Abstract Background Long COVID patients have experienced a decline in their quality of life due to, in part but not wholly, its negative emotional impact. Some of the most prevalent mental health symptoms presented by long COVID patients are anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders. As such, the need has arisen to analyze the personal experiences of these patients to understand how they are managing their daily lives while dealing with the condition. The objective of this study is to increase understanding about the emotional well-being of people diagnosed with long COVID. Methods A qualitative design was created and carried out using 35 patients, with 17 participants being interviewed individually and 18 of them taking part in two focus groups. The participating patients were recruited in November and December 2021 from Primary Health Care (PHC) centers in the city of Zaragoza (Northern Spain) and from the Association of Long COVID Patients in Aragon. The study topics were emotional well-being, social support networks, and experience of discrimination. All an inductive thematic content analyses were performed iteratively using NVivo software. Results The Long COVID patients identified low levels of self-perceived well-being due to their persistent symptoms, as well as limitations in their daily lives that had been persistent for many months. Suicidal thoughts were also mentioned by several patients. They referred to anguish and anxiety about the future as well as a fear of reinfection or relapse and returning to work. Many of the participants reported that they have sought the help of a mental health professional. Most participants identified discriminatory situations in health care. Conclusions It is necessary to continue researching the impact that Long COVID has had on mental health, as well as to provide Primary Health Care professionals with evidence that can guide the emotional treatment of these patients

Introduction The use/abuse of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) has become a topic of great interest in recent years. With advances in technology, today’s population spends a great deal of screen time (ST) making watching television (TV), using computers, smartphones, or playing video games a central component of their daily lives. These studies have analyzed the psychological impact of technological exposure or abuse, such as aggressive behaviors, anxiety, depression and other mental problems. Objectives The main objective of this study is to explore the differences between men and women and the abusive use of social networks, technologies, pathological gambling and other addiction problems in primary care. Methods This study is an observational study conducted within the framework of primary care in the Spanish region of Aragon. The population of the study were participants of 35-74 years old, had been receiving care from the Aragon Health Service. Recruitment is shown at figure 1. Sociodemographic, quality of life, personal factors on health behaviour, social support, lifestyle patterns and chronic comorbid pathology variables were collected during the period 2021–2023. The project was approved by the Clinical Research Ethics Committee of Aragon Nº PI20/302. The comparisons by sex were carried out using a Student T-test or chi squared test to analyse differences. Results There are significant differences in the abuse of new technologies between men and women. 25.20% of men (CI 95% 18.26-33.25) compared to 13.41% of women (CI 95% 8.85-19.25) make abusive use of the Internet, with statistically significant differences. In the same way, men present greater abuse of video games (6.25% of men (CI 95% 3.0-11.45) compared to 3.05% of women (CI 95% 1.17-6.55). Analysing the differences by sex in dependence if it is an urban or rural population. Significant differences in the abuse of new technologies between men and women are present in the urban population, while in the rural population these differences are not observed Image: Conclusions Gender modifies the ways in which technologies are used, so that men have a more problematic use of video games and the Internet than women. On the other hand, in relation to emotional symptoms, it was observed that women presented more anxiety and less satisfaction with life than men. The evaluation of abuse of new technologies cts should be incorporated into health services to improve people’s ability their self-care, the level of knowledge of managing their disease and their physical, mental and social health. Within the Cultural Heritage documentation field, this contribution illustrates the adopted methods for the first digital documentation of the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere in Rome.The research activity carried out included the survey of this historic building as well as direct and indirect research connected with its transformations. The tested workflow illustrates the relevance of the activities carried out in terms of knowledge implementation, conservation, monitoring, and dissemination of tangible and intangible aspects of this layered religious architecture.

