Se identificaron los impactos ambientales que se manifiestan en la cuenca del río Aserrío para evaluar la calidad de las aguas para su uso como agua potable y en la agricultura. Se utilizaron datos hidroquímicos que comprobaron que entre las zonas más afectadas del río se encuentran los repartos La Playa, Moa Centro, El Caribe y El Atlántico. El agua del río no es apta para el consumo humano, pero puede ser utilizada para el riego en la agricultura.

En Colombia, los estudios de calidad del agua se han basado en su gran mayoría en información fisicoquímica o bacteriológica, y solamente en las últimas décadas se ha comenzado a integrar e implementar la bioindicación. El propósito del estudio fue caracterizar la calidad del agua del río Frío, usando macroinvertebrados bentónicos como indicadores biológicos, junto con parámetros fisicoquímicos. Con esta integración entre los índices bióticos y fisicoquímicos se determinó la calidad del agua de forma más precisa, debido a que se generó un acercamiento más detallado al estado del río Frío. Una vez muestreados e identificados los macroinvertebrados, se calcularon los índices de calidad BMWP/Col, ASTP, IBF, EPT, y los índices de biodiversidad Shannon-Weaver, riqueza específica, diversidad de Margalef y Menhinick. El número total de individuos resultado del estudio en la cuenca correspondió a 687, representados por 12 órdenes, 24 familias y 25 géneros. Adicionalmente, se llevaron a cabo un análisis de varianza y un análisis multivariante, a través de una correlación canónica. Finalmente, se determinó que la calidad del agua del río Frío es moderadamente contaminada; además, presenta una baja biodiversidad en las especies de macroinvertebrados, y se encontró que el resultado de los índices son independientes de las temporadas climáticas.

5. Quantifying regulatory limits for multiple stressors in an open and transparent way.

Biodiversity is confronted globally by multiple stressors. Environmental policies must regulate these stressors to achieve targets, but how should that be done when the outcomes of limits on one stressor are contingent on other stressors, about which there is imperfect knowledge? Deriving regulatory frameworks that incorporate these contingencies is an emerging challenge at the science–policy interface. To be fit for implementation, these frameworks need to facilitate the inherently sociopolitical process of policy implementation and account transparently for uncertainty, such that practitioners and other stakeholders can more realistically anticipate the range of potential outcomes to policy. We developed an approach to quantify stressor limits that explicitly accounts for multistressor contingencies. Using an invertebrate data set collected over 30 years throughout New Zealand, we combined ecological and ecotoxicological models to predict biodiversity loss as a function of one stressor, treating multistressor contingencies as a form of uncertainty about the outcomes of limits on that stressor. We transparently accounted for that uncertainty by presenting regulatory limits as bands bounded between optimistic and pessimistic views that practitioners may have about the local context within which limits are applied. In addition to transparently accounting for uncertainties, our framework also leaves room for practitioners to build stakeholder consensus when refining limits to suit different local contexts. A criticism of this open, transparent approach is that it creates too much scope for choosing limits that are lenient on polluters, paralyzing on‐the‐ground management of multiple stressors, but we demonstrate that this is not necessarily the case. 6. Scales of Connectivity within Stream Temperature Networks of the Clackamas River Basin, Oregon.

