1. A New Data Science Model With Supervised Learning and its Application on Pesticide Poisoning Diagnosis in Rural Workers

Abstract: In a Data Science project, it is essential to determine the relevance of the data and identify patterns that contribute to decision–making based on domain–specific knowledge. Furthermore, a clear definition of methodologies and creation of documentation to guide a project’s development from inception to completion are essential elements. This study presents a Data Science model designed to guide the process, covering data collection through training with the aim of facilitating knowledge discovery. Motivated by deficiencies in existing Data Science methodologies, particularly the lack of practical step–by–step guidance on how to prepare data to reach the production phase. Named “Data Refinement Cycle with Supervised Machine Learning (DRC–SML)”, the proposed model was developed based on the emerging needs of a Data Sciense project aimed at assisting healthcare professionals in diagnosing pesticide poisoning among rural workers. The dataset used in this project resulted from scientific research in which 1027 samples were collected, containing data related to toxicity biomarkers and clinical analyses. We achieved an accuracy of 99.61% with only 27 rules for determining the diagnosis. The results optimized healthcare practices and improved quality of life in rural areas. The project outcomes demonstrated the success of the proposed model.

2. Physical–Chemical and Thermal Properties of Clays from Porto Santo Island, Portugal

Abstract: The use of clays for thermal treatments and cosmetic purposes continues to be a worldwide practice, whether through the preservation of native cultural traditions, pharmaceutical formulations or integrative health and well-being practices. Special clays, such as bentonites, are very common for healing applications due to their high cation exchange capacity (CEC), high specific surface area (SSA) and alkaline pH values and, therefore, are used in multiple therapeutic and dermocosmetic treatments. Numerous bentonitic deposits occur on Porto Santo Island with different chemical weathering degrees. This research evaluates which residual soils have the most suitable characteristics for pelotherapy. The texture of residual soils varies from silt loam to loamy sand and SSA between 39 and 90 m2/g. The pH is alkaline (8.7 to 9.6), electrical conductivity ranges from 242 to 972 µS/cm, and CEC from 50.4 to 86.8 µS/cm. The residual soils have a siliciclastic composition (41.36 to 54.02% SiO2), between 12.52 and 17.65% Al2O3 and between 52 and 82% smectite content, which are montmorillonite and nontronite. Specific heat capacity (0.5–0.9 J/g°C) and cooling kinetics (14.5–19 min) show that one residual soil has the potential to be suitable for pelotherapy according to the literature. Moreover, the residual soils have As, Cd, Co, Cr, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Sb and V concentrations higher than the limits of guidelines for cosmetics and pharmaceutical products.

Abstract: The finite element method (FEM) was used to investigate the optical–mechanical behavior of a Fabry–Perot Interferometer (FPI) composed of a capillary segment spliced between two sections of standard optical fiber. The developed FEM model was validated by comparing it with theory and with previously published experimental data. The model was then used to show that the absolute strain on the host substrate is usually smaller than the strain measurement obtained with the sensor. Finally, the FEM model was used to propose a cavity geometry that can be produced with repeatability and that yields the correct absolute strain experienced by the host substrate, without requiring previous strain calibration.

Abstract: Drought and fire reduce productivity and increase tree mortality in tropical forests. Fires also produce pyrogenic carbon (PyC), which persists in situ for centuries to millennia, and represents a legacy of past fires, potentially improving soil fertility and water holding capacity and selecting for the survival and recruitment of certain tree life-history (or successional) strategies. We investigated whether PyC is correlated with physicochemical soil properties, wood density, aboveground carbon (AGC) dynamics and forest resistance to severe drought. To achieve our aim, we used an Amazon-wide, long-term plot network, in forests without known recent fires, integrating site-specific measures of forest dynamics, soil properties and a unique soil PyC concentration database. We found that forests with higher concentrations of soil PyC had both higher soil fertility and lower wood density. Soil PyC was not associated with AGC dynamics in non-drought years. However, during extreme drought events (10% driest years), forests with higher concentrations of soil PyC experienced lower reductions in AGC gains (woody growth and recruitment), with this drought-immunizing effect increasing with drought severity. Forests with a legacy of ancient fires are therefore more likely to continue to grow and recruit under increased drought severity. Forests with high soil PyC concentrations (third quartile) had 3.8% greater AGC gains under mean drought, but 33.7% greater under the most extreme drought than forests with low soil PyC concentrations (first quartile), offsetting losses of up to 0.68 Mg C ha–1yr–1 of AGC under extreme drought events. This suggests that ancient fires have legacy effects on current forest dynamics, by altering soil fertility and favoring tree species capable of continued growth and recruitment during droughts. Therefore, mature forest that experienced fires centuries or millennia ago may have greater resistance to current short-term droughts.

6. Chemical Constituents from Leaves of Baccharis sphenophylla (Asteraceae) and Their Antioxidant Effects

Abstract: Baccharis is one of the largest genera of Asteraceae and its species are used in folk medicine for several medicinal purposes due to the presence of bioactive compounds. We investigated the phytochemical composition of polar extracts of B. sphenophylla. Using chromatographic procedures, diterpenoids (ent-kaurenoic acid), flavonoids (hispidulin, eupafolin, isoquercitrin, quercitrin, biorobin, rutin, and vicenin-2), caffeic acid, and chlorogenic acid derivatives (5-O-caffeoylquinic acid and its methyl ester, 3,4-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid, 4,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid, and 3,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid and its methyl ester) were isolated from polar fractions and are described. The extract, polar fractions, and fifteen isolated compounds were evaluated in relation to radical scavenging activity using two assays. Chlorogenic acid derivatives and flavonols exhibited higher antioxidant effects, confirming that B. sphenophylla is an important source of phenolic compounds with antiradical properties.