The Maritime Colonies are an important part of Italy's cultural heritage buildings. The research focuses attention on a survey with an Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), using photogrammetry to determine features such as dimensions, object shape, volumes, areas, distances, elevations, and set up the reconstruction of a digital model of the Varese Colony, located in Milano Marittima, in the province of Ravenna. To digitize this structure, it was necessary to use a camera network capable of creating nadir and oblique images with different baselines. The proposed method has proven convincing in real-world application because of its workability, easy implementation, area coverage, and can be used in a wide range of applications on artifacts of many different morphologies.

The paper describes an operational working methodology to be applied for surveys with phase-shift laser scanning, which allows defining a guidelines system to optimize in-field data collection. While reducing the number of scan positions still using the same quality, it is possible to obtain smaller files, in order to limit the computational requirements during editing and post-production. Nonetheless, this methodology guarantees results that are qualitatively comparable to the standard data collection process. Consequently, the angle ranges have been analyzed to find a value that guarantees for the survey a point cloud lighter and more manageable and, at the same time, that maintains a reasonable accuracy. Subsequently, two parameters were defined, “redundancy” and “closeness”, to find an operational process that allows to schematize what is usually achieved with the help of experience in the field: to evaluate the minimum number of scan points that can ensure the necessary overlap for optimal coverage of the entire building surveyed. After defining the study of the ideal situation, the model is applied in a case study, situated in a densely built context, typical of European historical urban centers: the main façade of the G. Ciamician Institute of Chemistry of the University of Bologna (Italy).

The aim of the proposal is to illustrate how expeditious procedures of urban survey carried out through photomodeling can be the most suitable representation tool in combination with an expeditious procedure for assessing the seismic vulnerability of the historic building heritage in Italian city centres. For some years, in fact, the research group is developing a protocol for the rapid assessment of the seismic vulnerability of masonry aggregate buildings in Italian historic centres.The protocol is based on the determination of synthetic indicators providing a preventive quantification of the possible earthquake damage. This evaluation procedure is oriented to prevent and reduce the current vulnerability, aiming at the conservation and preservation of the historic building heritage. The synthetic indicators are defined by identifying expeditious evaluation procedures based on the typical evolutionary processes suffered by each aggregate in its planimetric and height development, on the construction techniques and on the design concepts used in the local area; these aspects are directly correlated to failure modes.The application of the entire process (starting from the rapid survey phases up to the final restitution of the seismic vulnerability assessment results) is illustrated for the historic centre of Imola. The ancient nucleus of this city constitutes an excellent example, as it is clearly representative of the Emilian historical architecture both for the processes of formation and transformation of the inhabited area, both for what concerns the constructive characterization deriving from the local building traditions.

The aim of this research is the rediscovery of one of Giuseppe Vaccaro's architectural masterpieces thanks to the use of the contents obtained from the survey that was carried out, useful for its architectural representation; the selected building is the Agip colony, which is located on the beach of Cesenatico. The three-dimensional photogrammetry, a science that uses photography as a source of measurement, will be investigated as a method for graphic and metric representation, with the aim to study, in this particular case, the elements composing the facade of this architectural work of the '30s, through the last software born of the Agisoft family, Metashape.

The article deals with the topic of Historic Building Information Modeling (H-BIM) applied to the historical architecture of an urban park within the Itabashi district of Tokyo. The document will address a methodological discussion concerning the construction of parametric models of historic buildings in the park starting from laser scanner. The research is prompted by the modern need to have databases full of exhaustive information, through which we can preserve the historical heritage present in the Japanese reality, monitoring the conditions and planning the future. This work is carried out in collaboration with the Nihon University of Tokyo, the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, the Itabashi municipality and the Topcon industry. The work is preparatory for the development of the redevelopment project of the park, through the reuse of its buildings, the arrangement of the green and urban furniture pursuing the objectives of maintaining the historical memory of the place and its harmonization in the urban context, creating a further pole of attraction for citizens and visitors.

The research treats the application of technologies related with augmented and virtual reality to architectural and historical context in the city of Havana, Cuba, on the basis of historical studies and Range-Imaging techniques on buildings bordering old city’s five main squares. The specific aim is to transfer all of the data received thanks to the most recent mobiles apps about Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual reality (VR), in order to give birth to an innovative App never seen before in Cuba. The “Oficina del Historiador de la ciudad de La Habana”, institution supervising architectural and cultural asset in Cuba, is widely interested in the topic in order to develop a new educational, cultural and artistic tool to be used both online and offline.

