A prospective study on haemato-biochemical aspects of canine atopic dermatitis was conducted in the Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy during the period from 2019 to 2021. Sixteen dogs diagnosed with atopic dermatitis using characteristic clinical (Favrot’s) criteria with exclusion of other pruritic skin diseases, together with elevated Ig E levels and ten healthy animals formed the subjects for the present study. Whole blood samples were collected from atopic and healthy controls and haematobiochemical parameters were estimated. Haemato-biochemical studies of atopic dogs revealed anaemia with leukocytosis, neutrophilia and eosinophilia and hypoalbuminaemia with reduced AG ratio. Absolute eosinophil count that was found positively correlated with neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in atopic dogs, is of diagnostic significance in quantifying inflammatory response which helps in instituting customized treatment to atopic animals in clinical practice. Hypoalbuminaemia observed in atopic animals in the present study indicates the need for nutrient supplementation in the therapeutic protocol of the disease.

Allergic dermatitis is an inflammatory skin disease manifested as itchy skin rashes, caused as a result of hypersensitivity reactions elicited in the body due to exposure to various allergens. Canine atopic dermatitis (CAD) is a widespread skin condition characterized by an inherited propensity to develop pruritic inflammatory skin disease linked to IgE antibodies, which usually target environmental allergens. The study was conducted on 245 cases of allergic dermatitis in dogs presented to the small animal dermatology unit during the period from 2019 to 2021. Out of the total 2,032 dermatological cases in dogs presented to the clinics from different parts of Kerala, 245 cases were diagnosed as various allergies over a period of three years, and out of which, 63 cases were recorded as canine atopic dermatitis (CAD). All the 63 cases diagnosed as CAD were utilized for age-wise, gender-wise and breed-wise occurrence of disease. The occurrence of allergic dermatitis in the present study was recorded as 13 per cent. The highest occurrence rate recorded was that of flea allergy followed by atopic dermatitis, contact allergy dermatitis and food allergy. In the current study, higher incidence (66.7 per cent) of atopic dermatitis was found in dogs below 3 years of age, followed by dogs older than 5 years and of the age group >3 to 5 years. Gender-wise occurrence of atopic dermatitis revealed a male predominance with a sex ratio of 1.74: 1 in the present study. Labrador breed of dogs were more prone to atopic dermatitis followed by Beagle, Pomeranian, Shih Tzu, Pug, Pit bull, German Shepherd dog, Dachshund, Rottweiler and Golden Retriever.

In this work, the influence of silane treatment on characterization of Ipomoea staphylina plant fiber composites reinforced with epoxy matrix are studied. The silane treated I. staphylina fiber reinforced composites (ISFRCs) are fabricated through hand layup and compression molding methods. The composites are subjected to characterization techniques, such as tensile strength, flexural strength, thermo-gravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction studies, and field emission scanning electron microscopy analysis. Results revealed that the silane treatment has a significant influence on characterization of ISFRCs.

In this experimental work, the influence of Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) powder on thermo-mechanical, water absorption, and morphological properties of Tindora (Coccinia grandis) tendrils fiber-reinforced epoxy composites is investigated. The Coccinia grandis fibers (CGFs) were extracted from tendrils of the Tindora plant, and composites with and without Haritaki powder (HP) are fabricated by using hand layup and compression molding techniques. The mechanical strengths, water absorption studies, and the characterization techniques such as thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction studies, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy studies are conducted. From the results, it is found that the mechanical strengths of the HP filled C. grandis fiber-reinforced composites (HPCGFRCs) are 14.26–26.59% higher than that of those without HP composites. The maximum weight gain percentages of CGFs and their composites due to water absorption varied between 6.32% and 10.63%. Findings of the experiments reveal that the inclusion of HP has a significant influence on the properties of CGFRCs and ascertained that HP could be the potential nanofiller formost of the polymer matrix composites.

The high-strength materials fabricated from biodegradable resources are in demand due to their renewable nature, lightweight, and environmental friendliness. The current experimental investigation aims to examine the influence of Vachellia nilotica subsp. indica tree trunk bark nano-powder on properties of milkweed fiber-reinforced polymer composites (MFPCs). The composites were prepared by compression molding method, and the properties such as mechanical strength and water absorption behavior were analyzed; differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observation were also carried out. Results revealed that the inclusion of V. indica tree trunk nano-powder had a considerable effect on the properties of MFPCs, and it could act as an impending nano-filler for the polymer matrix composites.

Two-dimensional (2D) nano-materials have provided attraction for many researchers in the innovation of viable routes for large scale synthesis, doping and integration of mono-layers and the development of unique materials with excellent properties. Graphene-based 2D nano-materials are promising agents for several biosensor and bioelectronics applications due to their intriguing properties. In this review, a detailed discussion on preparation, synthesis, properties, and characterization of graphene and graphene-based 2D nano-materials focusing on bioelectronics and biosensors has been carried out and the findings have been provided. Discussions relating to the current review might provide motivation for the future researchers to perform more studies on graphene-based 2D nano-materials and explore more applications in such a way that it can be used as cost effective alternative for the conventional materials. Further this review provides the critical over look on this topic, highlighting the major unexplored areas which require future investigation.

Ripe Bulrush fibers (RBFs) is one of the grass fibers that have the potential to replace synthetic fibers. This work focuses on the effect of alkalization on characterization of Ripe Bulrush fiber-reinforced composites (RBRCs). The composites are fabricated by compression molding process and the characterization techniques such as Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR) spectroscopy analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies, Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis, Thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) studies have been carried out. From the results, it is found that the significant improvement in properties and more thermal stability due to the alkalization.

