Abstract

Context. The formation of stars has been subject to extensive studies in the past decades from molecular cloud to protoplanetary disk scales. It is still not fully understood how the surrounding material in a protostellar system, that often shows asymmetric structures with complex kinematic properties, feeds the central protostar(s) and their disk(s). Aims. We study the spatial morphology and kinematic properties of the molecular gas surrounding the IRS3A and IRS3B protostellar systems in the L1448N region located in the Perseus molecular cloud. Methods. We present 1 mm NOEMA observations of the PRODIGE large program and analyze the kinematic properties of molecular lines. Given the complexity of the spectral profiles, the lines are fitted with up to three Gaussian velocity components. The clustering algorithm DBSCAN is used to disentangle the velocity components into the underlying physical structure. Results. We discover an extended gas bridge (~3000 au) surrounding both the IRS3A and IRS3B systems in six molecular line tracers (C18O, SO, DCN, H2CO, HC3N, and CH3OH). This gas bridge is oriented along the northeast-southwest direction and shows clear velocity gradients on the order of 100 km/s/pc towards the IRS3A system. We find that the observed velocity profile is consistent with analytical streamline models of gravitational infall towards IRS3A. The high-velocity C18O (2-1) emission towards IRS3A indicates a protostellar mass of ~1.2 Msun. Conclusions. While high angular resolution continuum data often show IRS3A and IRS3B in isolation, molecular gas observations reveal that these systems are still embedded within a large-scale mass reservoir with a complex spatial morphology as well as velocity profiles. Abstract

The third-generation of gravitational wave observatories, such as the Einstein Telescope (ET) and Cosmic Explorer (CE), aim for an improvement in sensitivity of at least a factor of ten over a wide frequency range compared to the current advanced detectors. In order to inform the design of the third-generation detectors and to develop and qualify their subsystems, dedicated test facilities are required. ETpathfinder prototype uses full interferometer configurations and aims to provide a high sensitivity facility in a similar environment as ET. Along with the interferometry at 1550 nm and silicon test masses, ETpathfinder will focus on cryogenic technologies, lasers and optics at 2090 nm and advanced quantum-noise reduction schemes. This paper analyses the underpinning noise contributions and combines them into full noise budgets of the two initially targeted configurations: 1) operating with 1550 nm laser light and at a temperature of 18 K and 2) operating at 2090 nm wavelength and a temperature of 123 K.

Abstract

On the basis of its low luminosity, its chemical composition, and the absence of a large-scale outflow, the dense core Cha-MMS1 located in the Chamaeleon I molecular cloud was proposed as a first hydrostatic core (FHSC) candidate a decade ago. Our goal is to test this hypothesis by searching for a slow, compact outflow driven by Cha-MMS1 that would match the predictions of MHD simulations for this short phase of star formation. We use the Atacama Large Millimetre/submillimetre Array (ALMA) to map Cha-MMS1 at high angular resolution in CO 3-2 and 13CO 3-2 as well as in continuum emission. We report the detection of a bipolar outflow emanating from the central core, along a (projected) direction roughly parallel to the filament in which Cha-MMS1 is embedded and perpendicular to the large-scale magnetic field. The morphology of the outflow indicates that its axis lies close to the plane of the sky. We measure velocities corrected for inclination of more than 90km/s which is clearly incompatible with the expected properties of a FHSC outflow. Several properties of the outflow are determined and compared to previous studies of Class 0 and Class I protostars. The outflow of Cha-MMS1 has a much smaller momentum force than the outflows of other Class 0 protostars. In addition, we find a dynamical age of 200-3000yr indicating that Cha-MMS1 might be one of the youngest ever observed Class 0 protostars. While the existence of the outflow suggests the presence of a disk, no disk is detected in continuum emission and we derive an upper limit of 55au to its radius. We conclude that Cha-MMS1 has already gone through the FHSC phase and is a young Class 0 protostar, but it has not brought its outflow to full power yet., Comment: Accepted for publication in A&A

Abstract

28th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition; 3699-3708, For the determination of the energy yield of Photovoltaic(PV) systems, meteorological data as well as technical properties of the PV power plant under consideration are required. Based on these information, the electric output may be calculated by accounting for the plane-of-array irradiation, the nominal capacity and the Performance Ratio (PR) of the PV system considered. In order to determine the PR, Solar Engineering Decker & Mack GmbH developed the first version of their in-house program named PR-FACT in 2006. Since that time, continuous further development to account for new system designs and to improve accuracy took place – resulting to version 5 today – while more than 300 projects with a cumulative capacity of approximately 3,000 MWp have been reviewed worldwide. PR-FACT divides the Performance Ratio in several single correction factors to account for various parameters determining the performance or the electric yield, respectively. The program is based on well-established models and uses technical properties of the PV system as wells as its components provided with the PV power plant design and the product documentation / data sheets of the manufacturers (e.g. voltage dependent conversion efficiency of the inverter). The standard version of PR-FACT, for Energy Yield Assessments, works with hourly, meteorological time series – higher temporal resolution is applicable and applied for e.g. Direct Consumption Studies. The paper on hand presents models and approaches used within PR-FACT and illustrates results from validation.
