SUMMARY OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate serum afamin levels in the first and third trimesters in preeclampsia. METHODS: Serum samples from 118 patients in the first and third trimesters were analyzed. Serum samples were collected from pregnant women who had enrolled in the first trimester. Blood was then collected from pregnant women who had developed preeclampsia and from healthy controls in the third trimester. The collected blood samples were resolved for analysis, and serum afamin concentrations were measured in the first and third trimesters. Preeclampsia and healthy controls were compared. RESULTS: There was no significant difference between the control and preeclampsia groups in terms of age, body mass index, and smoking. Oral anticoagulants and anti-platelet therapies are used for treatment and especially prophylaxis in clinical situations where there is a risk of thromboembolism or when thromboembolic events occur. The presented case was a patient who was hospitalized due to cellulitis in the leg, and was diagnosed with heart failure, obesity and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She was started on prophylactic oral anticoagulants for deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary emboli and subsequently developed spontaneous breast hematoma. The usual sites of such bleeding are the skin, gastrointestinal tract, genitourinary tract, central nervous system, retroperitoneum, muscle, and the site of recent surgical procedures or trauma while breast hematomas are usually of traumatic origin. Spontaneous bleeding into the breast after anticoagulant use is rare. While using anticoagulants, it should be kept in mind that, rarely, bleeding may occur in the breast. We advise that intervention in such cases is unnecessary, no matter how large the breast hematoma is, and that new anti-coagulant drugs may be safer.

Objective: In this study, we investigated the association between first trimester lipid profile and postterm pregnancy (PTG) and whether lipid profile can be a predictive criterion for the development of PTG.Materials and Methods: 329 pregnant women with postterm delivery and 97 pregnant women with term delivery were included in the study. Demographic data, mode of delivery, first trimester lipid profiles (total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-C, LDL-C, VLDL-C), APGAR score of the babies born, and whether they required neonatal intensive care. In the study, the lipid profile differences between the groups were evaluated.Results: While no significant difference was found between the postterm and term pregnancy groups in terms of age, number of pregnancies, parity, and body mass index (BMI), a statistically significant difference was found in terms of mean APGAR score (p < 0.001) and YDYB requirement (p < 0.001). The rate of cesarean section in PTG group was higher than in term pregnancies and the difference was statistically significant (p < 0.001). When the lipid profiles were evaluated between the groups, it was found that the levels of total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-C, LDL-C and VLDL-C levels were significantly lower in the PTG group (p < 0.05).Conclusion: In our study, low lipid levels in the first trimester were found to be associated with PTG. Low lipid levels in the first trimester of pregnancy can be considered as a criterion for predicting PTG. Adequate maternal nutrition is crucial for pregnancy and fetal growth, and thereby influences pregnancy outcome. In this study, we investigate the relationship between certain vitamin levels of first trimester pregnancy and its maternal-fetal outcomes. This retrospective study was conducted between January 2020 and July 2020 by evaluating data drawn from the hospital database. Serum vitamin B12, 25OH-vitamin D, folic acid and ferritin levels were evaluated in 499 women during the first trimester of pregnancy and confounding factors were analyzed. The mean age was 27 years. The mean birth weight of newborn was 3300g. The vaginal delivery rate was 73.1% whereas caesarean delivery rate was 26.9%. Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) was needed in 8% of newborns. Objective:Obesity is a global health epidemic with considerable co-morbidities. The increasing demand for bariatric surgery has led to the emergence of new techniques. We modified previously described Mini Gastric By-pass(MGB) technique via leaving a bridge at the most cranial 2 cm of the fundus of the human stomach to the follow-up and treatment of the remnant stomach and duodenum. We would like to entitle this new technique as Bridged MGB and aimed to apply on rabbits as an experimental study.Material and Methods:The study was performed in the experimental animal laboratory of university after ethical approval was taken from the local ethics committee. Described new technique was applied to 2.1 and 3.2 kg 2 New Zealand rabbits.Results:As a result of the operations, one of the rabbits died on the day of the operation; the other rabbit was exitus postoperatively on the third day. In autopsies, although no problem was detected at the anastomoses, necrosis was detected in the large curvature of both rabbits.Conclusion:Rabbit, one of the popular experimental animals, has been shown to be different from the human gastrointestinal system in both arterial and topographic aspects and it has been emphasized that it varies according to the species and even the diet and the climate. We believe that our study failed as a result of these differences and that animals more similar to humans should be used in gastrointestinal experimental studies

