This book constitutes the proceedings of the 23rd International Conference on Perspectives in Business Informatics Research, BIR 2024, which took place in Prague, Czech Republic, in September 2024. The central theme of BIR 2024 was “Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Business Informatics: Opportunities and Challenges”. The 15 full papers and 1 short paper included in these proceedings were carefully reviewed and selected from 43 submissions. They cover different aspects of the discipline and are organized in sections on AI opportunities and challenges; AI applications and use cases in business; business intelligence; business and information systems development; and knowledge and traceability management.

This book contains all refereed papers that were accepted to the first edition of the « Digital Enterprise Design & Management » (DED&M 2013) international conference that took place in Paris (France) from February 12 to February 13, 2013. This chapter describes a study conducted at the Swinburne University of Technology in Australia, in their School of Business. The study was to explore the applicability of a judgment-analytic decision support system to the assessment of the likelihood of an applicant being selected for admission to the School's Graduate Certificate in Business Administration (GCBA) program. The likelihood of a program administrator selecting a particular applicant is directly linked to the assessment of the likelihood of that applicant's success in the GCBA program. The purpose of this study, in effect, was to analyze the administrative judgment process in assessment of an applicant's likelihood of success in the program. THE PROCESS OF HUMAN JUDGMENT Human judgment is a process through which an individual uses social infonnation to make decisions. The social infonnation is obtained from an individual's environment and is interpreted through the individual's cognitive image of the environment. The. cognitive image provides a representation of the environment based on past experiences and training, and essentially predisposes the person to respond to social infonnation in predictable ways. An individual's policies or beliefs about the environment represent these patterns. Human judgments are based then upon one's interpretation of available infonnation. They are probability statements about one's environment and how one reacts to it. This condition leads to the human judgment process being inherently limited. It is fundamentally a covert process. It is seldom possible for an individual to accurately describe his or her judgment process accurately.

This book contains the refereed proceedings of the 16th International Conference on Business Information Systems, BIS 2013, held in Poznań, Poland, in June 2013. The theme of this year's conference was'Business Applications on the Move,'reflecting the growing usage of mobile devices in business applications and its repercussions on business processes and information management.The 18 revised full papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 52 submissions. They are grouped into six sections on modern enterprises and mobile ERP, business models and BPM, linked data and ontologies, recommendations and content analysis, knowledge discovery, and IT frameworks and systems architecture.

This book constitutes the proceedings of the 6th International IFIP Working Conference on Research and Practical Issues of Enterprise Information Systems (CONFENIS 2012), held in Ghent, Belgium, during September 19–21, 2012. The theme of the conference was'enterprise information systems of the future –– evolving toward more performance through transparency and agility,'mirroring the trend toward more open and more flexible systems.In all, 53 contributions were submitted and after a rigorous review process 10 full papers and 15 short papers were selected for publication in this book. These 25 papers present a well-balanced mix between the traditional social sciences and the novel design science paradigms in enterprise information systems research, and they also include practitioner-oriented and practice-driven contributions. The topics covered fall into three categories: information management in businesses (e.g., enterprise modeling or business process management), information systems from a management perspective (e.g., service innovation, business intelligence, or decision support systems), and ERP offerings and implementations (e.g., software as a service or ERP case studies).

To large organizations, business intelligence (BI) promises the capability of collecting and analyzing internal and external data to generate knowledge and value, thus providing decision support at the strategic, tactical, and operational levels. BI is now impacted by the “Big Data” phenomena and the evolution of society and users. In particular, BI applications must cope with additional heterogeneous (often Web-based) sources, e.g., from social networks, blogs, competitors', suppliers', or distributors'data, governmental or NGO-based analysis and papers, or from research publications. Over the past 10 years, object technology has gained widespread acceptance within the software industry. Within a wider context, however, it has made little impact on the core applications which support businesses in carrying out their tasks. This volume contains a collection of papers establishing the need for Business Objects, with particular reference to work undertaken by the Object Management Group (OMG). The emphasis is on defining an agenda for establishing Business Object standards and architectures, for developing software technology to support Business Objects applications and managing object oriented development projects. This book constitutes the proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Business Process Management, BPM 2012, held in Tallinn, Estonia, in September 2012. The 17 regular papers and 7 short papers included in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 126 submissions. The book also features two keynote lectures which were given at the conference. The papers are organized in topical sections named: process quality; conformance and compliance; BPM applications; process model analysis; BPM and the cloud; requirements and performance; process mining; and refactoring and optimization.