Water quality varies along the stream network; thus, considering the directional, dendritic nature of stream networks with surrounding landscape variables is essential in explaining spatial variations of water quality. Using a spatially extensive stream temperature monitoring effort in the Clackamas River Basin in the United States, we first compare spatial scales of analysis of atmospheric, landscape, and in-stream explanatory variables through their correlation with summer stream temperatures. We then derive a predictive stream temperature model with factors representing the spatial variation of local climate, recent wildfire effects, and discharge. Finally, we compare nonspatial multiple linear regression to a spatial stream network (SSN) model to assess the combined importance of the spatial scale of analysis and flow-connected stream distance in explaining total variation in stream temperatures. Most explanatory variables show the most highly significant relationships to stream temperature when derived as a percentage of the total upstream area above observation sites. Elevation and vegetation cover, however, were most significantly correlated to stream temperature at the riparian buffer area scale and the local reach contributing area scale, respectively. Multiple regression analysis using total upstream burned area, total upstream area with underlying High Cascades geology, and the elevation within the 100-m-wide riparian area explained 81 percent of variation in stream temperature. SSN outperformed this nonspatial statistical model, however, in explaining the total variation in stream temperature. These comparisons of scaled data sets demonstrate both the local and cumulative upstream effects on stream temperature, providing a spatial network-informed framework to those prioritizing watershed restoration and wildfire recovery activities. The article aims to review existing methodologies to assess heavy metal (HM) pollution associated with road sediment, which is discharged into urban water bodies. The systematic literature review used a citation frequency index (Q) to establish the importance of the variables considered. The results indicate that the key variables to be considered are as follows: Precipitation (Q = 0.83), total solids (0.70), heavy metals (0.61), hydrocarbons (0.32), solid waste (0.27) and runoff (0.23). The most relevant HMs are the following: Zn (0.79), Cu (0.76), Ni (0.68), Cr (0.65) and Pb (0.46). The evaluation methodologies detected are as follows: Chemical analysis (0.30), biological impact (0.29), numerical modeling (0.29), granulometric analysis (0.29) and laboratory simulations (0.22). The major HMs in road environments are Zn and Ni, and total solids can be used as indicators of HMs in road runoff. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The growing processes of urban expansion have led to changes in the biochemical and physical properties of the hydrological systems in watersheds, not only by altering the hydrological conditions of the territory, but also by introducing pollutants into water bodies. Thus, diffuse pollution from stormwater runoff is considered one of the main causes of water quality degradation in receiving waters in urban areas, especially in rainy regions such as the South American tropics, where urban development and management processes are generally poorly planned. This article presents the results of an evaluation of the relationship between land use and runoff water quality, taking into account different rainfall characteristics. Sampling was carried out in Medellín, Colombia, in areas with different land uses. Basic water quality parameters and some sources of urban pollution were studied. The results showed that parameters such as total suspended solids have a high variability, especially in the residential area, which makes it difficult to control the activities carried out there. The highest levels of pollution were found in the industrial area, where the presence of covers with very low or no permeability and the increase in anthropic activity cause a strong alteration in the quality of runoff water. These results open the door to question the impact of land use on the chemical composition of rainwater and promote a better understanding of surface runoff water pollution processes, thus providing a complete vision of the interactions in an urban ecosystem, establishing a key tool for water management in urban watersheds. Issues such as the suspension of licenses due to urban planning modifications, the lack of reasoned response from the Administration, and the assessment of environmental impacts are discussed. Despite meeting the formal requirements, the Court dismisses the appeal, sparking debate on the importance of the precautionary principle and comprehensive evaluation of environmental impacts. La calidad del agua está relacionada con parámetros biológicos, químicos y físicos y el grado de concentración de estos componentes presentes en el agua y que, de acuerdo a su nivel de presencia, afectan el consumo del recurso hídrico. Por ello, es necesario analizar la presencia de estos elementos en el agua del Estero El Macho en la ciudad de Machala, Ecuador a través de la aplicabilidad del método estadístico. El diseño de la investigación es correlacional con el apoyo de métodos estadísticos, regresión lineal múltiple y análisis de componentes principales presentes en las aguas. Los resultados evidenciaron la presencia de agentes tales como: Coliformes fecales, demanda bioquímica de oxígeno, demanda química de oxígeno, hierro y oxígeno disuelto fuera de los límites permitidos para un agua de calidad, por consiguiente, el agua del estuario de El Macho no cumple los criterios de calidad para poder ser consumida sin problemas. Se concluye que se deben desarrollar políticas para mitigar la presencia e impacto de estos componentes identificados, que afectan la calidad del agua.