Urbanus kutsal toprakları kurtarmak ve Doğu’daki din kardeşlerine yardım etmek amacıyla “Tanrı adına savaş” sözleriyle Avrupa halklarını büyük bir Haçlı Seferi’ne çağırırken (1095), İslâm dünyası Sünnî Selçuklular ile Şiî Fâtımîler arasındaki üstünlük mücadelesinin sıkıntılarını yaşıyordu. Birinci Haçlı Seferi ordularının Avrupa’dan İslâm coğrafyası üzerine harekete geçtikleri esnada, Artukoğlullarının hâkimiyetindeki Beytülmakdis, Fâtımîlerin kuşatması altındaydı (1098). Selçuklu kuvvetleri ve yerel Türkmen beylikleri devasa Haçlı ordularını durdurmaya çalışırken, Fâtımî halifesi elçileri aracılığıyla onlarla dostane ilişkiler kurmaya çalışıyordu. Haçlı tehlikesini zamanında idrak edemeyen ve onların Kudüs’ten vazgeçmeyeceklerini çok geç anlayan Fâtımîler, Kudüs’ün zapt edilmesine ve burada dünya tarihinin gördüğü en vahşi katliamlardan birinin gerçekleştirilmesine engel olamadılar (1099). Kudüs’ün Haçlıların eline geçmesinden sonra, Fâtımî kuvvetleri Kudüs’ü geri almak ve ülkelerini korumak amacıyla Haçlılarla defalarca karşı karşıya geldilerse de onlara karşı bir üstünlük elde edemediler (1099-1105). Sonuçta Kudüs’ü kaderine terk etmek zorunda kalan Fâtımîlerin, yegâne başarıları Haçlıları Askalân önlerinde bir süre durdurabilmek oldu.

The purpose of this study was to determine whether changes in lipid profile in pregnant women might have any effect on the perinatal outcomes. This retrospective study was conducted between January 2020 and December 2020 by evaluating data drawn from the hospital database. The total serum cholesterol(C), HDL-C, LDL-C, VLDL-C and triglycerides levels were measured in 587 women during the first trimester of pregnancy and confounding factors were analyzed. The mean age was 27 years. The mean gravida and parity were 2 and 1 respectively. The mean birth weight of newborn was 3280 g. The mean Apgar score was 9 at 0 and 5 minutes respectively. The vaginal delivery rate was 68.3% whereas caeserian delivery rate was 31.7%. Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) was needed in 0.5% of newborns. There was no significant statistical difference between the rates of caeserian section and vaginal delivery in patients with respect to lipid profile levels. The total serum cholesterol(C), triglycerides, LDL-C and VLDL-C levels were significantly higher in mothers of babies hospitalized in NICU.HDL-C level was similar between two groups. Adequate lipid levels in the first trimester of pregnancy are crucial for the health of pregnant women and newborn. High levels of lipids can increase NICU need but not effect way of delivery.

