lower rates of complications and cancer in the future compared with radiotherapy, the treatment of choice in previous decades for these patients. However, in recent practice, it has been substituted by chemotherapy because of its serious adverse effects on the pediatric population. Neurosurgical treatments for OPG are used for three main purposes, third ventricle obstruction-related hydrocephalus, biopsy, and tissue diagnosis for cases with an uncertain diagnosis, and tumor decompression due to mass effect on vital structures. Surgical decompression is not considered the first-line treatment in OPG. It can be used for patients with progressive exophthalmos with ipsilateral blindness or patients with refractory pain after adjuvant treatment.
