Introducción: el lupus eritematoso sistémico (LES) es una enfermedad sistémica que se ha asociado a mayor severidad con la infección por SARS-CoV-2. Particularmente la alta actividad de la enfermedad y algunos inmunosupresores se han vinculado a peores desenlaces. Objetivos: describir las características por SARS-CoV-2 en pacientes con LES en Argentina del registro SAR-COVID y establecer los factores asociados a peor desenlace de la misma. Materiales y métodos: estudio observacional. Se incluyeron pacientes con diagnóstico de LES con infección confirmada por SARS-CoV-2 (RT-PCR y/o serología positiva) del registro SAR-COVID. Los datos se recolectaron desde agosto de 2020 hasta marzo de 2022. El desenlace de la infección se midió mediante la escala ordinal de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (EO-OMS). Se definió COVID-19 severo con un valor EO-OMS ≥5. Análisis descriptivo, test T de Student, U de Mann Whitney U, ANOVA, chi2 y Fisher. Regresión logística múltiple. Resultados: se incluyeron 399 pacientes, el 93% de sexo femenino, con una edad media de 40,9 años (DE 12,2). El 39,6% tenía al menos una comorbilidad. Al momento de la infección, el 54,9% recibía glucocorticoides, el 30,8% inmunosupresores y el 3,3% agentes biológicos. La infección por SARS-CoV-2 fue leve en la mayoría de los casos, mientras que un 4,6% tuvo curso severo y/o falleció. Estos últimos presentaban comorbilidades, usaban glucocorticoides y tenían síndrome antifosfolípido (SAF) con mayor frecuencia y mayor actividad de la enfermedad al momento de la infección. En el análisis multivariado, la hipertensión arterial, el diagnóstico de SAF y el uso de glucocorticoides se asociaron a hospitalización severa y/o muerte por COVID-19 (EO-OMS ≥5). Conclusiones: en esta cohorte de pacientes con LES con infección por SARS-CoV-2 confirmada, la mayoría cursó de manera sintomática, un 22,1% fue hospitalizado y un 5% requirió ventilación mecánica. La mortalidad fue cercana al 3%. El diagnóstico de SAF, tener hipertensión arterial y el uso de glucocorticoides se asociaron significativamente con COVID-19 severo.

This work evaluates the bio-waste valorization approach for catalyst development, the use of products derived from biomass as raw material and the production of biofuels. In this research activated carbons were synthesized from orange peel using different synthesis conditions. With the activated carbons obtained with the best structure and texture, PtIr bimetallic catalysts were prepared. Carbon activation was carried out through a chemical process with phosphoric acid as an activating agent, varying acid concentration, substrate/activating agent ratio and time of contact between them. The best support was obtained using carbonization time of 1 h, carbonization temperature of 470 °C, phosphoric acid concentration of 50 wt % and with BET area of 1429 m2/g. Subsequently, the metallic nanoparticles were deposited in the activated carbon to use the solid as a catalytic material for the hydrogenation of HMF to 2,5-DMF. The catalyst showed excellent performance for the generation of biofuels.