14. Desarrollo y aplicación del modelamiento de calidad del agua con GESCAL-AQUATOOL en el río Lurín-Lima-Perú

La cuenca baja del río Lurín es una de las últimas grandes extensiones de áreas verdes en Lima, capital de Perú, sin embargo es afectada por diversas actividades antrópicas. Ante esta situación, y con el objetivo de mejorar el manejo de los recursos hídricos, se implementó un modelo de calidad del agua con el módulo GESCAL del sistema de soporte a la decisión AQUATOOL. La construcción de la red hidrográfica del río se hizo a partir de los datos recogidos en salidas de reconocimiento, mientras que para modelar la calidad del agua del tramo bajo del río se desarrolló un programa de monitoreo que tuvo como principales parámetros al oxígeno disuelto, DBO5 y Escherichia coli. Con la información obtenida se determinaron primero los coeficientes de degradación de materia orgánica, desoxigenación y reaireación de las secciones del río, y finalmente se parametrizó el modelo. La calibración del modelo en oxígeno disuelto obtuvo un rendimiento de “bueno” a “muy bueno”, con valores de 0.77, 0.23 y 0.8058 para E, RSR y r2, respectivamente; para el caso de la DBO5, se obtuvieron valores de 0.99, 0.01 y 0.9995 para E, RSR y r2, respectivamente; y para la Escherichia coli, valores de 0.99, 0.01 y 0.9993 para E, RSR y r2, respectivamente. Finalmente, se simularon cuatro escenarios, a partir de los cuales se determinó que para alcanzar los objetivos ambientales es necesario mejorar los procesos de las plantas de tratamiento de aguas residuales (PTAR) Manchay y San Bartolo; clausurar el canal de regadío proveniente de la capilla de la zona, e implementar una PTAR en el distrito de Pachacámac. El estudio demuestra la utilidad del sistema AQUATOOL/GESCAL en la toma de decisiones informadas para la gestión de los recursos hídricos a nivel de cuenca.

This is a review of studies related with the effects generated by the fast-growing exotic plantations (PECR) of Pinus radiata and Eucalyptus spp. on water quality of watersheds in south-central Chile, at different spatial and temporal scales. The analyzed data comes from a region between 36° - 40° S in the Central Valley and includes both mountain ranges, the Coastal and the Andes. Studies on the watershed's capacity to export nutrients indicate that the conversion from native forests to forest plantations implies a net loss in nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) retention capacity. Consequently, watersheds with plantations coverage experience a net loss of these nutrients. Similarly, in watersheds dominated by Eucalyptus globulus, nitrogen retention decreases, especially NO3-N, and is partially reversed as a wider riparian vegetation is maintained. Studies of soil erosion and sediment transport losses show that clearcut harvesting has significant impacts on water quality, increasing sediment transport rates in streams. However, when soil conservation measures are practiced, erosion rates decrease significantly during forest harvesting. Some of the physical-chemical characteristics of the water, such as pH and temperature, are similar between streams with native forests and forest plantations. There is also a tendency for a decrease of richness and abundance of the macrobenthic invertebrates community due to the replacement of riparian vegetation by Eucalyptus spp. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

El artículo tiene como objetivo revisar las metodologías existentes para evaluar la contaminación por metales pesados (MP) asociada con el sedimento vial, la cual es descargada sobre cuerpos hídricos urbanos. La revisión sistemática de literatura utilizó un índice de frecuencia de citación (Q) para establecer la importancia de las variables consideradas. Los resultados indican que las variables clave a considerar son las siguientes: Precipitación (Q = 0,83), sólidos totales (0,70), metales pesados (0,61), hidrocarburos (0,32), Residuos sólidos (0,27) y Escorrentía (0,23). Los MPs de mayor relevancia son los siguientes: Zn (0,79), Cu (0,76), Ni (0,68), Cr (0,65) y Pb (0,46). Las metodologías de evaluación detectadas son las siguientes: Análisis químico (0,30), impacto biológico (0,29), modelización numérica (0,29), análisis granulométrico (0,29) y simulaciones en laboratorio (0,22). Los MPs mayoritarios en ambientes viales son Zn y Ni, y los sólidos totales pueden ser utilizados como indicadores de MPs en la escorrentía vial.