Abstract: Abstract Objectives Recently, defects in the protein kinase mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin) and its associated pathway have been correlated with hemimegalencephaly (HME). mTOR acts as a central regulator of important physiological cellular functions such as growth and proliferation, metabolism, autophagy, death, and survival. This study was aimed at identifying specific variants in mTOR signaling pathway genes in patients diagnosed with HME. Methods Using amplicon and whole exome sequencing (WES) of resected brain and paired blood samples from five HME patients, we were able to identify pathogenic mosaic variants in the mTOR pathway genes MTOR, PIK3CA, and DEPDC5. Results These results strengthen the hypothesis that somatic variants in PI3K‐Akt‐mTOR pathway genes contribute to HME. We also describe one patient presenting with a pathogenic variant on DEPDC5 gene, which reinforces the role of DEPDC5 on cortical structural changes due to mTORC1 hyperactivation. These findings also provide insights into when in brain development these variants occurred. An early developmental variant is expected to affect a larger number of cells and to result in a larger malformation, whereas the same variant occurring later in development would cause a minor malformation. Significance In the future, numerous somatic variants in known or new genes will undoubtedly be revealed in resected brain samples, making it possible to draw correlations between genotypes and phenotypes and allow for a genetic clinical diagnosis that may help to predict a given patient's outcome.

Abstract: A região Norte de Minas possui a produção de leite limitada, principalmente em função da seca, no entanto, esta é a base econômica da agricultura familiar que sustenta a região. Assim, realizou-se um estudo com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito do ambiente térmico sobre as respostas fisiológicas de vacas ¾ Holandês-Zebu, na região do semiárido mineiro a fim de se verificar a adaptabilidade destes animais. O experimento foi conduzido no verão e inverno, na fazenda Bela Vista localizada no município de Verdelândia (MG), onde foram avaliadas 10 vacas ¾ Holandês x Zebu (HxZ), em cada época. O ambiente térmico foi caracterizado por meio de medições diárias da temperatura do ar, umidade relativa do ar, índice de temperatura de globo e umidade e carga térmica radiante. Os parâmetros fisiológicos: frequência respiratória e cardíaca, temperatura de superfície corporal e temperatura retal, espessura, cor e densidade do pelame, e comprimento dos pelos foram mensurados antes da ordenha matutina, em função das estações do ano, diariamente, durante 15 dias. As variáveis e índices climáticos foram superiores no verão e no período da tarde. A frequência respiratória e a espessura do pelame não diferiram estatisticamente, no entanto as demais variáveis foram superiores no verão. As variáveis climáticas induziram diferenças nos parâmetros fisiológicos, mas foram assimiladas pelos animais, o que permite concluir que as vacas ¾ HxZ adaptam-se ao clima do semiárido mineiro sem manifestarem situação de estresse térmico.

9. Denosumab Related Osteonecrosis of Jaw: a Case Report

Abstract: Background: This case report shows an affected postmenopausal patient with medicaments related osteonecrosis of the jaw injury associated with increased use of bisphosphonates and Prolia® (denosumab) for the treatment of osteoporosis. The mechanism of action of the receptor activates the denosumab of the nuclear-kB factor binding and makes nuclear-kB Factor, reducing bone volume and reabsorption in the trabecular and cortical bones and, consequently, decreasing an incidence of fractures and maintaining a bone formation. The bone physiology regulated by the hormones calcitonin, parathormone and vitamin D also undergoes interference. Methods: The injury was located around a dental implant in region #24 and #25 and the patient complained of pain, bleeding, oedema, and halitosis for more than two months, that the dental implant had been installed five years before. According to the clinical findings, the patient presented the exposed and necrotic bone in the region of #24 and #25 and with the radiographs found, it was observed as extensive bone destruction adjacent to the dental implant. Results: Patient was referred to the maxillofacial surgeon that performed the removal of bone sequestration and dental implant in the region affected. After that, the patient has been accompanied for a year. Conclusions: Patients taking medications for osteoporosis or cancer need to receive special attention from the dentist. Invasive procedures on the jaw bone of patients taking these medications may cause osteonecrosis of the jaw. When diagnosed, osteonecrosis of the jaw should be treated surgically in conjunction with antibiotic therapy and patients should be monitored.

10. Analysis of Movements in Spinal Cord Hemisection Treatment with Amniotic Membrane – Preclinical Study

Abstract: Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of Amniotic Membrane application in rats with Spinal Cord Injury induced by transverse hemisection using kinematic analysis and Sciatic Functional Index. Study design: True experimental research design. Place and Duration of Study: Instiuto de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento (IP&D) of Universidade do Vale do Paraíba (UNIVAP), between September 2016 and December 2017. Methodology: Fifteen adult male rats were used, allocated into three equal groups: Control (the spinal cord injury and Amniotic Membrane application were simulated), Lesion (spinal cord injury not treated), Amniotic membrane (spinal cord injury treated by amniotic membrane). All animals underwent surgical procedures. A transverse hemisection was performed in groups Lesion and Amniotic Membrene. A fragment of the biomaterial was applied in group AM covering the hemisection area. Results: Sciatic Functional Index and motion analysis were performed by comparing images taken at pre- and postoperative time at 7, 14, 21, and 28 days. The kinematic analysis showed a significant difference between groups Control and Lesion at 7 days (p = 0.023) and 14 days (p = 0.015), and between groups Lesion and Amniotic Membrane at 14 days (p = 0.039), comparing the postoperative periods. The Sciatic Functional Index revealed significant differences between Groups Control and Lesion at 7 (p = -0.002), 14 (p = 0.003), and 21 days (p = 0.009), between Groups Control and Amniotic Membrane at 7 (p = 0.014), 14 (p = 0.007), and 28 days (p = 0; 013), and between Groups Lesion and Amniotic Membrane only at 14 days (p = 0.039). Conclusion: Application of amniotic membrane in spinal cord hemisection in rats induced gait recovery and improvement in SFI compared to the untreated group.