[EN] Catalytic transformation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to produce 2,5-dimethylfuran (2,5-DMF) was studied over bimetallic (PtIr) and monometallic (Pt) catalysts supported on CMK-3 and SBA-15 mesoporous materials. The optimum temperature and hydrogen pressure for the maximum production of 2,5-DMF were 120 degrees C and 15 atm, respectively. Increases in temperature and pressure decreased the selectivity to 2,5-DMF. The catalysts were broadly characterized by different techniques, such as XRD, N-2-isotherms, XPS, TPR, TEM and NH3-TPD. It was found that the metallic particles were well reduced and highly dispersed on the surface of supports having large surface area and narrow pore size distribution. The PtIr alloy species catalytic sites were very active and selective towards the formation of the desired 2,5-DMF. Ir-supported SBA-15 was studied in the hydrodenitrogenation (HDN) of quinoline as a model nitrogen compound. The activity was improved when Si-SBA-15 support was modified with Ga and Al. Characterization of the catalysts was performed by XRD, N2 adsorption, XPS, H2 chemisorption, TEM, TPR, NMR and Py-FTIR. Dispersion and nature of the iridium species are dependent parameters on the support characteristics. Better activity for the elimination of the nitrogen atom was observed with Ir-Ga-SBA-15 as compared to Ir-Al-SBA-15 at 250 and 300 °C. However, the TON value for Ir-Al-SBA-15 was higher than Ir-Ga-SBA-15 at 300 °C, indicating the influence of the stronger Bronsted acidity in the elimination of the nitrogen atom at higher temperature. The enhanced activity was attributed to the particularly good dispersion of the iridium catalytic centers and to the synergic effect of Bronsted and Lewis acid sites, derived from Ga or Al incorporation. Ga-SBA-15 with 1 wt.% of iridium loading was the most active catalyst for HDN of quinoline. 95% of nitrogen elimination was attained at short time in mild conditions. The reusability of the catalyst presents it as potential catalyst for HDN process.

Ti-CMK-3 carbon mesoporous was prepared using a novel synthesis method. This new method avoids the hard template synthesis used commonly. The method developed here, allows to reduce time, energy consumptionand cost. Structural and textural characterization of the titanium modified-mesoporous carbonwas performed by N2 adsorption, XRD, UV–vis-DRS, Raman spectroscopy and TEM. The characterization results indicated that the textural and structural properties of the material synthesized by the short time method are comparable with the properties of the material prepared by the hard template method. Ti modified-mesoporous carbon was used as support of the iridium nanoparticles, in order to prepare a catalyst to be tested in model hydrotreating reactions. The catalyst obtained by wet impregnation with iridium acetylacetonate were characterized by ICP-AES, H2 chemisorption, TEM, XPS and FTIR of adsorbed pyridine. The high Ir dispersion and small particle size, along with the moderate Lewis acidity generated by the presence of titanium in the support, were responsible for the good performance and stability of the catalyst in the hydrogenation of tetralin in presence of nitrogen compounds. Main advantage of the present study is the reduction of time and cost in the synthesis of the new material and the applicability for HDT reactions.

