In recent years, various methods of measuring body temperature have been developed using wireless biosensors to facilitate an early detection of pregnancy and parturition in cows. However, there are no studies on real-time monitoring of cattle body temperature throughout pregnancy. Therefore, we investigated the daily mean ruminal temperature in pregnant cows throughout pregnancy using a ruminal bio-capsule sensor and then evaluated the temperature variation between pregnant and non-pregnant cows. In pregnant cows, the mean and standard deviation of ruminal temperature was 38.86 ± 0.17℃. Ruminal temperature in pregnant cows slowly decreased until 180 to 190 days after artificial insemination and after that, the temperature increased dramatically until just before parturition. Furthermore, the means ruminal temperature was significantly different between pregnant and nonpregnant cows. The mean and standard deviation of ruminal temperature were as follows: 38.68 ± 0.01℃ from days 80 to 100, 38.78 ± 0.02℃ from days 145 to 165, 38.99 ± 0.45℃ from days 200 to 220, 39.14 ± 0.38℃ from days 250 to 270 before parturition. Therefore, our results could provide useful data for early detection of pregnancy and parturition in Korean cows.

A 22-year-old male patient was diagnosed with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). He received conservative treatment with an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor. Two years later, oral therapy, consisting of 60 mg tolvaptan per day, was initiated. Compared with height-adjusted total kidney volume, the rate of kidney growth reduced significantly from 7.33% to 0.66% annually, since commencement of the tolvaptan therapy. The liver enzyme profile and serum sodium level and osmolality were constantly within normal ranges. In Korea, this is the first reported case of a patient with ADPKD who received tolvaptan treatment for more than 1 year. This case demonstrates that long-term tolvaptan treatment appears to be safe, well tolerated, and effective for ADPKD.

In this research, ligand exchanged silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) were incorporated into perovskite by an effective method during the solvent treatment. Since PVP-capped or bare-Ag NPs tend to aggregate in organic solvents, the original capping agent was replaced by propanethiol which reduced aggregation and enhanced thermal stability, which was confirmed by Zeta-radius measurement and morphological analysis. Accordingly, Ag NPs with propanethiol improved light absorption by facilitating scattering which contributed to increased charge generation/transport with reduced recombination. The effective ligand exchange and incorporation method can be a useful approach for device stability between Ag NPs and methyl ammonium lead halide perovskite.

Aorta-right atrial tunnel is a vascular anomaly that originates from the aortic sinus and terminates in either the superior vena cava or the right atrium. The patency of the tunnel can result in volume overload in both ventricles, bacterial endocarditis, aneurysm formation, and spontaneous rupture. Transesophageal echocardiography was performed in a 42-year-old male patient diagnosed with infectious endocarditis, and vegetation of the mitral and aortic valves, right atrial enlargement, and an extracardiac blood vessel connecting the aorta to the right atrium were discovered. Therefore, we were able to diagnose an aorta-right atrial tunnel leading to infectious endocarditis and proceeded with surgical treatment. Together with a review of the literature, we present a case report of a patient with aorta-right atrial tunnel accompanied by infectious endocarditis. (Korean J Med 2016;90:140-143)

The energy conservation is the most important subject for long run operation of the sensor nodes with limited power resources. Clustering is one of most energy efficient technique to grouped the sensor nodes into distinct cluster. But, in a cluster based WSN, CHs and gateways bear an extra work load to send the processed data to the sink. The inappropriate cluster formation may cause gateways overloaded and may increase latency in communication. In this paper, we propose a novel load balanced clustering model for improving energy efficiency and giving a guarantee of long network lifetime. We show the result of performance measurement experiments that designs using a branch and bound algorithm and a multi-start local search algorithm to compare with the existing load balanced clustering model.

The survey and analysis of preferences for temple food known to health promotion and prevention of adult diseases aimed at popularization of the monks living in Daegu Gyeongbuk and Busan Gyeongnam inspections are as follows. Monks have been recognized as healthy food (42.2%), and expected contribution of health promotion, such as prevention of adult diseases in the popularization of temple food (74.7%), it was better traditional cooking method, and recognize improvement of nutritional supplement (36.7%). Recently, fuel cell generation system with high energy efficiency and low CO2 emission is energetically interconnected with distribution power system. Especially, MCFC(molten carbonate fuel cell) operating at high temperature conditions is commercialized and installed as a form of large scale power generation system. However, it is reported that power system disturbances such as harmonic distortion, surge phenomenon, unbalance current, EMI(Electromagnetic Interference), EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) and so on, have caused several problems including malfunction of protection device and damage of control devices in the large scale FCGS(Fuel Cell Generation System). Under these circumstances, this paper proposes countermeasure algorithms to prevent power system disturbances based on the modelling of PSCAD/EMTDC and P-SIM software. From the simulation results, it is confirmed that proposed algorithms are useful method for the stable operation of a large scale FCGS.

We used a 135K rice microarray to identify genes involved in anthocyanin biosynthesis and metabolism in black rice. Using our multi-interaction screening method, we then screened 427 expression genes, 754 orthologous genes, and 416 pathway-network related genes associated with anthocyanin bio-synthesis. Finally, we identified eight candidate genes by comparing pathway-expression genes, including ortholog-ontology genes. To verify the candidate genes, each was mapped to the black rice genome, and functional predictions were confirmed via phylogenetic reconstructions using the candidate genes and their homologous proteins. While the eight genes identified by our method require further characterization and validation, our study demonstrates the power of multi-interaction screening after the initial identification of genes with microarrays.