This article deepens the subject of photo-modelling applied to architecture, on a medium and large scale and it shows all the possibilities to apply the last technologies of augmented reality and virtual reality to the historical and architectural contest of Havana City in Cuba. The context was quite unsuitable to our project because of different and complex reasons. The need to minimize the size of the tools, their weight and cost. Minimize the time of survey and photographic shot on site. To face the difficulties given by the continuing presence of a chaotic influx of people disturbing the work. Not least the difficulty of having a limited number of daily hours available to carry out photographic shots that requires special lighting conditions. This article describes the necessary steps to obtain a 3D dimensional textured model from reality through a photographic set.

BACKGROUND The Tuscany’s FADOI society proposes the role of internal medicine in a new model of hospital care. The cornerstones of this new model are the “care intensity” and the “department”. We propose that hospital care should be organized so that the patient and his needs represent the core of this care system, in accordance with the idea of the progressive patient care. This aim can be obtained by dividing the hospital’s areas for intensity of care and, therefore, going beyond the present model of hospital care, where the patients are treated in specialty divisions. This new model of care may find its own execution within the department. For medical area, the department of medicine undoubtedly offers a strong multidisciplinary integration and favours the organization for intensity of care. The management of a large amount of patients should be left to the internist. In fact, because of his olistic formation, this clinician seems more appropriate than the other specialists to play this role. The specialists will take care of those patients who suffer from disturbances with a strong specialistic characterization, and in other cases acting as consultants. CONCLUSIONS In Tuscany we can now view various experiences which are trying to experiment this model. Results are encouraging. Starting from these results and greatly believing in them, we offer this contribute to the internists who work in hospital, persuaded to draw from them useful matters for discussion.

BACKGROUND Early warning scores based on simple physiological variables were originally derived to recognize the impending patients’ clinical deterioration and to prevent in-hospital deaths. However, they can also be used to allocate patients on admission. The hypothesis of a previously validated model, the Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS) was tested. It could be used as a stratifying tool to identify medical patients whose baseline physiological measures predict a worse outcome, in order to assign them to an appropriate care level (e.g., High Dependence Units, special areas etc.). METHODS We considered all patients admitted to Internal Medicine wards over a week period, without any exclusion criteria. On admission, we calculated the MEWS and a 28-variables original Dependence Index (DI). The main outcomes of the study were: in-hospital mortality and a composite of mortality and admission to a higher care level (namely, transfer to ICU, Coronary Care Unit, CCU, or Emergency Medicine). A secondary end-point was the length of stay for discharged patients. RESULTS 22 Internal Medicine wards participated in the study. 597 patients were admitted, 329 females (55.4%; 95% CI 51.3-59.4) and 265 males (44.6%; 95% CI 40.6-48.7; female to male ratio was 1.24; p < 0.05). Women were older (mean age 76.2 years) than men (73.3 years); a large proportion of patients (509/597 or the 85.2%) were 65 or older. 522 patients were discharged, 44 died and 31 were transferred. The MEWS on admission predicted both death (Chi2 for trend 59.391, p < 0.00001) and the death and transfer composite end-point (Chi2 for trend 55.339; p < 0.00001); the DI worked well, too (risk of death, Chi2 for trend 53.052; p < 0.00001; risk of death or transfer, Chi2 for trend 66.030; p < 0.00001). These results were not influenced by either the wards dimensions or the hospitals complexity. CONCLUSIONS In this multicentric study we have confirmed that the MEWS, even when calculated once on admission, is a simple but highly useful tool to predict a worse in-hospital outcome.

