This book attempts to illustrate the case of performance evaluation of Chinese financial holding companies. The question motivating the book is: with the deepening of reforms such as interest rate liberalization, the profitability of some traditional commercial banks has declined. In this context, how to maintain continuous improvement in operating performance of traditional commercial banks to resist the profitability declines.  This book selects 13 Chinese financial holding companies as the research objects. With the authentic and reliable data, the author uses factor analysis method to conduct an empirical study on their performance evaluation and case analysis on three typical companies. Based on the research on the performance evaluation of financial holding companies, the evaluation methods are discussed and suggestions for improvement are provided.

Die zunehmende Relevanz von ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) in der finanzwirtschaftlichen Forschung und Praxis wird angetrieben durch Wesentlichkeit, Investorennachfrage und Regulatorik. Weil Initiativen im Bereich ESG für Unternehmen mit (hohen) Kosten verbunden sind, stellt sich die Frage, ob sich die Investitionen in Bezug auf eine höhere Performance bzw. ein geringeres Risiko „lohnen“. Die bisherige Forschung konzentriert sich v. a. auf die Shareholder-Value-Perspektive. Jüngere Studien untersuchen ESG aus einer Risikoperspektive, vorwiegend eigenkapitalbasiert. Untersuchungen zum Wirkungszusammenhang zwischen ESG und dem Kreditrisiko sind noch spärlich gesät, insbesondere für den europäischen Raum. Aus einer Prinzipal-Agent-theoretischen Sichtweise kann angenommen werden, dass Gläubiger ESG-Investitionen anders bewerten als Eigentümer. Für Gläubiger steht die Bedienung ihrer Zahlungsansprüche aus dem Cash Flow im Vordergrund, sie befürworten grundsätzlich weniger risikoreiche Investitionen. Helena Maria Krebs analyzes equilibrium credit rationing when banks compete for loans and deposits in a double-sided Bertrand game. Borrowers and lenders are allowed to switch market sides. Thus, investors do not only base their decisions on loan rates, but also on opportunity costs in the form of deposit rates. Credit rationing may occur if adverse selection due to borrowers'informational advantage leads to a lower expected return on loans if the loan rate increases. In that case, banks may have an incentive to offer loan rates below the market-clearing rate. At these rates loan demand exceeds loan supply. The author reveals the important role of bank equity and its distribution: Banks with high equity offer cheap loans and reject superfluous loan applicants, whom banks with low equity then offer expensive loans. Thereby expensive banks realize a higher expected return on loans thancheap banks. Furthermore, this book is the first to formally model the process of acceptance and rejection of loan applicants as a separate stage of the double-sided Bertrand game after banks have decided on their interest rates. It is shown that for fixed chosen interest rates, the deposit and loan volumes of all banks in a subgame perfect Nash equilibrium of the resource allocation game are uniquely determined.

The use of cloud applications is becoming increasingly popular due to their scalability and cost advantages. However, companies need help in adopting cloud applications due to their internal policies and compliance requirements. Trust and security are crucial factors that influence the adoption of cloud applications. This book proposes a cloud architecture that addresses this challenge by shifting the trust for compliance-driven configurations of cloud applications from the cloud application provider to the blockchain. The architecture was developed using design science research and evaluated using mixed-method semi-structured guided interviews.