The discussion in this paper gives several theorems and lemmas on the Sums of Squares of consecutive Carol Numbers. These theorems are proved by using the definition of carol numbers and mathematical induction method. Here the matrix form and the recursive form of sum of squares of consecutive Carol numbers is also given. The properties of the Carol numbers are also derived.

Dimensionality reduction of hyperspectral images plays a vital role in remote sensing data analysis. The rapid advances in hyperspectral remote sensing has brought in a lot of opportunities to researchers to come up with advanced algorithms to analyse such voluminous data to better explore earth surface features. Modern machine learning algorithms can be applied to explore the underlying structure of high dimensional hyperspectral data and reduce the redundant information through feature extraction techniques. Limited studies have been carried out on dimensionality reduction for mineral exploration. The current study mainly focuses on the application of autoencoders for dimensionality reduction and provides a qualitative (visual) analysis of the obtained representations. The performance of autoencoders are investigated on Cuprite scene. Coranking matrix is used as evaluation criteria. From the obtained results it is evident that, deep autoencoders provide better results compared to single layer autoencoders. An increase in the number of hidden layers provides a better embedding. The neighborhood size K ≥ 40 of deep autoencoders provides a better transformation compared to autoencoders which shows an improved embedding only after K ≥ 80.

Six Ehrlichia canis positive dogs with limb oedema were selected and routine haematobiochemical observations were made. All other possible causes of limb oedema were ruled out by orthopaedic examination of the limbs, thoracic radiography, ECG and abdominal ultrasonography. Histopathological results of skin biopsy from oedematous limbs were suggestive of cutaneous vasculitis. All the dogs were treated with doxycycline per os and in addition, prednisolone was administered to the vasculitic dogs. All the dogs responded to therapy and oedema subsided within a week.

Twenty five immune mediated haemolytic anaemia cases confirmed by saline agglutination test and Coombs’ test werevstudied for bone marrow response on the dayvof presentation. Giemsa stained blood smearsvwere examined to determine presence of anyvhaemoparasites. Fresh whole blood sample collected were mixed with equal quantity of newvmethylene blue stain and smears were prepared. Reticulocyte count was estimated manually and expressed in percentage, absolute reticulocyte count and corrected reticulocyte percentage. About fifty six per cent of immune mediated haemolytic anaemia dogs showed regenerative anaemia on day of presentation. Results showed that immune mediated haemolytic anaemia had reticulocytosis and thus regenerative response. A reticulocyte count after five days of presentation is recommended to avoid false diagnosis of non-regenerative anemia and this may guide in considering pure red cell aplasia and non-regenerative immune mediated haemolytic anaemia in the differential diagnosis for immune mediated haemolytic anaemia.

Canine Monocytic Ehrlichiosis (CME) due to Ehrlichia canis is frequently reported as a cause of morbidity and mortality among dogs. This small pleomorphic gram-negative coccoid bacterium appears intracytoplasmic within monocytes and macrophages in clusters of organisms called morulae. The organism was initially identified in dogs by Donetein and Lestoquard in Algeria in 1935. These microorganisms are known as an etiologic factor of infections worldwide in humans and in different species of animals according to Hotopp et al. (2006). This work focused on the analysis of various gene expression-based cancer subtype classification approaches. Correctly classifying cancer subtypes is critical for understanding cancer pathophysiology and effectively treating cancer patients by using gene expression data to categorize cancer subtypes. When dealing with limited samples and high-dimensional biological data, most classifiers may suffer from overfitting and lower precision. The goal of this research is to develop a machine learning (ML) system capable of classifying human cancer subtypes based on gene expression data in cancer cells. These issues can be solved using ML algorithms such as Transductive Support Vector Machines (TSVM), Boosting Cascade Deep Forest (BCD Forest), Enhanced Neural Network Classifier (ENNC), Deep Flexible Neural Forest (DFN Forest), Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), and Cascade Flexible Neural Forest (CFN Forest). This article presents a study conducted in a teaching hospital in Telangana, India, which aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of pharmacovigilance (PV) and adverse drug reactions (ADR) awareness among healthcare students. The study found that medical undergraduates had a good understanding and positive attitude towards PV, while nursing students had lower levels of knowledge and a negative attitude. The study also revealed that only a third of encountered ADRs were reported. The findings emphasize the need for initiatives to address these disparities and improve the reporting culture among healthcare students to enhance patient safety. [Extracted from the article]

Introduction: Medical undergraduates in India are being selected to learn medicine by putting them to vigorous training in schools to clear highly competitive exams that requires hard work, dedication and knowledge. Such students after joining MBBS, most of them don't fair well in internal examinations being conducted in their respective departments, both in theory and practicals. Among those who pass the subjects are not expected to have a thorough understanding of the subject. This study aims to assess the perspective of first year MBBS students on learning their syllabus. Methodology: Students who had just finished first year MBBS from different medical colleges were asked to fill a feedback form comprised of questions regarding their perspective of learning first MBBS syllabus. Results: 15.9% of students opined that they studied the syllabus only to pass the examination whereas 84% of students studied the subjects to lay strong foundation of medicine. Conclusion: Through this study we concluded that there are students who study MBBS for the sake of only passing the exam instead of acquiring sound knowledge in the field.