Cancer is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality. Environmental factors along with lifestyle: tobacco and alcohol consumption, unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical activity, are some of the risk factors that have caused an increase in cancer. Invasive species pose a threat to the ecological balance of the ecosystems they invade by altering local host-pathogen dynamics. To investigate these relationships and their potential consequences, we examined the prevalence and genetic diversity patterns of Trypanosomatidae, Lipotrophidae, and Nosematidae in a collection of sympatric isolates of the invasive hornet Vespa velutina and local Hymenoptera from two recently colonized areas: Europe and South Korea. Data were gathered through PCR amplification and massive parallel sequencing, and analyses were conducted using population genetics tools. Parasite prevalences showed substantial variation depending on (i) the parasite family (Trypanosomatidae and Nosematidae were the most and less prevalent, respectively), (ii) location (e.g. Galicia displayed the highest pooled values), (iii) the season (highest in spring for Trypanosomatidae and Lipotrophidae), and (iv) the host. V. velutina exhibited significantly lower parasite occurrence than native Hymenoptera across all parasite families (consistent with the enemy release hypothesis), although this difference was less pronounced during the periods of heightened predatory activity, suggestive of trophic transmission. Parasite species displayed significant genetic differentiation between European and South Korean isolates, yet no differentiation was observed across hosts, suggesting that all Hymenoptera are exposed to a common local pathogen population. The genus Vairimorpha was proposed for several species of Nosema in 1976 (Pilley, 1976), almost 70 years after Nosema apis Zander (Zander, 1909). Tokarev and colleagues proposed the redefinition of 17 microsporidian species in four genera, Nosema, Vairimorpha, Rugispora, and Oligosporidium, based on phylogenetic trees of two genetic markers (SSU rRNA and RPB1) (Tokarev et al., 2020). We present an automatic road incident detector characterised by a low computational complexity for easy implementation in affordable devices, automatic adaptability to changes in scenery and road conditions, and automatic detection of the most common incidents (vehicles with abnormal speed, pedestrians or objects falling on the road, vehicles stopped on the shoulder, and detection of kamikaze vehicles). To achieve these goals, different tasks have been addressed: lane segmentation, identification of traffic directions, and elimination of unnecessary objects in the foreground. The proposed system has been tested on a collection of videos recorded in real scenarios with real traffic, including areas with different lighting. Self-adaptability (plug and play) to different scenarios has been tested using videos with significant scene changes. The achieved system can process a minimum of 80 video frames within the camera's field of view, covering a distance of 400 m, all within a span of 12 s. This capability ensures that vehicles travelling at speeds of 120 km/h are seamlessly detected with more than enough margin. Additionally, our analysis has revealed a substantial improvement in incident detection with respect to previous approaches. Specifically, an increase in accuracy of 2-5% in automatic mode and 2-7% in semi-automatic mode. The proposed classifier module only needs 2.3 MBytes of GPU to carry out the inference, thus allowing implementation in low-cost devices.

Trypanosomatids form a group of high prevalence protozoa that parasitise honey bees, with Lotmaria passim as the predominant species worldwide. However, the knowledge about the ecology of trypanosomatids in isolated areas is limited. The Portuguese archipelagos of Madeira and Azores provide an interesting setting to investigate these parasites because of their geographic isolation, and because they harbour honey bee populations devoid of two major enemies: Varroa destructor and Nosema ceranae. Hence, a total of 661 honey bee colonies from Madeira and the Azores were analysed using different molecular techniques, through which we found a high prevalence of trypanosomatids despite the isolation of these islands. L. passim was the predominant species and, in most colonies, was the only one found, even on islands free of V. destructor and/or N. ceranae with severe restrictions on colony movements to prevent the spread of them. However, islands with V. destructor had a significantly higher prevalence of L. passim and, conversely, islands with N. ceranae did not shown any significant correlation with the trypanosomatid. Crithidia bombi was detected in Madeira and on three islands of the Azores, almost always coincident with L. passim. By contrast, Crithidia mellificae was not detected in any sample. A high-throughput sequencing analysis distinguished two main haplotypes of L. passim, which accounted for 98% of the total sequence reads.