12. Influence of different systems of minimum ventilation on air quality in broiler houses Influência de diferentes sistemas de ventilação mínima na qualidade do ar de galpões para frangos de corte

Abstract: To maintain a competitive development of the Brazilian aviculture, some measures must be taken to enable the identification and reduction of risks to the health of birds, as well as for the physical environment. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of three different systems of minimum ventilation (positive pressure - SVMP, negative pressure - SVMN and natural ventilation - SVMNat) in the air quality during the first 21 days of life of broiler chicks, during winter. Three points were selected along the length to verify ammonia, carbon monoxide and oxygen concentrations at 3a.m., 9a.m., 3p.m. and 9p.m., by the respiration level of birds and workers. The averages of pollutant gases did not exceed the tolerance levels for the three minimum ventilation systems evaluated, which is 20 and 10ppm for the birds level and 20 and 39ppm for the workers level, for ammonia and carbon monoxide, respectively. It was evident that the minimum ventilation systems were appropriately sized for the required minimum ambient air renovation, in respect to ventilation rates applied for the SVMN and SVMP systems, and with air velocity at levels that do not stress the chicks, including for the SVMNat. The three studied systems of minimum ventilation allowed the birds to externalize their productive performance, with values close to the ones considered satisfactory for all evaluated parameters, in accordance with the Brazilian aviculture standards.Para a manutenção de um desenvolvimento competitivo da avicultura brasileira, demandam-se medidas que possibilitem a identificação e a redução de riscos à saúde das aves, bem como do meio físico ambiental. Sendo assim, objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar a eficiência de três diferentes sistemas de ventilação mínima (pressão positiva - SVMP, pressão negativa - SVMN e por via natural - SVMNat), na qualidade do ar durante os primeiros 21 dias de vida de pintos de corte, na fase de inverno. Foram selecionados três pontos ao longo do comprimento para a verificação das concentrações de amônia, monóxido de carbono e oxigênio nos horários de 3; 9; 15 e 21 h, ao nível da respiração das aves e dos trabalhadores. As médias dos gases poluentes não ultrapassaram os níveis de tolerância para os três sistemas de ventilação mínima avaliados, que são de 20 e 10 ppm para o nível das aves e 20 e 39 ppm no nível dos trabalhadores, para amônia e monóxido de carbono, respectivamente. Evidenciou-se que os sistemas de ventilação mínima foram dimensionados adequadamente em termos de renovação mínima necessária do ar ambiente, em relação às taxas de ventilação aplicadas para os dois sistemas, SVMN e SVMP, e com velocidade do ar em níveis não estressores aos pintinhos, inclusive para o SVMNat. Os três sistemas de ventilação mínima estudados possibilitaram às aves externar seu desempenho produtivo, com valores próximos aos considerados satisfatórios para os parâmetros avaliados, de acordo com os padrões da avicultura brasileira.

Abstract: Toxoplasma gondii is a zoonotic parasite which can infect almost all warm-blooded animals. Toxoplasma gondii isolates from Brazil have greater genetic diversity with a predominance of virulent and atypical genotypes, compared with the Northern Hemisphere. Considering that previous studies have demonstrated a high seroprevalence of T. gondii antibodies in animals from Fernando de Noronha Island, the aim of this study was to isolate, genetically characterize, and determine mouse virulence of isolates of T. gondii from livestock from this Brazilian island. Two T. gondii isolates were obtained by mouse bioassay from brain from one sheep and one pig. Genotyping was performed by PCR-RFLP using 10 genetic markers (SAG1, SAG2, SAG3, BTUB, GRA6, c22- 8, c29-2, PK1, L358, and Apico) and an atypical genotype of T. gondii (ToxoDB #146) was identified for both isolates. Genotyping of four ROP loci indicated different alleles for ROP16 and mouse virulence analysis revealed different profiles (intermediate and low virulence). This is the first report of this genotype being described in a pig and a sheep.

Abstract: O abastecimento de ração nos galpões avícolas pode ser feito de forma manual ou automática, e por demandar esforço acredita-se que o abastecimento manual pode expor o tratador a sobrecarga física. Desta forma, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os fatores ergonômicos, a postura adotada para a realização das atividades de manejo, bem como a influência na biomecânica dos trabalhadores atuantes em galpões avícolas equipados com comedouro tubular ou automático. Os fatores ergonômicos analisados foram: carga física de trabalho, ambiente térmico, análise postural e biomecânica. Verificou-se que, nos galpões onde o sistema de abastecimento de ração era tubular, os trabalhadores estiveram expostos a maior esforço físico. Baseado no ambiente térmico, o manejo foi considerado pesado para os dois sistemas de abastecimento. As posturas adotadas na maioria das atividades merecem ações corretivas imediatas. O manejo nos galpões equipados com comedouro tubular expõe os trabalhadores a risco de lesão no ombro, cotovelo, dorso, coxofemoral, joelho e tornozelo. Desta forma, pode-se concluir que o manejo em galpões avícolas equipados com comedouro tubular pode ser considerado prejudicial para o tratador, expondo-o a riscos de lesão no corpo.The feed supply in poultry houses can be done manually or automatically, to require effort is believed that manual supply could expose the attendant to physical overload. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the ergonomic factors, and effect on posture and biomechanics of workers in poultry houses equipped with manual or automatic feeder. The analyzed factors were: physical work load, thermal environment, noise, lighting, postural analysis and biomechanics. It was found that in the sheds where the food supply system was manual, workers were exposed to greater physical effort. Based on the thermal environment management it was considered heavy for the two supply systems. The postures used in most activities deserve immediate corrective action. The handling in sheds equipped with manual feeder exposes workers to risk of injury in the shoulder, elbow, back, hip, knee and ankle. Thus, it can be concluded that management in poultry facilities equipped with manual feeder can be considered detrimental to the attendant exposing him to health risks and body damage.