The management of water resources in community systems faces several challenges when it comes to meeting the population's water demand. The efficiency of the water service provided by the Drinking Water Administrative Boards (JAAP) of the province of Los Ríos was diagnosed, through the identification of compliance (C) and non-compliance (NC), interviews and perception surveys based on the indicators: continuity of service, satisfaction with water quality, presence/absence of diseases, and perception of the work carried out by the directors of the JAAP. SPSS Statistic software was used, "Cronbach's alpha" (degree of reliability) was applied, Principal Component Analysis (PCA), KMO test (Kaiser--Meyer--Olkin Measure) showed a variable ratio of (0.78). The commonality matrix indicated a correlation criterion greater than (0.7), while the total variance explained for the principal component analysis was (76.14%). The majority of users considered it to be an optimal service, although 17.64% considered the pressure with which the water resource is received to be limiting, associating the presence of impurities. Water is among the inexhaustible resources but due to the admissible of chemical effluents in large quantities by dumping waste, sewage wastes, and industries discharge into the rivers; contamination of water in some other ways; uncontrollable biological activities; the weather conditions; havoc created by the humans, the quality of water become deteriorating day by day and also from the renewable resources it came to the verge of exhaustible resources. In the present scenario, there is a desideratum to control these particulates which directly or indirectly affect the quality of the water, and also there is a need to stop the overutilization of these precious resources and to deal with the amalgam of the biggest problem of the society i.e., to maintain water quality and quantity with the Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) to provide us a clear view of the parameters which impact the quality. Different parameters like Dissolved Oxygen, pH, Nitrate, and Feacal Coliform of water quality of river Yamuna at different locations are studied using the Entropy method which is used to find the objective weights of the criteria i.e., particulates here. This study majorly reveals the parametric estimations of water quality parameters to find the weightage of the parameters using the Entropy Method of MCDA so that government can take advanced and immediate steps concerning the parameters and also pose strict legal actions against those who are responsible for this major havoc. The paper analyzes the quality of the water supplied by the potable water treatment plant Altos of Quintero to the city of Santiago de Cuba through the study of five consumers. The quality of the parameters analyzed was determined for pH, color, turbidity, residual free chlorine and determination of total and fecal coliforms, resulting in La Colonia, La Cervecería Hatuey and the Combined Milk, which residual free chlorine and turbidity are outside the norm in some occasions. The effects of the quality of drinking water coming from the potabilizer were mainly the deterioration of the infrastructure of the supply networks and poor storage conditions of the liquid in the above mentioned institutions. Options are presented to ensure that water quality is maintained in the different consumption centers and a predictable model is proposed that allows the maximum time that guarantees the minimum level of allowable residual chlorine that a consumer source should have. Ecological trails are places that promote ecotourism, aiming to raise awareness about the preservation and conservation of natural resources. However, many trails have not been valued by environmental agencies or owners, depreciating their environmental function. Much of this is due to the lack of mapping and environmental characterization, also of its important natural resources such as bodies of water that can be used for drinking and/or bathing. In this sense, the aim of this study was to apply geoprocessing tools to the environmental characterization of a trail used by pilgrims in Delfim Moreira, southern Minas Gerais, and to evaluate five water points of interest to users regarding their potability (human consumption) and balneability (recreation), through microbiological analysis of total coliforms and Escherichia coli. The thematic maps generated were of location, vegetation, classification by the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), hypsometric and slope with longitudinal profile, soils, climate, hydrography and permanent preservation areas (PPA). The results of microbiological analysis showed that the waters of the springs that intersect the trail (points 3, 4 and 5) are contaminated with fecal coliforms (E. coli), being unsuitable for human consumption immediately. However, the water of the waterfall and river (points 1 and 2) showed excellent for recreational activities. The mapping and environmental characterization showed that it is a protected area trail, with easy access and low degree of physical effort by users, exuberant Atlantic Forest landscape, with strong tourist and economic appeal by environmental and tourism managers in the region. Objective: The article aims to diagnose the water supply system of the municipality of Conceição das Pedras - State of Minas Gerais, from the evaluation of the user's perception, in order to evaluate the quality of the service provided. Methodology: The population's perception was raised through the application of a data collection form on the water supply system, containing 17 closed questions and 3 open questions. The form was applied via Google Forms in March 2022 and 108 responses were obtained. Relevance: The users' perception is essential for the management and planning of actions to meet the water supply. Still, the provision of public sanitation services, especially in municipalities operated by local institutions, needs research and greater attention. Main Results: Important information was collected, such as notes that water sometimes has color, taste and odor. There are also complaints of greasy water. From the users' perception, the system has a low number of interruptions in the water supply and a brief resolution of the issue. With this, it can be pointed out that, even with the water supply system presenting some possible problems, the majority of the population considers the water quality to be good or regular, which is extremely important for the population's quality of life. Contributions: We hope that the information gathered by this research can contribute to a better management of the city's water supply