This leader was none other than Artuquid Aamir Balaq Ghazi of Harput who stopped the Crusader armies with his bravery, courage and intelligence and who became the fearful dream of the Crusaders by capturing the King of Jerusalem, the Count of Edessa and the Seigneur of Bira. The study, which is prepared by compiling fundamental and current sources, aims to introduce this great hero whose name, we think is not mentioned enough in Turkish history. The study sheds light on his endless struggle against the Crusaders and capturing their leaders during, to prevent them from spreading to Eastern Anatolia and his ensuring peace and order by chastening Armenians who were bandits in the al-Jazeera region and by means of preventing dangerous of the Batinis who caused strife in Aleppo., XII. yüzyılın ilk çeyreğinde, Abbâsî Hilâfeti’nin İslâm ülkeleri ve yöneticileri üzerinde etkisinin azalıp bittiği, Selçukluların birlik ve bütünlüğünü kaybedip iç meseleleriyle uğraştığı, Haçlıların Ortadoğu’da terör estirmelerini ve İslâm topraklarında yayılmalarını önleyebilecek istikrarlı bir kuvvetin kalmadığı, Müslümanların Haçlı baskısı altında can ve mal güvenliklerinin tehlike altında olduğu bir dönemde Harput’ta bir lider ortaya çıktı. Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy is a pregnancy-specific liver disease that usually emerges during the third trimester of pregnancy. It is characterized by itching and elevated serum total bile acid levels, and it may lead to severe fetal complications. This study aimed to investigate the role of interleukin-8, a pro-inflammatory cytokine; interleukin-10, an anti-inflammatory cytokine; and melatonin in intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy.This prospective, case-controlled study was conducted with 51 women with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (40 mild and 11 severe cases) and 43 healthy pregnant women. Serum interleukin-8, interleukin-10, and melatonin levels were evaluated.Melatonin and interleukin -10 were significantly lower in subjects with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (p=0.001; p=0.001, respectively p0.05). Objective: The aim of this observational retrospective cohort study was to define the effect of the embryo transfer (ET) technique on pregnancy and live birth rates. Material and Methods: Infertile women with good prognostic factors undergoing in vitro fertilization treatment with freezing all the 5th day good quality embryos and consecutive frozen ET in 468 infertile good responders with first quality 5th day embryos were chosen for this study. Logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the effect of ET on the live birth rates. Results: Of the six predictive values, four were statistically significant: The easy passage of the external catheter, ultrasonographic visualization of the bubble, leaving the embryo at the desired location, and bleeding found in the external catheter after the catheter were excluded from the cervical ostium. While the probability of pregnancy decreased by 98.1% in cases where the embryo could not be left at the expected location, it was observed that the probability of pregnancy decrease was 96.4% in cases where no bubble could be seen, and 59.2% in cases with bleeding in the external catheter. Similarly, a 74.4% decrease in the probability of pregnancy was observed in patients in whom the passage of the catheter was difficult. Even though the tip of the transfer catheter during the ET is easily seen, the blood in the external catheter decreases pregnancy chance. Conclusion: Visualizing the internal catheter and the air bubble under the ultrasound guidance with the atraumatic placing of the embryo 1–1.5 cm away from the uterine fundus is crucial for the success of ET.

COVID-19 crisis affects ovarium cancer patients seriously. Thus, it is vital to diagnose ovarium cancer, one of the most common types of cancer diagnosed and the causes of death of women around the world, at early stages. Herein, 5-(2-phenylbenzo[b]thiophen-3-yl) thiophene-2-carbaldehyde (PTTC)-based sensor is designed to detect CA-125 more precisely and rapidly via electrochemical methods. PTTC, novel benzothiophene derivative, is synthesized by electrophilic cyclization reactions and Pd-catalyst coupling reactions. Then, PTTC is dispersed homogeneously in Nafion solution, and an ink is obtained. This ink is transferred onto the glassy carbon electrode and CA-125 is incubated on this electrode. Cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements are employed to determine sensitivity and reliability of CA-125 on PTTC based GCE electrode. The effect of CA 125 concentration, incubation time, scan rate studies are performed by CV to determine the optimum conditions. Optimum conditions are found as 3 μL PTTC loading, 5000 ng/mL CA125 antigen concentration and 30 min incubation time. Linear range of the PTTC based GCE electrode prepared at optimum conditions are obtained by DPV as 1–100 ng/ml.Limit of detection and limit of quantification values were obtained as 0.0096 ng/mL and 0.0288 ng/mL, respectively. Interference and artificial serum results reveal that this electrode is a promising electrode for CA125 antigen determination for the ovarium cancer. PTTC is a novel and unique material for the detection of ovarium cancer antigen CA-125 and promising for CA-125 antigen detection.

Introduction Psychiatric problems, such as stress and anxiety disorders, are encountered amongst healthcare professionals fighting epidemics. Considering that COVID‐19 suddenly became a pandemic and healthcare professionals have not had access to sufficient information, it is a fact that healthcare professionals have been affected on a large scale. Heavy workloads, insufficient equipment and anxiety over families increase this impact. We aimed to investigate the extent to which healthcare professionals have been psychologically affected by COVID‐19 and related factors. Methodology Data obtained through questionnaires completed by 348 healthcare professionals working during the COVID‐19 pandemic and 350 participants who are in the control group were investigated. The Impact of Event Scale‐revised (IES‐R) for post‐traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the Severity Index (ISI) for insomnia were used. Differences regarding gender, occupation, age group, marital status and sub‐groups were statistically analysed.
