Pursuing our recent interest concerning the catalytic activity of half-sandwich RuII complexes containing Schiff base ligands (L1 and L2), in this study new Schiff bases and their half-sandwich RuII complexes were prepared. The structures of these compounds were confirmed by a variety of spectral and physical methods such as microanalysis, FT-IR, electronic spectra, proton and carbon NMR, TGA and mass spectra. The catalytic activities of the RuII complexes toward the transfer hydrogenation of ketones to their corresponding alcohols were investigated using i-PrOH as a hydrogen source and solvent. The complexes showed high catalytic activities at catalyst concentrations of 0.01 mmol and were able to carry out transfer hydrogenation (TH) to a wide range of ketones in the presence of KOH. In general, Schiff bases recognition, the coordination chemistry, and the ketone substrates were found to influence the catalytic performance of these complexes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Phenolic content and antioxidant activity of Anthemis kotschyana Boiss. var. discoidea (A. kotschyana) were reported in this study. The ethanol extract of Anthemis kotschyana (EEA) and the water extract of Anthemis kotschyana (WEA) were prepared and used for biochemical analyses. Radical scavenging antioxidant capacities of EEA and WEA were evaluated by DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) free radical scavenging method. Another goal of the study was to evaluate the phenolic compositions of A. kotschyana by liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Rhamnetin (5.484 ± 0.020 ppm; µg/g extract) and quinic acid (2.251 ± 0.012 ppm; µg/g extract) were identified as major two compounds in the plant sample. The title compound ([CuClL(H2O)]·2H2O) were synthesized. The copper(II) complex in square planar geometry were identified by using elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility, mass spectra, FT-IR, UV-Vis. and ESR techniques. DFT calculations at the UB3LYP/LANL2DZ level of theory were conducted to obtain vibrational and electronic properties of the copper(II) complex. Vibrational assignments of the observed infrared spectra of title compound were carried out based on the calculated potential energy distributions (PEDs). The sensitive measurement results indicated that the observed values were reasonable. The energy values were determined to describe electronic properties of the title molecules. Furthermore, NBO analysis was performed to analyze the hyper-conjugative stability of the molecule, molecular orbital interaction and charge delocalization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