Abstract: The effect of hydrostatic pressure on the waveguiding properties of high birefringence photonic crystal fibers (HiBi PCF) is evaluated both numerically and experimentally. A fiber design presenting form birefringence induced by two enlarged holes in the innermost ring defining the fiber core is investigated. Numerical results show that modal sensitivity to the applied pressure depends on the diameters of the holes, and can be tailored by independently varying the sizes of the large or small holes. Numerical and experimental results are compared showing excellent agreement. A hydrostatic pressure sensor is proposed and demonstrated using an in-fiber modal interferometer where the two orthogonally polarized modes of a HiBi PCF generate fringes over the optical spectrum of a broad band source. From the analysis of experimental results, it is concluded that, in principle, an operating limit of 92 MPa in pressure could be achieved with 0.0003% of full scale resolution.

Abstract: Pocino, A., et al. (Euclid Collaboration), Photometric redshifts (photo-zs) are one of the main ingredients in the analysis of cosmological probes. Their accuracy particularly affects the results of the analyses of galaxy clustering with photometrically selected galaxies (GCph) and weak lensing. In the next decade, space missions such as Euclid will collect precise and accurate photometric measurements for millions of galaxies. These data should be complemented with upcoming ground-based observations to derive precise and accurate photo-zs. In this article we explore how the tomographic redshift binning and depth of ground-based observations will affect the cosmological constraints expected from the Euclid mission. We focus on GCph and extend the study to include galaxy-galaxy lensing (GGL). We add a layer of complexity to the analysis by simulating several realistic photo-z distributions based on the Euclid Consortium Flagship simulation and using a machine learning photo-z algorithm. We then use the Fisher matrix formalism together with these galaxy samples to study the cosmological constraining power as a function of redshift binning, survey depth, and photo-z accuracy. We find that bins with an equal width in redshift provide a higher figure of merit (FoM) than equipopulated bins and that increasing the number of redshift bins from ten to 13 improves the FoM by 35% and 15% for GCph and its combination with GGL, respectively. For GCph, an increase in the survey depth provides a higher FoM. However, when we include faint galaxies beyond the limit of the spectroscopic training data, the resulting FoM decreases because of the spurious photo-zs. When combining GCph and GGL, the number density of the sample, which is set by the survey depth, is the main factor driving the variations in the FoM. Adding galaxies at faint magnitudes and high redshift increases the FoM, even when they are beyond the spectroscopic limit, since the number density increase compensates for the photo-z degradation in this case. We conclude that there is more information that can be extracted beyond the nominal ten tomographic redshift bins of Euclid and that we should be cautious when adding faint galaxies into our sample since they can degrade the cosmological constraints.

Abstract: We present a new, updated version of the EuclidEmulator (called EuclidEmulator2), a fast and accurate predictor for the nonlinear correction of the matter power spectrum. Percent-level accurate emulation is now supported in the eight-dimensional parameter space of $w_0w_a$CDM$+\sum m_\nu$models between redshift $z=0$ and $z=3$ for spatial scales within the range 0.01 $h$/Mpc $\leq k \leq$ 10 $h$/Mpc. In order to achieve this level of accuracy, we have had to improve the quality of the underlying N-body simulations used as training data: (1) we use self-consistent linear evolution of non-dark matter species such as massive neutrinos, photons, dark energy and the metric field, (2) we perform the simulations in the so-called N-body gauge, which allows one to interpret the results in the framework of general relativity, (3) we run over 250 high-resolution simulations with $3000^3$ particles in boxes of 1 (Gpc/$h$)${}^3$ volumes based on paired-and-fixed initial conditions and (4) we provide a resolution correction that can be applied to emulated results as a post-processing step in order to drastically reduce systematic biases on small scales due to residual resolution effects in the simulations. We find that the inclusion of the dynamical dark energy parameter $w_a$ significantly increases the complexity and expense of creating the emulator. The high fidelity of EuclidEmulator2 is tested in various comparisons against N-body simulations as well as alternative fast predictors like Halofit, HMCode and CosmicEmu. A blind test is successfully performed against the Euclid Flagship v2.0 simulation. Nonlinear correction factors emulated with EuclidEmulator2 are accurate at the level of 1% or better for 0.01 $h$/Mpc $\leq k \leq$ 10 $h$/Mpc and $z\leq3$ compared to high-resolution dark matter only simulations. Abstract: Stanford, S. A., et al., The Complete Calibration of the Color–Redshift Relation (C3R2) survey is obtaining spectroscopic redshifts in order to map the relation between galaxy color and redshift to a depth of i ∼ 24.5 (AB). The primary goal is to enable sufficiently accurate photometric redshifts for Stage iv dark energy projects, particularly Euclid and the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope (Roman), which are designed to constrain cosmological parameters through weak lensing. We present 676 new high-confidence spectroscopic redshifts obtained by the C3R2 survey in the 2017B–2019B semesters using the DEIMOS, LRIS, and MOSFIRE multiobject spectrographs on the Keck telescopes. Combined with the 4454 redshifts previously published by this project, the C3R2 survey has now obtained and published 5130 high-quality galaxy spectra and redshifts. If we restrict consideration to only the 0.2 < zp < 2.6 range of interest for the Euclid cosmological goals, then with the current data release, C3R2 has increased the spectroscopic redshift coverage of the Euclid color space from 51% (as reported by Masters et al.) to the current 91%. Once completed and combined with extensive data collected by other spectroscopic surveys, C3R2 should provide the spectroscopic calibration set needed to enable photometric redshifts to meet the cosmology requirements for Euclid, and make significant headway toward solving the problem for Roman.