BackgroundPersistent symptoms after acute COVID have been described previously. Main symptoms reported are fatigue, arthralgias, myalgias and mental sickness. Definition and methods vary widely.1ObjectivesTo asses prevalence and related factors to long COVID in a retrospective cohort of patients with rheumatic diseases from Argentina.MethodsA total of 1915 patients were registered from August 18th, 2020 to July 29th, 2021. Patients > 18 years old, with rheumatic disease and confirmed infection by SARS-CoV-2 (antigen or RT-PCR) were included. Those dead, with unknown outcome, wrong date or missing data were excluded. Demographic data, comorbidities, rheumatic disease, and characteristics of SARS-CoV-2 infection were recorded.Long COVID was defined according to NICE guidelines (persistent symptoms for more than 4 weeks, without alternative diagnosis). Long COVID symptoms were defined by rheumatologist. Severity of infection was classified according to WHO ordinal scale.We used descriptive statistics, univariate model (Student’s test, chi square test, ANOVA) and multivariate logistic regression analysis.Results230 (12%) had long COVID. Median age was 51 (IQR 40-61]) years, 82% were females, 51% were not caucasian. Median of education was 13.3 years (IQR 12 – 16), 79 % had private health insurance and 55 % were employed. Nearly half (n=762, 46%) had comorbidities, the most prevalent was hypertension (n=396, 24%).The most frequent rheumatic diseases were rheumatoid arthritis (n=719, 42%) and systemic lupus erythematosus (n=280, 16 %). Most were in low activity/remission (79%), used Conventional DMARD (n=773 patients, 45%) and steroids (n=588, 34%) at low dose (n=415, 71%).Main laboratory findings were abnormal D-dimer (n=94, 28%) and leukopenia (n=93, 26%). Most patients had a WHO ordinal scale < 5 (n=1472, 86%). Median of hospitalization at intensive care unit (ICU) was 8 days [IQR 5, 13]. Treatment for SARS-CoV-2 infection (steroids, anticoagulation, azithromycin, convalescent plasma) was used in 461 (27%) patients.Most of long COVID (n= 152, 69%) reported 1 symptom, the most frequent was fatigue (n= 55, 22%). Aerobic methanotrophy is strongly controlled by copper, and methanotrophs are known to use different mechanisms for copper uptake. Some methanotrophs secrete a modified polypeptide-methanobactin-while others utilize a surface-bound protein (MopE) and a secreted form of it (MopE*) for copper collection. As different methanotrophs have different means of sequestering copper, competition for copper significantly impacts methanotrophic activity. Herein, we show that Methylomicrobium album BG8, Methylocystis sp. strain Rockwell, and Methylococcus capsulatus Bath, all lacking genes for methanobactin biosynthesis, are not limited for copper by multiple forms of methanobactin. Interestingly, Mm. album BG8 and Methylocystis sp. strain Rockwell were found to have genes similar to mbnT that encodes for a TonB-dependent transporter required for methanobactin uptake. Data indicate that these methanotrophs "steal" methanobactin and such "theft" enhances the ability of these strains to degrade methylmercury, a potent neurotoxin. Further, when mbnT was deleted in Mm. album BG8, methylmercury degradation in the presence of methanobactin was indistinguishable from when MB was not added. Mc. capsulatus Bath lacks anything similar to mbnT and was unable to degrade methylmercury either in the presence or absence of methanobactin. Rather, Mc. capsulatus Bath appears to rely on MopE/MopE* for copper collection. Finally, not only does Mm. album BG8 steal methanobactin, it synthesizes a novel chalkophore, suggesting that some methanotrophs utilize both competition and cheating strategies for copper collection. Through a better understanding of these strategies, methanotrophic communities may be more effectively manipulated to reduce methane emissions and also enhance mercury detoxification in situ.

In this conceptual paper, I embark on answering the question “is there a more nuanced way of helping postsecondary leaders, practitioners, and policy makers understand the gravity of addressing and confronting issues of campus climate?” In response, I propose that it may prove useful when framing issues of campus climate to complicate binary descriptions of climate as “chilly/welcoming” and “positive/negative,” and instead embrace the analogy of health. While the adoption of a metaphor of healthy campus climate is not novel per se, it remains under-theorized. As such, this paper aims to contribute to the conversation around diversity and campus climate by suggesting that a health metaphor applied to the study of campus climate is apropos and helps humanize the experiences of historically minoritized bodies in higher education.

