Life expectancy at birth is the highest of all times and tends to increase. This leads to an older society and brings out various needs that are not taken into consideration before, one of which is the education of older adults. People usually get the idea that older adults cannot learn or do not feel the need to learn. However, learning is an integral part of life and need of learning never ends. Education in older adulthood leads to healthier and more personalized lives, thus, happier individuals in later ages. Older adult learners are not perceived as a burden by the rest of the society, on the contrary, they are considered as individuals who enrich the society with their knowledge and experience. Precautions of the COVID-19 Pandemic and current technological opportunities accelerated the substitution of face-to-face teaching and learning environments with digital ones. Nevertheless, older adults who already experience declines in cognitive, affective and psychomotor abilities, have been subjected to various technological barriers as well. Online education of older adults requires well-designed learning environments to maximize the efficiency of activities performed using computers or mobile devices. Considering that interface are the initiatives of communication between user and digital content, if designed with consideration of changing physical conditions, prior knowledge, habitudes and experiences of older adults, interface might become a mediator to increase the effectiveness of digital content. This study examines design-wise issues in online learning environments within the framework of gerontology and older adult education. Patent ductus arteriosus is the most common cardiovascular condition in preterm infants. There is a significant uncertainty about when and how to close ductus arteriosus in preterm infants due to a high spontaneous closure rate even in very immature preterm infants. Diagnosis and management of patent ductus arteriosus remain a challenge for both neonatologists and pediatric cardiologists. Researchers have tried to define a balance between an expectant approach and active treatment in selected infants. This review aimed to focus on the pathophysiology and management of patent ductus arteriosus and to make suggestions about approaches that might eliminate the association of morbidities with patent ductus arteriosus.

Orthorexia nervosa (ON) is a type of eating disorder marked by an excessive preoccupation with eating healthily to preserve and promote health, which surpasses normal levels of concern. This study aims to investigate the correlation between orthorexic tendencies, anthropometric measurements, and several other characteristics among university students. A cross-sectional study was done with a sample size of 307 university students from various departments, consisting of 228 females and 79 males. The data-gathering process consisted of administering a demographic information form and the ORTO-11 questionnaire. Anthropometric measurements, such as weight, height, waist circumference, hip circumference, and chest circumference, were measured. In addition, Body Mass Index (BMI) was calculated. The TANITA BC-418 equipment was used to measure the weight of the participants, while a flexible tape measure was used to measure their height, waist circumference, hip circumference, and chest circumference. The BMI was calculated by the individual's weight (in kilograms) by the square of their height (in meters). The data analysis encompassed the utilization of descriptive statistics, t-tests, variance analysis, and Pearson correlation analysis. A score of 25 or lower on the ORTO-11 scale was categorized as orthorexic, whereas a score higher than 25 was deemed normal. The average age and orthorexia scores of the subjects were 20.81±1.86 and 27.76±4.42 for females, and 21.38±4.14 and 28.11±4.37 for males, respectively. It was determined that 29.3% of the participants were found to display orthorexic tendencies, while the remaining 70.7% did not. There were no statistically significant variations in age, hip circumference, and orthorexia scores across genders (p>0.05). No statistically significant relationship was found between the total orthorexia scores and BMIs of the individuals (r=-.051, p>0.05). ON is associated with psychological and social complications, which in turn contribute to the development of disordered eating patterns. The results of this study indicate that determining the frequency of orthorexic tendencies among university students may contribute to the development of strategies for its prevention. In this study, a new low-cost, three-degree-of-freedom force sensor is developed to measure Ground Reaction Forces (GRFs) and to be used in the safe control of active transfemoral prosthesis. Initially, the proposed sensor was designed with the Finite Element Method (FEM). Then, the sensor's control board was developed to include an electronic circuit with its microcontroller module, four load cell amplifiers, and an orientation sensor. A test platform was also developed to conduct the sensor tests. To test the accuracy of the