Abstract: Mammals are threatened worldwide, with ~26% of all species being included in the IUCN threatened categories. This overall pattern is primarily associated with habitat loss or degradation, and human persecution for terrestrial mammals, and pollution, open net fishing, climate change, and prey depletion for marine mammals. Mammals play a key role in maintaining ecosystems functionality and resilience, and therefore information on their distribution is crucial to delineate and support conservation actions. MAMMALS IN PORTUGAL is a publicly available data set compiling unpublished georeferenced occurrence records of 92 terrestrial, volant, and marine mammals in mainland Portugal and archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira that includes 105,026 data entries between 1873 and 2021 (72% of the data occurring in 2000 and 2021). The methods used to collect the data were: live observations/captures (43%), sign surveys (35%), camera trapping (16%), bioacoustics surveys (4%) and radiotracking, and inquiries that represent less than 1% of the records. The data set includes 13 types of records: (1) burrows | soil mounds | tunnel, (2) capture, (3) colony, (4) dead animal | hair | skulls | jaws, (5) genetic confirmation, (6) inquiries, (7) observation of live animal (8), observation in shelters, (9) photo trapping | video, (10) predators diet | pellets | pine cones/nuts, (11) scat | track | ditch, (12) telemetry and (13) vocalization | echolocation. The spatial uncertainty of most records ranges between 0 and 100 m (76%). Rodentia (n=31,573) has the highest number of records followed by Chiroptera (n=18,857), Carnivora (n=18,594), Lagomorpha (n=17,496), Cetartiodactyla (n=11,568) and Eulipotyphla (n=7008). The data set includes records of species classified by the IUCN as threatened (e.g., Oryctolagus cuniculus [n=12,159], Monachus monachus [n=1,512], and Lynx pardinus [n=197]). We believe that this data set may stimulate the publication of other European countries data sets that would certainly contribute to ecology and conservation-related research, and therefore assisting on the development of more accurate and tailored conservation management strategies for each species. 26. CVD growth and optical characterization of homo and heterobilayer TMDs

Abstract: The stacking of few layers of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) and their heterostructures allows us to create new structures, observe new physical phenomena, and envision new applications. Moreover, the twist angle in few-layer TMDs can significantly impact their electrical and optical properties. Therefore, controlling the TMD material and obtaining different stacking orientations when synthesizing TMDs via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is a powerful tool, which can add functionality to TMD-based optoelectronic devices. Here, we report on the synthesis of few-layer MoS[Formula: see text] and WS[Formula: see text] crystals, as well as their heterobilayer structures with [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] twist angles between layers via CVD. Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopies demonstrate the quality, crystallinity, and layer count of our grown samples, while second harmonic generation shows that adjacent layers grow with 0[Formula: see text] or 60[Formula: see text] twist angles, corresponding to two different crystal phases. Our study based on TMDs with different and multiple stacking configurations provides an alternative route for the development of future optoelectronic and nonlinear optical devices.

Abstract: Ilbert, O., et al. (Euclid Collaboration), The analysis of weak gravitational lensing in wide-field imaging surveys is considered to be a major cosmological probe of dark energy. Our capacity to constrain the dark energy equation of state relies on an accurate knowledge of the galaxy mean redshift ⟨ z⟩. We investigate the possibility of measuring ⟨ z»with an accuracy better than 0.002(1 + z) in ten tomographic bins spanning the redshift interval 0.2 99.8%. The zPDF approach can also be successful if the zPDF is de-biased using a spectroscopic training sample. This approach requires deep imaging data but is weakly sensitive to spectroscopic redshift failures in the training sample. We improve the de-biasing method and confirm our finding by applying it to real-world weak-lensing datasets (COSMOS and KiDS+VIKING-450)., H. 28. O geoturismo na Serra da Boa Viagem, Figueira da Foz: proposta de um percurso pedestre

Abstract: A Serra da Boa Viagem reúne um conjunto de elementos patrimoniais naturais e culturais que a tornam num interessante local para a promoção do geoturismo. Desde logo a sua localização geográfica privilegiada, bem como a geodiversidade e biodiversidade intrínsecas a um maciço calcário, para além da envolvente cultural e material da exploração dos seus recursos geológicos, tornam este maciço num local aprazível para rotas pedestres dirigidas ao público em geral, com uma oferta que pode ser diversificada e complementar ao turismo nas praias da região. O percurso pedestre proposto é um contributo para a valorização e sensibilização do património geológico da Serra da Boa Viagem, e para a sua promoção e divulgação científica e educativa, fundamentando-se num longo histórico de estudos sobre a geologia local e regional. A adoção de uma abordagem holística, integrando conceitos da biodiversidade, como também culturais, irá potenciar a maior atratividade do geoturismo, como também permitir aceder a um conhecimento integrado da natureza e do património deste maciço calcário. A Serra da Boa Viagem constitui, claramente, uma área com um potencial geoturístico importante, o qual poderá ser potenciado com a integração noutros circuitos turísticos e noutras valências turísticas do município da Figueira da Foz, mas também com a sua integração ao nível do turismo regional.

29. Thermoelastic pulsed laser ablation of silver thin films with organic metal–SiO2 adhesion layer in water: application to the sustainable regeneration of glass microfluidic reactors for silver nanoparticles

Abstract: The synthesis of metal nanoparticles (NPs) using microfluidic reactors has become a major method for limiting reagent consumption and achieve a precise control of the morphological properties. Failure in realizing the reproducibility of the results is mostly associated with the accumulation of metallic nanostructures on the walls of the microfluidic devices, periodically removed by acid treatment. In this study, we show that ns-pulsed laser ablation (PLA) in water can be a safe, effective, and green method for the regeneration of clogged microfluidic reactors. The effect of the laser-pulse fluence on the removal of metallic nanostructures was studied for the first time on silver (Ag) thin films with a thickness of 50 nm deposited over SiO2 substrates, using 3-mercaptopropyl trimethoxysilane as a chemical adhesion layer. As point of novelty, the experimental results show that at low fluence (F −2), ablation is principally caused by delamination of the thin film associated with the thermoelastic force while thermal processes inducing phase conversion of the metal dominate at higher fluence. Low-fluence regimes are better suited for the single-pulse removal of the nanomaterial, whereas in high F regimes, we observed melting and recondensation of the metal on the SiO2 surface so that multiple pulse interactions were necessary for complete ablation of the thin film. For the delamination and the phase transformation processes, the threshold fluences were 3.7 × 10−2 and 7.0 × 10−2 J cm−2, respectively. The experimental setup in the thermoelastic PLA regime was applied to unclog glass microfluidic devices used for synthesizing citrate-stabilized AgNPs. Using this simple and easily achievable laser-scanning experimental configuration, we demonstrated that PLA in water is a reliable and efficient technique, with results comparable to acidic treatment in terms of efficiency and time necessary for the complete removal of the Ag nanomaterial.