system, as well as the applied methodology can serve as a guide for other papers. Objective. The study evaluated the performance and survival of Colossoma macropomum larvae at different temperatures and concentrations of prey. Materials and methods. Two temperatures (28 and 32°C) (T) and two initial daily concentrations (500 and 1,000 Artemia nauplii per larva) (CP) of prey were used. These concentrations were increased every 5 days during the first 15 days of cultivation. From the 16th to the 30th day, the larvae received exclusively a commercial diet. Results. In the first 7 days, weight (P), total length (TL) and daily specific growth rate (SGR) were higher for T32 treatments (p<0.05). After 15 days, P, TL and SGR were higher for CP1000 (p<0.05). After 22 days, P and TL suffered the effect of the initial concentration of prey and water temperature with higher values for CP1000 and T32 (p<0.05). At the end of 30 days of cultivation, P was affected only by water temperature with higher values for T32 (p<0.05). The TL showed an effect of temperature and initial concentration of prey with higher values for CP1000 and T32 (p<0.05). During feeding with a commercial diet (days 16-30 of cultivation), survival was higher for T32 (94.38±6.12%) (p<0.05), with no difference for initial prey concentration. Conclusions. It is concluded that the larviculture of C. macropomum must be carried out with a temperature of 32° C and that the food management must be differentiated during the first 15 days, positively influenced in the period of feeding with ration. This article correlates the results of three studies carried out between 2019 and 2022, on the situation of women in the context of the palm oil industry, water quality, and the dynamics of expansion of oil palm cultivation, with the period 2010-2020, in seven municipalities of the Northern Lowlands of Guatemala (Ixcán, Sayaxché, Chisec, Raxruhá, Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, Panzós and El Estor). The results of these analyses allow the authors to draw some conclusions that corroborate the complaints of local communities regarding the socio-environmental impacts of this monocrop. The article concludes with the need for the Guatemalan State to exercise its role as guarantor of human and environmental rights. At the same time, the international community must advance in approving regulations that ensure that transnational corporations observe "due diligence" throughout supply chains. Context: The intensifying utilization of glyphosate has provoked global scientific concern due to the potential large-scale impact on ecosystems. In 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) reclassified glyphosate and its degradation byproduct, aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA), as Category 2A, indicating probable human carcinogenicity. Knowledge Gap: A review of the existing literature reveals a relative scarcity of information on the aquatic impact of glyphosate and its degradation products. Purpose: To determine the scope and implications of the impact of glyphosate and its degradation products on aquatic ecosystems, in order to better understand their ecotoxicological effects and provide a foundation for future research and policy decisions in this area. Methodology: A systematic review of ecotoxicological studies published in Spanish and English over the last 12 years was conducted to assess the effects of glyphosate and its degradation products on aquatic ecosystems and the risks to vari-ous species. Approximately 95 documents were reviewed, including data from 69, addressing toxicity, biodegradation, contamination, and international regulations. Results: Studies have shown that chronic exposure to glyphosate can alter the metabolism in fish and affect the life cycle of organisms such as Daphnia Magna. The composition of glyphosate, along with its adjuvants, can increase its toxicity and pose risks to the aquatic ecosystem, making it crucial to understand the specific formulations and their concentrations. Conclusions: The increased use of glyphosate raised global scientific concerns due to its potential impact on ecosystems, with the IARC classifying it as possibly carcinogenic to humans. Studies showed acute toxicity to aquatic organisms and highlighted the need for risk assessment methodologies for long-term impacts on ecosystems and human. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Resumen: Se evaluó la calidad del agua de los ríos de una subcuenca árida del norte de Argentina en un gradiente longitudinal, durante el período de sequía máxima de 2017. Se estudió la composición y estructura del fitobentos mediante índices bióticos. Se determinaron 126 spp. en total, con predominio de diatomeas y cianobacterias. La mayoría de las especies de diatomeas encontradas eran de meso a polihalobas y tolerantes a la contaminación orgánica. A pesar de que los ríos de la cuenca atraviesan zonas con usos de la tierra muy diferentes, no se registraron diferencias en las abundancias de fitobentos entre los sitios. Según el Índice de Saprobiedad de Pantle & Buck, la subcuenca se clasificó en el rango de α‐mesosaprobiedad, y el Índice de Eutrofización/Contaminación por Diatomeas asigna una calidad baja a la mayoría de los sitios. La salinidad debe inducir una homogeneización de la ficoflora que limita la sensibilidad de los índices bióticos a los impactos antropogénicos. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Este estudio propone estrategias de mejora continua y sostenibilidad para la Planta Tratamiento de Agua Potable (ptap) de la Institución Universitaria Antonio José Camacho (uniajc), utilizando herramientas de Lean Manufacturing. El objetivo es impactar positivamente en variables críticas como el desperdicio, el consumo de agua, el consumo energético, la capacidad de la planta y la calidad del agua tratada. Se realizó una caracterización completa de la planta y se identificaron los problemas existentes. Mediante un análisis detallado se determinó que el desperdicio de agua y la calidad del producto eran los principales desafíos por abordar. Se aplicaron herramientas como el diagrama de proceso, Jidoka, Value Stream Mapping, diagrama de causa raíz, amef, control visual, Andon y mantenimiento autónomo para proponer soluciones y mejorar la eficiencia de la planta, reduciendo los costos operativos y los problemas ambientales asociados, permitiendo a la planta adaptarse a las crecientes demandas futuras. Además, se evaluó el consumo energético y se propusieron medidas para reducirlo. Los resultados de la implementación de estas mejoras muestran un beneficio claro en términos de costos y bienestar para la Universidad y sus estudiantes.