results obtained from the developed test platform, the same tests were also carried out with a commercial sensor and similar results were obtained, thus proving that the sensor is suitable for use in prosthetics. Objectives: This study aims to determine the risk factors by examining the sociodemographic characteristics of infants hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) due to lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI), to determine the factors that affect the duration of hospitalization, and to determine the underlying microbial factors and evaluate them in the light of the literature. Methods: This study evaluated the data of newborns hospitalized with LTRI between 01 October 2022 and 31 March 2023. Demographic characteristics of the patients detected viral agents, duration of hospitalization and risk factors were recorded in the study form. Babies divided viral LRTI and non-viral LRTI, and then compared with each other. Additionally, the facts that might affect the duration of hospitalization were investigated. Results: The study included 57 babies. Viral agent was detected in 50.9% of the babies, the most frequently viral agent was respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) (48.2%). Other viral factors, in order of frequency; Adenovirus, SARS-CoV-2, Influenza A and B. There is no demographic difference between the viral agent positive and negative groups. The patients were evaluated according to length of hospitalization, it was seen that the hospital stay was longer in babies who were found to be viral positive and needed oxygen therapy (p=0.02, p=0.03, respectively). The male gender ratio was higher in the group with longer hospital stays, but this difference was not statistically significant. Although the rate of exclusive breastfeeding was higher in the group with a short hospitalization period, this difference was not statistically significant (p>0.05). Conclusion: RSV is currently the most frequently detected viral agent in lower respiratory tract infections in newborns. The hospital stay of babies diagnosed with RSV is longer than those with non-RSV viral agents. So struggling with RSV is important in preventing lower respiratory tract infections in newborns. It is necessary to develop a vaccine or immunoglobulin application against RSV infection not only for preterm babies but also for all newborn babies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: This study was designed to examine the effect of guided imagery applied to geriatric orthopaedic patients on preoperative anxiety and comfort. Methods: This study was conducted as a randomized controlled trial. The population of the study consisted of geriatric patients treated in the orthopaedics and traumatology clinic of a university hospital. The sample consisted of 80 patients, including the experimental group (n = 40) and the control group (n = 40). Personal Descriptive Form, The State–Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and General Comfort Scale were used as data collection tools. Results: After the guided imagery application, it was determined that the anxiety of the experimental group decreased statistically significantly, and their comfort improved (P < 0.05). Conclusion: After the imagery, it was determined that the patients in the experimental group had a decrease in their anxiety level and an improvement in their comfort. Since it is a low‐cost and easily accessible method, applying imagery in the preoperative period is recommended. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ovarian cysts are one of the most common pathologies in the infancy period. Approximately 15% of intraabdominal masses seen in this period are genital origined and one-third of these masses are ovarian cysts. The incidence of ovarian cysts has been reported as 1 in 2500 live births. The most common complications in ovarian cysts are torsion and bleeding. Fetal ovarian cysts usually regress spontaneously in complicated cysts; laparoscopic or open surgery can be applied. A female infant with a diagnosis of intraabdominal cystic mass, suspicion of duodenal atresia, and mesenteric cyst made based on a prenatal ultrasonographic imaging was hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit for examination and treatment. The abdominal ultrasonography revealed a cystic lesion in the lower left quadrant. The patient was evaluated with abdominal CT for detailed evaluation 1 day later and revealed a cystic lesion in the right upper quadrant. The displacement of the cystic mass conducted the differential diagnosis in favor of mesenteric cyst and ovarian torsion. Laparoscopic surgery was performed for examination and treatment. It was observed that the left ovary was torsioned and displaced. Ovarian cysts are the most frequently observed masses among prenatal cystic masses in female fetuses. It should be kept in mind that cystic masses detected in the prenatal period may often be ovarian cysts and that these cysts can be displaced in the abdomen while torsion, and a treatment plan should be determined according to the clinical findings of the patient.
