Zygomycosis (Mucor- and Entomophtoramycosis) of the gastrointestinal tract is rare compared to other mycoses in the gastrointestinal area. The infection occurs mainly in immunosuppressed patients but rare cases concerning immunocompetent persons are also documented. Zygomycosis occurs in the gastrointestine primarily or due to disseminated disease. We report on a 48-year-old female alcohol-addicted patient who underwent gastric biopsies. The biopsy results showed invasive zygomycosis. Shortly thereafter, the patient died of sepsis. The second case presented here is a 15-year-old female patient with recurrent vomiting. Histological and immunohistochemical analysis of duodenal biopsy specimens revealed fungi of the class Zygomycetes. In addition, histological and/or microbiological examination demonstrated the presence of Candida in both cases.Zygomycosis of the gastrointestinal tract can have an aggressive course, making it important to know the morphological characteristics of the disease to facilitate early diagnosis and therapy. This is all the more important because the cultivation of fungi, as in our cases, is not always successful.

Die glandulare odontogene Zyste (GOZ) ist eine sehr seltene Lasion des Ober- und Unterkiefers, die zu ausgedehnten Osteolysen fuhren kann. Histologisch ist sie typischerweise durch ein dunnes Platten- und Zylinderepithel mit muzinoser Metaplasie ausgekleidet, was die Abgrenzung vom Mukoepidermoidkarzinom erschwert. Die Rezidivrate ist hoch. Im Rahmen einer Routineuntersuchung wurde bei einer 30-jahrigen Patientin rontgenologisch eine riesige Osteolyse im Unterkiefer entdeckt. Alle Zahne im Unterkiefer waren vital. Differenzialdiagnostisch wurde zuerst an ein Ameloblastom gedacht. Histologisch wurden Anteile einer benignen epithelialen Zystenwand gesichert. Eine weitergehende Diagnose konnte am Biopsiematerial nicht gestellt werden. Die Zystektomie erfolgte nach intravitaler Fixierung mit Carnoy-Losung. Die Knochenhohle wurde ohne Einbringen von Fullmaterialien behandelt. Die Heilung verlief ungestort mit einer guten Knochenregeneration. Die GOZ ist wegen ihres seltenen Auftretens und ihrer Ahnlichkeit mit der botryoiden odontogenen Zyste und dem Low-grade-Mukoepidermoidkarzinom histologisch nur schwer zu identifizieren. Klinisch bleibt sie meist lange unbemerkt und wird oft nur durch die Rontgendiagnostik entdeckt. Wegen der Rezidivfreudigkeit empfehlen wir die Verwendung von Carnoy-Losung vor der Zystektomie. Die Knochenheilung kann auch bei ausgedehnten Defekten ohne Fullung mit Knochenersatzmaterialien ungestort verlaufen.

Zystische Nephrome (CN) sind seltene, gutartige Tumoren der Nieren, die meistens als Zufallsbefund im Rahmen von sonographischen Routineuntersuchungen der Abdominalorgane entdeckt werden. Klinische Symptome konnen in Form von Flanken- oder Oberbauchbeschwerden bestehen. Die bildgebenden Verfahren (Sonographie,Computertomographie und Kernspintomographie) zeigen in der Regel einen polyzystischen Tumor unterschiedlicher Grose mit inhomogener Septierung. Eine Abgrenzung gegen ein zystisches Nierenzellkarzinom ist ohne histologische Klarung nicht moglich. Die Therapie besteht in einer kompletten Tumorexzision oder Nephrektomie. Wir berichten uber 4 Patientinnen mit CN, die in den letzten 4 Jahren in unserer Klinik behandelt wurden.

Glandular odontogenic cyst (GOC) is a rare lesion of both, the maxilla and mandible, leading to extensive osteolysis. Histologically, it shows thin layers of squamous and cylindrical cells, lined with mucinous metaplasia. This makes it difficult to differentiate from a mucoepidermoid carcinoma. The recurrence rate is high.During a routine X-ray examination we saw massive osteolysis of the whole mandible in a 30-year-old female. All teeth were vital. The biopsy taken showed a benign cyst although the clinical aspect was similar to an ameloblastoma. The cyst was removed after intravital fixation with Carnoy's solution. The bony cavity was left without filling material. Uneventful bony healing occurred.Due to rare occurrence and similarity to botryoid odontogenic cyst and low-grade mucoepidermoid carcinoma GOC is difficult to identify. It remains without clinical signs for years and is identified in routine X-rays in most cases. We recommend cystectomy after use of Carnoy's solution for intravital fixation. No filling material is required for complete bony healing.