Son muchos los desafíos asociados a los microplásticos (MPs), destacando su presencia y efectos perjudiciales tanto en la salud humana como en el medio ambiente. Este trabajo presenta una posible solución propuesta por Captoplastic S.L (Captoplastic), una tecnología de captura y control de MPs en cualquier medio acuoso que se basa en la aglomeración y separación magnética de las partículas, logrando una alta eficacia de eliminación. También, se describe un método propio patentado por Captoplastic para el control de los MPs en cualquier muestra de agua, abordando las limitaciones actuales en las técnicas analíticas existentes, como el análisis en muestras complejas. Este estudio también determina la presencia y concentración de MPs en el vertido de una estación depuradora de agua residual urbana (EDAR). Se detalla la metodología utilizada, desde la preparación de muestras hasta los resultados experimentales, demostrando la efectividad del método en la detección y cuantificación de MPs en muestras reales de aguas residuales, validando la recuperación de estos contaminantes en un 96 %. Este avance tecnológico se presenta como una respuesta efectiva y prometedora para enfrentar el desafío global de la contaminación por MPs.

Se sistematiza una experiencia de articulación entre universidad, escuelas y movimientos sociales involucrados en conflictos ambientales por contaminación del agua. Se promovió la educación ambiental y la apropiación social de tecnologías de desarrollo libre mediante el monitoreo participativo de contaminación del agua en humedales urbanos del Área Metropolitana de Buenos Aires (Argentina). Para ello, se utilizó un bioensayo basado en microalgas, acoplado a tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (TIC), desarrolladas por el grupo de Sensores Comunitarios (CoSensores). Se presentan reflexiones en torno al desarrollo de tecnologías libres desde una perspectiva de educación popular vinculada al pensamiento ambiental latinoamericano.

El presente estudio evalúa la variabilidad hidroquímica del río Asana por influencia de la quebrada Millune en Moquegua, Perú. Se analizó la información de monitoreos de calidad de agua durante el periodo 2010-2018 a través de los diagramas de Gibbs, las relaciones molares, el diagrama de Piper, el diagrama de Stiff y el modelo hidrogeoquímico PHREEQC para la identificación de los índices de saturación de los principales minerales a los que están expuestos los cuerpos de agua en evaluación. El análisis por componentes principales permitió la identificación de la variabilidad de la hidroquímica en función de la naturaleza de la fuente y su estacionalidad. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que las aguas de la quebrada Millune, afluente del río Asana, son de naturaleza ácida con presencia de iones de aluminio y manganeso en concentraciones elevadas respecto a lo establecido en el ECA agua (estándar de calidad ambiental de agua), a diferencia del río Asana, que presenta concentraciones bajas; ambos ríos son de naturaleza sulfatada cálcica. Se determinó que los iones aluminio y manganeso se deben a la meteorización del mineral alunita y erosión del suelo, aporte mineral, por el deshielo paulatino del nevado Arundani, ubicado en la cabecera de cuenca del río Asana. Finalmente, el río Asana, por su capacidad de amortiguamiento, neutraliza las aguas ácidas y disminuye la solubilidad de los cationes disueltos.

