Background: Experimental research suggests that fine particulate matter (PM2.5) exposure might affect embryonic development. However, only few population-based studies have investigated the impact of maternal exposure to PM2.5 on the early pregnancy loss. Objectives: To estimate associations between clinically recognized early pregnancy loss (CREPL) and exposure to ambient PM2.5 at individual residences during peri-conception periods, with the aim to identify susceptible exposure time windows. Methods: CREPL cases and normal early pregnancy controls (of similar age and gravidity presenting within one week, a total of 364 pairs) were recruited between July 2017 and July 2018 among women residing in Tianjin, China. Average ambient PM2.5 concentrations of ten exposure windows (4 weeks, 2 weeks and 1 week before conception; the first, second, third and fourth single week, the first and second 2-week periods, and the entire 4-week period after conception) at the women's residential addresses were estimated using temporally-adjusted land use regression models. Associations between PM2.5 exposures at specific peri-conception time windows and CREPL were examined using conditional logistic regression models, adjusted for covariates. Results: Based on adjusted models, CREPL was significantly associated with a 10 μg/m3 increase in PM2.5 exposure during the second week after conception (OR = 1.15; 95% CI: 1.04, 1.27; p = 0.005), independent of effects at other time windows. There was also an association of CREPL with PM2.5 during the entire 4-week period after conception (OR = 1.22; 95% CI: 1.02, 1.46; p = 0.027). There was little evidence for associations with exposure during pre-conception exposure windows. Conclusions: Maternal exposures to ambient PM2.5 during a critical time window following conception are associated with CREPL, with the second week after conception possibly being the exposure window of most vulnerability. Future studies should focus on replicating these findings and on pathogenic mechanisms. Evidence for effects of PM

Background Mycoplasma-related vaginitis gradually has been growing as a threat in adults-genitourinary infection contributes to funisitis, spontaneous abortion, and low birth weight. Until now, use of loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) to detect Ureaplasma urealyticum (UU), Mycoplasma hominis (MH), or Mycoplasma genitalium (MG) has been reported by some researchers. However, previous studies focused on purified DNA as the template for LAMP assay, which is usually extracted via commercial kit. Methods We developed a LAMP assay for rapid detection of UU, MH, and MG genital mycoplasmas using a simple boiling method for DNA extraction, in a cohort of pregnant women with mycoplasma-related vaginitis. We monitored amplicons with the naked eye using SYBR Green I. Results The cohort in our study showed a prevalence of 22.6% in pregnant women, as detected by UU-LAMP assay. Compared to the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test with purified DNA, the sensitivity of the UU-LAMP in clinical specimens with crude DNA was 87.5% (95% confidence interval [CI], 64.6%->99.9). For crude DNA specimens, UU-LAMP was more sensitive and reliable than PCR, with a higher agreement rate (96.8%) and Youden index value (0.88). Conclusions As a point-of-care test, LAMP is a useful, specific, and efficient way to detect genital mycoplasmas in resource-limited settings, especially for crude DNA.

Evidence for effects of PM2.5 on systemic oxidative stress in pregnant women is limited, especially in early pregnancy. To estimate the associations between ambient PM2.5 exposures and biomarkers of lipid peroxidation and total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) in women with normal early pregnancy (NEP) and women with clinically recognized early pregnancy loss (CREPL), 206 early pregnant women who had measurements of serum malondialdehyde (MDA) and T-AOC were recruited from a larger case-control study in Tianjin, China from December 2017 to July 2018. Ambient PM2.5 concentrations of eight single-day lags exposure time windows before blood collection at the women’s residential addresses were estimated using temporally-adjusted land use regression models. Effects of PM2.5 exposures on percentage change in the biomarkers were estimated using multivariable linear regression models adjusted for month, temperature, relative humidity, gestational age and other covariates. Aims: To investigate the therapeutic effects of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) transplantation on intrauterine adhesions (IUA). Methods: BMSCs were isolated and labeled by green fluorescence protein. IUA model was established by mechanical injury. 48 rats were randomly divided into control, IUA model, BMSCs vein injection and BMSCs intrauterine injection groups (n=12 in each group). Recent oncologic treatment has been associated with cardiovascular complications, such as hypertension, metabolic derangements, thrombosis, arrhythmia, and even cardiac death. Careful attention to detailed cardiac evaluation is required to optimize the anticancer treatment and prevent heart failure of patients undergoing chemoradiotherapy. Classical cardiovascular biomarkers like ANP, BNP, ProANP, NT-ProBNP, hsTnI, hsTnT, adropin, copeptin, and ET-1 are indicative of toxic effects in cancer patients with radiation, chemotherapy, and neoadjuvant treatment. Recently, miRNAs (i.e., miR-29, miR-146, miR-208, and miR-216) in the peripheral blood or exosomederived miRNAs are attractive as novel biomarkers for drug-induced cardiotoxicity due to their highly conserved sequence and stability in body fluids. The anticancer treatment could lead to detectable increases of miRNAs in the absence of traditional cardiac biomarkers or cardiac remodeling. Circulating cardiovascular biomarkers provide earlier detection of cardiotoxicity from cancer treatments before irreversible damage occurs. An increased understanding of the potential roles and mechanisms may help to reveal the crosstalk between cancer therapy and cardiac issues.