30. Morfometria de Plantios de Dipteryx odorata Aubl Willd (Cumaru) no Oeste do Pará

Abstract: A espécie Dipteryx odorata Aubl Willd (Cumaru) pertencente à família das leguminosas, tem se destacado entre as espécies florestais utilizadas em plantios silviculturais, fato justificado pelo seu potencial de produtos madeireiros e não madeireiros. Por essa razão o objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar as características morfométricas da espécie em diferentes arranjos florestais no oeste do Pará. Foram amostrados 5 sistemas localizados nos municípios de Alenquer, Belterra e Mojuí dos Campos, onde foram coletadas variáveis de 25 indivíduos, obtendo-se altura total, altura comercial, inserção de copa, diâmetro à altura do peito e diâmetro de copa. O sistema 3 (Cumaru e laranja) apresentou as maiores médias de Diâmetro a altura do Peito (14,1 cm ± 2,60 cm), Altura Total (9,88 m ± 1,69 m), Diâmetro de Copa (7,25 m ± 0,76 m), Comprimento de Copa (7,83 m ± 1,20), Área de copa (41,72 m2 ± 8,69) e Proporção de Copa de 75%. O Índice de Saliência mostrou que a espécie apresenta baixa taxa de crescimento, o Grau de Esbeltez indicou plantios instáveis, necessitando da adoção de desbastes. O sistema 2 (Cumaru, graviola, pimenta-do-reino, açaí e cupuaçu) apresentou os melhores valores de IMAh (1,94 m3), IMAd (1,64 cm), Inserção de copa (3,46 m ± 0,74 m), altura comercial (9,88 m ± 1,11 m), Formal de Copa (0,78) e Índice de Saliência (39,4). Os sistemas 2 e 3, foram considerados os mais produtivos pelas variáveis morfométricas, indicando que podem servir de modelos de arranjo para o plantio dessa espécie na região.

Abstract: Aims. The Euclid space telescope will measure the shapes and redshifts of galaxies to reconstruct the expansion history of the Universe and the growth of cosmic structures. The estimation of the expected performance of the experiment, in terms of predicted constraints on cosmological parameters, has so far relied on various individual methodologies and numerical implementations, which were developed for different observational probes and for the combination thereof. In this paper we present validated forecasts, which combine both theoretical and observational ingredients for different cosmological probes. This work is presented to provide the community with reliable numerical codes and methods for Euclid cosmological forecasts. Methods. We describe in detail the methods adopted for Fisher matrix forecasts, which were applied to galaxy clustering, weak lensing, and the combination thereof. We estimated the required accuracy for Euclid forecasts and outline a methodology for their development. We then compare and improve different numerical implementations, reaching uncertainties on the errors of cosmological parameters that are less than the required precision in all cases. Furthermore, we provide details on the validated implementations, some of which are made publicly available, in different programming languages, together with a reference training-set of input and output matrices for a set of specific models. These can be used by the reader to validate their own implementations if required. Results. We present new cosmological forecasts for Euclid. We find that results depend on the specific cosmological model and remaining freedom in each setting, for example flat or non-flat spatial cosmologies, or different cuts at non-linear scales. The numerical implementations are now reliable for these settings. We present the results for an optimistic and a pessimistic choice for these types of settings. Abstract: The present case report aims to make a discussion concerning oral manifestations in a patient with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19. Female patient, 20 years old, nursing technician, showed severe sore throat and headache without presence of fever. She tested positive for COVID-19 RT-PCR test in 2 episodes. She also showed lesions in the median lower lip semimucosa and severe pruritus, with a clinical course of 14 days, in which we performed a clinical diagnosis of herpes simplex infection. We need to be precise in terms of clinical appearance and possible relation with the disease, as the clinicians have access to the patients.

Abstract: In this work, we present a quantitative (statistical) 3D morphological characterization of optical fibers used in electric-field sensing. The characterization technique employs propagation-based x-ray phase-contrast microcomputed tomography (micro-CT). In particular, we investigate specialty optical fibers that contain microstructured holes that are electro-optically modified by thermal poling to induce second-order nonlinear effects (SONE). The efficiency of the SONE is reflected in the characterization parameter, Vπ , which is highly dependent on the dimensions of the fiber. The fiber microstructures must be uniform to support the fabrication of reproducible devices. The results obtained using the micro-CT technique show that uncertainty of ±1.7% arises in the determination of the expected value of the voltage that causes a change in the phase of the electromagnetic wave equal to π rad (Vπ ), demonstrating a great advantage, compared with other techniques e.g. SEM, which would need at least 1000 images of the cross-section of an optical fiber, taken at different points, making the process more expensive and time-consuming.