México cuenta con una gran variedad de lagos de diferentes características y de gran importancia tanto para aspectos biológicos como sociales. El presente trabajo muestra el desarrollo de un sistema computacional para el análisis de la calidad del agua en cuerpos lacustres mediante la medición de parámetros fisicoquímicos de relevancia, como son temperatura, turbiedad y niveles de oxígeno disuelto. A través del diseño y construcción de un sistema de medición sumergible se automatiza el proceso de análisis de calidad del agua. El desarrollo de un software especializado para la gestión y medición de los datos obtenidos permite agilizar el proceso de evaluaciones de calidad del agua. Asimismo, se definen modelos matemáticos para la estimación de los parámetros de la calidad del agua a diferentes profundidades. Las mediciones experimentales realizadas se llevaron a cabo en el Lago de Zirahuén, localizado en el estado de Michoacán de Ocampo, México, debido a la importancia para el ecosistema de la localidad y a la diversidad de especies endémicas que habitan en él. Como resultado se obtiene una herramienta para facilitar la toma de decisiones con el propósito de conservar los cuerpos de agua, permitiendo realizar análisis más avanzados.

La agricultura es la principal actividad económica de las comunidades que integran la parte alta de la cuenca del río San Pedro-Mezquital. Por tal razón, el presente trabajo se enfoca en analizar la calidad del agua que se utiliza para riego agrícola mediante la observación de macroinvertebrados acuáticos, ya que son excelentes indicadores de dicho atributo y una alternativa importante para evaluar cuerpos de agua con vertido de actividades agrícolas. En la primera zona muestreada, en el río Nombre de Dios, se realizaron cuatro muestreos y se encontraron ocho órdenes, 12 familias y una calidad de agua media en su cauce. Para la segunda zona muestreada, en el río Graseros, se llevaron a cabo cuatro muestreos y se hallaron siete órdenes y 18 familias, con una calidad del agua alta en su cauce. En la tercera zona muestreada, en el río La Constancia, se hicieron seis muestreos, para los cuales se reportaron 11 órdenes y 23 familias, con una calidad del agua alta en su cauce. Los datos recabados servirán para generar un registro de las familias de macroinvertebrados y de la calidad del agua que hay en cada una de las zonas agrícolas muestreadas en la parte alta de la cuenca del río San Pedro-Mezquital.

44. Determinación de trihalometanos totales posterior al proceso de desinfección en sistemas de tratamiento de aguas residuales en Guatemala

En Guatemala, el método de desinfección más económico para el tratamiento de aguas residuales es la cloración, generando trihalometanos (THM) como principal contaminante. Este estudio evaluó los niveles de trihalomentanos totales (TTHM) en plantas de tratamiento de agua residual (PTAR) aerobias y anaerobias que utilizan cloración. Se empleó el método HACH 10132 para análisis, diseñado para agua potable adaptado a aguas residuales domésticas. Se tomaron muestras de seis PTAR en cinco zonas de la ciudad de Guatemala. De las 30 muestras analizadas, el 83% superó los límites de TTHM establecidos por la USEPA (80 µg/l). Los resultados de cloro residual indicaron que el tricloro fue la fuente predominante de TTHM. Se identificaron correlaciones significativas (coeficiente > 0.6) entre el tricloro y parámetros como DBO5, sólidos suspendidos y turbiedad en el 50% de las variables estudiadas. Estas asociaciones sugieren la influencia de la materia orgánica en la formación de TTHM. Este estudio destaca la necesidad de reconsiderar la eficacia y sostenibilidad de la cloración en el tratamiento de aguas residuales, así como la importancia de monitorear y controlar los niveles de TTHM para garantizar la calidad ambiental y la salud pública.