BackgroundHigh disease activity, treatment with glucocorticoids (GC) and rituximab (RTX), have been related to worse outcomes of COVID-19.ObjectivesTo assess the clinical characteristics and severity of the SARS-CoV-2 infection in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) included in the SAR-COVID registry and to identify factors associated with poor outcomes.MethodsSAR-COVID is a national, longitudinal and observational registry. Patients of ≥18 years old, with diagnosis of RA (ACR-EULAR criteria 2010) who had confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection (RT-PCR or positive serology) were included between 13-8-20 and 31-7-21. Sociodemographic and clinical data, comorbidities, disease activity and treatment at the moment of the SARS-CoV-2 infection were collected. Additionally, infection symptoms, complications, medical interventions and treatments for COVID-19 were registered. Infection severity was assessed using the WHO-ordinal scale (WHO-OS)1. A cut-off value of ≥5 identified patients with severe COVID-19 and those who died.Statistical analysis: Descriptive statistics. Chi2 or Fischer test, Student T test or Mann-Whitney and Kruskal Wallis or ANOVA, as appropriate. Multiple logistic regression model.ResultsA total of 801 patients were included, with a mean age of 53.1 ± 12.9 years, most of them were female (84.5%) and the median (m) disease duration was 8 years (IQR 4-14). One third were in remission and 46.4% had comorbidities, being the most frequent, hypertension (26.9 %), dyslipidemia (13.5 %), obesity (13.4 %) and diabetes (8.9%). Moreover, 3.2% had interstitial lung disease (ILD) associated with RA. At SARS-CoV-2 diagnosis, 42.5% were receiving glucocorticoids (GC), 73.9% conventional (c) disease modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARD), 24% biologic (b) DMARD and 9.1% targeted synthetic (ts) DMARD. Among bDMARD, the most frequently used were TNF inhibitors (17%), followed by abatacept (2.8%), IL-6 inhibitors (2.4%) and rituximab (RTX) (2.1%). During the SARS-CoV-2 infection, 95.8% had symptoms, 27% required hospitalization, 7.9% presented complications and 4.4% died due to COVID-19. The development of effective vaccines against fungal infections requires the induction of protective, pathogen-specific cell mediated immune responses. Here, we asked whether combination adjuvants based on delta inulin (Advax) formulated with TLR agonists could improve vaccine protection mediated by a fungal recombinant protein, Bl-Eng2, which itself harbors an immunodominant antigen and Dectin-2 agonist/adjuvant. We found that Bl-Eng2 formulated with Advax3 containing TLR9 agonist or Advax8, containing TLR4 agonist, provided the best protection against pulmonary infection with Blastomyces dermatitidis, being more effective than Freund’s complete adjuvant or Adjuplex. Advax3 was most efficient in inducing IFN-γ and IL-17 producing antigen-specific T cells that migrated to the lung upon Blastomyces dermatitidis infection. Mechanistic studies revealed Bl-Eng2/Advax3 protection was tempered by neutralization of IL-17 and particularly IFN-γ. Likewise, greater numbers of lung-resident T cells producing IFN-γ, IL-17, or IFN-γ+ and IL-17+ correlated with fewer fungi recovered from lung. Protection was maintained after depletion of CD4+ T cells, partially reduced by depletion of CD8+ T cells, and completely eliminated after depletion of both CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. We conclude that Bl-Eng2 formulated with Advax3 is promising for eliciting vaccine-induced antifungal immunity, through a previously uncharacterized mechanism involving CD8+ and also CD4+ T cells producing IFN-γ and/or IL-17. Although no licensed vaccine exists as yet against any fungal disease, these findings indicate the importance of adjuvant selection for the development of effective fungal vaccines.IMPORTANCEFungal disease remains a challenging clinical and public health problem. Despite medical advances, invasive fungal infections have skyrocketed over the last decade and pose a mounting health threat in immune-competent and -deficient hosts with worldwide mortality rates ranking 7th, even ahead of tuberculosis. The development of safe, effective vaccines remains a major hurdle for fungi. Critical barriers to progress include the lack of defined fungal antigens and suitable adjuvants. Our research is significant in identifying adjuvant combinations that elicit optimal vaccine-induced protection when formulated with a recombinant protective antigen and uncovering the mechanistic bases of the underlaying vaccine protection, which will foster the strategic development of anti-fungal vaccines.

Ti-CMK-3 carbon mesoporous was prepared using a novel synthesis method. This new method avoids the hard template synthesis used commonly. The precursors of silicon, carbon and titanium are incorporated together with the other components during the only step of the synthesis. The method developed here, allows reducing time and energy consumption by 60% and thus, the cost of the overall process of synthesis. Structural and textural characterization of the titanium modified-mesoporous carbon was performed by N2 adsorption, XRD, UV–Vis-DRS, XPS, Raman spectroscopy and TEM. The characterization results indicated that the textural and structural properties of the material synthesized by the short time method are comparable with the properties of the material prepared by the hard template method. Ti modified-mesoporous carbon was synthesized by different methods in order to prepare catalysts to be tested in the oxidative desulfurization (ODS) of sulfur compounds. The catalyst prepared by the one-pot method is capable to oxidize high amount of sulfur (2000 ppm) in only 30 min of reaction time at 60–80 °C. The good performance and stability of the catalyst prepared using a novel synthesis method was attributed to well dispersed anatase nanospecies over the high area mesoporous carbon. Main advantage of the present study is the reduction of time and cost in the synthesis of the new material and the applicability for ODS reactions.