Abstract: Forthcoming large photometric surveys for cosmology require precise and accurate photometric redshift (photo-z) measurements for the success of their main science objectives. However, to date, no method has been able to produce photo-zs at the required accuracy using only the broad-band photometry that those surveys will provide. An assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of current methods is a crucial step in the eventual development of an approach to meet this challenge. We report on the performance of 13 photometric redshift code single value redshift estimates and redshift probability distributions (PDZs) on a common set of data, focusing particularly on the 0.2pdbl-pdbl2.6 redshift range that the Euclid mission will probe. We designed a challenge using emulated Euclid data drawn from three photometric surveys of the COSMOS field. The data was divided into two samples: one calibration sample for which photometry and redshifts were provided to the participants; and the validation sample, containing only the photometry to ensure a blinded test of the methods. Participants were invited to provide a redshift single value estimate and a PDZ for each source in the validation sample, along with a rejection flag that indicates the sources they consider unfit for use in cosmological analyses. The performance of each method was assessed through a set of informative metrics, using cross-matched spectroscopic and highly-accurate photometric redshifts as the ground truth. We show that the rejection criteria set by participants are efficient in removing strong outliers, that is to say sources for which the photo-z deviates by more than 0.15(1pdbl+pdblz) from the spectroscopic-redshift (spec-z). We also show that, while all methods are able to provide reliable single value estimates, several machine-learning methods do not manage to produce useful PDZs. We find that no machine-learning method provides good results in the regions of galaxy color-space that are sparsely populated by spectroscopic-redshifts, for example zpdbl> pdbl1. However they generally perform better than template-fitting methods at low redshift (zpdbl< pdbl0.7), indicating that template-fitting methods do not use all of the information contained in the photometry. We introduce metrics that quantify both photo-z precision and completeness of the samples (post-rejection), since both contribute to the final figure of merit of the science goals of the survey (e.g., cosmic shear from Euclid). Template-fitting methods provide the best results in these metrics, but we show that a combination of template-fitting results and machine-learning results with rejection criteria can outperform any individual method. On this basis, we argue that further work in identifying how to best select between machine-learning and template-fitting approaches for each individual galaxy should be pursued as a priority., GD and AG acknowledge the support from the Sinergia program of the Swiss National Science Foundation. Abstract: We report a simple and fast microwave-assisted method to grow silver nanoparticle films with tunable plasmon resonance band. Microwaving time controls nucleation and growth as well as particle agglomeration, cluster formation, particle morphology, and the plasmonic properties. Films produced with times shorter than 30 s presented a single well-defined plasmon resonance band (~ 400 nm), whereas films produced with times longer than 40 s presented higher wavelength resonances modes (> 500 nm). Plasmon band position and intensity can be easily tuned by controlling microwaving time and power. SEM and AFM images suggested the growth of asymmetrical silver nanoparticles. Simulated extinction spectra considering particles as spheres, hemispheres, and spherical caps were performed. The films were employed to enhance the sensitivity of ionizing radiation detectors assessed by optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) via plasmon-enhanced luminescence. By tuning the plasmon resonance band to overlap with the OSL stimulation (530 nm), luminescence enhancements of greater than 100-fold were obtained, demonstrating the importance of tuning the plasmon resonance band to maximize the OSL intensity and detector sensitivity. This versatile method to produce silver nanoparticle films with tunable plasmonic properties is a promising platform for developing small-sized radiation detectors and advanced sensing technologies.

Abstract: This is a report on the status and prospects of the quantification of neutrino properties through the cosmological neutrino background for the Cosmic Frontier of the Division of Particles and Fields Community Summer Study long-term planning exercise. Experiments planned and underway are prepared to study the cosmological neutrino background in detail via its influence on distance-redshift relations and the growth of structure. The program for the next decade described in this document, including upcoming spectroscopic galaxy surveys eBOSS and DESI and a new Stage-IV CMB polarization experiment CMB-S4, will achieve sigma (sigma*mass(sub v)= 16 meV and sigma (Effective number of neutrino species) = 0.020. Such a mass measurement will produce a high significance detection of non-zero sigma*mass(sub v), whose lower bound derived from atmospheric and solar neutrino oscillation data is about 58 meV. If neutrinos have a minimal normal mass hierarchy, this measurement will definitively rule out the inverted neutrino mass hierarchy, shedding light on one of the most puzzling aspects of the Standard Model of particle physics - the origin of mass. This precise a measurement of Neff will allow for high sensitivity to any light and dark degrees of freedom produced in the big bang and a precision test of the standard cosmological model prediction that the effective number of neutrino species = 3.046.

Abstract: Fluctuations in the intensity and polarization of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and the large-scale distribution of matter in the universe each contain clues about the nature of the earliest moments of time. The next generation of CMB and large-scale structure (LSS) experiments are poised to test the leading paradigm for these earliest moments-the theory of cosmic inflation-and to detect the imprints of the inflationary epoch, thereby dramatically increasing our understanding of fundamental physics and the early universe. A future CMB experiment with sufficient angular resolution and frequency coverage that surveys at least 1% of the sky to a depth of 1 uK-arcmin can deliver a constraint on the tensor-to-scalar ratio that will either result in a 5 sigma measurement of the energy scale of inflation or rule out all large-field inflation models, even in the presence of foregrounds and the gravitational lensing B-mode signal. LSS experiments, particularly spectroscopic surveys such as the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument, will complement the CMB effort by improving current constraints on running of the spectral index by up to a factor of four, improving constraints on curvature by a factor of ten, and providing non-Gaussianity constraints that are competitive with the current CMB bounds.

