Abstract

A new method for calibrating the hadron response of a segmented calorimeter is developed and successfully applied to beam test data. It is based on a principal component analysis of energy deposits in the calorimeter layers, exploiting longitudinal shower development information to improve the measured energy resolution. Corrections for invisible hadronic energy and energy lost in dead material in front of and between the calorimeters of the ATLAS experiment were calculated with simulated Geant4 Monte Carlo events and used to reconstruct the energy of pions impinging on the calorimeters during the 2004 Barrel Combined Beam Test at the CERN H8 area. For pion beams with energies between 20 GeV and 180 GeV, the particle energy is reconstructed within 3% and the energy resolution is improved by between 11% and 25% compared to the resolution at the electromagnetic scale., Comment: 36 pages, 12 figures, accepted by JINST

Abstract

Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy (PRRT) delivers targeted radiation to Somatostatin Receptor (SSR) expressing Neuroendocrine Neoplasms (NEN). We sought to assess the predictive and prognostic implications of tumour dosimetry with respect to response by 68 Ga DOTATATE (GaTate) PET/CT molecular imaging tumour volume of SSR (MITVSSR) change and RECIST 1.1, and overall survival (OS). Methods: Patients with gastro-entero-pancreatic (GEP) NEN who received LuTate followed by quantitative SPECT/CT (Q-SPECT/CT) the next day (Jul 2010 to Jan 2019) were retrospectively reviewed. Single time-point (STP) lesional dosimetry was performed for each cycle using population-based pharmacokinetic modelling. MITVSSR and RECIST 1.1 were measured at 3-months post PRRT. Results: Median of 4 PRRT cycles were administered to 90 patients (range 2–5 cycles; mean 27.4 GBq cumulative activity; mean 7.6 GBq per cycle). 68% received at least one cycle with radiosensitising chemotherapy (RSC). RECIST 1.1 partial response was 24%, with 70% stable and 7% progressive disease. Cycle 1 radiation dose in measurable lesions was associated with local response (odds ratio 1.5 per 50 Gy [95% CI: 1.1–2.0], p = 0.002) when adjusted by tumour grade and RSC. Median change in MITVSSR was -63% (interquartile range -84 to -29), with no correlation with radiation dose to the most avid lesion on univariable or multivariant analyses (5.6 per 10 Gy [95% CI: -1.6, 12.8], p = 0.133). OS at 5-years was 68% (95% CI: 56–78%). Neither baseline MITVSSR (hazard ratio 1.1 [95% CI: 1.0, 1.2], p = 0.128) nor change in baseline MITVSSR (hazard ratio 1.0 [95% CI: 1.0, 1.1], p = 0.223) were associated with OS when adjusted by tumour grade and RSC but RSC was (95% CI: 0.2, 0.8, p = 0.012). Conclusion: Radiation dose to tumour during PRRT was predictive of radiologic response but not survival. Survival outcomes may relate to other biological factors. 21. 'Deeper than Rap': Gifted Males and Their Relationship with Hip Hop Culture

Abstract

One would be hard-pressed to deny the impact that hip hop is having on gifted students. More specifically, because hip hop is a creative and exciting male-dominated culture, gifted males gravitate to hip hop culture. From the perspective of two Black men from two different generations, this article was inspired by discussions about the role of hip hop in our own personal and professional lives as well as the lives of our gifted sons. The authors share their insights to help educators understand the tremendous impact of hip hop on gifted males. Attention is given to the origins of hip hop and unpacking negative images associated with hip hop as they relate to gifted males. The authors conclude with recommendations and resources for parents and educators interested in using hip hop to academically engage gifted males. (Contains 2 tables and 8 notes.)

Abstract

Pulmonary functional imaging has demonstrated potential to improve thoracic radiotherapy. The purpose of this study was twofold: 1) to quantify ventilation/perfusion relationships in lung cancer patients using a new functional imaging approach, gallium-68 (68Ga)-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT); and 2) to compare ventilation/perfusion matching with diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (DLCO). Voxel-wise correlations between ventilation and perfusion varied widely among 19 patients (range: 0.26-0.88). 68Ga-PET/CT-measured percent gas exchanging lung volume was moderately correlated with DLCO (≤0.59). Our findings suggested that 68Ga-PET/CT ventilation/perfusion imaging provided complementary information and a reasonable surrogate for gas exchange in lung cancer patients.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: ImmunoPET is a multicentre, single arm, phase 0-1 study that aims to establish if 89Zr-durvalumab PET/CT can be used to interrogate the expression of PD-L1 in larger, multicentre clinical trials. METHODS: The phase 0 study recruited 5 PD-L1+ patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Patients received 60MBq/70 kg 89Zr-durva up to a maximum of 74 MBq, with scan acquisition at days 0, 1, 3 or 5±1 day. Data on (1) Percentage of injected 89Zr-durva dose found in organs of interest (2) Absorbed organ doses (µSv/MBq of administered 89Zr-durva) and (3) whole-body dose expressed as mSv/100MBq of administered dose was collected to characterise biodistribution.The phase 1 study will recruit 20 patients undergoing concurrent chemoradiotherapy for stage III NSCLC. Patients will have 89Zr-durva and FDG-PET/CT before, during and after chemoradiation. In order to establish the feasibility of 89Zr-durva PET/CT for larger multicentre trials, we will collect both imaging and toxicity data. Feasibility will be deemed to have been met if more than 80% of patients are able complete all trial requirements with no significant toxicity. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: This phase 0 study has ethics approval (HREC/65450/PMCC 20/100) and is registered on the Australian Clinical Trials Network (ACTRN12621000171819). The protocol, technical and clinical data will be disseminated by conference presentations and publications. Any modifications to the protocol will be formally documented by administrative letters and must be submitted to the approving HREC for review and approval. Abstract