The effect of a second porous SiO2 shell in the activity and selectivity of the Fe3O4@SiO2&ndash, Pt catalyst in the hydrodenitrogenation of indole is reported. The double Fe3O4@SiO2&ndash, Pt@SiO2 structure was prepared by coating Fe3O4 nanoparticles with tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) with a further impregnation of 1.0 wt.% of Pt on the (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane functionalized Fe3O4@SiO2 structures. The second porous SiO2 shell, obtained by using a hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) template, covered the Fe3O4@SiO2&ndash, Pt catalyst with a well-defined and narrow pore-sized distribution. The full characterization by TEM, inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), XRD, and N2 adsorption isotherm at 77 K and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) of the catalysts indicates homogeneous core@shell structures with a controlled nano-size of metallic Pt. A significant effect of the double SiO2 shell in the catalytic performance was demonstrated by both a higher activity to eliminate the nitrogen atom of the indole molecule present in model liquid fuel and the improvement of the catalytic stability reaching four consecutive reaction cycles with only a slight conversion level decrease.

This experiment was conducted to determine if the 3 most commonly used water sanitizers in commercial broiler chicken production affected the stability of enrofloxacin (ENR), when each was administered concurrently with ENR to broiler chickens via the drinking water. To that effect, the in vitro antibacterial activity of the solution of each ENR-sanitizer product (ESP) was compared to that of ENR alone. Also, bioavailability (F) studies of ESP were carried out in chickens and compared to the corresponding values of ENR in drinking water without sanitizer. Water sanitizers tested were iodine (as iodine-polyvinylpyrrolidone), chlorine (as sodium hypochlorite), and a citrate-based sanitizer from grapefruit extract. They were mixed with ENR in sterile de-ionized water, and the resulting substances were regarded as ESP. Then, the referred studies of ESP were carried out. Results showed that ESP of ENR/sodium hypochlorite decreased both the antimicrobial activity, as well as maximum serum concentration (Cmax) and F of ENR in chickens. ESP of ENR/citrate-based sanitizer increased both the in vitro antimicrobial activity and Cmax and F values of ENR at the 2 highest concentrations tested. ESP of ENR/iodine reduced both in vitro antimicrobial activity and Cmax values of ENR at the highest concentrations tested. This study demonstrated that interactions between water sanitizers and ENR must be considered when medicating chickens via the drinking water to meet pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics ratios. The use of a citrate-based sanitizer is recommended, as relative F was increased.