The ATOP (Agent-Based Technologies and Applications for Enterprise Interoperability) workshop series focuses on technologies that support interoperability in networked organizations, on successful applications of these technologies, and on lessons learned. In particular, ATOP brings together research combining ideas from MDA and SOA with agent technologies. The ATOP 2009 and 2010 workshops were held at the AAMAS conferences in Budapest, Hungary, in May 2009, and in Toronto, Canada, in May 2010. The 11 papers presented here were carefully reviewed by three members of the international Program Committee and selected out of 25 contributions to the workshops. The topics covered are modeling interoperable systems; semantic approaches to enterprise interoperability; and interoperable business processes and business interactions. These papers are completed by an invited contribution reporting on OMG agent standardization. The main goal was to collect approaches for the application of agent technologies in these areas. Current trends in the development of agent technologies are compared with recent developments in service-oriented and model-driven system design, with respect to their ability to solve interoperability problems.

This two-volume set (CCIS 267 and CCIS 268) constitutes the refereed proceedings of the International Conference on Information and Business Intelligence, IBI 2011, held in Chongqing, China, in December 2011. The 229 full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 745 submissions. The papers address topics such as communication systems; accounting and agribusiness; information education and educational technology; manufacturing engineering; multimedia convergence; security and trust computing; business teaching and education; international business and marketing; economics and finance; and control systems and digital convergence.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 8th International Joint Conference on E-Business and Telecommunications, ICETE 2011, held in Seville, Spain in July 2011. The 118 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 409 submissions. The topics covered are data communication networking, e-business, optical communication systems, security and cryptography, signal processing and multimedia applications, and wireless networks and information systems. These are the main knowledge areas that define the six component conferences, namely: DCNET, ICE-B, OPTICS, SECRYPT, SIGMAP, and WINSYS which together form the ICETE joint conference.

The next generation of Business Process Management (BPM) methods and tools will support the development of a new generation of service-enabled applications that change and evolve over time. The trend is moving from relatively stable, organization-specific applications to dynamic ones supporting business processes. This book is an outcome of the International Workshop on Business System Management and Engineering (BSME 2010), held in Malaga, Spain, in June/July 2010, in conjunction with the TOOLS 2010 federated conferences and under the aegis of the EU Network of Excellence on Service Software and Systems (S-Cube). The goal of the workshop was to bring together experts in the fields of business process management, service-oriented architectures, and service security to discuss the current state of research and identify new issues, challenges, and research directions. The results of these discussions are reflected in this book.

This volume constitutes the proceedings of the combined 7th International Workshop on Trends in Enterprise Architecture Research (TEAR 2012) and the 5th Working Conference on Practice-Driven Research on Enterprise Transformation (PRET-5), held in Barcelona, Spain, October 23-24, 2012, and co-located with The Open Group's Conference on Enterprise Architecture, Cloud Computing, and Security. Joining the forces of the two events with The Open Group Conference provided the unique opportunity for an intensive exchange between practitioners as well as for discussions on standardization efforts and academic research in the areas of enterprise transformation and enterprise architecture (EA). Based on careful reviews by at least three Program Committee members, 18 papers were chosen for inclusion in these proceedings. They were presented in six sessions on enterprise architecture management (EAM) effectivity, languages for EA, EAM and the ability to change, advanced topics in EA, governing enterprise transformations, and EA applications.

On September 17 and 18, 1998, a conference took place at Mont Tremblant on the theme'Doing Business in a Knowledge-Based Economy.'This conference brought together some hundred participants from government, business and academia, with backgrounds in business administration, engineering, public administration and economics, to provide a multidisciplinary analysis of what has come to be known as the'Knowledge-Based Economy'(KBE). The aim was to come up with suggestions and recommendations about how to do business in a knowledge­ based economy, both at the firm level and at the government level. All presenters were explicitly asked to conclude with policy recommendations. The conference was sponsored by Industry Canada and organized by the Centre of Interuniversity Research on the Analysis of Organizations (CIRANO). The conference papers offered U.S., Canadian and European perspectives on the management of a knowledge-based economy. This volume is divided into three parts. The papers in part I set the stage by describing the salient features of the KBE. What is so special about it? What are its economic underpinnings? What are its technological characteristics? Knowledge plays a crucial role in a KBE, hence its name. Whereas, in the past, growth was determined primarily by the availability of land, natural resources, labour and capital successively, at the end of the twentieth century, knowledge has become a (if not the) major factor of economic growth.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the four workshops that were organized in conjunction with the International Conference on Business Information Systems, BIS 2012, which took place in Vilnius, Lithuania, May 21-23, 2012. In addition, the papers from the Future Internet Symposium, which was organized in conjunction with BIS 2012, are also included.BIS workshops give researchers the opportunity to share their preliminary ideas and first experimental results, and discuss research hypotheses with a highly focused audience. The 24 papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 63 submissions and were revised and extended after the event. The workshop topics covered applications and economics of knowledge-based technologies (AKTB), business and IT alignment (BITA), enterprise systems for higher education (ESHE), and formal semantics for future enterprises (FSFE). In addition, one invited paper from BITA is also included in this volume.