BACKGROUND: Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is overexpressed in the neovasculature of renal cell carcinoma (RCC). However, there remains limited evidence regarding the use of PSMA positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in RCC. OBJECTIVE: To assess the impact of PSMA PET/CT in the management of metastatic RCC. DESIGN SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS: This was a retrospective review of patients who underwent PSMA PET/CT from 2014 to 2020 for restaging or suspected metastatic RCC in a tertiary academic setting. OUTCOME MEASUREMENTS AND STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: Management plans before and after PSMA PET/CT were recorded. Impact was classified as high (change of treatment intent, modality, or site), medium (change in treatment method), or low. Secondary outcomes included the patient-level detection rate, PSMA PET/CT parameters, sensitivity, and comparison to CT and, if available, fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT. RESULTS AND LIMITATIONS: Sixty-one patients met the inclusion criteria, of whom 54 (89%) had clear cell RCC. PSMA-positive disease was detected in 51 patients (84%). For 30 patients (49%) there was a change in management due to PSMA PET/CT (high impact, 29 patients, 48%). In 15 patients (25%), more metastases were detected on PSMA PET/CT than on CT. The sensitivity of combined PSMA PET/CT and diagnostic CT was 91% (95% confidence interval 77-98%). In a subcohort of 40 patients, the detection rate was 88% for PSMA and 75% for FDG PET/CT (p = 0.17). The maximum standardised uptake value (SUVmax) was higher for PSMA than for FDG PET/CT (15.2 vs 8.0; p = 0.02). Limitations include selection bias due to the retrospective design, and a lack of corresponding histopathology for all patients. CONCLUSIONS: PSMA PET/CT is a promising imaging modality in metastatic RCC and led to a change in management in 49% of patients. PSMA PET/CT detected additional metastases compared to CT in 25% of patients and registered a significantly higher SUVmax than FDG PET/CT

Abstract

We evaluated the correlation of maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) with pathologic tumor grade in the surgical specimen of primary retroperitoneal dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDLPS) and leiomyosarcoma (LMS).Methods Patients with the above histological subtypes in three participating institutions with preoperative F-18-FDG PET/CT scan and histopathological specimen available for review were included. The association between SUVmax and pathological grade was assessed. Correlation between SUVmax and relapse-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were also studied.Results Of the total 58 patients, final pathological subtype was DDLPS in 44 (75.9%) patients and LMS in 14 (24.1%) patients. The mean SUVmax was 8.7 with a median 7.1 (range, 2.2-33.9). The tumors were graded I, II, III in 6 (10.3%), 35 (60.3%), and 17 (29.3%) patients, respectively. There was an association of higher histological grade with higher SUVmax (r(s) = 0.40, p = .002). Increasing SUVmax was associated with worse RFS (p = .003) and OS (p = .003).Conclusion There is a correlation between SUVmax and pathologic tumor grade; increasing SUVmax was associated with worse OS and RFS, providing a preoperative noninvasive surrogate marker of tumor grade and biological behavior.

Abstract

Item does not contain fulltext, This paper orchestrates alterethnographical reflections in which we, women, polyphonically document, celebrate and vocalize the sound of change. This change is represented in Kamala Harris's appointment as the first woman, woman of color, and South Asian American as the US Vice President, breaking new boundaries of political leadership, and harvesting new gains for women in leadership and power more broadly. With feminist awareness and curiosity, we organize and mobilize individual texts into a multivocal paper as a way to write solidarity between women. Recognizing our intersectional differences, and power differentials inherent in our different positions in academic hierarchies, we unite to write about our collective concerns regarding gendered, racialised, classed social relations. Coming together across intersectional differences in a writing community has been a vehicle to speak, relate, share, and voice our feelings and thoughts to document this historic moment and build a momentum to fulfill our hopes for social change. As feminists, we accept our responsibility to make this history written, rather than manipulated or erased, by breaking the mold in the form of multi-layered embodied texts to expand writing and doing research differently through re/writing otherness.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: The role of FDG-PET/CT imaging in assessing response to immunotherapy in advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) is unknown. This study compared complete metabolic response (CMR) rates by FDG-PET and RECIST1.1 via CT or MRI in patients on cemiplimab for > 10 months. METHODS: This was a single-centre retrospective study of 15 patients treated with cemiplimab for advanced CSCC who had CT/MRI and FDG-PET/CT at > 10 months to assess metabolic treatment response. The median age was 73 years (range 55-84) and 93% were male. RECIST1.1 and PERCIST1.0 tumor responses were evaluated by blinded readers. RESULTS: Seventy-three percent (11/15) (95%CI 44.9, 92.2%) achieved a CMR on PET. Of these 11, on RECIST1.1 there was one complete response, 9 partial responses and one stable disease. CONCLUSIONS: In patients on cemiplimab for > 10 months, there was discordance between CR rates on FDG-PET versus RECIST1.1. FDG-PET/CT may have utility for clarifying depth of response in patients treated with immunotherapy for CSCC.