By focusing on the U.S. Military’s support of affirmative action in recent affirmative action cases, this conceptual paper posits that there are lessons to be learned from the Military by postsecondary scholars, practitioners, and policy-makers who support race-conscious policies in higher education. This suggestion rests on two points: First, the Military’s explicit focus and reasoning for diversifying its leadership corps, and second, the Military’s explicit race-conscious approach to racial integration. Monometallic Pt- and bimetallic Pt-Ir-modified Ti-SBA-15 were used in the hydrogenation of tetralin to decalin in the presence of 150 ppm of N as quinoline and indole at 250 °C and 15 atm of pressure of hydrogen, using a Parr reactor. The catalyst was synthesized using sol-gel method and Ti was added during the synthesis using Tetraethyl Orthotitanate. Pt/Ir was added by wetness impregnation. The catalysts prepared were extensively characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2 adsorption isotherms, UV–vis-DRS, Raman spectroscopy, XPS, TEM-EDS and TPR. UV–vis-DRS and Raman spectroscopy confirmed that Ti was incorporated in tetrahedral coordination in the framework of the SBA-15. The analysis showed that the mesoporous structure was maintained after metal incorporation and Ti incorporation helps to reduce significantly the size of the metals clusters and improves its dispersion considerably. Pt-Ir/Ti-SBA-15 was the most active catalyst. The experimental data were quantitatively represented by a modified Langmuir-Hinshelwood type rate equation. Iridium catalyst was prepared using a novel titanium oxide-CMK-3 support synthesized as a replica of Ti-SBA-15. The catalyst was applied in the hydrodenitrogenation of indole. The activity was compared with an iridium catalyst supported over a grafted titanium-CMK-3. Structural and textural characterization of the catalysts was performed by means of N2 adsorption, XRD, UV–Vis–DRS, Raman spectroscopy, XPS, TEM and H2 Chemisorption. Ir-Ti-CMK-3 was the most active catalyst for the hydrodenitrogenation reaction at mild conditions. Titanium oxide contained in carbon ordered mesoporous CMK-3 promotes a very good anchorage of iridium metallic clusters in the carbon framework reaching high active site distribution and more stable nanoclusters. Carbon ordered mesoporous CMK-3 with high surface area and high pore volume promotes a very good dispersion of Pt or Ir monometallic and Pt-Ir-bimetallic crystallites in the carbon framework. High active and stable nanospecies are responsible for the good activity and selectivity found in the hydrogenation of tetralin to decalin in the presence of N as indole and S as dibenzothiophene under mild conditions in a Batch reactor. The catalysts prepared were extensively characterized by XRD, N2 adsorption isotherms, XPS, TEM, ICP, CO Chemisorption and TPR. The analysis showed that the carbon mesoporous structure was maintained after metal incorporation, and very high dispersed metal-supported catalyst was obtained. The activity was compared using the turnover number, Pt-Ir-CMK-3 being the most active catalyst in the presence of the inhibitors. The bimetallic catalyst showed more resistance to inhibition than monometallic catalysts. The reusability of Pt-Ir-CMK-3 suggests that it is a potential catalyst for hydrotreating reactions.

The hydrodenitrogenation of indole has been studied over a series of Ti-modified SBA-15 supports and their respective Ir-catalysts. Ti-SBA-15 was synthesized using sol-gel method and Ti was added during the synthesis using Tetraethyl Orthotitanate. Iridium was added by wetness impregnation. The acidity of Ti-SBA-15 was modified adding F or Al in order to improve the catalytic activity. The catalysts prepared were extensively characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N 2 adsorption isotherms, UV–vis-DRS, Raman spectroscopy, 27 Al-MAS-NMR spectroscopy, XPS, TEM-EDS, Py-FTIR, H 2 -Chemisorption and TPR. UV–vis-DRS and Raman spectroscopy confirmed that Ti was incorporated in tetrahedral coordination in the framework of the SBA-15. The analysis showed that the mesoporous structure was maintained after F or Al incorporation. 27 Al-MAS-NMR spectroscopy indicated that aluminum was incorporated mainly in Td positions. The results showed that Ti incorporation helps to reduce significantly the size of iridium crystallites and improves its dispersion considerably. Ir/Ti-SBA-15 modified with Al, with Bronsted acidity, was the most active catalyst for indole HDN, in mild conditions in a Batch reactor. The experimental data for indole hydrodenitrogenation was quantitatively represented by a Langmuir–Hinshelwood type rate equation.