En Cuba la Oficina Nacional de Normalización estableció un procedimiento de cálculo para la delimitación de las zonas de protección sanitarias (ZPS), vigente en la NC 1192: 2017. Además de este procedimiento, existen modelos matemáticos que son aplicados en todo el mundo como es el caso del modelo matemático utilizando el programa WhAEM. Estos dos métodos fueron aplicados en cuatro de las fuentes de abasto de San José de las Lajas. Arrojando como resultado que los dos métodos presentan resultados favorables, con una relación entre ellos de un 99% de precisión, por lo que se justifica la utilización del programa WhAEM, en las zonas donde no se cuente con todos los datos hidrogeológicos necesarios para la utilización de la NC 1192: 2017. Lo cual garantiza que todos los pozos de abasto cuenten con la determinación de ZPS.

46. Ictiofauna de la subcuenca urbana del río Ocoa, drenaje superior del río Meta, cuenca del Orinoco, Colombia

El conocimiento acerca de la ictiofauna de los tramos altos del río Meta, uno de los principales afluentes del Orinoco, es aún poco conocida. En este trabajo se presenta el primer listado de peces registrados para el río Ocoa, a partir de 51 901 individuos muestreados en 15 localidades durante el ciclo hidrológico de 2014, incluidas zonas urbanas en el municipio de Villavicencio. Se obtuvieron registros de 88 especies, distribuidas en 21 familias y 5 órdenes, lo que corresponde al 12% de las especies de agua dulce reportadas para la Orinoquia colombiana. La cobertura de muestreo (SC) estimada para el río Ocoa fue del 99.9%, con una riqueza de especies observada que representa el 93.6% de la riqueza esperada. Entre las especies recolectadas, 13 están reportadas solo para Colombia, 43 tienen uso pesquero y cuatro especies son introducidas (Caquetaia kraussii, Oreochromis niloticus, Poecilia reticulata y Poecilia cf. caucana). Estas últimas dominan en sitios alterados con bajos niveles de oxígeno. Este estudio constituye la primera aproximación al conocimiento de la ictiofauna de una de las subcuencas de mayor importancia para el municipio de Villavicencio.

This article explores the postwar racialization of socionatural metabolisms as Michigan consolidated its capacities to regulate water pollution in the St. Clair–Detroit River corridor. These unceded waters flow through the traditional territories of the Ojibwe, Odawa, Potawatomi, Mississauga, and Wyandot nations, as well as the heavily industrialized, urbanized, and racially segregated geographies of southeast Michigan. Drawing on archival records, I examine discursive constructions of White settler and Indigenous water metabolisms that coarticulated with Michigan's growing concern that unchecked water pollution posed a metabolic barrier to industrial manufacturing. I situate these representations against the state's emerging objective to reconcile two interconnected forms of waste: (1) the material degradation of water attributed to Michigan's advanced capitalist economy, and (2) the wasted economic potential long used to denigrate Indigenous societies that "failed" to extract capitalist value from nature. This case study demonstrates how Michigan's discursive approach to managing a potential crisis of capitalist reproduction also reconfigured the logic of improvement as the racial and economic basis for settler colonial authority over nature. "Improving" nature was not only about facilitating access to nature for capitalist production, but reproducing—indefinitely—the ecological conditions on which capitalist production relied. This article builds on two lines of inquiry in critical geographic scholarship exploring mutually constitutive relationships between race and socionatural metabolisms, and between settler colonialism and environmental degradation, to interrogate the postwar discourses flowing through water management in southeast Michigan, a region where water remains at the center of multiple racialized dispossessions and their ongoing contestation. In Cuba the National Office of Normalization established a calculation procedure for the delimitation of the sanitary protection areas (ZPS), effective in the NC 1192: 2017, besides this procedure mathematical models that are applied in the entire world exist like it is the case of the mathematical pattern using the program WhAEM. These two methods were applied in four of the sources of supply of San José de las Lajas. Throwing as a result that the two methods present favorable results with a relationship among the two methods of 99% of precision, for what is justified the use of the program WhAEM, in the areas where it is not had all the data necessary hydrogeological for the use of the NC 1192: 2017.