Abstract: A região Norte de Minas possui a produção de leite limitada, principalmente em função da seca, no entanto, esta é a base econômica da agricultura familiar que sustenta a região. Assim, realizou-se um estudo com o objetivo de avaliar o efeito do ambiente térmico sobre as respostas fisiológicas de vacas ¾ Holandês-Zebu, na região do semiárido mineiro a fim de se verificar a adaptabilidade destes animais. O experimento foi conduzido no verão e inverno, na fazenda Bela Vista localizada no município de Verdelândia (MG), onde foram avaliadas 10 vacas ¾ Holandês x Zebu (HxZ), em cada época. O ambiente térmico foi caracterizado por meio de medições diárias da temperatura do ar, umidade relativa do ar, índice de temperatura de globo e umidade e carga térmica radiante. Os parâmetros fisiológicos: frequência respiratória e cardíaca, temperatura de superfície corporal e temperatura retal, espessura, cor e densidade do pelame, e comprimento dos pelos foram mensurados antes da ordenha matutina, em função das estações do ano, diariamente, durante 15 dias. As variáveis e índices climáticos foram superiores no verão e no período da tarde. A frequência respiratória e a espessura do pelame não diferiram estatisticamente, no entanto as demais variáveis foram superiores no verão. As variáveis climáticas induziram diferenças nos parâmetros fisiológicos, mas foram assimiladas pelos animais, o que permite concluir que as vacas ¾ HxZ adaptam-se ao clima do semiárido mineiro sem manifestarem situação de estresse térmico.

Abstract: Polycrystalline Zn2TiO4 samples with Mn2+ doping level of 0%, 0.1%, 1.0%, and 5.0% have been produced by conventional solid-state method and their optical and structural properties investigated. Rietveld refinement of x-ray diffraction patterns revealed the formed phases and the crystallographic parameters. The chemical composition was obtained by x-ray fluorescence measurements. The optical properties were studied by photoluminescence, excitation, reflectance, and photoacoustic spectroscopy. All measurements were performed at room temperature. The photoluminescence spectrum of the pure sample (0% Mn2+) showed a band in the red region associated with Zn2TiO4, while the sample with 0.1% Mn2+ exhibited two bands, in the green and red spectral regions, assigned to Mn2+ ions at tetrahedral and octahedral sites. No emission was observed for the samples with 1.0% or 5.0% Mn2+. The excitation results for the sample with 0.1% Mn2+ ions showed characteristic peaks of Mn2+ transitions. Tanabe–Sugano theory was used to obtain the crystal field Dq, B, and C Racah parameters from the energy peak positions in the excitation spectrum of the sample with 0.1% Mn2+. Photoacoustic measurements revealed a broad band, characteristic of semiconductor materials, hiding the Mn2+ transitions.

Abstract: The MgO-SiO 2 system with small quantities of MnCO 3 was produced by solid-state reaction at high temperature. The crystallographic phases and the amounts of components were determined by X-ray diffraction measurements. Emission and excitation spectra of samples with Mn replacing 1% and 5% of Mg in mass were obtained at room temperature. The photoluminescence spectra showed a broad band between 580 nm and 800 nm assigned to transitions of Mn 2+ in octahedral sites and a narrow emission at 610 nm, overlapped to the broad band, attributed to Mn 4+ ions in octahedral sites.

46. Synthesis and Characterization of MoS2/WS2 Heterostructures by Second Harmonic Generation

Abstract: Monolayers of MoS 2 and WS 2 , as well as their vertical heterostructures, were synthesized via chemical vapor deposition. The samples were then characterized via microRaman and micro-photoluminescence spectroscopies, and by second harmonic generation (SHG). SHG confirms that the layers in bilayers and heterostructures grow with ~0o (or ~60o) relative twist angle. Interestingly, SHG is observed in MoS 2 bilayers, indicating a deviation from the centrosymmetric 2H phase.

Abstract: In this work, we systematically investigated the spectral analysis of the random laser action of Rhodamine6G (Rh6G) in Ethylene Glycol (EG) solution with cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) as scatters to provide random feedback. A random laser (RL), different form a conventional Fabry Perot cavity laser, bases the optical feedback on scattering processes in a nano or submicron structured media, where the gain media is appropriately pumped to supply the necessary elements for laser emission [1]. Also, another RL architecture was investigated, where the CNCs+Rh6G composite was placed on a glass slide substrate, which introduced a 4% feedback half-cavity. Fig 1 shows SEM images of cellulose flakes and CNCs rods, which were produced according literature [2]. The RL spectral emission from the NCF+Rh6G (15mg/mL CNCs) suspension is shown in Fig 2a, where the spectrum for different excitation energies, strongly reduced from 50.6 nm to 5.6 nm at its full width at half maximum (FWHM).

Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the frequency of Neospora caninum antibodies in rodents from the Island of Fernando de Noronha, Brazil, and to contribute to epidemiological data on neosporosis in this region. Blood samples were collected from 154 black-rats (Rattus rattus) and 12 rock-cavies (Kerodon rupestris). The search for anti-N. caninum antibodies was made using the NAT technique, with a cut-off of 1:20. The frequency of positive mice was 5.19% (8/154 - 1:20 titer) and all rock-cavies were negative. The low frequency of antibodies against N. caninum in rodents found in the Island shows the low contamination of the environment where these animals live.

Abstract: In modern weak-lensing surveys, the common approach to correct for residual systematic biases in the shear is to calibrate shape measurement algorithms using simulations. These simulations must fully capture the complexity of the observations to avoid introducing any additional bias. In this paper we study the importance of faint galaxies below the observational detection limit of a survey. We simulate simplified Euclid VIS images including and excluding this faint population, and measure the shift in the multiplicative shear bias between the two sets of simulations. We measure the shear with three different algorithms: a moment-based approach, model fitting, and machine learning. We find that for all methods, a spatially uniform random distribution of faint galaxies introduces a shear multiplicative bias of the order of a few times $10^{-3}$. This value increases to the order of $10^{-2}$ when including the clustering of the faint galaxies, as measured in the Hubble Space Telescope Ultra-Deep Field. The magnification of the faint background galaxies due to the brighter galaxies along the line of sight is found to have a negligible impact on the multiplicative bias. We conclude that the undetected galaxies must be included in the calibration simulations with proper clustering properties down to magnitude 28 in order to reach a residual uncertainty on the multiplicative shear bias calibration of a few times $10^{-4}$, in line with the $2\times10^{-3}$ total accuracy budget required by the scientific objectives of the Euclid survey.