Experiment design-response surface methodology (RSM) is used in this work to model and optimize two responses in the hydrogenation of tetralin to decalin using bimetallic Ir-Pt-SBA-15 catalyst. In this study, we analyze the influence of the nature of the catalyst (metal molar fraction and metal loading), the catalyst/substrate ratio and the temperature of the reaction as factors for the design. The responses analyzed were conversion at 3 h and at 5 h of reaction time. The response surfaces were obtained with the Box-Behnken design, finding the best combination between the reaction parameters that allowed optimizing the process. By applying the statistic methodology, the higher levels of the two objective functions were obtained employing the catalyst with 1 wt.% of iridium and 0.7-0.8 wt.% of platinum; the optimal ratio between mass of catalyst and mole of tetralin was 17-19 g/mol and temperature between 200 and 220 °C. Using the stress-buffering hypothesis as a guide, this integrative review aims to identify how human resource development (HRD) professionals can address the issues faced by working women who are experiencing postpartum depression symptoms, in addition to identifying gaps in HRD research on this emerging topic. Most of the studies reviewed came from the nursing and psychology literature; none were found in the HRD literature. This review was undergirded by the stress-buffering hypothesis, which posits that social support can moderate the effect of a stressful event. Studies pointed to social support, especially from coworkers and supervisors, as having a positive effect on postpartum depression symptom scores. Overall, the findings of this study are entry points into HRD research and practice about how employers can support working women who are experiencing postpartum depression symptoms. Further research should examine the type of social support that is effective in helping working mothers.

ResumenAntecedentesLa forma de obtener el consentimiento informado es variable, por lo que el objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar el nivel de conocimientos sobre la colonoscopia comparando 2 modalidades de consentimiento.Materiales y métodosEstudio observacional, transversal y comparativo realizado en pacientes sometidos a colonoscopia en un hospital público (grupo A) y en un hospital privado (grupo B). El grupo A recibió información verbal por un médico e impresa y el grupo B solo impresa. Una o 2 semanas después se realizó una encuesta telefónica.ResultadosSe incluyó a 176 sujetos (grupo A n=55 y grupo B n=121). El 69.88% (n=123) de los pacientes tenían nivel educativo universitario, el 23.29% (n = 41) nivel educativo secundario, el 5.68% (n=10) nivel educativo primario completo y los restantes (n=2) no habían completado estudios. El 100% conocía las características y el 99.43% los beneficios del procedimiento. El 97.7% recibió información sobre complicaciones, el 93.7% nombró alguna y el 25% (n=44) recordó complicaciones mayores. Todos respondieron, recibieron y leyeron el consentimiento informado antes del estudio. This article examines the development of Critical Race Theory (CRT) in education, paying attention to how researchers use CRT (and its branches) in the study of K-12 and higher education. The article reviews CRT literature with a focus on CRT scholarship that offers tools to engage with and work against racism within education. The authors highlight works that embody the critical origins of CRT in both the law and elsewhere, with a goal of demonstrating that CRT work means more than just pointing to race. It requires an engagement and articulation with the material, structural, and ideological mechanisms of White supremacy.

A novel mathematical procedure to codify chiral features of organic molecules in the QuBiLS-MIDAS framework is introduced. This procedure constitutes a generalization to that commonly used to date, where the values 1 and -1 (correction factor) are employed to weight the molecular vectors when each atom is labelled as R (rectus) or S (sinister) according to the Cahn-Ingold-Prelog rules. Therefore, values in the range [Formula: see text] with steps equal to 0.25 may be accounted for. The atoms labelled R or S can have negative and positive values assigned (e.g. -3 for an R atom and 1 for an S atom, or vice versa), opposed values (e.g. -3 for an R atom and 3 for an S atom, or vice versa), positive values (e.g. 3 for an R atom and 1 for an S atom) or negative values (e.g. -3 for an R atom and -1 for an S atom). These proposed Chiral QuBiLS-MIDAS 3D-MDs are real numbers, non-symmetric and reduced to 'classical' (non-chiral) QuBiLS-MIDAS 3D-MDs when symmetry is not codified (correction factor equal to zero). In this report, only the factors with opposed values were considered with the purpose of demonstrating the feasibility of this proposal. From QSAR modelling carried out on four chemical datasets (Cramer's steroids, fenoterol stereoisomer derivatives, N-alkylated 3-(3-hydroxyphenyl)-piperidines, and perindoprilat stereoisomers), it was demonstrated that the use of several correction factors contributes to the building of models with greater robustness and predictive ability than those reported in the literature, as well as with respect to the models exclusively developed with QuBiLS-MIDAS 3D-MDs based on the factor 1 | -1. In conclusion, it can be stated that this novel strategy constitutes a suitable alternative to computed chirality-based descriptors, contributing to the development of good models to predict properties depending on symmetry.

The interaction of 3 water sanitizers (sodium hypochlorite, iodine-polyvinylpyrrolidone, and citrate) utilized in poultry production on antibacterial activity and bioavailability of amoxicillin trihydrate (AMX) were studied. Sanitizers were mixed with AMX in prepared water, the resulting substances were regarded as amoxicillin-sanitizer products (ASP). First, the in vitro antibacterial activity of each ASP was compared to that of AMX. Then, pharmacokinetics (PK) of ASP and AMX diluted in prepared water, were carried out in broiler-chickens. Amoxicillin or ASP (20 mg/kg) from different concentrations of sanitizers was directly placed into the chicken's crop and blood samples were taken. Basic PK parameters were obtained. Serum activity/concentrations of AMX were assessed by agar diffusion and corroborated with high performance liquid chromatography. Results show that ASP of AMX/sodium hypochlorite decrease both, the antimicrobial activity of in vitro AMX and its relative bioavailability (Fr) assessed with the maximum serum concentration (Cmax), the area under the concentration-time curve, and the mean residence time (MRT) (3.80 μg/mL, 2.70 μg/mL·h, and 0.59 h, respectively), compared to the AMX administered alone (12.54 μg/mL, 44.02 μg/mL·h, and MRT 2.78 h). ASP from amoxicillin/ionophore, reduced the Cmax (10.62 μg/mL), Fr (94.67%), and MRT (2.07 h), at the highest tested concentrations. In contrast, the 2 highest concentrations of the citrate sanitizer increased the Cmax (15.07 and 15.47 μg/mL), Fr (119 and 132%), and MRT (3.32 and 4.06 h) and their in vitro antimicrobial activity. Interactions between the tested water sanitizers and AMX modify the Cmax, Fr, MRT of the latter, altering the PK/pharmacodymanic ratios for a time-dependent antibiotic. Results also reveal that the use of amoxicillin trihydrate administered through the drinking water does not meet the required PK/pharmacodymanic ratios. Thus, it is here postulated that this antibiotic should be administered at least twice a day and that its interaction with water sanitizers should be considered.

This work deals with the development of a novel procedure to synthesize titania-modified nanostructured carbon employing Ti-SBA-15 as hard template. The new mesoporous carbon displays high specific surface area of 1044 m2/g and large pore volume of 0.7 cm3/g. XRD pattern of Ti-CMK-3 indicates that the ordered structure of this material is similar to the CMK-3. XRD, XPS and UV–Vis-DRS analysis indicated that Ti is highly dispersed as anatase phase in Ti-CMK-3. The synthesized Ti-CMK-3 exhibited significantly enhanced H2 storage properties (2.6 wt%, equivalent to 13 mmol/g) compared with CMK-3 without Ti (2.2 wt%, 11 mmol/g) at 77 K and 10 bar. This article revisits the University of Michigan's 2003 affirmative action cases, Grutter v. Bollinger and Gratz v. Bollinger. Through the aid of critical textual analysis and critical race theory, the author looks back at the predominant narratives that framed the challenge to, and defense of, race-conscious affirmative action policy in the University of Michigan cases. In the wake of Fisher v. University of Texas Austin, the third affirmative action case to be heard before the United States Supreme Court within the last decade, the author suggests that revisiting Grutter and Gratz may be helpful to understand the evolution of arguments for and against affirmative action.
